Cassandra Lassion

"No, no, no. You see, if we do this, then we won't have to deal with them at all!"

Description

Name: Cassandra Lassion
Age: 24 years
Gender: Female
Species: Xylamar
Rank: Intelligence Specialist

All the females in Cassandra's race have very long hair, so long it is always worn up. She decides to wear her own in a rather difficult looking bun. Their hair isn't exactly one color, because it changes with their moods. Their skin is all different colors, usually depending on which family line you belong to. Her own skin is a light shade of purple with golden flecks that go down her arms and legs in swirls, looking quite like specially placed freckles. Their eye color also varies, and Cassandra has exquisite teal eyes that almost glow in the dark. Everybody in the race is very tall and thin, since all of them are very flexible. It helps them, because when attacked by anything they can run very fast and hide in very odd places. Cassandra's lips are a little bit lighter then the rest of her skin, and almost always have a ghost of a smile. Her ears are like those of a human, but a bit more pointed at the top. Because it is tradition on her planet, she only wears shirts that end at the top of her rib cage, and shorts. She just recently started wearing shoes, which are a worn pair of sneakers.

Personality

Cassandra tries to be nice to most people, but she still catches herself being rather sarcastic at times. She get's bored a little too easily, and when this happens she tends to tie knots in a piece of rope she has had for quite some time. She likes to be doing things at all times, and hates when there is some sort of battle and she isn't involved. She is a very smart person, and tends to get annoyed if she has to explain something to somebody 'less intelligent' than herself. She doesn't like to stay in one place for a while, and will be found pacing and mumbling things to herself when she has to plan something. She tends to joke around a lot when she is supposed to be more serious, but she doesn't listen to people long enough sometimes to figure that out. If somebody tells her what to do, but she has a better idea, she'll most likely use her own idea. Cassandra hates having to call Regina something other then her name, it makes herself belittled, so sometimes she simply calls her Regina anyway, no matter how many times she get's corrected.

Equipment

Cassandra isn't one to carry weapons, because it will get in the way of her flexibility, but still has a blade that she keeps strapped to the side of her foot. She keeps it there because it is then hidden by her shoe.

History

The Xylamar are a rather unknown species. This is because they move camp so fast, and can hide so well, that most never stumble upon them. That is also because they prefer not to fight others. But they still can. In the few times they get in wars, they use a simple strategy. Confuse the enemy. They've never lost a fight this way. And it's a good thing they haven't lost many lives during these battles, because they are a rather small species. They have many families, but they are all rather small. There is also the problem that the Xylamar don't live as long as many other races though. The oldest person has been recorded to be 1,000 years before they die.

But Cassandra didn't bother to think about that. She let herself pass through training as a child easily, always being the top of her groups. She even did so well she had time to study English, which only few Xylamar could speak. She also led on to be good at that, speaking it was a slight accent but none the less rather well. It was then she decided it was too boring to stay with the group, the lack of excitement dawning on her. She needed to do something that would leave her memorable for the future generations of her race. So, off she went to join Regina. No, Captain.

So begins...

Waiting. It wasn't something Cassandra was good at. To be honest, she tried to ignore it at all costs. But still, here she was. Drumming her fingers on the table of some bar. A quite empty bar, at that. At least, it had been. A bunch of people, no doubt applying for a position on this ship, had filed in. They all immediately headed towards the girl that looked in charge. Oh, and the guy that seemed rather friendly with her. The Metamorphite. She would make sure she didn't share a handshake with him.

But after the last interview was over, it became quite boring. Actually, Cassandra would have gone over and introduced herself, but that wasn't exactly what she did. People came to her. And then if she felt she needed to, she ran. At least, that was how her race thought of it. Pushing the thought to the back of her mind, she simply sat there, growing more and more bored by the second. Soon, she was sitting on the table, make knots form in the small rope. A sigh found it's way through her lips and she stared down at the rope as she tugged it once and all the intricate knots vanished. Too easy. Her teal eyes found their way over to the Metamorphite and the Captain. She was still thinking about just walking over. Nope. She would stick out at some point. Her purple skin didn't make that too hard.

