Earth's introduction progressed as primitive, humble even. Its beginnings were of grass and dirt, trees slowly blossoming to reach the sky. Animals grew to magnanimous lengths and humans, being as ambitious as they were, lived in caves. When man gained a taste for meat, they hunted, forming packs to take down beasts much larger than themselves. Animals evolved, becoming smarter; humans did too. Soon, forests were cleared, houses were built, humans acknowledged one another and realized their differences. They fought over these small discrepancies with wars and armadas, sacrificing their own to gain wealth, power, and privilege over others. When land ran out, they built ships to sail across the tumultuous sea to expand their reaches.

But it was never enough.

Skyscrapers popped up, one after the other. Made of gleaming metal and glass, they spiraled higher than the clouds. Wars were at last settled, debts repaid, humanity began an era of peace. They flourished together, realizing that their arguments were silly, that their spats were fruitless, and so, together, they worked towards advancing themselves as a better society. With no more war, they put their minds together to cure common ailments, eradicating the cold, fixing fevers with simple patches, even making genome sequencing to get rid of the genetic risk of having an imperfect child. It could not detect everything, such as disabilities that could be brought on later in life by accident, injury, or even undetermined factors that could never be controlled, but the world, for the most part, was harmonious.

Where there is free will, there will always be trouble.

What if the body could be trapped at the perfect age? What if one no longer had to worry about their health? What if humans could live in a pristine body that never died? It would disrupt the cycle of life itself and perhaps put the fate of humanity in a terrible imbalance. Highly illegal experimentation, a company called GENOS began asking for volunteers. Those who were at their end stages of life, willing to donate themselves towards research for what they claimed to be a better future. They would pay well, they promised, to any and all who could gather in the belly of their building and subject themselves to the experiments. They told all it was for the betterment of the future, they claimed that they wanted to freeze humanity at it's prime.

They lied.

ImageImageIt was a woman by the name of Edna Grover who discovered that souls beneath the age of 18 were the most pliable. Adults who attempted the transfer perished, their bodies becoming necrotic and crumbling to dust, soul lost for eternity. Needing to use children, but having no legal permit to do so, the operation went underground, using scrupulous means to recruit the less fortunate. One by one they came, a slow trickle until the method became perfected. The turn around was high, people from all over wanted android children they could program for various functions and tasks. Soldiers, maids, clerks, security guards, they were all ran on one program, the brainchild of Dr. Grover.

It was never enough.

Wanting to take the program further, Dr. Grover wanted to detach the memories from the souls, creating a blank slate, usable for just about anything. She saw herself as a deity, creating life, building bodies, constructing art. It was only when Dr. Grover recruited a twin that she had crossed the line, unwittingly stealing the body of the second to turn into one of her pretty dolls.

Reservations || Reservations will be held for 48 hours, if you do not submit a WIP by the time the 48 hours are up then your reservation will be withdrawn and the spot will be given to someone else. Also, if I know you to be the type that reserve and submit a character without ever finishing them I will reject your reservation. All characters must be finished after five days!
Face Claims || As you can see I have already chosen these for you. Everything is debatable, if you'd like to change your face claim then please inform me in the OOC. All face claims must be of the anime genre, unfortunately no celebrities or anime video games will be accepted. Persona, Steins Gate, and Danganronpa are an exception to this rule.
Grammar and Spelling || This is an advance RP, meaning I expect you to know the different between throw and through. If you cannot handle that then this is not the RP for you. Each post has a four hundred word minimum and you must reply at least once a week. Fail to do so and you will be kicked out; we cannot wait forever on one person. The first password is your demon type.
Disappearing || This will not be tolerated. If you are going on vacation and are aware that you will be leaving please, please inform us in the OOC. If you must leave to take care of a personal matter/family business PM me. You do not need to specify what it is, just give me a warning that you will be gone so that we know to continue.
Inspiration || This comes from many places, however I would like to thank Scra for the black and white idea. Most of my RP's are very colorful but I liked the mood that this monochrome tone set and I know you might think it looks similar to yours because of this; however I did all the coding myself and if it still looks too similar to yours I will change it.
Photos/Dividers || These all come from my own personal collection. If you'd like to use them, feel free to PM me and I will give you my sources. After all, this site is all about sharing and growing together right?
Character Skeleton || This will be posted in the OOC.
Competing || This is not a first come first serve role play! If you would like to compete for a spot please go right ahead. If you find this tedious and unnecessary then you do not have to join. Each player has five days to submit their finished characters, then I will judge who gets the spot.
Password || The moment you've all been waiting for right? Anyways the password is s gif of your face claim and the name of the RP.

Fina struck first as she always did, fist out, blade spiraling through the air to slash at Black Jack. Vicious light in her eyes as the sun shone, the two androids fighting in hand to hand combat atop the construction crane. "Why are you here?" Io asked, jumping and delivering a spinning kick to knock Black Jack back as he tried to counter with a jab to the chest. "What is the North to you?" Black Jack grimaced as he fell back, almost stumbling down the crane. "Why do you want to know about me? My past is my own." But Io wanted to know because there was just something about him that was mysterious in a way she couldn't put a finger on. Something she needed to know, because they were fellow sufferers.

"Why are you trying so hard to live? Why won't you let me kill you?" Io asked, pouncing on her prey with a ferocity only she could accomplish, Fina couldn't fight like this. Black Jack bit on her face and kicked back, jumping backwards yet again. "We both want to die." He started, holding his injured arm with the vibroknife still stuck inside. "But I have a job I have to do." His eyes were steady and firm even without the mask to hide his emotions. "I have someone I have to protect." Still, there wouldn't be anyone to protect that someone anymore because Io could easily end him now, with his hurt arm he was vulnerable, one swift strike to the head and she could take out his core in an instant. From the look on his face, it seemed her opponent knew this too.

Io grinned, an odd feeling of power going through her. "Tell me who and I can protect them." Io snickered, only half meaning what she said. Black Jack gripped his arm tighter, taking a defensive pose. "I'm not dying here, Fina." Someone grabbed her from behind, twisting her wrists and pinning them down. Jarvis sneered with his victory, swooping in from behind. "We're teams of two, I wouldn't just let you off my partner like this." The household unit was not good at fighting. But he was very good at disabling someone from behind when they were distracted by something else. "Even now, Fina, you're quiet the idiot, aren't you?"

Jarvis held her down, and Black Jack's blade was ready to stab through and extract her core. Io grit her teeth, but she couldn't find a way out. "Io, Io please, I can't die here! I have to see Minnie again!" Fina was in a panic and it wasn't helping at all. "Any last words for Minnie, Fina?" Jarvis taunted, cruelty on his lips. "Please don't let her cry." Io let Fina take over, since she couldn't escape, there was no way left now. "Let her be happy, Jarvis." If only Minnie could always smile, then Fina would happily accept defeat.

"Got it! I got it!" Callisto committed the address to memory as the sounds of fighting filled the room. She looked up, spotting a vent and clambered to her feet. Callisto wasn't strong, but she was determined. She grabbed the sink counter and hauled herself up, standing on the ledge. Carefully, Callisto began to unscrew the cap. She winced, her fingers hurt, her pinkie had dislocated. "Come on Cali, you can do this." The door burst open, an android wearing a black mask burst inside and grabbed her. "We got her! Let's go!"

"Oh no you don't!" Jace yelled, cutting the android down the middle. Callisto dropped, rolling, her hip dislocating. She pushed it back into place and army crawled forward, towards the open door. She looked back, her eyes widening. Jace had killed the android, split down the center, the game was over. "We need to ru-"

"Jace!" She dropped to the ground, seizing. Someone had tazed her, shorting out her electrical circuits. The androids were all wearing black masks. "You're gonna take a nice nap now," there was a smile in their voice as they pushed her head into the carpet and dragged her towards the door. "Let me go!" Callisto screamed, grabbing the metal tray and throwing it at the android that had her. They collapsed and the idol unit sprung to her feet, thanking Dr. Grover for her agility. She ran towards the bedroom, frantically trying to call someone, anyone. Minnie didn't pick up, neither did Fina.

"I have a clear view, I'm taking the shot."

Something tor through her skin, the window shattering. Callisto's eyes widened as she fell out of the open glass, tumbling downwards. "Jace, I'm sorry," she whispered, something hooking around her spine just before she hit the ground. She hung limply, two halves jerked out of their sockets. Callisto couldn't move, but she was conscious.

"THE GAME IS NOW OVER!" The broadcast was loud, it was carnage in the streets, androids lay dead in all manner of ways, oil and wires spilling into the streets. Some were crushed with cars, others lay in half, one even had a spatula flung through its eye socket. Callisto felt sick, the sound of sirens was in the distance, no doubt humans had been hurt too. Slowly, Callisto was reeled in, like a fish on a hook, until she was at the top of a building. The hook was not wrapped around her middle, but shot through her stomach, its talons having been what kept her from hitting the ground.

She was not dead, but she did not feel pain either. "What did you do with Jace?"

"The combat unit completed the objective, she will live another round."

"Where are you taking me?" There was no answer as the hand reached behind her head, forcing a reboot.

"Callisto Fuyumi, AKA Project Xena," the voice had a smile in it. Code was running across her eyes, her neck was plugged into a USB outlet as the holes in her body were patched. "What do you want with me?" The android asked, finding her voice. "You did it, you found me, but you weren't part of the game." The code abruptly stopped, her vision clearing. "A human inside of an android, but why? What did Grover want with you?"

"I don't understand."

"You're a cheat code, Cali, therefore, I've removed you from the game. It would be no fun if it ended too quickly."

"Why are you doing this?"

"To teach that bitch a lesson, she fired me, she ruined me! Now, I'm going to ruin her."

"You're killing people!"

"Oh they were useless in the first place, even you know that. You though, you were always different. Dr. Grover had her eye on you from the day made that presentation on utilizing pill technology to attack and repair tumors. You already had cancer, but you were standing on stage, your sister by your side. Where is she now? She abandoned you, didn't she?"

"No, Io is out there, I know it."

"You thought she was the special one, didn't you? I know what it's like. Twins, one always pushed to the verge, the other neglected, ignored, their genius berated because they didn't have textbook smarts. Your sister was like that, wasn't she?"

"I appreciated Io," Callisto whispered. "I haven't stopped trying to find her." The holo pad, she had left it at home, she had found where Fina was. Hopefully Jace had headed there to help her. A cruel laugh grated her ears. "Too bad you'll never see her again." I might not be able to get a virus in you, but you're an android now and rules number one of androids? They must obey the humans."

"What are you going to do with me?"

"You're part of the game now, the grand prize, so to speak, or maybe, the final challenge."

Pain, pain, pain. The world was a blur and she was floating. What was this, what was going on? Io was angry, why was she here stuck like this? Where was Fina, where was everyone? What was this tube? She kicked and bashed her head against the glass, tearing out the wires stuck in her spine despite how weak and unresponsive her body felt. Eventually she broke through, coughing and panting trying to get the filthy liquid out of her lungs. Naked, but Io did not care. This place looked eerily familiar. Wasn't she here before? The GENOS Labs, that's right, this was where she was first turned into an android. "Ugh this feels like shit." Io wiped at her mouth with her arm, feeling sick and weak. Still she got to her feet when she heard footsteps.

