Quirks:
James is extremely superstitious, though he tends to act on them surreptitiously. Throwing salt over his shoulder, picking up pennies and keeping all hats off the bed at all time. He also has the tendency to look at himself whenever he passes a mirror. Some might call it vain he merely thinks it’s best to be aware of your appearance. Wouldn't want to walk around a mess for hours, would you?
Fears: Failure, Losing the businesses his father left to him and being a general all around loser.
Skills: James possesses no particular skills like singing or dancing though he modeled when he was in college for extra cash. Has quite a handle on numbers and figures and is an excellent accountant. Remarkably charismatic and warm, something he learned from his father and why people still frequent his restaurant and club.
Romance: James is currently single but is always open to new romantic entanglements and he has a tendency to be attracted to women younger than he is.
Thoughts on the Auditore Family: Our families have been in business for years, just as we have been with the Sarinelli clan. The DeSilvio’s take no sides in any sort of feud, instead preferring to benefit in whatever way we can from it. I do count Mr. Auditore as a friend and as for the rest of the family, some of them work for me and they do an excellent job and the rest aren't really my problem.
Thoughts on the Sarinelli Family: My relationship with the Sarinelli clan is not quite such a close one as with their rivals, though there have been times when our families have worked together towards mutual benefit.
Personality:
James is straightforward, business minded and at times quite serious. He can be intimidating even when he doesn't mean to be due to his large stature and the occasional sarcastic remark. Not to say that he doesn't like to have fun, as a matter of fact that’s what drives him. His family business is all about giving people an experience, an experience that they would come back over and over for. This is when James’ innate charisma and ability to put people at ease comes in handy. He can be full of smiles and handshakes as he walks through his restaurant and greets tables personally, but he can also be quite a demanding boss. Never yelling or blowing up at his employees, James’ instead cultivates a cold and dismissive tone with those that have displeased him. Some might call him an asshole; he’d say that’s just smart business.
History:
James was born the only child of Italian born Francisco DeSilvio and Norwegian Ingrid Clausen, who met while students at university. Deciding to forgo their home countries they made a home in Corolla Hills where they wanted to start a big family and put down roots. Frank DeSilvio was a smart man with a good head for business and with some help from a few friends started his own restaurant where James had his first job as a bus boy when he was eleven. While his father was prone to be loud and boisterous his mother was the complete opposite. Always calm, cool and collected. It is her who James takes after the most, physically and personality wise as well.
Their family was definitely close-knit seeing as how it was only ever the three of them. After years of trying to give James a little sister or brother the DeSilvio’s decided it was best to focus on their one and only son instead of pining for what could have been. Knowing this, James always felt that he had to push himself a little harder, do a little better to make up for the fact that he was all they had. All of their hopes and dreams were riding on his shoulders and the last thing he ever wanted to do was to let them down.
After high school James left Corolla Hills and went away to attend college on the east coast. Determined to not have to ask his parents for anything he put himself through school by taking out massive loans, getting grants, odd jobs and doing the occasional modeling job. After graduating with a degree in both business and finance, James took a job in New York City at a prestigious insurance company. Even though he was doing what he went to school for he was thoroughly unsatisfied, finding his job to be boring and mundane and the people he worked with…even more so. He was finding that he was missing home and most of all missing his family.
After a series of failed relationships and setbacks in his career James decided he would come back to Corolla Hills and nurse his wounds. It was soon after he arrived home that his father passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack. Suddenly what had once been a vacation from the real world had suddenly turned into James becoming the owner of two businesses in a town that he hadn't visited in over five years. Not to mention caring for his grieving mother and trying to wrap his mind around the fact that his father was gone forever.
Knowing that his father had always wanted him to take over James stepped into his father’s role seamlessly. Though he wasn't as warm or forgiving he was still a generally decent person to work for. James knows that DeSilvio’s and Omega are his father’s legacy and he’d do anything to keep them viable. Currently he’s trying to inject a bit of youth into the venues. It was time to step into the 21st century and James would be the one to lead the way
