"Why leave something to later when you can do it now?"
Jerry is not very intimidating, standing tall at a mere 163cm and weighing 59kg. He's got a pretty young face, and is pretty slim, making him seem smaller than he looks. However, he's wiry, and is stronger than he looks, although not by much. With his dark, almond-shaped eyes and tanned skin, Jerry is very obviously asian. He tends to keep his blackish-brown hair in a slightly choppy hairstyle with bangs that sometimes fall in his eyes and obscures his vision.
He likes to wear normal, comfy clothes such as jeans and hoodies and simple t-shirts. Occasionally he wears a black leather jacket. During work he tends to wear a hat that covers his hair from view, and spectacles that makes his eyes look a bit larger.
Personality:
Jerry is, at most, someone who is mostly known as low-key. He's often stoic, although not as much as he originally seems, and is in fact a bit grumpy and sarcastic. Jerry's more a frowner than a smiler, although not by much. He's normally a calm. thoughtful boy with relatively stable emotions, who feels slowly but deeply. Cautious and reserved, Jerry can take a while to truly warm up to people, if only because he's hesitant to place his trust in them. Once he does however he is willing to give his life to you, although he would definitely scold you for letting it get that far. Jerry believes in tough love - a fact that is often supported by his brutally honest words and pragmatic behaviour. He's not the kind of person who believes in hiding the truth from people - unless you bribe him to, that is. Jerry is very focused on money and the earning of. Jerry is pretty willing to do anything for money, although there are a few lines he won't cross no matter how much you offer him.
Hidden under his carefully constructed gruff and cold behaviour is someone who is caring, kind, if somewhat guarded. He might have somewhat cynical and bitter views on humanity, but mostly he's an antinihilist. Live and let live, why make life any worse than it already is? Shit happens, all that Jazz. No point adding to the equation. For that reason, Jerry tends to leave people alone so long as they leave him alone, and is mostly focused on doing his own thing, often with others present but probably not involved, until he has to get involved. Just because he's an introvert doesn't mean he isn't friendly.
This might make him being in the Black Cat's a puzzle for some people. This is slightly more understandable when you realise that they've pressed his buttons by not looking for the person that harmed his family, and that he's looking for both money and the person who caused the accident in the first place. Jerry is out for revenge.
Jerry might not speak much (And when he does it tends to be what he thinks and gruff), but he is a man of action. Need a light? Here's a lighter. Need to destroy a fence? Here're some wirecutters or, if there's no time, a bomb and a detonator. Want some icecream? Jerry would offer his without thinking even if its halfeaten. Jerry can be a bit thoughtless about how his actions might be perceived, with a sarcastic and brusque tongue that might hurt more than heal, but there is no denying that he cares. There's no denying that he has an oddly pragmatic mind either, with a 'cut the knot' mentality. He's also good with keeping his cool too - while others might be running around screaming their heads off, Jerry will just think about the situation and what he can do and do it without further ado. This extends to his relationships with others as well - Jerry tries to be a rock of calm around people, offering them a hand to remain steady and upright, and a sarcastic jab or two to get them to focus.
One thing to note, however, is his anger. Jerry is often easily irritated, but it takes a long time to make him truly angry since he likes to keep his cool. Jerry tends to adhere to logic and straightforwardness to keep himself less angry, and he tends to be less emotional about things than others, but just because he's lowkey doesn't mean that he doesn't have a fuse. It's an extraordinarily long fuse, but once its light and nothing is done to stomp it out, well, nice knowing you. Jerry is almost tranquil when he's enraged, holding onto the fury with both hands and tapering it into a carefully long point designed to harm the lighter of the fuse and nobody else. He will make you think that death is a blessing by the time he is through, if nobody nudges him back to coherent thought.
