Introduction
Welcome to The City. It's a city where the police officers work with superheroes and attempt to control the villains. But in this city, the civilians aren't perfectly happy with that. They don't like the idea of these "goddamn mutants" running around and being able to do whatever the hell they want. Sure, they'll cry out for them when they're in trouble, but when they're safe, their opinions change.
So when someone offers to get rid of them for once and for all, most people don't dare ask questions. As the heroes do, they decide to engage in civil negotiations with this man. Maybe some sort of arrangement can be come to. But someone in the "villainous" team gets inside information. It turns out that the other side doesn't intend on engaging on civil negotiation with the heroes- they intend on kidnapping them.
At first, the villains don't do anything, expecting the heroes to break themselves out of it. But then, that doesn't happen. Instead, they actually do get captured. A few escape. Some get recaptured.
One, however, does escape, and goes into hiding. She hears whispers of villains, villains that are smart enough to stay out of the public eye. Smart enough not to get caught. She does some research and finds the name of one, one who has been known to offer themselves out as a mercenary, a master thief for hire. She decides to ask them for help... But can a hero and a villain ever really co-operate?

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 2 authors
Max ducked her head and smiled sheepishly. She meant what she had said. She usually didn't drink so much. In most ways, she felt almost guilty for her predicament. However, if she hadn't drunk so much, she wouldn't have played the guessing game with Willow last night. And that counted for something. She saw Willow's walls come down. She had hope that maybe things would be better between them. Now that Willow knew who she truly was... maybe she could learn to trust her. "Don't worry. I'll have your back even if it kills me." And it very well could. Well.. she knew that at the very least if she had to use her ability, she may end up puking from the pain it would cause in her head. Ah well. It was her fault. She'd deal with the consequences.
When Willow couldn't get to the right box, she requested Max to help her out. She thought a moment--probably a moment too long--which lift would be easier. The sturdier "bench" position or the higher "cheerleader lift" position. She opted for the much higher one. It would be easier for Willow to access and therefore, easier for her to do her thing faster. Max stuck the cookies she had been nibbling on into the front pocket of her jacket--much to her dismay--and brushed the crumbs from her hands. Then she stepped closer to Willow and clasped her hands together to form a cup and she squatted down, ready to lift with her legs and not her back. "Ok. Ready when you are."

When Max squatted down, Willow took a few steps back, before taking a run at Max and stepping into her hands. As she was thrown upwards, she grabbed the box with both hands. It only took a second or two for her to completely overload the box, before landing firmly on both feet.
"Hopefully that didn't trigger any security alarms," she said, and pushed the gate. It swing open easily, and she breathed a small sigh of relief. But when she started walking through the gate, her heart started to pound. She didn't know what she was going to find, and she couldn't exactly prepare herself for it. She kept striding towards his apartment, keeping her cool, calm appearance, but terrified on the inside.
The door to his apartment was still shut, but something was off. Thankfully, Willow knew where he kept his spare key, and let herself in. To anyone else, the apartment was fine. Messy, but fine. But Willow had spent enough time there to know when something was wrong. Winter always tidied up in the mornings, and his apartment was still a mess. He hadn't been home.
"Something's wrong. Start searching," Willow ordered.
Max had to admit that Willow's work on the box was impressive. It honestly probably didn't even take much for her to fry the box, but to Max it was impressive. Willow carefully made her way into Winter's apartment and took a look around. Since Max wasn't sure what Winter's routine was, she watched Willow's movements and noticed the tensing of her shoulders as her eyes darted about the room. Something was wrong. Max swept her gaze over her surroundings and saw that the apartment was messy, but not ransacked. Like someone just hadn't cleaned up, but not like there was a struggle or that anything was missing. Her eyes strayed back to Willow and saw the worry in her face. "Something's wrong. Start searching." Willow ordered her, voicing Max's thoughts.
Max sighed and walked around the room, eyes roaming over piles of things. She was careful not to touch anything. If the neighbors reported Winter missing, the police might get involved and touching the things in his home might lead to some unwanted questions. There had been many rumors surrounding heroes turning villain to avoid being kidnapped and killed. Max didn't want Mockingbird's name on that list for a misunderstanding. Willow was Winter's friend. She probably already had finger prints in the apartment. Still.. Max looked over at Willow. "What exactly am I looking for?" she asked softly, her voice filling up the quiet of the room and breaking the silence that had formed as they searched.

