Legends of the New World

Legends of the New World

0 INK

Hundreds of years after a nuclear war ripped the Earth apart, radiation has created new species of humans such as Elves, and dwarfs. Now new nations have risen in this new and mystical land, who will you fight for?

5,128 readers have visited Legends of the New World since Reaper2707 created it.

Introduction

BE SURE TO READ WHOLE INTRODUCTION BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!

Hundreds of years ago there was a war, known today as the three day war. No one is sure what exactly happened, all that is known is that in a place called Asia a nuclear war started. In only three days it had grown to such scale that the whole world had been covered in a nuclear fire.

Now the world has started anew, the climate of the Earth has completely changed, water levels have risen in some places and fallen in others and the Earth no longer looks the same. Humanity has started over, but it no longer one species. Others have formed from the toxic fires of war, Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs and more, all mutations caused by radiation.

ABOUT THE WORLD

The world is stuck between two ages of technology. While the ability to make 21st century firearms has been maintained, low resources keep them from being the center point of any army. This has brought about the return of swords, arrows and spears etc, as practical weapons of war. Motor Vehicles are few in numbers and only the two industrialized nations have them (The Dwarven People's Alliance and the Triad Republic). While the Triad Republic uses vehicles that run off solar powered batteries, which are still few in numbers, the dwarfs technology is all relied off of coal and steam so you get the idea. Flight is a thing of the past aside from a few helicopters built by the Triad Republic which are few in number and have very little practical use. These things being said, horses and foot transport are usually the only options unless you find a Dwarven steam train line or a Triad air taxi.

If you have any further questions about the world feel free to PM me.

ABOUT THE SPECIES

As it says at the beginning, the species present are all mythical beings they are just not "naturally" apart of the world. I only have four species I'm introducing to begin with.

Human's - Obviously you should know about humans since you are one. They have no improved anything and are the most technologically advanced. They have a wide mix of personalities, but tend be expansionist.

Elves - Elves are humans (meaning same height as well) who have grown elongated ears due to the radiation altering their DNA. These longer ears allow them to trap sound waves better than a human ear, giving them advanced hearing. They also have acquired better eyesight, allowing them to see like hawks. However, this has come at a cost of them losing valuable muscle tone making them weaker than any of the other introductory species. They tend to be the most peaceful as well.

Dwarfs - Dwarfs, like elves, have had alterations to their DNA due to radiation. They have lost some hearing ability, as well as some eyesight ability. Needless to say they have also lost some height, averaging about 5'3 if they are lucky. However, these losses in those abilities are made up for with an increased muscle capacity, making them the strongest of the playable introductory species. Their skin has also seen some improvement, becoming rough and leathery which provides more protection against attacks. They are differently the most stubborn of the species, why go around if you can go through it...that about sums it up.

Orcs (Non-playable for now) - The reason Orcs are unplayable for the start of the RP is because they are being used as a plot device to get things moving. After the initial story arc I will release them to you guys! Orcs are the tallest of the introductory species, coming in at an average of 6'3. They are big walking mounds of muscle, whose skin tone has been altered to a rough, slimy dark green and they are by far the strongest, toughest and most brutal of all the intro species. They are basically the tank of the four. However, as we all know tanks don't have brains. Orcs are incredibly stupid, resorting to basic barbarian states of language and acting almost completely out of blood lust. To find one with the basic mind skills of a human teenager is a feat.

If you guys have ideas for species you want to add, PM me and we can discuss it.

Character Creation

To create Character, I don't really have an outline but I want it to be descriptive. Give him a personality and a skill set that coincides with his race so that I can have NPCs act accordingly. This is not a D&D style RP, and will be written almost like a story with some RPG elements.

Your character has to begin either as a occupant of one of the factions, or a traveler from a different land. If you live in any of the factions you can be anything from a farmer to a drunk or soldier. The only exception to this is the Order of the Winged Cross who have two occupations you can start as.

Specialty occupations are things you have to have your character strive for throughout your story arc, you can't just say hey I'm the mayor now. For now any high ranking government positions are closed until I feel that I have some good options of people for each one. So you can't become the President of the Triad Republic, but you can become a mayor. Also take note that in some places, some Joe blow can't become the nations leader. So read about the factions and if you want to try and get higher up the chain, set up your character accordingly.

If you have further questions please PM me.

The Factions

Triad Republic

Basics – The Triad Republic is a collection of three different human nations who have come together to form a massive Empire in the Northern part of the land. They are an industrialized people who are striving to bring the world back to its former state. However, the government is fiercely racist against mutations such as the Elves and Dwarfs and has banned all public and private worship under the belief that religion was one of the reasons the old world was destroyed. They also believe that mutations are just another blemish on society that will cause this new world to be destroyed if they are allowed to hold to much power. Although every species, except dwarves, are allowed to visit and live in the Republic they are forced to pay extremely high taxes and in some places face segregation.

