That's General Walker to you, boy.

0 · 447 views · located in Wing City Gardens (South)

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Patcharoo, as played by Kidafire

Description

Ex-General Walker is a very sober and serious man who's focus is on one thing, results. He does not like to be kept waiting, he does not like excuses. He demands only the best and the finest. He comes from Texas and boasts the biggest, best ship. He refuses to talk on his past history on why he is known as; Ex-General Walker. He does not help the undeserving, he does not pity the needy and he does not bend in the face of death. He is a good man and if you serve him well, he will lead you to victory.

"I am Ex-General Walker. You will not ask me why I am Ex-General Walker. These men," he said, indicating to the control panels behind him being tirelessly worked with digital displays showing readings of their path and paths of nearby other crafts, "Are my men. They followed me through hell. I expect the same level of respect from you as I do from them."

He placed his hands on the banister rail as he stared down to his guest. "What did you say your name was?"

"I am a man of good taste, as most Texan's are. Whut I am after is strong realiable men who I can trust to complete duties to a hundred percent of their skill." He walked to the stairs and began his slow progress downwards. "I am a large investor in a company known as Orion Industries. Whut the problem is, they have competitors who believe they have created technology superior to my own. I can not allow for their products to be bought by the military."

"If you choose to take this job we have never met. You have not come to this ship. If you are affiliated with us, we will deny your actions being under orders. You will be a rogue agent. We will throw you to the sharks, and if you turn on us, you will be our next agents job."

"If you choose to accept this mission, you will be ranked on a chart along with other operatives. Your ranking will determine how valuable you are to us. If you are the highest on the list, you will be a team leader as well as highest paid. If you continue to perform well you will be allowed to use our extensive training facilities and technology."

"Hm," the general said with narrowing yees, both hands folding behind his back. "Your mission will be to infiltrate a scientific lab. Security will be high and likely consisting mostly of armed guards. From inside the facility we want two things, the first is all the data on their new project known as 'Project Gamma' and secondly pictures of said project. Should it be deemed neccesary mid-mission you will be required to destroy 'Project Gamma'. You may assemble what team you choose. Consider this a trial mission."

"You may be as violent as you wish, that is up to your own discretion, but you can not be traced back to us."

"I do not have a preference. They are not my men, they are not my concern."

He raised his hand to his ear where a small communicator lay. "Bring what we know of 'Project Gamma' on screen." Images flashed onto the wall behind him from an unseen projector, the first of a large metal case. "This is a rivalling robotics company of Orion Industries. We know they were designing some sort of new robot, but we were uncertain of what made it so special."

The clips were brief, images of parts being brought in, miniature rockets, a radar shot of a field where the robot was tested outside. It was bulky, looked like a tank without the barrel, and with a red eye on each side.

"This is all we know of the machine. We do have the full blueprints of the facilities upper floors, however we were unable to uncover the basement floors, where it is presently being kept."

"Our 'talker' can get you something through the back door, a loading bay in which they get all of their equipment. However, everything that comes in through there is checked by security. You only have three other options of entry. The front door, the emergency fire exit or the ventilation system. The ventilation will take you immediately down one floor, and once there it is up to you to navigate."

"Your methodoligies are your own," he answered firmly, his face unflinching like stone. "There is one other major obstacle you must bypass, two security doors. The first requires retina scans which the 'talker' can provide, but the second requires fingerprint scanning, which he can not."

"I would suggest you get creative with how you plan to obtain the prints, unless you plan to break through the door with explosives. I have a list of names our talker believes can get through the door."

Ex-General Walker, as he was known, approached the the security station of the fort, reaching for the barrel of his pistol to offer it over, along with his honourary sword. For what honour he earned it was completely unknown, but he carried it with him everywhere. Other than that, he submitted himself for a full security scan with the full patience of a long-serving military man, eyes focussed forward the entire time, running through the topics he had in mind.

As ordered, Walker walked before the yellow taped line for his photo, waiting for his visitor badge, before moving on. He did not respond to the man, merely followed his orders. He wanted to get through this as quickly as possible.

"Thank you, son," answered the ex-general, turning and heading in the direction of the 'L. Haima Building', where he would wait in the lobby, back straight, eyes scanning around the room for the Admiral he was expecting.

