Name: Hikari Berlitz
Nickname: Dawn
Age: 18
Height: 5' 6.5"
Weight: 125 lbs.
Hometown: Twinleaf Town
Hair: Slate-gray
Eyes: Slate-gray
Title: Top Coordinator / Ex-Champion of Sinnoh (Denied the title)

One of the most well-known trainers in all of Sinnoh, and even in other regions. She not only beat the Sinnoh champ, but she also saved the world from distortion by subduing Giratina and eradicating Team Galactic. Despite defeating the champion, she didn't want the title of Champion, finding it more fun to just explore and adventure with her party. She spends a lot of her time at the Battle Hall in the Battle Frontier or at contests in Hearthome.

Her story started in Twinleaf Town when she and her friend Barry tried to run to Sandgem town to see Prof. Rowan. He just so happened to show up at that moment, having finished an inspection of Lake Verity with Lucas. After a brief discussion, Hikari was given a Piplup, and Barry a Turtwig. After mulling it over some, Hikari had decided to go and see the rest of Sinnoh. Encouraged by Johanna, her mother, she left to take this journey. It had seemed her friend had the same idea and so they traveled the Region battling each other from time to time while catching and training Pokemon.

After collecting the Coal Badge from Roark, Hikari went back to Jubilife to go refresh her mind at the Trainer's School again. This was her first run-in with Team Galactic, a syndicate of space-suit wearing freaks with green hair. She had heard of them before in commercials about finding new energy sources. She would have thought nothing of them if it weren't for their harassing of Prof. Rowan and Lucas. Running to their aide, her and Lucas quickly wiped the two goons and off they ran.

On her way to Eterna City, she would run into an admin of this notorious team, Mars. Hikari easily trounced her and forced Team Galactic to bail out of the Windworks. It was in Eterna city that she crossed paths with a boy named James who showed her around the place. The two became fast friends. However, James was clear in telling Hikari to stay clear of the Galactic building at the back of town. Telling her that he saw them steal people's Pokemon who go near it. As he did not have a Pokemon of his own at the time, he couldn't charge the place himself. Hikari volunteered to save the Pokemon instead on his behalf. Inside, she met a curious man by the name of Looker who stated he was from the International Police and was undercover. "Another weirdo" was all that was thought as Hikari fought her way to the top to find Jupiter, another admin. After defeating her and ensuring Team Galactic's retreat, she nabbed the gym badge and moved on to gather the rest.

She wouldn't run into these goons again until Veilstone, where their HQ was. After a short confrontation and an inspection of the HQ, finding no leads, Hikari left to continue her adventure. She would encounter these goons again when they committed an act of terrorism at the Safari Zone. After that, she would encounter them many more times along her journey.

During her escapade with the Galactic Bomb, she had run into a woman dressed in black who introduced herself as Cynthia. She gave Hikari some medicine and a task of delivering something to her grandmother in a town to the north called Celestic Town. After doing what was instructed, she entered the cave in the center of town to see the drawings spoken of by the elder. It was there that she met a man with blue hair and a large G on his outfit. He introduced himself as Cyrus and went on about an imperfect world and how he intends to change it. Being an obstacle in his path he attempts to take down Hikari but she manages a victory causing the man to vacate.

From Cyrus' speech, Hikari could glean that they planned to take the Pokemon from each of the lakes around Sinnoh. Unable to be in three places at once, she was at a loss of what to do. She just so happened to run into Lucas and Barry and told them the situation. After devising a plan, the three set out. Hikari went to Lake Valor only to hear an explosion come from there. She doubled her efforts to get there only to find the water blown out of the lake and the Pokemon living in it strewn about, dead or otherwise. This sickened her, and with a fury she ran into the center of the lake and thrashed the admin Saturn's team. She was sadly too late and they had already gotten what they came for.

Panicking, she flew to the other two lakes to find similar stories from her friends. They were too late to save the Pokemon. This sparked her to retry the HQ in an attempt to save the trio. She did manage to get inside this time thanks to one of the goon's butter fingers. She had already learned of their plans from a prior interaction but refused to believe it, until she heard the speech and how many riled behind the idea. She just couldn't believe it.

