THE MIND
Likes:
Not an indoor person, Raina loves being outside and getting into the 'thick of things'. Whenever she has free time, which is rare, she enjoys riding her white stallion, Arco. She's not good at anything feminine and hates wearing gowns. She use to be mistaken for a guy and isn't modest for she got use to being around men too much and actually prefers their company than to females. She can't stand anyone who uses their looks to their advantage. She actually worries constantly for the stability of those who follow her. This one reason why she's agreeing to marrying one of the princes, even though she's not looking forward to it.
THE PAST
Adrainna was actually born in another country. However her mother died a year after she was born and being an only child, her father decided to travel to Aramis hoping to provide a better future for him and his 'little' girl. They settled down in the northern border area and things were tough. Her father was a blacksmith and Riana adored her father, always following him around. Unfortunately the area they lived in grew to be more dangerous and one day when Raina was 5 years old, thieves broke into her father's work place, killed him and kidnapped Raina before selling her off. Riana's owners were merciless towards her and made her work in fields with other children. However, she meets two boys there whom she grows close to and one night they run away to another town. However, the children become beggars and have to start stealing if they want to eat. They even start stealing weapons in order to defend themselves from other thieves. Raina's temperament changes drastically through these harsh times. Gone was the happy little girl and in her place becomes a silent and unsmiling lost soul. She really didn't want to be a thief all her life and as she gets older, she starts watching people to see how they succeed in business from the shadows.
When Raina becomes 12, she becomes unsettled by the physical changes she's going through. She and her 'brothers' actually capture another adult female to find out what is happening to her. The woman actually takes pity on Riana and decides to stay with them when they allow her to go. Although Raina is reluctant to allow her to stay, eventually she and the woman become close and Riana begins to see her as the mother she never had. Eventually, the four decide to go back to the ranch where they worked to set everyone free since Riana wants to make them pay for what they did to her.
After observing the manor house for several days, Raina and one of her brothers raid the house and kill their former owners. Raina, having gone into a blind rage when she killed one of them, is horrified by her behavior. This event makes her heart harden and she becomes even more stoic after this. They free the other slaves though and in gratitude the people stay and Raina uses this as a jumping point to help others. She pays all those who work under her and starts looking at the surrounding towns to see if she can help them out. She recruits those who want positive change and stability in the area. Unfortunately, in order to help pay for her growing followers and to help rebuild towns, she started targeting trade routes, but only stole what they needed for her main goal was to be self-sufficient.
During this time of growth, she hired a scholar who taught her how to read, write, and do numbers, something she picked up very quickly. She also learns how to ride a horse too, which quickly becomes a favorite activity. The land she owns starts making a profit and all seemed to be going well until Raina is 16. That is when one large group of bandits who hated order, decided to attack her home. In the battle, Riana gets seriously injured and the woman whom had been a 2nd mother to her was killed. However, Raina and her follows manage to kill them all and she discovers to her surprise that the leaders of these bandits were the same ones who killed her father. One of them was wearing a silver pendent her father made for her too. Filled with icy rage, Raina takes back her pendent, has the men castrated and slowly killed. She breaks down that night with her two brothers, her 2nd and 3rd in command, being the only ones to comfort her. That was the last time she cried. Also the incident happened during a storm and as a result, whenever it storms, she can't sleep and paces back in forth.
Things seemed to get better and Riana's own territory gets so big that it touches the other 'territories' and instead of warring with them, Raina offers peace. However, her previous thieving endeavors have caught the attention of the King of Aramis and that's when the war starts. After suffering heavy loses, Raina reluctantly agrees to offer herself for marriage in order to bring stability to her area.