Reggie was starting to get bored. They had three positions still open and several people still to interview. She was starting to lose her mind. She noticed new faces talking with other hired crew, but yet they wouldn't come over and introduce themselves. She glanced at the bar noticing a purple skinned woman sitting there. She looked tense as she tied knots into a piece of string. When she glanced over, Reggie noticed her bright teal eyes.

Judging by the colors of her skin, hair, and eyes, Reggie assume she was a Xylamar. They were a very colorful people. Visiting them was like visiting a rainbow. If she was right in that she was a Xylamar, then the girl would not come over and say hello. It wasn't what her people did. They waited. Or ran.

She looked over at Colin. "I'm getting us something to eat." She said to him as she stood from her chair. Her boots thumped against the wood floors as she walked. It felt good to move, her knee actually enjoying the small shots of pain.

She leaned on the bar, close to the purple girl. "Hey barkeep. Can we get some food? Me and Colin are dying over there." The barkeep smiled and nodded his head. He pointed to the special. Bacon Cheeseburgers were the special today. And Reggie was completely okay with that.

It was no mystery that Earthlings love cheeseburgers. Something about grilled beef with cheese, and then add fried pig. It was a heart attack on a bun, and it appealed so much to Reggie. She looked over at Colin. She couldn't remember if he liked cheeseburgers. He always said that human food was less then desirable, but he could stomach it. If he wanted something different, she could eat his and he could order something else.

Reggie glanced at the Xylamar, who was making a point not to look at the captain. "You're a Xylamar, correct?" She asked. That got her attention. Reggie was met with bright teal eyes, the color of the ocean. "I'm Captain Regina Oris. Are you here for my crew?"

"You're a Xylamar, correct?" Cassandra looked up, her hair deciding to turn light blue at the recognition of her specie's name. A teasing smile tugged at the corners of her lips, but otherwise she didn't say or do anything. "I'm Captain Regina Oris. Are you here for my crew?" Regina. Pretty name. But she didn't like the idea of having to call her Captain. So instead, she would call her Captain in her own language.

"Yes, I'm here for your ship, Nauar. I'd like to be your Intelligence Specialist. You can call me Cassandra." She answered eventually, standing up and looking her over. Human. She didn't mind. The right kind of humans were quite friendly. Looking over at the small group of the staff that was already accepted, she frowned slightly. They all had some kind of proof, papers of sorts. She didn't have any. Well, besides her books she brought along sometimes. But she hadn't brought any.

"I'm sorry to inform I don't have any proof on me. But I can prove myself, if you'd like." Cassandra looked the girl in the eye, erasing the frown and smiling slightly once again.

Nauar? She believed that was Captain in the Xylamar language. Either that, or it was idiot. She couldn't remember. It had been so long since she studied the different languages of the alien races.

Most of them had adapted and learned English. Why English, Reggie didn't know. But even so, the IDA required all cadets to take alien classes. Hence why Reggie knew most races and how to speak the basics of their languages. If Nauar was Captain, like Reggie believed it was, she liked it. Although everyone on the ship should call her Captain or ma'am, the only one allowed to call her by her name was Colin, she liked the different variations.

Although she disliked being referred to as either Captain or ma'am, she knew she had to set up restrictions. If they referred to her by her first name it would be hard to retain a leader position. There was too much familiarity in a first name.

"I'm sorry to inform I don't have any proof on me. But I can prove myself, if you'd like." Cassandra said cutting off Reggie's thoughts.

"Please."

Reggie eyed the Xylamar with an expectant gaze. 'Don't disappoint me, Cassandra.' She couldn't help but think.

"Please."

Cassandra racked her brain for something to say, and then eventually thought of one of the simpler plans she had come up with, quite some time ago when she had first learned about hyper sleep. That would work, she supposed. Even though she knew the job was about alien species and such. Oh well. She could involve both.

"Well, I know an antidote of a sort for hyper sleep, Nauar. You'll be able to move merrily along within 30 minutes. No puking, for the most part. The only problem is the taste. It lasts quite a while, and isn't all that great." She said, tilting her head to one side. "Oh, and I can also say I know the species, culture, and language of everybody in this room. But I won't be shaking hands with your little boyfriend. I'm not fond of being copied." She was opening up for sure. Sounding more like she did when she talked to close friends.