Many people consider the Republic as the “bad guy” of the lands, since they are constantly giving the other factions an issue. They refuse to make deals with the other nations and use their industrial might and easy access to firearms to bully them around. Although the Republic is a bully to the other factions, its own people enjoy many freedoms such as the rights to weapons and free speech. However, recent controversy within the nation has come about regarding new laws the government is trying to put in place.

Officials (Specialty Occupations)

Department of Sensitive Operations Agent – This is, in essence, the CIA, FBI, NSA, ATF all put into one. They run all foreign spy operations as well as domestic operations. They can be assigned to do anything from assassinations to protecting the president or busting drug operations.

Mayors – Mayors are elected officials assigned to run a city or small town with the Republic.

Governors – Governors are elected officials who are assigned to run the provinces of the Republic

Senators – Senators are elected officials who appointed to vote on the actions taken by the heads of the government. They can vote on Homeland laws that they want passed which are then sent to the Council of three for approval. However, they can not create laws or actions that will affect foreign policy. They can also pass or Veto laws and actions passed down by the Council of Three.

Council of Three – The council of three is a group of elected officials, one from each member nation. The Council of three can create laws for both home and foreign policy as well as suggest military actions which must first be approved by the senate and then passed up to the President for final approval. They can also veto laws and actions passed up from the Senate or down by the president.

President – The president is the head of state for the Republic and has all the same powers that the US president would, with a few exceptions.

Important Sites

The Grand District (Capital of the Republic and Eagle Crest) – The Grand District is a small section in the heart of The Grand City in the Nation of Eagle Crest. This small district is composed of only government buildings that consist of the capital, the Senate building, the Council of Three Headquarters, the DSO headquarters and a few mansions reserved for political big wigs.

The Grand City – The Grand City is a massive place that is loaded for entertainment. There are multitudes of Casinos, bars, theaters, race tracks you name it. It is the closest that anyone will ever come to seeing the old world, as it is modeled closely after pictures of Las Vegas, New York and LA.

Border Town (Capital of New Eden) – Border Town is the capital city of the nation New Eden. New Eden is the smallest nation of the three, and its capital city shows it. It lies on the border of Eagle Crest and is a city that is renowned for its beauty. However, unlike the natural beauty of the Blue Moon Empire, the beauty found here is all man made. Neon light shows and artificial waterfalls dot the small city.

Iron Sides (Capital of Stronghold) – Iron Sides is the capital of Stronghold, the southern most nation in the Republic, and the most industrialized. Just like the rest of the cities in this nation, Iron Sides is a town that has no sky because it is obscured by the black cloud of smoke that rises from its many factories. The only thing that really sets it apart from the other cities is the fact that it has a capital building.

Brigs Military Academy – Brigs Military Academy is the most prestige’s military academy in the land. Even people who hate the Republic respect people who have graduated from it. It is renowned for teaching the best melee weapon tactics from ancient conquers such as Alexander the Great, while teaching amazing modern tactics from leaders such as General Patton and Rommel.

Blue Moon Empire

Basics – The Blue Moon Empire is a nation of Elvin beings who were outcast to the Southern territories long ago. Since then, they have banded together to make an agriculturally geared, theocracy. The people of the Blue Moon Empire strive to be close to nature, most nationals living in quaint and unindustrialized villages. The people of the nation live in a mix of religious and spiritual beliefs, but the most popular religion type is Native American spirituality religions. These religions are based on the belief that everything is controlled by spirits and that the Earth is alive and can feel everything that is done to it, and knows what is happening on her surface.

The Blue Moon Empires military is completely made up of males. However, the Blue Moon Empire is rarely the aggressor in any fight so the bulk of it’s military might is dug in for defense.

Circle of the Crescent Moon Elders (Civilian Specialty Occupations)

This group is made up of religious leaders and their assistance, most of which are reserved for females who are believed to be closer to nature than males.

Daughters of Gaia – The daughters of Gaia are females who are working as assistance to the Elders. They help during spiritual meditation as well as gather any objects that the Elders request. To become a daughter you must be born on a full moon and must be chosen through an Elder who is, by belief, acting as a tool of Gaia to seek out the “chosen ones”.

Daughters are permitted to have mates but only if the union is presented before Gaia (the Earth) and the Elders. During this ceremony multiple steps are taken to assure that Gaia approves of the union and that the spirits of the two will come together to “become one”. Although this practice was created specifically for the Daughters of Gaia, many everyday citizens also go through this ceremony out of personal belief.

Wind Talkers – Wind Talkers are Female Elders who are believed to have the ability to communicate with all the spirits, whether they are of animals, nature or Gaia herself. They are the ones who choose the Daughters of Gaia, and do all of the union ceremonies. Unlike the prophets in the Order, Wind Talkers are not believed to see the future. However, they are believed to be able to ask the spirits for advice on problems faced by any living being. Since spirits are believed to be the wisest of any minds, the word given by Wind Talkers is sacred.

