Setting
The town and resort were popular with tourists from all over the United States and Europe, thousands of visitors came to Dark Entry lodge each year. Like every town Dark Entry had its share of old legends and myths associated with it. Ironically none of these had much of an impact on the townsfolk, one would expect there to be at least a few individuals interested in such matters, but not in Dark Entry.
Only one legend has gained any popularity in the region, though it is actually the local legend from the next town over. This legend concerns a certain Serial Killer, or at least something which has taken on the role of a maniacal killer. There are others who have a very different take on the legend, one with a rather strange twist, these certain individuals claim that the killer is some kind of supernatural being.
This supernatural being; so these people claim, is not your garden variety evil murderer, but is in fact an Angelic being. Still others claim it is more of a creature then some kind of anthropological menace.
The winter season was coming to an end and some preparation was needed for the lodge to have a successful opening when the sunnier months of the year rolled in. Winter wasn't a particularly busy season, in fact the several falling-deaths had occurred at that time of the year, the place wasn't never completely empty, there were visitors all year round at Dark Entry.
Within the last few years certain unsavory characters have come to stay at the lodge, and the previous owners didn't care much for nosy types. In the last year or so an assortment of Ghost hunter types have vacationed at Dark Entry lodge.
Most of these visits turned up very little to further the interest of hunters, these paranormal researchers would quickly come to the realization that there wasn't much going on in Dark Entry, that no one in town believed in the legends, or even one person who even believe in ghosts.
When it comes to stories about ghosts no place is more famous then Dark Entry forest, these eerie woodlands stand directly behind the lodge and cover over a hundred square miles. In recent years Grizzly bears have shown up in the Colorado woodlands, although no deaths have been reported.
Not even these immense beasts could keep the supernaturally curious from venturing into Dark Entry forest. There is only one thing more frightening then the possibility of getting ripped to pieces by a large ferocious animal, and it can also be found within the woodlands behind Dark Entry lodge.
The old Remington residence stands a few miles into the woods.
If one travels in a perfect line, starting from the second ground level window on the right side of the lodge, finding the abandoned homestead is relatively easy. There is only one problem.......
The house is no longer vacant.
"Ugh, Emma, what?! Stop looking at the townspeople like they're going to turn into werewolves and eat you," Fran said with a groan.
"I'm not!" Emma cried out defensively. "But seriously though, did you guys read all the stories about this place?"
"Yes, Emma," Devan answered. "That's why we came here. High fashion in a creepy little town like this? It's going to be awesome!"
The girl let out a sigh and went back to looking out the window. Before long, they were pulling up to the lodge where the small group would be staying for their week of odd photo shoots around the town. The place was huge and actually looked pretty nice. Emma couldn't wait to explore. Inside, that was. She was still leery about exploring outside.
"I wonder if Sophia is here yet with the wardrobes," Devan muttered as he pulled up in front of the lodge.
"Probably not, she's always late," Fran muttered with a laugh.
Emma glanced at Danni once more with a roll of her eyes before climbing out of the car. Her heels touched down on the soft gravel and she stepped out carefully, not wanting to fall on her face in front of everyone. Devan handed everyone their suitcases from the trunk and they all headed inside to check in. The photographer had the agency credit card, so he would take care of the check in while the ladies waited.
Emma looked around as they headed inside. "I wonder if they've got a bar in here. This looks like a pretty sweet little party town," she said with a hint of sarcasm.
"How about you not worry about getting trashed and finding some poor schmuck to flirt with before we get settled? I've got a shoot planned for downtown at sunset," Devan said.
Emma scrunched up her face at the man, playfully sticking her tongue out. "Fine, fine. After the shoot, then!"
The lobby was a grand spectacle, with its ceiling reaching up a full story, and a most fantastic antique chandelier handing from the center. Along the highest point of each of the four walls the observant visitor will find lush murals, painted by the most renowned artists of Italy and France, brought to the Americas at great cost.
In some of its finer features Dark Entry lodge resembles the finest of European mansions.
Adrian was somewhere about, he spent the majority of his day walking around the lodge, checking rooms for any repairs that might need taken care of. When the Point was full of visitors the lodge was fully staffed, but this was only the very beginning of the busy season and so it was severely understaffed, the people which had already hired weren't due for another five days.
The representative for the modeling agency had done their homework well, they had booked the Point for this very reason; less residents meant less interference from the public, this was particularly important due to the fact that several models were fairly well known in the industry, and so there was a slight possibility of interference by some crazed, obsessed fan.
At this time there was but a handful of employees at the Point, several maids, a young bellhop by the name of Pete Sandoval, and the head repairman Ralph Bermont. Each member of the staff had their own room in the very back right corner of the lodge, these rooms were reserved the least, as this section of the Point faced the old woods.
Danni walked with Emma into the lodge, having less difficulty with her lower heeled boots. "Yea, complete with stripper pole and strippers." She smiled and added to Emma's sarcasm. Blue Green eyes scanned the ceiling curiously, she knew that artist. How in god's name did this lodge afford such an artist in this hick little town? Emma's playful banter with Devan snapped her from her confused intrigue.
"A sunset shoot....really?" She hated sunset shoots, time was limited, therefor frames were limited. Everyone becomes extra up tight, anything to get the perfect shot. "Meh," She took the moment to tease Emma. "Maybe the Harvestman will show up, Oooooo." She wiggled her fingers mockingly at Emma.
"So are we gonna have time to go to our rooms first or is it straight to the shoot when are bags are settled?"
Adrian Etsitty had pleaded with the council ever since that time, asking them to give the bridge some attention, his pleas were largely ignored. The county had its own plans for the land upon which the lodge now rests. The bridge had been constructed for their purposes, eventually the original developers of Dark Entry lodge purchased the lands before the council could close a deal.
Ever since that time relations between the Point and the county have been strained, the lack of general upkeep for the bridge was the ultimate result of this conflict.
The modeling agency had been prudent in choosing this time of the year, a time in which the Point was relatively empty, on the other hand it had been a particularly rough winter with much flooding and several small scale landslides. One of these incidences had caused some damage to the bridges under-structure, the council never sent out a surveyor to asses the extent of the damage.
Devan shook his head and chuckled as he waited for his credit card to be scanned so they could get their room keys. "Don't worry, if we don't get what we need tonight, we're going to be here for a week so we can try again. This is going to be a laid back trip. Just have fun with it." He thanked the man behind the desk and tucked his credit card away after signing the necessary paperwork. He grabbed the small stack of keys and began to hand them out.
"Head to your room first, but don't worry about showering and all that. Clean up a bit, but we're doing heavy makeup and messy hair anyway," he told the two women. "Meet me back down here in twenty minutes." He turned as a new person came in through the door. "Ah, and here is Sophia, so we'll be good."
The blonde haired wardrobe stylist pushed through the door with two giant suitcases, which Devan, ever being the gentleman, ran over to help with. He glanced back to Danni, Emma, and Fran. "Twenty minutes!"
Emma nodded and hurried toward the elevator, eyeing her key. "I'm in 336." She glanced to Danni. "What room are you in?" She pushed the button to go up then leaned on her suitcase as she waited for the doors to open.
Many people had journeyed into Dark Entry forest in search of elusive ghosts and various other supernatural beings which were rumored to haunt the dark eerie woodlands.
Tales such as these had been told by the townsfolk of Dark Entry Colorado for decades, although in recent years the number of explorers and wannabe paranormal investigators has increased and now with the coming of yet another local legend their numbers were destined to rise even further.
There was one thing common to all of these accounts, a trend of facts which will no doubt continue now that the Harvestman myth has been adopted into local folklore.
