a character in “Se7venth: THE RING”, as played by Zensai

Description

Image
~Name: Benjirou O’Connel-Suzuki
~Age:19
~Gender: Male
~Race/Nationality: Half Japanese
~Abilities: Very good runner as well as knowing some martial arts
~Weaknesses: Can be a bit rash and can get a bit scared if occult like things happen
~Description: He has reddish brown hair, gray eyes. He is lightly tanned and has more of his mother’s features than his father’s.
~Equipment: Quarter Staff ((Actually all it is the shaft of a mop he twisted off), Polaroid camera
~Personality: A normal guy who likes looking up urban legends and chatting online. He spends most of the time on his laptop, either goofing off, reading, writing or actually doing work. He runs every day in the morning. He is fun loving and seems cheerful for the most part, he also is known for taking pictures of people with his Polaroid.
~History: He was born in Virginia before his family moved to Winfalls four years ago after his parents got a divorce and his Dad got custody of him. He didn’t really mind too much, but he wishes he has more time to see his mom. His mom used to tell him all these old Japanese urban legends when he was younger and about Spirit photography which sparked his interest into those areas. He found out about the video while chatting with an online buddy who is a professor in the occult.
~Which version of the legend does your char believe in: He believes in Version 2, but does he believe it happened? No, well he thinks it may have been twisted over time. His reason for believing that it is two is a simple one: It reminds him of some of the stories his mom told him.

So begins...

Benjirou, Benji to a few, was on his bed as he listened to his music with his earphones on. His fingers clicked on the keyboard as he IM’d an online buddy of his that went by the handle Dr.Strange. He sat back and waited for his reply as he opened yet another tab on his browser and went to an urban legend site, mainly Japanese Urban legends.

Dr.Strange: It is true that urban legends vary from countries, they also change from person to person. My favorite Urban legend is the Midnight man, have you heard of it?

Benjirou quickly replied his fingers almost seemed to fly across the keyboard.

Zashiki-warashi: The one where you must not be caught by the Midnight Man until it is three am. Yes I have, not going to try it you know just in case. My favorite one is Tek-Tek, my mom told me it when I was younger.

Dr.Strange: I have not heard that one, what is it about?

Zashiki-warashi: Tek Tek or Teke-Teke is an urban legend from Japan about a girl who fell under a train and was cut in half. She took a long time to die and now her ghost roams through Japan, dragging her top half along using her claw-like hands. Every time she moves, she makes a “teke-teke” sound.

There is a story about a young boy who was leaving his school one evening when he heard a noise behind him. Looking back, he saw a beautiful girl sitting at a window. The girl had her arms propped up on the window sill and was just staring out at him. He wondered why she was there, because it was an all-boys school.

When she saw him looking back at her, the girl smiled and hugged herself so that she was holding her elbows. Then suddenly, she leaped out of the window and landed on the ground outside. The boy realized with horror, that she was missing the lower half of her body.

She made her way towards him, clawing along the ground and running on her elbows making a tek-tek-tek-tek-tek sound. The boy was filled with terror and revulsion. He tried to run, but he was frozen to the spot. Within seconds, she was upon him and she took out a scythe and cut him in half, making him into one of her own.

When kids tell this story, they warn each other about Tek-Tek. They say she carries a sharp saw or a scythe, and if she catches you, she’ll cut you in half and you’ll become just like her. She is said to chase children who play at dusk. She is also known as “bata-bata” (again, the sound of it running on its elbows) or “The Girl That Runs On Her Elbows.”

It is also similar to the story of Kuchisake-Onna (the Slit-Mouth Woman) and the story of Kashima Reiko. The American version is called Click Clack.

Dr. Strange: Interesting, sadly I have to go to class. I will talk to you later.