Spirit Father – There can only be one Spirit Father at any given time. He lives in the spiritual capital of the Blue Moon Empire and is believed to be the incarnation of a spirit on Earth. He is believed to be the one to relay the will of the sky and the stars.

Spirit Mother – Just like the Spirit Father there can only be one Spirit Mother at any given time. She is also believed to be the incarnation of a spirit on Earth and is believed to relay the will of the waters and the plants.

Royal Entourage (Government Specialty Occupations)

Men of Stone – These men are believed to be the incarnations of stone spirits, making them the strongest of all men. They are appointed as anything from Royal guards to elite Special Forces.

Watchers of the Lands – The Watchers can be men or woman and act basically as Lords would in a normal feudal society. They rule over specific areas of the Blue Moon Empire, they are believed to be chosen by Gaia to protect the Elvin people.

The Great One – The Great One is the ruler of all the Blue Moon territories. This position is always filled by a woman who is believed to be the avatar of Gaia, who is amongst mortals only to lead the Empire to greatness.

Important Sites

Heart of Purity (capital) – The Heart of Purity is the only place that can be considered a city in the Blue Moon territories. It lays in the middle of an open plain that is covered in vegetation and shrubbery for miles. The city is made up of a series of separate villages that came together to form the city a long time ago. This results in a mix of different cultures, you can be in one side of town where drinking is frowned upon, then walk to the other side of town and find twenty bars where drinking is almost a pass time. There are no overly sized buildings; instead The Great One lives in an underground palace that has been hollowed out over the course of decades. The exact location of the palace is unknown, but rumor says that there are multiple entrances and exits located throughout the city.

Valley of the Morning Snow – In the Northern most part of the Empire there is a place a valley that was hit hard during the three day war. This place is sacred to the Elvin population that believes in Gaia and the spirits. This place is believed to be the spot where the balance of the universe is kept by the spirits. It is so sacred that it is forbidden that any mortal enter it, and doing so will earn you an immediate death sentence. That is only if you make it out of the valley alive. The radiation and fallout from the Three Day War have disrupted the climate immensely. In the Morning it can reach near blizzard conditions, in the afternoon it will suddenly become a down pour of rain, in the evening a dense fog will lay out over the valley and at night the chemical geysers in the ground will begin to spout and turn the valley into a scorching toxic wasteland. The next day, it will start all over again.

Riverside Village – Riverside village is a hot spot for foreigners. It is a full of pubs, and markets and is much more untamed then other villages in the empire. However, it is not the shops and pubs that draw the tourists; it is something far more dangerous. There is a mountain cave in Riverside that leads to a massive hidden lake within a mountain. This lake is the source of the river that runs by the village, and there is said to be creature that lives inside the lake. At first most people discounted this as nothing more than a rumor… that was until people began looking for it…and then not coming back. Travelers, fishermen and warriors from all over come to Riverside to either say they had been there, or to actually hunt the beast.

Dwarven People’s Alliance

Basics – The DPA is a Dwarven fascist dictatorship to the East of the Triad Republic. They are the second most industrialized nation in the land, but they lack the resources to build as many modern firearms as the Triad Republic. Therefore, the DPA focuses most of its industrialized power into mining stone and creating siege weaponry. Most of its cities lay in the sides of mountains, or in deep craters in the ground. Some if you were to travel to the DPA you would find a mix of cities, though not a vast a selection as the Triad Republic. Cities are either surrounded by nature and quite quaint or huge industrialized monstrosities that attract the most vulgar of Dwarfs.

The government of the DPA, and most of its people, get along with most species aside from humans. After the Triad began to mistreat people of Dwarven decent, the whole species began to take a great disliking to humanity. The dictatorship has even gone as far as ordering that all humans in their territory should be killed on sight. Few Dwarf’s disagree with the governments view on humans, but those who do keep their mouths shut under fear that they might be executed by the government.

The DPA is usually frowned upon by other factions because it is a law in their territory that all foreign items, religions, books etc, are banned. Being caught with even a newspaper clipping from another nation can earn you a jail sentence. They are also constantly trying to push their ways onto others, though it has yet to escalate to violence. This is mostly due to the fact that the government wants everything to be Dwarven because it is “The best way to live”. The religion of the DPA is based off the Viking religion, they believe in Valhalla and a warrior’s death.

The Fuhrer’s trusted associates (specialty occupations)

State Security Police Force – In essence this is the rebirth of the SS. They are a secret police force in charge of punishing those who break the most severe of the DPA’s laws. They also commit acts of brutality against Human’s that are unfortunate enough to fall into their hands. Aside from this, they also investigate possible domestic threats such as, terrorists, rebels, illegal political parties, those talking negatively of the government and so on.

