|| STRENGTHS ||
Animals & Magical Creatures seem to be naturally drawn to Matteo and he has a talent with putting them at ease, which helps with his favourite subject Care of Magical Creatures. Matteo's also rather skilled at telling jokes. Matteo's friendliness and optimisim help earn him friends. He's also surprisingly good at quidditch, possessing the needed hand-eye coordination to make a decent Chaser.

|| FLAWS ||
He's not book smart and seems to struggle with most theoretical learning. His worst subjects are History of Magic and transfiguration, the first because he falls asleep out of boredom, the second because he can't get his head around the spells. He's rather gullible given the right circumstances and has been known to have moments of extreme melancholy.

|| FEARS ||
Ghosts \\ Even the friendly castle ghosts make Teo uneasy and the last time a ghost floated through him he almost fainted.
Losing His Family \\ Teo fears the death of his family and losing contact with them. The wizarding world is so different from the muggle, and he's terrified that it'll create a divide between them all.

|| GOALS & AMBITIONS ||
When he was a boy Matteo dreamed of opening a bakery and serving Sicily's best baked goods. However, on finding out that he was a wizard his interests have shifted. He now dreams of working with magical creatures, in particular stopping the extinction of endangered creatures or working with his personal favourites, Griffins and Hippogriffs. Or, if that plan didn't work he'd still like to open a bakery.

|| SECRETS ||
Teo sometimes sneaks into the kitchens for extra food between meals. He's done it so often all the kitchen elves know him by name.

|| BIRTH DATE ||
22nd June

|| PERSONALITY ||
Enthusiastic || Friendly || Optimistic || Melancholic || Empathetic || Humorous
What is there to say about Matteo Lanzo that can't be seen in the smile on his face? What you see is what you get with Matteo, and generally what you get is an optimistic goofball. Friendly and cheerful, it is rare to see a frown on his face. If he's not telling a joke he'll be laughing at one. Humour is a big part of his life and he usually gets along well with anyone that has a decent sense of humour. He's rather easy-going in general, taking things as they happen and not worrying too much about little hiccups along the way. It takes a lot to get him angry, and once he is it doesn't take much to calm him down, or bring him back to his accustomed smiling self.

He isn't the smartest student around, which he would freely admit. His attention is prone to wondering when he isn't interested and any lesson where he's forced to sit down for long periods of time generally has him fidgeting too. He prefers subjects that let him use his hands. Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, even Divinition, at a stretch, are subjects he prefers to what he considers the 'boring, book subjects' such as Transfiguration or History of Magic. Care of Magical Creatures is by far his favourite, no doubt helped by his innate skill with animals. As a boy Matteo would bring home wounded animals and take care of them. He would be ecstatic when one recovered, and heartbroken when a charge died.

At the root of it, it's because Teo hates to see any person or animal upset and hurting. He's extremely empathetic to others' feelings. Even if he might not always know what to say, he'll try his best to make those around him smile. He wears his own heart on his sleeve and it isn't hard to tell when he's distressed. While not often unhappy, when it does hit him it seems to hit hard. There may be a cause, there may not. Often times when he feels a mood coming on he'll take himself down to visit the beasts kept for lessons or up to visit his Owl, Casper.

|| ORIGIN ||
Palermo, Sicily, Italy

|| HISTORY ||
Born on the beautiful island of Sicily, Matteo has spent the majority of his life beside the sea. In fact, until he took the trip to Magdalena, he'd never been more than a day's short travel away from the beautiful Mediterranean waters that surrounded his home. His family called Sicily's largest city, Palermo, home. His father, one Franco Lanzo, worked as a teacher at a local primary school, while his mother Antonia Lanzo was a veterinarian. As he comes from a family of muggles, his childhood was spent reading muggle fairy tales, playing video games, struggling through maths homework and skipping stones at the beach. He is also the youngest of four and the only boy, and spent much of his childhood trailing after his older sisters. More times than he could count he'd find himself being dressed up and having makeup smeared across his cheeks. His sisters would giggle and laugh as Matteo tried to toddle round the living room in a pair of his mother's heels. He still goes red whenever his parents bring out the proof of the childhood dress-ups.