Another thing to note is his righteousness. Jerry is a disciplined man, focused and hardworking and determined. While this normally results in forgetting that food and sleep exists and being ridiculously stubborn (denying that he's sick even when he's running a 38degree temperature kind of stubbornness), it also means that he is a very driven man who tends to do his work with meticulous care and never gives up. This also applies to his righteousness - Jerry has a very strong morality. He does things because he believes its the right thing to do. For example - although Jerry would not hesitate to kill someone, he has to be given a legitimate reason to do so and will only shoot if its the last available option left. He won't steal unless its a necessity, and would rather not involve the innocent in his plans since they're not really a part of this world. He absolutely will not involve children in his plans, and any attempts to make him do so or break his moral code would result in him glaring death at you and a few choice words, or maybe even a beatdown.
Talents:
Jerry serves as the medic of the Black Cats, as well as a sharpshooter. He might not be someone suited for the front lines, where melee takes place, but he makes up for it with his medical knowhow and a few other skills, like his ability to jury-rig things together and his knowledge of certain chemicals that can make a big boom, and where to get things.
Aim - Jerry has ridiculously good aim. He's also good with guns, and is pretty well known for his ability to shoot from afar with high accuracy, and his ability to take aim and shoot at near range is almost on par with Andrew, although it'd still take a lot more training if he wants to catch up to Andrew's sheer speed.
Determination - Jerry never gives up. He's also very determined at keeping his cool.
Medic - Jerry knows first aid, and is pretty good at playing doctor. It also means that he knows which points to press in your body to hurt and the easiest way to break an arm. In effect, he's a very precision-based fighting style kind of person. He'll definitely know what to do in a medical emergency anyway.
Loyal - although it might be hard, once you've earned it Jerry will give his life for you. He'll grumble and tell you off for letting it get to that point, but he will sacrifice himself if need be.
Engineering - Jerry is pretty good at creating things or rigging things up, especially if there's duct tape at hand.
Calm - Jerry is pretty unflappable. He's got nerves of steel, and where people might be panicking Jerry will be calmly taking stock of what he has and what he can do and trying to calm the others down a little.
Weaknesses:
Communication - Jerry tends to be very brusque with his words, if he ever talks at all. Combine this with his stoicism and people tend to find it hard to know what he's thinking.
Acting - sneaking up to people and into places he can, withholding the truth he can, but Jerry is not very good at acting like someone he is not. The result tends to be a particularly wooden performance - almost like a robot combined with stutterings and 'uhhh' proclamations.
People - Jerry's bad with people in multiple ways. You could say that he's soft around them - Jerry cares about people underneath all that grumbling of his, and he feels obligated to save them. It's not just because of the Geneva code either - Jerry genuinely cares for people under his care, and if they died under his watch he'd feel bad about it. This doesn't mean he won't harm if he has to, but it also means that killing is, for him, a last option method only to be carried out if there's no other option.
This also applies to people he's close to. Jerry cares for them so much that he keeps them at bay with grumpiness, because he knows his vulnerable around them. He'd be able to function, but he would be devastated if they died, or betrayed him. If he's tasked to kill them he'll definitely give it a shot, but if he succeeds? It'd kill him inside.
Stubborn - He can be particularly stubborn about some things and often refuses to back down even when it might be for the good of the people. He's the kind of person who'd deny that he has a fever even when he can barely stand and the thermometer says 38degrees.
Easily bribed - If you got lots of money at hand, Jerry is your man. There are certain things he can't be bribed for, but you'd be surprise how tempting cold hard cash can be to him.
Strength - Jerry might have a lot of stamina, but he's not strong. His fighting style being precision-based cements that. He's strong enough to withstand recoil from some of the stronger rifles, but it can be pretty easy to overpower him.
Fears:
Running out of money - Jerry is very very money-driven, but with good reason. Running out of money means that he runs out of money to pay the bills for his brothers hospital fee, which would result in his brother's life support being shut down and his friend not being able to pay things off.
Cars - Jerry has a vague fear of cars. His parents died in a car, and he got into a car accident that ended pretty badly for the people he loves. It's not a full blown out fear, and he's able to ride in them, but Jerry would rather much not, and he'll be guarded and edgy around cars if he's around them.
