The flight had been as always, flirting with the cute stewardess, getting her number and a kiss before he was off into the Airport. It was a rather small one when compared to Tokyo's airport, but when compared to other regional airports it was quite a large one.
"
Flight to Nagasaki is underway, but technical problems have caused it to be 10 minutes late. We are terribly sorry for any inconveniences. Passengers for this flight are allowed to wait in the "Japan Air Lounge" all other flights are running on time." a speaker scratched. It was an impersonal voice. Female, yet hard to put a face to...
Frederick walked down the overtly clean aisles before he arrived at the exit. Outside was a hell of warmth in the dusk. The air was thick with smog from the hundreds of cabs all hoping to get a last customer before their shift was over.
Frederick quickly got one from his usual more luxurious service. Izu Transport. The car was a Mercedes, toned black windows and a slim figure. It was the perfect vehicle for someone of his status Frederick agreed with himself.
"Good day sir. Have you had a pleasant flight to Izu?" his driver asked, bowing quickly before opening the door for him. "Quite. I'd like you to drive me to Akima Boulevard 199." he said in a friendly voice, smiling at the driver. "Erm... I'm sorry, I'm new at the job." the young man said, suddenly very nervous. "Could you give me some sort of pinpoint to go for?"
"Drive to Hokito Square and make a turn around Sakura Hotel and then its just 7 blocks down. Not a long way..." he said, implying at last that he might just take someone else's cab.
The young man stood at attention, suddenly a lot more attentive. "Of course sir. I'll make sure that the ride will be comfortable."
Frederick seated himself in the cab. It was comfortable, the large German car was made for the moderately rich, so of course it was also an extended version with a small collection of treats, alcohol and cigars. Frederick made sure to make a glass of rum and cola, before the driver started the car.
"What's your name kid?" Frederick asked arrogantly. The driver swallowed hard, afraid that verbal abuse was inbound. "My name is Atsuka Horo, sir." he said, his voice trembling slightly.
"Okay then, Atsuka Horo, I'd like you to come to my address again tomorrow morning and pick me up at 6:30 AM. And also, could you roll up the screen, I'd like some privacy." he said, enjoying the nodding driver, intimidated by his client. "Oh and Atsuka. I'll pay in cash." he said as the dividing glass came up between them.
While driving through the rich night-life of Komamu, he turned on the news, another idiot trying to kill himself for this 'Kira' person... And now someone who called himself Commotion was in on it too.
Frederick had heard of Commotion before, his father had mentioned it when he told him about a Chinese sabotage case. A branch of the Chinese triads had been tracked down and imprisoned with the help of this Commotion person...
Frederick began thinking about it. A book which supposedly could kill people across the country had just dropped into his hands, and some sick-o named "Killer" had chosen to execute people, showing his power over death and life. The same power which he himself held...
"Maybe there is more than one book." Frederick mumbled as the car turned down on the mainstreet.
"If so... can I make people commit suicide too? I'll try it out tomorrow morning..."
"And what about this Commotion? He's going to become a complication to me too..."
"I'll have to eliminate him and Kira. Make sure that I'm safe using the book and the only one possessing this newfound ability."
He argued with himself for a little, before sinking into silence as the street lights illuminated his face. Something was horribly wrong.
"Maybe I should just put the book away... wait for the right time to use it..."
"No way! This Kira is getting all the attention! If I want in on it too, then I'll have to use the book too, even if I can't make people yell things, only die!"
"But the possibility of getting caught! Or worse the real Kira might turn up on my doorstep and kill ME!"
"Nah, I'm smarter than that. I'll figure something out, make it impossible for them to target me. And then I'll make them come out into the open. And I'll kill them."
"Sure. Go get me killed, that's what I'll do. Don't even look at the consequences."
He shaked the Altar-ego off of his shoulders and took up his phone. Speed dialling.
"Yes? This is Mr. Tokomura's office, you're speaking with his secretary Yohomi."
"This is Frederick Naokomi. I'd like to speak to Mr. Tokomura." he said, his voice soft and open. Indeed a snake's voice, dripping with honey.
"I'll put you through Mr. Naokomi." she answered, before letting him through to Tokomura's personal telephone.
"This is Tokomura, make it quick Naokomi, I'm about to start my meal." a deep voice rung out.
Tokomura was the boss of Top Media Inc. and American media giant which had established itself after the reconstruction of Japan after the 2nd world war. It had control of several newspapers and with Top-TV and Top-Pop Radio. And it was slowly spreading into the online media, it'd even set up it's own hosting services...