"There you are. You could have waited for me to perform the extraction process." Dr. Grover sighed, looking as if she hadn't gotten any sleep in ages. "Now you'll have to suffer the withdrawal and weakness for a few days at least." Io narrowed her eyes to pinpricks as sharp as daggers. Grover, of course she would be here. "Here, for modesty's sake." A bathrobe was wrapped around Io, protecting her from the cold steel of the laboratory, of the winter outside. "What's going on here? Where's Fina, is she safe? Take me to her, Grover!" The android doctor raised an eyebrow of intrigue. "Oh, my. You really became attached to her?" Attached, no there was nothing like that. It was just....

Io balled her hands into fists. She'd fight for this if she had to, if there was no other choice. "She was the closest thing I ever had to a sister." Io's voice was deathly calm. "So where is she?" Sure she might not have the fancy tricks of an android but at the very least she was still good for a fight. "Dead. You screwed up, Io, you couldn't win against both Black Jack and Jarvis so you lost." Right now Jace was finding Fina's broken body with her core extracted and destroyed. Sure, Io might not care about anyone, but she sure cared for Fina. "She just wanted to make Minnie happy." Surely the wizard could do something about it. And Io would force her to cooperate even if it meant using her fists. "Bring her back!"

"That's the plan, you stupid child." Dr. Grover smiled, taking her by the wrist. "Come here." Into another room and then aa hallway into a familiar room. This was where Hymnos was, Io remembered that. "I will make them all happy." She could hear that crazed robotic voice, a crying android. The Administrator Unit was here. "And games are fun and make them happy so I will make them play a game." Pitiful Hymnos, being controlled by a virus she didn't even know was in her. "What does this have to do with Fina?" Io asked, disregarding Hymnos. Grover smiled brighter. "I'll have you interface with Hymnos. If you keep Fina in your mind and focus on her, perhaps Hymnos will be able to draw her fragmented data from her Network that I can then extract into a new core."

Was it really that simple? "What's the catch?"

Grover did not seem impressed. "There's no other option here. If you care about Fina at all, you have no choice but to obey."

____________________

"And that's why I am making this offer to you." Minnie's eyes welled up with tears. Why was this happening? She didn't want any of this. "So Jace is alone now? Callisto's gone, Fina and Io are gone?" The angel was trying to bring the sisters together again, to help them have a good relationship even if Io and Fina's memories could never come back. She just wanted to help them have a happy life as androids. "Of course there's a way to save them." The hooded figure at the other end of the call spoke. "You have to do as I say."

If Minnie was willing to meet the figure at the designated location, he would infect her with a poison that would be a substitute for the virus. It was risky, especially considering her own health... but she had to do it. She couldn't just leave it like this! "Jace will die if she doesn't have a partner by the next game start. But I'll allow you to be her partner in Fina's place, girl." With determination strong in her eyes, Minnie nodded. "Br-bring it on! I'll win the game with Fina and save my friends!" She took a deep breath, knowing what this would mean for her own dreams. "But don't think you can just control Callisto! She's even stronger than I am!" If all of what Io told her was true, Callisto wouldn't lose to some bitter old man. Io could break the programming and go against humans, so could Callisto if she fought hard enough.

|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||

Hello everyone, I'm Cali! Rewind, Hello everyone, I'm Cali! Pause, her face frozen, etching the details of every pore of synthetic fibers into her mind. She was gone again, slipping right through her fingers. Jace threw down the holo pad, gnashing her teeth. She kicked at the broken pieces of furniture, finding a piece of blue hair that had been cut, no doubt during a fight. Her voice rang in her head, the feel of her lips still soft on her own. "I quit this stupid game," Jace uttered, knowing the game master was listening. "So bring her back!" She had gone to the warehouse, Jarvis was already gone, but Black Jack was there, waiting for her, cradling Fina's unseeing eyes, having gone black due to the extraction of her core. "Jace I'm sorry," Black Jack whispered.

"We failed the directive."

"What do you mean?"

"Cali's gone Black Jack. They took her."

"Who?"

"The Game Master."

"How can you be sure?" She pulled out a hologram and tossed it at him. Black Jack caught it, the emblem. "He was wearing it the day of the broadcast, they were all wearing it now." Two triangles, side by side with a line going down the center. "What about Fina?"

"I'll die during the next round without her." Jace looked up at the sky, visible through a hole in the warehouse ceiling. "I'll be shut down... for good." Black Jack set Fina's head down, it would be rude to disrespect his fellow stealth unit. "What do I do?"

"Find Callisto, keep her safe. Bring her to Reiss if you have to, I don't care." His expression darkened, even if his partner was Jarvis, it wouldn't come to that. "We both know I can't do that." Reiss had a vendetta against Callisto for whatever reason, Black Jack wasn't going to just hand her over. They both froze, a broadcast flickering behind their eyes. The two of them rushed out of the warehouse, leaving Fina's corpse behind. They rushed to the center of the city, eyes turned upwards towards the large screen on the center of the train station's exterior. There were lights blaring in her pink eyes, her blue hair pulled into a high ponytail, she was wearing a frilly dress and high heels, but they all seemed to be a big too big, as though someone had rushed to pull it all together.

"Hi everyone, I'm Cali, your friendly idol unit! I know you all must be really scared right now, so I'm going to sing you a song to make it better!" The music flooded the streets, every loud speaker tuned into the broadcast. "Where is it coming from?" Black Jack asked, trying to trace the signal back, trying to use Artemis Mode to lock onto her registration code, but to no avail. Three minutes and fifty seconds later, it ended, but to Jace, it seemed to be the blink of an eye. "Can we trace it?" She asked, turning towards him, but Black Jack shook his head. "I know someone who might be able to."

"You're not thinking of Jarvis, are you?" The stealth unit shrugged, they were out of options.

~~~~~~~~~~
The microphone cut off, the music stopped playing. Callisto kicked off the heels, the dress sliding down her shoulders. "There, I did it," she uttered, tugging her hair out of the high ponytail. The Game Master smiled, his face still shrouded in the shadow of the hoodie he was wearing. "Brilliant, I'm sure the people are at ease, knowing their friendly, neighborhood idol is there to sing the booboos goodbye." Callisto glowered, stepping off of the platform, the computer generated audience disappearing. "Ooh, I'm so scared, the smallest and meekest of androids is going to punch me!"
"I did what you asked, now let me go!" He stepped back, easily grabbing her fist and wrenching her shoulder from its socket. It was lucky Callisto couldn't feel pain, otherwise that surely would have hurt. "You know I can't do that, besides, I'm your friend. Your only real one I might add."
"I have plenty of them and they aren't you!"
"Really?" He asked, clucking his tongue as Callisto struggled to push her shoulder back into place. "When you were in the hospital, who came to visit you?" She clenched her jaw, no one. The only visitors she had ever gotten were from her family and occasionally, a delivery of flowers. "Always the top of your class, always the one to get the lead in the play or the shining star of the debate club. Surrounded by people, but all alone. I know who you are Callisto, poor, lonely, Cali, whose own sister didn't visit her on her deathbed."
"You're wrong!" Callisto screamed, pushing her arm back into place. She lunged again, but he deflected her easily, knocking her to the side. "Still so frail, Dr. Grover didn't do you any favors." He grabbed a stray wire and roped it round her wrists, tying them behind her. "You're wrong, she-she's letting me live!"
"Is this what you call living? To be at the beck and call of any human that wants you." He pulled the wire forward and she fell onto her knees. "It's time to change things Callisto, I'm going to be the catalyst and you, you will be my pawn."
|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||
She had to save Fina. In the entire world Io only really had one friend. Sure, Metis was her brother but he let her become an android. Yes she had Dane but in the end he made friends with Fina too. And Minnie probably just saw her as pitiful more than anything. In the end, in this entire world, Fina was the only one who accepted her. Io wasn't going to let that go away. "How do I interface with Hymnos?" Io asked grimly at the Doctor she so hated, at the android who was so unfortunate. "It's easy. I just have to hook you up to her core." Dr. Grover held up the necessary wires. "You'll go unconscious again of course, but someone with your perseverance should be fine and retain your sense of self." Fina would be assimilated but because Fina was born from her it wasn't impossible to draw out remnants of Fina from Hymnos's mass of data.
"Hello human." Hymnos looked at her with a tilt of the head. "So many of my children are dying. Do you know why?" Hymnos was wringing her hands in distress, unaware of her own virus infection. "All android personalities are born from her. Fina, Jace, even Lita come from her." Dr. Grover explained as she stabbed the wire into Io's spine, the useless twin wincing from the pain but she bit her lip to hold it in. "Random aspects as well as chosen aspects of the source human's personality are processed through Hymnos, which becomes a Core with it's own mind and consciousness. That core is then placed into an android body and a new mind is born." Grover spoke as if she had the grandeur of creating even life itself. "I don't care about the science whatzit." Io growled threateningly. "Just hook me up so I can bring Fina back."
Hymnos looked at her and then teared up. "I want to make my children happy, do you know how I can make them happy?" She looked like a lost child who was given a task but did not know how to make that task come true. "You're not yourself. You're sick, Hymnos." Io hissed, shaking her head. "Well at least Jace will die because Fina's gone. That's a cold comfort at least." Hymnos began to cry again. "Poor sad Jace, she's so unfortunate! But she won't remember her brother, I won't let her!" Hymnos shivered as if ill. "Remembering that would make her sad!"
...
"Are there any memories of mine... that you've taken away?"
____________
The moon was shining, it was dark outside. No one had followed her, Minnie was truly alone. She knew Jarvis was busy with Black Jack and Jace right now so it was easy to slip away from the Flock. Was it smart? For her, it probably wasn't, she was already exhausted and knew it was going to just get worse. But for the sake of her friends, this was the only way to save them. "I'm here, villain." Minnie held out her hand once she saw the hooded figure. Yes he was imposing but she didn't care. "I'll join the game as Jace's partner." The hooded figure smiled menacingly at her in the abandoned subway station - hardly anyone operated here this late at night. "Good choice, little miss. It's not too late for Fina and for Callisto. If you do what I say, they can be saved."
Minnie had already made her choice. So when he gave her the injection, she did not hesitate in the slightest. Yes, the idea of fighting back did come to mind. But in the end she knew that was a stupid idea. A sick girl like her could not hope to overpower a full grown man, even if she had a weapon to bring to help. So she injected herself right into the big vein in her right arm, the blue line pierced by the needle. Near instantly pain overcame her and Minnie buckled over, clutching at her stomach, her head was pounding even worse than before. "Now you're poisoned too." The enemy said with a chuckle. "Foolish girl, you really think you can do tasks meant for Jace?"
The silver angel smiled weakly and shook her head. "Please don't misunderstand. It's not me who can do that. It's Jace. I'm just making sure she has... a partner to proceed in this sick game of yours."
Like this, Minnie knew for sure she would never get to perform again. But it was okay. She would pass her will to the next generation - Callisto would inherit her love for song and dance. "Cali will be a star for me..." Minnie whispered to herself, her quiet voice a small comfort as the new disease wracked her body.
"I need you to do something for me," Azariah Reiss stood on a dark street corner, her face obscured by a large sunhat and despite the late hour, she carried an umbrella. "I don't work for you," Jace growled, arms crossed, leaning against a brick wall. "I think it is within both of our interests that we work together you see my daughter... has been inducted into this little game."
"What do you mean?" Jace pushed off of the wall, rounding the corner to face her. "Minnie is a human, she can't be in the game." Jace seemed unconvinced, "my daughter acted out of her own selfishness and decided to contact the Game Master. She's been injected with something, a virus, to make her compliant like the androids. I have a feeling it's a microscopic chip that is influencing her, but without any proof, I can't do much." Jace's expression darkened, "Who's her partner?"
"You are, Jace."
"Tch, I'd be better off dead." She bit down on her thumbnail, that child was going to be a hindrance. Still, the fact that Minnie had done such a thing meant that Jace would live to see and fight another game round. "Where is she now?"
"At home, sleeping. My men found her on an abandoned subway platform, terribly ill."
"And what do you want me to do?"
"Protect her, at least until the Game Master can be found and stopped." A reasonable enough request. They were in this together now, but there was one last thing that Jace needed to know. "Why did you tell Fina to kill me and Callisto?" Had it just been Jace, she wouldn't have been surprised, but Callisto too? Now that was making it personal. "I thought Fina, no, Io, might be happier if her sister wasn't around. You're attached to her hip, if Callisto had to go, you would too."
"You don't get to make those decisions. You're playing G-d Reiss. I'll accept your offer, but once this shit show is over, I'm taking Callisto and going home."
"You have my word," and that was enough. For now.
~~~~~

