Terribly annoying are flies who thinks themselves as superior. Aren't they bothersome? Without thinking and even speculating, those who are meant to be would never divest themselves, but kept inside for only those who deserved to know. Apart from that undeniable fact, nothing is more further away from the truth than the words been said; big talk only. Such an eyesore.

Even though Xing appeared to be quite the slim guy with a slight disturbing sight, which is significant for someone who is physically weak, his appearance was never something which talked for and about him. He out lots of effort to make anyone not noticing his actually trained body and his developed muscles just in the right places. He is, no doubt, a very charismatic man if you look closer into his crimson eyes, which would drawn most every girl into its captive, but that was impossible having him to be so tall. Yeah, if we're at it, what's up with his eyes? Such colours were rare, even for a magician of pureblood partners. A rarity of a rarity, that even though it appeared frightening, his unusual long eyelashes and heavy lidded eyes made them look especially sexy. That being said, his white skin which more reminded of a dead person than a living being, made his first impressions always unpleasant. However, he managed to make everyone not being uncomfortable with his way showing manners, and his graceful steps.
His dark hair colour matched with his preferred black clothing, which usually covered as much skin as possible. Such long robes until chemises, mostly everything though fits him. But he still preferred long clothes because of his dislike to the cold, and his love for the dark.
Like his mother used to say, if he would have born as a girl, he would probably was one very rare beauty - fit for the title of snow white. Well, she did not know until then, that such beauty always had a hidden thorn.

"Hah! Catch me if you can!" A loud and hyper voice yelled as it moved throughout the Great Hall, echoing as the whole room silenced to see what idiot was yelling to early in the morning. Of course the voice would belong to no one other than Fang Chung, belonging to the house of Gryffindor and being in her 4th year of attending Hogwarts. Perhaps this was why she was such a trouble maker.

But the real question was, where exactly was she? Her voice kept on laughing, idiotically, as she seemed to have travelled around each and every House table. Suddenly one of the student toppled over after giving out a yelp, "Ack, sorry!" Her voice shrunk backwards a little.

Just like any other person would suspect, Fang was using the Invisibility Charm again to cause trouble and havoc. After bumping into the student, she seemed to have lost focus and the spell wore off, revealing her, who was still in her bedtime clothes with messy hair and tired eyes, but a stupid grin on her face as she ran off, shouting and screaming, dodging one of the professor's grips as she continued her dash.

It was like a cat chasing a mouse; pointless. Of course Fang wouldn't be caught. The professor was far too slow to get her, especially if she was rushing throughout the hall with that unlimited amount of energy she seemed to have, "Get back here, Chun! You aren't allowed to be running around so early in that clothing! Get changed! And stop shouting!" The professor screamed out at her with the little breath he had after sprinting so far just to attempt to catch her.

Fang stopped at the end of the Gryffindor House table and saying with a tilt of her head, "And exactly why should I do that? These are comfortable! Much more comfortable than those robes!"

She had hardly done anything wrong, well, except for screaming, and only listed out her opinion. But this seemed to have only annoyed the professor even more, seeing how he frowned and began to chase after her again as she started she chase once more, "Chun!" He shouted with anger while she only giggled childishly and began to run around the Great Hall even more, and even faster, grabbing food off every and any table that she found to look appetizing. If someone was going to run so early in the morning, why not grab a snack while at it?

"Tired... Work... Work... Oh what fun." Petra murmured as she sat herself outside in the school's courtyard, placing herself on one of the benches. Lucky for her school hadn't just started yet, so she had no need to rush to her classroom. And that meant one thing; she could drink.

The woman would take any opportunity given to her where she could sneak in a drink of wine, beer, anything that had to do with alcohol. Yeah, perhaps she wasn't the best role model, but she never encouraged others to drink and was a very trusty person when she would be needed in any serious situation. But in the mean time, she's really just any childish woman who has a drinking problem.

With a great sigh, Petra placed the small and thin textbook for Defense Against the Dark Arts on top of her face, murmuring various complaints about her job. Well, of course Petra loved her job and students, but perhaps sometimes she got a little too stressed out at times, "Oh, perhaps I should just quit one day. I'm too old to do things like this." She whined as she leaned her head backwards.

