Besige a Lich's fortress of the dead

972 readers have visited (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead since Lich Lord Nekkrutal created it.

Introduction

(Prologue)

High on a mountain top lies the dark crumbling ruins of Castle Nekkrutal. Within the twisted hallways and dark rooms of unspeakable evils is a chamber where the Lich Lord sits atop his Throne of Bones. The blue fires of the torches reflect off the black steel eyeplate which covers Nekkrutal’s left face. Inside the socket a gem containing the souls of hundreds he has killed swirls with the lamentations and wails those cursed to reside within. One hand drums rotting gray fingers on the skull of an unfortunate soul who probably didn’t forsee his fate becoming a decoration for a chair arm. As he strokes his long mottled beard the doors to this chamber burst open with the help of two giant steel golems made of re-animated plate armor. Wearing robes of black and purple with green runes etched onto them strides a muscular figure of an orc who kneels before Nekkrutal and removes the hood from his head revealing a long gray ponytail and tusks that jut from his lower lip. Zomboro the Corpse Harvester speaks…

-Zomboro: Master, I have returned. As requested I have finished with your “project” it’s currently eating in the cellar of the fortress.

(Nekkrutal folds his hands together)
-Nekkrutal: Excellent Zomboro, but this is not the only issue you wish to bring me is it?

(Zomboro’s brow furrows)
-Zomboro: No my lord, I wish to send a battalion out to the nearest graveyard and fill our ranks. Most of our forces are currently in battle across the continent, which leaves our castle very defenseless at the moment.

-Nekkrutal: Do not worry my apprentice, I have already sent Acererak out to the nearby town with his minions to weaken their numbers. In fact why don’t we have him tell us himself?
The gem in Nekkrutal’s eye socket glows a deep blue and next to Zomboro a swirl of blue and black smoke begins to materialize into a column, bones begin assimilating out of the column and forming a spine, rib cage, skull and four arms. Acererak the Soulless One fully materialized turns and bows to Nekkrutal.

-Acererak: My lord I bring troubling news. Your captain of the death knights Jarek Gravesin has betrayed you. Apparently when he was sent out to the nearby town of Velis Vale he encountered his wife Scarlet Gravesin and somehow it triggered his emotions back into his undead form. He now plans to protect the town and lead a group of heroes to this castle!

Zomboro and Acererak are silent and worried but the sudden sinister laughter of Nekkrutal echoes off the chamber walls and makes both apprentices take a few steps of caution back.

-Nekkrutal: Troubling news? Heh heh heh no Acererak I purposely sent Jarek to the Vale with every intention that his emotions would return and he would rebel against me. For you see he has become an unwitting ruse to draw what powerful warriors they can offer right into my domain and once they have been eliminated the town of Velis Vale will be ours for the taking, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Now those of you who join in this game are heroes gathered by the town of Velis Vale to be lead by Jarek Gravesin into the Castle of the Dead. Where you will face all the atrocities and horrors Nekkrutal has gained control over. Prepare yourselves and be ready to face death…

Toggle Rules

I am new to this online version of text RP, so I am going to set-up some basic rules to follow just bear with me and let’s have fun =)

1- NO GOD-MODDING!!!

2- I love R-rated material and encourage that in my RP’s, just try not to go waaaay overboard with it ;D

3-Since I am new to this, if you make a character then base it off a class from WoW, NO multiple characters of the same class please if someone is a druid don’t be a druid.

4- NO DEATH KNIGHTS!!! XD

5- Combat System is as follows, when entering a fight describe 3 attacks for each attack you get a 1,2 or 3 to assign to it for how powerful the attack being dealt is. For example, “ The warrior unsheathes his Longsword and with a roar charges across the battlefield raising it above his head as he gets up to the Mage bringing it in a powerful cleave from head to toe(3). As the sword reaches the bottom of it’s arc, the warrior jabs a gauntleted punch into the mage’s jaw(1). After the punch thewarrior grips the hilt with both hands and slashes across the mage’s chest(2).”

- The Mage will counter with, “ Observing the warrior’s charge, the mage focuses on a fire chant which begins to from a massive ball of searing flame between his palms, as the warrior gets within a few feet the mage hurls the fireball at the warrior(3). With the warrior stumbling back from the flames the Mage chants an encantation of lightning magic and with a whip of his fingers a barrage of thunderbolts from his fingertips leap forward and shock the warrior’s face(1), using the spell to disorient the mage steps forward with his staff and trips the warrior to his back with a quick tripping motion(2).”

