Personality

Jessica is a very relaxed person. She just lays back and takes life as it comes, keeping things simple. She unfortunately did not get the benefit of a formal education. Thus, she has a somewhat uneducated view of the world. Despite this, she is generally pleasant to be around, but can become intolerantly dismissive when argued with at times. She also doesn't see the benefit of an education. Luckily, she is not overly prone to become offended at teasing, and is more likely to ignore someone or walk away when she knows she is being teased. She seems to be a natural tomboy, not obsessing over stupid things like hating pink but rather simply sometimes demonstrating a disregard for femininity.

Derek Burns walked along the dirt path and looked around. The trees loomed high in the sky as always and he felt the familiar dark feeling that would always come from inside the woods. Most would try and avoid this place but Derek felt most comfortable wandering through the Twisted Path. He was not the only one, as the houndoom that trotted along beside him let out a relaxed yawn. Burns smiled as he looked down at his long time friend and partner Sarge. He patted the black and maroon canine between the horns and smiled as they continued on their walk.

Jessica Stark strolled along through the forest, a rather blank look on her face. Normally she was a great fan of the outdoors, and of exploring, but something about this place unnerved her. She couldn't quite place her finger on it. Never-the-less, she had decided to come on through. She walked alone, or so it seemed. She had on a belt containing several pokeballs. After some time walking, she began to wonder exactly how large this forest was. That is, until she spotted another figure coming around a bend not far in the distance. Up until then the trees had obscured each other from sight, but now they were only a handful of meters away. Perhaps it was the prolonged silence, but she felt compelled to approach, if not but to say hi. She of course would wait to actually speak until she got closer, though her eyes had moved to meet his, acknowledging him.

Derek Burns walked along feeling quite relaxed along with his houndoom. The two shared much in common, in fact Derek's folks always joked around saying that he was the same type as the pokemon. Even though he would always put on an annoyed expression at the statement he had to admit that it was not far fetched. For example they both felt immensly comfortable in the dark atmosphere of the woods that would intimidate others. As Derek rounded the bend he heard his houndoom release a low growl.Derek looked up to see a young woman walking towards him. When she looked at him at first Derek returned her gaze with a friendly smile and a small wave. It was not until the distance between them shortened that he noticed the poke balls on her belt. He hid his feeling of dissapointment from his expression as he looked back up at her. "Hello there." He said politely.

Jessica Stark slowed to a stop a handful of feet away, raising one hand to wave to the man. In the presence of another she had become cheery again and was smiling to show it.

"Evenin'!"

She spoke pretty casually, and seemed to have a rather noticeable southern dialect. She didn't seem to mind the growling Houndoom all that much. If she did, she didn't show it. After a moment she went on to speak up again.

"Aren't these woods just eerie?"

She sought reassurance of her feelings regarding the forest's presence; not because she was having difficulty telling for herself, but simply because she was happy to have someone to talk to. As nice as her pokemon were, she simply couldn't have a conversation with them!

"Eerie?" Derek questioned, obviously not sharing her sentiments. "No not really, in fact they feel quite comfortable to me." He smiled oblvious to the dark and cold feeling the woods gave out. He patted Sarge on the head again and the Houndoom ceased hs quiet growling however continued to watch the girl cautiously. "so you're a pokemon trainer?" Derek asked with a nod towards her belt.

Jessica Stark just sort of blanked. She was a bit surprised by the response. He didn't think the forest was eerie? Was she the only one? She didn't consider herself someone particularly easy to unnerve or freak out. As far as she was concerned, she was a pretty tough cookie.

"Oh..!"

After a moment, she realized how trivial it was. It didn't really matter if he wasn't unnerved by the forest. What did she need to prove to him or herself anyway?

"Yeah, I guess it's alright."

He then questioned her about being a trainer.

"Well, yeah! I mean, I think of myself as more of an explorer, personally, but you get it!"

She was smiling again. She wasn't all that interested in being the best of the best, or even reaching her full potential. As she had probably implied, she was more interested in going to new places and seeing new things. Her ultimate dream was just to explore the world, seeing lots of new sights and new people. Getting stronger as a trainer was just a nice big bonus on top of that journey.

"An explorer? Interesting. So you aren't participating in the league challenge?" Derek felt a bit hopeful as he had grown tired of young kids running up to him and shouting their heads off demanding a battle. Sometimes he had to question whether being head of the Northern wing City Gym was even worth it.

made her way across the foreign city, looking lost and yet... oddly happy! She seemed to be examining every little thing in search of something interesting. Currently, she was examining a local restaurant with great interest, perhaps looking to fill her belly. She had a mildly athletic body build, apparently in great shape. Go figure! If it weren't for the pink, slightly revealing attire and her long glorious hair she could easily pass as a tomboy.