"Did I pass your little test? I have better ideas, I just didn't want to overwhelm you, Nauar." A bigger smile crossed Cassandra's lips before she went back to her normal teasing hint of a grin.

An antidote for hyper sleep? Reggie almost passed out in excitement. She would hire her just for the chance to try that antidote.

"Did I pass your little test? I have better ideas, I just didn't want to overwhelm you, Nauar."

"Don't worry Cassandra, overwhelming me is the least of your worries." Reggie said with a smile. "Honestly, your sharp tongue is reason enough for me to hire you." She laughed. "But I would definitely like to see what else you have in story. If an antidote for hyper sleep sickness is nothing."

She held out her hand. "Welcome to the Nightwing. There are rooms available upstairs for all hired crew. Food and drinks are on the house. Do whatever you please tonight, just be back here tomorrow morning."

With that, Reggie walked back to her table with two plates of bacon cheeseburgers in hand. She looked at Colin, eyeing him suspiciously. "You still like bacon cheeseburgers right? I never know what your tastebuds like anymore."

Cassandra looked down at the hand wearily, but sighed and shook it anyway. There was nothing to fear over a simple handshake. That is, if you shared it with the right person. After Regina retreated back to her Metamorphite boyfriend, she sat on the table once again and tied knots, faster then before. So, she was in this little group. Which meant two things. She would eventually have a place to rest for a bit, and the fact that she would have to stay in the same spot, with absolutely no area to retreat to. Well, she would. But that all depended if they gave her a little area to work on plans in peace. Which the better have, if they didn't want to die on those missions.

Note, ask for own area.

"...Eddie; try not to throw us around to much and please do your best to keep my roof firmly attached to the rest of the ship.”

"I can't guaruntee anything if you guys put me in a bad mood," the new pilot teased with a laugh. It's not like he'd actually do something like that, but hey, they didn't know him yet. With another glance around the people at the table, he was definetly reminded that humans were not going to be the only thing on this trip. What with the squid eyes, the random slits on the girl's head and just about everything else there to prove it, human's were to be the minority on this trip comparing them to aliens.

However, this only slightly bugged Eddie. It wasn't that he was racist, but he just felt better if he was with more humans. So far, there were two besides him, both female. While he had no problem with this, he did long for a guy to hang out with. Odds are, none of the male members of the ship met the personality requirement that Eddie had for a fun person to talk to. Well, it couldn't be helped.

"...And don't doubt Minn." he added for no reason in general. "All I had to do was smell what she was cooking and I could tell it was delicious. On that note, let me remind you guys I called dibs on the first things she makes,"

Cassandra, trying to focus on her knot trying, honestly couldn't She tucked the rope away and looked around. She didn't feel like joining the group of other people that had been hired. They were too far into their conversation. She considered going to visit Regina, but she as joined quickly by a new person, looking to join the ship. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, which was turning orange from irritation. The only person who was left was that Metamorphite, who she was quite scared would ask for a handshake. Oh well. She could simply decline it and tell the truth. She stood, deciding to be brave and walk on over. She would have to be friends of sorts with these people...

"... in love," She heard only the end of what she was saying as she sat down next to him. "Hello. I take it you've been friends with Regina, er, Captain, a bit longer then the rest of us. What are you, Sied? Second in command?" She called him by 'sir' in her own language, saying she wasn't sure of his name. She arched an eyebrow, waiting for him to answer. "You can call me Cassandra." She added, hopefully he would catch on she wanted a name. A small smile played across her lips, and she stared at him. Her hair was turning a light green now. Calm.

I'm like one of those... What did humans call it? Mood rings.

He wasnt sure if he had imagined her or not. he certainly hadnt imagined the shots. They left him buzzing, not drunk, but not exactly 100% either. He smiled at the memory. She was probably married and just looking to screw around with some bar guy. Colin chuckled at himself quietly without lifting his head. An then the thunder came down.