- Now as the GM I will designate the result, Because the mage had time to anticipate the warrior’s attack he hits with the fireball (mage 3 points), Because the warrior is doing a quick punch over the mage’s chanting and aiming the warrior wins (warrior 1 point). Now because the warrior is NOT dazed by the thunder spell tripping him wouldn’t work as well so the warrior gets his slice on the mage’s cloth wearing stomach (warrior 2 points). So now we have a tie with both the warrior and mage having 3 points. Now because the warrior is clad in metal armor the searing pain of fire is not as bad, granted the fire will heat up the armor but it’s still not fire on skin. However the mage took a decent swipe of a 2-handed long sword across his gut, so the warrior is awarded an additional point, warrior wins with 4 points.

6- Magic Users, basically going of the WoW classes if your being a druid then stick with animal/nature magic. If your using a Shaman base your magic off the four elements. Just stick with their specific type of magic and anything is up for grabs during the session =).

Laughter, unending, empty laughter. A huge skull with empty sockets opened and closed its jaw as it laughed. Scarlet couldn’t move, her arms and legs wouldn’t obey her commands and a simple task like getting up from a flat surface was the hardest thing she had ever done. The Skull kept laughing as an image of Jarek faded into sight. He was stabbed through the chest with his own runesword and the life was slowly draining away from him. She screamed for him, but no sound escaped her slowly decaying lips. The skull came closer to her, blocking her view of Jarek and opened its great jaw, draining Scarlet of life. The decaying process quickened and the last thing she saw was her body turning to dust and Jareks lifeless corpse in those empty eyes
Scarlet took in a sharp breath as she awoke, jerking up from her sleep. Not knowing she was on the edge, she slipped from the sheets and crashed to the floor, smacking her head on the nightstand. Holding her head she laid still for a moment, gaining her bearings. She realized quickly that it was only a dream and she was back inside her bedroom, back in Velis Vale, away from that horrible place. She turned her body to sit back up and rested her back against the side of the bed, taking in a deep, stressful sigh and forcing it back out, cold air lingering before fading away from her mouth. She rubbed her temples, something she often did when she was stressed and called out softly for Rarr. The great werewolf came swiftly and listened on the outside of the door.
“Tea, please.” She said almost in a whisper, not knowing if Jarek was still asleep. She could hear his form leave to door for the kitchen, and for a moment, Scarlet sat quietly, rubbing her temples and trying to force the nightmare away into the deepest darkest corners of her mind.

Jarek's eyelids opened and bright blue light with wisps of blue smoke escaped his gaze as he sat up and propped his back against the headboard. His dreams were blurry shades of gray with images that were familiar too him but just out of reach. He turned his head and looked at Scarlet his forgotten wife as she was leaning forward he placed a cool hand on her bare shoulder and rubbed it, his wedding ring made out of ebony and sapphire glinted off the morning sunlight that entered through the window behind them. " Your dreams trouble you to much my love, remember them to be dreams as you enter them and they will cease to cause you pain." Jarek leans over and kisses her neck before climbing out of bed. He moves over to the corner of the room where on a chair his black-plate mail armor rests. As he begins to put on each piece he watches Scarlet through his unnatural eyes which can no longer express emotion but when he gazes upon her a smile touches the corner of his mouth. Just as he finishes putting on his plate gaunlets a knock on the bedroom door which can only be Rarr, moves Jarek to open it and let the servant werewolf inside with their morning tea.

