Possunt nec posse videntur

They can what it seems they cannot
(SRC Team Nine motto)

The Milky Way, 2320

You are a member of SG, a human PMC operating in every corner of the Milky Way Galaxy. SG provides mercenaries, security specialists and elite private peacekeepers to governments and supergovernments throughout the Milky Way, and the organization is widely considered one of the best in their field, even by comparison with larger and more powerful alien mercenary companies and private armies. More importantly, it is the only human PMC that have managed to cut out a portion of the business intergalactically and off their own home planet. As a member of SG's crack Special Rendition Cells, you are a shadowy special ops agent tasked with carrying out the most dangerous missions that fall under SG's contracts. You are loyal to SG only, and any cause you fight for is fleeting at best. To you, "peace" is the objective, and "war" is the means to achieve it.

Now, your next Area of Operations have been decided. SRC Team Nine - your unit - is being deployed by SG to the war-torn planet of Guinam, where a human anti-alien insurgency is threatening the stability of all of Galactic Confederacy Space. The Galactic Confederacy Ruling Council have awarded SG a multi-trillion credit contract to crush the insurgency in order to prevent spreading the instability on Guinam off-world. SG place their faith in the 4th Auxiliary Legion, one of the most combat-hardened of SG's auxiliary legions, known for its long traditions and its status as an elite fighting force. You, as part of the 4th Auxiliary, SRC Team Nine, will spearhead the peacekeeping operations on Guinam. Without failure, you must pacify the war-torn planet, and live to fight another day, another mission, on another planet. Because Guinam is only the beginning of your career as an SG legionnaire.

To: SRC Team Nine, 4th Auxiliary Legion, SG Ground Combat Forces
Location: Camp Roman, Galzburg, Earth Colony Mars
Subject: Deployment Notice

Deployment to Galactic Confederacy Space, central Milky Way Galaxy, confirmed. SG has been contracted by Confederacy Authorities to provide peacekeeping services on Planet X43R56 (Otherwise known as "Guinam"). Deployment notice encompass all members of the 4th Auxiliary Legion. SRC Team Nine will spearhead SG operations on Guinam, and additionally, will serve in the role of planetary, stand-in Tier One counter-terrorism unit under the authority of the Guinam Interim Government, until a local Tier One unit can be organized. Orders will henceforth be received not only from SG Guinam Command, but also from proper channels of the Galactic Confederacy Ministry of Interior, Guinam Division.

Deployment of SRC Team Nine will commence at 1800 hours, Central Martian Time. All SRC Team Nine operators are to turn in all equipment except for personal. Necessary materiel will be re-issued on-site at Base Camp Ozanga, Guinam, where SRC Team Nine will be headquartered for the duration of their operations on the planet. Any questions regarding this notice are deferred to immediate SRC officers and NCO's.

Subject:Orders

My fellow operators,

We have received our orders. At 1800 hours today, we will leave Mars onboard the SGV Maurateng, en route to Base Camp Ozanga, Guinam. The duration of our deployment is initially set for six months, after which we are scheduled to be relieved by SRC Team Seven. It will no doubt be a difficult deployment, but I have faith in all of you. We have fought together many times in the past, and I, as our commanders, know what you are capable of. The SG Knights Division are the men and women that you see on SG recruitment ads. We are operating constantly in their shadows, the hidden sword that never falters, and never breaks. Do not forget that this strength stems from the comrades next to you, whose lives depend on you in battle.

I have faith in you, my fellow legionnaires.

Races

Mannadi

Mannadi are a humanoid race of slightly insect-like beings, notable for their bodies being covered in tough but flexible, rubber-like white skin, and their colorful manes of hair. They are a proud race of beings, whom, despite their threatening appearance are pacifists. Native to Guinam, most Mannadi on the planet are involved in the Guinamese agricultural system, and have little interest in most issues beyond that, though recently, Mannadi have become involved in the politics of their planet. Most members of the Guinam Interim Government are Mannadi, and they have a permanent seat with the Galactic Confederacy Ruling Council.

As a peaceful race, the Mannadi involve themselves in politics, but few of them are part of the Guinamese Defense Army. They are known for their cool and level-headed nature and their rationality, all of which make them excellent diplomats, but not very good soldiers.