"What are you doing to me?" There were wires in her neck, in her spine, code running across her eyes faster than the rush of a waterfall. "It's time for an upgrade," his voice was cold, the floor where she was tied up even more so. It was clear that Callisto wasn't going to be able to fight her way out of this, if she wanted to get away from the Game Master, she was going to have to be smarter.

Another broadcast had started, Callisto could hear it now. "Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, it's time for round three! Now that you've taken out half of the competition, things are going to get harder. We're leveling up!" He sounded so gleeful, his fingers flew across the keyboard so fast they had become a blur. "In this round, I've hidden flags all across the city. Find them before the hour is up. Good luck."

"Why? Why are you doing this?" Callisto asked, jerking. "Those are people you're killing!"

"They were useless anyways, weren't they?" The broadcast had already cut out, but it wouldn't have mattered anyways. "Orphans, convicts, the bottom rung of society. Instead of helping them, they're kidnapped and turned into slaves. I'm doing them a favor."

"You're sick!"

"And you're to loud!" He pushed a button and red numbers flashed across er eyes along with the puddle of code, Callisto blinked. "Androids should only speak when spoken to."

Connecting."

"What is this?" Io was confused. This whole place felt strange and - well, it wasn't even a place at all. She was inside the cyberspace that was the core of the Hymnos Network. The Administrative Unit whose only wish was to help androids be happy, Io was here and she would try to bring Fina back. "So I have to delve around these files to find Fina's remnants..." Io would do anything for her surrogate sister because she always did want one and Fina was even more useless than she was, so it was nice to have someone to be better than. A world of 1s and 0s her mind translated it into something that almost made sense, a world of cyber blues and circles and data clusters represented by glowing balls floating about, all connected to a giant ball of light that glowed too bright to see.

"Hymnos? Are you here?" She wouldn't be able to sift through all of this on her own, that much was certain. It wasn't the virus ridden one Io was trying to reach but rather the true Hymnos, the one who wasn't controlled by the virus, the Hymnos in her right mind. "I'm here. Are you here to save me?" Hymnos's clear voice returned to her, sounding both scared yet optimistic. "Fina, I don't know how you're here but please, rid me of this virus. I can't stand to watch my children be hurt anymore." Io didn't think she had that capability. Her job was to save Fina and get out, it wasn't her job to take care of Hymnos, right? "I thought you died, Fina. I'm..." The useless person could hear the crying in the voice transmission, the genuine relief. "I'm so glad you still exist, you're important, you matter, you've never been useless!"

That's just not true. "My whole life is nothing but failures, Hymnos." Io shook her head, she didn't have time for a pity party right now. "Okay, so where's the virus?" An odd feeling, almost as if someone inside of her head was pointing at something so of course Io dutifully looked over. She saw the white lights, except some of them were being eaten and corrupted by smaller darkest lights eating away at it from the outside. It was disturbing to look at, like a dark mass of black pixels distorting everything it touched. "How do I fight it?" She felt nothing but abject misery on the other end. "I don't know. Nothing I've tried worked. Am I doomed, Fina? Is there no way to save me?"

________________________

"Are you sure you're okay to do this?" Dane asked as Minnie vomited for the third time into yet another plastic bag. Nothing really came out this time though, which was lucky. "I'm okay." She wiped wearily at her mouth, feeling sicker than she had ever been and yet stronger than ever as well. This morning she vomited a decent amount of blood enough to even make Jarvis worry, and the second time she let out a small dribble. This time it was mostly just dry heaving, so that was good, right? "We need to find flags around the city, that's today's mission." Dane was driving the car around as the two tried their best to spot flags that would secure her and Jace's survival for the next round.

"Jace, how about you? Did you find any yet?" Minnie asked into the four way call. Jarvis and Black Jack were now helping too, so it was almost like an alliance of four androids working together. "They better have." Dane grumbled as he stepped on the gas through the city's skyways. "Because we've only found one so far." Black Jack was searching through the city as quickly as he could, but Jarvis of course was remaining safely at home where he wouldn't have to worry. "Jace, if you're ever in danger, let us know so I can reroute to your location." Black Jack reminded his fellow android. "Some android pairs are still trying to kill each other to speed up the game."

"Don't worry." Minnie's voice warbled as she fought the dizziness. "We'll save Callisto, that hooded jerk won't get away with this." She didn't regret her decision, no matter what might happen next.

|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||

"Ready for your close up?" The Game Master asked, tying a ribbon around her neck. Callisto jerked as her wrists were untied. She glanced at his hands, noticing the oddly smooth skin. "You're... an android?" Her eyes widened, but when she looked at him, no registration number came up. He laughed, the sound cruel and grating. Callisto winced, shying away. "You can't figure out this puzzle Callisto. No, more like you won't solve it. Get on, your fans are waiting," he shoved her forward and she stumbled, the ill-fitting heels nearly making her ankle snap. What was this update he had given her? What was he doing? There were still wires connected to her, sticking out of her back and neck.

The light blinked three times and then she was live. "Hi everyone, I'm Cali! Congratulations on finishing the round, I'm going to sing you a song now!" It was a song she didn't know and yet, the words filled her head. It was peppy, but slightly angry, not the usual idol mantra the world was used to. Her fake audience pumped their fists in time to the tune and just when she reached the high note, she froze up, her body stiffening, her jaw hanging slack as her eyes went blank. Callisto fell forward, knee joints buckling, eyes cloudy. The Game Master cut the broadcast, not even he knew what was wrong.

Her body, her real body, was having what appeared to be a stroke. With her brain cut off from oxygen, she had been disconnected from her android body and jerked harshly back into her real one.

"Get her out! Out!" Dr. Grover yelled, pushing frantically at buttons that glared red. "We need to figure out the problem, fix it, and plug her back in!" Doctors and nurses rushed around her like mice, pulling Callisto's pale body out of the tank. "She's not breathing, I'm getting the defibrillator and intubating. Get me ten CC's of dopamine and adrenaline," the nurse pushed it in through the port, Callisto's back arching weakly.

"It's an aneurysm," the Doctor knew the symptoms, they had nine minutes to reverse and repair it or else the damage would be permanent. "Is it the cancer?"

"There's a new growth on the spine." Like bees in a hive, they rushed around the lifeless body, using the paddles to shock her heart back into working, but simultaneously spreading the bleeding to other parts of the brain. "We need to get her to an OR, now!" They cleared the way, a weak gasp coming from the vessel.

"Io..." it was barely a word, it sounded more like a desperate attempt to gather air, but Dr. Grover had heard it.

"You will destroy yourself, agonizing for your other half." Dr. Grover pulled on a pair of gloves and followed the doctors into their private operating room.