Ah, so he was awake. His cool hand came to rest on her shoulder, which brought comfort to her and his words were all to cold, yet true. “" Your dreams trouble you to much my love, remember them to be dreams as you enter them and they will cease to cause you pain." She smiled very softly as she felt his kiss on her neck and watched him move from the bed to don his armor. As she watched him, his image faded in and out of what she had seen in the nightmare and she shook her head, trying to get rid of the vision. A knock at the door jarred her thoughts as Rarr entered, indeed carrying tea. He held it out for her and she took it with grateful hands, cupping the mug close and taking gulps of the liquid. She remembered the taste of black tea, and the aromas were just like those she savoured oh so many decades ago. Even though the tea was steaming, and obviously hot, she could never be burned by it. She could feel its warmth, but never would she feel pain of burning, or of cold. Her mind trailed off to the tasks set for today and her red eyes stared off into the liquid in the cup.
If they were dreams, dear, they’d be pleasant. I’d wake up with a smile on my face...and not a throbbing in my head ...and not on the floor. Her voice was quiet and contemplative as she finished her tea and laid the cup back on the tray Rarr still held. She moved up from the bed and into her closet, drifting past Jarek as she went. The rustle of garb could be heard and a moment later she stepped from the doors, dressed in her daily attire; A Velis Vale standard black dress with the symbol of an icy wolf embroidered on the back, rested quietly underneath a thick black cloak that hid the rest of her figure, only allowing her hands and face to be seen. She shed the facade as well, leaving her lich form standing in place of the beautiful creature that walked in a moment ago. She turned her attention away from the room, meaning to leave it and make her way to the outside when the mirror hanging on the wall caught her attention. She stopped in half step and turned her head to the side, to better see the skeleton face staring back at her. A small piece of decayed flesh hung from her forehead and she hesitantly reached up her skeletal hand. She sighed and pulled the flesh from the bone, looking down to stare at it. The stress seemed to be taking more than just a mental toll...
She held the piece of skin in her hand, turned from the mirror and glided slowly across the floor and down the hall. Perhaps this morning would have been better had she stayed in bed.

As her beautiful figure passed him and entered her wardrobe, Jarek turned his thoughts away from passion and onto more serious matters. Scarlet had called a meeting for the heroes tasked to join them on their attempt to besiege Nekkrutal's castle. That errand was not to start until later in the day, for now Jarek wished to travel south of the Vale to the town of Sacred, where the Lich Lord Nekkrutal first came to power. Evidence of this still lingers by way of a terrible enchantment that causes undead creatures to permenatley spawn from the grounds of Sacred. It is in this never-ending town of reanimation that word of a powerful runed weapon lies. The fabled two-handed axe, Shadowcleaver. From what knowledge Jarek has gathered the axe of legend was once wielded by a powerful necromancer and was one of the first runed weapons ever forged. If he left now to pursue this axe he could return in time to meet with Scarlet and the rest of the heroes. As Scarlet finishes dressing and re-enters the room in her true undead form he brings himself back to reality and watches as she gazes into the mirror. As she holds the piece of rotting flesh in her hands, Jarek walks over behind her plate boots thundering beneath him and wraps his arms around her. Using one hand he closes her hand that holds the piece of flesh and then clasps her hands in his. Looking over her shoulder they both stare into the mirror, her half-skeleton rotting visage with his unnaturally pale skin and glowing blue eyes...the visual of them in this form causes Jarek to furrow his brow and wonder at what cost does love and sacrifice finally end? He says nothing but holds her tight for a moment and then releases her, heading downstairs and throught the front door of her mansion. The townspeople hold up hands of greeting and speak good mornings to the passing death knight, but he barely focuses on anything else. His purpose clear, the figure in black armor strides across the town and as he reaches it's southern gates he stops. Holding his rune-axe in front of him, he begins chanting and black/purple smoke wafts from the runes on the blade and forms into the shape of a DeathCharger, the steed of all Death Knights. Jarek mounts onto Tombstone and togeather they move with haste to the town of Sacred, to aquire the weapon of myth...the one that can kill a lich without destroying their phalecary.

(Meanwhile...)
As Jarek leaves to pursue ShadowCleaver a piece of parchment in his armor escapes and falls silently, gliding to the ground in his wake...

Before Scarlet leaves behind the mirrored face of her corpse, she feels Jareks arms wrap around her. For a moment, if only a moment, she is content. She stares into the mirror with him and she watches his eyes, searching for something. He then leaves without a word and again she is left to see the face of death staring back at her. With a wave of her hand, Rarr takes the mirror down from the wall and cradles it under his arm. She wouldn’t have even seen the parchment on the floor had Rarr not picked it up and handed it to her, motioning after Jarek with his eyes. A puzzled look crosses her as her fingers fiddle with the paper and turn it until the scroll written upon it is right side up. As she reads, Rarr exits with the tray and the mirror, knowing she’ll probably need another pitcher to last for the day. He vaults down the stairs and opens a hidden wall under the stairs where a room full of mirrors is hiding. He places the mirror with its brethren and closes the locking mechanism, sealing them back into darkness.

