Wait...what happens when we remember everything?

0 · 324 views · located in The Starting Room

a character in “What We Weren't”, as played by seekanddestroy

Description

Name: Ian Karameros

Age: Early to mid 20s, it's kind of difficult to tell

Physical Description: Ian stands a hair over six feet tall, with an athletic "swimmer's build" to his frame. He has short blonde hair, slightly spiked, and sky-blue eyes. When he wakes up, he's wearing a light blue collared shirt, khakis, and a pair of dress shoes, with a pair of glasses resting on his face.

Demeanor: Ian seems intelligent, but very startled and knocked out of his comfort zone. He speaks with a light Midwestern accent, and measures his words before speaking.

Awakening Quote: "Ugh...oh jeez, my head...wait...where the heck are we?"

So begins...

Ian drags himself to his feet, holding his temples and trying to retain what little balance he can. He looked around at the other three who found themselves conscious, blinking the spots from his eyes as he hesitantly breathed in.

"Ngh...what did I miss? Where are...we?"

His voice goes up on the last word as he finally manages to get a good look at the trio that are standing, clearly not expecting to be anything but alone.

Devren scratched the back of his head, looking a little fidgety as a new player joins into the "fun" of the waiting game. He looks up to him nods his head, stating, "None of us know where we are. None of us know who we are, besides our names. I'm pretty sure you don't too." Devren looked at his watched, which calmed him down a bit. Seeing a new face gave him less of an edge knowing that more people are starting to wake up. He looked around at all the other unconscious people and is tempted to wake them up. But, the urge wasn't necessary. They wouldn't be going anywhere.

He looked back to the walls and searched them like clockwork, spying for any impurity in them besides the paint stained to the floor. Not ignoring the new candidate for his life, Devren continued, "You got a name? Or do you think you do." Devren continued to read the walls as he slowly paced, reaching the corner before looking back at the man.

He pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, nodding at Devren cautiously. He looked down at his clothing, suddenly feeling uncomfortable as he adjusted the cuffs of his shirt and exhaled slowly.

"Ian. My name's Ian. What's yours?"

Beau blinked at the newcomer, cocking her head to the side. This boy with the Midwestern accent seemed different from the three of them. He was dressed...classier. With the glasses making him look like he had a hint of intelligence. "My name is Beau, this is Devren, and we're still in the process of figuring out her name," Beau said, pointing to the mysterious girl, "she's mute."

Beau noticed Devren, again, looking intently at the walls. She knew he was just trying to discern where they were, and she gave him credit for having the patience to do that. Generally, she preferred to just hash it out through trial and error, cause and effect. She looked around at the group and blew out a breath. "I think the first step is to figure out why we're here. Is it something we all have in common? Not that we would know anything common from our pasts since we can't remember anything..." She grumbled.

Devren stopped with the searching on the walls and decided to try and relate himself to Beau. "We do have some flashes of our memory I believe. I have something about the scent of aerosol and color often calms me down. Maybe I used spray paint? Maybe I'm a graffiti artist?", He explained looking at the three people. He scratched his head and his nose crinkled. Then, his face relaxed as his thinking was a success. He pointed to the ground at the small pond of paint. "And, that paint right there, came from Beau's pants.", He resolved, searching through his mind, "So, if we both paint, are we in the same business with each other? Do we paint different art styles? There's just too many options there."

Devren held his chin with his thumb and index finger, starting to pace around the room, thinking about these variables to their history. It felt like they were getting closer to the start of their lives. Well, at least their occupations at least. Devren stopped thinking and asked Ian, "Ian, if you have any thoughts, any thoughts at all, trust them. If you automatically assume that your attire relates to your line of work, go with that. It's all we have."

Abbie sat in her corner, watching the two people converse for a while before even more people woke up and joined the fray. She stayed still, focusing her mind on remembering anything she could. Suddenly a stray thought crossed her mind for just a second, she felt distant from the others, like she never liked people. Perhaps she was bullied? She thought about the fact she couldn't speak and realised that whoever she was she didn't like people. But these people seemed alright, they were just as lost as she was.

Getting hot she took off her jacket to keep cool and laid it on the floor next to her. Looking it over a label stuck out. She noticed a handwritten word in black ink written on the label and so she grabbed it quickly. Abbie. Her name was Abbie? She smiled, for once writing your name on your labels actually did something. She picked up the jacket and walked over to where Devren as he was the one she had had the most conversation with.

She pointed at the label as she held her jacket out, she knew her name and he could say it out loud for everyone else. The fact she knew her name made her happy, she's one step closer to finding out everything else.

Sully had been lying awake in a corner of the padded room for a few seconds before he saw movement stir through his blurred vision. He quickly decided to play possum and act as if he was still unconscious. A thousand thoughts were streaming through his mind. Where was he? How did he get here? Who was he?These were just some of the questions Sully had, yet refrained from speaking out, for he heard another noise nearby. How many others were in the room?

Judging from the one sided conversation the man who called himself "Devren" was having with the other person, it seemed as though Sully was in the same boat as the others. He aimed a peek and saw that there were a number of bodies lying on the ground. He tried to count them when yet another person seemed to be arousing from their unconsciousness. A third person joining the attempt at remembering what had happened to the lot of them, Sully found himself trying to think of something himself. My name... What's my name? He shut his already closed eyes tighter, attempting to fish something from his blank memory. S... It definitely starts with S... On the verge of figuring out what his name was, a fifth person awoke. "Ngh... What did I miss? Where are we?"