"Can't you see, she's thrown you away?"

~~~~
"Yeah, I'm still looking." Jace replied grimly, watching as three android pairs fought for a scrap of cloth they thought was a flag. She had been minding her own business when the broadcast had gone off, Jace eagerly searching the background for any sign of Lita-er-Callisto. There, in the corner, a leg, Jace had no doubt in her mind who it belonged to, which confirmed her theory that those who had attacked their apartment had taken Callisto, but why? What did the Game Master want with Callisto? What was he getting at? Jace grit her teeth, she needed to survive this round first. "Dammit, where is it?"
Standing atop the buildings gave her both an advantage and disadvantage. Thankfully, she was safe from the carnage in the streets, but it also meant she would be slower to reach the flags if they were farther below. She had missed two, placed in obvious vantage points so that fights would break out. Jace was strong, sure, but going up against six security units and two servile ones was not how she wanted to start her day. At long last, she spotted a green flag, waiting, waving in the wind. "I've got my sights on one!" She poured on the speed, running towards the green scrap, metaphorical breath caught in her throat.
As soon as her fingers brushed the cloth, the ding sounded in her forehead, their team was safe. "I've got it, we're alright." Jace grinned, perhaps satisfied with herself for the first time in a long time. She had done something right, both of them would live to play another round. "Jarvis, Black Jack, in the announcement, did you see what was in the background?" Jace inquired, wanting to confirm the visual. "Has anyone been able to trace the broadcast?" There had to be an IP address, or a signal, a ping, something that could lead them to the Game Master and end this stupid suicide match.
A second broadcast started, it was Callisto, smiling for the camera, dancing to a song that Jace didn't recognize. It didn't matter, it was a relief to see her vibrant with life, sparkling as she moved in an impromptu dance, no doubt coming up with it on the spot. She sunk onto the ledge of a building, allowing herself to drink in the blue hair and pink eyes that screamed at her.
And then, it stopped.
No, not the broadcast, she stopped. She collapsed forward, pink eyes lifeless in an instant. There were gasps and screams from humans and androids both below, their idol had fallen.
|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||
Here in cyberspace, Io got a first person view as the virus ate away more and more at Hymnos. She wasn't sure what she could do to fight it and she had a feeling that even if she were to try, it would just end up eating away at her instead. "I'm sorry, Hymnos, I can't save you. Probably only the Game Master can." Setting that aside for now she continued her search, trying to find fragments of Fina still lying around. If only she could find enough that it was possible to restore her little sister, then everything would be fine. "C'mon, Fina, Minnie still needs you, stupid." Io flew around, trying to sift through the remaining glowing blobs, analyzing the data as quickly as she could.
And then her curiosity was piqued. She found Black Jack's data pack. He was still alive, then? Io snickered to herself. She'd kill him happily once she was out of here as payment for him killing Fina. And the best way to figure out how to defeat your enemy was to learn everything there was to know about them. She touched it, downloading a copy of it into her own mind and wasted no time in viewing the information. One of the Pracer twins, his sister was Jayme Pracer. "So that's who you wanted to protect." She could hear it in her head, Black Jack's sobbing. "Why am I alive? Why can't I die?" He cried to Doctor Grover, who was something like a mother but also like a cruel torturer at the same time.
Jace's brother was Black Jack. Just another reason to kill him, then.
"Ah, there." A precious little blob that felt so utterly familiar. Fina wasn't completely gone! "There you are, sis." It was the memory of Io first waking up in Fina's body, how they first met that day at the Flock. It had barely been a month since then, hasn't it? "You're the only one who was ever nice to me." She continued to search when the same pleasant voice interrupted her. "Do you want to be happy?" Hymnos asked, arms spread wide open. "Are you happy now?" Io shook her head. "No, I'm not. I'll never be." She sighed, continuing to search the Hymnos network for more fragments. "But Fina was, so I have to bring her back."
"I'm sorry.
Maybe this will help you become happy."
....
"Cali." Minnie's voice was faint as she saw the broadcast. Something was very wrong. "Dane, drive us to the GENOS Labs! Maybe something's wrong with her source body!" She could check on Io there too, if there was a way in. "I can get us in." Black Jack assured her, already making his way to group up with Jace. Thankfully the mission was over for today - now it was time to continue the hunt for the Game Master. Dane nodded, twisting the wheel to swerve around, heading for the new destination. "Wait for me there and I can put us in my Stealth Field, okay?" She coul hear the sound of a tea kettle, tea was ready. Minnie would have liked some but she was on a mission now. "I'll report to Lady Reiss, little miss." Jarvis's half mocking drawl came through the earpiece.
Once outside the gates of the GENOS Labs, Black Jack was already there. "Where's Jace?" Dane asked, helping Minnie out of the car, using his arms to brace her as her shaky legs stepped out in an attempt to support her tiny weight. "She isn't here yet." Black Jack confirmed for them, his mask already back on. The two were a bit awkward with each other - one a kidnapper, the other the kidnapping victim. But now they were on the same team with the same goal - take down the Game Master. "I still don't think you should be here." Black Jack told Minnie with a frown. "The mission's over, you should go back home." But the angel shook her head, eyes swimming in pain. "I want to help save Io and Callisto. They're my friends." And friends never abandon each other, that was what she decided.
...........
"I can make her happy." The infected Hymnos touched the unconscious aneurysming Callisto with her tech hands. Her eyes were wide and frantic, seeing a source human not connected to her network made her feel very uncomfortable. Deep inside a part of her was telling her that she needed to bring Calisto into the cyberspace within her, at least for now. "I can put her to sleep, Dr. Grover!" Without even asking for permission, she placed her hands on the interfacing implants on Calisto's back while the doctors tried to work. She had a feeling she could grant someone happiness if she were to do this. "Be happy now Lita, you are safe with Momma."
❝I am the one who ruined me; I did it myself.❞
ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#F54D70 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #FF7256
|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||
"It's a hemorrhage," the aneurysm had turned out catastrophic. "Yes, Hymnos," Dr. Grover whispered, "put her to sleep." They had to make an incision on Callisto's head. Long blonde hair was shaved off, falling in piles to the ground of the operating room. They would relieve cranial pressure by removing a block of the skull for the time being. "It's inflamed," this was the worst case scenario. They were going to relieve the pressure, place a drain, and stick her body into the hyperbaric chamber to reduce inflammation. "What do we do next?" The surgeons looked at her, what steps would they take? Dr. Grover had some of the most advanced medical equipment in the world in her lab. "The cancer came back, it's malignant." End stage, end game. The stasis chamber was helping slow the growths, but it wasn't stopping them. They needed a new game, they needed to be smarter, one step ahead.
"Cryo," Dr. Grover turned to face her team, "we'll use cryo therapy to freeze the tumors. We're going to start a new chemo regime, throw radiation into the mix. Then, between stages, we'll keep her body temperature below average to stay one step ahead of the cancer. Start a blood transfusion and get me a catheter." This was a risk, of course, but every new procedure came with them. Once the inflammation went down, they would replace the fraction of the skull that had been removed. "Intubate, the last thing we need is a drop in oxygen stats." They worked around her, the poor child filled with more wires than an android. "I made a promise," Dr. Grover said quietly, "I'm not going to let this girl die."
Callisto felt as though she were floating. One second, her world was pain as she was poked and prodded, bright lights blinding her eyes, doctors whispering all around her. She was familiar with this world, this haze of aching that never went away. Now though, she was floating, her body drifting in a sea of quiet darkness. All was at peace and Callisto felt as though she didn't have a care in the world. An ocean of code swam underneath her. Callisto opened one eye, then the other, and realized that she wasn't alone. A gasp was stuck in her throat as she slowly turned, seeing through the eyes of every other android, all of them connected to Hymnos. "Where am I?" Callisto herself had never been attached, Dr. Grover had made certain of it. Lita had though.
"You forgot me."
She stood before her, pink hair voluminous, her golden eyes filled with tears. "No, I could never forget you." tears sprung to her own eyes. She was in her body, her real body. Blonde hair gone from chemo, blue eyes giving her a doll-like appearance. She was small, frail in appearance, not the vibrant-full of life character everyone knew her to be. Lita stepped forward, embracing her, the hug was short lived. She melted away, her memories rejoining Callisto's own. Callisto shivered, but she felt stronger somehow. Callisto balled her hands into fists, placing one over her heart. "I'm sorry Lita."
~~~~

Jace was already on her way to GENOS Labs. Whatever had happened, it wasn't the Game Master's doing. No, it must have been her real body. Did Metis see it? Did he make the connection? Black Jack rang, they were headed to GENOS too. "Keep Minnie out of there, she has no business in this." Jace growled, hanging up. She jumped from roof to roof, it took her a bit longer, but she reached the lab right behind the party she had tried to keep away. Dane, Black Jack, and Minnie, all waiting, like sitting ducks because they had no clearance. "Come on, just don't draw attention to yourselves. Minnie, hide your face," Jace took them through the service entrance, where androids went to get repaired. She led them past the rows of android bodies, waiting for interfacing, and upstairs. No elevator, elevators had cameras.

The stairwell led them into the hallway of tanks, floating human bodies sleeping like babies within. Jace had always wondered, if she passed by her body, would she recognize it? There were dozens and dozens of stasis tanks, some now empty, their hosts dead thanks to the Game Master. They would find replacements soon enough, there was a demand for androids, more so than orphans and street rats. "Callisto's tank isn't in here." Io's would be, if she was still alive. Jace didn't want to put Minnie through that, besides, finding her in this maze would be nearly impossible and Jace didn't even know what Io really looked like.

"Callisto is this way," they left the hall of tanks and entered a separate, private chamber, the tank empty. "No," Jace whispered, circling the empty tank, water splashed on the floor, it was a rushed job. She touched the glass, the door hissing open from the other side. "Hide," Jace hissed, pushing Dane and Minnie behind one of the machines to obscure them from view.

"Jace, Black Jack, I was expecting you." Dr. Grover removed a pair of gloves, it did not escape Jace's notice that they were bloodied. "What happened? Where's Callisto?" Jace pressed, "I could ask the same of you. She slipped right through your fingers, didn't she?" The jab would have hurt if Jace had a heart. "There's been... a complication." Black Jack placed an arm on Jace, whose hands were balling into fists.

"The cancer has returned, it led to an aneurysm none of us were expecting. It... hemorrhaged and caused swelling." None of that made sense to her, all that medical talk meant nothing. "What does that mean?" Dr. Grover pushed her hair back from her face, she kept a tight pixie cut, close cropped around her cheeks. "The tumor was malignant. It's end stage, her body is in rapid deterioration. This isn't something a human recovers from." Dr. Grover smoothed out her lab coat, bits of crimson blood staining it. "More than likely, Callisto human body will remain in a vegetative state, indefinitely."

"But she can still interface?"

"Yes, her implants were not damaged." Jace sighed in relief, that was good news, at least.

❝Going around in circles, just bring it all to ruin.❞

|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||

"...What... what is this?" Minnie was not prepared for this kind of horror show. It seemed as if all cards were on the table now that they were here at the GENOS Labs like this. Couldn't they simply eliminate Dr. Grover and be done with it all? Minnie didn't like the idea of murder but she was tired of having such an evil woman hurt so many of her friends. Unfortunately for her though, Grover might just be Callisto's only chance at life if what she said was true. "Why are you doing this?" She asked in a low whisper, voice trembling even as the dizziness overwhelmed her. "Be quiet!" Dane hissed, clapping his hand over her mouth. "We can't be spotted here, Minnie, we shouldn't even be here!"

Black Jack however wasn't one to remain quiet. "Where's Hymnos? Why haven't you cured her yet?" He stepped forward, putting his arm out in front of Jace protectively. Grover's face tightened slightly. "I've tried." She stammered impatiently. "Right now we have more important matters to deal with." But Black Jack wasn't satisfied with just that. "You could have killed the Hymnos Network and created a new Network to sync us all to so that the virus will be phased out. Why didn't you?" The answer was obvious even if Dr. Grover did not answer. It was because whoever Hymnos was, she was important to the mad doctor. "That's not an option." Grover said quietly, looking back as the medical team took Calisto's body to the cryochamber.

"There's still something you can do." Black Jack was quiet. "Why didn't you simply put Callisto's mind into Io's body?" With how the human source worked, that sort of thing would be easy to accomplish. "You can't profit off of a human, can you?" It wasn't just that of course - but doing that would override Io completely. Would Calisto be willing to live after knowing her sister died to give her a healthy body? There were many reasons why Grover did not use that route, but Black Jack would only accept one of them. "There's a reason Hymnos gave you back your memories." Grover murmured. "Should't you focus on protecting your special one?"

Protect? But Jace was right here at his side, what did she mean by protect?

......

"Now you can be happy." Hymnos sounded pleased with herself. Already half of Fina was back, Io just had to get back the rest of her and then the intact data could be transplanted into a new core, a new android body with an upgraded model but hopefully similar aesthetics as the old, destroyed one. "Happy? What do you mean?" Instead of an answer, a strange girl was there instead, touching what seemed to be the remnants of Lita. "Who are you?" Io floated closer, feeling a pounding agony in her mind as if something was about to break. "What are you doing here? Are you another source human?"

She could feel arms wrapping around her. "You should know who that is."

Memories flooded into Io's mind, memories once long gone. This entire time she did have a twin sister, a sick sister, she had Callisto. And then she failed her, forcing her to partake in this horrible project, extending the suffering they called life for some cruel old witch to make money off of with her evil experiments.

Callisto's tearful plea to be allowed to die. And Io failed, she failed, she only ever failed.

"She's here."

Even if her physical body was out of reach, Io could still kill Callisto's mind and set her free that way. In the cyberspace, Io knew that she was stronger. And there she was, there was her precious sister who longed to die. "Cali. She gave me back my memories." Her breathing paused for a moment - if it could be called breathing. "I'm going to set you free now."