Dr. Strange is offline

Benjirou signed off and closed his laptop as he got up. He scratched his still damp hair and sighed, “Already ran and showered
 don’t have classes today
Might as well wander
” he thought to himself as he yawned and put his laptop in its satchel as well as his Polaroid camera and opened his door and went to the kitchen where his dad was sitting, “Going out, Probably will be at the library or somewhere else taking photos. Contact me on my cell if you need me.” he told him as he left the house, slipping his sneakers on as he did so.

He locked the door behind him and checked his cell. “still no word from mom
hope she calls soon
” he thought to himself as he placed his phone back into his pocket and started walking around the Town of Winfalls, no real destination in his steps. He saw a few college age girls walking and took out his camera walking up to them. “Mind if I take your picture?” he asked them. The girls giggled and nodded as they struck a pose and he quickly snapped one. “Thanks!” he told them as he gently removed the Polaroid photo as he shook it a few times.

The girls waved good bye to him. “well they were nicer than the usual
” he thought to himself and looked at the picture and sighed at it. “Drat
 no spirits
” he muttered as he put the photo in his satchel as he continued his wandering, as he did so a police car whizzed by the siren blaring, “
Huh wonder what that is about
” he pondered as he quickly snapped a picture and shook it a few times, he saw it slowly develop and sighed as nothing abnormal appeared, “Thought so.” He remarked with a shrug, “Though it is a good picture I will keep it.” He commented as he put in his satchel and headed in the general direction of the library. He passed by Pete’s Old-Town Bar and took out his camera once again at the big window there, he liked the way the light was reflecting off of it at this hour and took a few steps back as he snapped a picture of it. He saw people around his age in there
but he never really felt he belonged in there. After all what was the point of going to a bar if you couldn’t drink yet?

Benjirou had been taking pictures of the tavern, not for spirit photography, but just for fun. He liked the way the light was shining off of it. Plus it was a nice old building, if anyone asked he’d just say it was for his photography class. Which wasn’t exactly a lie
he often used some of the pictures he took while wandering for that class. He was a skilled photographer, but he mainly just did it for spirit photography
not that he was successful in that at all. In fact he had no true spirit photography pictures. He put the latest polaroid in his pocket and aiming his camera again, this time through the window. Benjirou started to shake as he slowly lowered the camera as he saw a woman pull out a revolver from a handbag and point it at one of the customers.

“
oh shit
” he whispered, his eyes widen as she turned the gin on herself and pulled the trigger, the sound of the gun was dimmed because of the glass, but he heard it still. His hand flinched making him snapped a picture of the death. He felt like hurling at the scene, out of reflex he put the picture into his satchel with the rest. He didn’t know what to do. “police
right.” He muttered as he took out his phone and dialed nine one one. He glanced behind him and saw people fleeing the scene, and some doing the same as him; hopefully they were calling the cops and not the media. In the four years he had been living here, this was the first time he saw an attempted murder and then a suicide. Though he heard it was on the rise, he just
never believed it, after all Winfalls was such a sleepy town a nice sleepy peaceful town.

When he reached through to the nine one one line he jumped a bit at the voice, "Hi, um yeah there has been a... a shooting I guess it is called? I-I don't know. Anyway someone is dead at Pete's Tavern at Winfalls. W-what? Oh the person with the gun? They are the one who is dead. They shot themselves. Please hurry." he said as he hung up and waited, he knew bettered than to run from the scene.

He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down, though he couldn't seem to stop shaking not even when he held his arms, it was like he was cold, but he knew better than to assume that. It was the shock from seeing what had just happened. "please, hurry up..." he thought to himself, time seemed to crawl on by as he waited for the police to arrive on the scene.

Within a half hour several police vehicles pulled up to the scene, stooping their cars only inches from the curb, one patrol car actuaally went up on the sidewalk, it was placed into parked there, walking around the vehicle to the left the police officer stopped by the front door.

From out of the second car came Detective Paul Ambler, who was in charge of the "Winfalls tragedy" case, as it became known. Stepping into the blood splattered cafe the detective shouted commands.

