"Happy new year!"

The words echoed through Ash's dorm room walls as the party next door hit a new level of loud. She could feel the thumping beat through the floorboards, and through the air. It vibrated throughout her being, but Ash was glad she wasn't a part of it. As much as Ash wasn't a party type of girl, Ash wouldn't have minded going to the party - but she felt it was more polite to wait for her best friend and give her a quieter welcome - one she would prefer. It could be quite uncomfortable for both Gisele, Blair, and Ash to be around loud noises - Ash and Blair could detect the vibrations, and Gisele could hear minds. It gave Ash a headache just thinking about it, let alone being a part of it. Kat, luckily, didn't have a problem with noise, but then again, Kat was just awesome in general. Ash had to admit, sometimes she was jealous of Kat's ability to not get headaches caused by powers.

Then again, there was the issue of boys, too. Ash was, admittedly, saving herself for someone, but she was losing hope of ever seeing him again. As much as she'd vowed to never forget his face, it was slipping from her. She could remember his eye colour perfectly; Ash held onto this knowledge tightly, in fear of forgetting. She couldn't forget the boy who saved her from drowning a second time.

Snowball squealed in his cage just as something - or, more likely, someone - thumped against the adjoining wall. Ash sighed, sitting up on her bed, before getting up and walking around to his cage, scooping the small rabbit up, and resuming her place on the bed, cross-legged with the animal on her lap. She stroked him, making soothing noises to the ball of fluff, trying to calm her pet down. The screaming next door began again, and Ash clamped her hands over her ears while the small rabbit burrowed it's head into her lap. "Oh my god....
" She groaned to herself, resisting the urge to flop backwards on the bed and pull the pillow over her head. "I am never going to get any sleep tonight." She told the rabbit, before picking him up and placing him back in his run with a treat ball. She was sorry she couldn't do anything else for the creature, but she was hoping he would curl up in his nest and fall asleep.

Aislinn was shocked out of her thought trail by the sound of a car alarm. She was surprised she could hear it, but she headed over to the window, opening it as wide as she could. She shivered as she realized how cool it was outside. Ash had been in California for just over a year now, but the milder seasons always caught her by surprise. Back in England, everyone assumed that California was hot 24/7. However, this was definitely not the case, and Ash caught herself rubbing at the goosebumps appearing on her arms. She threw on a cardigan quickly, before hurrying back over to the window, and sitting down.

Ping!

Ash's phone decided to receive a text just as she sat down. Sighing in frustration, Aislinn pulled herself off the window seat and grabbed her phone from the charging point on her nightstand, before typing in her code and flopping down onto her bed. She opened up her messages to see that she'd received a message from Mei. Sighing once more, she typed a quick reply.

Hey, I'm in my room at the moment. It's so loud.

She hit send on the phone and plugged it in, just as someone opened the door. Ash jumped, expecting it to be some drunken idiot stumbling in by accident, but to her pleasant surprise, it was Gisele. Ash squealed in delight, leaping off the bed in delight, before she noticed her best friend sink to the ground. "Are you okay? Rough journey?" She asked softly, sitting down next to her. She didn't want to push her, but wanted to make sure she was okay. The French girl had been there for her since Ash had arrived, and Ash reciprocated it towards her. She just wanted to make sure her friend was okay, catch up, and get to sleep.

What more could a girl want?

Kat weaved through the crowd, her eyes flitting over the faces of those she passed, searching for ones that stood out. She didn't really know why she was bothering, as she knew perfectly well that parties weren't exactly up Ash's alley, and as for Blair and Giselle, well, they couldn't go to one without surrendering themselves to nausea and migraines. Which was ironic, considering that a lot of the people here would be suffering from exactly those come morning.

With a sigh, Kat reached for her phone, typing a text to the three girls, asking about their whereabouts in a typical 'Kat' tone. Her thumb rose over the send button, only for a loud cheer to interrupt the act, as the sea of students around her began to chant in unison.

"Sixty! Fifty-nine! Fifty-eight! Fifty-seven-"

Kat's eyes widened in surprise, and her gaze flicked to the little clock at the corner of her phone. Seriously? It's midnight, already? The numbers nodded back at her, neon white, reading 11:59 and confirming her query.

"Thirty-eight! Thirty-seven! Thirty-six-"

Kat frowned, somewhat disappointed to not have her friends with her to count down the seconds. Nonetheless, she just as quickly shook away her gloom, replacing it with a grin as she joined in the counting.

"Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four-"

Around her, she could see people pairing up, lips armed and ready for the obligatory New Year pash. A boy appeared in front of her, a smirk on his lips and a hazy look in his eyes. All about them, people screamed "One!" In jubilant unison, and the guy before Kat leant towards her, his lips curving in preparation. Kat stepped back, raising her hands in front of her as she eeked out a meek rejection, "Ah, no thank you, sor-" The rug caught beneath her feet, and she went stumbling backwards into the wall.

And through it.

Katherine landed with a thud on the wooden floor, and groaned as she raised a hand to her cranium, rubbing it where it had made contact with the ground. Looking up, she prepared an apology for whomever she had bugged, "Um, hello. Sorry about tha-" Her voice froze, and she blinked at the pair in the room. One of them -a boy with shoulder-length hair and a handsome face- blinked at her, clearly pretty out of it. His companion, however, stared agog at Kat, before looking down at herself in realization of her lack of clothes. Kat's hands flew to her eyes, and she spun around and ran.

Into the wall.

"Ow! Er, sorry. Really! I'm not a pervert! I- I-" She didn't finish her sentence before bolting, this time using the door like a regular person.

Her cheeks were still flaming as she left the party.

By the time she'd made it outside, her phone told her that it was half-past,before slipping it back into her pocket she sent the three texts she'd prepared before her incident with the kisser and the nakedness and the mortification. In that order.

To: Ash ; Giselle ; Lil Red
Happy New Year!!! Any of you in need of a New Year's kiss? ;)

Her faux-leather boot came crashing into the ivory mound, causing a spray of crystalline sparkles to shoot through the air, separating like the fireworks that powdered the sky above. She watched said fireworks with a bright smile, a soft ooh escaping her lips every time that another shot of color was fired into the dark abyss, exploding into a shower of peppering glitter.

"Happy New Year." She murmured it to herself with a wan shift in expression, as her hand reached out to catch the falling snowflakes.

Her hand unconsciously ran itself over the white bed sheets as her finger tips brushed gently against the cool and smooth white fabric. Rhythmatic drum snares played throughout her ears as her eyes blinked open slowly. Blair had her daily dose of socializing a few hours ago before she crashed on her bed after coming down from a sugar high. Honestly downing ten Dr.peppers couldn't be healthy at all but it happened and once that sugar disappeared form her system so did her energy and thus we are here. Blair rolled onto her back and placed her arm across her forehead so only her left eye was exposed while the other was covered by her arm. Her sleepy gaze slowly fell upon the fairy lights she had hanging over her bed while her brain caught up with her and noticed that the drum snare she was hearing was actually the song here by Alessia Cara, apparently Blair fell asleep with her earbuds in. She relaxed there for a few minutes before actually contemplating on getting up. She truly felt lazy right now, she needed more sugar. Ah yes, lots and lots of sugar.

That first shift in order to get out of bed made her groan as all her limbs felt heavy and just . . . floppy. She sat up, swing her feet off the bed and slipped them into her black slippers then got up. Blair stretched upwards until her cozy sweater lifted just enough to expose a small part of her tattoo that covered a part of her stomach an d abdomen. As soon as she felt that cold breeze hit her stomach though the red head quickly dropped her arms and felt a shiver run up her spine. It was sudden but a nice pick-me-up. As she went to take her first step one of Blair's earbuds fell out and that's when she caught the sound of chaos, sex and drunken bros all mixed into one incohesive and very abnormal blur of cheering and laughing. Her eyes widened in that second but they returned to normal as soon as she registered what was going on. Of course she forgot that it was still new years when she woke up, didn't know sugar could do all that, damn.

Blair finished pulling off the other earbud and tossed them on her bed along with her ipod before remembering her phone died earlier today. She walked over to it and found that it finally turned on and was 87% charged but what she always found was that she had multiple messages from a whole bunch of people. The red-head couldn't fight a small smile that tugged at the corner of her lips because even though most of these were just mass messages she was happy that she was included in something. With phone in hand Blair decided to brace herself and check how everything was looking in the halls. Exiting her dimly lit room her feet shuffled over to the mini fridge where she pulled out a nice cold can of Dr. pepper and popped the cap on it. The first splash of the liquidy substance was like bliss and a shock of energy engulfing her taste buds. There was a sudden crash out in the hall followed by a yell and a few shouts from some obviously drunken bros that instinctively made Blair jump. " Ugh, can't tell if they're celebrating or getting eaten by zombies." she said out loud to no one in particular.

