Introduction

Image

In Alaska, there is a fair share of supernatural beings. In Blackwood forest, their is a pack of lycans. Were-people. The pack has yet to find it's Alpha, but as for now, their alpha female, Selene, leads. Once she finds her mate, he will take his place as Alpha Male.

Many of the were-people have come, seeking home and acceptance in their brothers and sisters, and easily finding it. The pack runs as a family, nothing more, nothing less. They protect, defend, and accept the challenges faced. But, this pack contains the elite, and seek the elite.

There's only one thing we lycan must worry about. And that worry is Vampires. Vampires have been our enemy since the earliest times of our creation. Since we tend to find many...creatures lurking about our forest, we must take absolute precautions.

So, what do you have to offer?

Selene surveyed the area cautiously. She could smell something not too far off in the distance. She crouched behind a tall pine tree, looking into the clearing. The fur that was on her back stood up, scents of different small prey filling her nostrils. Her white fur stood out to any who came across her, but she learned how to camouflage well. She peered up at the sky. Rain would be coming soon, probably a thunderstorm. She loved those. She ruffled her fur, and walked along the tree line, watching her territory.

Paul was running again, and it would appear his scent has drawn the attention of a fourth vampire. 'How will I get rid off all four?' He thought as he tried to escape the town. "Ever been to Blackwood Forest?" He was asked when he first entered town. He had replied no as he had recently moved to Alaska. "There are all kinds of places there you should visit, just be careful of the wolves." He was warned. He sprinted past a group of people who he recognized from earlier, some new friends, already. "Paul, Where are you going?" one of them called as he sprinted past. He saw the four men following Paul and stood in front of them, he was trying to distract them to help him. 'Just get to Blackwood, you can transform there and fight if you have to.' Paul said in his head. In a matter of minutes he hit the edge of town, and was heading towards Blackwood. He could still smell the vampires, they were still after him, still following him. He looked toward the sky as he ran toward Blackwood, and about halfway to Blackwood, a raindrop hit his head.

Selene snarled as she smelt someone stepping onto her territory. She sprinted immediately towards the lingering scent of a large animal. "Probably another moose..", she thought to herself. The hair on her neck and back were standing at full intention, and her instincts screamed intruder. She growled lowly, loping down the tree line until she found tall grass to sneak through. She panted as she ran, determined to find the source of the scent. As she stepped into the clearing, she felt drizzle coming down on her fur. She was right. The sound of thunder could be heard a few miles away, and the wind picked up even stronger. As she grew closer to the scent, she recognized the scent of a male, another wolf. She grew cautious, and slowed her running, scanning the area silently.

Paul groaned as he noticed the scent of another wolf, a werewolf like him. It was a female scent, but this was probably her territory and he had not on, but two problems to deal with. He remembered that he had his backpack with him with spare clothes, it didn't matter if he lost this pair, not too much. He kept running as the town eventually passed from view. Mid-stride, Paul slid the backpack off his shoulders letting it slide along the ground some distance as he swung around the trunk of a narrow tree to face the vampires chasing him. Instead of running away from, he started back toward them. In one moment Paul was human, in the next, an explosive transformation left a wolf in his place. He Growled low and long as he sprinted toward the vampires that were about to enter Blackwood. He was thoroughly soaked already, but it mattered so little to him right now. The only spot that bothered him right now was a patch of fur that was less dense than the rest of his body, where his scars were, but he knew that unless he lived he would not have to worry about that. And he was determined to live.

Selene howled as she smelt the scent grow closer, then growled as she picked up the twinge of vampire. She ran full speed, coming up behind the werewolf. Her original intentions were to defend her territory, but now, she had to worry about the vampires. She walked up beside the other wolf, snarling at the vampires. She was ready to fight. She didn't know the male, but he was one of her kind, so she was bound to help him. She growled loudly now, standing her ground and walking towards the four vampires.

