xxAppearance:

When Thayer isn't in class and is allowed outside of his uniform, he can be seen sporting something like this. There will hardly be a time that he won't have his camera on him; whether it's loose with the strap around his shoulder or in its case by his side.

For a more formal look, he enjoys wearing suits. Not the cliche black tie ones that so many sport. He prefers to wear grey, blue, striped, plaid, etc.

His hair is normally fashioned in a wild way, strands flying any way they please and he has caramel brown eyes.

On the top of his right shoulder, he has a tattoo
.

xxPersonality:

Thayer is just an average kid at school. He's always laughing in the halls with his friends and is constantly taking pictures of everything and everyone. When he first walks into school he's either got his nose in his camera, checking out his shots, or with headphones in his ears. He's quiet until he gets to know someone, then he's very outgoing.

He tends to be a very honest person, the only thing he's secretive about is being the photographer for the Breadbowl, the school's local website.

It's not his photography he hides, though, because he runs a very popular Instagram account which mixes his personal and professional shots. He has over 25,000 followers on his account.

Image
xxHistory:
Thayer was only five when he picked up his first camera, and it was an old, digital camera he picked up from the basement in his family home. He carried it around for two year, snapping pictures of his mom, dad, and older sister. For his eighth birthday, his parents gave him his first real camera. It was't professional, but it was nicer and newer than the dusty one who he'd held more than his teddy bear. From there, he received an updated camera every two years, and the years between that he recieved accessories and cleaning kits for the camera collection he had accumulated.

Featured countless times in his neighborhood and previous school's website, Thayer decided he loved reading and receiving both criticism and praise for his work. So he transitioned his Instagram into one that also included his photography. It quickly gained speed and has the upwards of 25k followers. His account's popularity has resulted in him being hired by companies here and there to do international and national wedding photography as well as paying him to travel in order to capture the beauty of up and coming vacation destinations.

His parents are extremely supportive of his work, which is why they set off to find the best school that could help further his career and teach him skills that a community art center can't. They enrolled him at Laurel five years previously. When he met Keevan, they put their brains, Thayer's love of photography, and Keevan't knack for writing together and started the Breadbowl.

Every year on the day before Summer classes begin, a bonfire is held. Now, thanks to a pyrokinetic staff member the bonfire is able to be massive, without much risk of it toppling over and harming students (usually). It is held a little ways off from the dorms on the beach by the lake, and the main bonfire is often surrounded by smaller firepits with different food options at each one. There is always, without exception, some form of alcohol and some form of drugs available, and the teachers tend to turn a blind eye to it, leaving not five minutes after students arrive. After all, many of the students have families too powerful to persecute them, and the school grants a good amount of freedom besides.

Music is played throughout the night, sometime alternating between speakers and student run bands if they request to perform. Dancing around the bonfire is common, and usually the bonfire is kicked off by a partner dance that by now all of the Yearlies have learned, even if they don't ask or get asked to dance. There has been drama started over the dance before, but it really just depends on how seriously one takes it- often times friends will dance together, after all. But everyone looks forward to Breadbowl posts afterwards about which dances meant something, who made what mistake, who snuck away with whom, etc. Nothing is kept secret for long at Laurel.

It is already dark out, with a full moon above and bright stars, the nearest city being too far away to outshine the night sky. Later on fireworks will be set off, and sparklers are resting all over the place for the amusement of students.

It is now about ten or so minutes before the bonfire "officially" kicks off with the first dance, but most students have already arrived and are sitting about the fires. Predictably, some are already stumbling over their own tongues thanks to the weight alcohol puts on them. Thus, the best and brightest of their age group prove themselves to still be young after all.

"Let's set the tone to a dramatic summer, shall we?"

Thayer Gallup
{Seventeen - Rising Senior - Outfit: Here - #B6B6B6}
It was finally time for the pre-term bonfire and Thayer couldn't have been more excited. This was the prime time of the year for gossip, dirt, and pictures to fuel he and Keevan's online school newspaper, The Breadbowl. Tips would flood in about hookups, new friendships, and newly formed enemies and the site would crash under the amount of students that would log on to read everything tomorrow morning. The pictures he took that were placed in the article would be taken without anyone noticing and they would tell the students that they had been sent in by nosy classmates, as he was never the only one who brought a camera, that way no one would know that he was the actual photographer behind the operation.

He was currently walking down to the fire as he was a little late to show up because he had been setting up his new camera his parents had just gotten him for a "congrats, you're a senior!" present. Now it was clean and tucked away in his case, slung over his shoulder and swinging as he stepped through the trees and into the clearing. The lake was glimmering underneath the stars and he made a mental note to step back to this spot a little later in the night and take a picture, as it would make for a good cover photo for tomorrow's Breadbowl edition.

Nearing where the students had gathered around several individual fires that were much smaller than the towering one in the middle, Thayer kept sweeping his eyes back and forth. He was trying to find Keevan but was also searching faces for any of his other friends, wanting to say hello before the dance started. Just to the right there was a group of five or six of his schoolmates who were beckoning him over.

"Thayer, my man! Is that your new camera? I saw your picture on Instagram about it! Gotten to use it tonight?" A boy whom Thayer didn't recognize called out as he neared their fire. It wasn't unusual for someone to know something about his life even if he himself didn't know the person. His Instagram was very popular and most students at Laurel seemed to follow it, most hoping a picture he's taken of them will end up on it.

Patting his camera bag, Thayer shook his head and grinned, "Nope, not yet! You want to be the first?" His eyes sparkling with the anticipation of taking his first picture of the night, he began to unzip his bag before the students had even gotten to respond.

Two of the girls who were sitting there had giggled excitedly almost immediately and hopped up out of their seats. The boy who had first spoke raised his cup full of what Thayer guessed was beer, "F*ck yeah! Let's pop that camera's cherry!" The group around the fire were all standing now, some with drinks in their hands, the others throwing up peace or "rock on" signs. Thayer removed his camera, fiddled around with the lense and the buttons to figure out the lighting, held it up to his eye, and counted down from three before pressing the button on top and taking the picture.

The flash went off and he pulled his face back slightly to examine the picture on the camera's screen. The detail was stunning! You could see all the different reds, oranges, and yellows that were dancing in the flames of the fire and the sparks flitting down above the students were visible as well. "Looks great, guys, thanks!" Then he turned and walked off, still looking to find Keevan.

Image
Lucy Wood
{Sixteen - Rising Junior - Outfit: Here - #E8BBE0}
Lucy pulled the compact mirror out of her purse that was resting beside her on a log for the third time since she'd taken a seat beside one of the smaller fires. After reapplying a layer of red lipstick, she put it back and took a look around at the other fires. She had chosen one off to the side that would have prime viewing of a dance that apparently happened every year and was directly next to the drink table, where there were kegs, liqour bottles, and more solo cups than she'd seen in one place ever. This fire in particular had been crowded when she'd first arrived but she'd walked up and in a firm voice had instructed everyone to leave. Some had rolled their eyes and huffed, deciding it was better to just go along with what she was saying than to try and fight it, while others had scurried off the moment she had stopped before them.

It was more fear of Brooklyn than her at this point, and she knew that. She was still new, having only been at Laurel for the previous spring semester. Her face and name were known around the school in direct relation to first, her famous father, and second Brooklyn Winslet, the school's queen bee. Lance Aguilar was a close third as he was the only friend in her own grade she'd really made and the third of Brooklyn's posse. Thinking of the two of them reminded her that she hadn't seen them yet. They had planned on meeting at the bonfire instead of beforehand.

Lucy took her phone out of her bag and typed out a message in their group chat:

Third fire on the left, right by the drinks table. Prime seating. You're welcome. x

After replacing her phone into her bag, she stood up and walked over to the table to pour herself a drink. While filling her cup with Grey Goose vokda, her eyes once again scanned the crowd. She told herself that she was only looking for Lance and Brooklyn, when deep down she knew she was actually hoping to catch a glance at the cute boy who had been in her Science class the term previous. She was pretty sure his name was Drake. They had spoken a handful of times when he'd leaned over to nervously tell her that what she had written on her homework was incorrect and had given her the right answers moments before the instructor had collected the papers. Science wasn't one of her strong suits but it had obviously been his. One time she'd mentioned the boy to Brooklyn to ask more about him and had quickly regretted opening her mouth.

Brooklyn had this strange vendeta against Drake, finding him very untrustworthy and suspicious because next to no one actually knows the reason he's in Laurel. He's very secretive about what his power is. While Lucy agrees it's odd and told Brooklyn she'd stay away from him simply because she doesn't want to end up on her bad side, she can still sneak glances at him.