Maybe she'd be able to find one of her best friends out in the hectic crowd. I mean knowing Ash Blair probably wouldn't find her out there but damn, it didn't hurt to dream did it? Taking another sip of her liquid cocaine the red head took a step into the hall and into the middle of all these yelling, lusty, overly excited sweaty bodies. The girl had tip-toed around people trying to peak over tall ass guys in order to see anyone she knew. At one point Blair had climbed up onto some guys shoulder and took the opportunity to scope out anybody but nothing. The guy on the other hand honestly was too smashed to even notice what was going on and once Blair landed back on her feet she petted his head like a doggy saying "Good, Brian" before walking off back in the direction of her room.

While on the journey back to her room though the count down began and everybody was counting down. It was loud but somehow Blair was feeling a bit giddy and excited. The sugar began hitting her and her pupils dilated while her mood lightened up and she joined in to the count down. "Three- Two- One! Happy New Years!!" everyone's voice was in union and that's when the hugging and kissing began. Blair ducked and weaved her ass out of there but right when shew as about to enter her room she was caught by Nerdy Sally who she honestly didn't know could get drunk, at all. She was such the up tight and homework focused type that didn't have time for parties or anything that had fun in it. So you could see why it came as a surprise to Blair when she saw her drunk and even more so when the woman took Blair by the hips and planted one right on her. Her red lipstick made a mirror image on Blair's lips and she stood there in shock for a second while her cheeks began to grow warm.

Sally winked at Blair while slipping something into her pj pockets before she danced her way back into the crowd. Blair quickly took this moment to dash into her room and close it shut behind her as if she was being chased and needed to keep whatever was on the other side of the door out no matter what. Her hand reached into her pocket and revealed a small piece of paper with a phone number on it. "Holy shite, is this her number?" Her eyes went over the numbers on the paper before a blush grew on her cheeks and a devilish smirk appeared on her lips. At least she still got it, Blair thought as her smirk turned into a goofy grin. The redhead wiped the lipstick off her lips with her hand then wiped it on her shorts then applied her vanilla chap stick. Suddenly her phone sung out the opening theme to buffy the vampire slayer and she instantly knew who it was without even looking at the text. It was Kat and boy was she glad to hear from her roommate because she wasn't in the dorm when Blair woke up. After reading the text Blair's fingers began to run across the keyboard as she wrote back.

To Kit-Kat:
"Happy new years to you too luv!! Apparently I got mines from Nerdy Sally, surprising right? BUT! I don't mind another ;3 "

Blair pressed the send button and slightly giggled at what she wrote before walking back into her room and booting up her computer. She was bored and alone so why not try and work on her hacking skills, the ones she learned from Synth, her mr. miyagi. Her bottom met the comfy chair, her throat swallowed back a huge gulp of her soda and her fingers began to type away on the illuminated screen.

Screw it, fuck it, I'm dying. Blair had been working on this code for a couple of days now and has been doing everything Sytnth has told her to do but she was still stuck on this one little part of the code that made everything click, as in work. She was getting frustrated real fast and after twenty minutes of trying to fix it she finally through her head back on the chair and groaned loudly. " Frrrackity Frack!" she exhaled before training her eyes on the ceiling as her brain worked through everything that could be wrong with the code. Finally when she couldn't come up with anything her hand shot out to her phone.

To Mr.Miyagi:
"Much help needed luv! Your young grasshopper cannot fix this code for the life of her and frankly I'm on the verge of an absolute informational overload."

She quickly pressed the send button before groaning again and throwing her head back once more staring up at the ceiling.

      XXXThe sky fell,
XXXbeads of white frost drifting like ashes from the Heavens. The clouds emptied their pockets of rain, releasing them into the unknown, to freeze and plummet and collapse beneath dirty feet. She felt their feather touch on her nose, in her hair, dissolving on her tongue as she tilted her head towards the skies. It clung to her lashes and she blinked them aside.
XXXShe sighed at Chris' comment regarding the pain of jagged ice. The solution seemed so obvious to her. He need only warm his blood without enabling the electricity to venture beyond his skin. Just enough to produce enough energy to increase his resting temperature and melt any snowballs before they pelted him. She supposed he was merely lazy, unwilling, or ignorant. After all, what was the worst that could happen? He electrocuted everyone. She'd always been immune to his electricity - it energised her more than anything, though it made her rather nauseous afterwards.
XXX"Oh, you weren't hurt back there right?" Chris asked her. "I was a bit too pissed from that asshole to ask. You're alright, right?" he repeated.
XXXHis concern had always seemed an odd thing to her. She hadn't trusted it initially; she barely trusted it now. She didn't know what concern for her could serve. It was odd to think he cared simply because he did. Because he believed some bond hovered between them like strings she could not see, entwining about their fingers, their limbs, their hearts, tugging and propelling themselves towards each other. He cared for her because he liked her. It would be the death of him, his concern. As it was the death of everyone. He loved so fiercely, and it was such a hopelessly human thing to do.
XXXSometimes Synthia forgot she was human, too.
XXX"And if I were not?" she asked quietly, but she stepped away before he could answer, tugging his jacket from her shoulders as she did so. The cold bit her shoulders, its fingers grazing her neck. She clenched her jaw to keep them from chattering.
XXX"The cannon won't be necessary. This practical is specifically hands o-" Katherine said nervously, before her head was whipped to the side by a carefully thrown snowball. Synthia observed its velocity. 201mph. Nearly twice the speed of Stephen Strasburg's fastest pitch. She wondered if Sam ever considered becoming a professional athlete, though she supposed he would have to hold back for mortal eyes. Besides, she liked him better here, by her side.
      XXXSlavery could be so affordable.
XXX"I don't suppose you'd care to join me and these morons in a no-cannon snowball war, would you?" Kat asked. "Otherwise you could always be..." Synthia saw the snowball before it left Kat's hands. She calculated the arch of the girl's elbow, the depth with which she pulled her arm back, and the angle. It would hit the right of Synthia's 9th rib. She knew all this, but her body was too slow to dodge it. "Collateral damage!"
XXX"Wild inventions are banned too!" Aislinn shouted from a distance. "No snowball-making mechanical devices! They're cheating!"
      XXXSynthia pursed her lips.
XXX"My apologies," she said. "Please allow me a moment to detach my head from my shoulders. I suppose my thinking would constitute cheating as well."
XXXWhat Synthia lacked in physical prowess, she made up for in strategy. She shifted so any snowballs pelted at her ended up striking someone else. She moved unpredictably, and she drew eyes to her only to slide behind someone else so the ice struck them instead.
XXXShe lifted a handful of snow and rolled it into a perfect sphere. She threw it at Katherine.
XXXIt fell mere feet in front of her, and collapsed in a heap a sizeable distance away from her target.
      XXXTragic.
XXXHer limbs felt like the ice she attempted to throw. Her knees wobbled and she leaned against a tree, shutting her heavy eyelids against the parade of raunchy students. She swallowed, and even that seemed a struggle.
XXXShe reached for the pockets of her skirt, searching for the small bottle of prednisone. She couldn't find it. She must have left it in hers and Spencer's room. It angered her, as so many things did these days.
XXXShe knew anger was irrational. Of course she did. There was no reason to wish she didn't have this stupid disease with its stupid symptoms and stupid medication. There was no reason, unless it helped her find a cure. She'd said as much to the doctor who'd given her the prognosis.
XXX"Up to 30 in every 1 million people are diagnosed with myasthenia gravis every year," he'd said, and that had angered her too. Of course she knew that. Did he think muscle weakness meant a weakness in her brain as well? Of course not. She'd been mad because it had and did interfere with her work. How could she ever find a cure, if merely keeping her eyes open was hard.
XXXTruly, she was devastated, but devastation was so much worse than anger. Anger fuelled action, devastation fuelled nothing. But she was. She was devastated that it was too painful to sing, so she didn't. Eating was hard, so she didn't. She'd likely lost some weight in the months since her symptoms first came to her notice. And smiling was hard, so she did it even less than she did before. Not because she was giving up, but because it was more important to save her energy for her work. Synthia Faye still had so much to do before the disease touched her lungs and made breathing and staying alive too difficult. She had to touch the moon. She had to see Mars with her own eyes. She had to find a cure for Cancer, and myasthenia gravis while she was at it.
      XXXShe would. She must.
XXX"Christopher," she said. Her fingers brushed his hand, featherlight. But she might as well have wrapped her arms around him and pulled him forward, for how little she touched anyone. "Give me a shock," she said. It would tide her over until she got to her room. Until she could collapse in her bed instead of right here. She refused to be weak.
XXXIt didn't matter that it would make her ill later. The medication did that well enough on its own anyway.
XXXA text message flashed across her vision.

      From: Failing Prodigy
Much help needed luv! Your young grasshopper cannot fix this code for the life of her and frankly I'm on the verge of an absolute informational overload.