"Step away from the body Miss."

Then pointing to the waitress. "You too, do not move."

He then called for the other officer to enter and take control of all persons within the incident location. Several other cop cars pulled up outside at that point, each screeching to a stop near those individuals who might be witnesses to the attempted murder/suicide.

Several hours passed before the three eyewitness were allowed to leave the vicinity, though they had been informed that they would be contacted in the next few days to arrange for further questioning at the station.

Benjirou watched as the emergency vehicles arrived on the scene, dodging out of one patrol car that went to park on the sidewalk. His Polaroid camera was still around his neck as he saw a police officer get out of the patrol car and stopping at the door. Another man soon came out; he had seen him on the news when his dad watched it, Detective Ambler. He could hear the commands as he was led to a vehicle a blanket draped on him as he was asked questions. He repeated over and over what he remembered, which to be honest he drew a blank on some of it. For one he forgot that he had taken a picture of the event or of the building. Only of the college girls. He was pretty shaken up after all.

In the middle of the questioning his phone buzzed startling him as he looked at the number, it was his mom. He hung up on them, I mean what would he say to her? ‘Hi mom I just saw someone commit suicide after they tried to shoot someone can I call you back?’ was not a topic he wanted to discuss with his mom, or dad. When they finally told him he could go he only nodded, he was not going to look forward to the next few days, he didn't really want to be 'arranged for further questioning.' He just wanted to go home and well... he wanted this day not to have happened to be honest, well not the entire day, maybe just the event. As he got up to leave a loose photo fell out of his satchel blowing in the wind to land near the crime scene. He chased it as he bent over to pick it up out of habit.

Amy didn't know what to do. She wanted to move, but it seemed like something was keeping her. Suddenly, as the police arrived, she came back to her senses, slightly surprised she hadn't passed out or anything. She seemed to be happy, untill she heard that she wasn't allowed to move. "Seriously? You've got to be kidding me?" She said, as she narrowed her eyes, looking at the officers. One of them seemed awfully familiar, probably someone she could've seen on T.V., but it didn't ring a bell.

She turned around, looking at Rosa. The girl wasn't there. That made Amy surprised, 'Where could she have gone to?' she wondered as she raised an eyebrow, staring at the spot where her friend was. She sighed, 'Well where ever she went, she's probably better than I am now..', Amy muttered silently to herself, then she looked at another girl, which hid under the table. Then, her eyes moved to a boy with a camera. She snarled something under her breath, 'This isn't fair, I wish I would've called in sick today.. Although.. I think I am sick, I'm so selfish it's sickening, a person died, and I'm worrying about myself.. I imagine how that poor girl's family must feel. Actually no, I can't.'

"I don't know why you're questioning me! My back was turned when the bitch offed herself! I didn't see a damn thing until she was already lying on the floor dead!" Baby snapped her eyes blazing with resistance. She shook away form someone who tried to put a blanket on her. "Get that thing off of me! I'm not cold." She turned back to the investigator. "Can I go now-please?" The investigator reluctantly let her go and notified her that arrangements would be made for her to be questioned further. She rolled her eyes and made her way out walking past a girl with red her then bumping into a shaken Asian kid.

She sauntered out into the night her pace quickened, wanting to leave the bar and it's mess behind her as soon as possible. She threw her hair over her shoulder as she idley scrolled through her phone. Baby looked up at where she stopped. The boy's dorm, where Mario used to stay before he moved out to his own apartment. She stared for a moment praying to catch a glimpse of him, attempting to summon old memories to comfort her and wipe away the dead stare of the girl who killed herself. She was brought back to reality from the vibration of her cell phone. The name Rick lit up on the screen. The guy who ditched her. She ignored it stuffing the phone into her pocket and continuing her way back to Viking's hall.

Benjirou had lost one of his precious photo's, having falling from his satchel and blown away by an arrant wind. The photo landed against the base-wall of the tavern so that the image comprised of positive and negative shades was facing out toward the street.

