"Curiosity didn't kill this cat!"

Description

Jikorin
"Rin"

Image

Name: Jikorin
Race: Bakeneko (Youkai Cat)
Age: 495 Years
Gender: Female

Appearance:
Jikorin appears to be a black cat at first, but instead of green eyes, hers are red, and she has a blazing red stomach. Her tail is tipped in red. She is two feet high normally, but can change size. She can be as big as a puma, or even as big as a dragon. In humanoid form, she stands at about five-foot-three.

It's the cat that tamed the human,

Skills: Bakeneko, cats that live for a very long time to become Youkai, are very troublesome, having a myriad of abilities. If you have a bad cat, at least you don't have one of these, yet. Jikorin's abilities include;
β€’ Size-Shifiting - Jikorin can change her size, from that of a kitten, to that of a lion, or even a dragon.
β€’ Disguise - She can change her appearance to that of a human, or somewhere between.
β€’ Speech - Anything can speak with the right vocal cords and enough time to learn. Jikorin, however, rarely speaks, as she finds it more fun to do things 'how a cat would'.
β€’ Necromancy - Jikorin has the ability to reanimate the corpses of the dead simply by leaping over them. Often, however, they are possessed by evil spirits or demons under her control.
β€’ Pyromancy - Jikorin can use the power of evil spirits as fireballs or will-o-wisps to mislead or attack enemies or create fires. This would be the equivalent of setting a soul on fire.
Weapons: She uses none, even in her human form. The most she'll attack with is with her claws.

Image

Personality:
About as catty as a cat can get. She's lazy, but loves attention, and will come and go as she pleases without the consent of others. She'll make any mess she pleases, but is usually docile. You can never tell what a cat will do. Though behind her cat-nature, she is what one could consider, a mastermind, more or less. She is always doing what she thinks is best for her, and whatever makes her life easy. However, she is also very cowardly, and will easily abandon others at the first sight of real danger toward herself. Her biggest fear is that of death.

Bio:
Jikorin was once an ordinary cat, just like any other, enjoying the benefits of being a cat. She was under the ownership of humans, or at least that's what they thought, and rather high-class humans at that. They'd spoil Jikorin, and Jikorin enjoyed herself, and whenever she wasn't under the attention of her caretakers, she'd run off and do what a cat did.

However, Jikorin grew old and grew weaker by the day, something her caretakers had not yet noticed. She'd develop a habit of sneaking around at night and licking oil lamps, trying to satiate a craving she couldn't identify. However, one night, she wasn't so careful, and knocked one over, setting the household ablaze which ended up killing those who lived there.

Jikorin would return to the household the next day, to find the souls of the dead homeowners still residing there. Perhaps they were still waiting to travel into the next life, or they hadn't realized they were dead, or perhaps became vengeful spirits. Still, dead souls still retained the magic energy known as Od found in all living things (despite the fact that humans had little of it compared to other creatures). Also, the smelled of death, a smell that was retained in oil as well. Jikorin at that moment, being as she could see the spirits as cats had better eyes, decided to consume the souls of the death, and found that all her strength had returned. From that moment on, Jikorin would sneak into the homes of the dying or the newly dead, or into any building that had spirits still residing in it, and would consume them, giving her strength and prolonging her life, and even gave her all new powers.

Though, a couple decades later, her 'owners' would realize that their family cat had somehow been living long past a cat's normal lifespan, and while they thought it was simply lucky, and that licking oil lamps was simply a cat habit, many others knew that they were the signs of her becoming a Bakeneko, a Cat Youkai. At this time, distrust toward paranormal creatures was beginning to rise once again, and once her caretakers had figured out the truth, thanks to a trap set for Jikorin, she was locked inside a storehouse for an entire week, before a magician whom was a specialist on exorcisms had arrived to dispose of her. However, just before the specialist arrived, Jikorin had somehow managed to set the storehouse on fire by lighting a spirit on fire (she had recently began collecting souls and hiding them in her fur for emergencies) and by sacrificing it, was able to escape unharmed, and into the mountains.

From then on, she would travel (usually by hitchhiking) from place to place, to collect the souls of the newly dead and the vengeful spirits that haunted buildings. Though, she would still stick around for a while to receive the benefits of being a cat from the cat-loving humans. Though, now, with a feud between humans and paranormal creatures, Jikorin is in a very dangerous place. Jikorin is very unlikely to fight on the side of humans, as she is a coward, but it is unknown if she could possibly be working as a spy for one or more factions of paranormal creatures.