His brother never waking up - Jerry's brother is in a coma. So far, he hasn't woken up yet. Jerry loves his brother, and is very much afraid that he will never wake up again. He's scared of losing people he cares about, which can be used to explain why he's so reserved around others.
"I will find out who they are. And once I do, they will burn."
Jerry was brought up mostly by his brother, Tom. His parents were often pretty busy with little time left to spare, and as a result the two were often left home alone - not that they minded. They made time for their kids and besides, the two brothers were very close and often played together and worked together. Their father was a mechanic, and more often than not the two would play with leftover pieces of junk and tools. Jerry was never quite able to match Tom's sheer genius with making things, but that didn't bother him - after all, his brother was the best human on earth. To Jerry's brother-worshiping eyes, Tom was the best thing next to grilled cheese. Obviously he'd never be able to keep up with his perfect older brother, right?
Well, kind of true. Tom was a savant in hockey and good with sciences, while Jerry was ridiculously good with a rifle and good with accounting. Together, the two held a passion in computers and robotics, which they worked hard on. Jerry might not have been good at expressing himself, but Tom was always capable of translating for him and was always good with people, laughing and often offering them a chance to talk. They just excelled in different fields, that was all. Together, the two worked on increasing their skills, and were nearly inseparable.
When their parents died from a car accident when Jerry was ten and Tom was thirteen, Jerry didn't know what would happen. Their aunt took them in, but it was pretty obvious that she didn't want them there. Sometimes Jerry would catch Tom with bruises, but Tom would never admit anything, although the happy cheerful boy was now more sarcastic and gloomy. Luckily he gained a friend called Kit who helped lighten the pressure, and they became an inseparable trio.
Yeah, Jerry discovered that his brother was being abused when he came in on his aunt hitting Tom with a cane and screeching obscenities, and after that he started getting hit too, but that's a different story. Apparently she didn't have much money to provide for herself even before the kids came and having to provide for the kids wasn't something she was equipped for. The stress combined with grief over losing her sister made her... irrational. She took it out on the kids. As a result, if the brothers wanted money they had to earn it themselves. You could say that this was where Jerry started getting obsessed with money and thrift spending, since he had so little, as well as when he started gaining an interest in learning how to patch up wounds.
Fortunately, Robin managed to help out with providing food, and Tom kept their spirits up by saying that they'd get away someday. Which they did, the second Tom and Robin turned sixteen. They rented an apartment for a song from one of Kit's aunts, shifted in and ran away from The Liu's aunt at the same time, and for a while things were happy.
That was, until the incident happened.
The three of them were driving him one day when somebody slammed into them from behind. They careened off the road and finally landed into a wall, destroying half the car and sending them into serious injury. Tom was unconscious, Robin lost feeling in his legs and had to undergo extensive physical surgery and therapy just to make sure that he could walk again, and Jerry broke an arm and had a skull fracture, waking up with a concussion after three days. Worried, they waited for Tom to wake up, for the perpetrators to be found.
Tom didn't wake up. The police said they'd look into it, but after a while it was obvious that they weren't even trying.
Eventually they placed him with the rest of the coma patients. The medical bills were huge, the coma care even more so. Jerry and Robin could handle the medical bills with some help - they could sell their apartment, Kit could live with his mom and Jerry could work overtime - but the coma care?
That was half a year ago. Half a year ago, Jerry wandered into the dark side, hoping to make money. Half a year ago, he met the Black Cats. And now he is one of them - earning money to keep his brother safe and to let his childhood friend walk again, and to find justice for the people he cares about.
Other:
He knows a few Chinese dialects - Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese.
Looks a lot different when wearing a hat.
His friend Robin was studying to be a nurse, before the accident. Now his career is not... well adviced, since he has yet to be able to regain the ability to walk. Jerry learnt a lot of what he knows about medicine and practical applications of from him.
