Quinn Balfour

A Knight Templar destined to wander the multiverse.

0 · 607 views · located in Master's Dojo

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Skallagrim

Description

Quinn Balfour is a tall man, standing a shade over six-feet four inches in height. Deep chestnut colored hair falls down along his shoulders and cascades over the down his back terminating mid shoulder blade. Quinn is a warrior, his powerful and lean frame denotes years of hard-earned confidence and skill as a knight in the far desert Holy Lands.

Deep set eyes brood from under thick eyebrows and those deep-set eyes a brilliant silver-blue like a thunderbolt seem to glow with deep passions.
The angular face and square jaw windblown and tawny from years under a merciless sun complete the visage of the knight.

Personality

Piety: Being a Templar, Sir Quinn often prays to the higher power, and will in battle asked that a saint or two intercede on his behalf so that he may survive the battle.

Quiet and aloof he watches others and intervenes when those in need require it.

Equipment

Wearing chain armor and a plain gray hooded tunic with a simple red cross, a wide double wrapped sword belt circles his hips, the war sword hanging from it. A footman's mace also hangs from the belt, a covered heater rests upon his left arm. Prefers to use the war sword but is versed in most martial weapons.

His war sword named Dubhglas- "From the Dark Water." The 36-inch long blackened blade, nicked and notched through years of use, while the heavy steel hilt has Ogham marks carved in it. The 8-inch handle allows for both a single and two-handed grip. The sword is 44-inches long giving him a very effective reach.

History

Quinn had given up his lands and title to country in the A' Ghidhealtachd (Scottish Highlands), having joined the Knights Templar, he voluntarily relinquished those things; in return he joined the famed Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Solomonici. (The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon). Called forth from his homeland he traveled to the Holy Land to free it from the Saracens and their Hassassins who tried to control the area. Serving for four tedious years, fighting and meeting the many people of the Middle East, his outlook on much of his teachings back in Scotland had changed. There was indeed more to the world the Laird had created than he had imagined.

Now an eternal wanderer, Sir Quinn travels the multiverse seeking understanding and doing what good he can to those that cross his path.

Quinn Balfour Whirling dark, a pulsating miasma of nether stuff flowed and spiraled until the figure of a tall man slowly materialized. Spotting Aiyanna, the being asked innocently enough; "Contruct..were you willing to defend Drakus Flavaar from defeat? Why? His soul is of no concern to you."

Quinn Balfour A cold breeze followed the lonely man into the dojo. The white surcoat fluttered in the roiling air, the soft clink of his chain mail as he moved echoed hollowly in the vast space. A heater on his left hand, his right lay easily on the pommel of his war sword. He had been ask to come here to display a knight's sword skill to the curious. Cobalt eyes surveyed the area warily looking for his opponent.

Quinn Balfour Eying the younger man, the knight nodded to Dorian Wingcraft, a tight lipped smile crossed his grizzled face, "Of course...I suppose we should start then." With that the knight moved into a neutral stance. The heater covered the left leg from the bent knee and a majority of the torso. The right leg slid back as the war sword slipped from th sheath and flowed into a low guard behind the knight. Blade tipped towards the floor.

Quinn Balfour Eyes locked for a moment as the knight faced his lightly clad opponent. Wide stance, hands and feet alike in decidedly martial stance. Studying the position a moment, Quinn took two slide steps to his left, each movement closed the distance at an obtuse angle. Not overly much since with the war sword and it's 44 inches of overall length he would use it to his advantage. His movements would place him on the flank of the other man on his right shoulder. Each shift precise as right foot slide easily behind left, each followed by the shifting of the torso, always shield forward, sword back held easily.

Quinn Balfour Traps. All traps had a lure and this was the lure that attracted the young warrior. Dorian made his move, lightning quick the move would be, yet here was a young buck who had not the horns of an older one. Everything happened so quickly that the results would be recorded. Left foot stamped down, as it do so both knees buckled and collapsed inward as the knight dropped to his right shoulder, rolling away from the moving Dorian. Shield pulled in tight over the recoiling sword then extending out and slamming the wood floor with a loud thunk as it followed the left leg. Pushing up on the right leg into a crouch the war sword jabbed out towards the exposed left side of Dorian. Stabbing for thigh of the man who had side down and launched a kick of his own at a target that had moved. Even as the sword sailed through the air with power and speed accelerated by the rolling torque, towards the unprotected leg Quinn wondered why the man had not waited, while fortune favors the bold, being unable to discern the attack leads to disaster.