The door had still been locked. Which, presumably, meant that Winter hadn't been home at all. But Winter was also a big, strong guy, and not an idiot. He would have walked home on well lit routes where he knew there would be people around. And someone like him getting in a fight would have been noticed. So. He would have had to have been intercepted in the apartment building itself. His neighbours wouldn't have had a problem with buzzing in an unfamiliar guy, especially if he said he was a friend of Winter's. So she needed to try and get to the security office. Getting Winter out would have been difficult, though. Carrying him out would have been too conspicuous.
"There's..." She swallowed. "There's a chance that they left him here. Getting someone like Winter out wouldn't have been an easy thing to do. Either that, or they somehow got him to leave of his own accord. Blackmailed him or something." She looked over at Max. "Shit, I should have brought gloves for you, shouldn't I? Sorry, not used to having to look after somebody else as well. Just... start checking the other rooms. Yell if... if you find anything."
Max sighed and shuffled about the room, trying not to mess with too much. She looked around each room for signs of a struggle or of a fight. Unfortunately, while the home was a mess, it was the kind of disorganized chaos that came with living and not from any particular incident. The bathroom had a few towels lying about, but none were soaked in blood or anything similar. The kitchen floor was clean of scuff marks and possible blood stains. The knives seemed to be all there from what Max could tell so none were taken as weapons. She half listened for Willow while she looked. The bedroom was as messy as you'd expect for belonging to a man. After about thirty minutes of searching, Max gave another loud sigh and went to find the security office and Willow.
When she found it, she leaned against the door frame and reported her findings. Aka nothing. A big fat goose egg. Nothing. Nada. "Are you sure he didn't go somewhere else? Potentially helping another friend?" She added afterwards.

Luckily for her, the office was empty. As she scanned the screens, it seemed they were attempting to deal with the suddenly malfunctioning gate. She grinned, and started clicking through the computers, trying to see if she could figure out where the footage was stored. It didn't appear to be stored on the computer itself, which was a smart move. There was, however, a server connected to one of them, which she managed to weasel her way into it. There, she found the footage. The first file she encountered was dated the previous day's date, which she clicked into and opened. As expected, there was no sound, but it also wasn't for Winter's floor. She kept opening files until she found the right one. She started skipping through it, looking for Winter. Him going out to work. Him coming back again. Him going out again, presumably to meet her. Then, she found it. Two big, burly guys. Waiting outside his apartment. Then, Winter showing up. Him raising his hands to fight- and the footage cut out as the time hit 00:00. "Dammit!" She started searching again. The most recent file had to be here somewhere, had to be stored locally.
Max sighed as Willow left the apartment to search through the security office. It wasn't that Max believed that Winter was fine and had just walked away for whatever reason. It was the fact she could see Willow's mind becoming distracted.
Sure she was focused on the finding of Winter, but Max had a feeling that she wasn't keeping track of her surroundings as much as she normally would have. Or, she usually got this way and had someone to watch her back. Like Winter. This time Max would have to be that person. Her stomach had settled, more or less, and the pounding of her head quieted to little more than an annoying pulsating at her temples, but it was small enough of a pain that she could ignore it. She made her way down the hall after Willow,
watching for signs of movement or watchful eyes. If they had made more noise, she would've suspected people watching from their peepholes as she often found to be the case when she would wander through similar buildings while on her own cases. Especially when she was searching for her missing heroes.
She found the office easily enough. The door was open, but not ajar, and she could hear Willow softly working through the computer.
Max slipped inside, silent as a shadow for which her new Alias came from and stood behind Willow. If the girl noticed her presence,
she didn't say anything. Max watched the footage over Willow's shoulder and noticed how it cut out. The girl let out a sound of frustration and went back to trying to find the file. Max broke the silence. "What if they have abilities and used them to block the footage? Erase part of it or something?"

"No. Not the issue. It's more that they have old footage and any footage from today are apparently stored differently. I can see their face in this one." She said, quickly emailing the file to herself. "Which is a start. At least. I don't know what's happening, and it's possible that they move around where their footage is kept, or something like that. Or maybe they dealt with the newer file and not the new one. Either way, there doesn't seem to be much more we can do, and I'm aware that the guards are going to be back here. We need to get out of here. I'll theorise more when I get home," she said.
She knew that she was distracted and that she was off her form. She was doing her best to minimise it, but suddenly the lurking danger that had been in their lives for the past few months was very present and very real. And she also couldn't deny that this was possibly her fault. She couldn't shake that and she didn't want to dwell on it either.
"Come on. Probably better not to be out after dark at the minute," she said, getting to her feet and making sure the computers were returned to their previous state.
