Description

Description: In his normal form, Zurich is a slender and feminine boy. Standing proudly at 5 ft 8, he has the tan and rough skin of a farmer boy, familiar with all the hard work and there're quite many scars on his back though he's carefully hiding it behind his high collar, long-sleeves gray-green t-shirt. He let his hair grow long so he can tie it into a high pony tail. His lips are juicy and it gives him a cute look whenever he pouts - with his cheeks puff and his lips set into a pouty expression. His eyes are another different story. They are dulled gray and there's always a shadow in them no matter what angles everyone's looking at. His voice is low as well as scratchy. His smiles are always somewhat strained and forced while frowning and pouting come very naturally to him. He hides himself very carefully in this form. With a long gray t-shirt and pants with matching color, Zurich makes sure that no one can be able to see through his layer of clothes and study what's beneath it. He also wears a blue apron whenever he's working which, in everyone's mind, makes him look even more like a housewife...but don't you ever say that out loud in front of his face or he might just send you a kiss with his fist.

Name: Zurich Parkinson

Age: 17
Sex: Male

I Otherwordly changed into a: Veela

In his veela form, Zurich is a very beautiful albeit slightly feminine boy. His height is still the same however, his body becomes more well-tone and his skin will turn paler as well as smoother and cooler. All of his scars will disappear, leaving him with a perfect body that everyone, from guys to girls, wants to stare at. However, the most significant change are his face and hair. His hair turns from black to a pure white color, just like the snow in September nights. It will become very soft, silky and have a strange silver light whenever the moonlight touches it. His ears become pointier and almost-elf-like. His face becomes sharper and more elegant while his eyes turns from dull gray...to emerald - the most beautiful shade of emerald - bright and clear. His eyes have a very gentle, playful and kind glint mixing up with some lustful desires. His smiles are bright and they lit up his entire face unlike his human's emotionless smiles. His voice changes with his form as well. It turns higher and more like the sound of a bell. It can sooth a person or send chills to their spines depends on the situations. His clothes mostly consist of a long pale yellow silk coat with no shirt (leaving him with his bare chest) and a pair of white silk pants. On his neck is a strange necklace with a crystal stone and on his wrists are several bracelets with various colors.

Veela is a type of creature that can seduce people. In this form, Zurich has the same ability as any other veela - seduction. However, due to his past, Zurich never ever wants to use this ability though it's just his nature to turn more lustful in this state. He craves for physical touches, praises and at the same time, trying to fight his urges with his mind in order to stay away from others as much as possible. His veela form doesn't act out of character...much. It's true that he will probably turn into a 'whore', his personality doesn't change that much, aside from the fact that he will be more cheerful and lustful...he's still very offended if someone mistakes him for a girl, he still loves cooking and he still loves spending time alone or watching and protecting his family from a safe distance.

Personality: "Why do you want to know so much about me?...I don't want you to know about me...you might hurt me...who knows...you might betray me...g-get away from me..."

First of all, Zurich isn't a cheerful boy...maybe he used to be cheerful...but not anymore...He's quiet and dark, always prefers to stand in a corner and listens to others, rarely offers his opinions to anyone even if they ask him directly. He doesn't like to make friends and is always afraid that he will be betrayed by the ones he calls friends. He hates having human contacts and he's not even comfortable when others hug him let alone he makes some kinds of contacts by himself. Zurich, however, is a very good listener which is mainly because he's so quiet that people can go and talk about stuffs to him without needing to fear he will go and tell someone else. He lurks in a corner, appears when you don't expect him and when you need someone to talk to...although it will be the day when hell freezes over that he admits he cares for other orphans...

Another special trait of Zurich is that...despite his dark and quiet nature, Zurich is...dreamy. He dreams of becoming a writer and writes his own book...He loves writing and it is one of the thing that can calm him down when he's having a panic attack. He has a very large...imagination and likes to let his imagination run wild...and so, Zurich is a very good...if not excellent storyteller...of course, he never wants to use this ability in front of the others in fear that they might laugh at him or do something worse to him but to little children, children that are younger than 7, he's very opened and he can tell them all sorts of stories he thinks of. He believes children are innocent and therefore, he treats them with such gentleness that he won't show toward others that are older than 10 even if someone forces him to do it.

To the others beside the young children, Zurich is slightly sarcastic and bitter, having to grow up too fast tends to do that to people...he's envy with everyone who has managed to find their love and fulfilled their dreams and he gets slightly snappish if one pushes him too far. However, most of the time, Zurich will just be the standard loner, quiet, observant and dark...This is mainly because he fears that getting closed to others will hurt him in the end and he's shy...but mostly, he just...doesn't know how to act when he's near the others.

