Years ago, vampires staged a secret coup to take over the world. It happened gradually, but it was suspicious that North Korea and Saudi Arabia both turned into democracies around the same time. After that the governments around the world mandated regular blood checks and supplementation of foods with vitamins as well as a law that penalizes bad health (except when the person is not at fault for it). This was all to provide a constant blood supply to the about 800,000 vampires worldwide. When people found out about the truth and wanted to tell everyone about it, they were called crazy conspiracy theorists and if politicians or doctors wanted to say it, they either were institutionalized or were assassinated. Despite the couple of suspicious laws though, everything seemed normal. People had plenty of freedoms, could move about freely and mind their own business.

Currently there is a small underground movement in Vienna seeking to reveal the truth to the world and overthrow the vampire overlords. The governments have classified the group as a terrorist organization. The group called itself Atlas.

Vampires: Vampires look like normal human beings, but have pale skin and fangs, some of which get dental work done to look more human. The general rule for them is to only go outside at daytime if they wear strong sun lotion (stay outside for two hours at most) or with an umbrella. If it is overcast outside then it is safe for vampires. Staying outside for more than two hours in the sun even with sun lotion can cause severe burns to their skin. Of the 800,000 vampires worldwide, only about 20,000 hold superior positions and the rest are company owners, bureaucrats, doctors or politicians. Only a tiny number is unemployed or is not integrated into vampire society.

Housekin: Housekin are humans loyal to vampires. Usually born into a family that is loyal to the vampires. They are however loyal to a specific house of vampires. Today, they often work as agents or puppets of the vampires and are often responsible for the disappearance of disloyal politicians.
