Introduction
These gifted individuals were thrown away, shunned from most. And in turn, the family and friends of these individuals were harmed as well. As a result, many of those with the gift were removed from the everyday society, whether by choice or by force, and placed in a more contained environment where they could live a life free of problems. At least, that was what it was made to look like on paper, and that was what the residents of the newly created city were made to think. It was never made one hundred percent clear who was funding the creation of the location, though many suspected the UN, and the exact location of the city was unknown to those other than the outsiders employed to keep it under control and the many regulars that chose to live their in hopes of one day obtaining powers of their own. Even to the residents of the city, it's location was a complete mystery. Temperatures ranged from absurdly hot to absurdly cold, which was extremely odd for a stationary location.
Mysteries aside, the city did seem rather normal. Those under the age of eighteen were forced to attend classes during the day, while those over the age were required to work jobs. The classes were designed in order to not only give those denied a regular education just that, but to also help with improving their abilities. A little bit odd for a city that was supposed to be their utopia, where they could live normally, but nobody asked questions, and those who did were usually deemed crazy.
While those over eighteen could stay out as late as they want, those underneath the age limit have a curfew of 10pm so that they won't be too tired for classes. In order to enforce this curfew, there is a disciplinary committee composed of reliable, young adult, power users that patrol the city to make sure all minors are in their places. The committee also exists to prevent strife between city residents, but they fail in this regard, often completely ignoring the problems at hand, usually because they aren't enough to stop it.
The city is divided up into 6 districts which have different living conditions proportionate to the overall wealth of the residents. Sector 1 usually has the poorest living conditions, while 6 has the best, with large homes and well kept streets. Where each person is place depends on their income, which can be a result of working in the city, a source of money outside the city like family, or in rare cases, companies will give support to a resident that they see potential in, thus funding everything they do.
The special residents themselves are ranked based on performance and usefulness, designated with a number between 1 and 567 (the exact number of students in the city at the time of writing). The closer you are to 1, the stronger you're supposed to be. The higher closer you are to 1, the more you're feared. With some of the more... ill-mannered residents, this ranking system has created a survival-of-the-fittest scenario, where members will pray on each other in order to get their rank up, since every defeat drops your rank substantially. Those with higher ranks are usually sponsored too, so there are many reasons to lead people down this path.
The fact that those in control keep such a comprehensive list implies that they are constantly keeping tabs on everyone, maybe through cameras, maybe not. The fact remains that there are just too many mysteries surrounding the city, to both thus that live within and those that live outside. The "Advents" - as these people were dubbed after the city was named "Advent City", lived peacefully for the most part, until a series of mysterious happenings began that made them start questioning the intentions of those behind the city.

The delicately placed, white sheets upon the bed began to stir before a pair of legs suddenly dropped over the side. They were bare, a pair of navy blue, cotton pajama shorts just barely covering the thighs of the girl. Her arms raised into the air suddenly, before one became crooked in the direction of the other to stretch, a soft yawn escaping the lips of the black haired asian girl, while showing an impressive pair of fangs. She stood up and wandered over to the full body mirror at the foot of her bed. She stretched again, lifting her pajama top to show her navel in the process. Something danced in the background, the extension of her body that made sleeping on her back impossible. The reptilian tail flew back and forth, cringing at the stretch before following it's owner into the bathroom.
About half an hour later, the girl emerged from the front door of her dormitory room, dressed neatly in her school uniform. She wouldn't dare attend class without her navy blue skirt and jacket, else she'd be in deep trouble. It was a Japanese style uniform, which suited her just fine. Her braided twin-tails danced back and forth as the click-clack of her dress shoes sounded against the marble hallway floor. As she passed by her peers, they barely gave her a glance, not that she minded. There were a lot of powers in the city, but very few instigated permanent physical changes such as... say, a large tail protruding out from beneath one's skirt. She'd gotten used to the neglect, though.
Her green eyes met with her reflection in the door. She could see the blue of the water fountain mounted in the courtyard outside, which meant she'd be free of any complications soon. As her hand reached for the door, she felt the presence of another hand on her shoulder. "Hey there, Fuuka. Time for class already? But you haven't paid the fee for being in my presence!" Fuuka's eyes shot to the left as she craned her head in the same direction. If there was anything the lizard girl hated, it was girls that had their egos so far up their butt that they felt the need to crap it out onto everybody else's lap.
The girl behind her was one Samantha Wiles, both her senior in age and overall rank. Ranking in the top 20, she saw it fit to demand money from the other girls in the dormitory just for living under the same roof as her. The sad part was that they weren't provided any choice in the matter, since she would thoroughly thrash anyone who didn't bother. The thrashing was never done in public though, so the authorities never had any proof despite the city being monitored nonstop. "..." Fuuka considered her potential response to this witch. She had no intention of speaking against the woman, not if she wanted the peace she had obtained to remain. Yet, one day this girl was really going to get it. "...I'll give it to you later." She walked away, not even giving Samantha a glance as she wandered out the door.
She'd get over it.