So begins...

Humans paced around the camp, preparing for what was likely going to be a bloodshed tomorrow. There was a mixture of tension and dread in the air among them as they worked efficiently as possible, moving things here and there, tracking how many soldiers they had, and of what kind. They supposedly were going to rely on quite a few magic tricks to help them win, and they didn't need scouts to know that they were going to need all the luck in the world if they wanted to see their families again. Of course, these were all at the will of the nobles and the general public. What was once suppose to be a simple extermination had been quickly growing into a full out world.

However, Jikorin knew that there was no chance in the world they were truly going to survive. So, one had to question exactly what was she even doing there, other than to receive the affection of the humans? After all, soon it would all be a land of carnage, something Jikorin would normally want to avoid. The question answers itself, however. It was the souls of the dead that Jikorin desired. It didn't matter which side won in the end, the victims of war will have been scattered all over the place, their souls only beginning to leave their bodies and haunt the wargrounds. What was a battlefield between humans and vermin was merely a strawberry field to Jikorin.

Though, Jikorin could have fought. Ever since the beginning of the feud, there has been a certain fox gaining a lot of attention, by the name of Kiseki. Apparently, this fox had been uniting the uncivilized populations of Youkai scattered across the land, and through her charisma, had been convincing them to come together and join the fight, as an army against their human oppressors. Rumour had it that this fox was actually some sort of genius, though Jikorin had not witnessed such wit yet. Most of the creatures had simply brushed Kiseki and her Youkai force off, claiming that victory was already assured, and that they would only be a hinderance, but Kiseki had been throwing around claims that she had some 'genius' plans and that without her help, all paranormal creatures were doomed under the human's wrath. Of course, Jikorin had been sought out by many Youkai personally, as somehow this fox had found some way to sniff out the exact location of every single Youkai in the kingdom.

Jikorin wasn't too convinced however. She didn't have so much faith in the rumours surrounding the fox, Kiseki, and to her, it sounded as if she was just making a bunch of baseless claims. Jikorin knew there were only a few clever clanks among Youkai, and they were a select few such as Jikorin herself, so imagined it was probably quite easy to convince them to follow your every word and action. Jikorin even considered the thought that she could do it herself. Jikorin bet that if she met this fox in person (or rather in cat, fox, whatever), she'd find nobody any better than herself.

Jikorin turned her attention to a group of three humans. One of them had returned from scouting, although not entirely without hitch. She was a little curious as to what he had seen, wondering exactly what their opponents forces were going to be like. She had felt the presences of many, but her eyesight had difficulty seeing through the trees. Jikorin ran past them and into a tree (a cat habit) and simply watched them.

Alric walked into camp with Mook and Fallon, after the fight with the snake. "Well that was intersting, Alric chuckled to the others as he glanced around the camp. He had a strange feeling that he was being watched but brushed it aside. It was probablly just some adrenelline from the fight.

Hayden looked up from across the camp to see others return and noticed Fallon, his twin sister. Getting up he walked across the camp. He wore his new armor and his katana was sheathed at his hip. He walked over to stand next to his sister giving her a nod but not saying anything.

Returning home, Mook immediately engaged in his important enterprise. Finding the Master's tent, he entered the structure. He saluted; once at ease, he moved pieces around on the map-table. "You may leave," gave the reply.

His mission thus concluded, Mook sought out his recent saviours. Being as he was familiar with shadow magic -- the most lonesome of pursuits -- it was against his nature to look for camaraderie. The urge even surprised him.

Jikorin watched as the Shadowmancer had went into the Warlord's tent to report his findings. Jikorin decided she had ought to check it out, but she also could have stuck around more for a little bit of affection. She weighed her options and found the latter much more appealing. Jikorin hesitated for a second before jumping out of the tree. It wasn't that she was afraid of getting down from a tree, after all, cats always landed on their feet. Perhaps it was just a lazy hesitation, like an old man deciding whether or not to stand up from his rocker.