Petra was still young actually, but laziness was one of her greatest flaws. She didn't want to do certain things, and when she had to do something she didn't want to do, of course she'd get a little out of hand.

While she had the textbook in her left hand which was keeping the textbook over her face, covering up the sun that was already so bright, despite it being early morning, in her right hand was a can of beer that she had intended to drink that morning if it weren't for her having to grade a bundle of tests that she forgot to take care of the day before. It wasn't even open, surprisingly, and honestly, in the condition she was in, it really did look like she needed a drink.

"Hey, new kid, you shouldn't be sleeping here." Ayumu heard a voice say as he slowly awoke from his deep sleep, which was literally around a few hours. He forgot one of his textbooks in his Potion's class and was going to get it the evening before, but since Ayu was still new to Hogwarts and only had a month of two of experience with everything, he still couldn't get a grip onto the whole place; especially the Grand Staircase.

It kept on moving and Ayu had trouble getting places, even back to his own Common Room, so when he tried to go back to the Potion's class to get his book, he got incredibly lost on the staircase. He didn't even remember where the classroom was in the first place. Then when he tried to get back to his Common Room, he couldn't. He was completely lost, and since Ayu wanted to be polite, he didn't wake any of the moving paintings and instead just fell asleep on one of the staircases.

"Ah, sorry." Ayu yawned tiredly as he simply opened one eye to see one of the older students sigh and walk past him along with a few others. What time did he fall asleep? How many hours was he asleep? Actually, what was the time, actually? After gathering up enough energy to do such, Ayu raised himself from his sluggish and laid down position until he was sitting upright. He then turned to one of the paintings and asked, "Um... excuse me, sir, do you know the time?"

The painting looked at him oddly but only shook his head and answered, "Afraid not, my boy! But I'm certain that its time for you to get going to your classes! School may start sooner than you think!"

"Oh, okay. Thanks." Ayu managed a tired and weary smile as he got up, a pinkish white cat, his own, jumping off his chest as he did so since it seemed to have slept there the whole night with him. When he got to a standing position, after a few minutes of adjusting to waking up on a cold and hard staircase, he stretched and turned to look down at the cat, "Is it really time to head to class, Emi?"

His sister, who was transfigured into a cat for the rest of her life, meowed at him back, being unable to speak with that odd expression on her face. Ayu sighed as he brought his hand to rub the back of his neck as he said anxiously, "Where's Alex and Vincent? I think I may need their help now." He even sighed again once the staircase began to move, as it always did. He was most definitely lost in the staircase maze.

The blonde haired boy, who was lying out on the Quidditch field, was still trying to figure out how his new broom worked. Jared just got a new one because he had accidentally tripped and fallen on his first broom. He went through the worst state of depression possible, kind of, but he got over it, strangely, and recovered quickly as he had gotten a new one this year.

He wasn't too fond of the new broom he bought. It costed him quite a bit, is one thing, and then it looked far to modern, having golden lining and beautiful set twigs at the end of the broom. But Jared was a fan of the older brooms, just as he was a fan of the older items and things of the sort, "Oh well." He gave a shrug and decided to look at its better qualities in the mean time, since Jared was, after all, a very optimistic young man and had to look at the better side of things before the worse.

"Ack, but... but..." He started, speaking to himself as he usually, as it was a hobby of his ever since a child, "But what if I mess up? I could seriously hurt somebody!" Jared let his head rest on the palm of his head as he tapped his finger on his cheek, trying to think. In the end though, Jared chose the stupid decision, as he always would, "Well... I guess a little ride on it wouldn't hurt..." He grinned before taking the broom into his hand and mounting it carefully. His robe was stuck to the end, which he quickly moved since he didn't want his new robe to get ruined also.

A moment later, one of the janitors saw him about to ride his broom into the air and called him out on it, spitting all over the ground as he hobbled over to him, "Oy! Kid! you aren't suppose' to beh doin' that right now! Geh off! Shoo!" He shouted as Jared backed up a bit.

Jared was a bit terrified of adults, and the janitor was one of the older men who should have been retired at his age. He felt goosebumps as he got off his broom, raising his hands into the air as if a police were arresting him and shouting, "I-I'm sorry sir! I didn't mean to! I swear! I-I didn't know!"