The photo was one of those Benjirou had taken of Pete's tavern prior to the shooting. Upon leaning over to pick up the runaway photo Benjirou noticed something very strange, an aspect of the image which had not revealed itself upon first glance.

The photo was that of the bare frontage of the tavern, a clean and clear shot of the front window, although the sun had prevented him from capturing any detail within the tavern, the bright sun which struck the reflective surface had produced a back flash effect.

Though the sun had blotted out all detail Benjirou could see a vague outline within the white flash-A dark and twisted human form fused within the glare.

--------------------------------------------------------------

As Amy stood and glared at the young guy standing outside the tavern, her glance shifted briefly to the eerie girl standing directly behind the Asian youth. Her black hair covered the right side of her pale face, the opposite side was darkened.

The momentary distraction was corrected by a sudden clinking of glass as one of the police officers bumped a table with his leg.

Looking back Amy immediately noticed the girl's absence.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alisha was passing an abandoned building on Kaiser Ave when she caught a brief glimpse of someone standing within the crumbling frame of its front door, the stranger seemed out of place somehow, particularly in that part of town.

The person seemed to be that of a young girl with unusually long black hair, all of which had been pulled over her front, thereby blocking out all features, save for the general outline of her body.

Okiku and her high school sweetheart Taketsune had both come from middle class families and were blessed with every comfort in terms of their education and upbringing. Okiku had taken the position of personal nurse for the wealthy American business man Albert Cossack. Although they had come from good backgrounds the financial pressures which all newly married couples experience began to weigh down on them.

The couple were totally dedicated to one another and had made a pack that nothing would separate them once they were betrothed. Tomonosuke, Cossacks business partner was a greedy man who felt that he had not been given the respect that he deserved. Albert's intention was to hand over his business to his younger brother, Anthony; whom he barely spoke to, was the final straw.

Tomonosuke was outraged.

Tomonosuke' outrage could have found its match in the anger of Brenda Allers, the girlfriend of Johnathan Carter, a limo driver for a well-to-do Connecticut family. For several months prior to the murder of Jane Haggard, Johnathan had been receiving presents and love-notes from a secret admirer, Brenda knew that the girl sending the letters and gifts was Jane.

The situation got worse after Jane started showing up at Johnathan's place of business, it gone too far and Brenda set out to entrap her rival, while simultaneously testing Johnathan's devotion to her, she too being extremely obsessive.

Benjirou stumbled as an irate looking girl who looked a few years older than him bumped into him. A light frown on his face as he again went to pick up his picture hoping no one bumped into him or stepped on it. He could hear the police and other talking as he knelt down and picked up the picture.

The picture wasn’t the best he had taken; it was the bare front of Pete’s tavern mainly of the front window. Nothing much to see, and the sun had of course had caused a back flash. As he looked closer though he thought he saw
something in the bright white flash. A figure in the flash, but how?

He started shaking as he looked closer at it, the figure looked
wrong twisted, evil and dark. Like something from a horror movie or gave, and that is just the feeling he got from that vague outline! “
An over exposure or jam in the camera?” he muttered as he shook his head at the last one. He kept his camera in perfect condition checking it daily. “Spirit
 Did
Did I actually take a spirit picture?” he thought to himself with a slight shiver. He slowly stood to his feet as he continued to study the picture, lost in thought.

(OOC: its actually not a little girl ;) But leave it anyway, I have an idea)

In stark contrast to Benjirou' reaction to the spirit-photo, Baby had managed to rationalize the strange sight before her eyes as nothing more then a misplaced little girl.

Her hopes for a simple explanation were suddenly dashed as a most terrifying and strange thing happened.

As Baby stood there awaiting an answer to her question of concern, the dark figure of what seemed to be a little girl began to grow and stretched into the shape of a much older women.