So...is Zurich kind then? He must be cruel, right? No, you are incorrect...Cruel is never his nature...in fact, Zurich, the boy that's forced to grow up too soon and seen the dark side of the world too early, has never lost his kindness...it's just hidden far away...in the bottom of his heart...It is not for show and he doesn't show the kindness to anyone else and so, everyone believes he's a bastard. He helps people in secret...often claims that if one helps people and let them know...it isn't called helping...it's called giving debts...and he hates debts. He secretly helps people in the dark, never once tells them that it is he who does that...I guess, Zurich just loves the light that shines on a person's face when they are helped...

Fears: "Huh? My fears?"

-Unannounced touches: Zurich is afraid, no scratch that...he's terrified of unwanted touches...he hates and fears these touches, prefers to just turn around and run away from the person who has touched him...In other words, Zurich can't stand being touched...

-Enclosed space: Just like how Zurich is afraid of being touched, he's scared of enclosed space such as the closets or the cupboards...he never ever gets inside those places and whenever he goes in there, he finds himself hard to breath and might have a panic attack if he stays there for too long.

-His past: Zurich doesn't want anyone to know about his past...ever. Even to the other orphans, he's silent about his past, never shares it with anyone else, too afraid what they will do if they know the whole story. He becomes darker...and even more violent whenever his past is mentioned and might snap at anyone who's unlucky enough to be on his way.

-His veela self: Zurich doesn't exactly fear his counterpart...well, maybe he does slightly...okay, fine...he's afraid of his other self because...he doesn't understand 'him'. While Zurich himself will probably run away as fast as he can when someone tries to touch him, his other self craves for it, lives for the touches...lives for the praises. It makes Zurich horrified...how can he be such a whore? How can he love 'those kinds of touches'?

Dreams:"My dreams?...I dream of..."

-Becoming the world's greatest writer: Despite the fact that he's quite cold and distance, Zurich always dreams of becoming a famous writer. He thinks that writing is a great way to reduce stress and he loves writing because it gives him freedom.

-Finding true love: "Yeah...finding true love...I know it sounds clichƩ...but believe me...that's my dream...I wish to find love in someone who can understand me and be there for me when I need...It doesn't matter if it's a girl or a boy...I'll still be happy..."

History: "...there is no need for you to know about my past..."

It doesn't need to take a genius to figure out what kinds of past Zurich has bases on his reactions to human contacts and his reluctance to become attached to another being. He was sexually and physically abused in the past...His past was not a happy story...at least, his past was not a happy story until his Mother died. Zurich was born on a cold winter night in a poor village near the city...His parents were both very poor and couldn't afford to go to the hospital and therefore, because of the poor conditions...Zurich had almost died...luckily, like a miracle, the boy survived...to the joy of the newly wed couple. He grew up in the love of his parents and was a very loving boy, cheerful and kind to anyone. He took after his Mother in appearance and he let his hair grow long. He didn't mind being mistaken for a girl and could wave it off and laugh as if nothing had happened. He always knew he looked kinda...girly anyway...so why bothered? It was a very happy life...every morning, his Mother and Father would go to the farm while leaving little Zurich at home to do his homework or playing with his friends...

However, no happiness lasted forever...his happiness was shattered at the age of 6...In that cruel winter, his Mother, who already had a very bad health, succumbed to a deadly illness, leaving his Father and him...Never had Zurich cried so hard before...he had utterly heartbroken...His perfect little world had disappeared in one night...After that, life could never be the same again. His Father began to notice that he looked a lot like his Mother...It started with touching weird places...to hugging...to other things...The young boy Zurich, even if he was just 6, had realized something was wrong with his Father but before he knew it, he had been...raped...by the monster with his Father's face...It happened for years...and Zurich couldn't tell anyone, couldn't even contact anyone...his heaven became his living hell as everyday the same thing would happen again and again...He would either be beaten...or raped...depended on his Father's mood...His personality changed dramatically...from a cheerful boy to a dark child that was forced to grow up too soon...His living hell ended when he was 10...the monster had been killed....by its own mistake. Zurich's Father was killed in an accident...he fell into the river and was never seen again. What about little Zurich? Well, obviously, Zurich had to go to an orphanage...and now, suddenly, Zurich was adopted by a man named Brittle...it left Zurich with many, many doubts...would history repeat itself? or would Zurich have the happiness he surely deserves? And so...his journey begins...

