NICKNAMES: She prefers Viv over her full name, as most people call her that. Her boyfriend uses Vivi, which she doesn’t like but can’t get him to stop
AGE: 22
SEXUALITY: Questioning, currently heterosexual
GENDER: Female
HOMETOWN:Jackson, Mississippi
OCCUPATION:Dancer/Waitress
HEX CODE: #8B9EEA
FACE CLAIM: Aiyana Lewis
HEIGHT: 5'4"
EYE COLOR: Dark Brown
HAIR COLOR: Black
STYLE: Viv has always liked a more casual style. She’d much rather pull on a comfy pair of pants and a crop top than actually try to dress up. She tries to come off as effortlessly stylish but sometimes can’t be bothered. She usually keeps a tomboy flair to her clothing, but doesn’t mind dressing feminine to flatter her figure. Viv is dancing most of her days anyway, so her practice clothes are what she wears most of the time. It takes a special occasion for her to dress up. Most of her time is spent trying new hairstyles and makeup trends, which she would much rather invest the time into. She never misses an eyebrow appointment.
PERSONALITY: The “New York” Viv, as she would put it, is a very outgoing and bubbly person. She likes to have all eyes on her, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s positive attention or negative attention. She’s had to pull herself completely out of her shell to make it in the New York dance world, which has changed her from the shy church girl to the person she is now. She’s never met a stranger, and uses her Southern charm as much as she can. She can come off as cocky at times, but she always means well. Viv tries to see the good in everyone and would rather treat someone nicely. She has gotten herself into a few fights before, but nothing she cannot handle.
There is a big part of herself she hides away with this big personality. Although she was shy, she was still kind and sweet, spending most of her time and thoughts into dance. She also thought about women quite often and what it would be like to be romantic with a woman. She has a lot of internalized homophobia thanks to her entire family, and was never really given the chance to explore that. She doesn’t want to lose the people she cares about again, so she’s forced herself to stay with Ray than take the chance of being disowned again. Truthfully, she wants to find someone she can be happy with and is a hopeless romantic, which makes the state of her relationship quite ironic. She won’t give herself the chance to find love at the excuse of she won’t get hurt again either. There’s a whole part of herself she doesn’t even know as she’s tucked it away and won’t explore it.
HISTORY: Viv was the last child of a Southern preacher and his wife, the only daughter after three older brothers. Her parents, while loving, were very strict and very conservative, especially with their daughter. She was expected to be at church almost every day of the week, and while her brothers were away with sports and school activities, she was denied pursuing her creative outlets. Except for church choir and dance.
Dance became her escape and she looked forward to her practices every day. Viv finally convinced her parents to let her join a private dance company instead of dancing at school, and her days became filled with dancing lessons and competitions and recitals. She was still expected to be at church as much as possible, but now she was able to pursue her passion. She spent nights coming back from competitions doing her homework to keep her grades up and make sure her parents had no reason to take away her dancing. She had a few school friends but the people she was closest with were her teammates at the dance company. They all rooted for each other and wanted to become the best dancers in the nation.
As high school came around, her dance instructor wanted her to move to online school and pursue a career with a prestigious dance company. This was when Viv started to clash with her parents. They wanted her to “stop focusing so much on a hobby” and “think about her future”. They didn’t believe dancing could be a successful career path for her and refused to let her work with the company that was in New York. She begged her dance instructor to do something but she was still too young and needed parental consent. Viv started to act out, letting her grades drop and getting in with the wrong crowd. Her only solace was dance, which was taken away when her friends started to move away to pursue dancing more and she was left alone. Then her grades dropped so low she was taken out of the company.
Viv didn’t have anyone but her new group of friends to fall back on, who didn’t really care whether she was there or not. Except Laura. She was Viv’s true friend, and they spent a lot of their time together during Viv’s last few months at home. They were inseparable, and Viv almost considered staying home for her. It was when Laura decided to kiss Viv at a family get together Viv had invited her to that everything fell apart.
Viv wasn’t welcome at home anymore, and decided to move with another friend, Ray, up to New York. He’d had a crush on her for years, and she convinced herself that she liked him too, if only to get Laura out of her mind. She became very dependent on him, as he was the only person she knew in New York. They worked at the same restaurant, him as a bartender and her as a waitress. She worked on getting her dancing skills back up to par, and once she joined the dance company, she decided to move closer and got a place with a girl looking for a roommate at the time. All the feelings and confusion she had felt with Laura suddenly resurfaced with this girl Georgie, and she has kept them hidden because she’s always been taught that those feelings weren’t okay to have for other women.