Reg slammed her hand on the table. "Dammit Reg" he groaned. She announced to him that they were done. "Thank god" he smiled and sat up. She took her leave shortly after, followed by their new pilot. Colin was going to leave but was interrupted by one of the crew members he had yet to meet. She was very colorful. He racked his brain. He had een this species before but couldnt remember why he had flagged it.

OH YEAH! He visibly reacted to his memory. He hadmet a xylamar once before on a different ship. This Xylamar wouldnt let Colin absorb him, but had never explained why. Colin let it go after that. He decided not to push the thought on this one either. It may come off as insulting.

He smiled as she asked her questions. "Yes," he stood, a bit lazily. "My name is Colin Seartjik. And I'll be the second for this voyage and any others captain has in store." he raised an eyebrow. "That alright with you Cassandra?"

Reggie was busy shoving a forkful of hash browns, smothered in ketchup, to notice Cassandra sit down next to her. "Good morning, Nauar. Sleep well?"

The captain glanced over the alien life form and smiled before finally swallowing down the fried food. "Could have been better, but I can't argue with sleeping in a nice bed." She laughed. "How about yourself Cassandra?"

Reggie grabbed the ketchup bottle once more, squeezing out the red substance over her hash browns. They were absolutely bloody with the condiment, but Reggie found that she liked it better that way. She mixed the hash browns with her over easy eggs, letting the yolk stick everything together. By the look on Cassandra's face, she determined that her eating habits were less than par for the Xylamar.

Reggie didn't care. She got strange looks, even from her own race, when she was eating. She was born and raised on a space station, she hardly ever to got to eat food that wasn't synthetically grown on the station. Which was why she was so stubborn about having a good chef on the ship. None of that crappy synthetic, jelly type substance on her ship.

Not when real food was too damn good.

Arc awoke lazily watching her ceiling her a few moments, she moved her hand up into the light that was beaming through her window watching in move in sunlight. She heard the early wakers start moving around outside her window she hadn’t closed last night. She knew it was early and it would be a little while before any of her other crew mates awoke. She rolled out of bed and pulled on her clothes looking out the window at all the early morning movement. She loved waking up to bright sunshine and movement, it was the one thing she hated disliked about living on a spaceship or space station. She had walked to the stairs to find the inn devoid of all lifeforms-okay, maybe there was a pot plant somewhere, but other than that,-as she had expected, she was an early riser, enjoying the feeling of having the world all to herself. She wandered outside taking a moment to stretch out the sleepiness her body still held before taking off at a medium paced run. She reveled in the way the wind swept her hair in all different directions and how it pulled her clothes in all different directions.

Arc arrived back at the inn some time later in the morning, she honestly had no concept of time, ever, she did what she wanted when she felt like doing it. She opened up the door to the Inn and took in the aroma of warm food the overwhelmed her. She took a first steps inside and noticed the Captain and Cassandra engaged in conversation. Arc made her way up to two and gave them a carefree smile. She looked down at the meal the Captain had ordered for herself, Arc suddenly felt her stomach growl hungrily but she ignored knowing she had no money in her pocket and soon she would be on a ship with a cook cooking for them. Not eating a few meals was no biggie. She scrutinized the Captains food choice, admittedly despite being human Arc didn’t have much experience with human food, so she wasn't too sure if that was actually a legitimate meal pairing. Her first human meals she had tried was when she was seven and the whole experience had endeared to the food.

Arc stopped her thoughts and looked back up at the two girls with a small smile. “I’m excited to this ship of your’s Captain.”

"I'm excited to this ship of yours Captain."

Reggie smiled and said hello to Arc as she sat down next to her. She stared at her food with an intrigued look, but didn't seem to keen on her food choices. "All in due time Arc. All in due time."

She shoved another forkful of food into her mouth, washing it down with her drink. She jumped at the sound of another person joining them. She looked over at Cassiopeia who had voiced her own excitement about being on the ship, and then made a remark about her parents.

Reggie smiled, but couldn't help but feel a spark of jealousy towards the young girl. "You say that now," She said. "But you'll realize how much you enjoyed those calls. Especially once they're gone."