The parchment reads, " ...nside the city of Sacred, where the lich Nekkrutal rose to power is a weapon engraved with runes of the Ice Magi and forged with the soul of a holy Templar that became tainted to evil. it is said that beacuse of this rare soul the blade of the rune-axe ShadowCleave has the power to destroy a lich without the finding of a lich's phalecary. A warning to those who enter Sacred, the stain of Nekkrutal's rise to power has caused a portal to an unknown dimension where the dead inhabit. Scarlet read the parchment and a grave look plastered her face. She gave a very heavy sigh and let it slip from her fingers. He would be fine. He had to be. For her sake. Like a ghost she drifted out of the room and closed the door behind her. She made her way down the stairs and towards the main door, only to be greeted by Rarr once again, a cup of fresh hot tea in his claws. She smiled and took it from him ruffling the fur atop his head and under his chin in her gratitude for taking such good care of her and sent him on his way. It would be safe to say Scarlet would have lost her sanity long ago if not for her strange servant. Normally, they are mindless, as they are dead as well. Rarr was different. A good different and she was very glad of it. Without Jarek here, she felt empty and alone. In the back of her mind the thought crossed of going to help him…or to save him. That thought was quickly distinguished once Rarr opened the door to the outside, where snow began to gently fall and a middle aged man ran up the hill towards the Manor.
“M’Lady! M’Lady!” It was Trevor, the head guard of the Vale.
She walked out and met him halfway, making him take a breath before revealing the news to her.
“M’Lady, more have come seeking refuge…One of them asked for you by name.” Trevor said, taking in a few breaths as he spoke.
Then I’ll have to go and meet them. Trevor was about to turn and hustle back down the hill. Theres no need to rush! We’ll take our time. Besides, I need a report from you on how the reinforcement to the Vale are coming along. Scarlet flashed a toothy smile and sipped her tea while she drifted through the dusting of snow with Trevor, making her way down to the town gates.

"He will be fine," she thought to herself. "I can't help him this time...he'll come back with weapon in hand...and he'll be safe..."

The town of Sacred, once a blooming city where the greatest holy priests were taught. Now it is an abomination upon the land, mindless undead shamble and slouch out of the ground and into the land, staggering forawrd to find fresh victims to feast upon. Jarek ontop of Tombstone, stares down at this his glowing mist eyes taking in the sight of what used to be the home of him and his long lost brother Griever. What became of him and was he still alive? Jarek did not know but it seems Fate decided to bring him back here, hopefully not just to wonder about his missing older brother. Jarek swishes the reins and they ride downward and past the many zombies and skeletons that creep out of the abandoned city. Jarek new he had a good chance of recovering the weapon beacuse mindless undead pay no attention to other undead unless commanded to do so. With this fortunate consequence on his side Jarek charges forward past destroyed buildings and ruined homes. Deeper into the plagued city he travels until he reaches the center of town. Unfortunatley the notes he reviewed on the subject of where in town the weapon itself was, were lacking. As he clomped tombstone in a circle around the town's bussiness area the sound of quick footsteps above him running on rooftops alerts his attention upwards to a dark figure that leaps from one rooftop to another and then vanishes behind a building. "Wait!! Do you know this town!!?" Jarek whips the reins and Tombstone is off and galloping towards what could be assistance...or danger.

Kyria had been wandering about Velis Vale, her demon, Simi, by her side, when she saw a bunch of people entering the town. She recognised none of them, but she heard one of them mention Scarlet's name. Curious, she milled about, pretending to be preoccupied with things around her while trying to listen to the conversations of these people, wondering what they wanted with Scarlet.

The people Kyria was watching were dressed in plain brwon robes with hoods over their faces. The leader of them removed her hood to reveal long beautiful blonde hair that cascaded down to her waist. The priestess Lilliana was quite beautiful and very well known for her abilities in the magicall arts of healing and prayer. She motioned for her fellow monks to follow her into the town hall where she wished to meet with Scarlet and disscuss the defenses of the Vale. One of the monks turned his head slightly and his eyes grew wide at the sight of the demon at Kyria's side, " ABOMINATION!" he quickly turned away and followed his brother in haste to the town hall.

As Trevor began to explain the plans for the town, they approached the town hall, where the people were supposed to be meeting with her. Thoughts trailed off into shifting her forms…and Trevor must have been reading her mind.
“M’Lady, with all due respect, stay true to yourself. If they can’t accept that, then they are the ones who are wrong.” His words trailed off to her, even though he was right. She nodded I thanks to him as he walked in.
‘ABOMINATION!” Someone screamed and Scarlet leap into action, within seconds she ran around the building to the front, only to see that Kyria walked along with Simi, and one of the brown cloaked men run in. She sighed in relief, thanking the Reaper that it wasn’t truly an abomination. She gave a soft half smile to Kyria and nodded to little Simi.
Not causing trouble I Hope? She already knew the answer and simply gave a slight raised eyebrow at her, even though half her face was bone.