Image

Vinoans

Vinoans are a race of blue-skinned, lizard-like humanoids native to the desert planet of Vinoa. There is, however, a large population of Vinoans on Guinam as well, as the planet was once colonized by Vinoan conquerors thousands of years ago. Today, Vinoans together with Mannadi make up a major part of the Guinamese political life, but they are also found to be excellent tactical leaders within the Guinamese Defense Army. While rarely seen at the forefronts of battle, they are often found in support roles in the GDA, where their cold logic and rational thinking allows them to make tough decisions to ensure a successful outcome to a mission.

Image

Zephyrians

Zephyrians are a race of cat-like humanoids, native to the planet of Zephyr within the Confederacy. They are a war-like race usually tied together in loose-knit clan systems. However, on Guinam, they have organized and integrated into the Guinamese society as full citizens. They are known for their martial skills, and are often found at the forefronts of battle within the Guinamese Defense Army, where they are valued as highly skilled soldiers.

Zephyrian females are also renowned as highly adept military tactical masterminds, and as such, often take up positions as generals and other high-ranking officers within the Guinamese Defense Army. Many of GDA's most legendary leaders have been female Zephyrians.

Image

Barsam

Barsam are a race of brutish humanoids noticeable for their blue, scale-like skin, their huge feet and hands, and their horned heads. They are hotheaded, proud warriors who, together with Zephyrians and humans make up the bulk of the Guinam Defense Army's fighting forces. Once a barbaric people who fought each other in duels of honor using the horns on their heads, the Barsam are today a highly adaptable race of soldiers, who use firearms as well as glaives in battle. Very few Barsam rise through the ranks of the GDA to reach higher positions, however it is not unheard of, and those Barsam who have made it to higher ranks have become known for their strong leadership, and their daringness in battle.

Image

NON-GUINAM RACES:

Elfiin

Elfiin are an elf-like alien race with bright blue skin and pointed ears. They are known as a peaceful race of artisans, but they are highly advanced and have a mighty military that defends their territory efficiently. The Elfiin are located in a region of the Milky Way called "the Perfect Rim", and are a military superpower and an important member of the Galactic Confederacy. They have a long history of conflict with the Indorians because of the latter's war-like nature, and just as long a history of aiding weaker civilizations in the galaxy against oppressive enemies. The Elfiin were key in establishing the Galactic Confederacy hundreds of years ago after the Last Great Galactic War. They are known to be deadly soldiers as well as great generals, and few in the galaxy would ever dare to bring military conflict to the doorsteps of the Perfect Rim.

Image

Indorians

Indorians are said to be genetically related to the Elfiin, something that one can see by their similar appearance, though they lack the pointy ears of the Elfiin. The Indorians also differ from the Elfiin in that they are almost exclusively white-haired, and has golden-hued skin. They are a warrior society based around a class and school system similar to that of ancient Sparta on Earth, wherein all children are raised to become warriors first and foremost. Their governing system is similarly designed to favor power and strength in their leadership. The Indorians are led by a Presidential Council, consisting of the heads of Indora's ten most powerful noble houses. While this was once a position fought over in bloody conflicts, today it is traditional, and membership of any of the noble houses in the Presidential Council has not been questioned in the last five hundred years. Because of their conquering nature, the Indorian Empire have a long history of conflict and war with the Elfiin, the latest being the Elfiin War, when the Perfect Rim was invaded by Indora, though this took place roughly a hundred years ago. Today, Indoria has taken to a more peace-like nature, where they employ their skills as soldiers for the betterment of the galaxy, such as as peacekeepers, and patrolling the far reaches of the Milky Way.

Image

Nordics

A humanoid race of beings that look almost indistinguishable from humans. They are usually a head higher than an ordinary human, and they are named "Nordics" because of their "Nordic" type appearance, with blond hair and blue eyes, and somewhat pale skin. They are fair, and slenderly built. The Nordics along with the Elfiin are one of the most important and influential races in the Galactic Confederacy. They are originally from the GAL Universe, and unlike humans they do not call themselves Nordics, but rather, Lyrians. Some Nordics tend to take offense to being called by the 'Nordic' term. The Nordics are peaceful and detest all forms of violence. However, they are not above defending themselves if attacked, and they have a powerful military, with especial focus on their Navy's gigantic destroyers.

Base Camp Ozanga
SG 4th Auxiliary Legion Operational HQ
Vazmar Region, Guinam

A roaring sound seemed to tear a line across the blue sky of Guinam. Shelton Black looked out the side of the hovercopter, only to see one of the Guinamese Defense Army's ancient-looking jet fighters roar past the base camp. Unlike SG, which had near limitless funds to equip their forces with any and all equipment they needed, the GDA was a well-trained fighting force that lacked most forms of modern military equipment - something that SG was hoping to change during the operation. Quickly losing interest, he looked back inside, where SG's SRC Team Nine were sitting in the seats and on the floor, lazily waiting for the time they'd arrive at Base Camp Ozanga. After what Black had seen from photos, Ozanga wasn't large for a base camp.