Foreign Operations Legion – the FOL are the men who go behind enemy lines, but they do not spy. Instead they are there to commit chaos, insight riots and destroy infrastructure. Dwarfs care little for spying; they just wish to see their enemies dead. Well this legion does it from the inside.

State Committee – The State Committee is a collection of cabinet members who help the Fuhrer run the country. There are six members in all, one that runs the FOL and SSPF, one that resides over foreign policy, one that resides over domestic policy, one that resides over military policy and action, one that runs the cities and the final one who is the advisor to the Fuhrer and relays all information from the other Committee members. The Committee members have no actual government power (aside from the Watcher of the Land who acts as a governor to all the cities) and they are just there to keep tabs on everything for the Fuhrer.

The Fuhrer – The Fuhrer is the iron fist of the nation. He runs the nation unopposed, everything he says goes and his word is final.

Important Sites

Grave Mine (Capital) – The Grave Mine was the first mine ever built by the Dwarven people. It is still the largest ever built to this day, but it is no longer in operation. When the DPA was just getting its footing a small war broke out between pro Fascists and pro Capitalists. In the end the Fascists prevailed, but not without a great cost. The mine had collapsed during the fight, burying thousands alive of who died that way. From then on the site was known as the Grave Mine, and it is respected as being the site where the first dwarfs, the fascist ones at least, were carried to Valhalla. It didn’t take long for the new government to decide to place its capital there as a sign of power.

Great Mountain Dome – The Great Mountain Dome is a small mountain that was hollowed out to create a massive coliseum inside. In the middle of the mountain lies a huge arena known as the Warriors Pit, and around it there are thousands of seats. Lining the walls of the mountain are small huts that are built to overlook the arena. However, only the very wealthy, or most respected warriors, can afford to live in them

Order of the Winged Cross

Basics - A peaceful order of priests, monks and priestesses that live by the teachings of a new book of the bible that is known as the Book of Carter. This book tells of how corruption and greed lead to the most important stories and lessons of the bible to be destroyed, and this book brings them to light. These stories are mostly centered directly before and directly after the book of revelations. It tells of how the world will know many purging disasters and wars, all of which are meant to slowly water down the amount of corrupt and evil populations on Earth. These disasters and wars would take place before the rapture and tribulations. It then tells of how one war will devastate the Earth, killing millions. From the book of Carter “And see mankind a war, short but brutally devastating. Fires will scorch the sky, men, woman and children both vile and righteous will turn to the heavens and cry for forgiveness and salvation. But as God’s will is strong, none shall they receive.”

But, there are passages that hold the prime reasons the order was formed

Carter 10:8 “From the fires and ash of the devastated, forth will come men and woman who will hold the true teachings of God and Christ in their heart. From the hearts of those of purity, some will learn and ascend to a higher being of which God bestows upon only the worthy. “

Carter 10:9 “These men and woman of worthy heart and soul will have been ordered by the lord to bring the true teachings of the lord to hearts and souls of the worthy, who seek the knowledge out of love, but not to the wicked who seek it out of lust.”

Carter 10:10 “When the most worthy of souls have been enlightened of the truth, God shall begin the ascendance of mankind. And as foretold in the book of Revelation, worthy souls, with God in their heart, will be brought to heaven, while those who have neglected his love will stay on Earth.”

Carter 10:11 “Though the men and woman of truth are indeed the most pure, they will stay behind, not as punishment but as a beacon of God that will carry those left behind on wings of gold through the torments that await. While they must embrace peace, peace must also be put aside as the agents of Hell will wreck havoc upon them, and havoc they shall return.”

The Winged Order believes that they are the men and women spoken of in the Book of Carter. They strive to embrace peace, the key to unlocking human ascendance. They tend to live far from most other humans as they know of the violence they hold, but they send missionaries on a normal basis to find those of the most pure souls to bring to their side.

Wings (occupations) of the order

The Wing of Brotherhood

The wing of brotherhood is the order of priests that are members of the Winged Cross. Their main job is anything from setting up services, to giving last rights. They are also sent out as missionaries to find more members for the order. In a sense, the brotherhood is like the public representative branch of the winged cross, holding donation shows and conducting sermons for those not permitted to be members of the Winged Cross.

The Wing of Sisterhood

Like the Wing of Brotherhood, the Sisterhood is a branch of priestesses. They, unlike priests, are tasked with marinating church facilities, assisting in sermons, and completing day to day tasks within the church. Although their role is mostly assisting the Priests, some are also tasked with becoming missionaries where they have all the duties a Priest would if given the same job.

The tables of the Order (Specialty occupations)

The tables of the order are “mini-orders” within the order itself. Although they consider themselves apart of the Winged Cross, they also considered to be in a higher position of honor (Almost like the differences between a cardinal and a priest.)

