Defense of The Ancients: Trials of the Hero

Defense of The Ancients: Trials of the Hero

0 INK

As we all know, the heroes of DOTA constantly find themselves embroiled in the struggle between the two Ancients; the Radiant and the Dire. But how do these heroes interact? We know of their pasts, but how do they live out their lives now?

Introduction

Why fight? We hear the call of the Ancients, as all creatures do, but we are not mindless slaves like the poor unfortunate creatures who "run the lanes" as it were, so why do it?

We all have our reasons, I suppose. Some seek the thrill of battle. Others seek to settle old grudges and seek vengeance, whilst even more seek to fulfill their own goals or the goals of their masters.

My name is Auroth. I am one of the few remaining Eldwurms and contributors to the Eddas. I have lived upon this earth for so long that I lose track of the days. I have always heard the call of the ancient Dire, but it is only recently, upon needing inspiration to overcome a creative slump, that I have decided to respond to it. Though I can handle myself rather well upon the fields of battle, there is a gnawing at the back of my mind, telling me that I must stop getting so distracted with "being a hero", whatever that is supposed to mean. Regardless of this, that is my motivation for fighting.

Image

There is one whose motivations......puzzle, nay, maybe even concern me. His name is Rubick, The Grand Magus, who chooses to affiliate himself with the Radiant. I have battled with him many a time, and though at first it seemed that he had entered the fray merely on a whim, out to prove his superiority among wizardkind, but now..........now he seems troubled. Withdrawn from the battles and the grind of the lanes. He seems like he's searching for something, desperately trying to glean knowledge from somewhere before something bad happens. I've never seen him worried, until now.

Image

Maybe it will be the exploits of Rubick that restore my Eddas writings to their former glory. Maybe it will be the exploits of others.

Maybe it will be you who I write about next.

Whatever happens, I know only one thing.

I must get back to writing.

• I am the GM of this roleplay. It will be me that approves all characters (I often will because I’m just that nice); any stalemates, conflicts or difficult decisions that arise will be resolved by me in whatever way I see fit. I won’t just straight up delete posts that I don’t like (as I’ve often seen a GM do), but I will try to resolve these issues through negotiations via private message, so please be cooperative.

• Your character must be a hero from the (rather extensive) DOTA 2 roster (I’m expecting DOTA 2 names, Warcraftian purists!) No Roshan, secret shopkeeper, courier or side character that appears in the comics please (I may allow this later). Thus, whilst not expecting an extensive knowledge of DOTA lore, I’m going to make the assumption that you play/have played DOTA/DOTA 2 and/or know about your character in terms of abilities, characteristics and their lore panel, which you may copy and paste into your bio to save time if you wish.

• I’m also expecting a general knowledge of what DOTA is and its mechanics and terms, like “creeps” and “the jungle” for example, as well as some knowledge on the in-game items. Im not expecting anything too extensive, just a base knowledge so you know what you’re getting into.

• This is (for now) a sandbox roleplay that may develop overarching storylines over time. Thus, within character bios it would be nice to see some detail on what your character is currently engaged in as well as their past. For example, my character, Auroth, would be mostly skulking in her lair compiling all the lore she has collected, as well as trying to overcome her severe writers block in updating the Eddas. Of course, we make the assumption that the characters engage in these activities in between fighting for the ancients (and that’s Auroth’s trouble, isn’t it? She’s constantly getting distracted!)

• In terms of grammar, I’m not expecting perfection. Just basic spelling, punctuation and grammar are all I ask for. Quality over quantity, people! Though I am expecting a reasonable post length (Yknow, one beyond one word or one sentence), I do expect a degree of moderation if excess will harm the story. If you can be concise while still maintaining a proper flow in the story, excellent. If you can write thousands of words without making other players feel left out, also excellent. If you want to write a chapter on how your character absentmindedly takes out an army, seduces a princess, then wrestles a dragon into submission, please proceed to the nearest exit.

• I have no time for any complex battle systems, I’m afraid. This is a literate RP, so battles will be described through storytelling and interaction. I will NOT allow autoing in any form. You post what your character does, and then wait for the other player’s reaction. That is all. Also, no mary sues! Your character is a DOTA 2 charcter, meaning their powers are of equal base to others heroes and they can sustain damage, maybe even die. If a character is to die, the player controlling that character must give their consent, and even then, because its DOTA, respawns are possible.

• Try to be active and post as/when you can. I understand as well as anyone that real life is a thing that exists. Also try to be social and active within the OOC, and let us know if you want to leave, so we can work on your character’s exit.