Quickly hopping into the large shower she turned the water to as warm as would go, steam coating the mirrors and window within the bathroom as Marie took her time waking up. Not to soon after she'd gotten into the shower, she was stepping out again, hot water beading off her fair skin. Her long jet black hair sticking to her, reaching down to a little past her shoulders. She dried quickly, allowing her hair to air dry as she dressed and readied herself for her day. She wasn't exactly running late, but time wasn't on her side. Placing her glasses on her face she decided she was ready for the day.
Arriving at the fifth Sectors Academy Marie frowned. She had barely made it in time. Looking the pristine academy up and down the place could be much much worse but she still didn't like it. She had always hated school, it required too much work. But she still couldn't break her vow of neutrality she had made when she had come to Advent City. It was this place that had made her life that much better and it was the promise of all those things being taken away from her if she didn't rank well enough that made her work that much harder. On the bright side at least she had a sponsor meeting with Win-tech that would get her out of class later.
Avoiding eye contact with all the other students she walked briskly to her desk, keeping her vision in a straight line as she sat down with a straight back. She wasn't much for conversation and just preferred to get the show on the road. It may have seemed cold but it also kept the other students from harassing her, she couldn't afford dropping any ranks right now. Making herself seem like a predator and not prey kept most from picking fights with her for ranking and it also meant that no one realized how physically helpless she truly was. Zoning out as she waited for class to start she hooked into the schools surveillance system and began to look around. It was amazing what things people sometimes did when they thought no one was watching. It was also amazing some of the things Marie knew because of this.

Owen smirked as the charges were read off, knowing that he wouldn't be placed in jail for all the, what he would call, minor charges. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and began to breathe in the deadly fumes of the smoke. His smirk turned into a grin when Stars's glare became filled with more anger, and placed his hand on the pummel of his sword. Stars paled when he did this, and began to shuffle his papers nervously, not wanting to start a fight with a berserker.
Sighing heavily, and pouting slightly from Stars's nervousness, Owen went back to sucking on the deadly fumes of his cigarette. "I wish you would stop smoking, Owen," Stars muttered, "They'll kill you in the end." He glared at the sergent, making him flinch visibly. "Stars, you know how I need something to keep me calm. This is it, even if it will lead me to a pair of iron lungs." They shared a small laugh, already knowing that the sergent has a pair of mechanical lungs from 20 years of smoking.
Stars cleared his voice suddenly, bringing out a manilla envelope with a large red 'CLASSEFIED' stamp on the front, and passed it to Owen. "Whats this," he asked, looking at his sergent and the envelope. He tore into it and grimaced at the papers. The image of a girl glared up at him, making him smirk. He raised an eyebrow, "Win-Tech?" The sergent merely nodded, his arms crossed over his chest. "And what is my assignment this time?"
"Protection detail. Her address and school is in the file. We have already contacted the school, and they've agreed to allow you, and your sword, entrance to their grounds. However," he raised a finger, "you must keep the sword in its sheath, unless you, or your charge, are mortally threatened, understand?"
Owen glared and grunted his affirmation, and waved his hand at Stars. "Aye," was all he said, as he took up his sword, the papers, and left the building. Once outside, he grimaced, openly disgusted as he stared down at the papers. "Great," he grumbled, "Babysitting."

