Introduction
In a world where humans are nothing more than a life source to the vampires comes a revolution no one can hide from.
It's been happening all over the world; vampires have been making truces with humans through deals of money, marriage, and power. One country at a time, they've offered their compromise. If the humans would stop coming after the legendary creatures with stakes and flames, the vampires would return the favor by keeping their victims alive after they fed. Instead of leaving the drained bodies on the street to die, they would take only the blood they needed and leave them able to walk away practically unharmed.
Because of these new vampire laws being passed, human/vampire marriages have become more popular. After all, what could be better than having a spouse to feed on regularly? You don't have to worry about attracting any attention from screaming victims on the streets, after all! But alas, there are still many nations of the world that have yet to accept the white flag that the vampires have put up. Many countries don't trust their claims of peace between the races.
Germany is one of the remaining countries that have yet to accept their proposal... until now. The royal heirs of both human and vampire societies are betrothed, leaving half of the country in an uproar and the other half in unrestrained excitement as the wedding unfolds. Welcome to the revolutionized Germany.

Her dress was one her mother had worn before as well. Vampires had family traditions as well. Aavyn couldn't believe today was her wedding day. It seemed like just yesterday she was killing humans without a second thought and now she is being married to one of them. It wasn't her choice of husband to say the least. Holding a straight face she continued to look at herself in the long mirror hanging on the wall. Lucky for her it was the only mirror she could see herself in. She hated that in any other mirror she couldn't see herself in it. But she wasn't going to complain to her parents and get a long lecture in return. "Here darling." Her mother handed her a pair of black roses seeing it was a family tradition of theirs. Whenever someone in their family was married the bride would always carry black roses with her.
"Thank you mother." Kissing her mother on the cheek her father decided to look in the room. "You look beautiful." He gave a smile of approval before giving her a quick hug. Unlike most weddings her father wasn't going to walk her down the isle. She was to walk by herself to show her independence. Her father gave her a small squeeze and a kiss on the cheek before walking out of the room. "Are you ready? Remember to carry yourself as a woman of status." Her mother placed her pointer finger under her daughters chin and tilted it up more. "Don't forget you are representing your family name." As if Aavyn didn't already know such a thing. She gave her mother a smile letting her know she understood. After another hug her mother walked out of the room. Taking a deep breath she walked out of the room as well. She waited for her to walk down the isle. In the meantime she took the time to enjoy the Gothic architecture of the church they were in.

"Keep your hands in their place, boy!" A stern, hearty voice came from his right. Simon had already instinctively began to pout before he straightened up his spine and stood taller than his uncle who assumed authority over him. Today was a day of pride, his father had told him. It had put him into a mindset that he was so used to: even if you're not, put on a show that you're better than the others around you. Afterall, his family was at the top of society, and he did so long to show it. However, he couldn't deny that meeting his vampire bride intimidated him. Would she act as if he was beneath her? Simon supposed he would soon find out.
His uncle scurried off to the door which led directly to the alter, and then gave a rushed wave to attempt to hurry the process. Alexander, a human taller than he who donned black hair, brown eyes, and freckles, put a hand on Simon's arm and started leading him towards the door. "The bride is waiting. Make your family proud." Alexander gave Simon a shove, and he flew through the door, nearly tripping on a step up he hadn't seen. All of the groomsmen rushed past Simon to take their place at the alter immediately, leaving Simon in the dust. He hurried his way up the black metal steps to the top of the alter, underneath an archway of vines, and both black and red flowers.
Simon straightened his bowtie and looked around the dark church. The architect of the church must have had a love for spires and the color black for they were everywhere that black rails weren't. The only thing that wasn't black was the white tile floor, but even that was covered by a long black carpet that the bride would walk down shortly. Simon began to search the room. At first all he could see was red eyes on the left pews, and then learned that on the right side were humans. He supposed it was better that they be separated for the ceremony... just in case. Simon, along with most of Germany, was still hesitant to trust them.
Finally he spotted her. The one who only her name he knew, Aavyn. She carried a bouquet of black roses in her hand. Simon turned to his best man and Alexander said to him, "She's a creature of the night... her appearance says it all. Are you ready for this?" Simon tried to swallow but his mouth was dry. Thoughts ran through his mind, majoring in questions. Would he be able to tolerate staring into those red eyes for the rest of his life? Or growing old when she would stay young? "We'll find out in a moment, won't we?"
Realizing that Simon still had a few moments to spare, he scurried away from the alter to the left wall of the church, walking down to the entrance of the building where she stood. He felt the crimson eyes following his figure and felt uncomfortable but walked tall and ignored them. As he approached her, he cleared his throat. She was beautiful, and so independent for being so young. "Aavyn, am I right? Welcome to my wedding. Errm, our wedding, I suppose," he stuttered out.