Zurich Parkinson

Zurich sighed heavily as he leaned against the window, looking at the scene around him on his seat in the train. He had purposely chosen the seat where no one could see him or notice him...he didn't want them to take notice of him...They would soon to be his new...housemates, the ones he would have to live together in the same house. The mere thought of living together with others made him shiver in fear...what if they were...were like his Father...what if they bullied him, hit him, make him do...things? Shivers ran down Zurich's spine as he depressedly hugged himself tighter in hope of protecting himself better...what if...that was the question Zurich disliked the most...for it left him with so many doubts...it left him...vulnerable. His dull gray eyes shifted slightly as he looked at the river they had just ran past. It was beautiful but sad...His fingers twitched slightly as he sent a look at his backpack, his notebook was carefully hidden. Suddenly, he had the urge to write something. Restraining himself from doing so, Zurich reminded himself that he was just minutes away from coming to the Brittle House and if he wrote, he would surely forget about everything and it was dangerous...very dangerous if someone saw him, they might harm him. Biting his bottom lip as he made up his mind, Zurich folded his hands neatly in his lap and stared at the backpack, his mind was in a turmoil...He really, really wished he could have a family but...but he was afraid, he feared that fate hated him...he feared he would be disappointed. He feared many things...Zurich flinched in surprised as the train stopped and for a moment, his mind couldn't tell where he was seeing that he just stopped in the middle of no where. With another heavy sigh, the teenager held his backpack and walked out of the cabin, not eager to meet everyone...The nearer he came to the door, the more afraid he would become. The 'what if' question plagued in his mind like a claw, tearing and cutting his mind, his chest and his heart...The doubts made him feel like a child, waiting for his punishment...He took a deep breath and walked out of the train.

He spotted several people - his housemates as they, just like him, were confused by the Brittle House's appearance...It looked like it had been abandoned...how could this place be the right place? Had he been abandoned, too? Just like the boys and girls in front of him? He didn't go up and talk to any of them...he didn't dare and didn't want to make friends...they would end up hurting him anyway...Taking another deep breath as some of them began to walk to the house and examined it, Zurich gathered his courage and walked inside as well. Gazing at other teens, Zurich silently observed the house. Everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, the mold appeared everywhere and the furniture was not in the best shape, either. Some chairs were broken and the table had a missing leg...all in all, from the look of it, no one had been here for at least a year...How could this place be the Brittle House? Their new home? Zurich placed a hand on his stomach as he suddenly got a strange feeling. Was it anger, disappointment or sadness? His eyes set on a single individual as she seemed a little angry...maybe he could help her, somewhat. He saw that the others had already had someone taken care of them...maybe he could...talk to her...

Walking to the girl, Zurich said shyly, his eyes didn't meet her and he fidgeted "...h-hello...I'm Zurich...you seem...uhm...angry so I...I...uhm...I want to check up on you..." He silently cursed his voice for being so low and unattractive as he shifted his gaze to look at the floor, suddenly interested in the pattern.

Athens

Snapping out of her dredful thoughts, Athens heard somebody talking to her. Her glace shifted sideways to a boy with beautiful long hair and a feminine body, but she knew he was a boy. He seemed scared and refused to meet her eyes with his own, which instantly broke down her emotional guards, part of him reflected in her. She decided that, even if this house was abandonded and they had to live on their own, it would probably be safer and easier to live with a group of kids rather than on her own.
Athens gave a friendly smile, or as friendly as she could muster...she still felt angry and cold at the whole situation. "I'm Athens," her voice sounded croaky to her ears, she hadn't spoken for a while. She gave a small cough to clear her throat and continued "You have a nice name, Zurich. I am a bit angry, but I guess it's just habit," her eyes darted around the room again, "I don't think this is just an old house, everything is damp and rotting. The timber is sagging...none of this is good. It just....pisses me off that they could--" holding her rage in she looked back at the boy and noticed that he may be older than her, even though she was taller by not much; her height annoyed her aswell. "Look, I'm alright. How about you? No need to be nervous, it seems we'll be stuck here together." she managed to spit out a laugh, not very convicing, but she didn't want to seem sour.
Athens noticed the girl, Susan, who had fallen asleep and it suddenly made her drowsy aswell.

Zurich Parkinson

"I'm Athens,"

The girl said and Zurich timidly looked at her face to see a smile. Blushing furiously, he looked at his hands and pressed his fingers together in a shy gesture. He didn't know why he was this nervous but he guessed meeting people in a strange place liked this tended to do that. The girl - Athens coughed to clear her voice and continued after a second or so "You have a nice name, Zurich. I am a bit angry, but I guess it's just habit," He nodded his head softly as his skin tinted pink at her compliment. His name was not that nice...He fidgeted slightly again as he didn't know how to respond to her compliment...what should he do? Should he give her a compliment, too? Should he stay quiet? No, staying quiet was rude...His Mother had taught him so. Opened his mouth hesitantly, Zurich whispered "...you have a n-nice name, too, A-athens..."