Quinn Balfour The desires of youth, the hopes, the dreams...sometimes reality is a harsh mistress. The young warrior reached, grabbed for something anything. And he did, he was met with the heater rising upward in a quick jab to meet the jaw of the younger warrior. A heater comprised of metal and wood, designed as a weapon in and of itself. Many people think a shield is armor when in reality it was just another tool. The rising heater would obfuscate the blow below as it would by virtue of size crash against the knees and head of the monk. While that occurred the impact would knock the knight down and back, all the better as the sword would slash upward the left side of the monk, who by his own actions unless he was inhumanly fast sustain a slash along his lower back and the left oblique of his body closest to the sword of the knight tumbling backwards from his crouch.

Quinn Balfour Allowing the fall to continue the knight rolled over and rose to a crouch, the heater before him, the shield low covering a majority of the hunched body. The sword held low and to the side. The boy was resiliant as the blow to the jaw seemed to have no effect, and the slash seemed only to nick the boy when gravity would dictate even with a push off the razor sharpness would slice more than a mere nick. Cobalt eyes studied the boy a little longer as the appearance of thr dagger changed the nature of the duel slightly. Rising slowly, the knight assumed the same stance he had when the fight started. Knees bent, shield before him, sword back in a rear low guard.

Quinn Balfour Inhaling deeply, sweat dripped down Quinn's back and chest, this Dorian Wingcraft had potential in his speed. Step slide step slide to the right, each move precise but picking up speed. Until the knight was veritably dancing across the floor circling around the monk, seeking an opening. A then the knight spotted it, with a sudden stop and step forward of the right foot, left drawing back the shield tight against the body, knowing the younger man should be following his moves thus obfuscation was required. A quick sudden slash at the boys left leg just below the hip a move that speed along an angle to do nothing more than evoke a response. Should the blade bit flesh it would merely trace a thin angry line but would it?

Quinn Balfour All fights are fought at stages, stages of distance, speed and power. The younger man had spun away from the sword as was expected, as was desired. And the Knight followed suit, allowing the momentum of his blade to spin him, thus the shield in tight was the balance to the extended sword that was now recoiling. The foot work precise, accurate and practiced. As the spinning duo would come from their dervish like movements the prey was in place for the predator to strike. The shield first would smash bodily into the upper back of the lightly armored man hitting the back of his skull in the process. The deadly war sword was already following it's partner as the shield should hit as planned the sword stabbed wickedly down at the lower back, buttocks and hamstring of Dorian. All part of the deadly dance that they had engaged in.

Quinn Balfour Tricks and understanding are picked up through experience not given, not granted. The young warrior Dorian had learning but not experience, he was now learning through experience. The sword once again missed the target. A low growl escaped the throat of the knight as he had to regain his footing after the missed stab. Seeing the onrushing man towards him unsure of the foot attack and seeing the open palm, Quinn dropped to a knee and raised the shield as he did so he stab along the oncoming rushing leg. If the speed was accurate and the attack deduced properly the war sword would strike the body of the warrior before his hand struck the knight, the shield interposed betwixt foot and knight would proffer defense while the deadly blade sought the soft pulp of flesh and muscle. The attacks, both good, would lead to the injury of one, since the actions now were nigh simultaneous. A telling wound most likely the result of the impact of on rushing body against the sharp, tapered tip of the war sword should end the fight with both learning from the other. But one never knew.

Quinn Balfour Falling to the ground, Quinn grunted as the weight of the lighter man fell upon him, a laughter echoed from him as he regained his breath from the blow. "Lad since this is a spar I have cut you twice, do you wish to continue?" The older knight huffed as he felt the uncomfortable chain mail knot up against his lower back. His left hand pinned under him with the shield still between the two, his right had still had the sword although splayed away from the body of the two warriors. Should the fight continue while the lighter man was above him, the older knight was not with tricks and in this position they could prove be deadly. Since the young man while above him was not in the mounted position and with the shield placed as it was would fail to gain it, given the size of the tool.

Quinn Balfour Standing up slowly the knight nodded to the younger warrior, "You will do well, provided you learn to think ahead a bit more. You have the foundation to be an excellent warrior." Smiling the older knight sheathed his sword and saluted the man. Turning he ventured out into the cold streets of Wing City again.

"Yep," Spyri hopped out and adjusted Cha'tlag again. "That rode very smooth, I like it! But yeah, we have arived. This is a great place to train," she continued as she led Niku towards the front.

"Many really famous people trained here. It's not even expensive, like you would think it would be. The whole place is basically a haven for training."

Spyri pushed open the front doors. The main atrium wasn't elaborately decorated, and you could tell it had been there for a while. There was power in the air, that was for certain. Power, and a bit of sweat. Spyri took a deep breath in. This is one of the places she felt free.