Paul was slightly startled when the other werewolf came up alongside him, but she was likely standing with him against the vampires. He lunges at two of the vampires, combining elements from what little martial arts training he actually received with the pure instinct that flowed through the wolf. Rising onto his back two legs slightly as he had tried in previous attempts of the same stunt, he swung his heavy paw at the nearest vampire, shoving it into a tree. Paul was about to finish the thing off when he saw a vampire lunge at him. Paul twisted and used the monster's strength against it as he latched onto it's neck and whipped it into the same tree as the other. A sickening crack gives evidence to the vampire's death.

Selene lunged at one of the two still standing vampires. She went for the throat, tearing and biting at its jugular until blood spurted onto her muzzle and some of her fur. She bit hard enough to crack the neck, a kill without decapitation. Satisfied, she leapt off of her kill, turning to the opposite vampire that was just a second ago at her flank. She growled, the blood on her muzzle making her look even more intimidating. She went for the vampire's leg, dropping him to his knees. She growled and bit at his hands, taking a few fingers off in the process. Blood stained her white coat as she went for the throat again, tearing the vampire apart. Once she was satisfied with the loss of blood, she bit hard and snapped the neck of her victim. She picked up her head and looked over to see how the other werewolf was doing. She quietly walked over, looking over the dead bodies. The rain had started to pick up, the blood beginning to wash from her coat. She stood a few feet away from the male wolf, examining him.

Paul watched as the blood seeped into the ground, and then his fur stood up on end as he remembered the female wolf that was now standing behind him. He turned to face her and watched as the blood was rinsed from her fur by the rain. As he watched her, he took note of his surroundings and planned his escape if needed. She watched him, examining him and likely assessing whether or not he was a threat. He took a deep breath, caling down as she watched him. He slowly walked toward the backpack he had thrown was resting in the mud and slowly lifted it out of the mud. Who was she? Why did she help him?

Selene walked away from the bodies, turning and watching where the male was going. She shook out her fur again, then barked at him, wondering why else he was in the forest. The forest had been a place for supernaturals, mostly werewolves. But as of right now, she was the only one. She sniffed the air, but kept her eyes on him. Selene hadn't return to her human form in over a week. She had found more comfort in this form, but when she ran out of supplies deeper in the forest, she knew she would have to shift back. She decided that he might follow her if she left, so she barked at him again, and turned towards the tree line, loping off.

Paul heard her bark at him as he walked away to grab his back pack. After having the strap in his mouth, he turned back towards where she had been. He followed her scent as he had lost visual sight of her, hoping he could find her before the scent disappeared. Paul caught up to the unknown female werewolf quickly, what was this place, what was it about Blackwood that made it draw the supernatural there. He was curious and he hoped that she could and swear some questions he had. He felt his stomach growling at him in hunger. If worse came to worse Paul knew how to hunt in his wolf form, though he enjoyed the taste less in his wolf form. Who was she? He carried his bag behind a tree, and against his better judgement, shifted back to his human form. He checked his mud soaked bag and to his own pleasure only the outside of the bag was muddy, everything else was simply wet. Two intact shirts, shorts and one pair of sandals and one sweatshirt. Everything else was granola bars and bottled water. To a passerby he'd look like a hiker. Throwing on a pair of shorts and a shirt, he called from behind the tree, "I didn't know anyone was here. I had to run and this place gave me a better chance to survive than exposing my secret in the town. I'm Paul, Paul Marras."

Selene pushed open the door to a small cabin a few feet ahead, walking in and shifting immediately. She grabbed a long robe off of her couch and pulled it on. She didn't look horrible, but she could use a shower. She finger-combed her waist length white blonde hair, and rubbed her eyes. She walked down the steps of the cabin, listening to him. When she spoke, she surprisingly didn't have an Alaskan accent, it was slightly Russian. "I understand. Many of our kind come through here, but usually not with vampires. My name is Selene. Selene Von Drakken." She sniffed the air slightly and looked towards the tree he was standing behind. "Aren't you going to come out?", she chuckled.