"Yeh sure abou' that?" The janitor walked even close to the blonde haired boy until there was hardly any space between the two. Jared even held his breath, "How do I know you ain't about to go flyin' around tryin' to make trouble for Hogwarts, eh? I should report you, shouldn't I? Yeh, I should." He agreed with himself as Jared tried to defend his intentions.

"Wait! I just wanted to try out my new broom! Sir! Please!" Jared began to beg. It was only his second year in Hogwarts school, and yet he was already getting into so much trouble.

↷ Xing Hei

It was early in the morning, but Xing was already up to his feet, refreshing himself on one side with the cold water and on the other side his memories, while standing in front of the mirror without even glancing up to it, so engrossed was he into the book he currently read. It was about potions - obviously - his passion. Well, his passion that he showed everyone, a fake impression of his also acted character in front of the crowd. He might smile so charmantly, but if you look closely, those smiles never reached his eyes. His eyes which turn anyone deeply to the cruelty of cold winter days, where only fear followed the lonely man. He had been up for about two hours now but until now, he did not bother to step outside. He was sure that it would be meaningless because the breakfast is probably not going to be ready yet. Truly, he hated mornings, he hated himself due to his restless sleep, where nightmares seem to seek him everytime. Despite that experience though, he would have never seen to be in any way disturbed by that. The fake smile always rested on his face, letting everyone now he was okay. He was alright. And there is nothing for anyone to worry about.

He usually kept everything for himself, and would never trust anyone to an extent of close to irritation of anyone should bother in asking about his life which he thought of his own business, where no one had the right to interfere. Even his little half brother, who did not like him anyway. An unusual pain is piercing through his heart; always is it likewise, he hated how he felt. That strong urge to be by his brothers side, having a usual relationship with it. But of course, that woman had to destroy everything, had to destroy his own dear life. It was truthfully annoying. If Xing wouldn't have been so reserved like he was, he would probably sigh right now, complaining in silence. However, he was the type of person who holds everything in, did not dare to leek any of his sentiments out, in the fear of being heard. Of being looked through like a plain book.

Slowly stepping to his bed, he noticed that all surround him are still in middle of their dreams, far from awake. It was nothing to wonder about though, having the morning to be still early. Even so, Xing knew just too well that he already could grab something to eat below and started off the day. He was positive that he was not the only one either. With that thought, he placed back his books in their places where he put them, all in a nice order. Generally, he always was a person who disliked mess and appear to often manage his belongings well, only not to bother having an headache finding things which needs to be find. And nothing was more easy than putting them nicely right from the start - a mature thought which was another radical difference between himself and his brother.

After awhile, he'd quitted the dorms and finally after awhile walking through the hallways and greeting politely some teachers with his good student manners, he reached the great hall. A nice smell approached him at the time he opened the doors - and the familiar sight appeared in front of him, letting him having that strange feeling of coming back home. A silly feeling; with that, he dropped the subject, left it ignored and walked to the table of which he was assigned to from when he started to go to Hogwarts - a time which seem to be so long ago now, almost unreachable. The 11 years old him already figured that he would end up in Slytherin; not because of an unreasonable instinct, but the very deep insight and understanding his nature, which truthfully not anyone could do.

"Good morning, Dioda," A gentle and still foreign voice escaped his lips as he passed the white haired woman, though she seem to not noticing him. It would be too much if one say that Xing liked the girl - he probably loved her company which always brought silence and almost none disturbance, something rare he could find where everyone have the urge to talk needless things; conversations, which never contain any meaningful informations. Small talk which could just disappear. That's why he was quite disappointed not having her as a company when he took his breakfast. Despite Xing's deep indifference about his surroundings, he had felt the desire to keep a nice image of himself; and someone like that would never eat alone like a loner. Sighing in his thoughts, he went to the other Slytherin students, preparing to hear useless talk.

↷ Yean Hei

Yean was, like always, outside. It'd developed into his hobby to sneak out of the windown and climb up to the academytop, only going for the chance to be alone and stare up to the skies. Strong wind forced his natural maroon hair to dance wildly, made a mess out of them as they began to rest again, alongside the wind which slowly began to calm himself. Now, only a nice morning breeze felt curling through every part of his body, letting him slowly become in touch with the shy but gentle warmth of the morning sun. While thoroughly savouring the morning while having his eyes closed, he slowly noticed his little problem. Hunger overcame him and forced him to open his eyes, dissatisfied. Although a part of him still want to stay on his spot, he was afraid that his stomach wouldn't want to argue any further.