He grabbed one of his two bowls from the drying rack, a spoon, raisin bran from the cabinet and quart of milk from the fridge. After placing the items of his dining table that doubled as his deck, he flipped open the small laptop and open his email app while pouring the raisin bran in his bowl. It was mostly spam, which he deleted, but one was from his sponsor. Icarus took a spoonful of the brown flakes as he opened the message, he then proceeded to choke on his spoon.
Stone-soul was giving him one week to raise his rank or lose his sponsorship. Icarus had no desire to battle so he closed his laptop and finished his breakfast. After putting his bowl in the sink and taking a quick shower, he put on uniform, gray pants and a button up shirt. Grabbing his messenger bag from the hook next to the door along with his jacket and scarf, he decided to get some fresh air before class.
Icarus locked his door and pocketed his keys. Turning around he leaped over the railing to the landing in front of his dorm room. Blue light forming hexagon panels as he walked, two stories off the ground, taller than most buildings in sector 2 aside from the school and other government run places. Sighing at the choices before him, he pulled his goggles out from the pocket in his jacket and put them on, he needed a rush to clear his head.
Icarus began to climb higher and higher until he reached roughly 4 stories and spread out his arms leaning forward. The blue light around his feet disappeared and he fell, the wind blowing his hair back, emptying his mind of his worries for the moment.
As he grew closer to the ground his feet began to glow again, ten feet from the ground the panels formed his head was two feet from the ground before he stopped.
He was floating upside down just within the sector 2 school grounds, he abrupt appearance scared a few nearby student who hadn't seen him do this before. One person sighed, it was a fellow class mate. Jericho, the class president, stared at Icarus until he flipped and landed on the school grounds. "Sorry..." Icarus bowed and headed off to his class room. Taking his seat in the back corner next to the window, he hooked his bag to his desk and slid his goggles down around his neck. Thoughts of battles and ranking slowing coming back as half listened to the teacher, he just wanted it to be over so he could get to the Kendo club that was after school.

Walking relaxedly down the street towards the office building in which he worked, Alexander idly sent a few illusions flittering down across the street, simple butterflies and a cougar rushing down the street. With a nod towards the man who had challenged him to a combat yesterday, Alexander brought four copies of himself around him, each making slightly different motions at different times, providing slight confusion as to which was the real physical Alexander.
*Should be another boring day, perhaps I should fight somebody today, mess around with my rank a bit to see what it's like. I'll flip a coin during lunch.* Alexander reached his building and sighed dejectedly at the boring turn his life had taken.

He shoved his bed sheets to the side and swung his legs over the edge of his mattress. His left leg made him groan. The skin was gone from his ankle up to his mid-thigh, and the muscle around his knee was wasn’t there, revealing the bone of his patella and where the thigh and calf bones connected behind it. He stood up gingerly and his leg seemed able to handle his weight just fine, and then made his way to the window to open it. Some of the butterflies fluttered out, though most stayed within his room.
It didn’t take him long to shower, brush his teeth, get dressed, and cook himself breakfast. The lunch he made last night went into his side bag with a few notebooks and a text book. Altan hooked the bag over his shoulder, shoveled his eggs, hash browns, and toast onto a paper plate, and headed out the door.
The residents of the dorm were used to seeing Altan walk and eat. He rarely woke up early enough to eat at home. He nodded at the few people he saw; this dorm held students of roughly the same rank, so no one of better rank would bully those of lesser rank. That didn’t mean there weren’t fights: the students knew that everyone around them was close to their skill level and ranks were changing all the time. Altan himself didn’t seek to improve his rank – he found that while it fluctuated he generally stayed in the same area. His sponsor didn’t care about where he was in the hierarchy, and he found that a lot more fights were picked with him if he improved his rank.
As the last bite of eggs went into his mouth he folded up the paper plate and dumped it into one of the trashcans in front of the school. He had gotten there earlier than normal – the school bell hadn’t rung yet. Kids – mostly younger than him – were rushing through the hallways to their classes, scared of the punishment if they were late.
Altan sat down at his desk just as the bell rang, pleased that he had made it on time. A gold butterfly landed on the desk of the girl next to him. She glanced at it, then shooed it away gently. After he watched the insect for a moment he reached into his bag to pull out a notebook and a pen, prepared to write notes.