Table of the Monks

The monks are those who have been deemed closer to God than anyone else in the order, aside from the ruling council. They have dedicated themselves so much to God and the Order that they have renounced things like marriage, sex, and luxury so that they can completely devote themselves to their work. Some monks go to extremes, such as castrating themselves, to avoid temptation. Like the Priests and Priestesses they have devoted themselves to absolute peace.

Seats (occupations) of the table (in order of importance as seen by the church)

Seat of scribes

The scribes are the ones who are responsible for writing down the events of the church and keeping records of members, services, religious trials etc. Some are even sent with missionaries to scribe the trip and the events happening outside the sanctuaries of the church. The most important job that is carried out by the scribes is hand writing bibles and books of Carter. They do not hand write all of them of course but only the ones that are used for official church purposes. They are the only monks of the table who take an oath of silence, this is believed to not distract them from the work God has given them to document his world. Most monks go as far as cutting out their tongues or sowing their mouths shut to refrain from speaking.

Seat of blessings

These monks are in charge of many things. Their most important job is the blessings of new members of the church, objects and places considered sacred, and blessing bibles and books of Carter that are to be used for official church purposes as well as maintaining all sacred places and objects. They are the only ones permitted in parts of the sanctuaries deemed “Sacred” such as tombs and chambers used specifically to bless objects. They are not allowed to touch any sacred objects with their skin, just as everybody else in the church. However, since their job entails touching these objects on an almost daily bases, some choose to have their fingers removed and replaced with mechanical counterparts. They are not required to take any oaths aside from the mandatory set for all monks.

Seat of prophecy

This is by far, the most respected position of all the monk seats. They are responsible for foretelling the outcomes of journeys and pinnacle moments in member’s lives, much like the oracle of Delphi in ancient Greece. But their most important job is foreseeing the beginning of the rapture and put into action the plans that the order has for that time. They are sworn to an oath of darkness, which means they are not allowed to see anything besides the dark so that all they see are the visions God wishes them too. This results in almost every monk on this seat to cut out their eyes to avoid being stuck in a dark room for the rest of their lives. Most prophets live in the Saint Carter’s Cathedral

Table of the Knights Templar

The table of the Knights Templar is the only group of people in the order not sworn to peace. In fact, their purpose is quite the opposite. They are the people in the order who are expected to do battle with the agents of hell described in the Book of Carter. They are also expected to protect the order from people who want to destroy it before the time of the tribulations comes. They use a military ranking system and military tactics. Unlike the seats in the other tables, in the Knights templar you can start off in one seat and be promoted to another. In fact, most people start in the “lowest” seat and have to work their way up. But in order to even be eligible to join the Templar you must have first been a priest or priestess and been asked or applied for the position. After acceptance the person would be “cleared” of their oath of peace.

Seats (occupations) of the table

Seat of warriors

The seat makes up the actual fighting force of the knights templar. They train in military battle tactics, the operation and use of firearms, and melee weapons as well as receive trainings in various hand to hand combat techniques. To get into the seat of the warriors one has to go through a basic training. The ranks that this seat consists of all “front line” ranks which is everything from a private to a Major. The duties of this seat are everything from training new recruits too making sure the Templar’s are supplied.

Seat of shadows

This seat is responsible for intelligence gathering and all other aspects of espionage and spy operations.

Seat of Minds

The seat of minds is made up of all the colonels, generals and supreme commanders of the Knight’s Templar.

Table of the Ruling Council

The table of the ruling council has no seats, instead it is a group made up of several “High Priests” and “High Priestesses” who have proved themselves as being the most peaceful and close to God. In a democratic fashion this group makes all major decisions for the Order.

Important sites

The Holy Citadel of the Cross (Capital) – The Holy Citadel is considered the center point of the Order. It is a grand temple surrounded by a wall constructed from a mix of bricks, cinder and metal. The interior is a mix of grand markets, houses, places of worship and a small military district. All of this is centered around a twenty story temple directly in the center of the Citadel. Very few outsiders are permitted access to the city, aside from Christmas Eve and Christmas day when massive sermons are held inside the temple to which all are welcome to attend.

Saint Carter’s Cathedral – A chapel located in the Southern lands and located on a mountain known as Beacon Point. This Cathedral is on a sacred patch of land that is believed to be the place that Carter was told about the missing pieces of the bible by God. Men and woman who wish to join the ranks of the monks must first make a pilgrimage to this cathedral, as well as anyone seeking the advice of the prophets.

The Map

This map isn't set in stone, it is just to give you an idea where everything is in contrast to each other. The land we are in is land locked except for the south west where the ocean lies

Quests and how the RP will be written

This won't be a quest based RP but in order to get things rolling, and keep them rolling, I'll be throwing out "missions" to bring characters together.