A bit cursing himself for not smuggling any food into the dorms, he carelessly jumped then skillfully grabbed the window frames in his fall, then with one try pulled himself back into the dorms, uncaring about the noise he'd made. Honestly, he couldn't care less - all of them had to come back to reality soon enough, so why not waking all them up now? While played with the thought of doing a little prank, he changed his clothes into the hateful robes and obediently closed the door with little noise as possible. There is, surprisingly, still manners in his rough and grumpy skin.

Yean felt nothing but tiredness going to this academy - why was he here again? He remembered that his dad told him to, saying that he was also here although Yean was sure that he made it clear that he wanted to do something else. Something, which had nothing to do with the world of magicians. But that did not mean he was not interested in that, although he had to admit he was a bit too naive as he was still in his first years. Still having the thought that it would be something exciting; and nothing as bothersome and sometimes difficult to understand as now. He was told to read books with such details and so many complicated formular that his head might just explode on the spot. Well, he was never the type of person who would be fitting in learning things which he is not interested in - truthfully he was not dumb. He was only too lazy for some things which did not even picked his attention. That's why up until now he still preferred the world without magic, the world where his physical abilities had a better use than here.

Then he remembered how they confiscated his skateboard, and his mood sinked again, made him even more looked like a delinquent. Unlike his brother, he couldn't care less about the impression he might have given other people - he was him and that simple reason was probably why he got himself end up in Gryffindor. Well, that did not mean he was unsocial in anyway though; in fact, he was known to talk many things which half of it was probably garbage. The complete opposite of his half brother after all - a fact he just wanted to forget. He was sick of always being compared to his half- brother. There is nothing about him that Yean did not hate - he would never forgive him and that will be it between them.

He entered the great hall, noticing quite many students present - a nice surprise. Yean always hated silence so he warmly greeted so many company. Ignoring the presence of Xing, he stepped with an unusual rushed pace to the Gryffindor table. To be honest, he was glad that he was not in the same house as his brother. It would just make his stay in Hogwards like hell, uncomfortable and even more unenjoyable than how things already are. Throwing that disturbing thought, he spotted Lilyanna, an odd girl in her seventh year, who still behaved like a curious child. Yean could never hate someone like that though; and in general, he could never hate a girl - or a somekind woman in her case. She attracted him somehow and made his curiosity also arise and her company was indeed pleasant in an amusing way. "Mornin' Rose, pretty early today. What do you recommend?," He asked, a question that he often posed. He'd liked the way she express herself for quite long so it started to become a somekind of habit.

Claire had finished breakfast, although she still had some of her tea left, when she saw Xing Hei come into the hall. A fellow fifth year student!

She couldn’t recall whether they had potions or transfiguration first up. She’d been considering searching the depths of her bag for the piece of parchment that had been handed to students on the first day of term and had outlined their class timetables. Hers was probably now it was in a sadder state than it had been over a month ago as she’d ceased caring for it once she’d fallen into her schedule. So when Xing came in she slung her bag over her shoulder, picked up her mug, and wandered over to the Slytherin table to go ask him.

She got some dirty look from some of the Slytherins as she set her mug on their table and took a seat on the wooden bench beside Xing. She, naturally, ignored these looks, having little patience for such things and never really being to really respect the habit of segregating houses. She calmly took a sip of her tea, gazing over the rim, challenging anyone to question her, and demonstrated her indifference. Then, setting the mug down again, she turned to Xing.

As usual he was not exactly smiles and sunshine, he looked tired but his expression was composed and impassive.
“Good morning, Xing,” she smiled. I hope you slept well, she wanted to say. But it looked like he hadn’t, so she bit her tongue. “So, um
” She racked her brain for something that she might say to him. “How did you go with last night’s potions homework?”