Her eyes traveled to both sides of the isle. Humans on one and vampires on the other. wasn't this wedding to get everyone to mix together? It angered her a little if she got married and nothing changed. Why was it easier for other countries and not Germany? Shrugging the question off she watched as the other bridesmaids and best-men take their proper places. Eventually her eyes made their way to land on her future husband Simon. He did look good for a human, that she did have to admit. She watched him for the longest time as if she was trying to get to know him better by simply staring at him. Her red iris's followed him until he stood by her side. She gave him a polite courtesy as a greeting then looked back forward. "Yes I am Aavyn, which means you are Simon. Pleased to meet you."
It felt weird saying such a thing to a person you are supposed to be married to in about five minutes. "Yes this is our wedding and we just met each other." She looked to the side not meaning to say that. It just slipped out before she even had to chance to realize what she was saying. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to say that." Surely she would be killed if her parents heard her say such a complaint. Watching everyone stand up it caused her to straighten her posture a bit more. Wrapping her arm around his she started to walk down the isle. Her parents looked ecstatic while some of the other vampires looked like they had blood lust in their eyes. If they were supposed to be high class vampires why couldn't they control themselves? They were all going to get a good scolding from her after the wedding was over. Keeping her head high she let go of his arm when they reached the alter. Handing her flowers to Melissa she turned to face Simon. Reaching out she grabbed both of his hands. Aavyn stared into his eyes trying to figure out more about him.

He couldn't help but crack a smile as Aavyn said something that put her out of line. She quickly apologized, looking almost fearful as her eyes searched the room to be sure that her family was not within earshot. Simon noted that she must come from a very disciplined family. Perhaps they weren't the bloodthirsty creatures he assumed them to be... but it was also too soon to tell. "All is well. I must say that I wasn't expecting my life to quite turn out this way either..."
Suddenly the traditional German wedding march began to play on the organs of the church, filling the cathedral with ominous music. The guests began to rise to stand upright, the vampires in position much sooner than the humans. Aavyn looped her arm around his, and he straighted his spine yet again. When had he become such a sloucher? He wondered.
Both looks of excitement and scowls followed their bodies as they walked slowly down the aisle. While they walked, Simon began to realize just how little he knew of her. Her age, her birthday, even family tradition. "All of this truly is for show, isn't it?" He murmured, just quiet enough for her to hear. He suddenly hoped that he hadn't offended her but he felt uncomfortable at her side. Simon could feel the strength in the arm he held, and she was simply resting it within his. They reached the alter after what felt like an painfully slow walk. She put away her flowers to one of her bridesmaids, or perhaps the maid of honor. Simon didn't know. He took her hands and she stared into his eyes. He tried to hold eye contact, but the crimson seemed to swirl throughout his mind until that was all he saw. The color of blood; it was mesmerizing him. Alexander gave him a pat on the back. The priest, dressed in black, began to recite the vows to them at the same time Simon began to feel trapped. His nerves were on edge until he found Aavyn's eyes again, and as horrifying as they were to him, they kept him in place. While the priest turned the page of the holy book, Simon spoke quietly. "Assure me I'm not the only nervous one, dear?"

If it was up to her, her wedding would be a little more simple. Plus she wouldn't invite vampires she had no idea who they were. A lot of them were from other countries. Like Russia, Paris, and even China. It was all quite the show, so she had to agree with Simon on that one. Aavyn loosened her grip on his arm a little allowing it to rest there. She had to remember he was a human so what felt light to her might have been heavy to him. She had a small smile seeing he could only hold her gaze for so long. Were her eyes truly scary? Well she wouldn't really know seeing she can't see herself in mirrors. There was something about him though that was slightly appealing. Good at least she could stand her new husband right? How long will it truly last though?
She came out of her thoughts when she heard Simon say something to her. "No I'm a little nervous too." She gave a small smile one she doesn't show too many people. It soon faded however when she caught a glare from her mother out of her peripheral. Looking back at Simon her face became blank again not wanting to get in trouble. After the priest finished reading, he he allowed the pair to kiss to seal the deal per say. Well to her she saw it more as a deal then anything. Aavyn looked at him a bit worried. She hadn't kissed too many people before. Leaning in she gave him a quick kiss on the lips then pulled away. What she missed was she had slightly sunk her fangs into his lip causing it to bleed a little. Her eyes widened at the mistake she just made. How did she end up biting him?! "I'm so sorry." She quickly apologized hoping no one saw the little bit of blood on his lip.
Setting