It was roughly 300 m x 300 m, and contained everything that SG needed, from garage, to helicopter platrform, to semi-bunker buildings for living quarters, to a shooting range, and considerable defensive positions in the form of HESCO walls filled with sand or dirt, accompanied by trenches with sharpened wooden pikes in them, located just outside the walls. The 4th Legion's 2nd Light Infantry Battalion had stationed a rifle company at Ozanga as well, numbering the soldiers stationed there at around 600 men altogether - 600 men that were responsible for the security in two large regions of the planet. It was a serious case of understaffing, but SG would make do, as always.

Music was pouring out of a speaker in the hovercopter, reflecting the crew's own twisted sense of humor. Black himself sat on the edge of the opening with a cigarette hanging lazily in the side of his mouth, and his Chain rifle across his legs, staring at the dull forest landscape passing them by below. Not all of Guinam was covered with forest. Much of it was jungle, or rainforest, but there was also deserts and mountains on the planet, not to mention vast oceans. The region that they had been stationed in, however, was almost all rainforest, forest and mountains - which came with its own challenges, of course. They roared past a plantation village, and he could see Zephyrians and Minoans wave cheerfully at them as they passed, reminding him that SG were welcomed by all but, ironically, their own fellow humans, on the planet, simply because it was humans that had caused the outbreak of the civil war by massmurdering other aliens on Guinam. They were there to end that, and the aliens of Guinam knew that.

"So you guys are going to Base Camp Ozanga?" The machine-gunner in the side of the hovercopter shouted at them over the soft roaring of the hovercraft engines. Black nodded at him, and the man grinned. "You guys are lucky. Ozanga's in one of the hottest regions of Guinam, where the Chimps - the Chimurenga, the insurgents, I mean - are most active. There'll be plenty of action for you guys." He made a thumbs up to the soldiers, grinning as he did.
Black, though, didn't reply. Instead, he looked out the side thoughtfully, wondering if he was expected to see that as a good thing, which he didn't really do.

Soon after, the hovercopter slowed down to a halt, and began to descend vertically towards the hoverpad, and Base Camp Ozanga grew larger and larger below them as they descended. Before they landed, Black caught a glimpse of large amounts of soldiers, a shooting range - and plenty of armored vehicles, both airborn and ground-based. As soon as they landed, he grabbed his equipment, and said: "Alright, folks. Disembark." He grabbed his backpack, and stepped outside, his boots landing in the sand as the hovercopter stirred up a shitstorm of dust with its engines. An unusually young captain with sharp, intelligent eyes, wearing SG's greyish field uniforms was waiting for them, and Black approached, his backpack in one hand, and the chain rifle in the other. The name tag on the captain's uniform said "Valentine".

"Captain, Lieutenant Black and SRC Team Nine reporting for duty." He said.

"Good." The man said, returning Black's salute. His eyes turned to the rest of the squad, and as soon as the hovercopter took off, the dust settled, and the air grew quiet, he turned to the squad, and spoke: "Welcome to Base Camp Ozanga, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Captain Pip Valentine. I've been put in charge of SRC Team Nine, and will be your commanding officer for the duration of your stay here." He continued: "Unfortunately, we're a bit short on time as we have had an urgent mission delivered to us just minutes ago."

"So, what I want you to do is, drop your gear over in building 12. It's the wooden building close to the walls, the one half-buried under the surface. We do that to make it less vulnerable to mortar attacks - the Chimurenga love to sneak up on SG base camps and attack us using mortars. Furthermore, you also need to check in with Armory and be issued your ammunition. Once you're done with that, you will find me in the briefing room in TOC bunker 2." As he spoke, he pointed out the direction of each building in the camp. "Be there in an hour. Until then, get your gear unpacked and suit up for combat. Dismissed." He made a gesture to Black, and added: "Lieutenant, a word with you before you go." Black stayed as his soldiers wandered off to carry out their orders.