Tears dripped down her fake eyes in this fake world.

"I'm sorry for everything."

For trying to save her, for ever loving her, for ever thinking it was possible for a piece of garbage like her to ever do anything to help Callisto survive. In the end all she did was make everything worse. But now, here, there was no one who would stop her. No Jace to get in the way and betray her. It was time for salvation.

Io.

Her heart stuck in her throat, tears sprung to her eyes. "I've been looking for you everywhere." No, this wasn't right, there was no glint of recognition in those familiar orbs. "You don't know who I am, do you?" It would explain why her sister never came to look for her, it wasn't that she didn't care, it was that she didn't remember. And then, Hymnos, returned and so did the memories. The beach, the ocean, drowning, Metis, the hospital, Jace, Dr. Grover, all of it returned and Callisto gasped, falling to her knees. Io's voice drifted towards her, she remembered now, but it was too little too late. "They cured my cancer Io," Callisto said quietly. She didn't know, of course, what was happening to her real body, that she had relapsed, that she would never be the same.

"I can get better Io! I can go back to school, we can go back home, we can be a family again!"
There was a glint of hope in her eyes, even as she remained there, kneeling, pleading with her sister. There was hesitation, too. "No, we won't go home. We'll... we'll run away! Metis can take us, I can code computers to make money for us, Metis has money from the military, and we can make a life for ourselves where no one will find us!" Didn't that sound nice? Wouldn't that make them happy? "Io, let's go home." Callisto held out her hand and for a moment, she looked like her old self.

~~~~
Jace stiffened when she heard Minnie cry out. Thankfully, her voice was drowned out by the sound of the machines. As long as the interface plates were whole and unaffected, Callisto could have a functional body. Even if it wasn't her own, even if it needed maintenance sometimes, Callisto could live the life of a super star. She didn't need Io, the sister that cast her away, or Metis, the brother that left his family behind. She had Jace and Callisto was all Jace needed too. Her assignment, her charge, her.... love. "We need to fix Hymnos, or at least, stop the Game Master. Is there no way to trace the signal back to him?" Jace asked, crossing her arms and cocking a hip. "If we stop him, we end the games, and maybe then, we can get Hymnos back into top shape?"
After all, if the androids began to remember themselves, there would be a riot. No, they needed Hymnos to keep them all together. "Why not do what you did with Lita? Erase the data to the point just before the virus downloaded. Uninstall any recent hardware or updates. Reboot Hymnos from there." Dr. Grover tapped the pen to her holo pad against the tablet, lost in thought. "That could work, if we adjust the-" she started going off into code, things that Jace didn't understand. "Tell your guests to come to my office, they aren't authorized to be here and they can't be in this room. It needs to remain sterile," Jace nodded, she knew that their presence wouldn't go unnoticed by the security team. She shared a glance with Black Jack, wondering what was going on inside of that head of his.
Protect his special one? His priority should have been Callisto, they were assigned to protect her. He was wrong to kill Fina, but he was doing what he needed to survive.
Callisto was speaking of dreams but Io knew that it wasn't that simple. Pain was clear in her eyes when Callisto rambled on about possibilities for the future. No, going home was not an option, Io knew now that she needed to not be in the same place as the people who birthed her. Callisto was the favored twin and Io was the unwanted one and that was just that. "I can't. I have to take care of Fina, and Fina has to stay with Minnie." Running away just wasn't an option, not this time. "But there's no reason why you can't go home. We can still be friends and meet up every day." But Io couldn't leave because it meant Fina would die. It wasn't choosing one over the other, it was choosing to keep both Callisto and Fina alive. "Fina's become a good friend, I won't let her disappear. Even though I want to run away with you, I've wanted that all my life now, Cali."
Did she understand? Or would Cali take it the wrong way? Io didn't know, but she knew one thing for sure. "Help me gather the rest of Fina's remnants then I'll help you escape, I'll take you back and Metis will protect you with all of his military know-how." Maybe Callisto could go under military protection for the time being, at least until Dr. Grover was finished off. Her eyes watered again, biting her lip as she realized this. "So this means... you don't want to die?" She didn't have to bear the role of executioner anymore? She didn't have to kill her anymore? Io lowered her hands, almost falling prone, shaking. "We can be happy?"
Working together it didn't take long for the twins to finish finding Fina's fragments. "That should be enough. I'll put her back together for Dr. Grover to extract." Hymnos promised, sounding very happy that for once she was able to help two androids find happiness. "Callisto, are you ready?" She held her twin's hand, together again for the first time in forever. "I'll see you on the other side."
........
Io woke up and disconnected from Hymnos. She was dizzy and heard a commotion, there was a lot of loud talking going on. How long would she have to wait at the GENOS Labs until getting Fina back? "I'll be waiting, Fina." Io whispered to Hymnos, who nodded, also in a daze but for a different reason. She limped down the corridor, following the sounds and the roar of familiar voices. What could possibly be happening?
"Give my sisters back or you're dead, Grover." Metis had his guns all at the ready. Some of his military buddies were surrounding the Labs too, ready to storm at a moment's notice. This was the end game now, he wasn't leaving without Callisto and Io safely in his arms. Grover had her hands up but her mouth was shut tight, and Black Jack had grabbed Jace and flung her to the side to keep her safe from the armed soldier. "Kidnapping is a crime, and I know for sure my sisters didn't want to be a part of this virus fiasco!" Grover was grim and shook her head. "She's not safe to be moved right now, Metis." But she didn't dare move with the guns trained on her like this.
Metis was not pleased and he took an aggressive step closer. "As if you give a shit about her, you let the Game Master kidnap my sister's android body! You're only in it for the money, so don't pretend you care about any of the androids." Io watched with a sense of doom in the corner. What was happening? Where was Callisto and why hadn't she awoken yet? Where - what was that cryotube? Was Callisto in there? "Wait, wait, but Callisto said her cancer was cured?" Io stepped out from hiding, anger clear in her eyes. "You lied again, Grover!" Too bad she wasn't Fina right now or she'd have the evil Doctor's neck in a vice. Metis was quick to run over and grab her, huddling the elder twin safe in his grip. "Shh, it'll be okay. I'll-" Io bit his arm and kicked him back. She couldn't go back to being human! As Fina, she finally was able to be useful! She finally stopped being a piece of trash good for nothing!
"Jace, Black Jack, take the sisters away from here." Dr. Grover commanded. "It's too dangerous here for now."
And at that moment the gun fired.
And the bullet struck a certain Minnie Reiss who had jumped out to protect the Doctor. Io's eyes went wide and a feelng of despair went through her, all strength leaving her and she went to her knees. Even Metis was shocked by the sudden dash, leaving an opening for Black Jack to seize his weapons. "Y-you idiot!" Minnie coughed red spittle as Grover caught her, her chest a cave of blood. "Grover's the o-only one wh-who can give her life! Th-there's no hope left, Metis, s-so let her live as an..." Her eyes fluttered shut and Io could feel as if her own heart was being split open.
"Metis!" Io pounced her brother, fire burning in her eyes. "What were you thinking?!"
"I was trying to save you and Cali from this evil!" He growled, ready to pull out a pistol from his pocket even if his rifle was gone. "Get out of my way, I can-" Io headbutted him before he could react, grabbing the pistol for herself. While Metis had military training, he was not expecting his sister to attack him, and he was not ready for her ability to trade fisticuffs. "Grover, can you save her?" She turned the gun back to the Doctor. "If you let Minnie die, I'll kill you."
"Once Hymnos releases Callisto, she'll return to your android body." Dr. Grover explained as they walked, "When that happens, she'll release a signal, her IP and registration will ping directly to my holo pad and when that happens, I'll be able to trace her location for a mere second." They could extract Callisto, they could end this game. "I'm going to entrust you with this, Jace, Black Jack. This flash drive contains the antidote to the virus, I've been working on decoding it since it began." To save Hymnos, to save the remaining androids. "Reverse the virus, extract Callisto. Return her here for any repairs," Jace nodded, listening to the instructions with keen ears. Black Jack seemed preoccupied by something, lately he was off his game and Callisto didn't appreciate it. Minnie and Dane walked between them, forced to follow Grover to her office since she had been shot.
"Jace, you won't have long." Jace nodded, "I understand. The Game Master will know what happened as soon as Callisto comes back online." More than likely, they would try to evade them all, to switch locations, but that would mean they would be exposed until they reached their next safe house. "I have a feeling the Game Master, whoever he is, isn't entirely human." Dr. Grover pushed her glasses back up onto the bridge of her nose, the Doctors were preparing Callisto's body now, she was still in the operating room, but they would move her to cryo tank once she was stable and ready. Jace eyed the window to the operating room, there was a blood transfusion going on. A lot she didn't understand had happened that Dr. Grover had tried to explain, but Jace was still trying to wrap her head around it.
Where was Io in all of this? "Did Fina's host make it out?" Jace inquired, knowing that Minnie was waiting for confirmation as to whether or not Fina was alright. "Yes, Io is fine. She is collecting fragments of Fina inside of Hymnos and will be put into a new android body once her body has recovered enough from the shock of being brought back so suddenly." It could do damage to the human to be brought back quickly, but Io seems to be up and ready to get back into another unit. She was here by choice of course and she had signed the papers willingly. They were almost to the office when the doors burst open and the atrium was flooded with soldiers in military garb. "No one move!" A familiar boy yelled, pointing a gun at her.
"What are you doing here!" Jace shouted, preparing her stun gun. Black Jack shoved her out of the line of fire, pushing her against the wall. "Black Jack, stop! I'm made for combat, you're not!"
"You can't hurt humans Jace, none of us can!"
"You!" His sights pointed at her forehead, a death shot for any android. "You let them take her!" It was in that moment that Io arrived and Metis grabbed her, but she rejected him, pushing him away. In response, his rifle shot off and Minnie Reiss jumped in front of the bullet to save Dr. Grover, bird shot destroying her chest cavity. "Shit," someone cursed, but Jace wasn't sure who, more than likely, it was Dane. Basic first aid was something required of all combat units. "Move," Jace pushed Black Jack aside to kneel beside the human, whose clothing had been torn, her flesh exposed, a mess of bone and blood. "This isn't something I can fix with a few band aids." Jace informed them, using her own jacket to plug the wound and minimize the damage. "We need to get Minnie to the operating room, now."
Dr. Grover stepped forward, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "Security, please escort these ruffians out of my facility." She placed a hand on Io's shoulder, "I'm going to fix her, but you might not like the solution." Down the hall, they were carting Callisto away in the cryo tank, Metis spotting it and trying to break free of the security team to follow her. "Bring that one to my office, remove all of his weapons, if you will, I don't care if you have to strip him naked." Metis and Io deserved an explanation. "Io, you should go with him," Dr. Grover's voice was oddly soft as Jace lifted Minnie's body, they needed to fix Minnie as soon as they could, they needed blood, they needed oxyen, and possibly a new rib cage.
~~~~~~~~

Her eyes opened slowly, a ceiling covered in screens greeting her. This wasn't right, no, she should be back at GENOS, not looking at this mess of diagnostic code trying to evaluate what had gone wrong. "No, no, no!" Callisto jerked, but found that her wrists and ankles were strapped down. "Let me go!" She was free, she was in her human body, so how had she gotten back here? Io, she needed to get back to her sister! "You left me!" His voice was grating, accusatory. "You were gone!" His nails dug into her synthetic skin, he was clearly angered by her disappearance. Please, I need to go back to my friends."

