Never before in her life had this ever happened to her.

A god damn bird, a blue jay, had landed on her head and she only wished she had a camera with her to take proof of it. She didn’t even want to move an inch, both because she kinda wanted it to stay there for the pure enjoyment of the peculiar situation, but also because she didn’t want it to sink it’s weird bird talons into her head as those birds were known too be a little aggressive; or worse, she didn’t want it to let out of some bodily function because she’d spooked it.

She’d left her loft in the early evening, careful not to wake her snoring brother in the room next to hers who was taking one of his many popular naps. She took off on her motorcycle, but wasn’t really planning on going anywhere- just around. She did that a lot. It was nice living in the city of Chicago, sure once you’ve lived their for awhile it loses some of it’s specialness, and its unique qualities blend in and become the ‘norm’, but Jace always liked to just drive around, discovering new tucked away places and things to do. This time, she had discovered a new hiking trail, one that was obviously just naturally made by peoples foot steps who followed suite one after the other. She ended up in a small clearing area after following down it twenty minutes or so. It was surrounded by a bunch of wild flowers and trees, and she took spot on a fallen tree trunk, just to sit and stay awhile. She’d always felt comfortable around nature, simply content with being surrounded by it and not really doing anything. So there she sat, and that’s when the bird flew down upon her head, and so decided to stay for a half an hour straight.

She really needed to be getting home before her brother woke up and freaked out at her for just leaving, especially without taking her phone with her. Dorian was always a little more… overprotective. He had actually disowned and left the family when he was very young- not wanting to live the life style Jace’s parents had set up for him. The royal life style, especially of demons, was one with some serious responsibilities and expectations. This left their next of kin, their only daughter, in line for the title. That person was Jace. Her brother who was nearly six years her senior let her live with him in the human world when she turned eighteen, however. This was mostly because he felt bad dumping all the responsibilities on her. This let her live as normal of a life she could- if only for a little while. She was nineteen now, Dorian being twenty five, but he still treated her as a kid. Over protective brothers sound nice and all, until you actually have one.

It’s probably why she hung out with her best friend Kelila so much and stayed over at her place a bunch.

Jace was getting a little anxious, now more then ever not knowing what to do with the bird. She was trying to come up with multiple ideas in her head, but the sound of a snapping twig had started it enough that it flew away without so much as giving Jace a scratch. She cheered a little bit in her head. Getting up from the log quickly, she ran down the trail and hopped onto her motorcycle, which she left tucked away behind some bush. Turning it on, she pulled back onto the road, and made her way back to her apartment.

Walking up the slightly more than creepy stone stair well, up to the ninth floor, she muttered a silent curse to the broken elevator which was supposed to be fixed more than two days ago. She was just glad she didn’t live on the twentieth floor. Opening the steel door to her floor, she twirled her keys in her fingers, humming softly to herself as she approached her door, swinging it open, only to be greeted by an agitated sounding brother. “Where were you!” He grumbled to her, stalking towards her with some serious bed head. “Making an animal friend,” she smiled teasingly, removing her leather jacket and dumping her helmet on the couch. “Well, your phone has been buzzing non-stop.” He mumbled tiredly, before stalking back into his own bedroom. Jace’s eyes shot open in surprise, as she went to check her phone which was filled with text’s from Kelila, double checking if she was still on for dinner which she was fifteen minutes late for at this point. Jace was always this forgetful, so she wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Kelila herself would have just gotten to the restaurant now, or if she waited for her conformation text.

Quickly unlocking the cell phone, she shot her a text saying, 'I didn’t forget, I’m on my way now!'

“This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever read!” Ezra groaned loudly to himself, running a hand through his hair before taking his reading glasses off his face.

Who in their right mind would even dream of writing a book about some silly sparkling vampire who basically calls a girl a hard core drug in order to get his feelings across. Who wants to be told ‘Yeah, I really just want to kill you and suck your blood’ romantically? Then again, Ezra was a twenty one year old male, and not a teenage girl obsessed with young adult fiction and these types of romances, but he couldn’t exactly see what the exact craze was. Maybe he could get past the odd family bond going on and the fact the dude was kind of a dick in his own way in order to see the dark and unknowing romance as a plus, but that was kind of it. In all honestly he was more emotionally invested to the background characters and their own stories rather then the two that were offered to him. He had spent the whole bloody day finishing the Twilight book, and he felt rotted to the core. The only reason he started reading it in the first place was because he met some girl in the book store who actually suggested it to him, tempting him with the fact it was about vampires. Ezra liked his old supernatural folkelore, but this was not at all what he had been suspecting it to be. As it turns out also, there’s three more freaking books he was going to have to read because now he was curious and invested, and couldn’t just end the series without knowing what happens. They even made movies of the things, and he could only imagine the shuddering horror of viewing it. As it is, Ezra already hates televisions and movies, so it was just all too much for him.

Tucking the book under his arm, he stood up from his lawn chair which he had put on his buildings roof top, his favourite place to be, only to notice it was going dark outside. He had been up here since the late morning reading all 498 pages, and it looks like the time past right bye him.

Making his way back into his tiny apartment, he threw the book on the coffee table where a bunch of others where scattered, before moving into his tiny kitchenette area. Filling his growing old kettle with water, he turned it on, hopping onto his counter as he waited for it it boil. Pulling his phone out his back pocket, he noticed a few notifications but ignored them, just simply checking the time. Ezra wasn’t the biggest fan of technology. He barley ever used his phone unless needed, and even if he did, he wasn’t exactly tech savvy. He often had to ask his best friend Nathan about what some of the more weird features where.

The kettle started whistling, and he moved off the counter to turn it off. Reaching into his dishwasher, the boy grabbed a mug and filled it with the hot water afterwards putting a cheap branded earl grey tea bag in it. He took a sip of the scolding hot cup and was satisfied. It was around time for dinner, and he knew a tea wasn’t quite going to satisfy his cravings, so he moved swiftly around to all his cupboards, checking for things to eat. Most of it was soup cans or kraft dinner, as he really needed to go shopping, but he wasn’t feeling it. He could pop over to the grocery store quick and pick up some ingredients, as he was a fairly good cook, but it just seemed like too much effort. So, there was a third plan. Grabbing his jacket from the coat rack by the door, he left the house, cup of tea in hand, making sure to lock the door behind him. He sometimes wanted to test out if someone would break into his house, thinking it be funny for someone to actually steal from an Angel. Wouldn’t that be the story to tell.

As soon as he stepped onto the concrete side walk, he opened a new carton of cigarettes and stuck one in his mouth, doing so all one handed. He then lit it up with his almost empty lighter, and he slightly wish he could manipulate fire instead of being able to dream walk. However, that was a pretty well known Demon trait and not at all an Angel one, so he pushed the thought to the back of his head. Making his way southward, he got a couple of looks as he kept drinking from his mug, but he was used to it. This really was just a normal Ezra thing to do.

About ten minutes later, he arrived at another building, and stood outside the locked glass doors. He would have needed to buzz Nathan’s number in order for him to let him up, but an elderly lady walked out the doors and Ezra held it open for her. After she walked away, he stomped out the cigarette, and strolled right inside and into the elevator, taking him up to his best friends floor, and ultimately to his door.

Knocking on it, he called, “It’s the man of your dreams!” after chugging down the rest of his tea. He knew the boy inside would know exactly who it was, however, a woman walked by just as he said it, and despite the odd glance she gave him, he simply winked back in her direction before turning his attention back to the door in front of him.