Jikorin approached the woman, the root manipulator, and rubbed against her legs, circling around them. Just one of Jikorin's many acts for affections. Of course, not a single woman will turn a blind eye toward this act. Women were always more likely to show affection then men, so Jikorin often targeted them, and Jikorin knew that she was quite the ladykiller. Surely, shouldn't it be the males that are more drawn to subjugation than the females? She would then look at all the soldiers, however, whom a majority were males, and find her claim more justified.

Alric walked across the camp away from the others and walked across the camp looking around. He noticed Kotomi with her horse and approached her.

"That's a nice steed, What's it's name if I might inquire?" He asked and then before she could answer spoke quickly. "Oh and I'm Alric by the way."
----------------

Hayden nodded to his sister and smiled when she talked about brightening the place up. Then he felt her hand on his arm. He hadn't felt anything but suddenly he jumped as Jorikin landed. "Now I felt something." He said and looked down to see a cat next to them. He raised an eyebrow and chuckled just a tad for having let a cat startle him.

Kotomi

Kotomi sighed and started to dig through her messenger bag strapped to the horse's hip. She only used it for storing water or feed for her horse, not what it was made for. As she did so, Abacus started to stomp his foot on the ground, scrapping off clumps of grass. "Enough... you're going to get us both into trouble!" She whispered sharply and sternly to her horse as she pulled out a bag of oats. Kotomi poured a majority of the grains into her hand and held it up to her horse's lips. As her horse ate from the palm of her hand, she stroked his neck in a calming matter. "There, now stop fussing..."

Suddenly, Kotomi's little conversation with her pet was interrupted by a masculine voice maybe a foot or two behind her. She glanced over her shoulder at a tall, well built man, maybe late 20's or early 30's. As he complimented her horse, she gave him a nod. Kotomi opened her mouth to answer his question, but was quickly cut off by his quick introduction. She rolled her eyes and scuffled. "... His name is Abacus." She mumbled as she turned herself around to face the man now known to her as Alric. Kotomi didn't bother to introduce herself, he never asked. Although you should introduce yourself after an someone else's introduction, she didn't know that. Then again, she was never really taught proper etiquette.

Fallon released a relieved breath at the small creature, laughing a bit at her brother's response. "If you're afraid of a /cat/ I'm going to have to save your butt a million times out there..." "There" meaning the battlegrounds, if there even was one...everywhere a fight could break out. It was better to be over-prepared than not prepared enough. It did allow for some humor, though. Fallon raised a brow at the cat and crouched beside it, stroking it softly and patting her knee for the creature to hop up into her arms. It wasn't often Fallon got to interact with animals--her powers usually scared them away.

"Sweet thing..I thought cats were too sassy to like humans." Fallon chuckled before stroking its back and glancing up at her brother.

Sassy? Jikorin thought, Is that what you think of us? Jumping up into the woman's grasp, she squirmed in her arms. Looking at the other man, she stuck her tongue out at him, perhaps to tease him for his surprise when being aware of her presence. Sure, Jikorin was a big baby, but who was there to criticize her? Jikorin simply did as she liked, with no real regard for meaningless things like honor or passion. Cats made little regard to each other, and really, Jikorin thought of herself above most other cats. After all, she was more than just a cat. As for other Youkai, well, she'd very rarely met other Youkai, and Youkai cared minimally about one another, or at least under normal circumstances. After all, one would have to be selfish to want to find a way to live a long life.

Of course, achieving a long life, at least how Jikorin managed it, was more of a discipline. She needed to benefit off the dead, and people didn't just die whenever they felt like it, and even if they did, Jikorin wouldn't be feeding very often. Plus, Jikorin rarely had enough luck to be at the time and place of a person's death to collect a fresh soul. Also, as she aged, the more her magical energy intake increased, meaning she needed to feed more and more often. The aftermath of a battle would surely tie her over for at least a couple decades, centuries at the most.

Rin looked into the human's eyes with pity. She wondered exactly what would be the result of the feud. If the magic-using humans won, they'd exterminate all paranormal creatures, and she doubted they'd make much distinction between a good or bad Youkai. Jikorin would have to be able to put on a good disguise as the overall magical prowess increased in humans. Jikorin could tell it certainly already has increased for the last five hundred years of her life. While if the Paranormals won, what would become of the kingdom? Jikorin didn't know exactly what would happen. No doubt the Paranormal races are going to fight among themselves, as the difference between each other was of little more less difference than theirs with humans. Youkai would likely be on the bottom of the pedestal, just as they always have been, and Jikorin doubted that the Fox could come up with anything clever enough to change that, no matter how clever the Fox was, and Jikorin wouldn't have humans looking after her. It seemed pretty lose-lose for her in the long run, as she thought about it, but then she figured that if the Paranormals won, she could always move to another kingdom.