XXXSynthia chewed the inside of her cheek. It was a challenge. She was weary, but she'd never been one to take orders from anyone, much less her mortal shell. She left for Blair's room. Each step ached.
XXXSynthia did not bother to knock. She slipped into the Blair's room and was met with a sprinkle of soft, golden light. It was admittedly rather relaxing.
XXX"Your inadequacy brings me pain," she said by way of greeting. Synthia did her best to seat herself on Blair's bed like a normal human being, but it was more of a collapse. She leaned back until she was lying on her bed. Blair always had the fluffiest pillows, and so many of them as well. Her room stood in stark contrast to Synthi's. Whose plain, white walls, perfectly pressed white sheets and machines made for a rather uninviting space.
XXXHere was a little piece of tranquility. Synthia shut her eyes.
XXX"Mmm," she mused. "If only you weren't here. The relaxation would be complete."
XXXBeneath her lids, her eyes bled into a stunning swirl of kaleidoscopic hues. Her reached out with her mind until she felt the familiar pulse of Blair's computer. She caught the thread of its interface. Suddenly, Blair's computer seemed to move itself.
XXXIt shifted from page to page and lengths of code alternated between one another, scrolling so rapidly it didn't seem possible for anything except a computer to process it. Synthia paused at a section of code.
XXX"Here," she said. "You should have swapped the two variables using the XOR gate." The entries backspaced before lines of code emerged as if invisible fingers were moving across the keys faster than the naked eye could see.
XXXThis was easy. Effortless. If nothing else, Synthia was relieved the disease had not affected her cerebral functions. Computers did not expect anything from her.
XXX"Is there anything else you would like to ask? Something a little less disappointing than rudimentary coding errors, perhaps?" Synthia asked. "I suggest, 'how would you like your coffee?' or 'how may I serve you, my overlord?' A massage would be lovely."

"Your inadequacy brings me pain," was the first sentence said in about 5 minutes or so that broke the silence in Blair's room and made her eyes shift form the ceiling over to the door where Synth had just walked through and followed her to the bed. The first thing Blair noticed about the blonde was that she looked a bit more tired than usual. Blair wanted to say something smart back but in that moment nothing came to mind and she just puffed her cheeks a little as if she was mad before sticking out her tongue. " You still came though." she protested before getting up from her chair and stretching again. She watched as Synth made herself comfy on her bed but honestly Blair didn't mind at all. Even the schools robot needed to relax once in a while, not that Blair calls her the schools robot.

"If only you weren't here. The relaxation would be complete." said Synth with eyes closed which only made a small smirk pull at the edges of Blair's lips. "I mean I can always hold my breath so you can't hear me." her answer was a sarcastic one but more of a playful one than a rude one. Blair's feet began to move as she exited her room for a second and into the small kitchen that was in the dorm room. She got the coffee machine warmed up as she caught the sight of the many flashing lights coming from her dimly lit room from the corner of her eye. No doubt Synth was working her magic. Blair heard Synth from the small kitchen as she said here which instinctively made the redheads body move back towards her room where she peaked her head in as Synth pointed out and fixed the problem. "You should have swapped the two variables using the XOR gate."

"Ah, I knew that looked a little out of place but I just wasn't sure. " Blair answered in a rather thoughtful tone. As Synth continued to do her thing Blair ran back over to the coffee machine and got it all ready. The coffee was starting to pour out in the cup when she heard Synth talking from her room. "Is there anything else you would like to ask? Something a little less disappointing than rudimentary coding errors, perhaps?"

Blair shook her head while smiling to herself as she prepared the coffee. Synth was still herself even when she was tired. "I suggest, 'how would you like your coffee?' or 'how may I serve you, my overlord?' A massage would be lovely." Once Blair had finished she walked back into her room with a steaming cup of coffee just the way Synth liked it or rather just drank it and when she didn't say anything Blair knew she succeeded. "Actually, I don't need to ask the first question because I already know how you like it luv." Blair set the coffee on the night stand beside Synth and crawled herself up onto her bed sitting on the opposite end of Synth. Luckily this bed was big enough for two people or Synth would have gotten knocked onto the floor. "And overlord? Isn't it a bit too early for that? Once you have 99% of the human race enslaved then maybe I'll consider calling you my overlord." The red head reached over and grabbed the small remote to her stereo where she pressed the on button and then pressed play to reveal that her Halsey disk had just started over, much to her delight and stared with Is There Somewhere.

The song seemed to fit the whole dreammy-ish feel she had going on in her room and honestly Blair could feel the vibrations of everything around her meshing so seamlessly that it felt quite nice and relaxing. Her hand reached over and her slender fingers gently pulled off one of Synth's shoes then the other. "Your not an overlord yet so that means no shoes on my bed and if your serious about that massage, well I don't have anything better to do." she answered non nonchalantly while shrugging.

Ash couldn't help giggling to herself as Reed exclaimed out loud as the snow made contact. She noticed he was lifting her slightly - at least, she thought he was, she wasn't conscious she was lifting herself up or anything - but just held him close to her. It felt like the first interaction they had had, except they weren't floating awkwardly in the sea and were almost knee deep in snow instead.

Sam then decided to interrupt their time together with a second barrage of snow. Laughing, Ash cried, "BIG mistake Sam!
" before holding out her hand, redirecting the air currents quickly to bounce the snowballs back into Sam's face. It was easy to do this - it didn't require Ash to hold her breath for too long, and it didn't take the breath out of her. Other things, like creating sustained air barriers, would trigger this, and therefore, trigger Ash's fear. She swallowed the lump in her throat at the thought of this, before Reed pulled her away and under cover.

Honestly? I didn’t think I’d see you again and please do, Aislinn Mae,” He said, and Ash almost melted, like the snow that was sinking into her clothes and bit into her skin. She felt positively warm, and it was obvious. Her cheeks glowed a rosy pink, and her nose was gaining a reddish tint to it. She felt warm in her core, through her bones and in her blood, and this was made obvious from the snow beginning to melt around the pair. She bit her lip. "Oops." She muttered, giving a small smile and turning it off again to the best of her ability.

He began talking about the kiss again and Ash blushed. She'd enjoyed it, but she had never really had a physical relationship - or even a boyfriend - and so she was very unsure about the whole thing. "I'm sorry about pulling away so suddenly, by the way." She apologized hurriedly. "It's just... I have a fear. Of suffocating." She blushed again, looking at her feet and swaying awkwardly from side to side. "I almost drowned once before when I was little, which is when my powers kind of came about. It's... kind of crippling, and means I can't use my powers." She explained, shrugging. She didn't want to play it like it was some big thing, even though it was, and it affected her life so deeply. She took a deep breath and sighed, before pressing her face into his shoulder again. "You're warm." She mumbled to herself.

She was silent for a few seconds before he spoke again. ”It feels like forever ago, you know?” She nodded in agreement, revealing her face again. "It was only two years ago," She responded quietly, "But yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I told you though. I promised." She bit her lip again, but before anything more could happen, Reed's cold hand took hers and dragged her out from under cover just as someone new joined the group. Ash gave a friendly smile, ignoring the nerves that twisted her stomach, and shouted, "Hey! You're welcome to join us if you like!" She had bright red hair, a bit like Blair's, and was pretty. She looked lost. Maybe she was a new student - she had to be if she was on school grounds.

Ash didn't notice much else until Ella announced the party was moving to Sam's dorm. She was still holding Reed's hand, and noticed that it was feeling a lot warmer than it was before. She shrugged. "Well, we might as well. It is getting rather cold out." She laughed. "Beware, all jumpers and hoodies! Lock yourselves down! I'm on the way to steal you all!" She announced, before tugging on Reed's hand. "Come on, I'll show you my dorm quickly, and then we can join Ella in whatever antics she has planned." She suggested, before leading the way to her dorm. While there, she put on a jumper over the top of her grey one. It was warm, and very cosy. Ash turned to Reed quickly, and asked, "Do you want to borrow a blanket or something to warm up? And do you want to head straight to Sam's dorm, or do you need to pick anything up, or do anything beforehand?"

"Your version of showing off is almost completely idiotic and ineffective." Annabeth commented from the passenger seat as she turned her head towards Nathaniel who was in the driver's seat of his car. "You should've done the disappearing party trick when Chris was still around instead of standing there gawking at Landon's chest." Nathaniel rolled his eyes and started the car. "Now why would I need to worry about that..." He smirked and put a hand on her thigh. "When I've got you, Annie."

Annabeth arched her eyebrow at him and a surge of pain flooded to his head until he let go and began to scream. Annabeth smirked and let go. "Stop being an idiot and drive back to the mansion." Nathaniel mumbled something before pulling out of the parking lot and heading back to the mansion. Annabeth pulled out her phone and began typing away. "Stop at the liquor store before hand and get something good. Apparently everyone's favourite speedster is having a party in his dorm." She looked up from her phone. "Might as well make it fun."

Nathaniel rolled his eyes and stopped at the liquor store like she asked. He grabbed a few cases of beers, some vodka, tequila, and used his powers to make the clerk think he paid for it before getting out of there. Annabeth began to text everyone in her contacts list about the party going on and made sure to inform them there'd be alcohol. It seemed that booze was the only way to get a bunch of teenagers all together for a good time.