As she made her way to the lab, she defeated Saturn once more and freed the trio from the lakes. It was there that she learned the purpose of all this and Cyrus's true destination. Spear Pillar. The location where it is once said that time and space were created by Arceus. Rushing there herself, barreling through an onslaught of Galactic goons, she reaches the top but it set upon by Mars and Jupiter at the same time. By this point, Hikari had a powerful team, but she couldn't take on both of them at once. Her friend Barry came at that moment to support her in battle. With his help, they beat back the admins, but it was too late.

The colossal legends, the lords of both Time and Space stood before them but bound by a mysterious red chain. While Cyrus was gloating, some...thing appeared out of the ground and grabbed him, dragging him into a blackened void. The longer the void existed, the more distorted the world around Hikari became and the more panicked and agitated the Legendary pair became as well. Mysteriously, Cynthia had shown up again. After some discussion, Hikari entered the void into a strange land full of confusing twists and unnatural landscape and physics. At the end she found Cyrus once more. After a heated exchange of ideals a final battle ensued.

Cyrus, unlike the first time, was no pushover here. He fought with everything he had and even made Hikari worry that she might lose. After an arduous fight, Hikari came out on top and Cyrus simply escaped. Wondering why such a man would run, Hikari turned around to find a towering monstrosity staring down at her. The beast who was responsible for the distortion and the obvious owner of the current dimension stood before her. Thinking fast, Hikari managed to hide from the creature. It simply retreated to the furthest point in the distorted plane, guarding the exit. It was at this time Cynthia came by. Not questioning why she came in with Hikari or even how she got to Spear Pillar in the first place, Hikari asked her about what she saw.

Cynthia filled her in with what little was known about this creature, Giratina, who represented antimatter. Cynthia kindly healed Hikari's team and stood back, telling her to keep going until the end. Upon reaching said end, there stood this Giratina at the end of a walkway. With nowhere else to go but forward, Hikari challenged the beast to a battle to which she thankfully came out on top. Being defeated, the Pokemon fled, leaving a portal to the outside world through which the unlikely pair left.

With that momentous story behind her, Hikari finally had time to focus on what she wanted to do, which was to get the rest of the badges and take on the league. Doing just that, she swiped Volkner's badge and made her way there. After an easy climb to the top, with nobody posing much of a threat to her, she reached the champion's room to find a familiar face, Cynthia.

After a proper introduction, Hikari learned the woman's name was Shirona but went by Cynthia for a reason she didn't feel like explaining. The two soon clashed in a fierce battle. After some time, there emerged a victor. As Cynthia's signature Garchomp fell to the ground, Hikari gave her Pachirisu a high five/tail. Before Cynthia could say anything, Hikari told her upfront that she did not want the title of Champion. She just wanted to have an adventure, and this was on her list of things to do. Taking a commemorative ribbon instead, as proof of having defeated the champion, Hikari set off on a new adventure through Sinnoh, with her trusty partners close by.

Hikari captured both Dialga and Palkia atop Spear Pillar after finding both the Lustrous orb and the Adamant Orb. The orbs lead her up to Spear Pillar where the legendary pair appeared to be waiting for her, grateful for having been saved from their previous fate of being forced to destroy the world. What ensued was an honest battle that ended in the capture of both legends.

Hikari had entered into the Battle Frontier and enjoyed the various events within it, but stuck to the Battle Hall quite a bit, enjoying the shows that often occurred. She also enjoyed being on a stage, but not in the egotistical sense. She just loved how it felt to perform. It soon became her second favourite place, only beaten by the Contest Hall in Hearthome. After she defeated Cynthia, the first thing she did was follow her mother's footsteps and become a Top Coordinator. Hikari did manage to obtain a ribbon in all forms of contest, and even the Ribbon Cup, giving her the well deserved title of Top Coordinator. She's even been invited as a judge for a number of contests before. Due to her new title, she went and had special pokeballs commissioned for each of her Pokemon to fit them.

Hikari later explored Stark Mountain with a man named Buck. Buck had told Hikari that a group of weird people in space suits were searching the mountain. Hikari knew exactly who he was talking about, Team Galactic again. They traversed the inside of the mountain and removed the threat posed by Mars and Jupiter for the third time. Seeing as it was a likely target, Buck went to grab the Magma Stone but was interrupted by a large Pokemon, Heatran, dropping from the ceiling. With a fierce malice in it's eyes, it held no qualms about defending it's treasure to the last. Buck had run away by this point, with the stone, but Hikari stayed. Impressed by her boldness, the Heatran battled her and was captured in the end. He now is among Hikari's "High Class" team. Later, Buck was encouraged to return the stone in case there were other Heatran that would cause the mountain to erupt.

