Introduction
High on a mountain top lies the dark crumbling ruins of Castle Nekkrutal. Within the twisted hallways and dark rooms of unspeakable evils is a chamber where the Lich Lord sits atop his Throne of Bones. The blue fires of the torches reflect off the black steel eyeplate which covers Nekkrutal’s left face. Inside the socket a gem containing the souls of hundreds he has killed swirls with the lamentations and wails those cursed to reside within. One hand drums rotting gray fingers on the skull of an unfortunate soul who probably didn’t forsee his fate becoming a decoration for a chair arm. As he strokes his long mottled beard the doors to this chamber burst open with the help of two giant steel golems made of re-animated plate armor. Wearing robes of black and purple with green runes etched onto them strides a muscular figure of an orc who kneels before Nekkrutal and removes the hood from his head revealing a long gray ponytail and tusks that jut from his lower lip. Zomboro the Corpse Harvester speaks…
-Zomboro: Master, I have returned. As requested I have finished with your “project” it’s currently eating in the cellar of the fortress.
(Nekkrutal folds his hands together)
-Nekkrutal: Excellent Zomboro, but this is not the only issue you wish to bring me is it?
(Zomboro’s brow furrows)
-Zomboro: No my lord, I wish to send a battalion out to the nearest graveyard and fill our ranks. Most of our forces are currently in battle across the continent, which leaves our castle very defenseless at the moment.
-Nekkrutal: Do not worry my apprentice, I have already sent Acererak out to the nearby town with his minions to weaken their numbers. In fact why don’t we have him tell us himself?
The gem in Nekkrutal’s eye socket glows a deep blue and next to Zomboro a swirl of blue and black smoke begins to materialize into a column, bones begin assimilating out of the column and forming a spine, rib cage, skull and four arms. Acererak the Soulless One fully materialized turns and bows to Nekkrutal.
-Acererak: My lord I bring troubling news. Your captain of the death knights Jarek Gravesin has betrayed you. Apparently when he was sent out to the nearby town of Velis Vale he encountered his wife Scarlet Gravesin and somehow it triggered his emotions back into his undead form. He now plans to protect the town and lead a group of heroes to this castle!
Zomboro and Acererak are silent and worried but the sudden sinister laughter of Nekkrutal echoes off the chamber walls and makes both apprentices take a few steps of caution back.
-Nekkrutal: Troubling news? Heh heh heh no Acererak I purposely sent Jarek to the Vale with every intention that his emotions would return and he would rebel against me. For you see he has become an unwitting ruse to draw what powerful warriors they can offer right into my domain and once they have been eliminated the town of Velis Vale will be ours for the taking, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Now those of you who join in this game are heroes gathered by the town of Velis Vale to be lead by Jarek Gravesin into the Castle of the Dead. Where you will face all the atrocities and horrors Nekkrutal has gained control over. Prepare yourselves and be ready to face death…

Scarlet took in a sharp breath as she awoke, jerking up from her sleep. Not knowing she was on the edge, she slipped from the sheets and crashed to the floor, smacking her head on the nightstand. Holding her head she laid still for a moment, gaining her bearings. She realized quickly that it was only a dream and she was back inside her bedroom, back in Velis Vale, away from that horrible place. She turned her body to sit back up and rested her back against the side of the bed, taking in a deep, stressful sigh and forcing it back out, cold air lingering before fading away from her mouth. She rubbed her temples, something she often did when she was stressed and called out softly for Rarr. The great werewolf came swiftly and listened on the outside of the door.
“Tea, please.” She said almost in a whisper, not knowing if Jarek was still asleep. She could hear his form leave to door for the kitchen, and for a moment, Scarlet sat quietly, rubbing her temples and trying to force the nightmare away into the deepest darkest corners of her mind.