Cass sat with her long legs stretched out in front of her and her arms behind her head, occasionally she would pull a drag off her cigarette before returning to that position. Compared to some of the aircraft drops she had been in this one was actually quite peaceful and she welcomed it as she knew things were probably going to go to hell very quickly from here on. She had already visually assessed her team mates particularly those in Helix squad as they were the ones who would guard her back and she theirs. So far they all seemed seasoned like she did although she wondered about the pretty small thing that seemed to be her medic. But then Cass had met someone like once before and had quickly discovered just how tough she was so she would wait and reserve judgement. She hadn't really bothered trying to talk as the engines would drown out most of the noise and besides she wanted a few moments for herself before the shit hit the fan as she knew it would.

As the hovercopter came into to land she got a better look at what was to be her new home and thought it didn't looks so bad, a bit smaller than some camps she had been in but as long as it had a power point and a bed she was happy. She grinned and waved a few of the aliens she saw waving at them as they passed and reflected on how nice it was to be welcomed by the locals. Not all the places she had been had been quite so welcoming. As they touched down she clambered out of the 'copter and stood to attention as a young captain approached them. She saluted and waited as they were given their orders. It came as no surprise to her that they were being sent out on a mission already, she knew that this place was hot when she had been recruited and would have been more surprised if they had been left cooling their heels.

Once dismissed she grabbed her gear, which consisted of a large backpack and holdall and her weapons, and started striding towards the building she had been directed to. She paused for a moment to light up a cigarette and swore under her breath as her lighter failed.
"Just my bloody luck."

Victoria leaned back and closed her eyes, ignoring the few strands of hair that had fallen across her face. She'd never liked to fly; not so much that she was afraid, it just wasn't something she enjoyed. Not to mention the noise; one had to yell just to have a normal conversation. In that regard, Tori refrained from speaking onside the hovercopter. Normally, she'd be talking nonstop, cracking a joke or two. But not when it was so loud, in their small space, with all of the crew members crammed together.

In an attempt to get her mind off the present, she pulled the chain that was clasped around her neck from beneath her shirt. Revealing a ring. She fingered it, letting the warmth of her fingers encounter the metallic coolness of the ring. The smoothness of it glided beneath her fingertips. It calmed her.

In no time at all, she heard Capt. Lt. Blake's brisk voice shouting the command "Disembark." Victoria slowly stood, allowing her cramped muscles a few moments to stretch. After re-securing her weapons, she grabbed her medical kit and walked off the hovercopter.

She listened to the instructions given to them by Valentine, then walked off to the first building he'd mentioned. "Just my bloody luck." Tori looked over to see a woman, about her age, trying to light a cigarette - however, her lighter wasn't working. Personally, Tori was opposed to smoking. It was just another way to speed your death along. How was it appealing to breath in a bunch of smoke? If they saw what it did to them internally, they wouldn't be so quick to light one. But, when people start, they then need it to get by. She understood addictions. "Here." Victoria said, handing over a lighter she carried. "I don't smoke, but I always carry a lighter. Never know when you're gonna need it. I'm Victoria, by the way...the medic."

Cass glanced up as someone passed her a lighter and nodded her thanks to the young woman who now stood beside her. She lit the cigarette, breathed in deeply and passed Victoria her lighter back. She sighed quietly in sheer enjoyment of the moment and then shouldered her gear once more and began walking again. She glanced beside her to make sure the other woman was following as it wouldn't be a good thing if she got off to a bad start with the one who might have to fix her up.

"I'm Cass." She said after a minute or two. "Don't ever call me Cassandra unless you want to piss me off. You remember that and we're going to get along great." Her British accent was obvious through her words and got stronger when she cursed which was often.
Around them base camp was a hive of activity with soldiers running to and fro most likely running errands for their CO's, to one side a group were playing basketball, others were crawling over various vehicles and machinery including the hovercopter they had just disembarked from. She nodded to any soldiers who passed but was not offended when they did not nod back as most were too busy to pay attention to yet another new arrival.

Eventually she arrived at their new home and she whistled as she walked inside, deciding that she had had to sleep in places a lot worse. At least this had bunks and storage space and was clean not like some of the dumps she had had to bed down in on previous occasions. She picked a bed and began unpacking her gear starting with her datapad which she unwrapped carefully and did a quick visual check to ensure it was still undamaged. In no time at all she had her gear stowed and everything set out how she liked it. As she worked she chatted to Victoria figuring now was as a good as time as any to get to know her especially as they were on the same squad.

"So you'll be fixing me up huh, good to know. "Cass said. "If you hadn't guessed already I'm the computer geek for our squad." She said as she tapped keys and checked over screens.