"I am your friend! I'm your only friend and now, you bitch, you've ruined everything!" A scalpel glinted in his fingertips, hovering above her ocular sensors. He froze, poised above her, if Callisto could sweat, it would be gathering at her temples. She swallowed hard. "They won't find you, they can't find you, I won't let them!" She winced as he brought it closer to her skin, lowering, and finally, dropping it. "We need to leave." A bag was dragged out, her wrists and ankles were unstrapped, only for her to be unceremoniously stuffed inside, the bag zipped shut, darkness surrounding her.

Io was still in a daze when she was escorted into the office with her brother, Metis. "You're safe now, Io." Metis had no remorse for what he did, did he? Io was simmering, she wasn't sure what to do. Was it the Fina in her that was so upset? Why did she herself care so much for Minnie's wellbeing? And yet she was desperate to do something, anything, she just wanted Minnie to be okay. The pistol was still safely tucked into her pocket, but she was helpless to do anything to save her.... friend? Dane was here too, mostly because there was nowhere else for him to be. "You didn't have to shoot." Io muttered, looking away from him. She was at least given a jacket for modesty's sake. "You shot an innocent, Metis."

"I'm trying to put our broken family back together, Io." Metis's voice rose, he too was heated. "Don't you want everything back to normal? Then mom and dad won't have to cry anymore, then Carme can grow up having two big sisters to love her? Then maybe mom and dad can finally tell you how much they love you." Io rolled her eyes dramatically, putting her chin on her hand to rest her sore neck. "Hah, as if. They never cared. Once dad hit me for skipping class, don't you remember?" She could still feel the sting of disappointment, both on her cheek and in her chest. "It wasn't class, it was an exam." Dane raised his hand timidly. "I gave her the idea, it was my fault." He squeaked, no doubt terrified of Metis. "You don't get to talk, you've been a bad influence on Io since you first met."

Io stood up, cheeks fuming. "Excuse me? But he was my only friend growing up! Other than Cali I had no one!" Dane was always there who accepted her and cared for her because he too was a lonely broken person. He comforted her when she was a failure, she gave him a leg of support when his mother beat him. And together they ran right into Lady Reiss's open inviting arms, becoming members of the Flock. "You could have had me." Metis muttered, glaring hard at her. "At the time you were focused only on Callisto. Everyone was. She was the one who everyone loved. I love her too." But Io didn't have any solution anymore. If freedom didn't exist... then would she have to resort to staining her hands red with her twin's blood again?

The door opened. Dr. Grover regarded all three of them gravely. "Minnie is being worked on at the moment. But for now, let's talk about Callisto." Yes, Io very much wanted to talk about Callisto. "What's wrong with her?" Io wanted to know. No, she needed to know. "She isn't going to be able to live a normal life again. The cancer relapsed and progressed faster than we could have predicted." Dr. Grover looked almost sad if it was possible for such a greedy devil. "The only way for her to live a life now is to be an android. However she won't be hooked up to the Hymnos Network, so she'll be relatively free."

"Let her live with her family." Metis growled. "It's what she would want. Even as an android, let her come home." Io glowered, knowing it was true. Unfortunately, Io was a very bad and spiteful person. "She would not." Io muttered, crossing her arms. "Callisto would rather live with Jace to keep her safe." She rolled her eyes. No, their parents did not deserve to have their daughters back. "Maybe they're in love." She lied cheekily. "But first we need to find the Game Master and finish this stupidity. When will Fina be ready?"

Grover smiled.

"Tonight."

❝I am the one who ruined me; I did it myself.❞

|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||

Swallowed by darkness, immobilized by wires, Callisto lay on the bottom of what she assumed to be a car. She wasn't afraid, for some reason, she didn't feel nerves or butterflies dancing in her stomach. In some strange way, she knew the Game Master wouldn't hurt her. They were friends he said, over and over, muttering as he dumped the bag into the trunk of a van. Somehow, Callisto had the feeling that this wasn't the first time she had been stuck inside of the trunk of a car either. Fina came to mind, and Dane, and Minnie. This had happened before, hadn't it? To Lita? What had she done then? Callisto tried to think. She squeezed her eyes shut and thrashed, but the wires were so tight they were digging into the silicone skin.

She was supposed to wake up back in her own body, her human body, so why had she woken up in this one? She froze as she remembered that brief glimpse, full of pain. Doctors had rushed around her, pushing needles and tubes into her body. Something had happened, hadn't it? Callisto had a sinking feeling she had relapsed. The idol unit lay still in the trunk of the car, her optics adjusting to the darkness. Callisto was not afraid, strangely. It felt just like that fateful night, when Metis had bundled her up in a blanket and had tried to take Callisto and Io to see the sea. They had always wanted to go to the beach. As the adults rushed around her, going through plans A-Z, Callisto had watched the buzz, allowing the numbness to set in and the warmth of the blanket to smother her.

She thought about the future she would never have. The children she would never get to carry, the husband she would never marry, the awards she would never receive and for some reason, instead of feeling afraid, Callisto was relieved. Some small part of her had always known that she would never see adulthood. "This is how it ends, isn't it?" She whispered, strangely at peace. Callisto didn't want to die in this car though, with a strange man who called them friends. It was no different than that lonely hospital room. She had been alone then too, Metis was called to action, her parents were at work, and Io was G-d knows where. A nurse had come to check on her only minutes before, to give her pain medicine and then... Callisto died. Later she had learned it was only for a few minutes. She could still remember the sensation of the tag on her toe, marking her for the morgue.

She wasn't going to die in this trunk, she wasn't going to die again, because this time, Callisto had a life worth living.

Callisto wasn't nervous or afraid, she was angry. "Let me out!" There was somewhere she needed to be, people she needed to talk to. "Let me out of here!" One of the wires around her wrists snapped, allowing her to pull her wrist free. She started working on the ones around her ankles, pulling and tugging until finally, her ankles were loose enough to pull out. The car stopped, the trunk opened. Callisto unzipped the bag and lunged, suddenly dropped. Her hips both came out of place, but she pushed them back in. The Game Master ran, he was fast, but Callisto had a feeling she was faster. She poured on the speed, running after him, barefoot, her clothing torn, wires still clinging to her ankles, slicing into her calves with every step. "You bastard!" She yelled, picking up a rock and tossing it at him. He tripped when the rock hit him and rolled into the sand.

Callisto leaped on top of him, scratching, hitting, using all of her weight and force and battery to pummel the Game Master. "Stop this!" He snapped, grabbing one of her wrists and pushing it back. He grabbed the other, the two at a stand still in the sand. His hood fell off, revealing his face. A mess of metal skin and human flesh, a cyborg. "Androids, I have one last order!" He broadcast, grinning viciously. "Find Callisto and-"

"I don't think so."

Lights circled them, a helicopter whirring above their heads. "Jace! Fina!" Relief flooded her, but only for a moment. The Game Master tossed her backwards into the sand and grabbed her by the hair, pushing her onto her knees. A blade was aimed at her stomach. "Move and I'll do it! I'll rip her apart, piece by piece!"

|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||

It was odd being back in Fina. But it was a comfortable kind of odd. "I still remember most things too." Io was more than happy to fill in the blanks for her. They were practically sisters now, this was how it was meant to be. Io could leave behind her useless past and become something that matters. "I'm at your side. Just don't die on me again." When Fina first learned of Minnie's fate she moped around for quite a while. But Dr. Grover was working on it and that was all they could count on for now. In the helicopter, Fina and Jace and Black Jack were closing in on the Game Master's location. "I can't wait to be finished with this." Fina sighed, not wanting to waste any more time on the Game Master. There were more important things - like taking care of Minnie!

"The Game Master's a sad fellow." Dr. Grover admitted with a sigh before they headed out. "It's my fault he started this. We have a bit of a history..." Io didn't have any sympathy for the bastard, even after learning his past. Metis didn't care either, and he had his own plans to take care of the villain. "He was my daughter's boyfriend. They were set to be married, but I thought she was too young and I did not approve." More than just a boyfriend, he was also an employee at GENOs Labs. In fact, that was how the two kids met in the first place. "He started getting sick, he was scared, so he employed my daughter into turning him into what he is now, stealing prototype technology to escape his disease."

"Naturally, he was fired after that, and I banned him from seeing my daughter ever again."

The lights blared. Jace, Fina, and Black Jack were ready to attack when the Game Master pulled his weapon on Callisto, making his threats. "Stealth Field Activate." Io muttered, becoming invisible to the naked eye while Jace and Black Jack hid her from view. "Don't even think about it." Black Jack growled. "You won't get out of here with your life if you hurt her again." Personally Io thought it was a waste of time - couldn't they just disconnect Callisto from the source to separate her from the android body? Still, she was the perfect bait to catch the Game Master regardless. "Grover is our enemy!" From his shoulders weapons appeared, what looked like cannons.

"Gotcha." Fina inched close enough to kick him and grab Callisto out of his grip, pulling her safely into the Stealth Field. "Stop getting kidnapped, a useless person like me can't save you all the time." Io muttered harshly at her twin, slinking away from the battle that was now erupting. Jace was at the forefront of the battle of course, while Black Jack provided supporting fire. "Don't take her away from me!" Game Master cried, blasters firing at everyone he could see. "We need to punish Grover together, you blind idiots, it's her fault we're all like this now!"

With brutal precision someone grabbed him from behind while he was focused on Jace and Black Jack. "Only one person's going down today." Metis pinned him down with ease. "You've done enough. Give it up."

Beep.

"If I can't have her, then none of you can either!"

Fina knew what it was before it happened. A self destruct strong enough to kill everyone in range of three hundred feet. "Get down!" Io shouted, pulling Callisto behind her to try to protect her from the blast to come.

Pulled from his grasp, she was safe at last. Callisto would have drawn a heavy breath, but alas, androids didn't breathe. "You came," she smiled instead. "You were never useless, not to me, not to anyone." She wished she could express to Io just how useful she were, but now was not the time nor place to get sentimental. Metis was here too, how he had found them, Callisto had no idea. He held on to the thug, ready to drag him to jail. Instead, the Game Master threatened to blow them all up. Io shoved her away, shielding Callisto with her own body. A gun shot rang in the air, the Game Master crumpled into the sand, dead before he could detonate himself. "It's done," Metis said quietly, covered in blood and brain matter. He didn't seem to mind, a man of war, easily dusting himself off and pulling the body out of range in case it did explode after all.

Jace hurtled towards them, pulling Callisto in her arms, hugging her tightly. "You're safe, you're alright now." She murmured into Callisto's hair, drawing her in as close as she could. "Jace, you lied to me." Callisto said softly, Jace stiffened. "You promised you would protect me." They were pulled out of their reverie by Metis, who grabbed onto Callisto and yanked her free of Jace's hug. "Metis, what are you doing here?" Callisto asked, shocked to see him. He had wiped off the blood, he smelled like salt water and cologne. "I finally found you," he held her face in his hands, not believing. "But you're not you anymore, are you?"