Hikari was flying around on her Staraptor for fun one day when she saw a peculiar sight. A small fox flying through the air like a bird. Curious, she followed it to a place where countless flowers bloomed, much like in Floaroma Town. Before she landed, she admired the flowers' beauty. She couldn't find the fox however, instead finding what looked something like Swinub but white and with greenery on its back. When she landed, she must have spooked the little guy because it turned around and attacked her. After a quick battle thanks to the Staraptor, the Shaymin was caught and added to the team. While the Shaymin was sad not being around it's flowers all day and refused to be friends with Hikari, they eventually bonded over time. Hikari does buy flowers for the Shaymin now and again.

Ability:
- Hikari's voice cheering them on is enough to give any member of her team a substantial boost (+2) in all of their stat parameters without the need of stat raising skills, this includes ally's Pokemon in double battles as well. This ability can only be applied for 4 turns and never on the same Pokemon twice in one battle. After the effect ends, the Pokemon's stats are returned to neutral regardless of status moves used in either positive or negative fashion. "And another stunning performance from Hikari! Triumphing over every other ground type contestant with her trusty Empoleon! What an amazing show!

The Battle Hall roared with cheering and applause as Hikari gave her buddy a high five/fin. After returning him to his pokeball, Hikari left the Hall and looked up at the sky.

"Haaah! Another great day on stage! Woohoo! I am feeling so good right now~ Alright... What should I do next? Hmm..."

The holographic screens all suddenly flared to life, showing an announcement from a Pokemon Dawn once saw in a book. She turned, like many others in the frontier to watch.

My dear Ruulans. Pokemon and Human, alike and equal. I come to you now in my first official address to those I now lead. This speech is devoted to you all.

My name is Melaine Diancie, the latest in a line of Grand Champions; powerful Ruulans who have the strength and wisdom to guide us, excluding the last few. Defeating the previous complacent Grand Champion, who lead in an outdated system of laziness such that put even Slaking to shame, I am proud to announce that a new era will begin under a far more proactive and dedicated rule.

This is what shall begin going forward: Ruula will no longer remain stagnant. Prosperity and power will return to us all. No more will we tolerate isolation and regression. The United Pokemon League will be disbanded, to be replaced by the newly formed New Ruulan Empire. A new structure of leadership will be put forth, a leadership focused on the people who call this planet their home; to lead us all as the 1st Crown-Princess of the New Ruulan Empire. I promise to maintain the old structures of personal growth and progress in adventures, and will always seek to promote bonds between Trainers and Pokemon to the betterment of us all.

This all means that that Gym Leaders, Elite 4 Members, and Regional Champions will remain as they always have, serving similar roles. I will also integrate the far-off regions of Galar, Orre, Ransei, Ferrum, and Holon. Long have they been apart, but let it be no longer; they now shall walk with us in unity. I will also move to restore Almia, Fiore, and Oblivia to rightful status as regions of their own under the banner of the New Ruulan Empire.

All of this will not be done without oversight. My specially appointed council of powerful Trainers will now take positions of leadership around myself, each set to work with the administration of each region to ensure that the expansion of Ruula's influence is promoted and the advancement and progress of our civilization will continue evermore. I now promise all of you, proud and honorable Ruulans, to work my best to ensure the prosperity of us all under this new banner; that of the New Ruulan Empire.

With help from the current reigning Champions, Elite 4 Members, and Gym Leaders, the lifestyle of all Ruulans will continue to be expounded upon for building an ever more suitable society that can even broker internationally. This is my promise to all Ruulans. Let us proceed beyond the old regressive isolation that characterized us for so long, and forge a new future that will only lead to our own advancement. Let us come together as one and achieve what we all can.

For the Ruulans who are still resisting my rule, and will no doubt continue to do so, I strongly urge you all to accept my rule and the seeds of the New Ruulan Empire. Commit to the New Ruulan Empire that will seek to take our proud society and culture to new, ever growing heights; even to the stars above and beyond. Indeed, all who resist my rightfully obtained rule, hear me now; I will treat kindly those who relent and concede to my leadership and let them share in the new age of Ruula that we will forge together.

The members of the former United Pokemon League will truly be united for the first time in decades! Let the New Ruulan Empire flourish where the old had failed, and continue to prosper forever more! Thank you, my proud Ruulans. I look forward to being admirable enough to be commanding of your respect and loyalty.