If they were dreams, dear, they’d be pleasant. I’d wake up with a smile on my face...and not a throbbing in my head ...and not on the floor. Her voice was quiet and contemplative as she finished her tea and laid the cup back on the tray Rarr still held. She moved up from the bed and into her closet, drifting past Jarek as she went. The rustle of garb could be heard and a moment later she stepped from the doors, dressed in her daily attire; A Velis Vale standard black dress with the symbol of an icy wolf embroidered on the back, rested quietly underneath a thick black cloak that hid the rest of her figure, only allowing her hands and face to be seen. She shed the facade as well, leaving her lich form standing in place of the beautiful creature that walked in a moment ago. She turned her attention away from the room, meaning to leave it and make her way to the outside when the mirror hanging on the wall caught her attention. She stopped in half step and turned her head to the side, to better see the skeleton face staring back at her. A small piece of decayed flesh hung from her forehead and she hesitantly reached up her skeletal hand. She sighed and pulled the flesh from the bone, looking down to stare at it. The stress seemed to be taking more than just a mental toll...
She held the piece of skin in her hand, turned from the mirror and glided slowly across the floor and down the hall. Perhaps this morning would have been better had she stayed in bed.

“M’Lady! M’Lady!” It was Trevor, the head guard of the Vale.
She walked out and met him halfway, making him take a breath before revealing the news to her.
“M’Lady, more have come seeking refuge…One of them asked for you by name.” Trevor said, taking in a few breaths as he spoke.
Then I’ll have to go and meet them. Trevor was about to turn and hustle back down the hill. Theres no need to rush! We’ll take our time. Besides, I need a report from you on how the reinforcement to the Vale are coming along. Scarlet flashed a toothy smile and sipped her tea while she drifted through the dusting of snow with Trevor, making her way down to the town gates.
"He will be fine," she thought to herself. "I can't help him this time...he'll come back with weapon in hand...and he'll be safe..."

“M’Lady, with all due respect, stay true to yourself. If they can’t accept that, then they are the ones who are wrong.” His words trailed off to her, even though he was right. She nodded I thanks to him as he walked in.
‘ABOMINATION!” Someone screamed and Scarlet leap into action, within seconds she ran around the building to the front, only to see that Kyria walked along with Simi, and one of the brown cloaked men run in. She sighed in relief, thanking the Reaper that it wasn’t truly an abomination. She gave a soft half smile to Kyria and nodded to little Simi.
Not causing trouble I Hope? She already knew the answer and simply gave a slight raised eyebrow at her, even though half her face was bone.

Simi made a noise, and Kyria looked down at her. She was staring intently at something. The blood elf followed the demons gaze to see Xiamara, the succubus belonging to Kyria's friend, Talon, who was walking just behind the succubus. Kyria smiled at her roommate as he and his demon approached. "What's with all the holy people?" He asked, not really directing the question at either Kyria or Scarlet, specifically.

I hope you don’t mind, I don’t like secrets here in the Vale, the world is chaotic enough as it is without secrets to tear down my walls. Take a seat, relax and speak.
The lich who stood before them was not like any other they had encountered. She was polite, reserved and even though hideous looking, she had an air of beauty about her. Perhaps it was her voice, even though strained, very raspy with five hundered years of decay. Or maybe the way she carried herself, either way, she was much more human in the way she presented herself. The half skull gave a soft smile as she looked around the room, studying the various faces, some of fear, some of curiosity and some of awe. She rested her arms to hold her shadowy knee, the whisps of darkness crawling through her fingers, both flesh and bone, like smoke.

She scanned the crowd once more, noting the monks expressions; who looked fearful, who was accepting, who was impassive. She shifted a bit towards Talon. "Diplomacy at work. This should be interesting." she whispered, shaking her head almost imperceptively.