___________________________________________

Benjirou was distracted by something strange in the same window where he had witnessed the girls death. The black shape was definitely appearing as a reflective upon the glass surface, but it seemed to be standing right where the girl had been when she shot herself.

The figure had its head facing the floor obscuring a possible full view of her facial features, all he could determine from this seconds long visage was a definite female shape.

The creepy black figure which was devoid of all distinguishing detail and physiological highlights pointed to a specific section of the window, at which time the glass fogged and then the forming of an address suddenly appeared within the smoked area.

The address which appeared was in fact directly across the street from where Benjirou was currently standing-The post office.

It was then that a disembodied voice spoke to him. "P.O. Box 245"

A certain video tape patiently awaited discovery.

Benjirou blinked as he put away the picture, stumbling back at the black shape in the window. “W-what in the world?!” he thought to himself as he stared at it shivering, something was not right about this. Not right at all. He wanted to run, but he couldn’t
it was like he was stuck to the spot. He couldn’t move or avert his eyes! Then an address appeared like someone had written on a window on a rainy day, it was to the post office. His heart already pounding in his chest he nearly jumped when he heard that voice speak to him. It
wasn’t pleasant to put it simply.

And then he could move. He sighed in relief as he looked behind him towards the post office. “
Curiousity killed the cat, Benjirou
” he muttered to himself, but something his mom told him after that saying got him to walk towards it. “But knowledge brought him back.” He entered the post office as he looked around for the number, he doubt he’d be able to find it, or open the box if it was locked. So there would be no harm
 right?

A wall of metal, hinged boxes awaited Benjirou, he hoped that he would be unable to locate the correct one, or be able to open it if indeed he could. As he examined hundreds of post boxes it seemed he would get his wish. It didn't take long to locate the correct box, but as he had expected it was locked and he had no key.

Benjirou breathed a sigh of relief as he stood before the metal wall. To his left there appeared a black shadow-form, it was the same apparition that Benjirou and the others had seen minutes before. This time however the shadow was blocked from Benjirou's view, slowly it approached him, the shadow flickered like a television set on the brink of blowing out.

Closes and closer it came until finally it was upon Benjirou, standing right next to him its face inches from his, but with its head still lowered and covered by long black hair.

Slowly it began to take on a more solid form, its head tilting with sadistic slow intent until it finally settled, it was now starring at Benjirou. Strands of its thick black hair gained sentience and separated to reveal the pure white skin of a faceless spirit. Just then P.O. Box 245 popped open and revealed its contents

-The cursed VHS cassette.

Benjirou started to relax when he saw it would not open. “Heheheh, it’s locked.” He said as he let out a sigh of relief rubbing the back of his head. “Time for me to go then.” He said as he turned, he saw something to the left, the shadow figure. He backed up, his heart pounding in his chest as it came closer, not walking though
more like a skip on a dvd player. He couldn’t move! He wanted to run, to get away from this thing. But
 He. Couldn’t. MOVE!

His eyes were wide with fear when it stood next to him, a mass of black hair covering it’s face as it turned it head slowly, sadistically slow as it
stared at him. He started trembling. The hair seemed to have a life of it’s own as it parted to show him their face, well rather the lack of one on their almost luminescent white skin.

A sound finally broke the spell allowing him to turn to P.O. Box as it popped open with a creak of metal. He looked inside as he saw the object in there. A VHS tape. “
Oh hell.” He muttered, his hands reacted before his mind could as he grabbed it and put it in his satchel before closing the P.O. Box.

Benjirou looked around the post office and then back at the cassette in his hands as he shuddered. He didn’t really know what else to do here, so he left the building calmly, trying to not look suspicious. As he exited his phone once again buzzed, nearly making him jump out of his skin. He quickly opened it as he saw it was from his mom. “Right! I forgot to call her back!” he thought to himself. “Moshmosh! Sorry mom, I was
taking a test in class.” He lied not wanting to worry her, “Anyway why did you call?” he asked her. “Benji
I wanted to tell you that I am moving back to Japan.” A soft voice answered him. “What? I thought you loved Virginia!” he proclaimed, “I do
and I will visit you, but
it holds too many painful memories.” She explained.