“Great!” Niku declared as they entered the place. There were a few people casually working out. Niku immediately started running around and examining anything and everything. It was all so alien to him. After a few minutes, he returned his attention to Spyri and said, “Now, I have important question. Who is master here and does he or she know the art of chi? It is something I must master if I hope to defeat Emperor Pit. He is the invader who took over Carne,” he explained. “You know what chi is, right? I can show you. It is the energy of the spirit manifested in a controllable electric and/or explosive form. You know of this?” he inquired, pressing his hands together. He closed his eyes in concentration and a ball of glowing blue energy gradually appeared between his palms. He used his hands to mold it into the shape of a jagged sword, performing a few demonstrative thrusts before allowing the energy to dissipate.

Character Portrait: Spyri Spyri says,
“ Spyri shrugged. She had never actually seen Master, the owner of the Dojo. She had only heard rumors of his power. But, chi, that sounded familiar. Not that she knew what it was. She was sure someone had said it in here before, however. She quietly listened as he explained a bit about it.

"Woah!" Spyri's eyes boggled as Niku created a a ball of blue energy, turned it into a sword, and demonstrated a bit. It disappeared as fast as it came into existence.

"I don't know about that, but I know if you hang around here, someone will. Er..." Spyri fumbled around for her cellular device. It was a thin pane of glass-like material that seemed unable to be broken. She sent a quick text out to a few people, hoping one would reply with an answer to her inquiry. Surely someone knew a Chi master. Either way, she had other useful contacts left over from her Patronus days.

"I'd show you Chatlag, but she's a bit tired right now i'll admit." ”

Niku straightened up and cleared his throat, feeling somewhat self-conscious by the fact that she seemed so impressed with his dinky little trick. “Well… it may look neat, but I am actually very inexperience,” he explained. “However, if I find chi master, I might stand chance of saving Carne. I suppose I ask around.” He walked over to table and started removing his armor. “I’ve been in kilitholulgulth very long time, need to stretch,” he indicated as he took off his shoulder protectors. He used his tail to release the back of his chest armor before taking it off and putting it down out of the way of the patrons. By the time he removed his hip and shin protectors, he was left in nothing but his form-fitting navy blue jumpsuit. He found a bare spot of floor and dropped into a side split, wincing slightly at the strain. “Months in a space pod leave one very stiff,” he uttered. “So, Spyri, where you live? You want me to drop you home afterward?”

Having been passing through, Claire decided she was going to check out the Master's Dojo she had been hearing so much about. Having been on Terra for a few days now to attend a conference with Tech Con executives, Claire decided she wanted to blow off some steam.

So she stepped through the front doors to the Dojo, with two Aschen adjutants in full uniform behind her, one of them holding a clipboard; the other quietly checking for security threats.

Hanley was wearing her light blue Aschen Imperial Defense force Uniform, but had brought workout attire with her, attire that one of her staff members was carrying inside a duffel bag.

"I'll change and see about getting a workout." She instructed, getting a gruff nod from the Aschen soldier beside her, as he handed her the duffel bag.

"Very good, sir." The Soldier said, as Hanley took the duffel bag, and started towards one of the locker rooms.

As Niku was doing his stretches, he noticed the newcomer and her official-looking companions. His eyes slitted slightly at the sight of them before he nodded in the woman’s direction. “Who is?” he asked Spyri through the robotic-sounding translator on his head. “She look like she come here a lot,” he added as he reached for the toes of his right foot, positioning his torso parallel to the ground. The tip of his tail lightly coiled behind him in curiosity as he observed the new arrivals. He wondered if they were agents of some kind, though he could not even hope to guess for what manner of organization. He grunted and then breathed out a relaxed sigh as he switched over to lean toward the left leg.

Niku shuddered, glancing at his own tail. “You… you mean I should steer clear? You make Aschen sound like Emperor Pit and his people, except maybe even more bad. I do not understand. Why hate people for what they cannot control?” he murmured, shaking his head in disapproval. He wrapped his tail around his waist in an effort to make himself look less conspicuous. Maybe if they thought it was a furry white belt, they would be less likely to pay him any mind. He watched with a side-glance as the relatively small woman started benching a lot of weight, though he had no idea how much weight it actually was. He was totally unfamiliar with the alien items in the dojo. “What is she doing? Strength training? I know nothing of the equipment in here. Do you know how to use?” he asked Spyri. A thoughtful look befell his face. “Hey, you seem worthy of trust. Are there others you recommend I avoid? Trouble is last thing I need. I must focus on training and then return to help my people.” As he spoke, he smoothly transitioned into a front split with his right leg facing forward. He bent over to touch his toes, pressing his belly flat against a thick thigh. The presence of these people of questionable moral values had him concerned and he certainly hoped not to cross paths with one in a bad way.