Kyria looked at the man retreating, and shook her head. Then she caught Scarlet's gaze, and returned her smile. Making her way over, she shrugged. "Monks, eh?" Her smile turned a bit sheepish, then her expression went serious. "What do they want, anyways?" She was sure it wasn't to make friends with the "abominations' that tended to wander about wherever Kyria and her friends ended up.

Simi made a noise, and Kyria looked down at her. She was staring intently at something. The blood elf followed the demons gaze to see Xiamara, the succubus belonging to Kyria's friend, Talon, who was walking just behind the succubus. Kyria smiled at her roommate as he and his demon approached. "What's with all the holy people?" He asked, not really directing the question at either Kyria or Scarlet, specifically.

“I’m not quite sure as of yet…but you and Talon are more than welcome to come find out with me. Young minds like yours should do well to see diplomacy at work! Scarlet grinned and turned to motion for the entrance. She hated leaving anyone out of the grand scheme of things, even if most of the citizens of the Vale seemed ignorant to the world and its going’s on. She walked in herself and left the door to the town hall open, in case more curious bystanders wanted to listen in. She moved to the stage and sat upon it, the whispy trails of her shadowy cloak gathering where her legs would’ave been seen.
I hope you don’t mind, I don’t like secrets here in the Vale, the world is chaotic enough as it is without secrets to tear down my walls. Take a seat, relax and speak.
The lich who stood before them was not like any other they had encountered. She was polite, reserved and even though hideous looking, she had an air of beauty about her. Perhaps it was her voice, even though strained, very raspy with five hundered years of decay. Or maybe the way she carried herself, either way, she was much more human in the way she presented herself. The half skull gave a soft smile as she looked around the room, studying the various faces, some of fear, some of curiosity and some of awe. She rested her arms to hold her shadowy knee, the whisps of darkness crawling through her fingers, both flesh and bone, like smoke.

Kyria looked at Talon, then moved to follow Scarlet, smiling as hear Talon follow as well. She stood leaning against the edge of the stage, not immediately next to Scarlet, but close enough to make her presence known, especially after Scarlet's comments of "no secrets in the Vale". Simi was on her left, Talon on her right, Xiamara next to him.

She scanned the crowd once more, noting the monks expressions; who looked fearful, who was accepting, who was impassive. She shifted a bit towards Talon. "Diplomacy at work. This should be interesting." she whispered, shaking her head almost imperceptively.

Lilliana the priestess steps forward, " My lady, I am Lilliana High Priestess of the nearby town of Vallion. My people have recieved your message of aid and have sent myself and these monks from the Temple of Light. We have considered your offer to end this plague and have come up with a way to assist you and your town. These monks have trained all of their lives in the magical arts of protection, they can summon and maintain a very powerful shield of undead warding around this town. If you are willing to be the first to assault Nekkrutal then we are willing to protect your town. While their doing that, I would like to offer my assistance in the attack itself, my magic in the holy arts is quite powerful and would be well-used against Nekkrutal's forces." Lilliana steps back and stands next to her group of monks.

Jarek finally has the shadowy figure cornered. After ten minutes of running from rooftops and ducking into alleyways, the figure backs up and jumps down an old well that is near a rundown stable. Jarek quickly dismounts his deathcharger and walks over to the well. Looking down into the darkness he can just make out the person moving out of the light. Jarek grunts and vaults down into the well, with a mighty crash he lands at the bottom and shakily gets to his feet. The bottom of the well is a giant underground room where only Jarek's glowing eyes emminate the darkness. He turns and sees that the figure is moving towards him and as it nears, the sunlight from above ground illumenates the dark face and reveals....