That seemed a fair enough question. She was pretty sure that Xing was good at potions, and they were both in the same year class. They’d been assigned the homework task of writing about an ingredient of choice, describing its properties, and the effects that other common ingredients and brewing procedures had on it. She’d chosen salamander blood, with its healing and rejuvenating properties, since it was an important ingredient in a strengthening solution, one of the potions on the fifth year’s curriculum. Otherwise, she usually she would have gone for some plant ingredient because of her affinity for Herbology. All this went very quickly through her mind as she waited hopefully for reply for the Slytherin boy beside her.

↷ Xing Hei

If it's not about some women, it is about bragging their wealth, trying to figure out who was the best, the richest, the most handsome, the luckiest - and whatever else there is to brag about. Xing soon adapted to that situation, where everyone tried to stand above anyone else, but refrained to do the same. He'd agree there and smile here, but there is nothing really a truth coming out of his mouth when talking to those 'brats' like he called them secretly. Well, their naive nature was easy to manipulate so he did not really case about his status in their group. Such things were a pain in the ass. Fortunately for Xing that his father once were a great magician, also there in Slytherin, and so he was easily accepted in groups, who only wanted members with high standards. 'Idiots' - if we're talking about Xing's opinion about those flies.

"Today, I will be getting the newest model! It has such a speed that no other will compare to!" He heard one bragging with such proud that'd make him puke. "It will be coming this noon, you see," Like he cared. But he smiled and congratulated which made him even higher of himself. Proud he exclaimed more or less the same, just rephrased it; trying to make everyone jealous. Honestly - Xing was sick of it; sick of those talks that won't ever find its end. Sick of this whole academy life he'd lead just a tad too long now. He was tired acting like a good student. And he wanted to raise and objection about everything that'd been bothering him up until now - tell them face to face that they are so good damn losers - because the money they all posses do not even belong to them. It was so pathetic. He was so pathetic, even intended to hear that useless jabbering.

Suddenly, the chit- chat ceased until silence was among the Slytherin, all eyes seem to be fixed on something... or more like someone. It was a Hufflepuff. A woman. And plus, she named Claire Rook. Xing sometimes had the same classes as her, so he knew. He knew what kind of a weird Hufflepuff woman she was - almost made him wonder why she ended up in that house. Xing did not like her the moment she began sweet talk, but in the other hand, he couldn't entirely hate her either - he would lack of reasons likewise. Nonetheless, that woman suddenly dared to come to the table of Slytherin, and really had the guts to sit next to him - honestly, he was confused. But only a smile was decorating his face as he responded. "Good morning, Ms. Rook," Like always, polite and never failed to express a distant. He knew that the other Slytherin students won't like him to help someone from the other house - they all were strict with those, who seem to want to betray. And additionally she was a troublemaker - not someone that should be accepted in that high class group of them. Even by knowing that, he still gave her an answer. Finding that situation a good excuse for doing what he wanted to do. Not like he is obliged and chained to be by their sides forever - those pigs. Without him, they won't ever succeed, he knew it. "How did I go, you ask? Fairly well. Is there anything which causes you problems?,"

The second he said that, he stood up, smiled to his Slytherin ‘friends’ and then announced: "Then I will be helping this young lady, and I just hope, you all will continue doing good with your studies," With other means, do not count on his help anymore. "Have a nice day failing," Those were the last words he spoke as he dragged Claire along, away from the Slytherin table. Kind of relieved he said that, he again showed a smile to her new company. "So? Where can I be any help to you?,"

Claire Rook

Claire was surprised by Xing’s sudden change as she was swept away from the Slytherin table. One moment it had been titles and formalities, “Good morning, Ms. Rook. How did I go, you ask? Fairly well. Is there anything which causes you problems?" the next he had stood and disdainfully forsaken the company of his peers to assist her. "Then I will be helping this young lady, and I just hope, you all will continue doing good with your studies. Have a nice day failing." She'd wordlessly let herself be led away.

"So? Where can I be any help to you?" he asked her with a smile.

"Oh, uh
” she stammered, silently cursing herself for her sudden speechlessness. Recovering, she continued, “Well, not with the homework. I think I did fairly well with it also. No, it’s just that class starts in a few minutes and I couldn’t for the life of me remember if we had transfiguration or potions first. We have potions together, I’m pretty sure, so I came over to ask.”