Taking several giant sips through a straw she'd slipped into her cup, a smile formed on Lucy's face as warmth from the alcohol filled her insides. She was planning on having several servings of Grey Goose and cranberry, wanting to make the most out of the night before classes begin. Lucy turned to return back to her seat and caught the eye of a cute boy whom at first she believed was Drake. He was standing at a fire not far away with his camera pulled up on his face, taking a picture of the students who were gathered around it. Her heart sped up and she bit her bottom lip a bit.

The excitement faded slightly as the boy lowered the camera and she realized that it wasn't the cute boy from science class but a senior, whose name, she thought, was Thayer. He was a friend of Brooklyn's, one whom she enjoyed heavily flirting with, and who was himself very cute. She debated going over and flirting with him a bit herself but thought Brooklyn might not like that and walked back over to the log, sucking down the rest of her drink and batting her eyelashes at a sophomore who had just walked by, asking him to make her another.

Keevan is hanging around in a spot that seems to perfectly suit him- not quite in the most crowded area, which is encircling the bonfire, but just off from the action. He is sitting on a log with a drink in his hand, with two or three people clustered near him chatting away. He occasionally offers a funny retort, but for the most part seems to be quietly listening to their chatter. Someone who knows him well, however, might note that his eyes seem slightly unfocused, and his head is turned ever-so-slightly towards a different group. The young man is most certainly trying to subtly eavesdrop on the group behind him.

The sips of his drink he takes seem like movements on autopilot, his body on cruise while his focus is trained on the other people. It is a group of guys, all of the attention centered on one in particular who is describing, in rather crude terms, a recent private encounter with some girl who is likely off dancing, completely unaware that this guy is definitely exaggerating as he takes part in the 'tell' of kissing and telling. As it becomes obvious how much this student is stretching the story, Keevan loses interest. The Breadbowl is for juicy stuff, not some guy pretending to be smoother than he is in front of his friends. Keevan takes another long drink and turns more of his attention to the group actually in front of him. Some of it, however, is now dedicated to scanning the crowd for a certain red-haired photographer who Keevan calls his best friend, partner-in-crime, fellow editor: Thayer Gallup. Perhaps due to the young man's unusual hair color, Keevan doesn't need to scan the crowd for too long before spotting the photographer trying out his new camera on a group of eager models. Keevan grins at the sight- people love a guy with a camera, and seem to especially love a guy like Thayer with a camera. He is instagram-famous, after all, and these days that means that much of the school knows his name, even when Thayer doesn't return the favor.

Keevan pops up off of the log and excuses himself from the group, although not before getting a few to promise to take part in a game of jenga or flip cup or something else of the like later in the night. Truth be told, Keevan isn't much for idle drinking. He'll partake for social purposes, but the young man really prefers games for it. He especially likes conversation games for drinking, as people's lips tend to become looser and looser with every sip, and he always makes sure he remembers what he hears. Perhaps this is a little underhanded, but everyone loves to talk about themselves when they've been drinking, and Keevan is simply willing to oblige the seemingly universal desire.

Keevan walks as quietly as he can, sneaking up behind Thayer who's head is moving side to side in what he can't help but assume is an effort to find him. It is a well known fact that if Keevan and Thayer aren't in class and aren't currently together, they are probably looking for one another- they are known for being a dynamic duo, after all. Keevan gets as close to Thayer's ear over his shoulder as he can without being noticed, and then in a breathy falsetto whispers, "My my, What's a guy like you doing in a place like this?"

He immediately steps back at the end of the question, ready with a goofy grin for Thayer to whip around, or perhaps jump in surprise at the sudden voice in his ear.

ImageWhile everyone else is starting to gather around the bonfire, and a few are probably already a few drinks in, Emerson is in her room under a pile of blankets, snoozing obliviously. She had skipped all sleep whatsoever last night while working on her computer, putting in new parts that she had just had delivered. Certainly, she could have waited until the next day and done all the work with daylight streaming through her windows, but Em had been far too excited for that and had immediately set to work when the part arrived. Somewhere along the way, she ended up carefully cleaning every detail of the CPU's interior, adding some time to it. While the rest of her room is disorganized and downright chaotic, the desktop on which Em works is in impeccable shape.

Em is sleeping quite soundly, although completely off her sleep cycle, until her phone alarm goes off with a vengeance. Her hand shoots out from beneath a powder blue quilt and smacks it as though it were an old fashioned bell alarm, which obviously does nothing to stop Hooked on a Feeling blaring from her side table. Finally her head pops out from under the blankets, hair a blond knotted mess, to turn off the phone. Seeing the time, she tosses off the blanket with surprising energy, suddenly perking up as she remembers the bonfire is tonight. Em struggles to force a brush through her hair before throwing on an outfit and tugging on her favorite pair of Engineer's boots and running out the door. Luckily, during the summer everything is so much closer together that it isn't too far of a walk from her room to the bonfire. The fire gives away the location from easily a mile away anyhow, and she quickly arrives among the groups of people. She pours herself a cup of Coke with the tinest splash of rum, knowing herself to be a bit of a lightweight but not minding a little bit of a warm fuzzy feeling. And, as one might expect, immediately starts looking out for a friendly face in the crowd of fire-lit figures.

Em begins walking towards a group, thinking she recognizes the back of a head, but as the guy with the head in question turns around she immediately changes path without a thought about it- the head belongs to Daniel Ahn, someone she prefers to avoid whenever possible. Anyway, where he is Petra might be near, and though Em is a slow learner she has had plenty of time to learn that interacting with Petra only makes her feel awful. So Em turns and heads towards a collection of people playing flip cup. For now, she just spectates. She's sure eventually someone will start another game, and perhaps that one she'll jump into- once she's had time to warm up a bit more to her drink, or has found some friends to play it with.

Thayer Gallup
{Seventeen - Rising Senior - Outfit: Here - #B6B6B6}
"My my, What's a guy like you doing in a place like this?" A breathy, high voice says in his ear. Thayer spun around so quickly that the empty camera bag looped around him and whacked his chest, moving with the force of his turn. It only took a moment to see that is was Keevan, grinning at his own joke.

"FUCK. You scared me!" Thayer breathed, running a hand through his firey red hair. His heart was still pumping wildly from the scare but he shook it off quickly, only punishing his best friend with a fist to the shoulder. "Come on," He laughed, turning once more, "I want to get a drink before the dance starts." Then he set off across the small beach, passing several smaller fires and waving when people called out his name.

He had already turned off his camera and put it safely back into its bag when he reached the kegs. Grabbing a solo cup, he filled it to the brim with beer and took a large gulp, downing half the cup.

"Have you seen Jenny?" Thayer questioned, attempting to sound nonchalant. He and Jenny had been friends for several years now and were completely platonic. Unfortunately. Not that he would ever admit that. They had spoken about hanging out at the bonfire together, to catch up about what the summer term held for each of them. "Or Drake?" He added quickly to hopefully distract Keevan enough to avoid the jokes he always made about Thayer and Jenny.

Drake was a boy a year younger than Thayer and a rising Junior, but he was good with a camera. Ever since the two had met, he had taken on the role of the boy's mentor, for photography and other things. He had told the younger kid that he would help teach him how to capture the fire and the stars in his shots without draining the people of their lighting and focus.

Digging his phone out of his pocket, he sent a text to Drake:

Hey bud. Let me know when you get here and we'll meet up.

And then against his better judgement, he sent one to Jenny as well:

I've already started drinking. Who am I going to suck at dancing with if you don't hurry?!

He then replaced his phone in his pocket and turned back to Keevan, holding out an empty cup to him, offering him a drink.

If Daniel could have his way, the annual bonfire would be quieter and come with a guest list. While he does enjoy the occasional party, it tends to be those that are small and expensive, and certainly more exclusive than the high school's yearly lakeside romp is. The party is always loud, most of the students are incredibly drunk, and it's full to the brim of people that Daniel normally only has to see in class or quickly walking past him avoiding eye contact. For someone considered the cream of the crop, Daniel certainly likes to avoid most people when possible. The young man wouldn't consider himself an introvert by any means, but he is very selectively extroverted- he is happy to be around people he admires or likes, they are just a very sparse crowd.

Still, the young man approaches the wild scene, his height making him easily spotted in a group. He briefly stands among a small group while pouring himself a drink that he will not be drinking (Daniel only drinks when pressed to, but prefers to stay away from things that might force him to give up any bit of control over his own senses), and then turns to look around for Petra, Brooklyn, or someone else that he might consider tolerable here. After all, it is for them that he comes to these things. It's a mandatory social function for them to make appearances at, and if nothing else it's sometimes interesting to watch some of the more careless students clumsily make fools of themselves.

