❥❥ When a present of utmost rarity is gifted to you, the most logical step of action would be to safeguard it with your life, protect it, keep its existence hidden from prying eyes. That’s fine with an inanimate object, but what if that gift, let’s say that oh so uncommon treasure, is a human? Would you say your instinct to hoard would be any different?

❥❥ While not an everyday occurrence, children around the globe were being discovered to be born with certain talents. These abilities were not ones, however, that followed the laws of nature. Some could influence the weather, others could read minds, some could soar above the clouds, the list was non-exhaustive of their potential. Separate entities from ‘normal’ humans, these children were coined as being ‘Seraphs’ and, unfortunately, did not come attached with a happy ending. While some may have the audacity to call it a “blessing”, families who can call claim to having a ‘Seraph’ in their midsts know it’s nothing but a curse. The more noticeable the power, the sooner the child would be taken, spirited away by men sporting armour and guns, with only a large sum of money to fill the void created by a lost child.

Common knowledge is that these children are whisked away to a remote island to spend their young adult lives at Callister Academy. Named after the government official who started up the program, the academy houses students of all ages to promote “a safe space for those who are still learning to control their abilities”. While at the academy, contact with the outside world is forbidden and no student is allowed to leave. It's painted as a picture of safety, a place for growth..or, what's that everyone likes to believe. In reality, the academy was made to hoard the rare gifts of Seraphs, to keep them in a central location until they can be used for another’s gain.

Callister Academy is quite unlike any other school to date; it is comparable to a gilded cage. The school is heavily patrolled by both the likes of armed guards and teachers, adults who have powers of their own and have been granted a position of work. While each student has a limiter on their person to prevent the extreme usage of their powers, using one’s abilities is actually encouraged. Most notably, however, is that the academy ranks their students.

Using the coined “Deck System”, each student is ranked by the strength of their abilities and their behaviour. The lowest on the scale are the numbers, with the Royalty being the face cards of the deck; The King, The Queen, and The Jack. The luxury awarded to students, anything ranging from higher quality food to extended curfew to suite apartments, is entirely dependent on where they lie in the deck hierarchy. The Royalty are considered the créme of the school, the elite of the elite. Their powers, combined with their non-aggressive behaviour and compliance, makes them model students who act as the reinforcers amongst the school's population.

While Callister Academy sounds like a paradise, it is far from it. Very few students know the vile truth behind the Academy’s actual purpose, something that the teachers and the selected Royalty, don’t want to come to light. Posing as a facility to help Seraphs learn to control their powers to prepare for their integration into society, is the only aspect the academy has been upfront about. Secretly, the students are being honed to become benefits to society….or, at least, those rich or influential enough to have access to their skills. Callister Academy is a training ground for the creation of made to hire weapons. Anything from becoming personal bodyguards for the elite to becoming assassins for hire to even cleaning up evidence of dirty work, is on the table, all without the student’s knowledge. That's the entire purpose behind the Deck System; to weed out those who are too weak to continue, those who aren’t of any use, from those who are more desirable. And to those who fall below a 1? Their disposal is taken care of discreetly, of course.

❥ Numbers are based on power strength AND behaviour in school. High ranking numbers are usually both powerful and obey the school rules (or at least appear to).
❥ The Royalty is aware of the Academy's purpose
❥ Power types are divided into different categories to test ability strength:
- Weak; Weak in strength and use, they are usually students who will dip below 1 as time goes on.
- Diffused; Can use abilities for long periods of time but low in strength, quite common.
- Intermittent; Can use abilities in short bursts for high amounts of power, but not for long periods of time.
- Limited; Can use power unlimitedly at full strength but shortens lifespan when used. Extremely rare case.
❥ Royalty are the enforcers in the student population, like a Student Council. They usually help to keep people in line, may be sent after students who try to escape, etc.