As she pulled away, however, Simon felt a stinging pain in his lower lip. The pain only increased to a burning feeling, and he instinctively reached up to touch it. His fingers revealed a minor amount of blood. It wasn't a big deal, it was something that would heal over in the morning. However, it sent the entire left side of the room into a gasp of shock. He realized that the humans must not have caught on to what happened. Aavyn quickly apologized, and now Simon felt terrible for bringing her accident to everyone's attention. "Oh... no, I'm sorry. It isn't a big deal," he tried to reassure his wife and his wife alone, but he forgot that one side of the room could still listen in. How long would it take him to remember things like vampires can hear really well?
Whispers broke out around the room, starting with the creatures of the night. Simon could hear the front row murmur things like, "She couldn't even refrain from a bite of his flesh this soon... this truce will never work out," and "I hope this isn't an omen." Simon hoped that these things wouldn't upset Aavyn, until he realized that she could hear many more disapproving comments than he ever could. He felt her grip on his hands tighten and Simon pretended that it didn't hurt. He ducked his head slightly to capture eye contact with her. "Dear, don't get upset. I'm fine. This marriage will work, I promise you. We'll show them."

Hearing the music start to play again she turned to face the crowd before her. Her grip on his hand loosened a little seeing as his words had helped her somewhat. As they descended down the aisle she ignored the disapproving looks. Hopefully the humans wouldn't see any vestige of the blood on Simon's lip. Taking a deep breath she continued to walk down the aisle. The humans seemed to be slightly worried as where the vampires looked somewhat cold and distant. Aavyn had a feeling things wouldn't really changed because her and Simon got married. Hopefully she was wrong. Once they made it out of the wedding hall she released his hand.
It was only a short moment before her parents stormed up to her, yet they still had a certain amount of elegance to them. "We will see you at the reception darling." Her mother spoke to Simon before taking Aavyn's hand. She led her back into where she had prepared for the wedding. "Do you know what people were saying about you?" Her mother asked with the emotion of anger in her voice. "I never want to see such skeptical again. This is affect all of the vampires in Germany. Act accordingly." Her mother left the room leaving an angered Aavyn. She knew it was coming but it was still frustrating. Cracking her neck she turned to the door and walked out. This was already proving to be hard. The fact remained she was starting to crave blood already.

Simon listened closely. It was almost hard to hear her over the whispers in the crowd. There were so many things to distract him right now, but he knew that he had to comfort the wife he barely knew. Why did he feel so obligated to make sure she was alright? After all, half of the reason vampire/human marriages are arranged were only so the human could be used as a blood bank. Simon shuddered. How many times would he feel Aavyn's teeth meeting his flesh? This was only the first of many.
The music loomed throughout the cathedral once more, and he followed beside her down the aisle. Simon kept swallowing small amounts of his own blood, only so no one would see it pool on his lip. He felt like nothing more than prey as he walked just feet away from potentially thirsty vampires with a bleeding lip.
The laws would become active today. They were already active, as a matter of fact. From now on, it was punishable by death for a vampire to kill a human being through the process of bleeding them dry. It made Simon relax slightly, even as Aavyn's mother came up to the newly weds. "I'm looking forward to conversing with you both," he said to her mother and his bride. Her mother whisked her away, and Simon immediately went in search of his parents.
When he found them, they welcomed him with an awkward group hug. "We were informed of what happened. You handled that well, son. You're doing a good thing for this country." It was only the beginning of the night, and Simon felt exhausted. He would have to snag a few drinks at the reception. "Thank you. I believe I'm going to go out to the courtyard for a breath of air."
As he headed for the back door, he caught sight of his bride and motioned her to follow him, though he didn't look twice to see if she was really going to. The courtyard behind the church was where the reception would take place. It had tables with red cloths draped over them, a beautiful garden full of delicate white wooden benches, and candles or lanterns lit the scene. A large oak tree covered with hanging candles was the primary decoration. Beneath it, a servant stood with various drinks. Simon picked up two, assuming that Aavyn had followed. He turned to start walking towards her, but found her standing right next to him. The alcoholic shots spilled when he jumped back, but thankfully spilled on the grass and not either of their clothes. Simon blushed slightly and picked up two more off the tray, offering Aavyn one.
"You vampires are stealthy," he said, unsure of whether she would take that as a compliment. He watched the church door open as one guest after another poured into the courtyard. "I don't know if alcohol affects you, but I know I could use a drink before the politics begin." Simon watched his parents enter the yard and quickly downed his drink before they could catch sight of him consuming anything that would alter his brain at this hour.