Now I would like this to be written like the Mass Effect: On the Edge RP, in an almost story format. This means people can play other peoples characters TO A POINT! You can have them do some simple actions and you can have them converse with one another, but you must clear everything through the creator of the character. Now if your saying Joe's character is taking a piss to help describe the scene that's fine. But if you will be physically moving the character into or out of conversation, or doing something like attacking an enemy you must have it cleared through the author. And if you are on the edge on whether or not to ask, then ask anyway.

Sexual content is okay, description is a good thing but turning this into a sex RP is not. If you think it might be a little risky, then ask the GM(s). Comedy is also okay, i'm good with a pun there and an Easter egg there as long as it's in good taste, and at least semi fits to the story. As long as it does that you can have a star wars line for all I care (No the force will be with you junk though. And don't over use the puns so much that they dry out for everybody.)

Toggle Rules

1. When in doubt ask the GM(s)!

2. NO God Mode

3. Only good quality posts, no three paragraph posts here!

“Open your eyes, open your eyes ” A divine voice, commanding and smooth broke through the calm silence of Melimir’s dream. The elves eyes darted open and he sat up as quick as he could, but instead of the quiet and peaceful settings of his tent, he found himself starring into a dark abyss. Where was he? He felt for the ground, only to realize that there was nothing under him. His heart began to race, he could feel it beating on his chest, trying to escape it and flee ahead of his own body.

“Do not be afraid, do not be afraid ” the same voice slithered from the deep unknown surrounding Melimer. It was truly a voice not of the mortal world; it was sleek and frightening but also welcoming all at the same time. Then, there was the whispers that followed it, whispers that repeated the divine words in hushed mutters as if dozens of fairies were whispering all at once.

“Am I…Am I dead?” Melimer inquired to the bodiless voice that spoke to him. He must be dead, there is no other explanation, and perhaps he was in a place meant for wicked souls.

“No, not dead, no, not dead ….merely awaking from a dream that has lasted your entire life, entire life ” The voice replied, and Melimer realized something. The voices were not coming from the abyss; they seemed to be originating from within his skull.

“If I’m alive, then where am I?” Melimer stammered out, still nervous about his surroundings. The dark was like no dark he had ever seen in his life; usually he can see through darkness well enough to make out objects. However, this dark was thick and permanent, glue that stuck to your eyes and would not release them.

“We are nowhere, nowhere …yet we are everywhere, everywhere ” The voices once again used Melimer’s own head as their vessel. He didn’t understand a word they were saying either. Could this be a spirit? Could he be communicating with something that powerful?

“What are you?” The elf shouted to the darkness

“We are everything, yet we are nothing, everything yet nothing ” The voices echoed back to him “mortal, we are not. Immortal, we are not. Immortal

“Then who are you!?” The elf pleaded for an answer that would help him understand what in the world was happening to him

“We have many names, many names , your people have labeled us with the name Lemis the teller of tales. Lemis teller of tales ” the voices answered “In the end, what you choose to call us is irrelevant.”

“You-you are Lemis!? This is incredible!” Melimer could not believe his ears, Lemis, the spirit who guided his people was talking to him! This was a glorious day for him, the pinnacle of his life so far! “I am not worthy to be in your presence!”

“There is very much to learn, and you know so little, so little . However, you have been chosen to complete a task.” The voices chimed

Melimer looked gave the emptiness surrounding him a puzzled look “What is the task?”

“Stand, and we shall show you, we shall show you ” The voices commanded, to which the elf spared no time abiding by. He felt around his body for clothing, and it became clear by the softness of the fabric that he was in the clothing he wore to bed. He was about to ask another question, when suddenly the darkness around him vanished and he found himself standing in the middle of a grassy field surrounded by palm trees. He was on a slightly elevated cliff above a beach where the waters of the ocean tackled the shore.

“I know this place; this is the beach we landed on when we first came to the island.” Melimer said aloud as he took in the beauty of the land. He was a part of a small gathering of Elves who had departed from the Blue Moon Empire long ago, under the Tale Teller’s guidance. Just a few days ago they had sailed from a land in the East, across the ocean from the Blue Moon Empire, and come to this island. He was unsure of why his people had been told to come here, but it was not his place to ask, for usually the Tale Teller only spoke to the wind talkers.

“Yes, your people did well to make it here with such haste, did well ” The voice called, but this time it was not in Melimer’s head, instead it originated from behind the young elf.

Melimer spun on his heel, his fear now replaced with an eagerness to lay his eye’s upon the magnificence of a spirit. The sight that he witnessed was not at all what he was expecting. What hovered slightly above the ground before him was a dark figure, one that wore a cloak as black as the pits of the devils heart. No hands, face or body at all seemed to be occupying the cloak. Instead it seemed as if the thick darkness he had just exited was now wearing the cloak like a living being would.

“You are surprised by our appearance, surprised .” the figure stated as if he had read the elf’s mind.

“No, of course not, great one!” Melimer blurted, not wanting to offend the spirit, who was now floating past the elf to the edge of the cliff overlooking the beach.