Xiamara the succubus glances over her shoulder at Kyria coyishly and sends a crafty wink with a kiss to follow. Talon notcies this little bit of mischief and scowls at his succubus. Talon glanecs at Kyria and runs a hand through his extremley spikey light brown hair. He grins and whispers over Lilliana's voice, " Haven't seen you in awhile Kyria, what have you been up too?" Xiamara swishes her devil tail and cuts a small line down Talon's maroon and black robes, which she follows up with a cute giggle. Talon facepalms himself and shakes his head at her shenanigans. It was comforting to know that they followed and they even came to stand on either side of her, not right beside her, but close enough none the less. She took an even greater comfort knowing that they, like her, had seen their fair share of outcasting. They were warlocks, with an affinity for demonology, which was enough to send them out with pitchforks and torches. But not here, not in the Vale. They were accepted like any other person, everyone was equal here. Scarlet took great pride in the Vale and the variety of her people. In these dark times, the Vale was the last refuge from the evil that lay behind her walls.
A woman stepped forth, " My lady, I am Lilliana High Priestess of the nearby town of Vallion. My people have recieved your message of aid and have sent myself and these monks from the Temple of Light. We have considered your offer to end this plague and have come up with a way to assist you and your town. Lilliana stepped back and stood next to her group of monks.
Very Well. Scarlet said curtly. You are welcome to stay here, you and your monks, However. She stopped and let her gaze linger around the room, taking her left eye out of the socket to clean it and returning it to its place. Some faces seems intrigued, others turned away, trying vey hard not to make a scene as she watched them all. However She continued. If you stay in my town, you will treat its people as they should be, with dignity and respect. The same will be shown to you in return. You may be afraid of what you see here, but that is no reason to call what you see an ‘Abomination.’ One of the monks in the crowd lowered his head to hide his embarrassment beneath his hood. The Vale welcomes you, She only asks that you treat others as you would like to be treated. Scarlet looked around the room, her eyes searching for anyone who’d dare disobey her. She saw none, these were holy men and woman, and what she asked happened to be one of their God’s commandments, not just a moral code. Satisfied, Scarlet stood up and bowed her head, extending her arms out towards the doors.
Make yourselves at home.

..."She only asks that you treat others as you would like to be treated..." at these words the monk who hid his face earlier now raises it in defiance. " Treat others like we WOULD BE TREATED!?" His anger surged through his words as he pointed an accusatory finger in Scarlet's direction. " YOUR kind, has never treated our kind FAIRLY!! Who are YOU to question our judgement??!! You a lich just like the fiend Nekkrutal!! Just beacuse you've fooled these townspeople to accept your ways DOES NOT mean we will!" The monk steps forward to continue his angry rant but Lilliana steps in front of him and places a calming hand on his chest. " Brother Newman, that is enough from you. We are here to aid not cause arguments. If you have a problem with following her orders fine, but you WILL follow mine or be sent back to Vallion, are we clear?" Brother Newman casts an angry scowl at the lich in front of him before nodding curtly at Lilliana and taking his seat back. Lilliana takes a deep breath before pulling out a white ribbon and twirling her hair into a bun. She turns back to Scarlet, " Please forgive his outburst, we've lost many loved ones to the undead plague. Rest assured he WILL follow my orders. Now I would like to take these men to rest and prepare for their duty. Where can we stay?"

Kyria shakes her head at Xiamara, then replies to Talon. "Nothing, really. The usual mischief. Been spending some time with Scarlet. You?" Then she noticed the bite on his hand. Slowly, she reaches over, and pulls his hand closer, so she can examine it. "What happened? Xiamara do this?"

At the monks outburst, she dropped Talons hand, and stood up straight, pinpointing, and recognizing, the monk in question. Not able to help herself, she says, "'Your kind'? I thought monks were supposed to be non-judgemental or something." She stepped towards Scarlet, Simi right next to her. "Just in case any of you get any crazy notions here, let me explain something to you. Scarlet is NOTHING like Nekkrutal. Lich, yes. Fiend? How can you enter the Vale, see the acceptance," she indicates herself and Talon, and the demons, "of us so called 'abominations' by even the mages and paladins here, and think she is anything like Nekkrutal? There is a peace here in the Vale that seems to be lacking in the rest of the world. While we may be different from you in appearance, or choice of magics, our cause is the same. We, the 'fooled townspeople' will follow Scarlet to the ends of the world, not because we are fooled by her. But because we trust her. End of story." She looked directly at the angry monk. "You come into our town, insult US with no thought of character, just sight, and you say 'our kind' has treated you unfairly? I think just the fact that you insulted my demon and I did nothing but accept your presence in the Vale without anger should prove how fair we are, here."

She was lumping herself and Talon in with Scarlet in regards to the 'your kind' remark because, while they were not lich, they were also frowned upon and feared in general by most people. Her rant ended, she stepped back against the stage next to Talon.

