Superman ThemeName: Kal-El/Clark Kent
Titles: Superman, Man of Steel
Superman is widely regarded as the greatest hero the world has ever known, and with good reason. He is kind, cheerful, and ever good-natured; qualities instilled in him by the Kents. He is headstrong and often reckless, but always bearing good intentions. He is often called a "boy scout" by his peers; a moniker which he wears proudly. Superman is bold, courageous, and always willing to risk himself for the sake of others. His iron will to combat the forces of evil is stronger than his skin. Although his tendency for reckless abandon causes some dispute with others, he remains a valued friend and is very much appreciated for his dedication to the cause of righteousness.
Powers & AbilitiesSuperhuman Strength: Superman's most prevalent ability is his tremendous strength, able to stop planes in mid-flight, lift structures from their foundations and, on one occasion, even move whole planets. There isn't much Superman can't accomplish with his strength, if he puts his mind to it. Exposure to sunlight increases his physical capabilities as well.
Superhuman Speed: Just as he is strong, Superman can also achieve incredible levels of speed. His ability to reach such speeds is rivaled by few: he even once bested Flash in a footrace around the world.
Flight: Another of Superman's main powers is the ability to fly. This power has served him well in his fight against evil, having given him travel and elevation advantages. Utilizing this ability has also saved the lives of many would-be victims of a fatal drop.
Invulnerability: This particular ability is the one that earned Superman the nickname "Man of Steel". Impervious to bullets, ballistics, and many other types of attacks and weaponry, Superman's physical fortitude is a staple in his mythic existence. Having survived immense explosions, his resistance to damage comes in useful when fighting particularly well-armed opponents.
X-Ray/Microscopic Vision: The ability to see through most anything, and to see at a microscopic level has aided Superman in countless busts and other dangerous situations. This particular ability is useful when Superman wishes to gain perspective about a certain situation and to formulate a "game plan".
Heat Vision: Yet another of Superman's trademark abilities, this power allows him to fire super-heated lasers from his eyes. Useful for melting through just about any substance, Superman's heat vision has come in handy several times over.
Arctic Breath: The ability to breathe out below-freezing temperature breath has allowed Superman to stop many a criminal in their tracks, freezing them in a solid chunk of ice, among other practical uses.
Longevity: The ability to slowly age. Some might call it a gift, others a curse. One may look at it as an opportunity to battle crime as long as possible. Another may see it as painful reminder that one will surpass their friends, and grow to watch them die out long before you. Superman would rather not think about it.
Accelerated Healing: Superman's body has the ability to rapidly heal itself in the event of injury. Exposure to sunlight increases this ability's magnitude.
Among Superman's great powers lies a very crucial weakness: exposure to Kryptonite. Green kryptonite enfeebles the Man of Steel, weakening him and making him susceptible to attacks he would ordinarily shrug off. Red Kryptonite gives Superman an exponential boost in his power; However, the very same substance sends him into a maddened state, causing him to destroy everything in sight.
Alternately, there exists a blue Kryptonite, which greatly increases Superman's abilities without the derangement caused by its red-colored counterpart.
HistoryBorn on the dying planet Krypton, the baby Kal-El was evacuated in an escape pod, in which he was placed by his birth parents, just before his planet fell to the monstrous Brainiac. The vessel made its way to the planet Earth, where the alien infant was discovered by Martha and Johnathan Kent after crash-landing in a great open plain on Smallville, Kansas.
Raised by the modest couple, the Kents decided to name their now-adopted son Clark, and raised him to be a good son and decent man, reenforcing in him the qualities that would later define him as a hero. As he grew older, Clark began to slowly discover that there was something "not quite normal" about him. He had discovered a latent power in him that seemed inhuman; his abnormal strength chief among them. After informing the Kents about his new found "talents", they recalled the tale of how Clark, as a toddler, had rescued Johnathan from becoming pinned under a tractor by lifting the heavy machine off of him. Soon thereafter, Clark would establish the identity of Superman, and use his powers to help those in need.
Later on in life, he moved to Metropolis, where he would establish himself as a news reporter. He would also build a career of fighting crime as Superman, and become Metropolis' very own guardian. It was in Metropolis that Superman waged countless battles with enemies that would prove nearly insurmountable, yet the Man of Steel would prove himself over and over again.
He is a righteous protector of mankind, and would come to be idolized for his selflessness. For he was the hero the world had been waiting for, the one it needed to ensure their inner peace, and he would give his life if it meant to defend this planet from the evils that wished to oppress it.
Because it was who he was.