“What we ask of you, is of greatest importance, greatest importance .” the Tale Teller said “There is a darkness coming to the world. Darkness! , one that we are defenseless against.” The spirit spoke in a way that depicted no emotions of any kind.
“What kind of darkness?” Melimer inquired as he approached the spirit, his head slightly bowed

“On that threatens all life as we know it, threatens life . However, the darkness is not sprung from a single source, it is many. Many!

“Why is this darkness coming?” Melimer asked, is eyes gracing the spirits cloak and a slight grip of fear racking his voice.

“Motives of darkness are beyond any mortal comprehension, beyond mortal comprehension . There are things so far beyond this world that there is no possible way you could fathom its existence.” The spirit’s voices slithered ominously from his mouth “Even we are sometimes blind to the drives of evil.”

“What will happen when the darkness gets here?” Melimer wondered as he took his eyes off of the Tale Teller and looked out across the sunlit ocean. He was taken back by the beauty of it all; it was far more beautiful than he remembered it being. Suddenly, however, the ocean slowly faded away and was replaced by a horrific scene. Before Melimer was the ocean, but much different than just a second ago. It was no dried up, and the sky above it was now a hellish red and all the animals of the ocean lay on the bone dry dirt, flopping around as fires burned their scales.

“There will be a reckoning of the Earth, and fires will rain from the skies like the day’s of old fires from the skies .” the spirit spoke as a massive ball of flame crashed into the Earth not more than thirty feet away from where they stood. Melimer ducked in fear, as the embers poured over him, but the spirit did not budge. “The war, which brings this blaze upon living creatures, will not leave life left to repopulate as the last. The world and all of its creatures will be eradicated eradicated .”

Melimer was watching in terror, how could something like this happen again? “What do I need to do great one!” Melimer shouted at the spirit “Please tell me what I need to do to stop this from happening!”

“Travel.” The Tale Teller began, as the scene of violence returned to the one of peace that he had saw originally “Across the sea, to the North, across the sea .” Melimer jerked as he and the spirit suddenly shot across the ocean, hovering over it by inches. Seconds later, another land mass came into sight “There you will find the land of your ancestors, land of your ancestors .”

“The Empire?” Melimer asked,

“Yes, and in this land, three other nations hail along with an order of priests. In these places you will find a wealth of guilds, mercenary groups, and grand cities that will suit the task that we are asking of you. Guilds, mercenaries…grand cities!” The spirit boomed as the two came to a stop on yet another beach.
“Great one” Melimer began as he shook his head in confusion “I still don’t understand what you want me to do.”

“You will go to this land, and seek out others who have been chosen. You must look under ever rock and every crevice. EVERY rock and EVERY crevice ” The spirit commanded, its tone now much more severe.

“If they are chosen, why can’t you just tell me who they are?” Melimer asked

“There are many among the chosen, but only the strongest may succeeded, only the strongest . We know of your abilities, but unfortunately we are unable to see clearly the abilities of the others. This is why you must seek out those worthy for us.” The spirit replied emotionlessly as it turned its head to look at Melimer

“But, I thought the spirits were all knowing.” Melimer cursed himself as the words left his mouth. Who was he to question a spirit, especially one like the Tale Teller?

“One, who knows nothing, can understand nothing.” The spirits voice crawled up Melimer’s spine as it responded.

“Of course great one.” Melimer answered, bowing his head in shame “I was being foolish.” There was silence as the elf thought for a second “How will I know I have found the strongest ones though?” He inquired, with eyes still on the ground below his hovering feet. That’s when he observed the light all around him suddenly be cast over by an enormous shadow. He quickly shot his eyes up, looking upon green skin that looked as if it were made from the most grotesque substances known to the planet. As he backed up and his eyes studied the creature’s upper body, he noticed multitudes of scars and wounds that littered its chest. The face, an ugly reminder of the horrors that the occupants of the last world brought upon the Earth and its eyes pits of evil that sucked the very life from Melimer’s body. The sight of the beast alone was enough to make a man cry, but the smell of cruelty and shame alone was enough to kill him. The beast stood as frozen as a statue, its eyes glaring at him with a bloodlust that made his blood run cold.

“This land is terrorized by this abomination. A testament to the face of evil and what it is capable of doing, it is known as Krigar the Feared the feared .” The spirit explained. Melimer was baffled by the size and obscenity of the creature, it was truly something that bore evil on its soul “This beast and his followers are agents of darkness, and those who can destroy him are truly worth purpose purpose . But do not be fooled, there may be those you meet you stray from the path we desire, join allegiances that don’t suit our cause. Your trust must be placed in ability, not in loyalty.”

Melimer was in denial, how could he be the one chosen to take on such a creature? He was young, and had only experience in combat against creatures barely even his size. This monstrosity was a siege tower, obviously built for the soul purpose of killing. “How can I kill him? I haven’t ever seen anything like him!”