"Hey! Taily! What the hell do you think you're doing!?" The familiar voice from earlier called behind her in the foyer of the school - complete with a fountain in the center, lines with lockers for all the students. Cocking her head around a bit just in time to feel a hand pull violently on her tail, which in turn made her yelp, the girl's lizard eyes set upon Samantha once again, who looked more than a little pissed off. Maybe she didn't get over it after all? "I asked for my money! You don't have the authority to just put it off!"
"Don't have any." Fuuka replied coldly, still looking back with a blank stare. In truth though, her heart was beating faster. She loathed it when other people touched her tail, particularly when it was with ill-intent. It was kind of like someone pulling on your hair, but way worse. "Can I go to class n-OW!" She was given her answer as the larger girl - not round large, but she was much taller and had a much more generous bust - pulled on her tail and began dragging her out of the foyer back to the outside. Naturally, the black haired teen struggled, but due to the length of her tail she could not reach in order to free herself. She was at the mercy of the woman dragging her along, and the other students just laughed as they watched the sight of the deformed girl trying to break free. Nobody helped. Obviously not. Nobody ever cared.
Eventually, they stopped outside, in a small alcove between two of the buildings on campus. It was dark, and Fuuka was backed against the wall. "I'll ask you again, nicely. Can I please have the money, Fuuka?" Samantha let go of her tail, allowing her to spin around and look at her eye to eye. A minute passed, no response. Another minute. No response. As if out of nowhere, something flew from Samantha suddenly and pierced her right arm, pinning her to the wall. "Very well, I'll just be taking it." Fuuka's heart raced, looking over at her right arm. From what she could see, there was nothing there! Her heart was racing more now, and with one burst of strength she freed her arm, a lone strand of red hair falling to the ground as she did so. "Fuuka, you don't know of my power, do you? I can use my hair as a weapon." She flipped her red locks, a few strands coming loose and suddenly straightening, shooting at the lizard girl again. She could barely see them in the darkness, and was this time struck in the leg. "So... just give me the money!"
The girl stood there in thought for a moment, before pulling her leg free of the hairs. They stung. A lot. Her breathing became heavier as she felt something welling up inside her. Luckily she had an advantage here, since Samantha wasn't aware of her power either. As she breathed, she felt the hallucinogen escape her lips, and it was only a matter of seconds before Samantha looked confused. "Wait!? Where'd you go!?" Fuuka looked for her line of a escape. If she was quiet, she could sneak to her attackers left and make a run for it! She began creeping that way, Samantha apparently shooting stray hairs at the girl's previous location in an attempt to hit her. She got to the woman's side, but suddenly she keeled over as her mind was overtaken by a headache of an intensity she had never fathomed before. Her attacker followed suite, falling over, clenching her head much like Fuuka, both girls screaming as tears streamed from their eyes due to the pain. Eventually, Fuuka blacked out.
Similar incidents had occurred all over the city at the exact same time, with the patients being transferred to a super high-tech hospital in Sector 6. When Fuuka's eyes finally reopened, she found herself looking up at a white ceiling. She was dressed in a simple hospital gown, with bloodied bandages wrapped around her head. Struggling to move her head, she found she was in a room with others dressed up the same way. Just what the hell had happened?