Claire quickly added, “I hope I haven’t caused you any trouble with your frien– er, housemates. I understand that it can be quite important for some wizarding families to maintain certain social connections.”

She may be just some muggle-born Hufflepuff to some people but she knew how these things worked. It had been selfish of her to have taken the opportunity to ruffle the feathers of some of the more pretentious Slytherines at Xing’s expense. Even if her initial goal had been to simply confirm what class she had.

This really was all Zachariah’s fault; the old man encouraged a particular disregard for the arrogance of some of the old wizarding families, much to the distress of his own. Although he’d admitted being no better than them when he was a young Slytherin, the marriage to his late muggle-born wife had certainly changed that.

Either way she was beginning to think it would've been best if she'd just headed to the dungeons and hoped a mad dash up to the transfiguration rooms wouldn't be necessary later. She appreciated Xing Hei's gesture but didn't want him to end up thinking she was just a nuisance.

↷ Xing Hei

She was even weirder than he thought she is. After understanding that she'd came for him only because she forgot what class she'd have first... Xing couldn't help but to find that amusing. Probably also because his relief was possesing him after that risky announcement he'd made after such a long time holding it in. She was remembering Xing of his little brother, before they'd gotten into that conflict. Like a puppy, small and always stammering. Though he knew that she didn't really have a choice after watching such a rare scene. Not like Xing cared though. Instinctively he patted the girl, trying to calm her down - somehow - like he'd always do with his little brother before. It was a conflicted smile he showed, but it didn't really matter. But then, observing her variety of exoressions, Xing chuckled, something that never happened before.

"You're weird. Coming to the Slytherin table only to ask for that simplicity of a problem, aren't you ashamed? For that, you even showed such a grumpy attitude... pretty exaggerating if you ask me. There are plenty of others who could answer your question without you getting into any unneccesary conflicts. Judging from that, you're a fairly spontaneous person, aren't you?," He would bet for it that she just picked to ask him because she saw him coming into the Great Hall without even considering that other Hufflepuff in her dormitory might know it also. Such a simpleton... probably a rarity in the academy. But suddenly his smile froze, only kept the fake within as he answered. "Oh yes, it is indeed very significant. You should ask them for forgiveness then. Although I am almost very sure that they won't keep it at that only," He shrugged, blaming everything on Claire, wanting to know her response to that matter of fact. But truly, it was something Xing should concern about - who he'd ditched the company from are some of the few who possesed a family of a very important position for the academy. However, Xing did not care. Even if that meant every family would go against him soon or later - what is with that anyway? It is not like he'd cared about his family from the first place. His current family, that is.

"That's why you have to pay for what you did," A threatening, but amused grin after minutes of letting her reaction of Xing's previous words take place, showed on his pale but almost innocent face. "You will have to act appropriately, and must bear my presence every time, and never leave my side. Easy, is it? You only have to protect me, that's all," His eyes flickered, telling the actual truth behind his words full of hidden meanings. "The first class is indeed transfiguration class. Who would have thought that this piece of information would be so expensive?," Only amusement was heard behind the words he spoke.

(OOC: I've edited this post given the new info about the location of the Transfiguration class. Sorry that the Place is the Grand Staircase.)

Xing, Claire realised, was someone who could give as good as he got, and she was over her previous hesitations the moment that first comment left his lips. She listened politely as he questioned her disposition, chastised her actions, tried to scare her, bound her to his company, and finally answered her question. For the few minutes after that first threat about payment she’d considered going for her wand, but then he’d grinned and she'd recognised that he was only messing with her. They’d left the Great Hall while he’d spoken and walked across the entrance hall; it was almost time for class after all, they’d be lucky if they weren’t late.

“Weird is nothing to be ashamed of,” she informed him with an undaunted smile as she waltzed through one of the side doors and down the corridor towards the Quad.
“As for 'spontaneous', who was it that was making declarations of broken alliances to his housemates? Maybe I should have asked another Hufflepuff, but that wouldn’t have been half as eventful as this has been. But speaking of your housemates, I shan’t be apologising to them. I have done nothing wrong except ignore their disdain. I neither need nor desire their approval. I am more than capable of handling anything they can throw my way, so much so that defending you-” she smirked, knowing that he didn’t really need her assistance in such matters, “-shouldn’t be too much of a burden, although I can’t promise I’ll act appropriately all the time. After all, it's the least I can do to thank you for reminding me what we have for class. Mister Hei, my wand is at your service.”