Her parents were the same. Always calling her, making sure she was okay, especially when she was in the Academy. Her mom always sent her a care package during her time in the Defense. They were very caring parents, and Reggie was always annoyed when she got the long phone calls that always seemed to be her answering their questions.

But, now they were gone. And she never got those calls anymore. She never got those care packages anymore. And she missed them terribly.

Realized she had brought the mood down, Reggie cracked a joke to lighten the mood back up.

Colin smiled while the woman left. he answered her qustion. "No, you dont have to call me captain." He gigged a bit. He might be drunker than he thought he was. He shrugged and tapped the bar. "Have a good night barkeep." He sloppily turned around and made his way to the rooms they had rented out.

-------

His eyes opened slowly. "Ugh"

He was hung over. Dammit. He threw the lumpy inn blanket off of him with a growl. Time to get up. He slid off the bed and nearly rolled across the floor to where he'd hung his Morphsuit. He slipped it on. Th spandex-like material hugged his skin tightly. He was still in his human form, but his hair was unruly and he had a bit of body odor. He changed into his true form, and then quickly changed back. Reseting the human to his clean, combed state. He smiled and left the room.

-------

He arrived back in the bar. the crew was already seated at the bar. Reg, Cassandra, Casseopiea, and Arc. He took a seat next to Reg. The amount of ketchup the woman used was unholy, but he was starving. He snatchd a bite of her hashbrowns before she was able to finish them. "Ready to set sail cap?"

"Could have been better, but I can't argue with sleeping in a nice bed." A quick laugh escaped Regina's lips, but then she continued on to ask the Xylamar a question. "How about yourself, Cassandra?"

"It was alright, I suppose. I haven't slept in a while, so it was nice, Nauar." Cassandra answered, before they were soon joined by a group of the other staff members. She drifted out of the conversation, looking at all of them as they continued to talk. And talk.

"Ready to set sail cap?" She looked back at Colin as he approached them and couldn't help but smile. She recalled the night before, and how drunk the Second in Command had been, and shook her head. But then again, she also was a bit excited for setting sail.

"Yes, are we?"

"Ready to set sail cap?"

Colin tried to hide, but Reggie had seen it. He had totally just taken the last of her hashbrowns! She glared at him, about ready to kill him. He smiled at her, but she saw past the human disguise. She knew what his real form was. She had seen it a while back, when they both had gotten drunk off their asses. She pictured that form as she glared daggers into him.

"Yes, are we?"

Breathing out, Reggie turned to Cassandra, trying to mask her hatred for her second in command. "All in due time," She repeated. "We have to wait for the rest of the crew. They all should be getting wake up calls in about 10 minutes." She explained.

"Barkeep," She said holding her empty plate up. "Can I please get another order of hashbrowns." She said the last word through gritted teeth as she glared at Colin. The barkeep gladly took her plate and walked through a doorway towards the kitchen.

"Everyone eat. I suggest getting a good breakfast before setting sail. I want us to have full bellies before reaching my ship."

Narration

After a long and tiring morning, Reggie finally had all her crew members. She officially welcomed Dr. Alexander Greenhaven to the crew, who happily accepted.

With the final pieces in place, Captain Oris gladly led everyone outside to the land cruiser.

Reggie

Finally, they finally had everyone. Reggie could feel her adrenaline kicking in. Her mind so focused on getting everyone up to the ship. She wanted to begin this journey. The thought of discovering Earth, after so many years! No words could describe her excitement.

"Alright, everyone!" She called as they neared the cruiser. "It's going to be a tight fit, but I promise the Nightwing is a lot larger." She popped open the door of the cruiser and climbed in, immediately taking the pilot's position.

"Make sure you're strapped in." She called behind her as everyone else piled in. She was so excited to see her ship again, to sleep in the bed she had grown accustomed to, she was half tempted to start flying while everyone was still trying to strap in.

Colin took his place in the seat next to her, strapping himself in. She beamed at him. He knew how excited for this she was. She had been trying to get funding for this expedition for years after discovering the possibilities. It was finally happening.