"I don't think this is just an old house, everything is damp and rotting. The timber is sagging...none of this is good. It just....pisses me off that they could--"

Zurich flinched at her angry tone of voice, his whole body tensed suddenly and he cautiously took a step backward. He didn't like to talk to an angry person...it reminded him too much of his Father. His breathing quickened as his hands raised slightly, ready to protect himself in case the situation got ugly. What was with the girl? Had he said something that made her angry? Suddenly, without any warnings, the girl asked him "Look, I'm alright. How about you? No need to be nervous, it seems we'll be stuck here together."

Still looked at her with great caution, Zurich answered in his usual rough voice "...I-I'm fine..." He didn't, however, stop being nervous. What if she decided she wanted to play with him? He didn't let his guard down even for a minute as the girl suddenly spitted out a laughter and this time, Zurich flinched violently at the sudden noise. Taking several steps backward, he carefully stood at an arm length so even if she decided to strike him, he would have time to prepare. He spoke softly "...m-maybe we h-have g-gone to the w-wrong place...m-maybe this is not our d-destination..."

Athens

Athens eyed the boy in confusion. He seemed very scared of her, and it frightened her in some way. She wasn't that scary, was she? But she hadn't looked in a mirror for quite a while...perhaps her hair resembled a lion or maybe her thin figure reminded him of an ugly bug that bit him when he was a child. This thought made Athens pout and shift her bag awkwardly onto her back. She noticed Zurich was moving backward and she just sighed, "...m-maybe we h-have g-gone to the w-wrong place...m-maybe this is not our d-destination..." he said, making her laugh genuinely. She remembered Georgia used to say she loved her laugh, and that thought made Athens sigh again.
"I doubt it," she looked at Zurich sadly "and if it is, there is no way to get back to...well...anywhere, without a map. Hey...is there something on my face? Or er, is my hair looking fine?" she felt ridiculous "I mean...ah shit...it's just, I'm not scary looking, am I? Oh why does it matter..." Athens looked away from the boy, her face a bit flushed. It didn't matter if he liked her or not, the situation was the most important thing right now.
Athens leaned against the wall and looked outside, to the middle of nowhere. It would be difficult to find food...she didn't know how to live in the country, she had always lived in the city. Her gaze fell on the other children and their faces, she wondered if they thought the same as her, but she doubted that aswell. She tried to soften her expression up a bit, to not look angry, but she was frustrated, she couldn't help it. It just wasn't fair. Athens knew though, if she lashed out at a wall or window the other children would not like her, and that was not in her best interests.
Her eyes flittered sleepily, she wasn't sure why she was so tired all of a sudden, but she chose to ignore it, she couldn't fall asleep at a time like this.

Hadith

Running his fingers down the surface of a cabinet, the tips of his nails were eagerly caked with dust. He shuddered in disgust as he stared down at his now grey-tipped hand which he wiped over a nearby curtain. This only caused more dust to become detached from the ragged cloth which he inhaled and made him cough as the particles crawled around his throat. "Needs some dusting...vacuuming...mopping... maybe a little spray of perfume!", Hadith had been muttering some notes to himself on what had to be done to the house to make it livable to his circumstances. Actually quite eager to get started on cleaning up, the thought finally struck him, 'Why is no one coming to greet us?'. Suspicious was the perfect word to describe the entire situation. Now trying to piece everything together, all of it started to sound outrageously bizarre! A bunch of kids sent to the same place, same adopter, to the middle of nowhere, in a creepy old building that seemed to have been abandoned. For crying out loud, even the adopter's name was weird! What kind of name was Brittle?Ā

Hadith began to pace back and forth, the low murmur of chatter between a dark haired 'girl' and the red haired teenager from earlier was bouncing around the walls of the room. "...m-maybe we h-have g-gone to the w-wrong place...m-maybe this is not our d-destination..."
Turning his head to the comment, his ears twitched slightly as a feeling of eeriness crawled down his spine. "Weird.. No one seems to be coming to greet us. It's starting to give me the creeps", he decided to join the two before having one of those random body spasms as he tried to shake feeling. Not too far from where they stood, Susan seemed to be making herself right at home and looked to be dozing off just fine.

Zurich Parkinson

"I doubt it, and if it is, there is no way to get back to...well...anywhere, without a map. Hey...is there something on my face? Or er, is my hair looking fine?" Athens asked Zurich and he looked at her in confusion, slightly surprised by her question...why did she ask about her face or hair? That was then he realized he was still looking at her with suspicion and he quickly dropped his eyes, staring at the ground instead. Oh, he supposed she didn't understand why he was looking at her like that and it had probably made her uncomfortable. He fidgeted as he didn't know what to say. He didn't like telling lies and he didn't want to tell her the truth, either...He couldn't just outright say that her face was scary when she's mad...it would only provoke her and she might start hitting him if she was angry.