He was silent for a while. “I understand, thanks for telling me. Hey maybe I can visit you there.” He supplied as he bumped into the girl from before the phone falling out of his hand as he stumbled back. "S-sorry!" he prclaimed to her as he bent over to pick up the phone. He heard his mom asking if everything was all right in Japanese. "Yes it is fine mom just bumped into someone. I gotta go. Love you." he told her in Japanese as he looked at the girl. "Again I am sorry... been scatterbrained..." he muttered as he looked at the ground.

"Hey! Watch it!" She snapped harshly as the boy bumped into her nearly, knocking her off of her feet. She pivoted on her feet to face him, but her assault was halted by the shock of the person her eyes met. "You," the word hung in the air for a moment as she recollected his face. An awkward asian boy with light brown hair. "You were there today...at the pub." Her mouth went dry as she recalled the event. The boom of the gun shot echoed in the back of her mind. She forced her feelings of anxiety down as well as her thoughts.

She looked passed him to the darkened post office, then back to him. He appeared shaken, like his nerves were out of whack."So, is breaking into Post Offices after witnessing a suicide, like a thing you do or something?"

Benjirou flinched as he was snapped at, he wasn’t good at these type of situations. “Sorry I was on the phone talking to my mom.” He explained as he saw the girl. “You
” he whispered as he remembered her from earlier, though they hadn’t really met
she just had bumped into him at the scene. Seems he just returned the favor. He nodded his head, “Y-yeah
should have just gone to take pictures of the library
” he muttered as he rubbed his arm. “You were too
though that is kinda obvious from what you just said
” he added.

He looked at the post office. “I-I didn’t break in! It was open
 so I just
I guess I entered. Look you wouldn’t believe me if I told you why. I hardly believe it myself.” He muttered as he shuddered at remembering the figure the voice telling him to come here and
it looking at him, staring at him with malice. “It had no face
” he thought to himself with a shudder as he clutched the strap of his camera. “Has
anything weird happened to you, I-I mean after the pub.” He suddenly asked before he could stop himself. He shook his head, “N-never mind
stupid question.” He muttered as he looked to the ground.

Alisha listened to his explanation. She raised an eyebrow as she began to judge him, Oh God, don't tell me I'm out here alone with a weirdo. She glanced up and down the street. Empty. She sighed. "Yeah, it was just open. I'm sure." She responded sarcastically. Why was she still out here talking to him? She prepared to make an excuse to leave,"I gotta get going. I-" when he asked:

"“Has
anything weird happened to you, I-I mean after the pub.”

Alisha paused. Her feet were glued to the cement as the muscles in her body tensed. Her face was a composed masked, despite the emotions his question had reawakened inside her. What she saw earlier...the girl...that-that thing...it was nothing. She had just imagined it. She was sure. Her brain screamed for her to walk away. That her following response would send her down a path she would be better off not venturing.

But that wasn't her.

Doing what she shouldn't was her innate nature. "Why?"

Benjirou could tell she didn’t believe him
hearing the oozing sarcasm, but he couldn’t really blame her. He watched as she glanced down the street, “great she probably thinks I am some freak
” he thought to himself. His question though seemed to make her stay when she was about to leave. Maybe
maybe he wasn’t the only one in this mess. He probably was, but
it was a small hope. Then she asked why as he bit the inside of his cheek slightly. Could he even trust her? Would she believe him or just think he was crazy? “
Just, maybe it was the event
but I saw a figure
with black hair, very creepy
” he muttered. “I
I am sorry you probably think I am crazy
” he muttered as he clutched his the strap of his bag. “look um if ya want
I-I’ll just go.” He told her softly.
