Oscar hated to be late to just about anything, especially work, and so he walked into the building at around 7:30 dressed in khaki chinos paired with a light blue dress shirt and a burgundy tie. The extra time would give him a moment to grade some papers and eat his breakfast in peace without his neighbors screaming on either side of his townhouse. Sometimes, he swore he would move as far away as he could when he finally made his money.
What made coming in early most appealing, however, was the fact that he could have the time to place a note in Sophia's locker without suspicion arising. He'd felt a level of fear almost constantly at work since they had become a thing years ago, and though he most certainly took the proper precautions, he couldn't help but always feel watched. As he set down now at his desk to write her a note, he continued to feel this way, but nevertheless, he began to pen one out, beginning with the final stanza of Lord Byron's "She Walks in Beauty." He often did this, leaving her notes following a snippet of poetry that seemed to remind him of her. He had used other portions of this one before, and perhaps the whole poem at some point, but the final stanza rung true with him. Damn him and his romantic tendencies. He finalized it with a question of his own, written in more of his own hand than the calligraphy he had used for the poem:
"I miss you so much - are you free to visit at some point today?"
He quickly folded up his note and walked out into the hallway, following the familiar path to her locker where he very subtly slipped the paper in before continuing on the same path lest someone were watching him. His circumventive path took him a bit out of the way, but he returned to his room by the time the first students began to trickle into the building. Well, he obviously wasn't going to grade papers now, but at least he had time to run over his lesson plans for the day.