It was an impressive ship, not that the most recent of visitors would know such. Contacted only briefly planetside or via video conferencing, then teleported up from the spaceport, the inside, which was little more than a lengthy corridor leading to the main bridge, was all they'd have seen.

A sober and greying man watched on with a stern face as his people worked. He walked down three steps from control panels to main floor to address the two. "I am Ex-General Walker," he began with a southern drawl, "And you have been asked to come here on business. That means someone either asked you to do some mercenary work, field testing an Orion Industries product, or we're looking to arrange a partnership or business trade."

"I'm sorry we haven't been introduced before now. Can I know your names?"

Walker stared on without any change in facial expression. "Invictus? So you could be here for anything. How desperate are your boys for money. Money going from anywhere up to the millions. Unless you're buying products, in which case it may be the other way around. If you are unaware-" he said, pausing only a moment to narrow his eyes at Lara, "-We are one of the largest investors in a company known as Orion Industries, who produce robotics for military purposes."

"Either you are here to slow down a competitor, buy their equipment, or earn money by testing their equipment." A lot of money could be earned in field testing for two reasons, the first being silence money so they didn't share Orion Industries secrets and the second because of the suffering that was likely to be faced.

"Miss, I don't know what you're on about, but if you are on this ship you are on by invite." Then again, it wasn't like people closely monitored the teleporter at the damned spaceport.

The Ex-General raised a hand to his ear and ordered, "Bring in Orion and check if this woman is the one I'm meant to be meeting." He sounded unimpressed. After a momentary pause he added, "And a secrecy agreement. Miss, I am going to have some men bring in a piece of paper saying that nothing said in this meeting will leave the room under threat of legal action. I would like you to sign it."

A noise of thumping metal on metal came from down the hall as a nine foot robot stomped towards the room, sporting a body that made it look almost like a mobile wrecking ball. "This is Orion's latest piece of technology that needs field testing."

"This military machination places itself through concrete walls like they're paper and throws tanks. We've tested it in one against one examples, but we have only a limited number of military trained personnel on this craft. It needs to be tested against real military. Squads. Tactics. We're looking for vulnerabilities. All injured personnel in a field test would be quickly treated for their injuries or placed in a healing tank in the unlikely event of serious injury."

"However the AI should prevent it from actually causing any real damage."

A person walked up to Walker and they briefly conversed. "What did you say your name was, miss?" The contract was handed to the Ex-General, and for the moment he watched the woman.

"We'll have Orion planet side whenever you need him, with a man called Smith as his escort. If that's fine with your superiors, our business is done until we need to talk money. In which case there's just you," he said, staring at Lara.

"If you think you can do a better job of fixing up the military grade AI, I will give you the chance to do so." He seemed annoyed, but the woman was right. The robot was either remote controlled, or set on auto-pilot, at which point it just started slamming into things. It was effective, but that was more a matter or brute force than ingenuity.

"We will throw in a healing tank or two with your package," answered Walker, confidence almost creeping into his voice.

The papers were offered out and the Ex-General seemed less than happy. "Just sign and you're free to go. The teleporter out is down the hall you came in by." He seemed unhappy, really. "And weren't you ever taught some manners?" he demanded, "Look at someone when they're talking to you."

"Why don't you walk her home, then?" Walker answered, rather curtly. He didn't seem to be particularly polite nor patient.

And with that, the order was arranged for Orion to be surface side, when needed.

The Ex-General was a sober figure, stern, military. He refused to take a seat, as he deemed it too lazy for his demeanour. He almost always stood, especially when talking to people. He felt the need to see them eye to eye. "You let a dangerous prisoner kept under high observation escape while you had them at a tactical disadvantage," he said slowly with a thick southern drawl. "Not only that, but then you failed to call for assistance with handling the prisoner when they no longer became manageable, and it wasn't until you screamed in pain that we were aware of their position."

"Do you have any reason that I should keep you employed at this high security prison? You were selected as an individual for your abilities, but you showed only tonight your inability to work as a team."

The Ex-General headed towards the desk, laying a hand on it lightly. "These are the files we had on the woman, including her involvement in something known as the 'Shadow Council'. You have one chance to redeem yourself." He had no sympathy for failure. Tears would not sway his iron heart. "She was shot before she escaped, but no body was found. We assume this means she is still out there. If you want to keep a job here, capture her. Bring her back."

He picked up the files and offered them out. Across the top was a simple printed name in red letters. Abigail Daybreak.