Hayden chuckled at his sisters comment. "We are both going to need to be careful out there sis. But I think if we combine our abilities and stick together we might be a force to reckon with." He added with a smirk. He looked down at the cat again and could have sworn it stuck it's tongue out at him. He rubbed his eyes slightly and glared down at the cat. "I don't think she likes me." He muttered.

Fallon blinked as the creature moved about her arms, causing her to chuckle once more. "Mm, you're quite the affectionate one." Her eyes met her brother's when he spoke his wise words, and she nodded. Then, as she stood back up, taking the small, furry creature with her, she shot him a knowing look. "I mean come on, it's /us/.." she said, smirking a little. Fallon wasn't usually so laid back, or social, really; but she could always let her guard down around her brother. They were basically joined at the hip. While there had been times where she wish she could just rip him to pieces, being twins allowed for her to always have someone understand her, even when she /wasn't/ herself.

"Aw, now, who couldn't like this sweet little cutie pie?" Fallon used her other hand to pinch Hayden's cheek, jostling his head about before ruffling his hair. Oh, how amusing it was to annoy her brother..

Fallon tilted her head down to the cat, not seeing any sort of collar with a name, so assumed it'd been lost or a stray. "Where did you come from, anyway?" That's when something hit her--cats, or any stray animals for that matter, didn't roam these grounds. There was nothing for them here, only the necessary resources to get humans and a few of the warhorses through the day. "I mean, for all we know I could be stroking a shape-shifter..." Fallon gave a Hayden a pensive, alert look, her arms keeping still about the cat.

Jikorin punished herself in her mind for trusting a plant mage. Somehow, Jikorin found, that she received a negative reaction from plant magic, perhaps because of her Youkai nature. She was tense for only a second, but then reassured herself. There's no way anyone one suspect a cat, she thought. After all, what kind of spy would allow themselves to be an enemy's captive willingly, as she was right then? Jikorin figured most of the humans had thought that she belonged to somebody, as more skilled magicians tended to have animal familiars, whom of which, depending on the animal, was more in tune with magic than humans were. Animals like cats and owls had great eyesight and could see the invisible workings of magic, while dogs were loyal and toads had great memory. She could have also gone with the claim that she simply tagged along after being fed, like any stray looking for food. Jikorin did catch them on the way there. Not to mention, the only creatures with the ability to shapeshift were Werewolves (whom were obviously limited to two forms) and Youkai like herself. Jikorin wasn't the best shapeshifter, but had on one or two occasions in her long life transformed into a human disguise for self-beneficial purposes, a rare occasion out of Jikorin's pride of being a cat. Plus, she had a difficulty getting the complicated swirly design of the human ear just right.

So, Jikorin concluded, the human must have been joking about fairy tails. Still, nothing was wrong with putting on a convincing act, although something was wrong with acting like a cat, when one already was a cat. Also, she was getting slightly bored of this human. Jikorin stared off into the distance, not unlike cats do, looking for something else to do. She could have entered the Warlord's tent, where she had been intending to go earlier.

So Jikorin, like any cat, supposedly with no regard for what the humans had talked about, jumped out of the woman's arms and sprinted toward the tent. Just as she was about to peer in, a woman had walked out, and Jikorin had to step out of the way. The woman saw her and gave her a funny look, a smile, a grin, something of that nature, before moving on with whatever she was going to do. Jikorin, had only watched the woman as she walked away for a second, before going back to peer inside the tent.

Hayden chuckled and then watched as the cat scurried away. "That was a bit coincidental." He stated. He glanced around the camp before turning back to his sister. "So while you were away I managed to get a new toy." Hayden said pointing to the shiny new Katana hilt sticking out by his hip.

Hekate

"You elves are always thinking too much about dignity and shame. What is done is done." Hekate shrugged her shoulders. "I have lived over hundred years. Is there something I regret? Yes. But do I let it ruin my life? No."