"I mean...ah shit...it's just, I'm not scary looking, am I? Oh why does it matter..."

Athens said and Zurich looked at her face, noticing the slight blush on her face. Oh no, he hoped he hadn't given any wrong expression. Quickly raising his hand to defense himself, Zurich stuttered "...n-no, n-no...y-you're not s-scary...It's just..." He swallowed thickly and lowered his voice, looking at his hands and traced a long, thin scar on his right wrist "...I j-just d-don't like s-seeing people mad...It reminds m-me of my F-father..." He whispered in a tiny voice. Pressing his fingers together again, Zurich looked around, trying to find a distraction. Suddenly finding himself exhausted, Zurich suppressed a yawn as another boy walked up and said to them, his voice carried in the dusty room and echoed slightly "Weird.. No one seems to be coming to greet us. It's starting to give me the creeps"

Zurich nodded his head softly and replied "...I-I d-don't think anyone lives here...I mean..." He touched the dusty table and tried to give a gesture with his hands "...look at this...I t-think this p-place h-has been abandoned fo-for years..." Sighing heavily, he mumbled underneath his breaths "...maybe t-the o-orphanage t-thinks w-we're t-too troublesome a-and w-wants t-to a-a-a-abandon us..."

Athens

Before Athens could reply to Zurich and his whisper about his father, the boy in nice clothing walked up to them and joined in the conversation. A light flush fell over Athens' face, looking down at her own clothing and back up at both of the boys. She followed their words and nodded at Zurich's...hesitant statements. "Though I doubt that," she muttered "They probably have too many kids to look after and are now dumping them in the middle of nowhere. How nice that they could leave us this house". She bent over and picked up an old broken piece of timber, and snapped it easily in her hands, making some of the timber even crumble into a heavy dirt. Athens let the timber and dirt fall back onto the ground, almost as if it had vertified the truth. A sudden flood of rage came over her, causing her to kick the piece of wood hard onto a wall on the other side of the room. She held her fist tight, so she wouldn't lash out infront of anyone.
"This is crap," she growled, and slid her body down the wall she was leaning against. Athens gathered her knees up against her chest and hugged them, letting the drowsiness flood over her. She didn't care if she fell asleep right there infront of both the boys, she hoped she would wake up again, next to her old friend Georgia, and they would continue their day like any other.
But she wasn't that stupid. She knew this was real, and her conditions were worse than before.
Her eyes closed, her head felt heavy and the last thing she remembered before falling into a sleepy coma was the shuffling of the feet of the boys standing infront of her and the smell of damp wood.

"...maybe t-the o-orphanage t-thinks w-we're t-too troublesome a-and w-wants t-to a-a-a-abandon us...", Zurich replied and Athens followed with, Ā "They probably have too many kids to look after and are now dumping them in the middle of nowhere. How nice that they could leave us this house". Both names he had overheard through their conversation while he was investigating the place. He noticed another girl with brown hair curl up into a ball and fall asleep. Everyone looked so tired, probably from the long trip to get-rid-of-kids land. Hadith was trying his best to think positively, but with all these questions going around about this adoptee, he wasn't so sure himself if their imaginative guesses were in fact true.Ā

Glancing back down to the pair, he watched as Athens let herself drag down to the ground, her hair crawling up against the wall, but when she finally halted at ground it followed after and went back to its original spot in a messier state.
Her eyes fluttered to a dazed close and by the way she was breathing, it was easy to tell she had fallen asleep. All three girls had now gone into slumber, Susan, Blair, and of course, Athens.

Blinking a few times in disbelief, he wondered how they could fall asleep so effortlessly at such a crucial time when these unsettling questions were hanging around. Turning to Zurich, he frowned confusedly and after looking him in the eye for a few seconds, he finally twirled towards his gym bag and hauled it to the corner of the room not too far from where Athens slept. With that last bit of movement, he plopped himself down on his somewhat comfy luggage and leaned his head daintily against the wall. "I don't know what to think or say anymore.", he muttered lightly as his eyes trailed up to look at Zurich. His mind had now registered that 'she' was actually a 'he'.Ā
Maybe sleeping was everybody's way of escaping this weird situation. Hoping that when they awoke, this would be just some strange dream that your mind came up with just to fill in some holes during your REM sequence.

Flan

ā€œYou don't have to ask me, as far as I see it, I'm friends with everyone as long as they aren't my enemies. As for my luggageā€¦ Iā€™m stronger than I look you know, I can handle it. Thanks though itā€™s nice to meet you Flan.ā€ replied the nicest person that he had ever met. It almost reminded him of when he was younger, with the older people that would take care of him. Thinking of that, he could barely hold back a shudder from the cold wind, but continued to run towards his new life with a smile pasted on his face.