In the midst of the group's confusion, Sully decided playing dead wouldn't really help him much at this point, considering it seemed everyone in the room was in the same situation. Slowly, he rose to his feet, blinking as he adjusted to his eyes to the bright lights shining down on him. He quickly examined the room for the first time. There was no door. Or window. There was nothing but walls. Rolling his shoulders, Sully furrowed his brow as he turned his attention back to the group on the other side of the room.

Beau nodded along with Devren, her eyes bright with remembrance. "Yeah! We could both be artists...but you're right, there are so many types of art that there's no way to tell...what about you, Ian? Any art flashes?" Though she didn't think there would be, she asked anyway. Ian seemed more like the educational, intelligent, study-all-the-time type. Not the artsy type. She looked to the mute girl and watched her show something to Devren, and she lifted her head so she could see, too. "Abbie? Your name is Abbie? That's great! Handy dandy that you have the name written on your tag..." she smiled in Abbie's direction, then her head snapped to her left as she heard another voice.

Looking over, she saw another newcomer awaken. The new boy rose and looked around. She sighed and waved her hand in the direction of the walls. "We've already examined our options. There's no way out. What's your name?"

Devren nodded at the tag on the mute girl's jacket. "So that's your name, huh? It sounds nice. You must be happy that you have that name." He stated, smiling at her. He thought about how good they were getting through the memories. Even simple names felt like a milestone to him. At the rate we're going, we might get out of here after all! Devren stared at the newest member of the party. He felt a little uncertain about this guy. His scowl seemed almost menacing to him. Then again, who would be pleased to be in a room where you don't know what's happening or who you were?

Devren relaxed and listened to what Beau had to say. Hearing the quick introduction to the event, Devren flicked his head to the guy and said, "My name is Devren. The who talked to you is Beau. The one with the glasses, Ian. And the quiet one's name is Abbie." He almost felt like greeting him, but that would just seem rude and out of place. So, Devren instead took in a deep breath and let it out. He then looked back to his pocket watch and kept flicking it, hoping for it to work. At least it kept him distracted from the madness.

Abbie smiled and nodded at both of the compliments from Devren and Beau, these people were friendly after all. Walking back over to her corner she sat down, if she had her name surely that might lead her to something else? She looked at the newcomer with curious eyes, she was unsure of who to trust, she knew nothing about any of these people after all. Devren was definitely okay and Beau seemed nice enough.

Abbie still wasn't sure how she actually felt about this whole situation, she wasn't freaking out like she probably should be. For all she knew she might've gotten into this room on purpose for one reason or another. Her past self might've gone into this knowing what would happen. This thought calmed her, for a minute she forgot that she didn't know anyone or anything and found solace in the fact that this could all be part of a big plan, like a surprise birthday party, but extreme.

"We've already examined our options. There's no way out. What's your name?"

The young woman with the eyes that were brought out by her dark hair was the first to address Sully. The other three then turned toward him, perhaps not having noticed until the blue eyed girl spoke up. The man in the white t shirt spoke up second. Sully looked toward him warily as he introduced the four of them to him. Sully thought for a long moment, watching Devren as he looked down at an object in his hands. Glancing back to Beau, Sully found himself telling her his name.

"Sully." It had slipped out. Upon his hesitation, Sully hadn't even thought of what to introduce himself as. Now that he had said it though, he felt as if it was fitting. Who knows? Maybe it is my name. He then looked from the man in the glasses to Abbey who had gone to the corner to sit down again. What am I doing here? He eyed the group carefully, his expression seemingly blank, as he remained standing on the far end of the room.

Hearing the name of Sully reminded him of some movie Devren watched before, or really, interacted with before. He thought about it and it felt like the movie was involved with him somehow. Was he a director? A voice actor? He kept flipping through his mind on the options that he could have worked with, but there was definitely a lot of green and blue in the movie.

Devren was going to try and recall why he had these colors in his mind, but the man's screaming to the right of him got him more focused on the situation. He tried to keep himself from yelling as well as the man on the floor screamed and the fell down, shuddering like an insect on the ground. Devren thought to try and meet him face to face, but the other man's face told him otherwise. He kept his distance, trying to protect himself and asked the man, "Are you bleeding? Or is it just your head screaming at you?" Devren had little knowledge on anything medical. Actually, he hadn't no medical knowledge at all at the moment. Thinking about the current situation and looked to the rest of the group his eyes wide in concern.

Beau looked to Devren as he introduced everyone, then her eyes wavered over Sully, "Sully. Nice name." She noticed Devren's narrowed eyes and his perplexed facial expression. She was about to ask him what was going on when suddenly a piercing wail cut through the room. Her eyes snapped over to the convulsing man who had just awoken and then to Devren as he started to speak. Beau coughed a bit before waving her hand at Devren, "that won't help him. But this is ridiculous," she said before standing up and walking over to the wailing man. "Hey! Hey!" She exclaimed, kneeling next to him and keeping her hands on his shoulders so he wouldn't roll around.

"What's happening? We're all trapped in here. It's nothing to scream about." She felt the need to be real with this guy, she knew that no matter what had happened before this room, she had never felt the need to be fake with somebody just to keep them happy. So, she did the same with him. "Maybe if you stop wailing we can get down to the bottom of the problem here."