As if thinking about fools will make them appear, Daniel catches sight of Lance and Lucy. The two of them are favorites of Brooklyn, and to be fair Daniel understands why. The pair are attractive, ambitious, and charismatic. That being said, he still thinks of them as silly underclassmen, and believes they lack the ruthlessness that he finds so endearing in both Brooklyn and Petra. There is time for them, of course, but their vulnerabilities are still occasionally left exposed like the belly of puppies not yet aware of how to properly defend themselves. They are clear choices for Brooklyn's pets, and it's clear why Brooklyn would be the one picking out successors. Daniel is far more discriminatory in who he likes, and he doubts there are many underclassmen whom would be fit for him to take them under his wing. His combination of coldness and charisma can be difficult to find, after all.

Daniel heads over towards Lucy and Lance, as they are people whom he is at least fairly friendly towards. And if nothing else, where they are Brooklyn and Petra might eventually appear, making this crowded event significantly more tolerable. As an after thought, Daniel sends the two of them a text.

To: Petra and Brooklyn
If I find out you two are skipping out on this and leaving me among all these miserable fools, I will put chili pepper flakes on your mascara brushes.

The threat is only a joke, of course, but Daniel's patience with this party is genuinely thin. "Better hope they don't spit in your drinks," he comments dryly upon reaching Lucy and Lance.

"Have you seen your mother around?" he adds the question on. If Brooklyn is Lance and Lucy's mom, then perhaps Daniel is the emotionally distant father who wasn't really sure he wanted kids in the first place. But now he has them, so he may as well look out for them or else it will look poorly on him.

Image

Keevan makes no attempt to mask his amusement at Thayer's characteristically over the top reaction to his little joke. He laughs from the belly, so hard that his sides begin to hurt from the ordeal. Feigning wiping away tears, Keevan returns to an upright position. At Thayer's mention of getting a drink Keevan raises his own cup as a sort of salute in agreement, "Well, if you are going to get a new one I better start fresh as well, so we can match each other."

With that, Keevan lifts his drink to his mouth and chugs it with a spirited effort. Once finished, he winks, "Oh, but that puts you one behind me, bud."

When they reach the keg, Keevan refills his cup and nods approvingly as Thayer easily drains half of his own full solo cup. He can't help but think of how much he's going to miss this ginger fool when Thayer graduates next year and leaves Keevan all by himself for an entire year (or more, depending on where they end up going to school). What will Keevan do without his partner-in-crime, his Jimmy Olsen (not that he's exactly Clark Kent Material), the Scully to his Mulder? He pushes the thought away and follows Thayer up by putting away half of his drink as well. Keevan does not intend to be outdone in this Breadbowl staff drinking contest which he has just made up in his mind.

Keevan perks up immediately when his friend mentions Jenny, and no mention of another person is enough to distract the young man from his best friend's mention of the girl that he secretly (but not subtly) has feelings for. And like a proper journalist, he immediately jumps onto the lead.

"Which Jenny is this again? The one you constantly talk about? Is this the Jenny that you get googly eyes around when you think she's not paying attention? The one that you'll blush at the mention of? That Jenny? Is that the Jenny you're asking me about?" his smile is wicked but not cruel. He takes another long drink of his beer, the excitement of teasing Thayer making him work up a bit of a thirst. When Thayer hands him a fresh cup he takes it and refills it without pause.

"No, I haven't seen that Jenny around. If she were here, I'm sure your spidey senses would have alerted you long before I'd ever see her anyway, eh, Romeo? But after you guys have your totally platonic just friends annual dance, I'm stealing you away to be my partner in beer pong- don't you forget me," Keevan raises his cup gesturing for Thayer to cheers with him to seal the contract.

"Yes, Mom... I know. My grades will be better going into senior year... Fine, I promise no principal visits... Okay, bye I love-" She hung up before Brooklyn finish. Brooklyn shoved her phone into her clutch, not wanting to take her anger out on the thing. Neither of her parents wanted to join Anthony and her on the drive to Laurel. Work is priority over either of them so it wasn't shocking that they weren't attending. Her older brother gave her a squeeze on the shoulder, attempting to comfort her. She gave him a fake smile before turning to stare out the window.

They parked on the outskirts of the party. Brooklyn admired the fire as it danced in the sky, reminding her of a ballet routine she did as a child. She attempted to get out of the car, but found it unlocked. Without saying a word, Anthony took her clutch and began to rummage through it. "I believe my therapist said we should begin the trusting phase of my rehabilitation." She said with a scowl, attempting to reach for the bag. Her brother frowned and help it out of her grasp. Damn him for being taller. "And I know you so that shrink can stick his doctorate up his ass." The last thing she wanted was for a fight to start. It'd take forever and she wasn't about to miss the first party of the year. Her brother sighed, handing her clutch and phone back to her. Brooklyn smirked at him as he got back into the car. Before driving off, he spoke to her, "I know you've got the doctors fooled, but please quit this. I'd rather plan your wedding than a funeral." Those words, while sounding cold to outside ears, meant the world to her. Anthony was one of the few people who cared and he cried when he first heard of her addiction. 'He's too good a person to get dragged into her shit' as she ran her finger down her phone that happened to have a hidden compartment that her brother didn't know about.

Strutting through the crowd, the people parted like the sea. Brooklyn commanded attention like the rightful queen she is and her rule could be called a dictatorship. Those people were just jealous like everyone is when they aren't deemed acceptable for her clique. Speaking of, she spotted her lovely group around the fire, minus Petra, her BFF. She quick shot off a text in her, Daniel, and Petra's group chat, smiling after reading Daniel's earlier text.

Peetie, I expect your presence soon. I might take Daniel up on that offer if you're a no show >:)

She moved closer to her friends, tucking herself under Daniel's arm. It would encourage the rumors that the two of them were together and Brooklyn would have a good laugh if it made the Breadbowl. Daniel might not like it so much, but he'd get over it. She gave him her most innocent smile, knowing he'd shrug it off. "Congratulations, I'm here! All of your lives just got better." Taking stock of who's arrived and who's yet to arrive. She had to get Thayer to take pictures of her tonight. She missed teasing him too. "So, what have I missed? "

Drake wasn't the type to spend hours getting ready for a party. He normally threw on a clean pair of jeans, one of his many superhero shirts, and a pair of chucks. Now, he was going through his limited wardrobe to find something. Drake looked nice with his flannel and black pants. However, underneath was a Spiderman shirt, for luck. Tonight would be different than last year or the year before. It had to be. Drake was tired of being the awkward nerd who people thought they needed to protect him or take him under their wing. He did appreciate it since it's made him plenty of new friends, but he wanted to be the cool guy. While he loved Peter Parker, he wanted to be a Tony Stark, the suave cool one that everyone wanted to befriend. Although, if he was talking Avengers, he'd was more like Bruce Banner. Spiderman wasn't an original Avenger, but- 'Focus! If you go down that train of thought, you won't ever make it to the party.'

Only a few can sit through one of Drake's lectures on the history of comic books. One of them was his roommate, Asher Blanche, was one of the few who could tolerate it. He is his best friend at Laurel and now roommate. Drake hopes they'll get to hang out at the party. Drake remembers one time they- A buzz from Drake's phone brought him away from his reminiscing. A text from his friend and mentor when it came to photography. Looking at the time stamp, Drake grabbed his keys and phone before dashing out of his room. He completely lost track of time!
~
Drake was out of breathe when he finally made it to the fire. He leaned back on one of the many trees surrounding the area, scanning the area while trying to make air get into his lungs. He spotted Thayer and Keevan. Drake wished he remembered to grab his camera so they could get a lesson in, but this is a party so maybe they could just hang. He spotted Sean, but didn't feel like starting off the night with the guy. They had a shaky friendship that only started due to Sean accidently using his power on the guy. To this day, Drake doesn't know if they are real friends or not. Finally, he noticed the popular kids. Lance wasn't so bad and Daniel ignored him which was okay, but Brooklyn made it her personal mission to ruin his life. Drake would keep his distance from her. However, Lucy was over there so he dared to sneak some looks. He noticed her the first day she arrived at school. She was in his science class and Drake would admit he spent most of that class staring like an idiot. The material was easy to him and he wanted to offer help to her, but Brooke decided she was going to be her next mean girl. It was unfortunate, because she seemed like a nice girl and Drake hoped she wouldn't be one of his crushes that nothing came of. Call him naĂŻve, but he still had some hope. He shot her smile when she looked his way before turning his head so he wouldn't capture the group's attention. Drake sent a text to Asher, wherever he was.