Maybe the other future sister wasnā€™t quite as nice, but Flan was sure that sometime in the future, she would become a friend too. It was obvious! She was justā€¦ shy, maybe? He was sure that with time, she would open up to him, and become one of his best friends. Flan could almost picture the endless days having fun in their new house. ā€œDon't get your hopes too high now, for all we know Brittle could be a evil scientistā€¦ā€

But he knew that it would be perfect! It was not just a guess, you know? It was going to be true. It had to be! People in his orphanage were always so happy to be adopted - there was no way that his adopter would be a mean person like a evil scientist! Plus, all evil scientists had weird names, like ā€œOldbotā€ or ā€œEvilpersonā€ or something of the like. Something obvious.

Shaking his head, he removed those negative thoughts from his head. He ought to be happy, The solid steps under his feet felt cold but slightly reassuring to the touch. It seemed to get darker, and Flan shivered again. He couldnā€™t wait to enter the sh - his new house and meet Mister Brittle finally. When Susan opened the door, he looked around with wondering eyes at where he would spend the rest of his childhood.

Well, it wasnā€™t quite as pretty as he had hoped, without the whitewashed walls and sparkling wooden floors, but at the very least, it was a roof over his head, and with everyone else around, there was no doubt that it would be fun. There was a nice feeling of acceptance to it too! His new friend - Susan - looked around slowly, before dropping her bag on the floor. ā€œIā€™m too tired to even complain right now. I think Iā€™m going to take a small napā€¦ wake me up later pleaseā€¦ā€

Flan could only nod his head excitedly, as he sat down next to her. He would try his best to stay up for as long as he could and make sure that he was able to wake her up. It was the least he could do for someone who was so willing to be his friend. Sitting down on the dirty ground, he looked with bleary eyes. He was going to stay up for the entire night so that he would be there when she needed to be awoken.

The other future friends were in the building as well with him, and he caught a glimpse of an older girl - or was it a boy? Well, he hadnā€™t seen the person before in the past, and was surprised when he spoke to the girl that he had sat close to. He would have paid more attention to their conversation, but all of a sudden, a large yawn came bursting out.

ā€˜I have to stay awake!ā€™

Mad at himself, he looked around again, before looking at the girl who had sat close to him on the train. Driving away his exhaustion for a few minutes, he shot her a smile. She looked so alone - maybe all that he needed was a friend that would make sure that he would stay awake. Still, though, his eyelids felt so heavy. Slowly, slowly, they drifted downwards, as Flan expended all his strength trying to keep them open. Then, with a final lurch downwards, they closedā€¦ and Flanā€™s head tilted to the side, and he fell into a fetal position, limbs curled for warmth. ā€˜Iā€™ll just rest here for a bitā€¦ Iā€™m not sleeping!ā€™

As the Orphans fell into a forced slumber the magic of night began to take place. The crimson sun dipped behind the horizon causing a blinding flash to occur. The multi-coloured fingers of the otherworld combed their way through the dark human skies morphing the land surrounding into something else.Ā

The shabby shack of a house changed in the blink of an eye. Oil lanterns roared to life, smoke began to crawl it's way out of the chimneys and water started to pour from the stone holes beneath the houses foundations onto the ground below.Ā

Like a peculiar mutation, the foggy water swallowed the land and caused a strange mist to set in. Moments after, lights glow in amongst the fog attached to little wooden boats carrying precious cargo...customers.Ā

Child messengers crawl out of their hammocks beneath the floor boards and various staff switch shifts ready for the nights service. Amidst the oddities of the otherworld 7 humans lay just inside the reception unaware of the change...and the adventure they were about to embark on.

Susan Williams

As the surroundings changed around the orphans, Susan was deep asleep, dreaming. A simple dream that almost seemed like a memory to her, a memory from when she was a child. The time where she was seven years old and had often stayed playing on her schools small playground. Kids would often play on it till their parents arrived to pick them up, she would spend her time there with her friends, keeping them company till their awaited guardians took them home. She dreamt of the warm sun light that would beat down on them as they ran around playing the simple game called tag, if only life could stay so simple. Once the children were gone, Susan would leave to walk home, her mother busy at work and unable to come pick her up. Of course it could be dangerous for a child to walk home alone, but luckily no strange occurrences ever happened. Yes, this was a dream of one of her regular days as a child; a peaceful one. If only life could be that simple, to enjoy the company of others and return home to relax.

