The thought remained for only a few seconds, and then Hina shook his head violently. Now I just sound arrogant! And it's not like he'll want to be my friend again after all I've done, apologies or not. I might as well just get through the last month of the year, and then I won't hurt him ever again. Hinata stumbled up the stairs to his floor and unlocked his apartment, lingering in the doorway for moment as if hesitating to enter the empty darkness inside. XX
Just like every other night in the past few weeks, Hinata went straight to bed, spending the night tossing and turning with the same nightmares that had been growing progressively worse. He figured it was probably some sort of punishment for hurting Makoto. The walk to school was plain as usual, and when he got there, he was ignored by everyone, as usual. He headed to his class and took his seat without so much as a glance at anyone else, pulling out his homework and skimming over it to make sure he'd completed all the parts. The lesson started, and the first half of the day passed without error. XX
Hinata ate his lunch behind the vending machine, which had become unused after students realized it was where he spent his breaks. The silence was both appreciated and loathed. Staring nostalgically at the array of drawings in his sketchbook, Hina wondered what it would be like of he had never given up on Makoto. Would they be dating by now? By this time, would their relationship have gotten intimate? He would probably never get to know. XX
It wasn't until he was leaving the school that Hinata realized Makko hadn't come to school that day. According to the conversation he'd overheard, Chitose had been asking around if anyone had seen him, since he apparently hadn't been answering his cell phone. Instantly Hina felt guilty. If Makoto was depressed, he was definitely the reason, and he still couldn't help but regret his choice to cut all ties with the boy. Luckily, no one seemed to notice that he'd been eavesdropping, and Hinata made it home without being bothered. Even if he were upset though, I doubt he would skip classes like that... XX
Hina scolded himself for letting his brain wander, and had to remind himself that it wasn't his business anymore. They were no longer friends, so he had no business in worrying about his classmate. However, his disdain toward the subject turned to curiosity when he found an envelope taped onto his door. XX