She walked slowly next to Gilraen. "I can tell just by looking at you that you can fight. I would say it's rare among elves. So, let me give you an advice. Go there, talk with your Queen and offer your help. Show that you're not like your family. I'm not going to ask what they have done 'cause it's not my business. But if your Queen has any sense she will accept your help."

Ronwair

Ronwair glanced over Alric. "If you have a report, put it in the pile." He said pointing the papers on the desk. "If it's something else I can give you few minutes. I need to go to talk with the Prince. Is that cat yours?" He asked when noticing Jikorin.

"Hey!" Fallon watched the cat run off, not exactly sure why it had bothered to come by in the first place, and suddenly grew suspicious. A nod to her brother indicated her agreement, but before she could move on to something else he stopped her with a gesture to his new, thin yet sharply crafted weapon.

Fallon reached out to touch it, asking, "Did you make it yourself, or..did you find it? And where?" Her gaze glistened over the sun's reflection on the hilt and she blinked her gaze away. "We can test how strong it really is, if you want." She raised a brow, silently sharing a knowing look. Fallon couldn't remember the last time they had shared a playful battle between brother and sister--it must have been years ago--where they tested their skills against one another. Of course, though they had different capabilities, it always seemed to end in a draw.

She lifted a hand to absorb the energy around her when she heard noises coming from one of the many tents on the camp; in fact, it was the tent the cat had leaped and ran off to. What was is that she heard? Talking? Bantering? Her playful expression returned to one of concern as she quietly asked her brother if he'd heard what she had.

As the human walked into the tent to speak with the warlord, Jikorin joined him, slipping in utmost inconspicuously. The Warlord had seemed to already have taken notice of her, but she didn't mind. "If you have a report, put it in the pile." Jikorin looked over toward the desk and immediately ran and hopped onto it, hoping she could learn a bit more about their situation, out of pure curiosity, such as what the enemy was planning. Unfortunately, she couldn't make heads or tails of any of the reports, at least, not before the Warlord had dealt with her. "Who the hell brought cat in the war?"

Jikorin made a couple short cries as she struggled in the human's grasp and yelped as soon as she hit the ground, perfectly on her feet, of course. She made a short hissing sound, like an exasperated sigh, as the human went back into the tent. Although, despite her previous urges to want to check out what was going on inside the tent, she had simply lost her interest altogether. Maybe she'd continue looking for humans to give her affection.

Such as that of a particular girl, perhaps no older than seventeen. Indeed, one was considered an adult once they reached fourteen, but they were still a child to Jikorin, and she likely wasn't the only one. She looked like she had no other company than her steed, so Jikorin figured she would be easy to deal with.

Slowly, Jikorin approached the girl, making no notice of her horse. Many animals whom were unrelated to each other often were rather indifferent about each other, and thus had a habit of ignoring each other entirely, humans and dogs being exceptions. The horse, if it was unaware of her Youkai nature, probably thought of the cat just the same. Standing at the girl's feet, Jikorin meowed softly.

Kotomi shot a glare at the male as he walked away. "Tch... you think you're so hilarious, don't you?" She growled. The young girl turned back to her horse and took a comb out of her pack, starting to brush out the horse's stringy hair. Kotomi always wanted her horse to be presentable, mostly because it shows that she can indeed provide for herself and others.

Just then, she heard a meow below her. Kotomi glanced down at the ground. Her eyes laid on a cat. She blinked, Kotomi had nothing against cats, but never really became fond of them either. Nevertheless, Kotomi shrugged and got down on her knees, petting the cat's head gently.

Jay ran a hand through her hair nervously. She was late, she knew that. That was her own fault. She'd hesitated about coming. And now, it seemed they may need her. Sighing, she walked into the camp, trying to attract little attention. She wished to not be noticed, but of course that would be impossible. Her red hair made her near impossible to not miss.

She looked around her. Tents were all pegged into the ground around the area, and over in the distance she could see a young girl with a horse, and a man walking away. She got to her knees, stroking something, and Jane looked away. She had never really had much experience with animals, let alone something as big as a horse. She leaned against a tree, waiting for something to happen.

