background There was a time when Felipe played with toy soldiers and water guns and climbed furniture that he imaged to be great obstacles. At nineteen, those days are just the blurry memories of a boy and his imagination. Son of two hard-working people, an Argentinian mother and Puerto Rican father, Felipe had a good start. His parents had come to the United States from Argentina in search of a better life and, after working low-paying jobs for several years, were able to open a successful restaurant and conceive Felipe. Everything was perfect until Felipe's mother was diagnosed with cancer and passes away. His father quickly fell into drugs, becoming violent and doing anything necessary in order to get money for his addiction. After losing two parents and going through several months of abuse, Felipe was given to the state. He became problematic and was never able to stay with one foster family for too long. When he turned eighteen, he found himself in the streets. He searched for his father, hoping to find support from the man that had once been his hero, but he found nothing more than a closed door. Felipe wandered, skipping from job to job before he learned about military recruitment. Even though the idea didn't thrill him, he would at least be given food and a bed for some time.

The government and the military were quickly collapsing and, with nowhere else to go, Felipe joined his troops as they were reallocated to a base in Detriot, one of the few remaining ones. His group, however, was attacked and he was left alone to continue his journey north.

Years ago, with little order in his life and having no one to lead him, Felipe decided that the only way to survive was to burn himself while the world burned. Felipe became rebellious, not because he wanted to make a loud statement about how much society worked but because he became passive; that was what the world was teaching him and so he would go with the flow. His intuitive nature causes him to follow his emotions and, since they have been derailed, they often end in reckless decisions. In fact, other than from being caught in the act, it is unlikely that Felipe will purposefully draw attention to himself due to his silent demeanor. The fewer words, the better off he is. This, of course, can give Felipe an initial cold aura, but it is impossible to see, after spending time with him, that Felipe cares (even though he doesn't care about a lot). The boy who hugged his mother with all his might during her last day still remains. Maybe all he needs is something to really care about. His time in the military certainly helped him out, at least to an extent. He was taught the meaning of loyalty as he watched many of his colleagues sacrifice themselves for humanity, even for him.
