As the red fox listened to the chief's reply, he took a parting glance to note the stallion who seemed to be studying Todd with great interest. Realizing that Razzul was not the only one here that needed convincing, Todd determined to be quick and to the point, for he wanted to get out of here as soon as was practical. Although just running away in mid-conversation was always an option, there was no reason to chase him other than trying to reprimand him for rude behavior.
As the green and white wolf finished his dictate, Todd carefully considered his reply. He knew it would be foolish to say that he hailed from Forte, as then it would be expected that the citizens there would recognize him. Not to mention he would have to travel the extensive journey with the chief and his sharp eyed guard, as Todd assumed that was who the horse was. However, if Todd chose Razzul's other suggestion, to stay in Foresta, he could leave as soon as Razzul's company was down the trail and around the next bend, if he wasn't under intensive care. He might be able to do some snooping around as well, considering that this was the capital. Glance at a classified document here, change troop orders there, and so on. If he played his cards right, the resulting events could end in war, thus hastening the decline of civilization, and the return to a lifestyle of how Mother Nature intended it to be! But of course, that was a best case scenario, he wasn't even sure he would want to stay in the capital any longer than was necessary.
Choosing his words carefully, Todd began his reply. "I appreciate your concern and have considered you offer, but I have always believed that the sick and the wounded should heal the way that Mother Nature intended, with time," he started, letting his words sink in. "In regards to your concerns of Forte, I was simply in the area on business when the unfortunate accident happened." This much was true, he was only out there exploring new territory. Finishing up in the most convincing way he could word it, Todd said "Though to reject your gracious invitation to rest in the capital would be unthinkable, I would be honored to take time there to recouporate before heading out again."