On an official note, I, as the 1st Crown-Princess of the New Ruulan Empire, will accept any and all direct challenges to my rule in a battle! Keeping to our traditions, defeating a Champion, or becoming a Champion, will earn you the honor of dueling me for the title. Besides, defeating all of my councilors will also qualify you to challenge me! I also accept any and all exhibition fights if you need living proof of my right to lead in defeating the prior Grand Champion.

In fact, let me begin with a showcase of my transparency, and my proclaimed ensuring of our traditions surviving this changing of the guard! Six powerful Trainers, who disagree with my right to rule, and have proven their mettle, have come to meet me in battle, at my invitation, intent on gauging whether I am indeed worthy of everything I have spoken to you today. They represent the prior leadership, and I hope they will also showcase a justification of my own thoughts and intents in laying such incompetence of the past to rest.

Once again, thank you proud Ruulans for taking the time to hear my first address to all of you! Enjoy the exhibition bout, and let us move into this new age united under this proud new banner that can move to extend beyond the stars!

Many people gasped and some nodded as they watched and listened to the Pokemon speak. Some were just surprised to hear one speak at all. Some thought it was a joke due to the fact a Pokemon was talking. There were some though who believed in her wholly. Dawn wasn't one of them. She instantly had a bad feeling about the whole thing.

"It sounds like a new cult is forming. This time, a Legendary leads it. Wait was that Pokemon a Legendary or a Mythical?"

Dawn quickly checks her Pokedex to reassure herself.

"Mythical, well that makes it slightly less daunting. Hmm... Panic doesn't seem to be spreading right now... If anything goes down here, Palmer and Barry can handle it. I need to talk to Cynthia, she'll have a good plan of action! That and it'll be a nice visit~"

Dawn would rummage around in her bag and produce a specially made sky-blue pokeball with a wing pattern on it. She would toss it up in the air and out would come her trusty Staraptor. As if he had read Dawn's mind, the Staraptor crouched a little to let Dawn mount him. When she did, he took off to the skies and bee-lined straight for the Sinnoh League building, a place she hasn't been in a couple years.

Dawn would jump off her Staraptor and land in front of the doors to the daunting building that houses the Elite Four and the Region's current Champion, Cynthia. Returning Staraptor to his ball and the ball to her bag, she would rush inside. She ran to the desk and asked to see Cynthia.

"I need to see Cynthia!"

"Who are you--?"

"Ugh, Cynthia! The Champion! Tall lady. Black dress. Pretty face. Blonde hair. Gray eyes?"

"I-I know who that is, yes but um... She is over there by the Pokecenter. She came down a few moments ago. Who are you?"

"Dawn. You don't get out much. So I need to-- wait hold on... you said she's here already?"

Dawn would turn to see Cynthia was indeed there. Talk about a lucky break! Dawn would run up to Cynthia. The guy at the desk, now realizing who Dawn is, blushed, clearly embarrassed that he didn't recognize her at all and felt a little shameful he gave her a hassle.

"Cynthia! Did you see that broadcast? I mean of course you saw it, I'm being silly but... What do you think of it?"

The tall blonde woman sighed. For all her strength, it was hard to remember sometimes that Hikari was still just a kid.

"Of course. I expect to receive my new marching orders soon. But that doesn't mean I'm going to follow them because of a little procedural glitch. When Nendal defeated Touko, that made him Grand Champion. With his death, the UPL is left without a leader. Melaine can flaunt her strength all she wants, but it doesn't mean a thing. I am troubled, however...this is the first I'm hearing of a so called Shadow Pokémon and its capabilities. To destroy an Excadrill with a rock-type attack like she did...I hear Touko is conducting research into just what this Melaine can do after getting demolished like that. In the meantime, we have to organize against the thugs she's sending around."

She sniffed the air. "You smell like brimstone. Did you just come from the Battle Frontier? I need you to get a message to Tower Tycoon Palmer, and by extension the other Brains. I believe you're friends with his kid Barry, so that should be the quickest way. I'll be communicating sensitive information over secure channels regarding our next moves, so just tell him to expect a call from me."

"Barry is a childhood friend, of course I know him! The message is as good as sent, Cynth! I have something to say..."

Dawn's usual peppy tone died off here as she spoke seriously with an expression Cynthia has not seen since their duel.