Hey man! I'm at the firepit, let's do something crazzzzy!!!

Asher would show up soon, but he had Thayer and Keevan for now. He filled himself a solo cup, taking careful sips so there won't be a repeat of sophomore year. He's been labeled lightweight ever since. He walked up to the guys. "Have room for one more?"

It wasn't long after she had texted Lance that he was by her side and asking the sophomore to make him a drink as well. Daniel, whom Lucy wasn't a huge fan of but used for his status anyways, joined them as the boy was bringing Lance his drink and made a smug comment about them spitting in her drinks.

She scoffed and rolled her eyes, standing so she was in front of Daniel, "Look at the lust in the poor boy's eyes. He tripped over himself when I first spoke to him. Why would he spit in my drink?"

Daniel was an odd soul and she could tell he wasn't a fan of her or Lance. He tolerated them. She reterned the sentiment, however, so they were mostly civil around each other. That's what it was like around The Unholy Trinity. She and Lance were seen as babies, and it wasn't that she didn't understand why. They had ruled the school for longer than she'd been there. However, she was new. She was the up and coming, even Brooklyn saw that. You'd think that they'd care more to help her learn the ways that to just treat her as if she was a toddler. She much prefered the presence of solely Brooklyn and Lance to hanging around Daniel and Petra as well. Alas, most of the places Brooklyn went, the other two followed. So she coped.

In annoyance, Lucy turned her back on Daniel and a scowl appeared on her face as she took in who was in front of her. It was the loner boy, Sean. He was a hot head and she wasn't a fan. Pity, though, he was quite good looking. If you enjoy the rugged, never smile, always in a bad mood type. Her eyes didn't stay on him and his party-of-one bonfire for long because out of the corner of her eye, she saw a moving bright red object.

Why would anyone wear a neon red shirt to a bonfire? It clashes with the colors of the fire. Her thoughts were brief, because when she noticed who occupied the piece of clothing, she was both amused and horrified. Putting her hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh, Lucy noticed that it was Drake in a bright red spiderman shirt. God, he's cute. She said, chewing on her bottom lip while the heat rose into her cheeks at the fact that she was currently attracted to a science nerd in a spiderman shirt with a flannel over it. Drake's eyes flitted up to hers and she could have sworn she noticed the ghost of a smile, but as quickly as their eyes had met, he had looked away.

Lucy was glad he had because moments later, the queen bee herself joined them. Brooklyn immediately tucked herself under Daniel's arm and Lucy could have laughed at the sight of their disfuctional family.

"Congratulations, I'm here! All of your lives just got better. So, what have I missed?" She asked the prince and princess.

Knowing she'd be wondering where Thayer was, Lucy was quick to offer that information, "Your photographer is over at the far keg with that writer, Keevan." Her eyes danced over Brooke's gorgeous outfit. "Cute necklace, B. Taking another sip of her drink, Lucy suddenly found herself wondering if she could find an excuse to talk to Drake sometime in the night. Maybe when Brooke, Daniel, and Petra were talking photos with Thayer. She was pretty sure he wasn't going to be making the first move towards conversation considering how The Unholy Trinity viewed him.

The distraction of bringing up Drake hadn't worked in the slightest, although Thayer honestly hadn't expected it would. Keevan knew him too well, although he respected him enough to only make horrifyingly embarrasing comments about his infatuation for Jenny when no one else was in ear shot and had never posted on The Breadbowl about a possible budding romance between the two either. Not that he hadn't threatened. Thayer had just reminded him of the picture he'd taken of the writer passed out drunk on the toilet with his boxers around his ankles and that he too knew the password to the account that made the posts on their websites. That had shut Keevan up real quick.

Now, though, Thayer just let his face get red and continued drinking his beer, pretending that he couldn't hear the teases. At one point he muttered, "I don't have spidey senses..." into his cup. After Keevan was done with his insessant ramblings, Thayer hesitantly bumped his now mostly empty cup with the one he'd just filled for his friend. He downed the remnants of his drink, and poured himself another. That put him at three. If he was going to have to put up with these jokes all night he was going to need at least two more.

His pocket buzzed and his heart skipped a beat at the prospect that it was a message back from Jenny, but when he pulled out his phone he saw it was just an Instagram private message. Someone wanting to talk about him shooting their engagement photos. He'd have to get back to them later. Putting his phone back in his pocket, a familiar voice caught his attention. It was coming from nearby.

It didn't take Thayer long to find Brooklyn and her posse. Damn, she looks good. He thought as he let his eyes take her in, moving up and down over her body. Her consistant flirtations proved to be continuous temptation for Thayer as she was an extremely beautiful girl. Sometimes he even thought of letting into the temptation, but images of Jenny always flooded back into his head. Due to that, he decided he wouldn't say anything to Brooke. Not just yet. He was pretty sure she'd find him at some point in the night anyways.

As if on cue, the ultimate Brooke cockblock walked up. It was Drake. The boy smiled at Keevan and Thayer before bending down to fill up his own cup, "Have room for one more?"

Thayer grinned, throwing his arm around Drake's shoulder and pulling him to his chest for a quick hug. Tousling his hair a bit as he let the younger boy go, he replied, "Always have room for you, my man!" Then, almost immediately, Thayer noticed Drake had packed lightly tonight. "No camera tonight?"

There was a trace of disappointment in Thayer's voice, but that was only because he loved that Drake loved photography as much as he did. Their lessons were one of the best parts of his week. It wasn't that big of a deal though, honestly, it had been a while since the two boys had just hung out together - sans camera.

The world stood suspended in silence, more still than was natural. Frozen with hostility and some other, puissant force. The only tremor was around the younger Kingsley, who seemed to pulse ever so slightly, with power.

"I'm warning you, you..."

The elder woman's words dripped with venom, but she seemed hesitant to finish her sentence. Not because of guilt, or reluctance to hurt, but rather because she had suddenly noticed the haunting placidity of the room around her.

"'You... what'? You monster?"

A step forward, towards her mother, but the parent found she could not step back. Was it fear? Or some other force, holding her there? In the moment, she could not tell. All she was certain of was this thing advancing towards her, and the hellishness of it.

"What are you-"

"You should be careful, mother,"

Their faces inches apart, the beast's expression was calm, but her eyes betrayed something else. Something cold. Sinister.

"Who knows... what this monster might do."

...

When it came to partying, Petra had often been advised to show caution. Her temper, combined with her powers, tended to be dangerous on a normal day, but when alcohol was present and hormones were high- 'twas something of a recipe for disaster.

That said, she felt little apprehension as she readied herself for the annual bonfire night. Perhaps it was her own selfishness- that knowledge that if she did lose control, it would likely be someone else paying for it. Or perhaps she had simply softened over this past year, and eased away the hidden anxiety that often accompanied her daily dealings with the dangers of her powers.

Perhaps, after her most recent confrontation with her mother, she just really needed a drink.

Arriving at the bonfire, she felt the gazes without meeting them, and, like usual, the sensation invoked the slightest smile of satisfaction. Her reputation preceded her, but she never failed to live up to expectations. Perhaps that wasn't something to be proud of, considering some of the stories, but such a notion did not sway her pride, and as she caught sight of a familiar tall figure, her smile only grew.

Cutting through the crowd, she made her way over to the steadily growing group, and bit back a flush of dissatisfaction at the extra company. It wasn't that she disliked Lance and Lucy. They were... fine. Likeable, even. But there was something about the introduction of others that never failed to disappoint her slightly- she thought it may be her possessiveness, although other times she liked to pretend such a thing didn't exist.

Initial reaction vanishing almost immediately, by the time she'd made it to the group she was all pleasant smiles, and holding a mix of something alcoholic in her hand. Sidling up next to Daniel, she gave the group a cursory greeting smile, catching the end of Lucy's comment.

"Judging from the general sobriety, I take it I haven't missed anything too interesting?"

Is there such a thing, at events such as these? She kept her cynical, stick-in-the-mud thoughts to herself, already anticipating what the dizziness of her drink may do to her.

She was right... she did need a drink.