What seemed to such a long dream, happened to not be too long. "Merg...." she groaned. Susan had began to awaken from the lovely dream, but it's what she would find that would seem more like a dream. She slowly opened her eyes, not realizing her surroundings quite yet due to her being drowsy from have just woken up. " Guys...what time is it..?" she rubbed her eyes, still laying on the floor. The house smelt different from what it had been before, it didn't smell of old mold. She sat up, letting out a large yawn as she stretched her arms apart and looked beside her to see a sleeping Flan. She had to admit, he looked quite adorable when he was sleeping. Her small figure turned to face him and shook him lightly " Flan....time to wake up..." she spoke with a drowsy voice. Then it hit her as she was shaking him, the flooring.
(( At this point I began listening to Soundtrack: Brittle House))
The floor was no longer the creaky boards as they were before, how had she not noticed right away. Susan quickly turned her head, there was furniture all around, the walls were no longer falling apart. It was as if some one came over night and took them to a whole different house. This was no house though, she had seen nothing of such luxury or such a home so BIG. She was wide awake now, but the palace was filled with the voices of odd creatures, some looking human, while others looked quite... monstrous. Was she in a dream? Had she still been dreaming? Where was she?

"Wake up...."

she whispered the words to the other orphans, she wasn't sure if she was scared or nervous, or..both. The small figure of hers was now standing up in full alert, she could see the odd creatures staring at the group, some with uninterested eyes while others seemed a bit too interested. Her baby face was filled caution, she spoke again, but louder. " Wake up! All of you wake up!" she turned around quickly and shook Flan harder then before " You have to wake up! Please!"

It had now all began, it was unknown what the orphans would encounter now, what could happen now and what will they experience?

Can you relate to those times when you catch yourself falling asleep and wake up with a start.
It felt like that for Ashley Parker when she heard the smashing of a glass. Her body jolted in shock and her eyes flapped open to gain visual on a blurry scene. The surroundings smelt waxed and polished. Golden glows and passing shadows surrounded her as she felt her forehead.

Confusion lasted for a few moments, an uncertain state that left her not knowing where she was last. When she did recall her location her blue eyes widened in bewilderment. This wasnā€™t the run down house. Thinking it was a dream was out of the question when she sat up and gazed around taking in the other Orphans laying about; there was no way she would dream about these losers.

With her head on a swivel she noticed Susan and Flan already on their feet standing stock still, when she followed their line of sight she froze. Her heart flickered like a flame from the adrenaline of both excitement and fear. Just feet away stood two extraordinary boys.

One with glossy silver hair, eyes like a thunder-cloud and the ears and tail of a fox. The other with flame-like hair, crimson eyes and a smile that could stop any heart beat. For some unexplainable reason they were attractive beyond comparison and Ashley felt a lust she never knew she had in her for the silver haired boy. It was so powerful it made her feel physically sick that she wasnā€™t in closer contact with him.
With shaky legs she stood up behind Flan her eyes wide with uncertainty. The three Orphans looked like a litter of baby rabbits caught in the headlights of an on coming vehicle in the shadows of the two Brittle House employees who naturally (as spirits) stood feet above the small build of a human being.

ā€œWhatā€™s going on?ā€ Ashley murmured shallowly.

The air is thick and murky with incense. The House manufactures foreign heat but those closer to the ground can only feel the bitter chill of the night. A small selection of special spirits loiter tentatively nearby a broad desk playing with their hair whilst sending stealthy glances in their masterā€™s direction.

Through the smoke two luminous, reptilian eyes stare back at them.

Up on the top floor of the House they all linger in mysterious fog, nothing is solid or for certain on the top most floor of the Brittle House. It is the masters utmost domain and only the special spirits know what is what round there aside from him.

ā€œTerraā€ comes his husky murmur from the midst of sweet scented cloud.

A special spirit steps forth and bows awkwardly whilst the others titter childishly to one another in discontent for not being chosen.
Two large Indigo coloured eyes gaze up at the master as Terra hangs upon every passing second waiting for him to bestow a message upon her.
She watches the master with eager eyes as he swirls a finger in the mass of water-coloured cloud that hung closest to him.

ā€œNew employees have arrived. Scattered and chaste in the otherworld, bring them to tea before they aggravate the customers.ā€

Rie

The customers were far more rowdy than usual, their antics driving the blond Huldra to wish that somehow, just somehow, her tail was long enough to clobber her own ears. She had no such luck whatsoever. What made the attention of them even worse was the fact that one of the more visible sources eye candy, Gwen, that grumpy and all-too serious silver-haired kitsune, was missing from his usual rounds. Without his powers of distraction, the customers were far moreā€¦ interested in bothering the others, such as herself. When dealing with them was irritating even in the best of times, this just made it worse. Catching sight of a less-than polite wave from an otherworldly spirit, which she vaguely recognized as a Nyx, Rie sighed, and made her way towards the customer.