"Everybody ready?" She called back, it was hard to turn and see everyone while being strapped in. She got a resounding "yes" or "all good" from her newly hired crew. Not wanting to waste anymore time, she turned on the cruiser and slammed it into full throttle.

Just like last night, when she had shown Eddie the Nightwing for the first time, she gave out a hoot of excitement. She loved flying. The land cruiser was a bit more exciting because you could physically feel the small ship gain the speed. A large ship like the Nightwing was built to handle the high speeds. It was meant to move smoothly even at drastic speeds.

Blasting out of the atmosphere and into the vastness of space, Reggie instantly spot her ship sitting at the docks. "MAK, open the hanger," She spoke pressing a button to communicate with the on board AI.

"Welcome home, Captain Oris." Was the AI's reply as it lowered the hanger door.

"Welcome to the Nightwing, everyone."

Cassandra looked up from the table she was digging a knife into to see Regina. She smiled slightly, before putting the knife down flat. The barkeeper was going to hate her, saying she had carved many symbols and such into the table. Still, she stood and crossed the room to go follow the captain, like many. She heard Regina shout something about how it was going to be a tight fit, but she simply shrugged. She didn't mind, if it was for a short period of time. Which, it supposedly would be. She climbed in and took a seat right behind the pilot's, and strapped herself in.

"All good, Nauar." She announced, along with all the others saying similar things to announce they were ready. However, the Xylamar's voice was drowned out by the engine of the engine starting to life. She sighed and leaned back in the chair, ignoring all signs of somebody trying to start the conversation with her. Soon enough, the cruiser stopped, and the engine was cut off. She undid the buckle that held her in and stood. Even though the cruiser was too small for her to stand fully, she craned her neck a bit and stretched her limbs before heading off and into the hangar. She was the first one off, so she simply stood there and stared at the Nightwing. Soon somebody approached behind her, but she wasn't sure who. But she had to say something to them. So she did.

"It's beautiful, The Nightwing. I can't wait..."

Climbing off the land cruiser, long after the rest of her crew had, Reggie finally felt like she was at home. She was more than excited to see her ship, to be back in it's familiar walls. She took in a deep breath, sighing happily.

Home sweet home.

"It's beautiful, The Nightwing. I can't wait..."

Reggie hadn't realized that she had stepped up next to Cassandra, but the young Xylamar had started speaking. Glancing at her, Reggie smiled. She was looking at her ship with such wonder, it made the Reggie proud.

The captain nodded, making a sound of agreement. "She wasn't always this beautiful. Took many years of work to get her this pretty." Reggie laughed. "C'mon, there's still a lot more to see."

Moving forward, watching her crew spazz over the little things, she couldn't help but feel giddy herself. "MAK, make sure everyone knows where their stations will be. As well as where they will sleep." Reggie called as she moved towards the elevator. They were currently on the bottom floor of the ship. There was so much else to see.

The Nightwing was huge, bigger than most ships that went on these crazy adventures. She was once a passenger ship, meant for quiet voyages through space. For people on vacation. When her family had obtained it, they got to work, quick, on remodeling it.

"If anyone needs me, I'll be up on the bridge." She called out to her crew. "If you have any questions, MAK should be able to answer them for you. He knows everything."

Before Arc even got the chance to respond, they were called to the ship. Finally! His excitement was uncontained! It was leaking out of him! It was... well, he wasn't anymore 'visibly' excited then the rest. However, inside, he was cheering. They were finally getting ready to go! He followed Regina as they were led to the shuttle and then flown to the actual ship.

After the cramped shuttle ride up to the Nightwing, Eddie found himself giving second-glances to all the features of the ship he had already seen before. He wasn't as curious as the others, given the fact he knew what all this was and had seen the ship the day before, but he did admire the actual beauty of the ship as he walked.

As Reggie informed them of the AI, Eddie found himself not taking advantage of the thing, obviously because he wasn't completely comfortable with it. Then again, he didn't really need it, he did actually pay attention during the tour. Eddie caught himself before he got too far away from the others and smiled. "I would suggest nobody leaves without knowing where they are going, unless you want to wander around for a while," he warned jokingly.