Jarek finally has the shadowy figure cornered. After ten minutes of running from rooftops and ducking into alleyways, the figure backs up and jumps down an old well that is near a rundown stable. Jarek quickly dismounts his deathcharger and walks over to the well. Looking down into the darkness he can just make out the person moving out of the light. Jarek grunts and vaults down into the well, with a mighty crash he lands at the bottom and shakily gets to his feet. The bottom of the well is a giant underground room where only Jarek's glowing eyes emminate the darkness. He turns and sees that the figure is moving towards him and as it nears, the sunlight from above ground illumenates the dark face and reveals....

A woman stepped forth, " My lady, I am Lilliana High Priestess of the nearby town of Vallion. My people have recieved your message of aid and have sent myself and these monks from the Temple of Light. We have considered your offer to end this plague and have come up with a way to assist you and your town. These monks have trained all of their lives in the magical arts of protection, they can summon and maintain a very powerful shield of undead warding around this town. If you are willing to be the first to assault Nekkrutal then we are willing to protect your town. While their doing that, I would like to offer my assistance in the attack itself, my magic in the holy arts is quite powerful and would be well-used against Nekkrutal's forces." Lilliana stepped back and stood next to her group of monks.
Very Well. Scarlet said curtly. You are welcome to stay here, you and your monks, However. She stopped and let her gaze linger around the room, taking her left eye out of the socket to clean it and returning it to its place. Some faces seems intrigued, others turned away, trying vey hard not to make a scene as she watched them all. However She continued. If you stay in my town, you will treat its people as they should be, with dignity and respect. The same will be shown to you in return. You may be afraid of what you see here, but that is no reason to call what you see an ‘Abomination.’ One of the monks in the crowd lowered his head to hide his embarrassment beneath his hood. The Vale welcomes you, She only asks that you treat others as you would like to be treated. Scarlet looked around the room, her eyes searching for anyone who’d dare disobey her. She saw none, these were holy men and woman, and what she asked happened to be one of their God’s commandments, not just a moral code. Satisfied, Scarlet stood up and bowed her head, extending her arms out towards the doors.
Make yourselves at home.

At the monks outburst, she dropped Talons hand, and stood up straight, pinpointing, and recognizing, the monk in question. Not able to help herself, she says, "'Your kind'? I thought monks were supposed to be non-judgemental or something." She stepped towards Scarlet, Simi right next to her. "Just in case any of you get any crazy notions here, let me explain something to you. Scarlet is NOTHING like Nekkrutal. Lich, yes. Fiend? How can you enter the Vale, see the acceptance," she indicates herself and Talon, and the demons, "of us so called 'abominations' by even the mages and paladins here, and think she is anything like Nekkrutal? There is a peace here in the Vale that seems to be lacking in the rest of the world. While we may be different from you in appearance, or choice of magics, our cause is the same. We, the 'fooled townspeople' will follow Scarlet to the ends of the world, not because we are fooled by her. But because we trust her. End of story." She looked directly at the angry monk. "You come into our town, insult US with no thought of character, just sight, and you say 'our kind' has treated you unfairly? I think just the fact that you insulted my demon and I did nothing but accept your presence in the Vale without anger should prove how fair we are, here."
She was lumping herself and Talon in with Scarlet in regards to the 'your kind' remark because, while they were not lich, they were also frowned upon and feared in general by most people. Her rant ended, she stepped back against the stage next to Talon.

Be that as it may...Newman was it? Call me what you will, compare me to Nekkrutal. I welcome this, for you will soon be shown that you are in the wrong here. My actions have spoken louder than any words ever could.
Scarlet pulled Lilliana to the side, whispering so only she, Kyria and Talon could hear.
Listen very carefully Lilliana, your ‘dogs’ can bark at me all they please and accuse me up and down until their faces turn blue. The second I hear they have turned their accusations towards my people, the very SECOND they dare to defy my hospitality, you, All of you, will be sent from here and back from whence you came. The safety and well being of the citizens of Velis Vale is all I care about in this ‘un’life. Do not make me raise my hand against you and yours. Have I made myself clear?
Lilliana’s eyes were hard and in agreement with her and she waved her off as her and her monks turned to leave.
There are no rooms left in the inn, you will stay at my manor. If you cannot show respect to me, at least treat my house with some decency, all of my décor is old and well kept, and I expect it to remain that way. Follow the path up the hill, my servants will show you your rooms.