It came as a shock, a sudden realization. "No... I'm not the same Callisto I was before." She admitted with a whisper. "I can't just leave with you, even if that's what you want." He nodded, his shoulders slumping. "I figured you would say something like that, so I'm not leaving either." Their parents had a new baby, Metis had since moved out, he needn't return to them, although he did have to return to the military once his leave was up. "Callisto, there's something you need to know."

"I know already," she said quietly. This wasn't going to end with a neat little bow. "No, you need to hear it," Jace grabbed her hand, squeezing tightly. "Minnie is... Minnie was shot." Her limbs stiffened, her eyes widened. "Fina, what are you doing here? You need to go to her!" Callisto ripped herself away from Metis and Jace. "Let's go see Minnie," she locked their fingers together and started walking through the sand, the low battery icon flickering behind her eyes. "Uh-oh," her knees buckled and she fell forward, head first, into the sand. "Um, I might need to charge." Callisto smiled apologetically, Jace running over to lift her up. She threw Callisto over her shoulder and glanced at Fina.

"Let's go see Minnie." In the distance, an explosion sounded, sand and water flying upwards in a brilliant fiery display.

Io clung to Callisto, as if never wanting to let go of her. The blast went off, Metis was the one who dealt the final blow like a grim reaper of death, taking the blood and gore without a single bit of remorse. The Game Master was gone, the game was over, there was nothing to worry about anymore. "Except Minnie." Fina reminded her, anxious now again. It was nice to have her back, Io wouldn't let her get hurt ever again. "We're safe now." Io confirmed, Dane flew the helicopter closer, the boy knew how to drive pretty much any vehicle in existence. "Let's get back to GENOS and see Minnie." Io shot a glare at Metis, letting Callisto go to Jace for the time being. "Are you coming?" She asked pointedly. Metis sighed. "Yeah, I will."

Back at the GENOS Labs, Dr. Grover was there to welcome them. "Jace, Black Jack, can you two tend to Hymnos?" Jace was the one hwo had the antidote after all. The reason Grover didn't use it on Hymnos sooner was because there was a risk the Game Master could simply adapt the virus and edit it to be able to beat the antidote. "Let me see Minnie right now." Fina was frantic, the slowly growing panic getting ever stronger. "I need to see her!" Dr. Grover gave her a soft smile. "The operation was a success." Grover confirmed it. "She is now an android." She gestured for Io and Callisto and Metis to follow in. Metis seemed a bit awkward and Grover had to make sure he was sterile before letting him in.

Past the doors Io found herself face to face with a new android, with translucent hair and eyes that glowed brighter than the sky. Elegant looking she was, but cold as well. "Hello, my name is Nyx, Project Orion." Her eyes showed no hint of recollection. "And you are Fina, I presume." Fina grabbed her wrist, eyes wide and afraid. "You remember me? What else do you remember? Aren't you Minnie?" No, there was something wrong, something didn't make sense. "No, I simply looked up your Registration Number." Nyx said, voice like ice. "I am a new Angel Model, my job is to protect the weak."

Metis nudged Grover, eyes narrowed like those of a hunter. "What's wrong with her? Why do Cali and Io remember but she doesn't?" Fina was almost whimpering as she clung to Nyx who did not know what was going on. "Her brain was damaged from lack of oxygen when we tried to stabilize her." Grover admitted weakly. "She doesn't remember anything anymore, and she'll probably never regain those memories ever again." If an android would die, Fina would be in a puddle of her own tears. "That witch." Io muttered, lethal intent in her voice. "I'll kill her, she didn't save Minnie at all."

Callisto stood back, allowing Fina to rejoice in her reunion with Minnie. It was short lived, however, considering Minnie couldn't recall who she was. "Memory loss," she gasped, Metis awkwardly placing a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to comfort her. An angel model, so she was another combat type? Not an idol unit, which was Minnie's dream. "Wait a second," Callisto suddenly had an idea. "What if we backed her brain up, her real brain, onto Hymnos's network?" She turned to look at Dr. Grover, knowing that the tech genius might not like the idea. "I hadn't thought of that," she admitted. "Nyx, lay back down." Dr. Grover ordered, connecting wires to her neck. Callisto shivered, recalling the sensation of the Game Master forcing wires into her spine.

"Quite frankly, I think if you don't fix her memory, Reiss will come after you too." Dr. Grover said nothing as she worked, her fingers flying. "Nyx, enter rest mode." Grover ordered, "Callisto, please go check into a maintenance bay." Metis's grip on her tightened. "I'll go with you," he insisted. "Fina, if you need me, you know where to find me. Alright? Callisto asked gently, wanting to make certain that Io was going to be okay before she left. It was clear that Fina was devastated, but for now, Dr. Grover needed to remain alive if they wanted to keep all of their bodies, human and android. Metis escorted her out, two security units moving to take their place, in case Fina tried something. Jace was busy, occupied with the Hymnos network. "Do you know the way?" Metis asked, no longer wearing the bloodied jacket that had the Game Master's bits on it.

"I do," they passed by the human docks, Metis stiffening. "Metis, what's wrong?" Callisto asked, her footsteps ceasing. "You've been acting strange," she tilted her head to the side, blue hair sparkling in the light. "I've been acting strange? You're not the one who had to find out his sisters were turned into androids!" She took a step back, recoiling. "Sorry, I didn't mean to yell," Callisto nodded, she was going to say something when she noticed something odd. "Where's my body?" The tank that she normally occupied was empty, the wires hanging loosely from the tank, waiting to be reconnected. "Metis, where is my body?" She asked again, panicking slightly. It couldn't be walking around, detached from consciousness, could it?

"Callisto," Metis spoke softly. "You..." he bit down on his lip, his words were soft as he explained, gentle. He used the most simple terms for it, but there was no easy way to explain it. "If you were to return to your human body, it's likely you won't ever wake up."

Callisto sunk to her knees. She had known in her heart that something had happened, but not to this extent. "So I'm an android... forever?"

"No!" He flung himself down beside her, his arms wrapping around her. "Not forever, just until we find a solution, a better doctor, a better hospital, there has to be hope. For now, your body is being cryogenically frozen to stop the cancer from progressing further." She laughed, she was a human ice pop now. "I... I have to go... I have to check in to the mechanical bay." She rose, her legs unsteady. Metis stayed on the floor, tears springing to his eyes. He should tell their parents, they deserved to know.

Jace found her along the way, staring up at the wall. "Cali?" Jace asked, no doubt she had repaired Hymnos. "You okay?" Callisto blinked, wiping her eyes, but there were no tears, androids didn't cry. "Yeah, I-I'm fine." It was a lie that made her stomach clench. Jace took her hands in her own, "he told you, didn't he?" She nodded slowly and warm arms encircled her. "It's going to be alright, we'll be androids together."

"It's weirdly comforting when you say it like that."

"Callisto," Jace took her at an arms length, "I think... I'm falling in love with you." Their lips brushed, soft, warm, inviting. Somehow, Callisto felt as though this was meant to be. "I think... I love you too."

❝Going around in circles, just bring it all to ruin.❞

|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||

"Welcome to the Reiss Family, Fina. You are our new android, and you will serve us and my will at all times." Lady Reiss smiled, her white sunhat tipped as a show of respect. Fina nodded dully, eyes devoid of life. "Yes, Master." She bowed to Azariah Reiss on her throne. "I will serve your wishes, as is my job." She had just been transferred to her place of work and her new home after having been first calibrated by Dr. Grover at the GENOS Labs. "Would you like to see my daughter?" Fina hardly reacted. "If that is your command, Master." Escorted by Lady Reiss, Fina was taken to another room, decorated with lots of white drapery and decorations and a white bed with a girl dressed in that same light sheen.

That girl was so breathtakingly beautiful and yet so tragic, already Fina could sense there was something wrong about the angel. "Oh, the new android." The girl made a soft sort of smile, waving a weak hand at her. "I'm Minnie. Um, would you happen to know a girl named Io? She was my friend, but she went missing." Lady Reiss's face was indecipherable and Fina shook her head, duty bound to tell the truth. "My apologies, I do not know an Io." She bowed to the girl as introduction, noticing the despair in the girl's eyes but not knowing enough about her to know what to do about it. "My name is Fina, and I will serve the Reiss family from now on." The girl nodded and held her hand out. This was a signal for a handshake and Fina accepted it. "My name is Minnie, and I hope to be good friends."

This wasn't right, this wasn't how it was supposed to be. Minnie was the light of Fina's life, Minnie was her Master and the one she loved. Even if the love wasn't returned in the same way, Fina wanted to serve Minnie until the very end of time. She always knew it was a possibility that she'd lose her Angel, but she didn't think it would happen so soon. Dane was crying and Fina wished that she could. Callisto brought up a possibility that might save her and Grover decided to give it a shot. Nyx went into reset mode, compliant like any android was. "Fina, do you think it will bring her back?" Fina's hands were balled into fists at her side, staring intently at the now sleeping Nyx. "Let's just trust it will work for now, Fina." In her head, Io was fuming as usual.

Callisto seemed to want to comfort her but Fina wasn't sure what help she could do. "Don't bother her, Cali has her own problems to deal with right now." Io knew from Metis's face that he was going to have to give her the bad news about her body, about her chance to live as a human ever again. It was a tragedy in and of itself, but there was nothing Io or Fina could do about that other than murder, which Io would quietly put aside for now.

"What's the plan, Dane?" Io was speaking now, referring to him. Fina wanted to quietly mourn so she went inactive for the time being. Io knew she couldn't help her - only Minnie could. "We need to tell Lady Reiss about this, don't we?" Dane frowned, wringing his hands in distress. "I'm afraid." He admitted, looking clearly into her own eyes. "What will Lady Reiss do? She loved Minnie, even if Minnie hates her. But if she were to find out, she might go after Grover next." And by now it was clear that humans inside an android did not follow the rule of not harming humans.

Io grimaced, shaking her head. "I'd rather not have to kill Grover, no matter how much I want to." The security edged closer as if threatening her but Io paid them no mind. She was stronger than them, she could take them out right now if they started anything. "Since Minnie paid her dream to be able to save her." Which reminded her, there was something Io needed to say. She knew Minnie well enough that she had a feeling this was how it was.

So Io found Jace and Callisto together, missing the kiss but having a feeling something like that had happened regardless. "Callisto. It's probably a stupid request of mine, but..." Minnie as Nyx probably wouldn't be able to be an idol again, on the off chance her memories did come back. "Minnie would have wanted to pass on her dream of being an idol to you. You can choose to do it or whatever, it's up to you." She sighed, looking warily at Jace. "I'll talk to Reiss about canceling the mission to kill the two of you. Callisto probably would rather we pretend to get along." A temporary truce, would Jace accept it?