      XXXXXXShe often lost her body.
XXXIt was harder to find than most people thought; most of humanity took their awareness of it for granted. She rarely felt much when she immersed herself in cyberspace, but she felt Blair. She felt the tug of her shoe, the brush of the girl's knuckles as it grazed her ankles. She felt it through the layers of wool and nylon woven through her stockings, through skin and flesh and blood, until it struck her bone and pulled her from the Otherworld.
XXXHer back arched and she rose from the Other side as if pulled from it. She sat upright, her eyes snapping open. Swirls of glowing violet, molten gold and ruby red bled away to reveal sea green eyes that stared at Blair in surprise.
XXX"...dancing in your tube socks in our hotel room," the lilting whisper of Halsey's voice swam into her consciousness. "Flashing those eyes like highway signs."
XXXBut it was Blair's voice that Synthia heard. Her hand that she felt.
XXXIt was rare for Synthia to seek human touch, rarer still for others to seek hers. There was an aura of caution that surrounded her, something that marked her as other like an electric force field.
XXXPerhaps Blair was not scared enough.
      XXXPerhaps Synthia would make her.
XXXShe tugged her leg away and leaned forward, a movement so sudden Synthia hadn't realised she'd moved until her knees pressed on either side of the girl. Her shoes tumbled to the floor.
XXXHer gaze touched Blair's, and slid to her nose, her mouth, her chin.
XXX"And what sort of overlord would I be," she began with a voice that was dark and airy, like smoke unfurling from her tongue. Her eyes were tinted glass as they watched Blair, seeing all but revealing nothing. "If I allowed my underlings to touch me as you just did?"
XXXShe lifted a hand, and tucked a scarlett lock behind Blair's ear, her palm brushing the edge of Blair's cheek, uncharacteristically warm. Synthia followed every movement with her eyes, and gave a mirthless smile.
XXX"I will initiate contact," she breathed over Blair's lips.
XXXSynthia pulled back suddenly, wrapping her fingers around the steaming mug. She took a sip.
XXX"Black," she said of the coffee. "Like my heart." She arched a brow and gave Blair a smirk that dimpled her cheek. "You know me so well, darling."
XXXFrom her lips, the epithet seemed more theatric than anything. Synthia leaned into the mattress, careful not to brush against Blair as she tucked her feet beneath her. She drummed her fingers to the beat of the music. Blair had always had wonderful taste in music. That Synthia would give her.
XXXNothing more, her mind told her. Nothing more.
XXX"And how has your New Year's been unravelling, Blair?" She quirked her head and lifted her cup, staring into its depths as she swirled the liquid within, as if it might hold secrets darker than its coffee brown. Her smile was cool and brittle when it rose to her lips. "Sally Kelsea McKennan, I see?" she murmured, her eyes taking on that glassy quality when she watched through the lens of the school cameras. She was an aid to - or rather the - school security, once the Academy discovered it was virtually impossible to keep her from their databases. They'd settled on allowing her access, in return for her information. More often than not, she had nothing to offer them save for who kissed who and who left who. Though the occasional illicit dealing had been easy enough to spot. People were careless with their texts and public activities, as if the greatest cyberkinetic of their time did not walk in their midst.
XXXThough sometimes Synthia wished her she could unsee.
XXXIf only she truly were a machine, she thought.
XXXIf only she could stop, start and rewind as easily as she could breathe.
XXXThough she supposed, soon, she would not be very good at that either.
XXX"I did not envision her to be your type," Synthia continued calmly, taking a sip of her drink. She eyed Blair over the rim of her cup. "Congratulations."

Kat couldn't resist a little fistpump and cheer as the snowball hit her speedy target smack in the face. However, her victory was short-lived, and with an epic battle cry of "Rules were made to be broken!", Sam began pelting her with snow, his hands forming spheres and throwing them at ridiculous speeds, a blur of fair shades. As the snow fell upon her in a miniature blizzard, Kat screamed, raising her hands in a failed attempt to keep the bludgeoning balls at bay.

"Two can play at that game, Drake!"

Frowning in concentration, the balls stopped hitting her, piling into the snow behind her, and sliding through her like bullets through smoke. She looked at Sam in mock surprise, lips curved into an 'o' and eyes wide and innocent.

"Oh? What's this? Can't you hit me, Samuel?"

Despite the competitiveness quickly revealing itself through the 'battle', Kat couldn't deny that she was coming to enjoy her opponent's company. She had never really interacted with Sam, but in all honesty, she was almost disappointed. She'd been missing out.

Even if he was a total cheater.

Shooting him a wink, she forced her skin to melt into nothingness. As her powers took hold, transparency bloomed on her skin, and in less than a second, she was a ghost.

An aggressively competitive, snowball-throwing ghost.

With a wiley grin, Kat slipped around her battle ground, stopping to fill her also-invisible hat full of the snow. Her grin still present on her face, Kat crept behind Sam, her finger reaching out to hook the back of his tee's neck. Then, in one swift motion, she tipped the contents of her hat down the back of his shirt. Her shift in concentration brought her back to visibility, and she couldn't restrain her laughter.

In One Ear

"You lazy ass. Be prepared to work for that ride... I don't do charity." Spencer rolled her eyes. "And it's 1 and 1... Learn to count. I got one with my truck door thank you." She could feel both their eyes on her backside when she walked to his truck. Normally she would make a comment but all she wanted was to go back to the mansion and grab a nice bottle of whiskey to warm her right up. And maybe fool around with Landon or try her luck with one of the many attractive women that attended this fine school of freaks.

She waited until he got into the driver's seat and then spoke. "For the record, I also took down Chris so that has to count for something." She smirked at him. "But I guess we could call it a tie..." She shrugged and both of their phones went off at the same time with a text from Annabeth. The hot Orion sibling.

"Soooo... Party in Sam's room. You in?" He looked over at Spence as he asked the question. "We could always grab that crazy roommate of yours. I'm sure she'd be the life of the party." Spencer grinned. "Of course I'm in! I need some girl action in my life!" She laughed and began to form a text on her phone for her roommate as they arrived back at the mansion.

{To: The Robotic Princess}
Party at Sam's. You're going. I'll make Leo bring you lots of coffee.

She hit send and jumped down from the seat after she opened the truck door. Spencer made her way to the boy's dorm rooms with Landon behind her until she found Sam's door and barged in without knocking. "The fun has arrived!"

Blair only had a few seconds to respond to Synth's surprised reaction before she was trapped between her knees. The sudden movement made her draw a sharp breath that was quiet and soft but still showed her surprise. Blair fell silent as sky blue eyes observed the blonde in front of her, her gaze seemingly scanning her face. Did she do something or was there something on her face Blair thought to herself. "And what sort of overlord would I be," that dark and floaty voice that slipped out from pink lips in front of her made Blair's heart slightly beat a bit faster. If it were someone else, Synth's tone may have sounded a bit intimidating but to Blair, right now in this moment it was a bit off from her regular self. It was a good odd because Blair didn't mind it at all and actually quite liked the tone but something was up.

"If I allowed my underlings to touch me as you just did?" Synth's hand brushed a lock of hair behind Blair's ear and the slight contact from the woman in front of her made her cheeks grow a bit warm while the smile caused Blair to finally look away and avoid Synth's eyes. She couldn't look back into them because if she did, Blair was afraid that Synth would see right into her soul, notice the feelings that she held deep down within her for the other girl. "I will initiate contact," as sudden as Blair felt Synth's breath on her lips it was gone and Blair was left pondering a thought in her head. Is she testing me or something?

With that in mind Blair looked back at Synth as if she suddenly snapped out of her day dream. That feeling of nervousness disappearing like smoke as naturally tinted red lips parted to speak. "Ah, but your lordship does not apply to me because I wouldn't recognize you as my overlord, " her voice was soft, velvety even. " so again, your rules wouldn't apply to me because I. simply. wouldn't. care." Blair let the last four worlds roll off her tongue one by one. She watched Synth enjoy her coffee and even though her face didn't express it in that moment Blair somehow knew that she liked it.

Synth continued, saying that her heart was as black as the coffee she was drinking. The smirk that made itself present on her face and the comment she added in after made Blair scoff, smile and roll her eyes. She sweetly responded with a sarcastic "Don't I?" before Blair completely laid back on the mattress closing her eyes and letting the music sink into her bones. "But your lips hang heavy underneath me, and I promised myself I wouldn't let you complete me." Blair sung along to the song in a hushed tone. It was soft enough that Halsey's voice could be heard loud and clear but loud enough that you could just faintly hear the words come out of her mouth. In that small moment Blair continued to sing in tune with Synth's finger drumming. Her body relaxed into the soft mattress and that's when she thought that she could lay here all day, or night in her case with the blondes presence right beside her.

"And how has your New Year's been unraveling, Blair?" Blair's ears twitched slightly at the sound of Synth's voice speaking to her. "Surprising then . . . " her voice trailed off for a moment as she thought before speaking again. "pleasant." Her eyes remained closed as Blair just concentrated on Synth's voice while a soft, genuine smile made itself appear upon the red heads lips. The pleasant part was definitely directed towards Synth which is why a smile came across Blair's lips but she didn't think Synth would pick up on it so the comment was just enjoyed by her. "Sally Kelsea McKennan, I see?" Of course she saw that but the way that name came off of Synth's tongue just made Blair want to laugh a bit. She made it sound so official that it was actually kind of adorable.