"I didn't realize you had shifted back." Paul replied. He walked out from behind the tree and toward the house. She was standing there with her waist length blonde hair. Knowing that he was safe for now, he began walking toward the house cautiously. His wiped the hair from in front of his eyes and was looking at Selene. "Sure is raining," Paul said, shaking lightly. He noted the slight Russian accent the woman had,and was somewhat surprised. "How long have you lived in Alaska?" Paul asked as he walked toward the house, his hands at his sides and in view.

Selene smiled warmly at him, trying to reassure him. She looked at him standing there in the rain, and turned towards the door. "Come in, it's warmer than out here, and a lot drier too." She walked into her home, which was furnished nicely, and very warm in looks and feel. "I've lived in Alaska all my life. But, I never really am around people long enough to get to know them. Well, humans that is. I've been shifting for as long as I can remember. Only every so often to I go into town." She walked towards her refrigerator, opened the door, and grabbed sandwich meat, some roast beef, american cheese, and mayonnaise. "Want a sandwich?" She walked to the cupboard and grabbed a loaf of bread, taking out two pieces and fixing herself a sandwich.

Paul was surprised, he had dropped in on her territory, and with four vampires in tow, and she was inviting him into her house. "Thanks, Ms. Von Drakken." Paul said, walking inside. He sniffed around and realized he was soaking wet still. "Uh, do you have a towel? Don't want to drip all over the floor." Paul responded, as he closed the door. He resisted every urge to simply shake off all of the moisture. When she asked if he would like a sandwich, he nodded, "Yes, please. I would rather dry off first so I'm not getting everything wet." He sniffed and could feel his mouth watering. "Is that roast beef? I haven't had roast beef in a while, almost a year now." He was resisting the urge to drip the water everywhere despite there being some water already being inside from Selene shifting and water dripping from her fur.

"Sheesh, a year without roast beef?" Selene handed him the sandwich she made as she walked by him. She walked into the bathroom, grabbed a towel, and handed it to him. "Here. And please, call me Selene. You make it seem like i'm an old lady." She laughed. She looked at him, her green eyes bright. "So, Paul, what brings you to Alaska?" She stood still for a moment, leaning against the counter-tops. "You can sit down if you'd like." She was a bit nervous. Paul was attractive, and intimidated her a bit. But she would try not to let it show. She pushed her damp hair to the side, and bit the inside of her lip.

Paul accepted the towel and the sandwich graciously, and wrapped himself around the waist with the towel after drying his legs and arms as much as possible. "Thank you, Ms... er, Selene. What brings me to Alaska? I don't know really. I kind of followed the instincts of the wolf. I had already graduated, and I had nothing really keeping me tied to my home." Paul said, walking toward a wooden chair, and sitting down. He takes a bite out of the sandwich. He actually liked this place, the wolf felt comfortable here, which helped Paul feel comfortable. "So, do you live out here alone? How many werewolves have passed through this area? You are actually the only other werewolf I have met, so I have many questions." Paul said, shivering slightly as the cold of the rain began penetrating his skin.

"Alaska's nice. I hope you're enjoying it. I find it close to perfect, being a were and all. And yes,I live alone. And as for werewolves, only a few. Maybe four in total. They usually are heading towards Canada..more freedom I suppose." She pushed a stray hair out of her eyes and smiled. "Ask away." She kept her eyes on him, and noticing his shiver, she pointed to the fireplace. "Just throw a log in and light it. You'll be warm soon. If you have other clothes I'll throw them in the dryer for you." She jumped up slightly, getting up onto the counter to sit, she looked out the window by her sink, watching the rain fall and the darkening of outside. Night was nearing sooner than she expected. She assumed it was because the change of season was coming, but it wasn't quite that warm yet. "It get's pretty lonely out here. I usually never have visitors."

"I think that this is nice, the forest. I would assume relatively few police are seen in forest. They probably head back to town as fast as possible if they see you as a wolf." Paul responded. Selene pointed at the fire place, and told him to throw a log in, and offered to put his clothes in the dryer. Paul got up and opened his backpack and pulled out his wet clothes, what few were left. "Just point me toward the dryer, I can put them in and start it. Would you mind putting the log in?" He asked. "None of your family comes to visit? No friends in the area?" He asked when she said that she rarely has visitors. So few werewolves passed through the area since she could remember, and for all he knew he could be the first in a while.