“Question not our judgment, nor your ability. We have said what needs to be spoken.”

“Wait, I have more questions!” Melemir shouted as the spirit faded into thin air “Wait!”

That is when he sat up straight, screaming at the interior of his tent. He grabbed his head as he looked down at the fur sheets that covered him. He was once again in his bed, the warm morning breeze of the island wafting through the small slit in the tent. It was obvious by the smell of burning firewood that the others of his group were already awake, at least some of them.

“Melemir!” A male voice called from outside just before the tent’s opening flew open to reveal the face that the voice belonged to “What’s wrong!?” He asked as he looked around the tent

Melemir was quiet for a second as he lay, looking into the eyes of his fellow elf. He could hardly believe what he had just been through, but it was too real to be a dream…wasn’t it? “I need to speak to the wind talkers…I think I just had a vision.”

And so…our story begins.

There were only two constant noises that stopped the small village from being completely silent. The first was the constant, rhythmic pounding of the rain on the rooftops of the several buildings. Everyone was resting inside their homes, to either stay dry or stay warm. Even though it was still in the middle of the day, the heavy rain and grey sky meant there was little warmth to be given by the sun.

Most of the families were gathered around the fireplaces of their home, where the children were playing with their toys and parents conversed and relaxed. There was not much work to be done today anyways, so the people just enjoyed the day off they were given. About the only activity that could be seen outside was the occasional critter roaming the streets in search of food, or a person here or there travelling between homes.

The only other person outside, enjoying the rain and creating the one other noticeable noise was a man; relaxed in a chair on his porch and running a whetstone along the edge of a hand axe. He had his legs resting on the railing of his porch, and was leaning back as he continued his work. He had recently had to reshape the hand-axe after a particular encounter with a group of bandits. Or atleast he assumed that's what they were, judging by what the family who gave him the job said. Didn't really matter though, as Ralo was just happy enough to be paid for the job.

The axe had ended up chipped when Ralo had tried to drive the axe through a bandits shoulder. It had caught the metal shoulder plate the man had been wearing, and though it deflected off and slid into a gap between the shoulder plate and the bandits neck, it still broke a rather noticeable piece of the axe's head. It was actually rather annoying, considering the bandit had given Ralo a free hit. The bandit had assumed that because Ralo was covered in a hefty amount of bandages, that he'd have an easy fight. It was entertaining for Ralo to look into the man's shocked face as he slowly fell to the ground, bleeding profusely from his neck wound. The look on his friends' faces was also hilarious at his death, and the look only got better when an axe became wedged in another bandit's face after being thrown by the bandaged man. A bit of fighting later, the rest of the bandits were dead, and now Ralo had an axe that he needed to fix.

Ralo looked over the axe, sighing in boredom before he set the axe and stone down before placing his hands behind his head, yawning. It'd been a while since he had done anything truly fun; sure the little bandit thing was somewhat entertaining it was hardly the best thing he'd ever done. It was times like these that he missed serving in the Triad military. There was always something to be done during his service, especially being stationed along the borders of the Badlands. There was always a fight to be had, with all kinds of races. Sometimes it was Dwarves, Orcs, Elves, and even sometimes human rebels. He smiled some at the memories. Good times, good times. Well except for the part where he was set on fire, that part was not as fun as the rest.

"Mr. Orion!!" Ralo blinked, looking towards the slashing sound of someone running through the rain soaked roads. He saw a young woman coming towards him quickly, prompting him to lower his feet so he could sit up and see better.

"Yup?" He simply asked while leaning down to pick up his axe. He knew he shouldn't be getting his hopes up, as he figured this was hardly going to be anything exciting.

She stopped on his porch, stopping to catch her breath. Her pants were covered in mud, more than likely because she had been running for quite awhile. "S-sorry to..." she paused for a breath before standing up straight, looking at him. "My family...we need your help. My little brother wandered off into the woods, and though my father won't admit it, we really need help; your the one most people seem to go to for things like this, so...yeah..." She said while watching him.

Ralo groaned, closing his eyes and letting his head drop back. "Fuck...better than fucking sitting around I guess." Ralo mumbled while leaning over and picking up his axe. He looked at her, attaching the axe to his belt. "Wait here." He simply stated while turning to head into his house. The young woman stood there, rubbing her arms while shivering some, having gotten drenched from walking through the storm. It was a few minutes later that he walked back out, with a heavy jacket on. She couldn't see the knife that he had sheathed on his belt, nor the axe now with the jacket covering them both. He then looked at her, sighing, "Lead the way. And make it quick, amabo te."

"A-Amabo...te?" She asked

"Lead the damn way already!" He suddenly shouted, causing the young woman to jump.

"o-ok!" She stammered before turning and running off, Ralo following not far behind.