The red head had to hold it in though. "I did not envision her to be your type," Blair thought about it for a second. She really didn't have a type did she? "Congratulations." The bed shifted slightly underneath her as she perched herself onto her elbows. " She isn't," her voice was calm as her eyes locked on Synth's. "not really the new years kiss I had envisioned, well, I didn't really think of having one but if I did it wouldn't be like that, reeking of alcohol." Blair quickly ran her tongue over her lips out of habit before continuing. "Honestly I didn't think miss nose in the books could even get drunk, I was taken off guard, an attack on an innocent Scottish girl!"Blair laid back down on the mattress while her fingers ran through her own hair. "How about you, how has your new years been?"

XXXXXX"She isn't," Blair responded. Her voice flowed like liquid sugar, warm as it struck, but crystallising around the hearts of the unsuspecting when it touched. "Not really the New Year's kiss I had envisioned, well, I didn't really think of having one but if I did it wouldn't be like that, reeking of alcohol." A smile played on her lips. "Honestly I didn't think miss nose in the books could even get drunk, I was taken off guard, an attack on an innocent Scottish girl!"
XXXSynthia followed every syllable, every minuscule shift in eye movement. Every rhythmic breath, every cadence. Every inflection in her voice, every twitch of a finger. She saw everything, all the time. And she analysed. She read. She searched for lies woven beneath the truth. She searched for insincerity.
XXXBut it didn't seem to matter how extraordinarily intelligent Synthia was.
XXXBecause she saw what she wished to see, anyway.
XXX"How about you, how has your New year's been?" Blair asked.
XXXSynthia took a lingering sip of the black coffee before resting it soundlessly on the side table. She was still looking at the movements of her hands when she began to answer, flicking her gaze to meet Blair's only with the third sentence. "Oh, you know. The usual. Spencer and Landon insisted on partaking in beastly ministrations. Although, Christopher did not electrify any machines, surprisingly enough. He did electrocute a few people though." She paused, thinking, before continuing with a nonchalant shrug. "But who cares. Someone had a gun to my head and I am almost certain Reed and Aislinn are on the verge of reproduction." She narrowed her eyes, lips curling in distaste as if nibbling on something foul. "Like I said, nothing important happened."
XXXSynthia sighed, crossing her arms over her chest as she leaned into the pillows.
XXX"Honestly," she began. "Adolescents should be careful or homosexual. The earth is overpopulated." Synthia shook her head in disapproval. "Did you know the world's population is estimated to reach 9.6211 billion in 35 years? I suggest eradicating the old; they are a burden on the healthcare system."
XXXHer eyes shone with a sudden, quiet excitement.
XXX"I have been endeavouring to construct an incubation system for youths as well as a synthetic hormone to hasten the speed of human development," she said. "Infants are virtually useless and very ugly. I saw one the other day," she asserted, almost with surprise. "It merely laid there."
XXXSynthia quirked her head to the side, her eyes staring into another space.
XXX"A party is undergoing in Samuel's dorm," she informed Blair. "Do you wish to partake in their group activities? I have read that socialisation is healthy in selective amounts. However, humans carry with them many strains of bacteria, but I am approximately 87.21% certain you will not contract a grave virus from Samuel and his companions. Landon's, Spencer's or Nathaniel's, on the other hand..." she considered seriously, her eyes flickering as she performed a series of calculations. "I estimate a 99.14% possibility that you will contract nausea from their very presence."

A small sigh escaped her lips when Synth mentioned Spencer and Landon but what made Blair quickly sit up with a slight worried expression on her face was when Synth said that she had a gun to her head. "Wait, what?!" Her brows knitted together as her eyes scanned Synth's face for any marks or indication that the gun was pressed against her head. "Like I said, nothing important happened." Blair's hand reached out slowly as her thumb ran across a small part of her forehead, right where the gun was pointed at. "You don't have a mark," she whispered softly. Her hand pulled away as a relived sigh escaped her lips. "It may not be important to you but it is to me." In that moment Blair didn't catch exactly what she had just said only that the blonde in front of her was okay and safe and even if she did Blair wouldn't try to hide it.

The first song playing on the Cd Blair made had finished and was in the midst of switching to the second song. In those couple of seconds of silence when the music was changing Blair could feel the shift of vibrations in the air. It was off but once the music began again that little hole in the vibrations was re-filled. The song that began o play was I Walk The Line. "Honestly, Adolescents should be careful or homosexual. The earth is overpopulated." Blair gave a small laugh, "and that's why I'm gay." she responded before Synth continued. "Did you know the world's population is estimated to reach 9.6211 billion in 35 years? I suggest eradicating the old; they are a burden on the healthcare system." Blair shook her head while she swung her feet off the bed as if she was about to stand up. " I agree and disagree," Blair started. "I like old people, most are sweet and wise but there houses almost always seem to smell like soup and stale crackers." her lips couldn't seem to fight off the giggles that escaped her throat but when Synth began to explain one of her little projects to her, Blair couldn't seem to take her eyes off of her.

She listened to every word that escaped her mouth with such genuine interest that when Synth finally finished her sentence Blair caught herself staring into those green eyes longer than usual. Quickly her eyes shifted away, down at her hands as she rubbed her left palm over her right knuckles. Blair was smart, brilliant even but she was nowhere near where Synth was and to her that was cool. It was something she looked up to the blonde for. " I suggest making them into gummies. Children are your main target and well what kind of child doesn't like candy?" Her smile soften when Synth mentioned babies. Her eyes dawned a soft expression when she looked over at Synth. "Babies aren't ugly, they're small, adorable and squishy. Like cute little potatoes." Blair once again laughed softly at her own statement standing up from her comfy bed and stretching up high.

"A party is undergoing in Samuel's dorm," Synth said. "Do you wish to partake in their group activities? I have read that socialization is healthy in selective amounts. However, humans carry with them many strains of bacteria, but I am approximately 87.21% certain you will not contract a grave virus from Samuel and his companions. Landon's, Spencer's or Nathaniel's, on the other hand..."

"I estimate a 99.14% possibility that you will contract nausea from their very presence." Blair looked over her should as she stretched, listening to Synth. "Mmm," Once that lovely bone cracked in her back Blair resumed her regular position and leaned over the bed with her hands pressed against the mattress, her face merely inches away from Synths. " Alright, what are you waiting for then?" she pulled away again and stood up straight holding a hand out to her. "Come on, get your overlord butt outta bed and let's get this socializing on the road."

XXXShe stared at the hand Blair offered,
XXXand placed the coffee mug in her palm.
XXX"Mmm," Synthia mused. "And here I was, hoping you'd disagree."

      From: Woody Womb-Pecking Wanker
Zeus blew up another cell phone... Down right genocide. If you wanna kick his ass he's at Sam's. But it's a party... So don't bust in here being a vacuum, suckin' up all the fun.

XXXHer eyes flickered across the invisible screen as she read the message, releasing a long, exasperated sigh.
XXXTitanium. The phone Synthia had built for him had had a titanium shell, mixed with nichrome alloy, a concoction that had the electrical resistivity over a hundred times that of copper.
XXXHer eyes nearly rolled into the back of her head.
      XXXTitanium. She'd wasted titanium.
XXX"I am considering investing in a Birthing Simulator," she murmured to herself. "57 Del Units of pain might shock the thundering brute into being more careful."
XXXShe walked out of Blair's room, without seeing if the other girl would follow. The students parted for her, nearly plastering themselves to the wall in their haste to escape. It seemed knowledge of her threat towards Lucas had spread. It was somewhat amusing to Synthia, who realised her companions, including Blair, had powers much more conducive to inflicting biological harm.
XXXBut most injuries, and certainly pain, were things people could recover from.
XXXA criminal record, a butchered reputation, a collapsed family dynamic... Those, those were much harder to mend.
XXXAnd she supposed Blair had a kindness she lacked. A sweetness she could never replicate. Blair was an Autumn tree - gentle and altruistic even when her leaves collapsed, beautiful in the end.
XXXAnd Christopher had an immutable sense of morality and justice that prevented him from harming any who did not deserve it. People did not fear his unpredictability, because they knew he would not threaten any who did not threaten what he cared for.
XXXLandon's words repeated in her head.
      XXXVacuum.
      XXXVacuum.
      XXXVacuum.