Luke looked through the windows of the helicopter ignoring everything else, eying all of the beautiful scenery. He wouldn't mind taking a vacation here if it wasn't in an entire different planet and full of war... to change the subject he looked over to the people who lived on this planet Guinam. The people he saw were the Zephyrians and Vinoans, he had researched them during his time in school studying the different species of the galaxy, knowing about the history of the species' and how they would be useful in battle along with many other topics of information. When they got close enough he could see them all waving at them happily. Luke admired that, even though the planet they inhabited was full of war they were still happy. Perhaps it was because this wasn't their home planet and they could just go back to their own, or they could be along with the overtakers of this planet and so they are happy. Luke thought of many other scenarios but he went with they are strong willed and full of hope, mostly because Luke looked for the good in others always. "Alright, folks. Disembark." Lieutenant Black announced. Luke did just that. After they received their "orders" Luke went straight to it fast as possible eager to make peace. As soon as he was done he reported back waiting patiently.

As Zack got off the hovercopter he heard two women talking.
"If you hadn't guessed already I'm the computer geek for our squad."
Interesting. I guess I'm going to have some competition. thought Zack, pausing for a moment to think of a proper challenge.
"Hey, uh... Cass, is it? Well, either way, you mentioned being nerd? Pop quiz, whats the difference between RAM and ROM?" asked Zack, waiting for an answer. "Wait... Is that a Manitoba SSD, 40 mm Semi-Automatic Grenade Launcher? Nice. I guess great minds do think alike."
He then pulled out his data-pad and started looking for local systems accessing wireless up-links. There were a few slightly encrypted ones, and one heavily encrypted local system.
God, I wonder what kind of code she has running out of her computers. wondered Zack.

Cass glanced up from where she was tapping at her datapad to see who had spoken to her, a blonde haired man with an oddly red beard stood nearby also wielding a datapad. Clearly she had just met the tech specialist for Gamma squad and he apparently thought she needed testing on her computer skills from the question he had fired at her. She rolled her eyes at him and returned to her datapad as she answered his question.
"If you really need me to tell you the difference between RAM and ROM then Gamma is neck deep in shit without a paddle." She said drily. "But hey, points for getting the name right at least."

Out of sheer paranoia she searched for his datapad and found it heavily encrypted and she whistled quietly in respect. She thought she could still break it given enough time but it sure would provide a challenge. But then she reckoned if he was a hacker worth his salt he would be checking up on her tech as well and she guessed he was right. Great minds really did think alike.
With a sigh she closed her pad and turned to face him properly as she admitted having the fellow Infiltrator on her side was a smart move whereas alienating him wasn't and Cass tried whenever possible not to be stupid as it usually got you killed.

"So what do I call you?" She asked him.

"My name is Zack, but anything except 'that idiot' will do. And for your information, RAM is Random Access Memory, while ROM stands for Read Only Memory. RAM is reset each time a computer is powered down, while ROM doesn't get erased, it is fairly permanent." said Zack, powering down his datapad.

"I thought we were already neck deep in shit anyways, by the way this place looks, though. Next thing we know, a Dinosaur could come running threw the middle of base camp." joked Zack, noticing that this place actually did remind him of the old 20th century move, Jurassic Park. At this thought, Zack looked around, but stopped when he realized that he was being stupid. Just in case, he decided to send it by his AI Neural Lace.
[ping 97.124.122.153 "AI_broken_summer"]
[Hey BS, what are the chances of dinosaurs being on this planet?] asked Zack.
[1:10,000,000,000,000. It is highly unlikely, although Jurassic park isn't totally impossible.] answered BS, .4 seconds later. She checked and rechecked her math, although allot of the numbers she used where hypothetical, and based off of classified scientific research in DNA, Nanotechnology and cloning.
[Thanks, BS] said Zack, sarcastically.
[Any time, any time.]

Cass finished checking her gear and preparing what she would need for their first mission as she believed very strongly in being prepared. She stowed all of the gear she would need in a backpack she carried including her spare tech equipment and fastened her datapad into a specially designed pouch at her waist. She then stowed the rest of her gear in the storage area and out of habit ensured her bed and general area were spotlessly clean and tidy. A habit she had learned the hard way from too many random inspections she had failed during her years in the British army. She glanced at both Zack and Tori and nodded.
"I'm heading for the meetup point. See you guys there. "

She strode quickly to where the CO had told them to meet and saw that someone was already waiting there, she nodded to him and leaned against the wall to wait for the others. She went to light a cigarette then stopped when she remembered her lighter wasn't working.
"Bugger it." She muttered not quite under her breath.