"Mr. Tokomura. I'm sorry to interrupt you at such an hour. But I'm calling regarding my previous manager. After his untimely death, his position has been made available. So I was wondering if it was possible that I could take over his position? I have good managemental abilities and I've been in the business for 5 years."
. . .
"Mr. Naokomi, don't use the death of your previous boss to advance your own position in such a ruthless and inelegant way... I'll take your appliance for the job into consideration. I'll call you back tomorrow with my decision..."
"Thank you sir. I'm honoured that you consider me an option." Frederick said, almost ready to scream out his success. The fact that the big boss had even waited to give his final answer was a good indicator that he'd already been under consideration.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight, sir."
Frederick felt like popping a bottle of champagne, but then again... he was alone in a cab. And drinking with the driver wouldn't really be becoming for one of his status. He'd just call for a party at his place, inviting some of his closest friends... and by that, he wouldn't even know every tenth of them.
Frederick - Top-Pop Radio - Day 2
The whole station was in disarray when he arrived. They'd all heard by then that he was their new boss. The eerie silence was almost destroying when he entered the lobby. No one was congratulating him on his new job. Not even a single one was smiling.
He smiled at them, before he waved in a couple of of people. Most of them carrying some boxes with a foreign label on them. Wine and champagne, quite the expensive kind.
"Come on folks! Let's start out fresh, eh? Don't want all of you to flee from your new boss!" Frederick exclaimed at the shocked crowd.
"Ehm... Congratulations boss!?" a voice from the back said, a trickle before the storm of congratulations. People began crowding around him to shake his hand and get a glass of champagne and a good laugh.
"Let them play some pop by Mizuki Haoro to show our support to her family and friends for the next two hours. We'll make sure to celebrate for real before we go back to work!" he yelled, waving with a bottle of champagne.
"This is the 1200 News. I'm your host, Frederick Naokomi and I'm about to rock your world!" Fredrick exclaimed his voice all hyped and ready to tell Japan about his plan. His Station had been chosen for this month's News, for an entire month he was able to broadcast to all of Japan. He was setting the agenda on the radio.
"Today Hakita Shihiro, a renowned criminal in Kobe, shot two police officers in the street. The police in Kobe have told our reporter that Hakita Shihiro is still on the loose. As of now they have no evidence as to the place where Hakita is hiding and they have two men in body-bags. The two officers, Hauru and Hotomura, 21 and 34 were both trying to negotiate with the criminal before they were shot. Hotomaru's wife and two children have not been contacted due to their problematic situation.
The police in Kobe ask any contributions as to the whereabouts of Hakita to be passed on to the officials. Also, informations and pictures taken within the last twenty-four-hours have been published on Top-Media.Jp. Please check up on these informations, to make sure you can identify this criminal and act accordingly. He is armed and a danger to the populace.
Continuing, a new menace has risen in Komamu. A vigilante or murderer only known as 'Kira', have in the past 24 hours killed 3 criminals in the Izu Region. Local police and the Japanese Intelligence Agency have not wanted to comment on the case, as it becomes more and more evident that this Kira person is an omni-potent figure. A person who wants to bring justice to the people, but in doing so abandons the rights of a fair trial.
Kira, if you're out there listening, then I have to ask you to turn yourself in. We all know of pain and fear, but you can't destroy all of it. If you give up now, then I'm sure that there will be a fair trial, even for the likes of you...
For more information on the Kira case, visit TopVlog.Top-Media.Jp where our private investigator will be posting his findings about Kira, starting this evening at 11'o'clock PM. Make sure to be there, when he unveils untill now totally unknown secrets about Kira!
And now to Hakodate, where beloved pop-idol Mizuki Haoro died yesterday, reportedly a heart failure..."
...
Fredrick leant back after the broadcast was over. Kira would without a doubt be hearing of this. He'd probably become a frequent listener... if things turned out the way he planned. He looked at his clock, 13:00.
After this he could just let the crew do the rest. The new day-to-day host was a an old authoritarian man who had a deep and thrilling voice. Perfect for the younger assembly who listened to Top-Pop for the music. An old man with substantially no power as he was playing music he didn't even understand. The only plus of hiring him was that he could apply to those who now also would be zooming in for the 1200 News.
Frederick walked out the main entrance, smiling at the secretary in the lobby. Most of the day had been good, now only his flight and party this evening was in front of him... and of course he still had to test his ability... Oh, and make that blog for his "secret investigator". The blog was hosted and protected by Top-Media, a part of a deal he'd struck with the Board as a part of a campaign in getting more listeners.
Things were definitely going his way... he thought as his cab waited. He also, couldn't wait to get that driver in Komamu to personally pick up his VIP guests...