XXXIt pulsed like a second heart, or her first, considering the vacancy in her chest. She did not know why it bothered her. Surely she knew she was a black hole. Self-pity did nothing. And yet her mind stumbled and raced, turning through memories and knowledge and thoughts that screeched louder than the scrape or clang of metal and factories.
XXXSamuel, who could easily rob a bank or wreck havoc, did not. An innate agreeableness rested in him. He endeavoured to please and communicate; too friendly to be feared. Most of the time.
XXXAislinn was an angel incarnate. She walked on stardust and clouds and the softest silk. Her concern for others was a tangible thing. The students admired her, would protect her. She had no enemies Synthia could name.
XXXKatherine, who saw in Synthia something so few did, she was hopeless. Hopelessly trusting and optimistic. It frustrated Synthia at times, who could see only demise and exploitation, but she knew she was isolated in that opinion. Katherine's innocence was endearing. She was.
XXXEven Elizabeth, whom Synthia harboured no love for, might be considered friendlier than her. Her Darker ego was a thing of nightmares, but at least beneath it, the Light simmered, an ever-present flame that no amount of darkness could extinguish.
XXXShe supposed even Nathaniel might be considered more approachable, if only because he welcomed many into his bed. At least his sexual partners did not wonder if he would butcher them in the middle of an encounter, or perhaps they did, and that was part of his allure.
XXXHis sister, whilst possessing a malevolent streak, had a natural charm that drew people like moths to a flame. Fools, Synthia thought, but she thought that of everyone.
XXXAnd sweet, shy Leonard. Synthia could not name anyone who did not find the boy adorable. Even if he did remind her of a toddler - helpless and slippery - albeit one that looked less like a root vegetable. He was charming, she supposed. He brought her coffee.
XXXHis sister was less naive, but no less charming. She'd seen the eyes that followed Spencer where she went, hungry and desperate. Even those who did not desire women desired to be her. She had a way of speaking to anyone and everyone. A natural charisma that pulsed and hummed with every breath and word and gaze, that only robots were immune to.
XXXEven Meilani had her own charm. An quirkiness to her that made people want to know more. Synthia supposed she did not see it because she saw humanity as a singular whole. Meilani's optimism drew people. She tugged at heartstrings. No wonder, Synthia thought, for she had no heart that could be moved.
XXXAnd Darren who lived like a flower that did not seek attention or approval, but merely bloomed, possessed more patience than Synthia had believed possible. In the rare epochs when he shivered and exploded, he somehow drew together again. He was too unassuming to inspire fear. Not yet.
XXXSimilarly, Evonne's quiet warmth pulsed like the first rays of dawn, a kaleidoscope of lavender and amber hues that reverberated with her every word. Even her shields could not keep affection away.
XXXGalen, meanwhile, did not even require an explanation. Synthia imagined she was the only person he did not quite get along with. He'd been magnetic when they were children, and he was magnetic now. Did he sense the admiration that crawled behind him? The souls that would do anything for a mere brush of acknowledgement?
XXXEven his twin had no shortage of admirers. His loyalty burned like a supernova, brilliant, wild and roaring. She supposed she was the only one blind to it, the only one who saw him for a dying star, who prodded and dissected at everything that was lovely until she could see nothing but rock and gravel. Others looked at Reed and saw a star. She saw a sight that was too little, too late, because the star had already been vanquished, their eyes seeing only the remnants of a constellation that had long collapsed.
XXXWhilst she felt no quick desire to meet Landon, she saw that others did. Pretty words flowed from him like fresh water from a mountain, even his sarcasm had an ethereal magnetism to it. He filled the room, and walked like a lord through his kingdom.
XXXSynthia could even see Gisele's charm, objectively speaking. Her strength was a tangible thing, a moon cratered with imperfections, but beautiful in its way.
XXXHuman. They were all so hopelessly, wonderfully human.
XXXThe thought sat like a piece of broken code in her chest, jarring and disrupting every step and thought. Come back, it said. Come back and simmer and rage and burn with everything you are not.
XXXIt was the medication, she told herself. The toxic static that hummed in her veins from Chris' touch. It was driving her mad. Temporarily.
XXXThe earth was littered with the corpses of civilisations who believed they were eternal.
XXXShe would not become one of them.
XXXShe would not believe in something that could never be.
      XXXLove was a weakness.
      XXXFriends were a weakness.
      XXXDistracting. They were all distracting.
XXXBut what was her probability of death?
XXXHow many things had been said to last? How many of them had collapsed?
XXXHow many units of pain did ostracism invoke? How many were self-inflicted?
XXXHow did machines pretend to be human?
XXXHow fast did she need to run, to run from the end to the start again?

XXXAnd why did she always, always ask questions she already knew the answer to?

XXX"I brought some light reading," she told Chris by way of greeting as she dropped a 313 page manual on electrical stimulation and its effects on technology in his hands. "Except a quiz later this week.
XXX"Landon informed me of the sizeable explosion you impelled," she said. "Do consider the full-body rubber suit I suggested." Said suit was horrendously ugly, a neon yellow monstrosity that made any who wore it look like Big Bird from Sesame Street, or a discoloured capsicum. She took a step forward in search of Chris' mangled phone - she could save some spare parts - but a bout of nausea attacked her in that moment. She tipped forward. Blair and Chris were closest to her, but she shifted in the last moment and caught the edge of a table. She swallowed.
XXX"The floor is slippery," she excused. "Can't imagine why," she said dryly, lips curling in disgust.
XXXHer eyes caught that of another student's. He froze under her emerald stare.
XXX"Uh... Did you..." he murmured. "Can I..."
XXXSynthia nodded at the plastic cup he held in his hand. He followed her gaze, and blinked.
XXX"Uh," he started. "This is a Jaegarbomb."
      XXXSynthia merely raised her brow.
XXX"Like, vodka. And Red Bull," he clarified, furrowing his brows in confusion.
XXX"Also known as a Turbojäger or Fliegender Hirsch. Yes, I am aware," she deadpanned.
      XXX"Are you-"
XXXSynthia grabbed the cup from his hand, and devoured it all. She scowled at the empty cup, though from disgust at the taste, its emptiness, or because that was her face, one could not be too sure.
XXXThe boy stared at her, a look of shock and something akin to admiration in her gaze. He did not move.
XXX"You are dismissed," Synthia said, before mulling over a thought. She returned his cup to him. "Unless you wish to retrieve another."
XXX"Wow, I mean, yeah. Yeah, sure, Ro- Shit, I mean, Miss Faye," he said.
      XXX"You may call me Synthia."
      XXXHis eyes widened.
XXX"Um, yeah, sure, M- Synthia," he corrected slowly, as if the name were a foreign language he could not decipher. Synthia lifted a brow as he merely stood and gawked. She jerked her head in dismissal, and he retreated hastily.
XXXSynthia turned and snatched the drink of the nearest person to her as she was waiting, and drank that too. Synthia, who insisted fermented yeast was the concoction of the devil, sent to decimate brain cells and liver function, who condemned any who so much as partook in a sip of a celebratory drink. She gave Landon an expressionless stare over the rim of her cup, as if asking, who's the vacuum now?
XXXThe boy raced back with not one drink but two. Synthia took both, and downed them too.

How To Be A Heartbreaker

Spencer rolled her eyes when she came back with a shot of whiskey to find Nathaniel hanging around Landon like a horny puppy. A horny puppy with rabies. The thought made Spencer laugh a little when she saw Annabeth walk by after making a comment towards her evil brother. Boy did she like keeping Nathaniel on a tight leash. Kinky... Spencer watched her pass by and could help but make a comment towards her. "You seem tense, Beth. Want me to help loosen you up?" Spencer laughed went towards the two best friends that were able to enjoy the great honor of being in bed with her.

Spencer took her shot and set the glass down beside them. "I dare say... Have you switched teams finally, Land?" She put and arm around Nathaniel and grinned. "Come to the dark side, Land... We have awesome parties and Ellen." She started laughing and then Chris went over to them to tell Landon about how he broke yet another phone. "I'll pray for you." She watched him walk away and then noticed the two new guests. One was Synthia which was a bit surprising and the other was a red headed girl. Spencer couldn't quite remember her name. She just knew that she was the only girl other than Spencer that Leo wasn't a babbling idiot around.

"Now if you'll excuse me..." Spencer took her arm off of Nathaniel and made a mental note to disinfect it later. "The Big Bad Wolf is gonna go have some fun with Little Red Riding Hood." She smirked and left them. Spencer stopped at the drink table and poured two cups of Guinness before turning around and walking straight towards the red headed girl. "Hey there lil red..." She smirked and lifted one of the ups towards her. "Drink?" She winked at her and had a sip of her own.

"You're Leo's friend..." Spencer looked her over for a moment. "That little runt didn't tell me you were hot." Spencer met her eyes again and smirked before put her cup down and extending her hand towards her. "I'm Spencer... You're knight in shinning sarcasm and booze." She grinned and laughed a bit.