So, defiance did stand in the Vale, and he was persistant. The accusation flew from him like daggers and pierced themselves deep in her chest, every word as sharp as the last. There was no emotion on her face, how could she? She couldn’t allow defiance to see her break. She would keep those daggers hidden and tend them later, when she was alone. She couldn’t think of anything to come back with. She was a Lich, that much was true and Nekkrutal had done a damn fine job of smearing it. Kyria stood up for her and those daggers felt less painfull as she defended Scarlet. When Lilliana stepped forth, shushing her monk and trying to hide the defiance that shown so blatantly on his face. Scarlet took in a sharp breath, hiding the fact that all those words still stung in her chest.
Be that as it may...Newman was it? Call me what you will, compare me to Nekkrutal. I welcome this, for you will soon be shown that you are in the wrong here. My actions have spoken louder than any words ever could.
Scarlet pulled Lilliana to the side, whispering so only she, Kyria and Talon could hear.
Listen very carefully Lilliana, your ‘dogs’ can bark at me all they please and accuse me up and down until their faces turn blue. The second I hear they have turned their accusations towards my people, the very SECOND they dare to defy my hospitality, you, All of you, will be sent from here and back from whence you came. The safety and well being of the citizens of Velis Vale is all I care about in this ‘un’life. Do not make me raise my hand against you and yours. Have I made myself clear?
Lilliana’s eyes were hard and in agreement with her and she waved her off as her and her monks turned to leave.
There are no rooms left in the inn, you will stay at my manor. If you cannot show respect to me, at least treat my house with some decency, all of my décor is old and well kept, and I expect it to remain that way. Follow the path up the hill, my servants will show you your rooms.

Lilliana gives the briefest of nods and motions for the rest of the monks to follow her as they exit the town hall. While the last of the monks are moving out the door, Talon turns to Kyria and Scarlet, " Well said Kyria, those damn monks can be more hateful then any warlock i know. Anyways Im glad I returned in time to offer my services Scarlet. Kyria would you join me for a drink at the tavern? I don't think we've done that since last summer." A large smile appears and Talon nods in Scarlet's direction before holding out his arm for Kyria to take. Xiamara huffs with jealousy and whips her tail on the ground but proceeds to follow her master. Simi the imp cackles wildly at the display and hops from one foot to the other clapping his scaly hands togeather before looking up at Kyria and sticking his tounge at her in silly defiance.

Kyria glares at the monk as he walks by before saying anything. She looked to Scarlet first. "When will people learn? Jeez. You ok?"

Then she turns to Talon. "Yeah, a drink sounds good, provided Scarlet doesn't need anything else." She waits for Scarlets reply before taking Talons arm. She looks sharply at Xiamara as she whips the floor, and then at Simi as he sticks his tongue out at her. She sighs, rolls her eyes, and lets out a small chuckle. "So where have you been, anyways? You know I hate sleeping in an empty house." She teased her roommate.

Talon leads Kyria out of the town hall and towards the tavern down the road a bit. " Recently I have been studying with the powerfull warlock Volrath. I don't know if you remember hearing of him but Volrath was one of the first to transform himself into a demon and revert back. So the reason I left town for a few months was to go study and apprentice under him. The training was hard and this mark you see is an initation into the ranks of the DemonShifters." They near the entrance of the tavern where sounds of music and merrymaking emenate from within. A drunk townie stumbles in between them, staggers forward and vomits on his shoes before passing out. Talon gives the briefest of eyebrow raisings before he reloops his arm with Kyria's and walks them through the tavern. An upbeat irish tune is being played on a lute and bagpipes as he leads them to a table in the corner of the bar. Talon pulls out Kyria's seat before unsummoning Xiamara, As he sits down he shouts out for two ales then turns to Kyria. " I definetly missed the Vale though, lots of people I grew up with here. So when you say mischief what exactly does that entail??" He grins devilishley at her before gulping down some ale that a barwench hands them.