The hovercopter was loud, but John's music was louder. He was listening to some good ole fashioned metal. He forgot what band but it was a new one. He had in some earbuds modeled after an older type called Full Metal Jackets made by a company called SkullCandy. Pretty comfortable and very loud. He knew he wasn't gonna miss any huge conversation because no one had any flight comms on. Good luck to anyone who tried to talk.

The copter finally descended and landed on a helipad. Everyone got out of the vehicle as a young officer showed up and gave some brief intel. He dismissed everyone and on cue people started taking out their things and moving towards the personal quarters. Then he heard one of the girl on his team say "I don't smoke, but I always carry a lighter. Never know when you're gonna need it. I'm Victoria, by the way...the medic."

What made Jack pay attention to this was the fact that she didn't smoke but she was always prepared. Kind of reminds him of himself. Good thing she's on my squad.

Jack grabbed his large military rucksack and grabbed his rifle from underneath his seat. He personally named his rifle "Scythe." She was a custom Chain Rifle that totally fit the name, quiet and deadly. Just the way he liked his guns. He checked his sidearm. The freaking Block. He had a Colt .50 auto 2111 handgun but he wasn't allowed to bring it. Kind of sad really but at least John had a throwing weapon to accompany his tomahawk.

Jack started to follow the group and kept his distance. They finally reached the building and everyone started to get settled. The girls were talking and then a intelligence guy showed up and started talking to the girl who was smoking. Jack set everything down and decided it was a good time to get to know everyone. He decided to talk to Victoria. He walked up to her and held out his hand saying. " My name is Jericho Reaper. I couldn't help but notice you are a very prepared person. Nice to meet you."

As Zack walked towards the meeting area, he pulled out one of his datapads and started a game of Chess with his AI.
[ping 97.124.122.153 "AI_broken_summer"]
[Care for a game of chess?] asked Zack.
[What difficulty?] asked Broken Summer in return.
[The hardest difficulty. I'll go first.] Answered Zack, venturing a challenge.
[The game is ready.] said BS, knowing that the human couldn't possibly win.
[Pawn to E4] said Zack, waiting for the response move.
[Pawn D6] replied broken summer, .2 seconds later.
[pawn D4] said zack.
[Knight F6] said BS
[I'm bored already. We shall continue later. Save this game as 'KVT-KI-1999'] finished Zack, walking into the meeting area.

When the rest of the squad had left, Black and Captain Valentine began to walk towards TOC Bunker 2, while talking. "So, Shelton Black, we finally meet." Valentine said. "I know your father. He's told me a great deal about you. If even half of it is true, you are very much like himself. A very competent officer he is. He still serves in South Africa, yes?" He smiled a little, adding: "The man never even considered any of my countless offers to join SG. Said he would only risk his life for his country, not for a private army, even if it were SG. Tell me, are you as stubborn as he?" They both chuckled.

"I would hope not, Captain." Black replied with a slight smile. "Stubborness is only good if you truly are right in your decision. But I find SG to be a very good employer, and so I have no complaints. My father has enough of them for both of us, though." They chuckled together once more.

"Good. That is good." Valentine replied, nodding to himself. "Well, I won't keep you. Of course, as an officer you'll be sleeping in Building 9, rather than in 12 where your men are bunking."

"Understood, sir. Thank you." Black said.

He left Valentine, and went to the building where he would be sleeping. It was a timber building, like all, half-buried below the ground to protect it from mortar shells. It was larger, and contained many one-room bunkers with dirt-packed walls. The standard seemed to be lower than that of where the soldiers slept, but with the added benefit of privacy. His own room was small, but contained a military bed, a desk and a locker. A transistor radio of an old model was placed on the desk. Black unpacked his equipment. He proceeded to gear up with little time wasted, and once he was done, he went to the armory building. He checked out enough ammunition for his 6,8 mm chain rifle, to fill up eight clips, and tucked another cardboard box full of bullets into one of the leg pockets of his uniform. He also brought four 40 mm grenades, which he put in one of the pockets of his combat harness, for the underslung grenade launcher. He then proceeded to go to the briefing room in the TOC building. Many of the soldiers had already arrived, and were sitting, spread out in chairs, talking, but Captain Valentine was not yet there.