XXXDid he expect her to rejoice?
XXX"I just fried the guts of it," Chris corrected, as if she should be proud.
XXX"Well done." Synthia followed the rim of her cup with an elegant finger. "Your logic explains very well your relationship with women. I suppose it is fine to decimate their hearts, so long as their exterior remains intact?" she posed rhetorically.
XXXChris took the cups from her hands, frowning at them as if they were dead rodents. She supposed everything she touched became something of the sort. He placed the phone in her grasp instead. It was dead. She felt its absence like a thread stitched through every fibre of her being. How funny, she thought, that she could understand every chip, wire and increment of this inanimate thing when she'd spent mere seconds with it, but people like Galen and Reed, whom she'd known for most of her life, made little sense to her.
XXXIt was funny, she told herself. A morbid joke etched by a cruel slight of fate.
XXXShe allowed a small smile at his reference to the rubber suit as a "human-sized condom." It was rather humorous. She made a note to remember it.
XXX"Are you ok? Is something wrong?" he prodded. "Maybe you should slow down?"
XXXBut she was not listening to him. Her eyes were drawn to something else. Someone else. She could not see Blair's expression. Only her shock of red curls as they tumbled over her shoulders. Strands of copper and gold wove through them. Synthia had never noticed. Her eyes followed every wave, until they drifted lower.
      XXXShe had nice legs.
XXXSynthia had never noticed Blair had nice legs.
XXXShe supposed she'd never seen legs as anything but two pillars of muscle and bone that held torsos upright.
XXXBut Blair's feet were pointed towards another pair of legs. Bronzed and lean, weaving towards a familiar silhouette. She recognised that smirk on Spencer's face. She'd seen it often enough when her roommate was turned to Landon. It was sometimes directed towards her. How curious, she thought. How curious indeed.
XXXA shard of envy caught the side of her chest, followed quickly by the low pulse of rage. Mine, she thought. Mine.
XXXSynthia clenched her teeth, jaw tensing as she stared at the two girls. Her thoughts were muddy. Slow. And yet clearer than they'd ever been. She panned her gaze around the room, staring at each individual in turn. For once she saw them as people, instead of merely not-machines.
XXX"Hey what's up? It's me Synth, I know you. You don't drink because you don't like all the complications it brings. So what's going on?" She returned her sea-green gaze to the man that stood before her. When had he departed from merely being a boy? Perhaps he'd never been a boy. Synthia had always been preoccupied with the power that roiled inside him to notice his soul. Did humans have souls? She shut her eyes. No more questions. She did not want to think tonight. She did not wish for the title of genius or robot or other. Not tonight. "You know you can talk to me, you're my best friend after all. And I like to think I'm yours."
XXX"Is that all I am to you, Christopher?" she murmured, taking a step forward, until he could feel the perpetual heat that radiated from his body. "A friend?"
XXXShe placed a hand on his chest.
XXXIt was hard. His heart hammered underneath.
XXXShe searched his face, his eyes, his nose - slightly crooked but somehow, with character, reminding her he'd been in fights, walked through battles and lived. He was handsome. She remembered that was what she'd thought, when she'd first seen him by the ATM.
XXX"That's not how you break into one," she'd said. Not because she'd cared, but because he'd been pretty. Shiny. Aesthetically pleasing. And she supposed she was human after all, if she cared at all about such things. But she'd been younger then, less robotic, more human. She stopped seeing beauty a long time ago. Christopher had since become to her, only mildly better than a uniquely powerful generator.
XXXWas this what it was to be inebriated?
XXXDid alcohol make one see lovely things? Did it make them more human? She ran a tongue over her lips, tasting the remnants of her drink.
XXXAh, she smiled. It had not been simply "vodka and Red Bull."
XXXSomehow she found that she didn't mind.
XXX"Did you know," she began. "You feel like a machine?"
XXXShe trailed her fingers over the veins that pulsed at his neck, a featherlight touch, cold against the heat of his body. She felt the static that radiated from him, a maze of incandescent hues that she saw like a tattoo woven through his body. She found feel it throb. It would be easy to take it, she thought.
XXX"Odd, isn't it?" she mused. "To be neither man nor machine, but a strange hybrid of the two?" She lifted her gaze to meet his, her pupils dilating to swallow the pale jade of her irises.
XXX"Don't say anything," she whispered quickly. "You don't have to. I don't want you to." Her hand drifted along his arm, past his elbow, his forearm, until her fingers brushed his. She paused, before entwining their hands, and lifting it between them. She moved their fingers, her eyes following their every movement, as if seeing them for the first time.
XXX"When I'm starved for company, it's their bodies I miss," she said quietly, almost to herself. "The arch of a wrist as they bring cups to their lips; the path of a jaw when they turn their heads." She turned her head to pin him with her stare. "Don't move, I think." She brought her arms around him, crossing them behind his neck, tugging him down. "Stay like that. Let me have that."
      XXXAnd she kissed him.
XXXHis lips were soft, impossibly soft when juxtaposed with the rest of him. She moulded her mouth against his, tilting her head as she pressed herself firmer against him. Her hand roved over his chest and she bunched his shirt in her fist, pulling him closer still. She barely noticed the sweep of her blonde hair against her lower back or the press of a surface as she took a step backwards. She felt only him, warm and hard and electrifying.
      XXXThere it was.
XXXThe tug of energy that pulsed at his core and pushed against his skin, eager to leap between the space that separated them. It recognised her for what she was.
      XXXNeither man nor machine.
XXXShe welcomed it, devoured it. It poured from him to her, a cascade of electricity that filled her with an impenetrable light. It was addictive, and Synthia parted her lips to breathe it in. She felt the sweep of his tongue, and nudged it with her own.
      XXXOverhead, the lights flickered.
      XXXAlive. She was alive.
XXXAnd she felt as if she might live for ever.
XXXThe earth is littered with the corpses of civilisations who believed they were eternal.
XXXThe thought sliced through her and she jerked back, tearing herself away from Chris. She stared at him, wide-eyed, her hair wild and dishevelled. The redness of her lips evidence of what had transpired.

Old Time Rock and Roll

Per usual Beth had a quick rebuttal for his own sarcasm, "Haven't you heard? Nathaniel likes things kinky. A little helpful tip for you later." People always seemed to forget how quick Landon was on his feet when it came to responding with his signature witty banter. After all that's what made him him, and how people could rarely take him seriously. "Oh! So that explains why he has these plans for screwing your dead corpse. Necrophilia. If that isn't kinky then what is? Am I right?" He raised his brows to her before turning his gaze back to the present crowd as Spencer took way too much enjoyment at his flirtations towards Nathaniel. "I dare say... Have you switched teams finally, Land? Come to the dark side, Land... We have awesome parties and Ellen." The Nate added, "This is true." Landon shifted to face Spencer and Nathaniel that almost looked amiable for a moment, as he held out his hands, palms up at the ceiling. "Bad choice of analogy... You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it." He said it in his best Bane voice, while a slight surge emanated from his palms causing the lights to flicker and dim slightly as he grinned.

Landon couldn't help but shift his gaze between his 3 very different friends. "Why was I the one graced with 3 friends that don't particularly get along...?" He scratched his head before shrugging his shoulders. He just brings out the best in everyone, obviously. But the simple fact that Chris came over to rant about his damn phone issues then walked off before he really listened to anything Landon had to say made him just stand there aw struck for a moment. "Am I invisible? Like the fuck?" He sighed, throwing his hands in the air as he just gave up on caring.

Apparently Spencer quickly grew bored of their presence once Blair walked in, "Now if you'll excuse me... The Big Bad Wolf is gonna go have some fun with Little Red Riding Hood." "I'm pretty sure that's hair not a hood..." He said in a matter of fact manner. Nate also feeling like putting in his witty 2 sense, "I don't now about bad... Big maybe..." Landon snorted slightly as he tried to hold back his laugh, "Man one day she's gonna kick your ass... And I'm not going to do a single thing to stop it." Once Spencer was gone and already flirting with Blair, Nate asked, "How does she do it?" Landon faked to seem emotional, pretending to wipe away a tear as he spoke, "They grow up so fast. Be free little grasshopper... Be free!" He started laughing, patting Nate on the shoulder. "Dude... Between the 3 of us we get more ass than everyone else in the school combined. We just all have our own... Techniques. Spence and I, well we flirt and charm our way into chick's pants... You? Well you just act all dickish and bruting. Some people are into that whole bad boy thing." Landon then cupped his hands together, batting his eyelashes, "I know I enjoy the rugged exterior."

Landon's attention quickly shifted towards Spencer who was obviously getting somewhere with Blair. He couldn't help but wonder what pick up line she used this time. They're pretty corny but with the right person it can actually be a humorous conversation starter. But as he observed he couldn't help but notice a tipsy Synth in the background looking like she was getting a little jealous. It obviously couldn't be because of Spencer because she comes on so hard to Synth that she could have Spence whenever she wanted. So it had to be Blair. Interesting. He couldn't help but grin out amusement when Synth grabbed Chris by the shirt and planted one on him. Oh yeah, she was DEFINITELY jealous. Land crossed his arms over his chest, leaning his head over towards Nathaniel, "I didn't realize Blair was going to be such a hot ticket... Glad I tapped that when I had the chance." He made a grunting noise before licking his lips, "And that cherry was delicious!"

How To Be A Heartbreaker

Spencer's eyes drifted down to Blair's soft and almost lips. She watched her lick away to bit of Guinness that managed to splash onto her lips and Spencer's own lips began to curl upwards. Spencer didn't even realize how close she was standing until Blair spoke up. "Flattered," She let out a soft giggle that made Spencer's curled lips turn into a full smile. "Blair, your damsel that was actually in need of this booze and is very thankful for it." Her accent only made Spencer smile even more. Scottish. Cute...