Genevive was terribly late to the bonfire. The reason? That morning she had gotten horribly sick the moment she had woken up, having to lie to Pepper saying that it must’ve been some random bug going around. She had been getting horribly sick lately, and she didn’t know why. Jenny had decided to keep it a secret from her friends because she hated feeling like a burden, but lately it was getting too difficult to conceal. A part of her was terrified that she wasn’t going to feel any better by the time the bonfire rolled around. Which would’ve been a nightmare to lie about. Fortunately after taking the right amount of Ibuprofen, her headache and sickness faded slightly making her feel a little bit better. Pepper had already left, and she was scrambling to find something cute to throw on. She might not of cared too much about her outfit but, Thayer was going to be there. Her face blushed just at the idea of him as she shimmied on a shirt. Thayer was one of her best friends, and maybe she had started to feel a bit more for him in the past year but, Jenny had never been the confrontational type. Just as she was about to head out the door of her dorm her phone vibrated in her head and she opened a text.

From: Thay
I’ve already started drinking. Who am I going to suck at dancing with if you don't hurry?!

She smiled to herself and typed a quick reply in response as she headed out the door.

To: Thay
I’m on my way I promise! Don’t start having fun without me :) !!

When she finally arrived at the bonfire she surveyed the students who had already gotten there. Her eyes first landed on Brooklyn, her gut twisting, she hadn’t spoken to Brooklyn in a while and she thought it was best if they kept things that way. Much to Jenny’s dismay the two had been on rocky ground, and it didn’t seem like Brook wanted that to change anytime soon. She then noticed Keevan, Drake, and Thayer next to the bonfire, her face lighting up. She made her way over to them, Thayer happened to be facing away from her. She made eye contact with both Drake and Keevan in a ‘don’t say anything’ glance, as she placed her hands over Thayer’s eyes from behind. ”Guess who?”
She lowered her voice slightly to try and make it different, but couldn’t help the small giggle that escaped her lips.

At first, Cayden had decided not to attend the bonfire. While he didn't have anything against the idea of being with his friends and drinking, he was just having a particularly rough night. For some ungodly reason his anxiety was through the roof, and he had a bitchin headache. He knew how disappointed his friends would be however, if he didn't show up. (Especially Mason). The factor that pushed him to go was the text that he received from Lance. He bit his lip slightly as he read the message, of course he wanted to see Lance but he knew all the people who were going to be attached to his hip at the party and he wasn't too fond of any of them. Cayden had become slightly distant from Lance because of his association with the plastics, but Cayden knew there was still the sweet boy he'd studied with underneath. With a sigh he quickly slipped on an ensemble from his closet, and after a moment slipped a guitar over his shoulder heading out the door, replying to Lance.

To: Lance
When do I ever miss a party? Bringing my guitar if you feel like putting on a show. :)

The bonfire was already in full swing when he got there, and he smiled and waved at a few familiar faces that glanced his way. He immediately spotted Lance, (of course surrounded by Cayden's least favorite students). Cayden could never approach that group willingly, so instead he gave Lance a small smile and wave when he caught his eye before moving over to the drink table, grabbing a cup of alcohol for himself. After all, he'd need it. He just had a feeling he would have to get a little drunk to survive this night.

Sean was silently simmering about exactly how much time he’d have to spend in front of this fire to officially say he’d shown ‘school spirit’ when a little voice cut through his impatient thoughts. "Hi Sean.”

Sean was a little shocked that anyone here really wanted to approach him, but he leaned back and looked up into the face of Pepper. He nodded slightly in understanding, they were new-ish friends. He was still warming up he supposed, trying to decide if she was a good friend to have or something. She seemed a genuinely caring and supportive person, even if she did associate with the walking trouble that was their self-appointed Queen, Brooklyn.

“Oh, Salt and Pepper.” He nodded to acknowledge her presence.

“Do you mind if I sit next to you?” She asked. “I'm a bit lonely here..."

Sean sniffed and rubbed at his nose as he looked around at the empty logs surrounding him. He had kind of liked lonely, but he wasn’t the type of bastard to leave a sweet girl like Pepper hanging. Despite what you might have heard about him. “Well, I mean, I do have a lot of friends due to turn up any moment, but I suppose there’s room for you.”
He smirked to himself and looked back out towards the throng of people, although it hardly seemed possible it looked as if the crowd had tripled in volume.

The time seemed to stretch out endlessly between Sean and his new log-mate. So he turned to Pepper and said the first thing that came to his mind, “I, uh, like your top thing.” He gestured vaguely to the white top she was wearing before he turned away and took a long, slow drink from his cup. Small talk wasn’t exactly his forte.

There was a group of boys all wearing caps not to far from him, and through the gaps of their bodies, Sean managed to spot Cayden. He had his hand half raised to wave over Cayden before he caught himself. It was hard not knowing what was up with the guy these days but it would be far worse if Sean had stuck around and hurt him. In fact just thinking about his old friend had the air around Sean raising by several degrees and he hoped Pepper accounted the heat to the fire in front of them.

He took a deep breath, and a long sip of his drink, forcing his body to uncoil and relax. “Who knew the academy even had this many students, huh?” He said in a much easier tone of voice, and leaned back on the log. “I reckon I’d be lucky to know a total of ten people in this entire place.”

AIR HIROTA
#66b3ff
Image
Air was running late. Well running late was probably the wrong expression for it. Air had been late, but she had also been blissfully unaware and uncaring. In fact, she’d been enjoying the empty courtyards and hallways, and had used them to practice her skate boarding. It was only when she skated round one of the dorms and saw the flames reaching upwards that she even remembered the bonfire. And so with a grin and wind swept hair she hurried towards the celebrations, completely under-dressed by any fashionable standards.

She tucked her skateboard up by a tree and ducked into the crowd letting the movement of it sweep her up. She didn’t see Kat anywhere and like usual, without the older, smarter, more mature girl to toddle along behind, Air was a little lost and very spacey.
She spotted Brooklyn, Daniel and Petra who had always been nice to her, but they were around Lucy, and honestly, Air didn’t have the mood or energy to be around Lucy. The two of them would never get along.

Eventually the crowd spat Air out in front of a drinks table, and with a shrug of serendipity Air poured herself up an alcoholic drink. Though when she heard Drake’s voice carry through the crowd, Air spun around. Of course, she’d failed to notice Cayden next to her, and as she moved off to find Drake, she also failed to notice that she’d knocked the drink in his hand.

It only took the girl a few bounds to find the dorky boy and with a grin she threw her arms around his neck. “Heya!”
She said as she released the poor boy, completely ignoring Thayer and Keevan, who he was with, after all she didn’t really know either of the two boys. “How huge is that fire?” Air laughed a little and stared up at the huge bonfire roaring away.

While people begin to settle more into the cheery atmosphere of the bonfire, and become steadily more buzzed, different collections of people clearly are forming. The most notable of them are the drinking games, as they tend to let out a roar of noise every few minutes as someone lands a good toss, a team wins a game, etc. Amid one such group is Emerson Hill, engaged in a game of drunk jenga that is becoming steadily more perilous with every block drawn. The fact that most of the blocks require someone to take a shot, finish their drink, or do something stupid that they may want to take a drink to brace themselves for, has hardly improved people's mastery at removing pieces. Tipsy as she is, Emerson is still the clear winner among the group in terms of ability to take pieces out of shaky locations with ease. Right now, her hand is on a single piece supporting the entire tower. She looks around at the crowd with a cheeky grin, raising her eyebrows as everyone leans in with suspense. With one smooth motion, she pulls it out, and the entire tower moves down an inch without shaking. She leans back looking like the victor of an olympic medal, to the cheers of the people around her. Reading the dare, Emerson takes another drink.

Her phone buzzes in the pocket of her short denim overalls, and Emerson makes a critical mistake: she pulls it out with a flourish. In this action, her elbow hits the jenga tower and sends it tumbling to the ground. Her face falls with disappointment, though mostly in jest. Someone hands her a can, "Rules are rules."

Erin wrinkles her nose at this. She had been enjoying the game, but the loser has to shotgun beer and she really doesn't want to feel like a frat star at the moment. She sends a quick response to Kat first, and then accepts her fate.

To: Kat
Get ready to be both proud and disappointed in me. Good news: I left my room and also had a poptart so I'm not drinking on an empty stomach. Bad news: I'm about to dishonor what little family I have left.

With that incredibly cryptic message, she puts her phone to the side and makes a valiant effort with the can. She's only done this maybe twice before, always at the bonfire, and it is a sorry sight indeed. If nothing else, she manages to keep it from getting on her clothes. Upon finishing, she feels like an absolute mess and a half. And then she catches sight of Sean and then Petra, one after the other, and immediately wants another drink.