Making himself invisible, Alexander quietly crept out of his office and slid down the hallway, tucking himself against the wall whenever another person walked by. Alexander had a moment of panic when he got to the elevator and realized that it would look rather odd if the elevator opened by itself so he had to wait for another person to go down. When the elevator doors opened and a secretary from the floor above walked out Alexander breathed a silent thanks to whatever being was currently watching over him. The ride down the elevator was uneventful and as Alex stepped out of his office he smiled and dropped his invisibility, changing the look of his face and clothing to a random office drone as he walked down the street whistling and smiling. Halfway down the block towards his favorite sandwich shop, they accepted cash from him, Alexander felt a headache form. Frowning he shook his head slightly and kept walking, three steps later Alexander was floored by a more intense pain than any he had ever felt. Shrieking incoherently Alexander fell to the floor writing in pain, he completely lost control of his powers and random spots of light flashed around him, just before he blacked out Alexander felt his illusions drop completely revealing his drab grey suit, discolored hair, and the scar that ran across his mouth from cheek to cheek.
Alexander came to and looked about with bleary eyes, wondering what had happened. The last thing he remembered was pain and now he was in a room with a white ceiling dressed in a hospital gown. Reaching up to touch his head, Alexander felt linen cloth wrapped around his head and moving felt incredibly painful. Gritting his teeth, Alexander slowly sat up and looked at the other in the room, all of them in similar condition and dresses the same way.
*oh, this sucks..* Alexander thought to himself, hoping he hadn't pissed somebody off.

A bright light exploded behind his eyes and he gasped, grabbing at his face and forehead as the pain intensified. It felt like a knife was slowly being driven into the side of his head – a migraine but a million times worse. The girl beside him was writhing but making no sound. Screaming started around him, and it wasn’t until his throat was raw that he realized he was one of the voices. His butterflies danced along the ceiling, more agitated than he had ever seen them. One exploded in a flash of brilliant light, leaving those who witnessed it blind as if they had been staring at the sun. Acid blood splattered on the students unfortunately placed under the butterfly, and then it was just a cacophony of screams, shouts, chairs being pushed back and toppled over, explosions, odd ‘whooshing’ sounds that Altan couldn’t place. The teacher was shouting for order and trying to herd the students outside. In the doorway he paused to look back at Altan and the other three students on the floor, still screaming and crying, then stepped out and closed the door gently behind him.
Altan awoke with a throbbing inside his head, like a night after drinking too much. He rolled over and reached up to pull his pillow over his face only to find that there was no pillow. He slit one eye open and his heart skipped a beat, much like it does when you miss a step on the stairs. Painfully he opened both eyes, seeing only white walls and ceilings. A girl he didn’t know was lying across from him on a type of gurney, wearing a hospital dress with bandages around her head. They were stained red, but it didn’t look like it was still bleeding. He assumed he was in a similar condition and after a moment of focusing he realized that he was, in fact, wearing a dress.

Bored by the main areas of campus she started looking around the more deserted areas. Blinking she raised an eyebrow as she noticed two girls. A before class fight? It wasn't as if it was uncommon but it still wasn't the usual. Intrigued she minimized to just the one view of it. She vaguely recognized one of the girls as a high ranking one but the other one she didn't.
Watching as the confrontation continued Marie watched with a passive interest, the school didn't encourage fighting but it wasn't like she was about to leap to her feet telling one of the faculty about it. Unless they wanted to start paying her to do that. Like that was ever going to happen.
Snapping out of thought as a strange thing happened on the screen, the girls were collapsing. What was going on? A blast of pain struck through Marie's skull straight into the bone as she closed her eyes clutching her head. 'Just like the other girls,' was her last thought as hit the classroom floor.
'Where am I?' Marie could feel machines buzzing around her, wherever she was there was a lot of machines, it almost felt like there was a cot around her. Slowly opening her eyes the room was blurred with bright lights and incoherent images. the outline looked somewhat like a hospital. Feeling around on her face she noticed her glasses weren't on. She also felt bandages around her head. Looking at a bedside table she placed her glasses back on her face and noticed she was in a hospital gown. What had happened? And who were the people in the beds next to her?