Black sat down in one of the chairs, placing the rifle on the floor between his leg, the barrel pointing forward. The equipment was heavy, and it felt good sitting down for a while. He took out the canteen from his harness, and drank some water, while waiting for the captain to arrive. He returned the canteen to its place, and went over the rest of his equipment, making sure everything was where it was supposed to be - a knife on the right side of the front of his combat harness. Eight full Chain rifle clips in pockets well within reach. Water, compass modified for Guinam, a map in his leg pocket, covered in plastic to protect it from moisture. As he went on to make sure every piece of equipment that he had found, by experience, to need in the battlefield, was there, Captain Pip Valentine walked into the briefing room, and almost automatically, conversation died out instantly. Someone put out a cigarette on the dirt floor by putting their combat boot on it. Captain Valentine spoke:

"Let me take this opportunity to once more welcome all of you to Base Camp Ozanga." He said. "This was once a military facility known as Ozanga Range, before the last military junta overthrew the Guinamese government. Anyway, now it's an SG facility on lease from the Guinam Ministry of Defense." He looked around. "You all know we're here to fight a war, to bring peace to this planet. But you do not yet know much of our enemies. The Chimurenga - or the Chimps as you will hear some SG soldiers around here call them - are a pro-human, human-only, racist anti-alien insurgency. People call them a guerilla, but I would be more inclined to compare them to a terrorist group. Either way, they are well trained, well-equipped, and very dangerous. Many of their numbers come from the former Guinamese Defense Forces, from the time of the junta. Their racist tendencies remain, and they have made it their personal quest to throw all non-humans off this planet, or annihilate them all. That is why we are here. The Guinamese Defense Army cannot handle this task alone, and so they brought us in as outside help to do it. We are here to protect aliens, and destroy the Chimurenga. The word 'Chimurenga', by the way, comes from the African language of shona. It means 'revolutionary struggle', if you can believe that." Valentine snorted disdainfully at the word.

"Now that you know a bit more about your enemy, let us get to the mission..." He took a deep breath, as if preparing for a long speech. Pressing a button on the desk in front of him, a map appeared on a large, black screen behind him. It was a map of a city. "This is Balca, a city approximately thirty kilometers from here, and beyond the Green Line, the line that marks where safe territory ends, and territory where there's a high risk of being attacked by insurgents, begin. Balca is a notorious shithole, where you will only find humans living - most of them, ferocious supporters of the Chimps. Make no mistake about it, ladies and gentlemen. Balca is right smack in the middle of enemy territory." He looked around, letting the words sink in as he added: "That is exactly where you are going."

Valentine took a short break from the briefing when he lit up a cigarette. After exhaling a cloud of smoke, he looked at the soldiers again.
"Balca is a dangerous city....difficult to navigate too. And as I said, full of Chimps. That's why SG has employed some help. We ran into an Indorian mercenary here on Guinam. Name's the same as mine. Valentine. I don't particularly trust him, but he's knowledgeable of the region, and so he's going to serve as your team's pointman, Lieutenant Black. Oh, and as I said, he's Indorian, so take his oddities with a pinch of salt. He'll make up for it if things get to a fight." He called out towards the open door: "You can come in now."

Valentine strode in, rifle slung over his back and sword in hand. He looked at the humans gathered in front of him.

"So then, I'm working with you lot today." He muttered, while idly running his finger along his blade, drawing a tiny sliver of blood. "Useless humans."

Black watched as the man entered. His only reaction to the man's racist comment was a slight frown. Valentine, however, was not so stoic.
"Oi!" He said, calm in his voice, but a sharp edge to his tone. "You are contracted by SG to provide a service to the company's forces here on Guinam. While you are in our employment, you better watch that mouth of yours, or I'll have you kicked off this planet so fast your ass will light on fire when you pass through the atmosphere! So keep those racist remarks to yourself, Indorian." He shot the man one last glare, before adding: "Now sit down, and let me continue the briefing."

"We're running out of time..." Valentine continued. "So I shall be brief. This man..." He pressed a button on a remote control, and a face of a human appeared on the screen. "...is Belgus Barakos, the right-hand man of Vicarios Garadain, an important leader of the Chimps. We recently tracked his whereabouts via satellite- and signal surveillance, to no other place than Balca. Apparently, he is currently stationed in a Chimp safehouse in the center of Balca City. There'll be a lot of Chimps protecting him, but we can't afford to miss this kind of opportunity. That's why we're going in, hot, fast and with force. The 4th Legion's 24th and 31st Rifle Companies will be deployed to provide perimeter security at the following four locations..." A satellite photo of central Balca City appeared on the screen once more, as he mentioned the four locations, placed in a perfect square around a red X, each marked with a smaller X on the satellite photo. "They will be equipped with two Shark 6, six-wheeled MRAP's each, carrying 20 mm automatic cannons and 40 mm automatic grenade launchers. They will be able to pack quite a punch, and keep any reinforcements out. However, their job is just that. Not to fight the Chimps *inside* the area of operations. That means, we're estimating that your squad will be facing off against up to a hundred and fifty Chimps in there."