As soon as Keevan catches sight of Drake approaching, he closes his mouth. He'll tease Thayer about his crush (which is most certainly requited but both members of it are way too deep in it to apparently notice) to the end of the earths in private, but when someone else is near Keevan does something he very rarely does: shuts up about it. This is a true testament to his respect and friendship for Thayer, given what a gossip and chatterbox Keevan otherwise tends to be. "Of course dude, the more the merrier!"

Keevan only really hangs out with Drake when Thayer is also around, but he enjoys the guys company. After all, they're actually in the same year- if anything, it's kind of funny how Drake is sort of Thayer's mentee, while Keevan is his best friend. Perhaps it helps that Keevan and Thayer's talents and interests are sort of on opposite ends whereas Drake has a lot that he and Thayer can work on together. Maybe if Drake were the writer and Keevan into photography, their positions would be flipped.

Likely called over by a text from Thayer, Jenny is the next one to join the group. Keevan tries to suppress a grin, but makes less of an effort to look over at Thayer for the guy's reaction to Jenny being so close behind him. He wonders, in hindsight, if Thayer had secretly hoped the clearly fake falsetto earlier had been coming from the tiny brunette girl standing behind him now.

Before Thayer could even really have a chance to respond, although Keevan suspects it will be with a scarlet blush, a stammer, and then a desperate attempt to seem completely cool and definitely not secretly in love with the girl, another girl bursts into the group. This time, it's Air- the peppy, if slightly ditzy, Influential. Keevan doesn't really know her that well, but she seems nice enough, same as Drake. And that's who she makes a beeline to in the group, completely ignoring the rest of them. Keevan has to scoot a bit out of the way to avoid being knocked over by her in all of her energy. Keevan glances over at the giant fire and grins, he can't help but agree that it is a pretty wicked sights. Perks of having students who can control fire at this school include wicked bonfires and firework displays. Meanwhile all he contributes is a gossip rag.

It's a pretty fun gossip rag, though.

For the first time that night, something resembling a smile lights itself across Daniel's face when Brooklyn slips herself underneath his arm, something that doesn't require much effort considering the height difference between the two. He has to admit, as she's the first person he genuinely likes to show themselves at the fire Brooklyn did genuinely make his life better by showing up. He hears someone whisper behind him, "I bet Brooklyn likes to party so much because otherwise Daniel's too much of a robot to be decent in bed." With that, the smile immediately vanishes back to his typical blank expression. It's not the comment of him being a robot that bothers him, because in many ways he tends to encourage the rumors that he's an emotionless asshole. Instead, the constant insinuations that he and Brooklyn are dating tend to get under his skin.

It's not even that he has a problem with people thinking that they are together, really. They are typically found side by side at all times anyway. It just irritates him a bit that people feel like they can whisper behind his back without him finding out about it, without consequences. Lions may not need to worry about the opinions of sheep, but that doesn't mean the baaing doesn't get annoying from time to time. He turns a bit, as though cracking his back, and makes direct eye contact with the two who were smiling and chatting behind them. They immediately look away, and he flashes a smile that is more teeth than friendly intentions. Without another word, they push through the crowd to distance themselves, and Daniel's menacing smile fades to a smug expression before turning back towards the rest of the group.

Petra is the next to approach the group, and her immediate comment is on the sobriety of the group. Daniel glances down at the cup in his own hand, still untouched as it will likely remain for the rest of the night. He looks back up at Petra and shrugs, "You all are free to drink- I'll play chaperone."

Every one of them knows that the young man doesn't touch alcohol so long as it can be avoided, and he tends to end up taking care of everyone else when they get a little too messy. And if something is to happen, if someone sees something they shouldn't or makes an untoward comment about one of the group, even if it's about Lance or Lucy, he tends to be the first one to take care of it. His friends are ruthless, certainly, and able to fend for themselves, but he likes to help keep their hands clean where he can. A little bit of sentimentality, perhaps.

In the distance, the student class president for the seniors stands up on a picnic table and calls out for everyone's attention. "Welcome to the summer semester, everyone! We're gonna be starting the first song in a minute, so find your partners, or a comfy sit to watch everyone else have fun fro-" a student at the base of the picnic table shoves at the young man's legs, causing him to stumble, "Okay, okay, don't worry about the fun then. But if anyone is looking for a partner, you know where to find me." The guy winks, and then jumps off the picnic table as the groups of students return to chatter in a dull roar that fills the area.

Daniel turns from watching the speaker back to the group, "Well, if either of you need a dancing partner let me know, but otherwise I'll hang back."

Minami was a self-proclaimed Queen of Procrastination; more times than not it was biting her in the ass. Like today. Instead of being at the bonfire, like most of her school mates, she was still stuck in the art studio. She had been practically living there since last week, only going to classes and back to her dorm room to get a few hours of sleep.

All because she had an exhibition next month and had to finish ten paintings within the next week so that the gallery could take photos to put on postcards, tickets and the posters advertising it. Minami had completely forgotten about the deadline, or rather she had spent more time switching between Instagram, Pinterest and Youtube, than paining.

So there she was; sitting on a cushion surrounded by empty mugs of coffee and a half-eaten sandwich, singing along the music coming from her phone and putting the finishing touches to the last painting. The chorus of Uptown Funk was interrupted by the sound of a new Instagram notification. Mina put down the brush and stretched, groaning in satisfaction when she heard her back pop.

Sitting in one position for far too long isn't fun, not at all.

She stood up and carefully stepped around the paint and mugs and took a few steps back to look at the finished painting. Mina couldn't help but smile, it turned out just as she imagined it. She went and picked the canvas up and placed it next to the other nine then stood back to look at all of them. The colors and the backgrounds blended perfectly, the people in them looked like they walked straight out of a dream.

Mina will have to thank Thayer again when she sees him, without his help she was sure she wouldn't have been able to finish them. Mina struggled to get the poses quite right so she turned to him and his amazing photography skills for help. Relived that she managed to finish them for tomorrow she did a small victory dance, which — if somebody was looking— looked like the hybrid between the macarena and the chicken dance, but there was nobody there to see her, so who cares.

I finally finished!! I'm freee!!!

Remembering that she had gotten a notification she went and picked up her phone. One of her fellow art students posted a picture from the bonfire, which reminded Mina that she better hurry up with putting away her stuff and go and get to the party before all the good drinks were gone. After she washed the brushes and threw out the trash, she picked up her half-eaten sandwich and ate it on the way to her room. Drinking on a empty stomach was never a good idea. Mina shuddered just remembering last summer when a couple of girls her age thought it was a good idea to forgo dinner. She had to throw away her favorite pair of sneakers.

The halls were empty with all the people already at the bonfire, so it was no surprise that Mina's roommate Sophie, wasn't in their room. She hurriedly took off the clothes she usually wore when she painted and threw them into the hamper, pulled out a dress from her dresser and put it on then went on the hunt for her white converse, which were for some reason hiding under her Sophie's bed. Going to the bathroom to put on some make-up she noticed that she had managed to get some pink paint on her right cheek. She could either try to take it down now and be more late or she could leave it for tomorrow, "I guess I'll leave it." She shrugged and reached for her eyeliner. After she carefully lined her eyes she rummaged for a lipstick in her make-up bag until she found one with a similar shade of pink and applied it to her lips. After looking at her reflection from all angles she decided to go all-out and took a make-up brush and applied a little bit of lipstick to her other cheek, then took darker pink eye-shadow and applied it over her cheeks. With the Camo dress and the paint she looked ready for war, or in her case drinking games.

The first thing she did when she got there was to go look for a drink. "Mina! You're finally here," Sophie almost tripped over her own feet in her hast to get to her. Mina laughed as she hugged her. "Hey, Soph!" "Come do shots with me." She didn't wait for her to answer, she took Mina's arm and pulled her toward one of the tables where shots of tequila's were being distributed along with slices of lime and salt. Mina was on her third shot when she heard cheers coming from a few tables over and turned to see Emerson. "I'm gonna go play some drinking games. Wanna join?" Mina told Sophie. "Nah. I'm gonna go look for Zack. Laters." Sophie blew her a kiss, then went to look for her boyfriend.

Mina made her way to Emerson but before she reached her, she saw a very familiar look cross her face, even before Mina followed her line of sight she knew who she would see, Sean. Knowing well how it feels seeing your ex, Mina knew the right thing to get him from Emerson's mind even if it was only for a little while.

"Hey, Em!" Mina smiled as she gave Emerson a hug, "You wanna show those guys how it's really played?"she motioned toward the the guys playing Flip cup, right out of Sean's line of sight.

