Name:Rie
Age: 17 (In appearance)
Sex: Female
Your Job: Waitress
Other worldly ethnicity: Huldra
Description:
Rie is a Huldra - a hollow backed otherworldly being with a cowās tail. She is most commonly wearing a white blouse over a longer black skirt. Her hair is long and blond, flowing to the small of her non-existent back, and she wears a small crown of flowers as her only accessory. Her shoes are normally sandals, although when she is serving a customer, she usually changes into shiny black dress shoes. Her eyes are a bright blue, but theyāre frequently turned away ā not because of shyness, but because of the weaknesses inherent of her own ethnicity. When a customer gets too close and cuts through her glamour, her bright blue eyes fade to a paler green, and her hair loses her shine. As well, her face loses its otherworldly aura, and becomes plainer. Cutting through the glamor usually happens when she has eye contact with someone within a meter distance.
This glamour that surrounds her gives her the ability to look attractive to others, but strangely enough, it still works when she is viewing her own reflection. She has no control over what she looks like, but as it seems, she's quite happy with it already. It cannot be removed permanently through any means, however. Due to her transformation as a Huldra, she can also hide in smaller crevices than usual due to her hollow back. Not only that, but she has also become stronger than normal humans, allowing her to carry more orders at a time, but due to that, she will be slower than others. She can whip people around the ears with her cow's tail, causing them to fall deaf for a short amount of time - but itās not long enough to work on herself. She is also abnormally lucky - most learn never to gamble with her unless they're willing to cheat *cough* Gwen *cough*.
Personality:
As a employee of Brittle, she is slightly bored with the proceedings. Sheās seen thousands of different vampires, hundreds of kitsunes, and more than enough of the rarer types well. Thereās nothing else that has the ability to catch her attention for very long - well, to the best of her knowledge. She is so boredā¦ in fact, things that used to make herself amused, like watching the spiritsā fingers stick to the door due to the honey she had recently slathered on the unfortunate being only causes her a slight smile, before she sinks back into her boredom. Still, she continues to do her pranks, as a little fun is better than none at all.
To deal with this crippling boredom, she also has moreā¦ mischievous tendencies. Rie finds it amusing to interpret customersā and even other fellow workersā orders and instructions in strange ways - much to the irritation of everyone involved. A glass of bloodied wine will become a looking glass created solely of the red liquid, spirits with honey will make her slather the unsuspecting 'spirit' (otherworldly beings) with honey from head to toe, and a simple order of her to draw water from the well will end up in a picture being drawn of something blue...
The one person who she would never dare to fool in such a way would be Brittle himself. The enigmatic owner that has both created her and owns her completelyā¦ he is both feared and obeyed. But that is a given after all.
Sheās gotten used to the constant necessity to be gracious to the customers. In public view, her eyes are bright and lively, and she walks with a certain grace, ignoring the bustle and the crowd around her. She always has a smile ready for any customer that visits the Brittle House - no matter what she thinks of them inside. Rieās gotten used to covering up her more fiery personality that very little of her emotions actually show up on the happy mask she calls her waitress self. This is a persona that she adopts for the good of the customers, but with everyone else, her real self shines through.
In private, she loses the mask of joy and allows her boredom to shine through. In this phase, she becomes more blunt with her words, and becomes quieter. Also, her distaste towards vampires becomes slightly more expressed - "vampire's play" and "common vampire", owing to the large population of vampire workers.
In this state, she is also quick to take offense at minor insults, so the huldra can be moved to anger quickly, usually using violence against the one who caused it. Her strength also makes this far more enjoyable in her opinion - although they can be dodged should the opponent know of her desire due to her lesser agility. She is not quite kind to others, preferring to leave them alone, but she make an exception to this to help other waiters in pulling pranks on the customers.
Fears:
Fire ā Rie will immediately recoil away from fire, giving it a wide berth as she works. At night, whenever she wakes in a sweat, itās usually due to this occurrence. Sheās also scared of will oā the wisps, staying as far away from them as possible. The reason behind this is actually she's afraid of the heat that fire produces, but this phobia has spread to other glowing objects as well. Fire destroys forests, which she views as part of herā¦ in some way.
Children under the age of three - Those horrible children scare her, as she sees them as annoying beings that will take every chance they have to ruin her fragile balance and play with her tail. Strangely enough, the cuter they look, the worse she reacts to them. She fears them because she believes that their innocence will cause them to do things that will hurt others that they don't understand.
Dislikes:
Comments about her tail ā Be it positive or negative, Rie takes it as an offense when someone refers to her tail. This leads her to quickly swish her tail out of the way when brushing up against others. When itās a customer, she will try to bear it, but if itās another waiter, she will confront them immediately.
People seeing through her glamour ā Rie views her glamour as an integral part of her appearance and will thus, dislike it whenever someone sees the plainer her that hides under it. When asked to do so by a customer (she canāt very well say no), sheāll quickly glance at them before looking away again.
Blood ā The smell of blood makes her dizzy, but Rie will try to hide her discomfort. When sheās asked to serve blood to others, sheāll make sure to hold her nose. After a few minutes, it will start to affect her thinking, so sheāll start acting strangely - as though drunk on alcohol. Itāll cause her thinking process to be disjointed, and if the smellās too strong, sheāll faint. Strangely enough, this can be negated through the use of alcoholā¦ although too much of that will start to disturb her thinking process, and by plugging her nose. She prefers the use of a clothespin when having to be in the presence of blood for a long time, and therefore, carries it around frequently.
Boredom - From one that has been working in the Brittle House for longer than she would have liked, life is almost an unbearable occurrence. Sheāll do anything to break up the monotonyā¦ but what is there to do?
Dreams:
Rie dreams of one day where she will be able to lose her tail - legends about Huldras state that with true love, they become normal humans again. Without knowing if this will be true, even for those created by Brittle, she proceeds to dream about the fateful day.
Not only that, but she wants to find the one flower that will match her personality and face perfectly. Roses are too shallow, daisies - too common, and sunflowers are far too bright to survive in her darkened world. But because she really cannot leave the Brittle House, she has to get second-hand information from the customers - but most of the time, Ren.
History/Other:
Rie had spent the beginning of her life in a classic, middle-class family. Her father worked for some company, her mother stayed at home, and she went to school each day down the street. Her friends all had similar lives to her - playing at each otherās houses every week, practicing playing the violin, and getting birthday presents every year.
But when her father lost his job, things went downhill from there. They moved into a poorer place in town - a part of town where the only thing on most of the inhabitants' minds was survival. Both parents unable to find a job, they remained at home every day, while sending Rie to a public school. One day when she was at school, a fight between rival gangs caused a fire through her neighborhood, effectively burning down her house as well. It was here that her parents perished. As she was sent to an orphanage, an overheard conversation between two policemen has haunted her for the rest of her life. "... Our witness saw a small, young boy - who gave a chilling grin. He must have been no more than three years of age."
She was shuffled to orphanage after orphanage before finally being 'adopted' by Brittle. Becoming into a Huldra at this point, she lost her back and gained a tail in the process - not quite a positive change in her views. But like all the other waiters, she has changed to adapt. Knowing that there was nothing that would change the situation, she decided to take the best of the events that had brought her to this. Seeing the waiters before her coping so well, she vowed to become used to life as a supernatural being. Observing the playful tricks they had pulled on the customers, she began to mimic them, putting her own twist on the proceedings.
This mimicry has taken her to where she is now ā bored out her wits and completely comfortable with the supernatural world she found herself in.