Relentlessly, Valentine continued:
"You'll be dropped by hovercopters on the streets two blocks from the safehouse. You might have to fight your way there, but try to remain hidden until you're there, otherwise Barakos might try to escape. Once there, you will subdue him. You will then take him up to the roof, where you will be picked up by a hovercopter. Air support will stand by in the form of eight Reaper attack crafts carrying air-to-ground missiles and 20 mm Vulcan Cannons. They will provide cover when the hovercraft picks you up. Exfiltration route B consists of your team, callsign Alpha Dog 1, being picked up by a merged convoy of Alpha Dog 2, 3, 4 and 5, the rifle companies. This is in a worst case scenario, but should the Reapers and the hovercopter be shot out of the sky, they will pick you up, and shoot their way out of Balca City."

"Now, remember, folks, these might be insurgent sympathizers, but they are not hostiles until they shoot at you. SG still follow the Geneve Convention. That means, we regulate our fire. If I hear about anyone..." His eyes drifted to the Indorian. "...shooting at innocent civilians, I will personally drag him out back and have him shot for warcrimes." The screen turned black. "That's all." He said. "I'll take any questions you have, now."

Valentine sighed. "Very well then, Captain." He said evenly, and moved to stand at the back of the room.

"I shall endeavor not to cause an excessive amount of collateral damage. What are we up against?"

Re: [OOC] Contractors

@Loxley: Mind posting?

Re: [OOC] Contractors

If its not too late, I'd like the open medic position :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

I'm slightly worried that we might be losing people lol, I hope not as this rp looks like it could be a literate and fun roleplay and I find there are few of those around!

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Yeah, I figure they've worked together for a while, so just have him sit there with the rest of the group. That would prolly be the best solution. :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Awesome, so how do you want me to add him in? Would it make sense if he and Black had already met?

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Aaaand he's approved. :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Character submitted for your approval

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Sure! Toss in a character of your choosing if you want to. :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

if we don't get anyone else showing interest I don't mind taking on a second character to complete one of the squads. If it will help?

Re: [OOC] Contractors

I'm gonna make a short post by Valentine, just a line or two, and have him call him in and introduce him as the new pointman. :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Thanks!

Is your character able to be RPed with? And how can I jump in?

Re: [OOC] Contractors

@Zero Reaper; Your carrie's accepted. Welcome aboard. :D

Re: [OOC] Contractors

I'm actually going to have to back out of my reservation. Sorry, y'all, maybe later but right now I have a lot going on and someone else could pop into that spot.

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Okay, edited his equipment and history.

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Yeah, I like. Remember, these aren't just mercenaries. They're a focused, specialized and highly trained PMC. They're not going to let some random Indorian stalk them on their missions, not unless he's traveling WITH them as part of their team.

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Sure, remove the Sniper Rifle.

Also, you're kind of missing the point - he has no cause. He just wants to kill people. He's not actually working with them; he's pretty much just tagging along behind them.

However, if you like, I'll change it.

Re: [OOC] Contractors

After much consideration I've agreed to make an exception and let a non-SG character join the RP. But I need you to change your character sheet a bit. First of all, carrying a sword is fine, but I need to limit your carrying of "long" weapons to one, so you'll have to choose between the Chain Rifle and the sniper rifle. Secondly, the SG doesn't take anyone on who is willing to fight for their cause - as said in the RP:ers wanted thread, they only employ humans, both for equipment, and legal reasons. The exception is the hiring of locals as guides, trackers and pointmen. That is where Michaelis will have to come in, as a pointman, so I need you to add that to the sheet also. Let me know when you're done with that and I'll approve him.

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Uh... can I have my character approved, please?

Re: [OOC] Contractors

I suddenly feel like naming him Sephiroth XD

Re: [OOC] Contractors

Toadsworth; yeah, but don't let that bother you. They haven't posted, and so they have to suit themselves. Check the Gamma and Helix Squad lists on the frotnpage of the RP to see what positions on the team are open. Medic in Gamma Squad is one of them. ;)

@Zero Reaper; Yeah, haha, but I don't think it matters that much. I'll leave it to your discretion if you want to change your character's name though. XD
