He could faintly smell the chemicals through his mask. The scientists thought he was trying to make sulfuric acid, which was true, they just didn't know he needed it to make a liquid explosive. He had already made the nitric acid needed several weeks earlier and kept it hidden in a secret compartment he added to the medical cooler. For the past ten years, the scientists have allowed him to experiment in this modified science room whenever he has helped them understand something or figure out a solution to a problem they've had. The room was filled with books the scientists thought Roland needed to know, mainly sciences like chemistry and physics. No matter what it was he ate it up. That was in the past and right now he is trying not to cause an awful chemical reaction that could burn through his skin like fire burns through paper.
“There, it's ready. Now I just need to mix the two together and hope a distraction happens soon.” He said while setting the beaker down and going to retrieve the other from the fridge. “They might not be the smartest when it comes to certain chemical mixtures, but they'll notice something is up when I don't use it in they way they thought I would. I just hope from what I saw in the other alters end up in being an incident that satisfies my needs.” He continued to mutter while mixing the two acids together. “Steady, steady. Try not to cough now or you'll end up in a body bag.” Roland nearly whispered as he corked the beaker while trying to fight off that insistent feeling in the back of his throat. Right as he set the beaker down, an alarm started to go off. He only knew it went off by the flashing red light, he had convinced the scientists to allow him to disable the alarm's noise in case of an accident happening from him jumping in surprise. “Yes, yes!” He managed to choke out before coughing/laughing, doubling over from the lack of breath and slight pain that usually came with his dreadful cough. Casually taking off his mask and spitting the phlegm that came up in a sink, he grabbed the beaker of recently made nitroglycerin. “Now if my calculations are correct, which they should be, this will be enough to destroy the door but not kill me as long as I'm behind something strong.”
He absentmindedly calculated the chances of each object he could use as cover and its chances of surviving a blast. He decided the chemical shower in the corner would be best because the glass used for those was always made to be strong and it was the farthest thing away from the door. Before getting into the shower, he grabbed a clean cloth and a glass bottle next to it. Then, satisfied, he held the nitroglycerin in his left hand and threw, quickly closing the shower door as it flew towards the locked door on the other side of the room. The explosion was rather blinding for anyone that was dumb enough to look at at and shook the entire room causing all sorts of flasks and other things to fall to the floor, Roland had a smile on his face as he imagined the shock Jealousy's face when he found out about this. As soon as everything settled, Roland quickly exited the shower and stood to the side of the gaping hole, then he took out the cloth with him to soak it with the contents of the glass bottle. Right after he discarded the empty bottle, a man in a white lab coat ran in looking around with wide eyes filled with a mix of anger and panic. Roland quickly ran up behind the man and pressed the now damp cloth to his mouth, surprise filled the victim's eyes as he passed out. “Oh Jealousy, how you hated me so. It's ironic how you're the most helpful though in my escape, all the others aren't as close to my height as you are. The guards would be much more suspicious if the lab coat didn't even reach my knees. Oh what's this, you brought all of this sedative just for me?” Roland said when he spotted a needle in the fallen man's hand. Roland took off the fallen scientists' lab coat and identification badge.
He quickly donned the coat and began to leave but before stepping out, he grabbed the needle and hid it in his coat pocket. He stepped through the smoking remains of the door and into the hallway. From here he could hear alarms going off all around him as red lights flashed while people ran about. He quickly adopted a panicked face as he started to run into a burly guard carrying what looked to be a cattle prod. “What happened here?” The guard asked as he noticed the hole in the wall and rubble scattered in the hallway. “One of the alters escaped! He made a chemical bomb and is getting away whilst we speak! He's probably heading towards the entrance to meet up with the others.” Roland babbled while looking all around, shear panic filling his voice. The guard contemplated what he had just heard with a stern look on his face. “You're probably right. Just follow me and we should get there without too much trouble.” He said before walking off back in the direction he had just come from. 'The chances of all these events going together perfectly aren't that high but it seems like the five winds of victory are blowing me along once again.' Roland thought as he followed the guard down the hall, towards long awaited freedom.