Titania Brightsmith was dressed far more conservatively, in a red ribbed turtleneck sweater and black corduroys. "Hey, I haven't seen you around. If you're looking to get yourself in on the Pokemon action, registration desk is that way." Of course, the TV in the corner to the west was a mighty interesting contraption in and of itself.

"My word, you must be freezing, going out like that."

turned to address Titania with friendly, trusting eyes and a light smile. "Oh—Nno. I don't reckon I'm tough 'nough for that." she remarked casually, seemingly okay with this supposed fact. What's that? A pokemon trainer whose main goal is not to beat the league? Blasphemy! Jessica reached down and adjusted her jeans upon Titania's comments as if re-examining them to make sure they fit right. "It gets pretty chilly, yeah—Nothin' a little fire can't fix, though!" she responded in what appeared to be a southern accent. How about that, huh? She didn't seem too concerned about the fact that she was cold either. This one just radiated happy go lucky attitude.

Titania Brightsmith did a very odd thing: She smiled. The legendary Battle-Axe, the Iron Maiden, the one that had put an end to the nightmare that was Ahriman. And this girl treated her as just an ordinary woman--hardly blasphemy. If anything, it was refreshing!

"There's a flophouse off to the side if you need to rest a spell," she added, picking up on the accent. "I used it once myself. It's supposed to be some kind of consolation prize for League challengers that fail in their quest. It's no Golden Links, but it's plenty comfy."

Jessica Stark seemed to consider the offer. She /was/ slightly tired, but on the other hand... "Nnnnah. All the aches're jus' part of the experience, y'know?" she said, hesitating a moment before continuing. "This Golde'n'Links place sounds neat though! What's that like?" she finished, seeming quite curious. Why, she just wanted to see the sights, meet people, and have some fun! She had no idea what was going on really. Goodness knew she didn't watch the news or anything of the sort. In her own words, that would defeat the purpose of asking what was going on.

Titania Brightsmith took a deep breath. "Oh, it's a short jog across the city, that other big building in the distance," she gestured. "I have no idea how they can afford to charge so little for five-star accommodations like that. Don't have the time, really, what with me having a family to attend to." This much was true, but there was a dark secret behind it all.

Jessica Stark shrugged apologetically, a slightly shy expression crossing her features. "'M afraid I'm not from around these parts, Miss..." she continued in a tone that fit her expression. "M'name's Jessica—I come from my family's ranch back n' Unova." she explained. Her tone definitely wasn't disrespectful, despite the fact that she didn't appear to know who Titania was. If she treated every stranger this well, one might conclude that she was a tad bit of a social butterfly.

Titania Brightsmith put a hand on her chin. "Huh. If you're not from around here, you'll need a place to stay. Golden Links is cheap, but it ain't free either. How about that flophouse I mentioned earlier? Good sandwiches. Lots of kids about your age. You'll do just fine."

Jessica Stark met Titania's gaze steadily. This was not one girl who would be caught staring off into space—At least not without a good reason. "Mmm.. Well—Now that y'put it that way, I guess that sounds mighty convenient..." she said, considering something unspoken—She had no money! Or at least, very little. It didn't help that some ace had beat her up and stolen her lunch money somewhere down the road. Tch. Try hards. "You're awfully helpful, miss. I appreciate it." she continued, one hand drifting down to rest on her hip.

Titania Brightsmith gave a half-smile and returned the one-arm-akimbo gesture. "I'm in a good mood tonight. Just get out of here before my bitch side comes out, miss..." She idly rotated her free hand, inviting her to fill in the blank before taking off with those reserves of youthful energy.

Youth wasn't wasted on the young. They fucking needed it.

Jessica Stark half-frowned. Suddenly, fighting words! "Jessica... n' alright." she said in a reluctant tone, raising a hand idly in an unknown gesture. With that she turned around and hesitantly started to head off. Her pants were evidently form-fitting, to the point where you had to wonder how easy they were to get on and off. You do the math. Jessica was idly seeking out this 'flophouse' the other female had spoken of, her mind trying to make sense of whether that conversation had gone very well or hilariously wrong.

"Hahh. Another day, another dullsville," Titania grumbled. Part of her was grateful for the relative quietness of the news wire. A hard day's work of setting up the stages for the Grand Festival gave her the good kind of muscle ache--the sort that came from a day of honest, blue-collar work. None of that pencil pushing stuff...when a familiar shock of pink vest and bare midriff came in through the gates. "Hey, Jess! I just got off work. You drink?"