I’ll be fine Kyria, go, enjoy the rest of your day. Scarlet gave Kyria a reassuring smile and watched as Talon lead her from the hall. Trevor who watched the entire ordeal came to sit in a pew just in front of her.
“Don’t let what that idiot said get to you. He doesn’t know what hes talking about. You are NOTHING like Nekkrutal.” Trevor said, sending the point home.
I know, Trevor. Thank you. Was all she could manage to say, deep down she was hurt by those words and every once and a while they would ring in her skull.
“Do you want me to keep an eye on them?" Trevor finally asked after a bit of awkward silence.
No, that wont be necessary. I have a feeling Lilliana will keep them in line. Besides, I have eyes all over the Vale, if something should go wrong I’ll know of it. She gave a slight tap on her forehead, indicating her connection with the werewolves that kept watch over the town. Trevor nodded and began to go over the new wall idea as he pulled a peice of paper and a quill from his longcoat. Scarlet raised her hand in protest.
No wall’s Trevor.
“But M’Lady, walls will keep the undead out.
And they can also keep them in. If there were walls around the Vale, there would be nowhere for anyone to escape should we become overrun. We’d all be trapped inside our protective…wall.
Trevor nodded and scratched the idea from the paper.
Have you heard anything from the Driders?
“Yes M’lady. They agree with you and have given us permission to seek refuge in their wood should the Vale fall under attack. They have also been generous enough to offer their aid in just such an attack.” Trevor remarked, seemingly quite pleased with the result.
That’s excellent news! I’ll have to send an invitation to Arcanoxx for tea. Have you heard back from any of the other towns I sent Ravens to?
“None have come back M’Lady, but I’ll let you know the moment one does, if they don’t return to you first.”
Very well. Is that all?
“For now. We are trying to accommodate all the refugees that have been coming to the gates.”
If you cannot find places for them, send them to me. I’ll see to it that they have a roof over their head.
“Yes M’Lady.” He rose, bowed slightly to her and turned to leave. He closed the doors to the hall and the loud sound rang out in the now empty hall. Scarlet let out a painful sigh and sat quietly for a moment, the ringing of the monks words coming back. She called out into the darkness, even though she knew Jarek couldn’t hear her.
I hope you come home soon, Dear…

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Nah, I've just been busy at work, I could post again but I'm kinda waiting for Jarek, dont want to get to ahead of the story

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Sooo... am I the only one here? Am I talking to myself?

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Wasn't Arguing :)

And btw what type of warlock is Kyria, Destro? Demon? Talon has gotta be a demon lock

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Wow haha You people really love to argue, don't you?

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Fine then no more helping you can do it all on your own. I told you not to take it personal but fine. Have it your way :)

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Mercia, i appreciate your help but you gotta stop. I can handle WRITING A STORY. If I bring someone in its BEACUSE THEY HAVE A PURPOSE. Stop assuming I dont know what im doing please and thank you. I've run dark ages for you and dan, plenty of times and that shit is alot harder then a story i type online, stop doubting me.

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Enter Deadwood.

Nice, but I'll give you a little hint and a warning. Dont bring in to many NPC's you cant account for. You might bring them in and play around with them, but They have to have meaning to the underlining plot. Realize now that you have a few people you have to account for when the town battle starts. Talon, Lilliana, Gnasher, Trevor and maybe Jarek (depending on if you want him to come back in time). Now your bringing Deadwood into the mix. I have no problem with that, but you are new to this and I dont want 1) for you to be overwhelmed and 2) for NPC's to get left out in vital plots of story (such as a grand scale battle). Just remember you have to keep track of them and what their doing. Caedis can control Talon at some points and I can control Trevor and possibly Lilliana, and dont let us get into the habit of fully taking control over them because you have to many NPC's out already.

<3 And please dont take this as an Insult, or take it personally. I've been doing this a long time and seen alot of rp's fail because NPC's were left out, which affected vital gameplay and plot points. One step at time :)

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

And we'll help you out with it. The only way to make this type of rp work is to let your players go with it. Once you get used to us being in two different timeframes, it's really not that difficult. If you want, for now, I'll timestamp what timeframe I'm in to make it easier for you.

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

I keep forgetting Jarek is new to all this 'type' rp :P

Yeah, Timeframe is determined by players (mostly) and its your players that actually move the days along. Not to mention the fact that players will go on and on for a few pages of posts with just dialouge back and forth. It might seem confusing, but thats why you have to read every post, even if it doesnt pertain to your characters.

It is alot to take in, but you'll get the hang of it eventually :)

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Also, Jarek, I left my post open ended so you, as GM, can respond however you feel appropriate. :) just an fyi.

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

It's a bit confusing to do that with a first time online rper like jarek. But I can handle it. J, don't worry about me. I've been doing this a long time, and know how to jump in and make myself known. As long as you don't do anything that will affect Kyria, no worries. And feel free to use Talon/Xiamara whenever you need them, btw.

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Wanna know what the wonderful thing about the timeframe is?

Scarlet is interacting with NPC's at night :P

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Mercia please stop changing the timeframe, i left off in the town hall so Kyria could get involved. =(

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

chaos!!! chaos!!! lol good recovery Caedis hahaah

Re: [OOC] (Dark Ages) Chapter 1: Castle of the Dead

Its ok, I've got it under control :)