She dipped mockingly into a slight bow before continuing down the corridor.

Despite his somewhat aloof attitude and the fact that he obviously didn’t have a very high opinion of how she conducted herself, Xing’s company was not entirely unpleasant. He offered some amusement as it seemed he did have some sense of humour after all. It was interesting to see more that the usual façade of complete and utter reticence. She could put up with him. It wouldn’t hurt him to have a friend, and in the highly unlikely case that she actually had put him in danger, two wands were better than one.

“Come along then, I shall endeavour to protect you from anything lurking between here and the Quad.”

The grey sky had opened up and when Claire and Xing came out into one of the hallways bordering the Quad sunlight was shining into the open grass courtyard. The air was still crisp though and Claire adjusted her scarf against the cold before hopping over the sill of one of the many stone arch windows; Xing, no doubt, made a disapproving look at this unrefined behaviour and walked the rest of the length of the hall to enter the courtyard via the proper archway entry.

“I was just scouting ahead,” Claire said with a smile by way of an excuse. “All clear. No danger here, apparently. Much like most of the trip here. Although, that lost Gryffindor first year may have been some sinister suspect in disguise, so I apologise for not hexing him. But, back to the situation at hand, it even seems that you’re the only Slytherin student here so far."

The bell for class had sounded just moments ago, which meant that technically Claire and Xing were a few minutes late, but it appeared that they would not be last to a class which hadn’t quite started. Professor Gordon was sitting on one of the benches looking tired and a little frazzled with a textbook in one hand and a plastic wrapped sandwich in the other. JJ was also there with the second year Jared and another Hufflepuff boy, a first year whose name Claire hadn’t yet committed to memory.

Claire strolled over to the bench and dumbed her bag on the ground beside it. “Hiya JJ, causing trouble?” she said as her regular greeting to her friend. “Morning, Ms Gordon,” she added peering at her teacher before turning back to her housemate. “You been harassing the kitchen staff?” she teased harmlessly, indicating towards the plentiful supply of delicious-looking bacon sandwiches going around. “Oh, by the way. JJ, Mr Xing Hei. Xing, Jemima James.” She gestured rapidly between the two students as she made the introductions. “And company,” she waved vaguely at the other Hufflepuffs.

“So, what are we doing in class today and who do I get to practice on?”

“Hiya JJ, causing trouble?” Jemima looked up as she heard someone address her by one of her favourite nicknames. She smiled when she saw it was Claire. "As always." Jemima replied as usual. Even if the reply was often false, she thought it was quite clever. “You been harassing the kitchen staff?” Jemima jokingly put a hand on her heart and made an expression of shock and disbelief. "How could you think of such a thing!" Jemima chuckled. "Nah, you know they don't mind me asking for food. They do love chatting with me about New Zealand's pavlova occasionally." Jemima smirked and in her head she mischievously giggled as she brought up the pavlova with the Australian Claire. She smiled at Xing Hei as he was introduced. "Ah, I've seen you around. I've heard that your potions theories are amazing. We should work together sometime. Studying with other people is always more fun and efficient I've found." Jemima gestured to Ayumu and Jared. "Oh, this is Ayumu and Jared. They're Hufflepuffs like me and Claire." She pulled the three Hufflepuffs into a sort of mixture between a group hug and huddle. Her short arms barely reached Jared's other side, as he was on the other side of Claire. "If Hufflepuff had a chant I would get it started right now, but there's only a school chant, which is cool, but I won't." Jemima spoke of what she was thinking aloud as usual. “So, what are we doing in class today and who do I get to practice on?” Jemima furrowed her brow and blew a strand of her green hair out of her face before answering. "I'm not really sure, but I'm sure I'll completely fail at it anyhow. Potions and Herbology is more my thing." She grinned sheepishly, still holding her fellow Hufflepuffs in a tight hug. She'd actually kinda forgotten she was doing it. She looked at Claire beside her. "How have you been? Haven't seen you much lately." She let go of Ayumu for a moment to pull a sandwich out of her bag. "My last sandwich. You want it?"