"Computer," a blip was heard in response to his call, "Directions to Sector Five High School. In search of Marie Bremen" Another blip was heard, and his eyes were given several possible routes. Unfortunately, they were all ground and air levels. Clutching the bridge of his nose, Owen sighed and stated, "By roof top, Computer." He heard what sounded like an appologetic blip in response, and saw another path open up for him to follow. Thanking the computer, and committing the path to memory, he squatted down to the ground, and felt his energy sky rocket.
Something was wrong, but Owen didn't seem to register it before it was too late. Plain blossomed through out his skull, making him fall onto his back. He screamed a beastial scream, and clutched his skull. He felt his entire body writhe, contorting into different shapes, and his eyes glazed red. His fists pound into the roof, crumbling it into dust. He knew something was not right when he failed to fall with the building. Closing his eyes, his hands gripped metal bars, and felt them bend under his touch.
'Metal bars?' His eyes popped open, and instantly regreted it. White light greeted him, blasting his eyes with it's brilliance. He hissed silently, smashing his eyes shut, and turned into his pillow. 'Pillow?' His right eye squinted open, and he saw a white pillow, along with warped metal bars along the side of his-bed? Slowly, steadily, he pushed himself up and stared about the white room, squinting slightly. 'Hatred,' he thought to himself, as he could barely see anything more than a few feet in front of him, as the rest of the-room?- was enveloped in a white haze. "Hello?" He called out in a hoarse whisper, "Is anyone there?"

She stumbled a few steps forward, catching herself with her hand on the end of the bed. She felt heavy, and her tail was not helping with the resulting balance issues. When she finally managed to stumble out into the light of the far window which spanned down the center of the room until the door, the lizard girl felt the cold look of another in the room - someone who had just walked in from the hallway - and with it she heard the sound of a gun being cocked. She froze. Why would hospital staff be using weapons? They weren't dangerous. "Don't move, Miss..." She heard the sound of shuffling papers coming from the source of the gruff voice beside her. "Sasaki. Miss Sasaki. All of you are quarantined to your beds for now." Finally getting a look at the man, Fuuka's reptilian eyes met with a small pistol being held by a cloaked figure who was also holding a clipboard, likely with the information of everyone in the room on it.
Now, Fuuka was no expert, but cloaked figures were never any good in the anime she'd seen. "Hey! Don't point a gun at her!" A boy with long red hair piped up, wobbling out of his bed. She knew him, he was in her class. Fire formed at the tip of his fingers, but the sound of a gunshot echoed in the room before the lifeless body of the boy fell to the ground, a hole clean through his head and blood against the wall behind him. Nausea overwhelmed Fuuka as her head spun. She saw the man redirect his gun at her face once more, and she felt her fear manifest itself as her breathing became heavier. The odorless, colourless gas her body produced quickly filled the room as her breathing became heavier, meaning she'd appear invisible to anyone that could breathe it in. That didn't stop the man from delivering her dazed form a quick kick to the stomach which sent her to the ground with a thud, a yelp of pain escaping her lips.
"Anyone else want to try anything!?" The man shouted. This was when Fuuka finally heard it. There were sirens outside. Which meant... this hospital likely wasn't under regular management.
It just wasn't a good day.

*Well... This certainly sucks. I wonder what they meant by quarantine, and how many more people will be guarding this place? I'm pretty sure at least somebody will be able to see through my illusions, it would be incredibly silly of them to expect me to stay in one place against my will so they definitely have somebody to keep me inside, maybe one of my new room-mates can help.

"--sorry and want me to take your gun? Oh how sweet of you" A man bent down over the body of another. Altan guessed the man on the floor wasn't a patient, considering he wasn't wearing a dress. The man went on "One bullet missing, I guess for the dead kid on the floor. Still better than nothing, now to find a way to deal with this farking headache. Oh yeah, hey um... little girl! where you at?"
Altan looked around and didn't see anyone respond, though others lay on the tables around them. Maybe the man was crazy? He stood up gingerly, wiggling his toes and fingers. "Whats going on?"

Though I don't have any idea what kind of character I would use... Perhaps give me a day or two to work something out and I will post it up? Right now I'm leaning toward an older female, kind of like a mentor/teacher kind of person? If that's cool with you. Or I could make a student. Or I could make both. At this point I am an open book. I'll work on something though and get back to you.