"I'm willing to come out of my retirement to help. Say the word and I'll be there, and I'll bring the Big Guys with me too if they can help. They've been itching to repay Sinnoh for almost bashing it years ago. I wouldn't mind fighting with you for once."

As she spoke, a special navy coloured ball with silver strips and a bright blue button on it jiggled when Dawn mentioned repayment.

"After I get the word to Palmer, should I return here?"

"If you come out of retirement, that's your call. However, I'd rather not have you working for us in any official capacity. I've battled Touko myself, and she's only gotten stronger since then...and yet she was thrashed. Now she's making sport of people from around the world with some kind of new 6 on 1 raid battle just to try to give herself a challenge. If the same thing were to happen to me now that she's given this ultimatum, my failure would doom everyone in this building, except possibly you. Plus there's no time to run a proper background check before giving you clearance."

Cynthia walked outside, urging Hikari to come with her near the waterfall to drown out whatever she had to say next.

"Not sure what kind of background checks you would need on me. My doings aren't exactly secret as a Top Coordinator."

She would speak her mind as she followed Cynthia to the waterfall, curious as to what she had to say that needed to be so private.

"Obviously you have some heavy info to drop if you wanted privacy for this... Let's hear it."

"It's less heavy info and more what I want you to do next. You see, there might not be enough time to hire you formally...but there's always work under the table, if you want it. What I plan to do going forward is to feed you suggestions that align with the League's overall strategy in dealing with this. What you do with this information is, of course, entirely your business. Your independence is a precious thing, after all...but you must tell no one that you're receiving these tips or from whom. Do you accept this mission?"

Cynthia held her breath. Now that Dawn had gotten a glimpse into the seedy underbelly of running a government and maintaining sovereignty...would she accept?

"What, you think I'm going to leave my home to go solve a problem for another champion? Last I checked, that broadcast was from Unova. I know James is there already and he wouldn't stand for that. That Emiko girl is there as well so with them on the case, the problem won't be a problem for long. Until then, I will stay here and defend Sinnoh from this threat the best I can. Sinnoh has stood by me all these years, and I'm going to stand by it, besides, if I joined the fray now, I'd be getting in the way. I'll leave the front-line fighting to the trainers. I'll stay to defend if it comes here. If it does, even if you go around and tell me you've seen the end, I WILL stop it. It will not destroy my home, we won't let it! So I'll be declining your, er...offer. I'm not some agent you can toss around, nor am I a freelancer. If you have missions for me to protect Sinnoh here and now, I'll take them but that's it. I'm not leaving Sinnoh in her time of need, and neither is my team!"

Through her whole little speech, she held a fire in her heart and burning determination in her eyes, a face she hasn't wore in a long time. This meant everything to her, and she was sure showing it.

Shirona sighed, letting the waterfall fill the silence before composing her response.

"Very well. A defender of Sinnoh you shall remain. But I'm not going to wait around for the trouble to come to us. You see...Melaine's entire regime is corrupt and unfounded. You see, she was never Grand Champion--Nendal was, until his untimely death. Now the UPL is once again left without a leader. We must organize a tournament to determine his successor. And from what I've seen from both you and Touko, either of you are more than qualified to compete in it."

The taller woman sighed and put a hand on her chest. "When we last stood together like this, we were facing a threat man was not meant to know, in a world on the other side of reality from us. In that moment, you were my equal, and you've gotten so much stronger than I have since then as evidenced by the results of your league challenge. I look forward to seeing what you choose to do next with this incredible power of yours. And when her thugs come for our shores...we will battle as allies."

Shirona's hands returned to a resting position. "Go. Resume your journey, wherever it may take you...Hikari, of the noble house of Berlitz."

"I won't be participating in it. I'm not much of a trainer anymore. I'm a Top Coordinator and a battle star at the Hall. And yeah, that was probably the last time we stood like this. That day still runs through my head though... If Barry didn't come at that moment... You'd have gone it alone against both Cyrus and that monster of a Pokemon, Giratina. I trust your abilities, but what scares me is that that would have been the end for me. The idea of that always haunts me."

Hikari adjusted her hat and closed her eyes. She would give a short sigh to calm her mind and open her eyes once more.