"Good this is your wedding still. It doesn't matter who you marry just as long as your happy right? Though I do hope you suck him dry." Melissa smiled wickedly at her then started to walk away to go talk to someone else. "You never know." Aavyn talked to herself before turning in the direction her friend was telling her Simon went. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Simon come out the back door of the building. Giving him a small nod she followed him when he motioned for her to follow him. Now that she thinks about it if she doesn't like him he will die eventually anyways. What's twenty to thirty years of being unhappy out of an eternity? Aavyn silently followed behind him across the yard.
She chuckled to the stealth comment. "Yeah we get that a lot." She smiled at him then realized he spilled the drinks. "Cute." She was referring to him blushing then gladly took the drink he had handed her a second time. "Thank you." She took a sip even though it would do absolutely nothing to her. The only thing she needs is blood nothing more. "Oh it doesn't have any affect on me. Even though you see a lot of vampires drinking alcohol, they are only doing it to be polite to humans." Her eyes were averted from Simon to the people who were slowly flooding into the room. Drinking the rest of her drink she sat it on the table then turned back to Simon. "Your parents don't like you drinking?" Aavyn asked holding back a chuckle seeing him trying to quickly down his drink.

Aavyn had a look of amusement on her face as he downed his drink quickly. "Your parents don't like you drinking?" She questioned. Simon eagerly shook his head and then spoke without thinking. "Goodness, no. They'd have my head if they saw me drinking. They believe it to be improper. A bit comical, considering they just sealed a deal for your kind to drink whenever they wish as long as they don't kill them." Immediately to his left, he heard a low, lethal hiss. Simon instinctively turned to face the sound and saw that he was face-to-face with a hotheaded vampire. The hiss he had heard was a low growl that came from his throat.
"Watch your tongue, child," he warned. "I'm not the only one here who may decide that they're feeling thirsty." Simon swallowed, feeling the alcohol rise back up in his throat. Realizing that he was still the son of the highest human family in Germany, he stood a little taller, showing that he was the same height as the male vampire. "Haven't you any manners at a wedding?"
"Simon!" His mother screeched. She smacked him upside the head, to which he reacted by rubbing the stinging spot. "Do you forget of their abilities? Aavyn, I'm sorry if my son offended you as well." It finally clicked in Simon's mind that Aavyn had heard his comment as well and he sighed, still rubbing his head. He turned to her to see if she was angry and hoped she wasn't. "I didn't mean to upset anyone. I just found it ironic, that's all."

Aavyn didn't want to offend him or anything. Her eyes showed a bit of shock hearing his comment about the agreement between humans and vampires. She looked at the vampire who heard his comment then shook her head trying to get him to calm down a little. But she knew the vampire wouldn't try anything to her new husband. Of course it would be rude of him to do anything. "Okay gentlemen everything is going to be fine. I'm sure you can settle this in a calm manner." Aavyn quickly tried to defuse the situation.
She jumped when she heard Simon's mother come and yell at him. "Oh no it's fine. I'm not offended by it." She flashed her brilliant smile to his mother trying to be on her best behavior. She turned back to Simon and rested her hand on his cheek and smiled at him as well. "I've heard worse. Don't fret over it." She let her hand fall to her side. Aavyn glanced at the dance floor seeing it was her and Simon's time to share a dance. "I think everyone is waiting for us to dance now." Everyone's eyes were once on them again waiting for them to make a move. Had they seen Simon's mother yelling at him? Surely not. Holding her hand out she waited for him to take it so they can get this dance over with.

