Darci listened as the teacher explained Pythagorean Theorem to the class. Being in honors math in 8th grade, she had touched on it briefly, but never quite got it. Why did anyone have to know Pythagorean Theorem? it was just like slope and polynomials in her opinion: pointless. When was she ever going to use any of them except for in school? Probably never.

The teacher pointed out a few problems and told the students to look them over. When Darci started to look them over and take some notes, the cheerleader next to her spoke. "Hey there, you're new right?" Finding this to be extremely random, Darci didn't say anything. All she did was nod in her head in response. Maybe this girl wasn't mean like Darci thought, or maybe she was and wanted to play with her like a puppet. Whatever it was, Darci chose to play it safe and take precaution in what she were to do now and in the near future. She couldn't say anything crazy or personal to someone she had just met, especially a cheerleader. In her past experience, she learned never to trust them unless she knew them earlier in life. It was challenging to know who she could trust, but she learned to adapt to no one on the team. Then again, that was last year.