❝I am the one who ruined me; I did it myself.❞

|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||

"I don't know if I want to be an idol," Callisto admitted quietly. She had always wanted a peaceful existence, "but if Minnie wants me to do it... then I guess I can't turn it down." She looked at her feet, her shoes had been lost somewhere between the trunk and the beach. "She'll be alright," Callisto was confident about it. Jace remained silent, she had no opinion on this matter considering it was outside of her expertise. It stung to realize that Io would not be going home with her, but rather, return to Reiss's side. Even as androids, they were still sisters, weren't they? "I have to go check in for maintenance," Callisto excused herself. "I'm going with her," Jace announced, their hands brushing as Callisto walked out. "Fina, or Io, whichever one you are, even if you've gotten over her, your sister still needs you." Jace said softly before making her exit.

Callisto checked into the maintenance bay, removing her torn clothing and putting on one of the white robe that was provided. "This doesn't hurt, does it?" She asked Jace as she lay down on the docking table. "No, it sometimes tickles, but I'll be right by your side the whole time." Jace promised. This couldn't be any worse than anything she had been through, or at least, Callisto thought so. A maintenance unit came to make the repairs, fixing the cuts in her silicone skin and then checking her systems to rid any bugs or triggers that the Game Master had left her. "Your repairs are finished," Jace had disappeared somewhere along the way, no doubt to go grab a chocolate pudding, her favorite snack. Callisto sat up, looking around for her clothing, but they had been tossed out considering how shabby they were.

"See? I told you it wouldn't be bad," Jace walked through the double doors, totting a plastic bag full of clothing and two chocolate puddings. Callisto got dressed, donning the over sized sweater and leggings that Jace had brought her. "Soft," Callisto murmured, running her fingers over the fabric. "Here, I brought this too." Callisto had charged while undergoing maintenance, but the pudding was appreciated. "Thanks," she smiled, opening up the lid. "Want to go sit upstairs with the other?" Callisto shook her head, no, she didn't really want to. "I don't want to look at Metis right now and Fina has things on her mind with Minnie and all." Jace nodded in understanding, "Besides, it'll be easier to say goodbye if we're not always together."

After all, Fina intended to go back to Reiss's compound. Dane too, no doubt, would go back to the Reiss mansion and live the lif of a sheep. Callisto wasn't sure what she would do, whether it was take up the mantel of an idol once more or try to live a relatively quiet life as a human within the body of an android. Minnie wanted her to carry the mantel, but did Callisto have what it took to make the heart's of the people soar?

Io gnawed on her silicone lip, glowering at Jace. "I know." But her hands were tied, she couldn't just go where she pleases. "But Fina needs to stay with Minnie... or Nyx. And even moreso, Lady Reiss is my Master." She wasn't allowed to just abandon her duties, whether she was Io or Fina it didn't matter. Her eyes were fixed on Jace. "Cali is better off in your hands, Jace. I'm just a screwup that fails at everything. I couldn't even protect Minnie from her fate, so it has to be you. You have to be Cali's protector." She allowed Jace to walk off and stared at the ground in a bit of a trance. "Io." Fina's tone was like a safe haven. "You didn't fail me, you're not useless." But she was, because Fina had to experience death because Io wasn't strong enough to beat both Black Jack and Jarvis. In the end, she couldn't do anything.

Upstairs, Io returned to Nyx's room where Dane was watching quietly, Hymnos had her eyes closed and looked as if she were concentrating, and of course Dr. Grover was there, waiting expectantly. Nyx was in rest mode, inactive, but hopefully if by some magic a prayer could be answered then maybe Minnie could come back from beyond her reach. "Let me have control." Fina requested and Io happily handed it over. This here was Fina's job more than it was Io's. "How is she?" Fina asked, about both Hymnos and Nyx. "The upload was a success." The newly de-virused Hymnos was back in action, doing her best to provide support. "Minnie Reiss's brain is safely within me." Hymnos offered that same clinical smile of hers she was used to, her voice pleasant to the ear of any android.

"So does that mean it'll work?" Dane asked, voice full of hope. Fina looked at him with shared worry, grasping his hand in some semblance of comfort. "Will Minnie be okay?" Fina asked, voice warbling slightly. "There has been too much damage to her brain." Hymnos explained at Grover's gesture to continue explaining. "She safe within me but now dormant. I will give her a pleasant dream and slowly attempt to repair the damage. Estimated time of repairs: Indefinite." Dane's face fell and Fina grimaced, looking away. "I... I see." She took a deep breath, trying to control the grief growing in her heart. Dane squeezed her hand far too tight but she did not notice it.

"You may wake now." Dr. Grover declared and Nyx's eyes opened. There was a brief hint of recognition but it went away quickly. "Hello again. Why do you not look happy?" It was going to take time for Nyx to learn more organic methods of speech just like it did for most androids. "Let's get you home. Your... Master is waiting." Dane looked as pale as a ghost and bit his lip. "I don't want to serve Lady Reiss." Nyx complained, glowing eyes bright. "But if that is my order I will obey."

❝I am the one who ruined me; I did it myself.❞

|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||

"Just think about it," Jace said quietly, "propose a reassignment." The combat unit took her leave, returning to Callisto's side. The two of them ate pudding quietly, sitting on a bench outside in the snow. "I want to see it," Callisto said suddenly, barely having touched her pudding. Jace took the cup from her, digging her spoon in happily. "See what?" She asked, finishing the pudding before it froze. "My body," Jace stiffened, then slowly, rose to her feet. "Alright, I'll take you to it." She held out a hand in offering and Callisto took it, grateful as Jace led her. Would Callisto recognize herself? Could she recall what her own features looked like? Jace held her hand, leading her back inside, safe from the cold and snow. It melted on her skin, but Callisto hardly felt the cold.

Black Jack tailed them, their shadow, trailing behind the two as Jace pushed her palm onto a reader and scanned her retina, "it's a sterile room." They stood within a second chamber, a sanitizing mist spraying them down, the door wouldn't budge until the process had ended. Callisto stepped within the threshold, it was empty now, but earlier it had been buzzing with doctors. There were machines surrounding what almost looked like a large glass cylinder. The familiar hum of IV's and drip of saline was almost comforting. Callisto walked up to the glass, pressing a hand against it. Within was a girl dusted with ice crystals, the rise and fall of her chest forced by the humming devices.

Callisto did not recognize herself. Her blonde hair was gone, her lips were pale blue, a tube snaking out of it. She was thin and fragile, as though a gust of wind that was a bit too strong could break her in two. There were no clothes, only bandages, wrapped around her bald head, decorating her abdomen almost as though it were a costume for Halloween. Someone cried out, Callisto's knees buckled, the sound had come from her. Jace stood by the door, watching the pulse of the machines that pumped life into her, circulating blood, breath, removing impurities, pushing toxic medicine to kill the cancer for good. If this fragile being died, this vessel would. Callisto would be truly and utterly dead.

Artificial tears flowed from the ducts in her eyes, dancing down her cheeks. She looked back up at her body, an odd sense of peace overcoming her. Callisto rose and wiped her cheeks with the heels of her hand. "Okay," she whispered, a shaky smile coming onto her lips. "I'm ready," Jace nodded, taking Callisto's hand once more. "Are you sure?" She asked, tucking a strand of blue hair behind Callisto's ear. Cali nodded, it would do them no good to stand here and cry. "Yes, I'm certain."

❝Going around in circles, just bring it all to ruin.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#B21212 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #1485CC

|| City of the Dead|| Eurielle ||

”Please be happy.” Hymnos said. “I will be watching over you.”

Back at the Flock, Fina found herself bowing in front of Lady Reiss, head lowered in apology. This was her fault, and no matter how hard it must be for her it was her duty to explain what went wrong and why. "Minnie was shot protecting Dr. Grover.” She said. Dane was keeping Nyx in the lobby just outside of Lady Reiss’s throne room so Fina could privately tell Lady Reiss the bad news. "My body was dead at the time, and my human self, Io, was unable to stop Metis from firing his gun. He was trying to kill Dr. Grover and take Callisto back.” It was thanks to Io Fina was able to maintain her composure. The truth was she felt bleak, empty, hopeless. What was she supposed to do now that Minnie was gone? Sure she was dormant, sure she was sleeping within Hymnos who was surely giving her pleasant dreams. But it still meant Fina was going to have to live without the light of her existence at her side. It made her so happy to wake up and just be by Minnie’s side.
What was she supposed to do now without her?

"I’m sorry, Lady Reiss. I truly am a failure. If you wish to scrap me, I would happily oblige.” Lady Reiss’s mouth was set in a firm downwards curve and her eyes were hidden by the sunhat she always wore. “I see.” Her voice was impossible to discern, even for Fina. "However, Dr. Grover was able to… ensure she didn’t die. She wouldn’t wake, so there was only one option left.” That was the cue for Dane to open the door. He gave a sheepish bow, clearly depressed himself at the loss. Even Jarvis looked solemn as he saw Nyx enter, eyes glowing as bright as the light left behind when Minnie disappeared.

“My name is Nyx.” Nyx bowed to Lady Reiss. “I am a new unique model, an Angel Model, to serve and protect.” Fina could almost see angel wings behind her shoulder plates. “And what is your purpose?” Lady Reiss asked severely. “What can you do?” Nyx stood upright, spreading her arms to reveal a series of canisters hidden inside. “As an Angel Unit, I can ensure humans are not harmed when in a combat situation. There are gas canisters I can spread that are mask-permeable to put humans to sleep so they cannot interfere in android affairs.” She opened her shoulder blades and some sort of jet wings revealed themselves. “I can fly to better spread the drugs. They are harmless, of course, I can assure you.” Her hands folded and turned into gamma blasters. “I have weapons to assist in combat, though these are all I have.” Not as strong as Fina’s railguns or vibroblade, but still viable.

Nyx put her blasters together and then a strange hum came. From the hum a circle formed and then turned into a front-facing barrier made of gamma energy. “And lastly, I can create a shield to fully block attacks from one direction for as long as my battery lasts.” She was Nyx, the Angel Trumpet, built to serve and protect on the battlefield. “So you can’t bring my Minnie back?” Lady Reiss’s voice was different. No – not different. But for the first time in Fina’s memory, she was emotional. Nyx shook her head. “I know she is my source human, but I cannot. My deep condolences, Master.”

“I need time. Please leave me for now.”

As they were leaving, Jarvis interrupted Fina. “I have this from Charles Palladion.” He transmitted a file into Fina’s data stores. She felt sick when she knew what it was. It was Requiem, Minnie’s first album, the final version. “What do you want to do with it? Fina knew exactly what to do. She first sent a copy to Lady Reiss as a last memory, and then to Callisto, Minnie’s chosen successor.

That moment when you realize your character is 23 and everyone else is just a baby nugget O_O

Re: The Eden Project

    I hope you don't mind that I gave the meeting place a room number, I just needed a place where I could put him.

Re: The Eden Project

I think that's fine. As soon as you're done we can start.

Re: The Eden Project

I think I will manage, and in that case I think I would like to properly reserve the character!

Though, as for the type of demon I was thinking along the lines of a ‘Dybbuk’ demon? As in, they could possess people and other creep stuff in that sense, if that is allowed?
