What many first notice about Nova is her mane of dark brown curls. They’re impeccably maintained and she takes a considerable amount of pride in them. From time to time, mostly for special events, she has been known to straighten it, but usually leaves it curly. She has big, dark brown eyes that give away her bright, bubbly nature, usually lined with perfect winged eyeliner. She doesn’t wear much makeup, but always has flawless eyeliner. Her style changes somewhat depending on the event and her mood, but day to day, she tends to dress in a dark academia style, wearing masculine cuts that are slightly old fashioned but still always stylish. Her ears are pierced three times in each lobe, and she’s got a few tattoos: a floral pattern wrapping around her left wrist and forearm, an outline of a flower on the back of her right arm, a quote on the inside of her left elbow, and a floral moon on the back of her right shoulder.

People tend to go through a number of stages upon meeting Nova. Many assume based on her appearance and what they know about her that she’s pretentious, snobby, and entitled. So when they meet her and she’s this bubbly, dorky, endearing person, many people think that it must be an act and that she’s putting it on in some attempt to “not be like other girls.” And then, inevitably, they learn that, no, she’s genuinely like that. She’s completely and unashamedly herself at all times.
That said, one mightn’t be blamed for thinking she’s pretentious at times. She’s an academic and actively participates in all of her classes, engaging in debate and discussion freely. She speaks half a dozen languages and plays almost as many instruments, and isn’t afraid to flaunt any of this. Maybe it isn’t flaunting; it’s more the fact that her parents raised her in such a way to use these skills and show them off. Combine with the fact that she has no tolerance for anyone who tries to take advantage of her kindness or to tread on her, people like to write her off as being snobbish instead of getting to know her.
If one believes her bubbly, dorky persona to be her true persona, then many assume that she must be naive to the world and to its cruelties. And for a while, that was the case. But finding your parents dead at the age of sixteen tends to shock a person out of their ignorance. Those who know Nova, who really know her, knows the fear and the loneliness that sits below her skin. On occasion, it slips out in the form of cutting anger and sarcasm. She isn’t proud of it, and often tries to suppress this anger and worsens the problem. She’s stubborn and doesn’t back down easily where she can help it.
It would have been easy for her to let her anger and her grief rule her life. But instead, she chose to embrace the things that she loved and allow them to define her. When she gets upset or the world gets too much, she goes back to these things, burying herself in her favourite shows and her favourite books and in learning new things. She tends to withdraw from people when she’s like this; often not intentionally, but just not wanting to interact with people when she feels like that.

Nova’s parents were practically the definition of eccentric academics. A chemistry lecturer and a history lecturer, they were always in search of new information and new experiences. Nova was never really planned, but they saw her as the perfect new adventure. From the minute she was old enough, she was being taught various languages and being taught to play whatever instrument she could play with her tiny hands. She was being read the classics and popular literature in equal parts. But perhaps most importantly, Nova’s childhood was full of fun and full of love. She was an intensely bubbly child, like both of her parents, finding it easy to make friends everywhere she went.
She always felt more drawn to her mother’s chemistry books and diagrams than her father’s history books. She loved to watch her mother working in the lab, see the things that she could make and see the pretty colours, and learn how the different molecules worked. She loved analytical chemistry in particular, see the machines with their buttons and their noises and how they could figure out exactly what they’d put in. She was an incredibly bright child, and her mother was incredibly proud that her mother seemed to be ready to follow in her footsteps.
She was fourteen when they moved to the US for work. She started high school, and as always, made friends with ease. At first, she was surrounded by people. Then, with time, they slowly left, discovering Nova to be less interesting and more nerdy and dorky than they imagined. She was left with a group of solid friends. She was with those friends, out at the movies, when her parents were killed. Having to let herself in was nothing new. She found her father first.
By all accounts, it was a burglary gone wrong. This was Nova’s first proper exposure to forensic science. When her parents’ killer was convicted on forensic evidence, something became solid in her mind. She was going to become a forensic scientist. All of the hours spent in her mother’s lab led her to excel in her chemistry classes, leading her to specialise in forensic chemistry. But she also took classes in forensic anthropology, feeling it was an homage to her father. It was through this class she heard about the trip to Egypt, and decided to sign up.

Geokinesis: The user can create, shape and manipulate earth and "earthen" elements including most solid objects, specifically all minerals and mineral compositions regardless of their state (mountain, boulder, sand or dust), dirt, soil, etc.
When Nova receives the blessing, she will be able to move and shape earth as required. It’s a simple, rather self explanatory ability. One innate part of it is that she can detect movement and vibrations through earth and can detect things buried in the earth. This skill requires very little energy. However, physically moving earth can require significant amounts of energy, depending on the amount of earth she’s moving and the distance she’s moving it. She can shatter stone with a burst of energy.
Healing: Nova can heal all but the most severe of injuries. The more severe the injury, the more energy it requires. She absorbs a certain amount of the pain and experiences it while she’s healing.