"I'm sorry for not visiting more regularly, I'll fix that some day. But for now, I'll go give a message to Palmer, then head around Sinnoh to check for problems if they arrive. I can toss my name around to get attention and warn people if need be. And if this talking rock does come to Sinnoh with her cronies, I would be honored to fight by your side Cyn- Shirona. I'll kick their butts so hard, Dialga will have to bring them back to the present! And hey, when this blows over, we can totally throw a party at the Villa~ I'll worry about invitations later though, for now, I'll go get that message out. You have my number, so call if something comes up, alright? I'll see you later, and I promise to visit more often."

With that she takes out her special wing-patterned ball, bringing out her Staraptor. She hops on and gives an enthusiastic wave to Cynthia before taking to the skies.

After a short conversation with Emiko, James brought out Asuka again and took flight for Unova once more. On the way he called up Sandra and Dawn. He gave her the low down of what was spoken about.

"You go check on Lori, alright? After that, I want you go to.. uh... Hala was it? Use him for a reference on where to go. You're a strong trainer so you should keep moving around there. Ok? Well, call me if something comes up, alright? See ya."

James then ends the call and dials a new number. Shirona stroked Asuka's head. Asuka was holding up well despite the full weight of both Shirona and James and his bag on her back. She effortlessly flew through the air. Finally, the call picked up.

"Hey! Hey, Dawn... Y-Yeah I'm fine but now is not the time. Listen..."

James gave her the gist of the meeting and what was talked about too.

"Hey, could I trouble you to check on my mom for me? You know where we live. S-Seriously? Thanks! After that, call Cynthia for updates. Be careful who is around you when you call her though. I saw it in Castelia, there are supporters hidden among the regulars. Alright, catch ya after this thing. I'll buy you tickets to go see Lisia. I know you can get them free, but just let me do SOMETHING, alright? I can't just buy you pizza and call it a day anymore! Anyway, got all that? Ok, see ya."

James puts away the phone and heads for the heart of all this: Castelia City.

Cynthia couldn't believe what she was seeing through her tiny view screen. It was like the Cyrus incident all over again. She had to make an urgent call to someone she knew she could trust. ...But more importantly, she needed a friend.

"Hikari, come in. It's me, Cynthia. You said you would stand by to defend Sinnoh, ...and judging by the dark clouds over its tallest peak I'd say this definitely qualifies. I'm currently stuck in Johto, but I'll be there as soon as I'm able. I don't know if this is part of the NRE's war plans or something else entirely. That's why I'm sending you. Promise me one thing, though. ...That you'll take your strongest team, and if whatever's up there is a threat, don't hold back no matter what."

Hikari was visiting her mother in Twinleaf when her phone rang with its usual cutesy tune. She excused herself from the lunch table and answered the phone, "Hello hello? What's going on, Cynthia?"

"Understood. I'll get on it ASAP. Sorry Mom, but I gotta get going!"

With a wave, Dawn rushed upstairs to her room and packed up some supplies and left the house, giving her mother a kiss on the cheek and a promise to stay longer next time. Bringing out her Staraptor, she hopped on and they took off. Her destination was Spear Pillar, but to get there she had to climb through the inside of the mountain again as it was too dangerous for Staraptor to fly that high. So she makes a course for the tallest entrance she can get to, by Route 216. On the way there, she talks to herself.

"I doubt it's the NRE on Spear Pillar. Everybody knows what goes on up there! Wait... don't tell me that Giratina is acting up again! Jeeez, how many times is it going to take? Tch... Haaah, whatever."

As she flew above the snowy route, she was reminded of her initial journey where she came up here to take the badge from Candice. She should pay a visit sometime, maybe after this whole mess. Yeah, she'll call up everybody for a visit! But, business first before play. Landing, Dawn hops off her ride and gives her mount a gentle stroke of the feathers on his neck before returning him to his wing patterned ball. She felt the cool air on her face and adjusted her hat and scarf.

"Time for round two, Coronet. Hope you're ready!"

The navy ball with a golden trident on it shook a bit, which made Hikari giggle in response. Seems Marina was raring to go too. They've been through thick, thin and everything in between together.

"What's one more challenge?"

With that, Hikari stepped inside the mountain and from memory, ascertained her next route and began to progress that way. She kept an eye out for trainers, Pokemon or otherwise as she moved.

