Call Card: Siege
Nicknames: Si, or just plain Shaw
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: Zion, Pennsylvania
Powers: Kinetic Energy Absorption - Simon is able to absorb and redirect any form of kinetic energy such as punches, bullets, blades or even being hit by a car. He is capable of redirecting this energy improving himself with enhanced strength, durability, and speed which makes it quite difficult to best him in a head on fight. Of course there are drawbacks, if his energy is underloaded it results in him weakening and unable to throw up his usual defenses. If by some chance Simon is overloaded it could result in mania, incapacitation and even likely death. Overuse is another worry that could leave him completely defenseless. All in all Simon strives for a delicate balance that he isn't quite mature enough to always achieve.
Backstory:
Simon's story is tied inexplicably to his grandfather's, a man he has never been allowed to lay eyes on. Sebastian Shaw, The once powerful Black King, head of the Hellfire Club was deemed much too opportunistic and dangerous to be allowed contact with the son of his estranged daughter. Due to Eleanor Shaw's lack of the x-gene she was never of much use to her father, having been cast off years ago to live an ordinary life away from the madness that surrounded Sebastian. She counted her blessings every day that she was allowed to do as she pleased, love who she wanted and lead her own life which included quite a few short-term torrid love affairs.
While Eleanor loved falling and being in love she never actually took the plunge into marriage, citing her free spirit and lack of concern when it came to paper work. When Simon was born he was given her last name, his father but a memory his mother fiercely tried to forget. Although the child of a single mother, Simon never lacked for love or material goods, being quite doted upon by Eleanor. They lived an unremarkable life by most standards, Simon went to school and did reasonably well while Eleanor worked as a bookkeeper. They had friends in their small town and for all intents and purposes it seemed idyllic. That was until Simon’s life was changed by a reckless accident forever.
When Simon was twelve he was taking his usual route home from school on his bike, the streets in Zion being relatively safe he never much worried about his safety. This belief was shattered when a drunk driver in a battered pickup truck smashed into him and his bike going 45 mph hours, tossing him across the road into a ravine like a rag doll. It was an accident no one could have possibly hoped to have survived; thank goodness that’s when Simon’s mutation manifested. He’d absorbed the concussive force of the truck and was now somehow using the excess energy to heal himself. Nearly four hours Simon emerged unscathed and bewildered, his concern about the hit and run accident quelled by this new ability.
Explaining everything to his mother, Simon tolerated her hysterics at the thought of him being hurt and the revelation that not only was he a mutant but he seemed to share the same mutation as his maternal grandfather. Eleanor had never worried that her vicious father would care much for her illegitimate son, and the possibility of Simon being a mutant had never occurred to her seeing as she wasn’t one herself. She knew that if Sebastian Shaw knew of Simon and his gifts that he would swoop down and take her son from her in order to secure himself a new heir. Something that she vowed would happen over her dead body.
Without delay she turned to the few contacts she retained from her days of railing against the likes of Sebastian and the Hellfire Club. Eleanor would send her one and only child to the people she hoped could protect him and teach him how to manage his powers and not least of all how to remain the sweet, sane boy she’d raised. With much cajoling Simon left his mother behind and headed for Xavier’s School where he’s been living and training ever since, wondering if perhaps a chance meeting with the grandfather he’s heard so much about will ever transpire.