Petra had joined them at some point in the night but Lucy had chosen to block she and Daniel out. Her ears only perked up when she heard Lance or Brooklyn's voice. She had heard Lance offer everyone drinks, but she hadn't replied because she'd already gotten a third vodka cranberry from a passing freshman who had freely looked her up and down until she'd cocked an eyebrow at him, holding out her empty cup.

It honestly wasn't that she disliked Petra and Daniel, she just didn't care. They didn't seem to care for her much, besides respecting Brooke's choice of she and Lance as their predecessors. Instead, she kept taking sips from her cup and allowing her eyes to wander, her empty hand resting on her cocked hip. Her eyes had flickered to Drake more than once, but she always made the glance brief for fear of Brooke noticing. Then, she had noticed a girl joining Sean and, the strangest thing about the situation, him letting her. Lucy scoffed and rolled her eyes. It was that Pepper girl. Losers of a feather flock together. She thought to herself, slitting her eyes at the two loners.

"Welcome to the summer semester, everyone! We're gonna be starting the first song in a minute, so find your partners, or a comfy sit to watch everyone else have fun fro-" A student began before being shoved and stumbling over by another person.

So, it was time for the infamous dance. She raised an eyebrow to Lance and smirked, "Are you going in?" Lucy had never seen the dance let alone knew the steps so she was content to find a good seat and watch all the royal court jesters. Maybe if everyone went dancing, Drake wouldn't be too scared to talk to her. Or, if she ran out of patience, she could just sneak away and say hey herself. Of course, there was always the chance that Lance was going to drag her in and let her figure things out. Mentally preparing herself to be socially humiliated before summer term even started, Lucy took another giant sip of her drink.

Thayer Gallup
{Seventeen - Rising Senior - Outfit: Here - #B6B6B6}
When his eyes had been on Brooklyn's crew, Thayer had noticed how she cuddled up to that Daniel kid and how the students around them had began pointing and whispering. If The Breadbowl posted about a possible budding romance between the two - it may not bug the Unholy Trinirty, or whatever they called themselves, but it would certainly fuel the buzz around school. He took out his camera, snapped a picture while no one was looking, and nudged Keevan was just telling Drake that he was more than welcome to join them, pointing his attention over at Brooke and Daniel. Suddenly, Thayer was blinded by what he guessed were two small hands. A distorted voice said, "Guess who?" and for a small moment he hadn't been sure who it was. Then a giggle gave them away.

Thayer felt his face flush slightly as he realized it was Jenny but he quickly regained his composure and decided to play along, "Uhh..." He started, pretending to think. "Angelina Jolie?" He didn't even wait for her to respond to his joke, though, and instead ducked out from under her grasp as he was pretty sure she was going to swat at him for guessing Brad Pitt's wife instead of her.

Turning to face her, his grin never faltered. She looked beautiful - as she always did, and the way the fire light mixed with the moonlight made her skin look a glowy orange. Marvelous. Thayer thought silently. He had been working on a portfolio focusing on using light from other sources besides natural light and usual sources such as lamps and lightbulbs and this shot would be a great addition.

Thayer's camera was still out from taking a picture of Brooke and Daniel so he muttered a quick, "Stay put" as he moved his head to Drake slightly, calling his attention over. He made small comments as he played with the settings, "This one jumps between modes: portrait, sport, scenery, etc...Here I'm going to increase this so the colors don't get washe out....Flash off...You know this effect because it's what we added to your shot last week...Make sure it's focused...Double check the white balance..." The camera made an audible click and Thayer held the camera out so he and Drake could check it out.

Before he could show the rest of the group, the announcement that the dance was about to begin came on. It was he and Jenny's pre-summer term tradition to get really drunk and make fun of the underclassmen who were trying so hard to follow the steps they hadn't yet learned. Thayer brought his eyes to meet Jenny's and smirked, sticking his camera back in his bag. Then he turned to the drinks table, poured two shots of Vodka, and held one out to Jenny. "My lady. May we get even drunker and laugh harder this year than all the others." He downed his painfully as she took the one he'd poured for her.

Brooklyn had a good feeling her arrival did make her group's life better. She was aware of the neutrality among them. The members of the Unholy Trinity as they've been called behind their backs and Brooklyn's popular-kids-in-training were not as close of friends as people liked to believe. Brooklyn was aware she was the glue holding all of them together and it was as ego building as it was exhausting. But hey, no one said being a Queen was easy.

Minor chatter filled the group until Petra finally arrived. Her mention of the group's sobriety was both truth and tragedy. It wasn't a party until everyone was wasted. "I'll take a drink if you're offering, love." Brooklyn wouldn't turn down a drink if Lance was offering.

"You all are free to drink- I'll play chaperone." Brooklyn had a feeling Daniel would try to play the adult since he was better at it than her. She was looking forward to trying to get him wasted since it was their last bonfire, but old habits die hard. "Boo!... Fine, but I'm getting a dance tonight from you if you're not drinking. I'll be nice so you can wait until everyone's too drunk to remember your dancing skills." Or lack thereof, but Brooklyn wouldn't point that out tonight. Tonight was about fun and recklessness, her two favorite things.

Brooklyn took a drink from Lance and downed it with one gulp. It wasn't enough to do anything, but she'll be party hyped having her party favor. Brooklyn fingered her phone case which hid tiny, candy-looking tablets. It was a small dose compared to what she's used to, but her parents monitor her spending so taking out a large sum of cash would be a red flag. It would be enough to get her party on though. It was easy to hide it when the class president made an announcement about the first dance of the night. A simple sleight of hand and those pills were down her throat and into her system. Time to get her party on.

"Let's dance!" Petra's hand was the first one offered and Brooke was quick to grab it, almost pulling her to the floor. "I BETTER SEE YOU BOTH OUT THERE TONIGHT!" She shouted to her minis. It didn't take long for Brooklyn to get into the rhythm of the music and people were eager to be seen dancing next to the Queen and her BFF on the dance floor. Brooklyn didn't care at the moment she was too busy having fun.

XXXXXXXXDrake Darby
lX【 Rising Junior | Power | #aa0909 | HERE 】

"Sorry man, I would've brought it, but I'm as dedicated as you." Drake teased. "We'll get a lesson in this week." Drake did love photography, but the love between Drake and his camera wasn't as intense as Thayer's love for his. He had missed their annual photo sessions and he wanted to show Thayer this new camera trick he found for taking pictures. The guy probably knew it already, but Drake would one up his master one day.

It didn't take long for Drake to notice a sneaking Jenny behind Thayer. He caught her look of 'don't say anything' and hid a smile as he took a drink from his cup. The two of them were so oblivious to the crushes they had on each other. It was cute, but Drake wanted them to just kiss already. It reminded him of every romance movie he marathoned with Genevive. Their 'girls' night' only blew half of Drake's man cred.

The way Thayer looked at her after playing a game of guess who with her was precious. To Drake, they were perfect for each other. Drake is the captain of Thayervive ship. Jenny is like his big sister and Thayer is his mentor so he couldn't ask for a better pairing. When Thayer stopped to take a picture of her, Drake couldn't help the knowing grin he shot Genevive from behind Thayer. He was listening to Thayer's advice and absorbing the information, but he wanted to pull a Sebastian and start singing 'Kiss the Girl.' He couldn't help the line he whispered to Thayer, "Are you going to add that to your personal collection?"

A pair of arms grabbed him from behind and Drake found his favorite skateboarder attached to them. Air was one of his closest friends at the academy, mostly due to her constantly needing him for homework and their annual Dance Dance Revolution battles. A smile came across his face as he gave her a proper hug. "Hey yourself! The fire is super big although they could add another layer of wood to the outer frame of the fire. They'd have to birch or pine to keep the light going on the fire. Darker woods burn longer, but produce more heat and less light. I guess since we have some students with fire abilities so it's not a big effort and- and I realized I've been ranting about how to make a fire." Drake sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Nerd much?"

When the class president began his speech about the annual first dance, Drake could feel himself freeze. He wasn't a terrible dancer since he is credited as number one on the Dance Dance Revolution machine at the local arcade, but he didn't feel like showing off his amateur skills in front of the popular kids. The last thing he needed was for them to have more ammunition against him. He took a drink from his cup, relishing in the slight burn.

Jenny bit her lip slightly to contain her smile as he placed his hands over hers. ”Uhh… Angelina Jolie?” She rolled her eyes, laughing at his teasing and was prepared to give him a proper shove. However, he already knew this was coming. He quickly ducked out as her way, wearing his signature goofy grin. He looked handsome as always, a slight pink color appearing on her cheeks. She hoped it didn’t show. Even though Thayer had ducked out of the way she still leaned over poking him in the chest gently, shaking her head with a smile. ”Angelina Jolie?! You are, quite possibly, the biggest dork I know”.