Hikari's path up the mountain was clear enough. The wild pokemon seemed a bit disturbed. That is to say, more of them were moving around than usual. They weren't fleeing from anything from the looks of it. They were just kind of... skittish and on alert. However, that isn't to say that they were particularly interested in the young lady ascending the mountain. Rather, they were probably more inclined to avoid her. There weren't even any predators to mistake her for an easy snack today! ...Perhaps just luck.

As she climbs, she does discover a very freaked out climber talking about a giant space squid or something, but he isn't very interested in sticking around and is quickly moving to depart after warning Hikari about the madness he witnessed. The poor man appeared extremely distraught. With very little other than wild pokemon to block her path, there was essentially nothing other than the tedium of getting there between her and the peak... and Spear Pillar.
Image
When Dawn reaches Spear Pillar, she discovers something ... reasonably weird. Standing there, not having quite noticed her yet, was herself. Not just any doppelganger, though, but a much younger doppelganger. She stood at a piddling 4'6'', an entire foot shorter than Hikari. She was just kind of staring off into space, shivering occasionally in the chilly evening air. It took her a... good few seconds before she seemed to notice Hikari standing there, her gaze turning and locking onto her in the dim light. One could see the progression from her trying to process what she was looking at, to recognizing to familiar features, to putting things together...

Her eyes widened and she tensed noticeably. Her expression went from confusion to shock... and then to realization and horror. " . . . "

From being frozen like a deer in headlights to abruptly lurching forward, she went for her bag and quickly bent over to grab it and begin rifling through it. "Guys, we've got trouble. There's a doppelganger here; someone must've sent her... We need to get rid of her and get out of here before anyone else finds us." she urged, announcing her intentions as if Hikari couldn't hear her before plucking a pokeball free from her bag adorned with a sticker depicting pink bubbles on it.

"Hey, woah there girlie! I'm not here to hurt you. I was sent by Cynthia to check out Spear Pillar. I'm just as confused as you right now. That hiker said something about squid and now I see an image of me back during my trainer days."

Hikari put a hand on her belt which held Dialga's pokeball, "You got some explaining to do, Dialga. Did you have a hand in this?"

The ball was navy in colour and with light blue stripes wrapping around it, coming together at the button. Dialga's prominent chest piece was featured as the front decal picture with a bright blue button in the center. It shook in response to the question and that was enough for Hikari to figure what was meant.

"Yeah, didn't think so... Look, uh... me. I'd like to avoid a fight if possible, is that alright?"

ImageThe smaller girl paused for a moment as she listened to Hikari speak. A shiver ran down her spine. Was that ... really what she sounded like? She stood up with the pokeball in hand and turned to look up at her apparently older self, the expression on her face that of increasing bemusement. This lasted for an... awkwardly long moment. You could just see her trying really hard to process what she had just heard, as if Hikari were speaking an alien language she did not understand.

"...Wait... Y-You're... You don't want to hurt me or my pokemon..?" she softly asked in disbelief. A more visible shudder passed through her. "...But... how..?" she replied, visibly losing her composure and beginning to recoil slightly in fright. She grabbed the hem of her hat and tugged it down over her head in a frustrated manner as if to hide her face and then quickly turned her back on Hikari, apparently having changed her mind about battling. "Nnn... How is this happeniiing? You can't be me! I'm me! I--..." she began to whine rather pathetically, sort of trailing off. For the moment being, she appeared to be content to cower before her older self, very obviously extremely distraught by what was going on. Wait, did she say Dialga? ...No, that couldn't be it. If this was time travel, her older self would already be aware of the events taking place here.

"I'm unsure if our names are the exact same between the different timelines we obviously come from... My name here is Hikari Berlitz. Often, as you're aware, I am called Dawn. I went by the name so as to avoid...hm... I guess backlash being from the Berlitz family. Mom went with it. But after the event upon this ground I decided to start using my name instead of Dawn but my friends still call me Dawn regardless. I uh... got off track... I'm unsure how um... you got here. But, Dialga had no hand in it so it isn't time travel, and Palkia isn't one to do things like this on a whim either. Although...."

Hikari takes out her phone and does some searching before finding what she wanted.

"Yeah, this might be one of those Ultra Wormthings that brought people from other timelines like what happened in Alola years back. So we can roll with that for now until whatever happened comes to the light. Now..."

Hikari looked over the other version of her standing in front of her. She noted everything from hair, to clothes and even nail polish.