After not much happening, Jane muttered a few words, and at the tip of her left index finger, a small flame came to life, fluttering in the wind of her breath as Jane examined the flame. She had total control, there was nothing to worry about... "Just control it." She whispered to herself, captivated by the orange glow of her magic. A sudden shout, and darkness made her jump, and all of a sudden the flame jumped up, out of control, and Jane felt it happen again. She closed her hand into a fist, cutting off the spell, and doubled over, squeezing her eyes shut, before opening her eyes and correcting herself once the pain had passed.

Why was it dark?

Confused, Jane called out. "Hello? What happened?" She didn't want to use a spell again to light her way. It was too dangerous. Blinking, she looked around herself, to no avail. She called out again. "Hello?"

As darkness fell, Jikorin's eyes darted from the left to the right as she felt the hand leave her. Were they under attack? They, of course, referred to the humans, and Jikorin didn't need to worry about an attack against them, as she could easily get out of any situation. Of course, this particular one was still alarming, at the very least. The darkness had to be done by some form of magic, probably from the enemy. Yet, Jikorin was unaware of any sort of creature with the ability to do so, so it must have been some form of a Mystic's spell. Sabotage? Naturally, Jikorin decided, out of curiosity, she'd find out.

Being a Cat Youkai, Jikorin had better eyesight than the humans, especially in the darkness, so her eyes could pick up more light. Still, it was very dim, and the chaos made it hard to make out any enemies. She decided to give herself a little light. Shaking her fur, she released a couple dim blue will-o-wisps into the air. These will-o-wisps, of course, were the few extra souls she carried on her, and with only a spark of magic, they'd glow phosphorescently until the poor unlucky things burnt out. Consuming and burning human souls, Jikorin cared little for the dead, except for the fact that they were necessary for extending her own life and to cast her own magic. If anything, it was out of pity, ending the existences of the departed lives that could not pass on into the afterlife, wherever that was, and remained on the Earth until the end of days, unable to do anything but fuel their Earthly desires, becoming poltergeists, evil spirits or misleading will-o-wisps, something of which often took unfathomable amounts of time. The existence of such creatures, in fact, is not even acknowledged.

Yes, it was out of pity, Jikorin would keep telling herself.

While humans might see the ghostly fireballs in the pure darkness, Jikorin would see so much more, even what she was looking for. A creature was speaking with one of the clueless humans, a winged creature of some sort. He must have been the source, but exactly what he was, Jikorin couldn't tell. It made Jikorin wonder the exact nature between him and the human. Jikorin didn't see any other creatures, so perhaps this one was trying to hide itself so it could speak in secret with the human. Perhaps the human was a spy, a saboteur, of some sort. Perhaps she could pick up some interesting facts from watching the two.

Running up into the tree behind them, her being practically silent, she watched them with her ruby-colored eyes. A thought came across Jikorin's mind; why did the Paranormals need the human spy? She was fully human, as far as Jikorin could tell. A Werewolf could pass off as a convincing human, or a Vampire with a couple enchantments. A Youkai, like a fox or racoon dog, even Jikorin herself, would also be able to pass off as a convincing human, or just turn invisible, so why would they need a human spy? Maybe, the Fox wasn't directly supporting the rest of the Paranormals quite yet, perhaps the other races had not accepted the Youkai yet. Maybe the Paranormals are afraid that the humans may be smart enough to pick out a Werewolf or Vampire spy. Yet, would they really trust a human?

Jikorin would have to observe more to understand more.

Jane Phillips

Jane looked up as a young man approached her. He introduced himself as Lunio, and Jane immediately thought that he was hiding something. She couldn't tell quite what, yet, but he just had that... Air about him. Besides, it was dark, and she couldn't really see him properly. Hoping he was just, as he said, a Shadow Mystic, Jane bit her lip. There was something... Off... about the whole situation.

She decided to play it cool.

Raising an eyebrow, she asked him; "Oh, so it was you who put down the blanket of darkness... Did you get lost, or something?" She asked it really sweetly, so it didn't really sound like she was patronizing him, but in reality, she was. She smiled at him, tilting her head slightly to the side.

Through the darkness, she spotted a few glowing balls of blue light, and something moving back there. She pretended not to notice, hoping he didn't notice her eyes flicking over to the spot. She met his eyes again quickly, looking into them. Maybe they'd give her some sort of hint to what sort of person he was. She huffed, and her eyes darted to the ground. Yes, he was hiding something... What, though...

She wished for more light.