Then she turns to Talon. "Yeah, a drink sounds good, provided Scarlet doesn't need anything else." She waits for Scarlets reply before taking Talons arm. She looks sharply at Xiamara as she whips the floor, and then at Simi as he sticks his tongue out at her. She sighs, rolls her eyes, and lets out a small chuckle. "So where have you been, anyways? You know I hate sleeping in an empty house." She teased her roommate.

“Don’t let what that idiot said get to you. He doesn’t know what hes talking about. You are NOTHING like Nekkrutal.” Trevor said, sending the point home.
I know, Trevor. Thank you. Was all she could manage to say, deep down she was hurt by those words and every once and a while they would ring in her skull.
“Do you want me to keep an eye on them?" Trevor finally asked after a bit of awkward silence.
No, that wont be necessary. I have a feeling Lilliana will keep them in line. Besides, I have eyes all over the Vale, if something should go wrong I’ll know of it. She gave a slight tap on her forehead, indicating her connection with the werewolves that kept watch over the town. Trevor nodded and began to go over the new wall idea as he pulled a peice of paper and a quill from his longcoat. Scarlet raised her hand in protest.
No wall’s Trevor.
“But M’Lady, walls will keep the undead out.
And they can also keep them in. If there were walls around the Vale, there would be nowhere for anyone to escape should we become overrun. We’d all be trapped inside our protective…wall.
Trevor nodded and scratched the idea from the paper.
Have you heard anything from the Driders?
“Yes M’lady. They agree with you and have given us permission to seek refuge in their wood should the Vale fall under attack. They have also been generous enough to offer their aid in just such an attack.” Trevor remarked, seemingly quite pleased with the result.
That’s excellent news! I’ll have to send an invitation to Arcanoxx for tea. Have you heard back from any of the other towns I sent Ravens to?
“None have come back M’Lady, but I’ll let you know the moment one does, if they don’t return to you first.”
Very well. Is that all?
“For now. We are trying to accommodate all the refugees that have been coming to the gates.”
If you cannot find places for them, send them to me. I’ll see to it that they have a roof over their head.
“Yes M’Lady.” He rose, bowed slightly to her and turned to leave. He closed the doors to the hall and the loud sound rang out in the now empty hall. Scarlet let out a painful sigh and sat quietly for a moment, the ringing of the monks words coming back. She called out into the darkness, even though she knew Jarek couldn’t hear her.
I hope you come home soon, Dear…

Nice, but I'll give you a little hint and a warning. Dont bring in to many NPC's you cant account for. You might bring them in and play around with them, but They have to have meaning to the underlining plot. Realize now that you have a few people you have to account for when the town battle starts. Talon, Lilliana, Gnasher, Trevor and maybe Jarek (depending on if you want him to come back in time). Now your bringing Deadwood into the mix. I have no problem with that, but you are new to this and I dont want 1) for you to be overwhelmed and 2) for NPC's to get left out in vital plots of story (such as a grand scale battle). Just remember you have to keep track of them and what their doing. Caedis can control Talon at some points and I can control Trevor and possibly Lilliana, and dont let us get into the habit of fully taking control over them because you have to many NPC's out already.
<3 And please dont take this as an Insult, or take it personally. I've been doing this a long time and seen alot of rp's fail because NPC's were left out, which affected vital gameplay and plot points. One step at time :)

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead
Yeah, Timeframe is determined by players (mostly) and its your players that actually move the days along. Not to mention the fact that players will go on and on for a few pages of posts with just dialouge back and forth. It might seem confusing, but thats why you have to read every post, even if it doesnt pertain to your characters.
It is alot to take in, but you'll get the hang of it eventually :)