"Did I seriously dress like that back then? How did I not freeze up in Snowpoint? And I wonder what I did with those yellow hair clips... Sheesh... Maybe Cynthia would know a thing or two about how I was back then. Maybe. Well... hole in the sky is sealed, Dialga and Palkia aren't going nuts over Giratina messing around... I guess the whole thing cleared up? Mm! Hey, Marina! Say hi to the younger me!"

Hikari would bring out her signature Empoleon, Marina. She was released from her navy ball with a decal of a golden trident on the front. Marina would look over at the girl and smile a little, reminded of her old days as a Piplup. Surprisingly, a little chirp left her beak.

"Heh, I figured you'd enjoy seeing a little blast from the past. Hey, did I ACTUALLY dress like that?"

With a confirmed nod from the Empoleon, Hikari giggled and sighed. She took a few steps towards the other Dawn and bent down a little.

"Hey, is it alright if we be friends? I can't imagine how it feels being in a new timeline or whatever, away from home and all... You could use somebody to help you out. Who better than, well, yourself? Ie: Me."

Dawn slowly relaxed her hold on her head, silently quelling her frustration for a moment as she listened to the other talk, silently processing small details, making connections, figuring things out that previously didn't quite make sense to her. Things had begun to come into focus. She suddenly realized where she was, and who she was talking to. This lightened her anxiety considerably, but also faced her with new troubles she'd never been expecting.

As Hikari inspected Dawn, she'd discover that Dawn was rather lithe, especially in the upper body. In fact, ...one might even say she was very slightly gaunt on closer inspection. There were hints of dishevelment all over her appearance, either from lack of care or lack of skill. A haircut that wasn't quite up to even like you'd expect from a barber. Clothes that were a little frayed and in need of some TLC. One of her boots was missing a button on its clasp. Her nails weren't polished at all, though they were trimmed neatly. Her skin could certainly do with some moisterizer. One could kind of come to the conclusion that it had been a considerable amount of time before she'd last gone home to her own mother. ...Or been taken care of by anyone, for that matter. At the very least, she didn't smell.

"...Hey, I like my clothes!" Dawn replied in a mildly defensive tone, squirming a bit where she stood. "They're comfy and easy to wear." she promptly added in a matter-of-fact tone. It seemed that she'd regained her composure after listening for a while. She obliged Hikari by releasing her piplup, who frankly looked worse than she did, though he wore his battle-wounds with pride and promptly struck an inquisitive pose directed at Marina and Hikari. Dawn took a moment to observe the most obvious difference between the two of them. ...Huh. She meekly modeled a bit for Marina in response to being put in the spotlight again, but had gone otherwise quiet for the moment being.

ImageThat was, until after Hikari approached her. Hikari's offer took Dawn off-guard, and for a solid moment one could observe a very heavy wave of sadness wash over her. However, the moment passed without comment and she promptly flashed Hikari a rather sweet smile. "...Well--if everyone here is as nice as you are, maybe it won't be so bad..." she softly replied. "...My name's Dawn. Like, my actual name." she went on to greet, before pausing to consider the strange coincidence. "...Does that mean you named me?" she asked, pondering this for a moment. If Hikari invented the nickname before she was around, and it somehow osmosised its way to her, and--no, wait... that's not how time travel works. Or how anything works. Or was it? She got frustrated and dismissed the thought from her mind. "Anyway, my friends called me Platina sometimes. I'm... kind of broke, and I don't think anyone from home is going to come looking for me. So it'd be really nice if we could be friends." she replied, offering a smaller yet familiar hand up to Hikari in a somewhat timid and awkwardly stiff fashion.

This was what you did, right? When you made a deal? What was the deal again? She didn't know.

"That's not really how that stuff works... Also.. you two look terrible! I mean, you said you're broke, and I've been there too but...this is something else... What happened to you to turn out like this and for Piplup there to be so...hurt?"

Hikari put a hand on the Piplup's head and rubbed it gently. Poor thing looks like its been through hell. What could have done this?

"This may not be the best place for it, but I brought some food for the trip up the mountain and still have some left. Would you like to sit down and eat while we talk? It's just sandwiches though."

Marina looked up at the sky, as if trying to figure out what happened. She knew nothing would come from aimlessly staring up but what else could she do? She could talk to the Piplup but isn't sure if they will divulge information to a stranger. Marina decided to walk around Spear Pillar and look for any hints of anything while Hikari remained with the other Dawn.

"Going to check things out Marina? Well alright. Be careful. Who knows what could have come with her."