Jenny watched his eyes fall intently into focus, and she had dubbed this his ‘camera face’. She had always thought it was quite cute when he concentrated on his photography, it was like he was in his own little world. This time, the subject was her. “Stay put” he said quietly as he aimed the camera at Jenny and she tried not to blush again. Thayer was always taking pictures of anything he came across, and Genevive had been a big help in some of his shoots. No matter how many times she was in front of the camera lens, it never made her any less nervous. As Thayer coached Drake about the proper way and technique to use a camera in this lighting Jenny tried not to fidget any so he could take a good picture. She had a soft smile on her face, as she heard the camera click, not even realizing she had been holding her breath the entire time.

Jenny turned her head sharply to the speakers as a small speech was made about this summer, followed by a thumping bass. The dance had started. Jenny turned back to Thayer with a grin, as he was already getting started with pouring two shots for the both of them. Jenny was never a heavy drinker or a huge ‘party girl’ but this was the one night a year where she just let go to have fun with her best friend. Thayer handed her the shot, in a toast. ”My lady. May we get even drunker and laugh harder this year than all the others.” Jenny laughed with a nod of her head, ”To bad decisions, and best friends” she clinked the shot glass with Thayer’s before downing the shot, the liquid burning slightly in her throat.

After adjusting slightly to the shot she took a step back, and began moving slightly to the beat on her heels. She waggled her eyebrows teasingly at Thayer and then to Drake and Keevan, ”Last one to the dance floor is a rotten egg” before sashaying to the beat to the dance floor, and strangely enough she left a trail of daisies in her wake. They bloomed everytime her feet would touch a new spot in the grass. When Jenny drank, her powers got… a little less controllable.

Cayden’s phone buzzed and he checked the text a small smile appearing on his face.

You already know the answer to that, fuck yeah. We're the most musically inclined, it'll be good as fuck.

He raised his eyes across the bonfire to Lance’s, who happened to be staring directly at him. Cayden just cocked his head slightly to the side a small smirk on his lips. He had always enjoyed Lance’s company and friendship, he’d just wish that he didn’t pick such shitty friends to hang out with. Not to mention Lance had begun picking up the tendencies of the plastics and it was becoming exhausting for Cayden to keep up with.

He was abruptly taken out of his thoughts as someone ran into him, tipping the glass in his hands spilling it. ”Shit!” He said sharply in surprise, raising his eyes to the culprit. Air. He groaned slightly, she probably hadn’t even noticed she bumped into him. Thankfully, his shoes were the only thing tainted by the alcohol. ”Great. What a great start.” He muttered to himself turning to get some water from the table, grabbing a couple napkins. He tried his best to salvage what he could, scrubbing furiously but they were definitely stained.

”To bad decisions, and best friends.”

Thayer's smirk never faltered as Jenny spoke, clinking her glass with his. It was always good to see when she let herself loose on nights like tonight. She seemed to be worrying about something constantly, even though everytime he asked she assured him it was nothing. Thayer had known her long enough to be sure that wasn't true.

That wasn't going to be on his mind tonight, though. As she sauntered off towards the dance floor, making it a competition out of getting their first, his eyes just followed her, happy that whatever usually occupied her mind didn't seem to be home tonight.

Suddenly remembering Keevan's comment, "Why don't you two break tradition for once and go dance as a duo?" that he'd said just before Jenny was out of earshot, he turned and rammed his elbow into his best friend's gut. Luckily, it didn't seem as though she had heard his remark (or at least she had acted as if she didn't). As Thayer turned to scold him, he opened his mouth once more and added, "No dancing as a group for this song, big guy. I want to see hands around waist, with at least two feet of space in between you. Wouldn't want to feel too intimate, would you?" Then he'd shoved further towards the dance floor.

With half a mind to go back, and the other half to do it and just use Keevan's taunting as a motive for action, he hesitated standing in no man's land. He wasn't quite on the outskirts where those who choose to sit back and watch reside but he also isn't yet in the space used for dancing. Rubbing the back of his neck with downcast eyes, a small smile tugged at the corner of Thayer's lips and a breathy chuckle escaped his mouth as he notices the trail of daisies Jenny left in her trot to dance.

What a lightweight.
He thought, rolling his eyes before jogging over to where she's dancing. "No breadcrumbs?" Thayer teased, motioning down to the flowers littered in the grass. "I literally gave you one shot. Unless-" He feigned shock, throwing one hand over his heart. "Did little Jenny pregame? Or are you just that much of a lightweight?" Using the liquid courage he'd already had four cups of, he offered her an uncharacteristic wink, sure that he looked ridiculous doing so.

There was a battle going on in his mind, his want to dance, really dance with Jenny this time mixed with the courage from the alcohol and Keevan's comment about it being his last year, last chance, versus the unknown. The two had been close for years and he'd never picked up on any sign pointing to her having feeling for him as he did for her. It was too soon. He wasn't ready. He couldn't do it. His hesitation was definitely noticeable for anyone watching the two close enough, which he was sure Keevan was.

He had already opened his mouth in case he was able to force the words out, so now he closed it again. It opened again a few seconds later and still he could get no words to come out. Damn it! He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. Usually the alcohol made him braver and more fun, not stupid and mute. Offering her an apologetic look, he shrugged, sighed, and gave up, closing his mouth again.

"You get used to the people. Sort of" Sean sighed and looked out at the crowd, his eyes cutting towards all the familiar faces. That was the problem , he thought, but kept the notion to himself. It was a little bit of a downer though, and really cut a little bit too close to home He and Pepper weren’t that close yet.

"Do you already have a partner for the dance?" Sean looked at Pepper’s friendly face, blinked twice and then looked out at the gathering dancers. He hadn’t even realised they’d already called for the partner dance. I tradition invented for embarrassment and scandal if you asked him. Sean had only participated once, and that with Emerson when he was still in the wooing stage of their relationship. So the answer was easy, no he didn’t have a partner lined up. But neither did he care to.

“Yeah, look, I don’t.”
Sean awkwardly rubbed the back of neck trying to think of the best way to let her down, he knew she was only asking as a friend but that didn’t change the uncomfortableness of it all. “But no. You’re, um, nice, but I’m not dancing.” Apparently, that was the best way of doing it. Sean leaned back and finished off his cup of punch, and decided he needed something stronger. “I’m going to grab a drink. You’re welcome to accompany me to the drink table?”

With that he got to his feet and braved his way through the dancing masses to find the drink table, immediately pouring himself the strongest thing he could find. Next to him he noticed Cayden scrubbing at a stain on his pants. Sighing and despite his brain telling him to ignore it, Sean grabbed a napkin and held it out to the boy with an awkward smile. “Good to see someone’s night is going worse than mine.” He would always hate seeing Cayden getting the shit end of life and he could feel his jaw ticking in irritation at whoever caused the problem.

Air grinned as Drake hugged her back and then went on a rant about the bonfire and the… wood? She just nodded along, and acted as if the whole thing hadn’t just flown straight in one ear and out the other. “Nerd much?”

She laughed and nodded enthusiastically, “The biggest?”
She said with a grin, not meaning her words meanly, since she considered Drake the smartest person she knew. She gave a confused look up towards the flames, trying to make sense of Drake’s rant and learn something new. “I think I get it? Dark wood makes dark fire?”

Then she was distracted by Jenny who raced off to the dance floor with a gorgeous trail of flowers blooming behind her, Thayer not long going after her. “Are those two dating?” Air asked as she bent down to pluck one of the daisies Genevieve has left behind and begun spinning it in her hands. “She’s so amazing, isn’t she? And he takes all those amazing pictures? Wouldn’t they be the cutest couple?” Air and Jenny had always been on friendly terms, but she hardly knew Thayer, only by reputation.

Then she looked out to everyone dancing and smiled at the Keevan and Drake. “How about a dance then?” Air wasn’t the type to hold back, or be daunted by the populars, after all they all treated her well. She grinned at Drake and bumped into his side playfully, “Hasn’t the king of Dance Dance Revolution got a reputation to keep?”

[Sorry if this time skip seems a little bit abrupt, but in the interest of moving things along I'm going to jump further on in the night. If no one has any posts for that, then we'll skip to morning.]

Image

A few hours have passed since the night's festivities began. The music is still playing and people are still drinking, but the night is looking to be on its way to winding down. Those with less energy have started to leave for bed, and thus those who are more inclined towards energy and chatter and whatnot are the ones who tend to remain.

Time: Midnight
Weather: Scattered clouds, comfortable temperature
