"Out on the terrace
We breathe in the air of this small town
On our own cuttin' class for the thrill of it
Getting drunk on the past we were livin' in"
Paris - The Chainsmokers
Barty has sometimes been described as 'cute' or 'handsome'. Personally, he was relatively apathetic towards his appearance before he had the money. Despite the regular, weekly workout, his physique remains on the lean side. He is slightly tall, standing at 6' (1.83m) and weighs around 147 pounds (67 kg). His characteristic, short-cut black hair hugs his skull. Also typical are his shiny, bright blue eyes and his usual warm, radiating smile. He makes sure that he doesn't let his money rot, using it monthly for trendy but simple clothing. He was, as a child, shrimpy, though his personality made up for it until his late growth spurt raised him up at the summer after high school. His skin is normally a light pink, almost pale.
Due to his riches, he is able to hide the fact that he is suffering from sleep deprivation and depressions. When he doesn't, dark rings form around his eyes and they turn bloodshot and pink.
Despite his debilitated state, Barty, most of the time, looks normal, trying to sleep more and taking expensive anti-depressants to prevent himself from looking like a dead person. His outfits are consist of (like aforementioned) simple-colored yet trendy clothing in layers.
He also carries around a quartz watch and a necklace with the letter 'A'. The former is sometimes absent, though the necklace can be found on him at all times. He would tell his friends that he would be carrying it for a friend and that he would give it to her 'someday'.

nothing ever makes sense
i'm not feeling alright
staying up 'til sunrise"
all the kids are depressed - Jeremy Zucker
Barty had the most excellent people skills and could be friends with practically anybody. He was also one of the friends that would first notice changes. His observant nature enabled him to easily keep track of the lives of his friends. He was the one anyone could relax and unwind around.
After becoming rich, his slightly frivolous nature caused him to be spoiled by the heaps of money he received. He would only spend them on himself and his father. One of his biggest flaws was also the neglectfulness of the rapid deterioration of his mental well-being. He kept the traumatic memories in the unconscious. His brain was slowly destroyed from the inside. His strong hatred of structure and routine and inability to focus and plan for the future caused him to hire a friend of his as his partner and manager in the music producing world. Without his friends, Barty would be an empty shell.
Unfortunately, he is slowly becoming the empty shell he feared to become.

You don't know what that means
Because a kitchen sink to you
Is not a kitchen sink to me, okay, friend?"

Barty lived with his father and two older sisters as his mother had walked out after he was born. His parents apparently had their issues (according to his sister) and he accepted the fact that he only had his father as his parent. He was short and sometimes received bullying due to the fact, though people eventually warmed up to him due to his outgoing personality. He was popular and had a large group of friends, but at the age of 11, he met someone that would stay in his life forever.
Angie came from a rough homelife. She had heavy depressions just at the age of 12 and Barty was her best friend. They did everything together. He took her to cinemas, malls, and parks but none of that would fix her. Barty loved her. Not only as a friend. She was his first love and likely his last one.
Every day when he was with her, he would try to fix her, getting her tons of presents and taking her to all sorts of places. Barty's dad and his sisters, even his teachers thought that it'd be wonderful, young love.
The Friday was when she called him over to her house. His sisters weren't home and his dad was working, so he impulsively decided to go over. After a long talk, she took a pistol she had brought, shooting herself in the process. Barty was startled. The mental trauma the situation had caused overwhelmed him. He went outside, called the police and pretended like he walked in on her dead body.
Nothing would be able to change the trauma. The traumatic stress and memories were stored in his unconscious. He neglected the fact that his mental health had started deteriorating. He was still the popular kid at school. Through extensive searching, he managed to form the friend group. They had fun and Barty met people in his life that could have helped him, but the opportunity was missed. He repressed the memories. No one really knew much about Angie. Only that she was an old friend that had killed herself and that he would always carry around a necklace with the letter 'A' to 'give it to her someday'. Barely did they notice. He was close with all of them.
Of course, the group split and after the last year of school, had to go off to college to study his only remedy. Music. He expressed himself. He recorded songs and remixes and he eventually became popular. His online following was off the charts. Various people were contacting him, but he knew that he wouldn't manage alone. One of his friends who had helped him create the music, Isaac accepted the offer to become Barty's partner and financial manager. Isaac was one of his dearest friends. Together, they made Anxsty and Blaxes, two anonymous DJs that would host shows for thousands of people. They were quickly popular and a worldwide sensation. The DJ group xlaifx was made by them and they worked like machines, creating a new, second album and planning their third tour. They took a small break from music as they had to return to their respective hometowns. Barty met his high school friends and the surreal experiences the short meetup had caused made strong connections.
For one year, Barty continued to work with Isaac, creating one new album and going on two tours and they were able to take a break from all the music-making. Barty was rich. For the first time in his life, he had some good money. He sought help for his current states, bought medicine and helped out his family. Being alone, he was thinking of the times he had with his friends. Therapy wasn't enough and he knew they would be able to help him. Plus, the links were too hard to shake off after the meetup.
He sent around the invitation. An anniversary. What could go wrong?