Simon felt as though his little bubble of personal space had been demolished as all eyes turned to the newlyweds. "Oh, um. I'm not much of a dancer, really..." His mother gave him a little shove on the back, and Simon tightened his grip on Aavyn's hand. "Get it done well," she snapped at him before putting on a cheesy grin and began the clapping. The other guests caught on, and began clapping their hands until they were silenced by the start of a classical theme. Simon led her to the center of the yard and turned to face her. "I apologize if this won't be what you pictured," he said. Simon had taken a ballroom dancing class when he was a young boy, but he hadn't practiced in so many years.
Taking her hand in one of his and then placing his hand on the hip of her wedding gown, he took a breath and took steps to the music. Simon took this time to notice the features he hadn't caught on to before. Her small waistline, her shoulders that appeared to be so fragile. Her face was divine, even if he did find it hard to hold eye contact with such a stunning red for the time being. "I also apologize that I haven't mentioned how lovely you look." It wasn't often that Simon complimented someone other than himself, but he meant it. Perhaps it was the shot of alcohol talking.

Hopefully his mother will like it... Seeing he was her new husband she did have the right to worry about him a little right? She looked up at him when she heard him saying something to her. "Oh don't worry about it. Like I said before if you forget any steps you can follow me. I've had a lot of years to practice." She laughed loud enough for only him to hear her. It was common among vampires to laugh about how old they were. Knowing Simon was a human he might not get it though. She held onto his hand giving a light squeeze showing she was fully supporting him. Her other hand made it to his shoulder then she gave him a small grin. Once he started to move she easily followed not even having to think about it.
Looking into his eyes seemed somewhat...peaceful. "Thank you. You also look very handsome. I'm sure if there was any form of blood running through my veins I would be blushing by your comment." Aavyn couldn't help but notice all of the other vampires looking at her as if her comment was so awful. They all probably thought she wished to be human, which wasn't the case at all. It was just her trying to make nice conversation. The last thing she wanted to be was a human. Of course she wasn't going to say this to her newly human husband. "Your not such a bad dancer." She didn't have to lead him so far so he was doing pretty well. From the way he was talking she would have thought he was going to be awful.
Setting

He couldn't help but feel his ego build as she mentioned that he looked handsome. He wasn't quite sure how to take the comment about not being able to blush, so he just smiled along and hoped he wasn't supposed to say anything. Simon watched her eyes switch from his to the crowd around them, and his followed. It would appear that many of them were still very much opposed to everything going on in front of their crimson eyes.
"You're not such a bad dancer," she had told him. Simon chuckled to himself. "I suppose I just got lucky today then. You're a rather excellent dancer," he admitted. The melody of the song slowed to a conclusion but he hesitated from walking away from the dance floor so soon. "Dear, I don't know you but you intrigue me. Far more than any other lady I've been introduced to," he noticed he had gained a couple of glares from the young women in the crowd after that comment. "When all of this is said and done, what do you say we go out and do something tonight? Anything to simply get to know each other a little more." In all honesty, Simon was growing somewhat tired and didn't want to go out, but didn't want to risk an awkward night if he proposed the idea to her tomorrow night. This was going to be an interesting relationship, he realized. Simon very much liked his sleep, but he would have to stay up late to keep his wife entertained. He hoped the difference in their sleeping patterns wouldn't put too much of a strain on their new marriage.
Setting

Turning back to him she gave a small smile. "You're too kind. I must admit though you have changed my perception of mere mortals." Flashing her brilliant charming smile she ignored the stares she knew the couple were receiving. "Go out? Yes, it does sound like a rather delightful idea. I think it will also relieve some stress from having to smile to everyone all night." She wasn't sure about him but to have to smile to every person she looked at, especially the humans, it began to become tiring for her. Of course in a physical sense she wasn't tired.
Glancing over her shoulder she saw her friend Melissa come up behind her. "My I forgot you could dance so well." The girl gave Avyn a pat on her shoulder then turned to look at Simon. "Don't worry about tonight me good sir. My friend here doesn't bite hard when she takes someones blood." Melissa always hated humans and that probably was never going to change. Avyn cut her a sharp deathly glare not believing her friend brought up such a touchy conversation. Of course it was in everyone's minds, that she was certain of. How would a vampire get along with not taking their betrothed's blood? Surely they need to get it from somewhere or else they will eventually in a sense starve to death. "Don't listen to her she is only playing with you."