ā€œDearest Sir, is there anything that I may do to aid you?ā€ she asked, keeping her eyes focused on the space between his eyebrows. The smell of fish pervaded the air this close to the water-dwelling male, and quite frankly, Rie was having a difficult time breathing. Not that her own personal comfort could be placed above that of the more esteemed clients. She recognized this brand of customer. They would normally be the ones chasing after the silver-tailed waiter, for purposes were more disturbingā€¦ than not. Their almost unsettling behavior ranged from simple desire to something a little stronger. At the very least, it was Gwen on the receiving end, not her. Heh, there was no wonder why he was always so irritated.

ā€œHuh,ā€ came the less than understandable reply. ā€œIā€™d like some of that and maybe this and - yes, thatā€™ll be all.ā€ Seeing as the customer was not really referring to anything in particular, Rie attempted to convey her confusion through a quick double-blink and tilt of the head. The smile remained. She was ignored, before the customer turned back to sharing his highly improbable exploits to his partner.

Rie almost opened her mouth to speak, before remembering that a customer was not to be disturbed in any state - other than outright emergencies. Taking that as her cue to leave, she, carrying a silver tray in one hand, strode, almost glided off. Plus, she wasnā€™t in the mood to deal with them at the moment. Caught up in her own thoughts, the huldra was unable to place that calm smile over her own countenance, and therefore, was unable to remain the perfect waitress that she almost prided herself on. It wasnā€™t like Gwen to be missing from his duties, as he was type that spent all his life doing his job. Neither could she spot that red-haired vampire, Ren, who, while being a boring type of spirit, was far too happy about everything for his own good. He was also the source of plenty of problems. The two of them, fitting their rhyming names, tended to be seen together, although their personalities clashed.

It seemed as though while debating such issues, there was no way that she would be able to concentrate. Perhaps it was time to find that kitsune. Just for her own mental comfort.

All sheā€™d do is somehow get the uptight waiter to wander around the area, drawing all attention, and taking that chance, she would be able toā€¦ pick the better customers for her own attention. The huldra wandered off, ignoring a customerā€™s call for aid, pretending as though she hadnā€™t seen it. Anyways, there was another waiter heading in that relative direction. It quite wouldnā€™t do for her to steal a tip, would it?

Scanning the crowd with her blue eyes, she caught a glimpse of Gwenā€™s blue fox-fire, brighter than anything else in the nearby area. Ah, he was there, was he? Rie quickened her step, before the Huldra caught sight of the distinctive of both males - Gwenā€™s silver mane and Renā€™s crimson. ā€˜I wonder what in the world theyā€™re doing?ā€™ Half in her mind to chastise them for doing nothing of worth, continued to observe from afar. She wouldnā€™t involve herself, until she realized if there was a prank worth doing. The things you do for boredom.

Behind the two, there seemed to be movement, and Rie changed her viewing position to take a better look at them. Customers were the best beings to play with - their irritating features making such actions akin to revenge. There were a few upright customers, and two were even lying on the floor. With a frown, she looked at the prone bodies more closely - it was still early in the night, and usually people did not pass out untilā€¦ hours later. But that wasnā€™t the most important thing. To the best of her knowledge, they lacked even the more normal of otherwordly characteristics. No strange body parts, nothing really that set them off from the rest. ā€œWhat is this place? Is this some sort of cosplay shop? Did you all drag us here?ā€ Watching the girl closely, there was not even the telltale glimpse of saliva-drenching, blood-yearning fangs.

Pranks momentarily forgotten, she continued to stand there, unable to bring herself to making the next step forward. Could they perhaps beā€¦

It couldnā€™t be possible. Humans did not enter the Brittle House. It just couldnā€™t beā€¦

Brittle wouldnā€™t haveā€¦

From her confused eyes, she watched as the other two prone bodies straightened upright, albeit not at the same time, each of them spouting words from their mouth. ā€œW-what...I mean,w-who are you?ā€¦ā€ If it made her happier somehow, it seemed as though they, too, had no idea what they were doing here.

ā€œ[b]What the hell?
came the other, more abrasive tone. This was a true enigma. Finally unable to hold back her interest in the current proceedings, she finally made the last steps necessary to stand by the side of the male waiters. She made sure to keep her tone and words light, butā€¦ ā€œMost Esteemed Guests,ā€ she blinked, before continuing, ā€œis there a reason why youā€™re here of all places?ā€

A black-haired child, really, spoke up, with a voice filled with indignation. ā€œWeā€™ve been adopted by Mister Brittle, maā€™am. Weā€™re going to be part of the family and everything. And weā€™ll have fun, every single day. And weā€™ll have a perfect life, Iā€™m telling you!ā€

W-what was going on?