Spencer took a step backwards in order to bow. She stayed in this position and looked up at Blair with a huge grin spread across her face. "It was an honor being able to assist you, fair maiden." She took hold of Blair's free hand and kissed the back of it. "And an even greater honor to have met someone who couldn't be any more pleasing to the eye than you, Blair." Spencer pulled off the stereotypically British accent even though it was no where close to how Spencer normally spoke. Her accent was subtle but obvious that she was from Birmingham. She oddly used American phrases more often than British one's since she spent more time in the states than in her home country.

Spencer stood up straight again and noticed the slight two inch difference between the two of them. Spencer liked this. She always preferred being the taller one with women. It was a weird dominance thing for her. Being taller somehow made her feel more powerful and in charge even though a girl that Spencer actually cared for(if there were any)... Could make her do anything they pleased.

"So Blair..." Spencer began. What brings you here? Were you hoping to catch sight of my cute face?" She laughed but was then distracted but the faint flickering of lights. She looked around the room knowing there was only one super kid who could have done this... Chris. Her eyes scanned the crowd of bodies until she saw Chris... With Synthia...

Something flared up inside Spencer and she knew what it was right away and wasn't afraid to admit it. Spencer was jealous. Jealous of the fact that no matter how hard she tried, she got no where with Synthia and somehow Chris managed to get more action than her by simply standing there like a big idiotic jock. Spencer was pissed but she didn't show it. Instead, she turned around and grabbed Blair and pulled her close as she caressed both sides of her jaw with her palms.

"Fuck it." Was all Spencer said before she leaned in and kissed Blair softly and then more intensely as she got lost deeper and deeper within that moment. Spencer's hand's moved down her neck, chest, and stomach until they made their way around to the small of her back and finally rested at her hips. Spencer held her there with her and didn't want to let Blair leave. Not until Spencer wanted her to.

Blair's lips curled up into a smile at Spencer's actions. "It was an honor being able to assist you, fair maiden." The blonde was being such a gentle-lady that Blair couldn't help but to blush a little when Spencer's lips touched the back of hand. "And an even greater honor to have met someone who couldn't be any more pleasing to the eye than you, Blair." That accent only made Blair's smile widen, she could tell that it was a bit heavier than someone who came from London and she liked that. "As you," she responded as she held the rim of the cup up to her lips, smiling. When Spencer stood back up Blair had to look up just a bit in order to meet her eyes. She didn't mind really and actually quite favored it.

"So Blair..." quickly Blair took this moment to finish off the liquid that was left in her cup before Spencer continued. "What brings you here? Were you hoping to catch sight of my cute face?" Her brow rose in amusement as her lips parted to speak. "Actual-" Blair didn't get to finish her sentence because the flickering lights distracted her. When she looked back at Spencer though she couldn't help but to follow her eyes to Synth snogging Chris. Wait, what? Her tinted red lips parted slightly as a small gasp escaped her mouth and her eyes widened. Blair couldn't believe what she was seeing. Was this the reason why she was acting odd earlier?

Her jaw clenched as she felt a sharp pang in her chest washed over by a wave of jealousy. Honestly Blair didn't think of herself as the jealous type but something was triggered inside her but her face only showed shock. Before Blair could properly respond though she felt herself being pulled and when she looked her face was in between Spencer's hands. By this point all sound around Blair had disappeared for her and she only saw Spencer's lips move slightly before they were pressed against hers gently then more and more hungrily. In that moment her heart and mind was racing, she was struggling to process what was going on but her body instinctively relaxed at the warm touch. Blair could feel Spencer's hand move freely all the way down to her hips where she gripped softly. For a second Blair had kissed back but once her brain finally caught up, the hand that rested upon the blondes chest had applied force, enough to push herself away from her but since her emotions were taking over Blair had to be careful not to accidentally use her powers on her.

She swallowed a painful lump in her throat while her ears twitched at the sound of Landon's voice. She heard what he said and her eyes flickered dangerously towards him before she caught herself. Tears stung at her eyes and she averted her gaze towards the floor before dropping her cup and apologizing quickly to Spencer. She didn't even take one look towards Synth or Chris before she was out the door. Her hands trembled, her breath quickened and she could feel her lungs slowly closing. She was having an asthma attack. Plus the emotions of anger, embarrassment, jealousy and just pain was quickly taking over her. She pushed and shoved against people just to make her way through all while her head began to ache. Blair began to stumble her way around as she began taking deep breaths, the ground beneath her softly rumbling until it got stronger and stronger but luckily by this point she was right at her door.

Once she was inside her room she quickly dragged herself to her room and frantically searched for her pump through the scatter mess of papers on her desk. Fear had now entered the ring with all her other emotions because if she couldn't get her breathing and powers under control then she could face having another devastating accident. Her slender fingers grasped the pump as she took three frantic deep breaths into the device. At the same time her trembling hand slowly closed tightly and the more her hand came closer to a fist the less one could feel the ground rumbling until it had completely stopped. The pain though, the pain that came with stopping such an unexpected loss of her powers caused instant bruises to mark up her right hand. Her pale skin now painted purple, red and blue, halfway up her forearm.

Was her feelings for Synth really this strong that she acted out like this? With her breathing stable but shaky the red-head slowly and weakly climbed onto her bed. She sat with her back against the wall and pulled her knees up to her chest while her forehead rested on them. Through everything that just occured Blair hadn't noticed that she had been crying, real tears actually running down her cheeks from both types of pain, the physical and emotional. She felt like such a, what did Synth call it, a fool. She sat there while the vibrations in the air blared in her ears and echoed in her head. They wouldn't stop unless she calmed down and boy was she trying but it just wasn't going to happen right now so she had to wait it out. On the other hand she felt some comfort in the pain and not being able to hear anything around her other than the vibrations.

Chris arched a slight eyebrow when she moved closer to him. "I....what?" He said in confusion at her questions about their relationship. His heart began to race as she touched his chest. He took a big gulp, remaining completely frozen as she stared at him, licking her lips. "I....uh....what?" He merely responded to her stating that he felt like a machine. He didn't quite understand what she meant by that. He didn't understand what the hell was going on either. Was this drunk Synth? Somehow he expected her to be a more angry drunk than.....this. It completely threw him for a loop.

As she trailed her fingers on his neck his cheeks began to turn slightly red. He was completely lost at this point. Even more so when she began talking about machine hybrids. "I-" But before he could finish his sentence she interrupted him. He watched her carefully as she moved her hand down his arm, and brought up their joined hands between them. He wasn't sure what was going to happen next. The way she looked at him, a part of him felt like she was going to eat him. The way she looked at him, it felt like a predator eyeing their prey, a lioness about to pounce on a helpless gazelle.

And then she did it. She wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders, and neck. She brought him down closer, and planted a kiss on his lips. 'It's just the alcohol, it's just the alcohol' He repeated in his mind. At first his eyes widened, but after a moment he closed them, deciding to enjoy the moment rather than question it. He could feel the electricity inside him coming up to the surface. He didn't have to worry about it with Synth. He didn't have to worry about hurting her. So he just let it go. The energy jumped between his body and hers, and around it went between the two, going back and forth between him and her.

It felt amazing. The energy he got from her was pure pleasure. He wanted to remain like this forever. But then she pulled away from him. He hadn't even noticed the lights were flickering until she pulled away from him. He stared into her usually jaded, and cynical eyes, and a smile began to crack in the corner of his mouth. "You know....you look different to me as well." He stated in that moment she was silent. "You're bio-electrical field that is. It's bright. It looks like a sun to me. I can always tell when it's you."

He placed his index finger, and thumb on her chin, and lifted her head up slightly. He didn't care about all the looks from everyone. He didn't care about the jealous glares from Spencer. He didn't care that Blair rushed out of the room. He just didn't care. The only thing he could see was the bright sun in front of him. And he was ok with that. "Screw it." He muttered to himself. He didn't want to think it was the alcohol that made her act this way. He didn't care. His feelings for her, they were real. Maybe hers were too. Maybe they weren't. He didn't care anymore.

Chris grabbed the nearest cups of alcohol, and began downing them like it was the end of the world. After about four or five cups, he lost track of them he returned to Synth. Now if this was just some drunken mistake, it would be their drunken mistake. He put his hand to the back of her head, and pulled her in closer to his face. He wrapped his other arm around her waist, and smiled.

"Despite what others say, despite what you think, you've always been human to me Synth." He stated. "Stolen kisses are always the sweetest." He quoted. He figured she'd already know, or else she'd have to look up who he quoted. But he wasn't going to tell. He then leaned in closer, and pressed his lips against hers much more passionately now. He pulled away slightly tugging at her bottom lips before he dove right back in. He pulled her waist closer to his, and ran his other hand up, and down her leg.

His hand hovered above the back of her head, sparks began jumping from his hand to her body. He focused the sparks on the pleasure center of her brain. He wasn't sure if because of her powers she would even feel it. But hey, it was worth a try at least. After a couple minutes that felt like an eternity he finally pulled away from her. He breathed heavily, trying to catch his breath. "So.....where do we go from here?" He asked as he rested his forehead against hers.