"Usually only hikers come through, but even then that isn't very often. And yes, when people see me they usually run. It's expected." She walked over to the fireplace and kneeled in front of it, and put a log in, took a match, and lit underneath it. As small flames began to grow she smiled to herself. "The dryers past the kitchen, on your left. And no, I have no family nor friends. My family was killed by vampires when I was sixteen. I never really made friend's because I lived so far from town." She pushed her slowly-drying hair to the side, standing up in front of the fireplace. "Do you have any family?"

Paul stood there, surprised at the hard ships she had. She lost her family, he left his behind. He walks down past the kitchen and puts his clothes in the dryer, and turning it on. Paul walks back toward Selene and hugs her. "I'm so sorry to hear that. That you lost your family." Releasing her, he sits by the fire and closes his eyes. "I still have family, but we aren't in contact often, once or twice a month. They kinda let me leave easily when they found out why I was disappearing late at night every third or fourth day for five years. They were sad that I was leaving, I remember, but they also seemed relieved." Paul answered. "My younger brother seemed especially tense around me. As if I were an omen, a warning as to what his future might hold. I wonder if he is a wolf too, I couldn't sense it when I left if he was. My friends abandoned me when they found out and I was just tired of it. They are still alive, but things are tense."

Selene blushed slightly as Paul hugged her, blushing softly as she felt his damp warmth. "Thank you..I needed that." She kneeled down in front of the warm fireplace, leaning slightly against your feet. "Oh. They didn't accept you being like us? I'm so sorry. But hey, at least you still have someone. And that someone is me." She looked up at him sitting there behind her, and smiled. She looked at the flames, growing and eating away at the wood, and shivered as the warmth really began to hit her skin. She could hear the rain hitting the windows, and the roof, coming down hard. She exhaled softly, and kept looking at the dancing flames.

Paul was surprised, "My parents accepted me well enough, but my brother was scared, and my parents were tense. But one of the last things they said to me before I left was that I don't have to leave. I told them that I wanted to leave, that I was leaving because I wanted to. Truth be told, I wanted to ease my brother's pain and let my parents calm him down. That wasn't going to happen so long as I was there." Paul sighed. He saw that Selene was smiling at him and saw her seem almost happy. "I have been on my own for the most part until I came across you. Sure I was in contact and saw people, but I never felt anything for them, nothing to keep me there. I kept moving because I found no one that I liked since my ex. She flipped when she found out what I was. She couldn't accept it. I hadn't found anyone that I liked since her, at least not until now." Paul laid next to her and soaked in the warmth. "This place, I feel very much at home here." Paul said, smiling.

Teddy crouched in a tree near a waterfall, noting the camp the vampires had set up at the base of the falls. 'There are so many...' he thought, grimacing when they brought out humans, dreary from the appeal all vampiers had He took a breath, letting his wolf slip forward enough to enhance his senses. He took the bow from his shoulder and slid an arrow from the quiver resting against his back. He drew the arrow and took aim. The arrow flew.

Paul was growing tired from the events of the day, however the quiet hissing of an arrow in flight draws his attention. What was that? "Selene. Did you hear that? It sounded like an arrow in flight." 'Or was I just imagining things? Oh, please don't be imagining things, not now.' Paul asks in his head. He staggers to his feet and walks toward a window. He could smell nothing, however the rain would be weighing down any scent there would be to detect. "I thought I heard something, but I may just be tired."

Selene was smiling. She had never felt so close to someone so quickly. When Paul got up, she stood up slowly, following behind him. "What?" She stood behind him, his height towering over her small frame. Her green eyes widened as they turned into a wolf form, her body still human, and she looked out the window, trying to see through the pouring rain and the darkness outside. "I can't smell anything, but I heard something faint." She kept looking into the forest, holding onto his shirt as he stood in front of her, and she stayed close, feeling his warmth radiate.