As he got older two interests grabbed Matteo's attention, the first being food and the second animals. His father's parents, who lived just around the block were frequent visitors to their son's home and vice versa. These family visits were usually punctuated with overflowing plates of food, loud music, and seemingly bottomless bottles of wine. While Teo might not have been able to enjoy the wine, he certainly took advantage of the food. His sisters took to calling him Grasso, or 'Fatty' in English because he ate so much and often compared him to his childhood hero, Winnie the Pooh. Of course, the growing boy never seemed to gain weight, which only amazed his sister's further. This wasn't magic, merely the quick metabolism of a young boy. His other interest, animals, saw Matteo adopting and tending to little animals. If he found a wounded animal he'd carry it home or to his mother's clinic. Antonia helped when she could and taught Matteo how to properly care for sick animals. You could often find Teo chirping to his birds or carefully making a cast for a rabbit's broken leg.

It was while chasing after a limping cat at the tender age of nine that Matteo first realised there was something different about him. Somehow, and he still doesn't understand how, he found himself jumping from street level and landing thirty floors up. Strange things kept happening to him, things that his sisters and parents took for stories that he'd made up. Then, sometime after his tenth birthday a representative from Magdalena arrived on his doorstep, claiming that Matteo was a wizard. The family was surprised, to say the least. Once they'd gotten over their initial shock his parents were incredibly supportive and, with the help of their Magdalena contact, learned all they could to help their son enter the magical world. Matteo's sisters took a bit longer to come around, especially Isabella, whose jealousy kept her from accepting it for a long time. Eventually they came around, but there was a time when no one could bring up magic without Isabella leaving the room.

For Matteo, Magdalena was like a dream come true. His time at the magic school has been just that, magic. While he wasn't able to prove himself as a top student (something he hadn't achieved in his muggle school either), the many friends he has made, the creatures he's learned about and the food he sampled (to name a few), have made these some of the happiest in his life. He always returns home with stories of magic staircases, intense quidditch matches and house elves who make the best desserts. Now, entering his last year, he's determined to make the most of it, even as he looks forward to the future.

On the morning of September the first, all students arrive at Magdalena early and eagerly, just in time for breakfast. Theyโ€™d all greet those they hadnโ€™t yet had the chance to see and from there breakfast commence. Whether or not the lot of students got any rest usually depended on their compatibility with trains, which was inevitably unlikely. All students boarded at different times and different places, but they all arrived at 8am on the dot.

ImageProfessor Hawthorne announced the arrival of the first years as the rest of the diverse school sat munching, to which they sorting ceremony began. Magdalena had itโ€™s own special way of sorting students into their houses. Though it seemed rather average or rudimentary, there was an enchanted basin placed at the end of the long line of first years. From there, they would draw their house, and go to join their tables pridefully.

Each table was dressed neatly in itโ€™s house color named boldly with a banner lined in gold and silver, a glowing mist emanating around all the dishes and plates that floated and rotated so that everyone could get a bite. Not only did the tablecloth glow as brightly as the plates did, but it would almost play with the children. Pleasing them with thoughtful images of animals that best described their actions or their houses, and blasting the occasional first year in the face with what looked like an abundance of glitter.

Once the frayed nerves of the newbies died down, the students would surely be reintroduced to their new home know as Magdalena Academy of Magical Education.

There was something about the start of year that Matteo adored. Perhaps it was the food, for that had certainly caught his eye the moment he had taken a seat, or perhaps it was merely reconnecting with friends. A smile had lit his face since he'd entered the hall, his hand waving to friends from across the tables. He hadn't seen many of them since Magdalena had let out, so he was definitely overdue for some catch-ups. Yet, first he was going to eat.

It had been the usual round of farewells at the airport. As had become a tradition his whole family had turned out to say goodbye. His parents, sisters, and father's parents all made a point of hugging him goodbye and giving him whatever advice they thought relevant. It had been the same when he had left for his first year, although his mother had been holding back tears (her baby was off to magic school after all!) and his sister Isabella, who had only just gotten over her jealousy of his magic, had given him a tense hug goodbye. Entering his seventh year at Magdalena, Matteo was quite capable of flying on a broom to the school, or using the floo powder network to get to the train station, but he was hesitant to break the tradition of saying goodbye at the airport. His family was also a muggle family, albeit one familiar with the magical world (to a degree), flying in metal machines made more sense than what his father had called 'a flimsy sweeping broom'.

The trip itself had been uneventful. The flight wasn't long and Matteo slept through most of it, before making his way to the train station that would take him the last leg of the journey. He still remembers his first trip to Magdalena. The Italian boy had been lucky not to get lost. His German was horrendous, really just the basics that his father had tried to teach him in the space of time before he left. He'd been lucky to discover that most Germans spoke English to some degree too. It was a kindly woman who had helped him find the train station, somehow knowing what Matteo was saying despite the heavy accent. Now, going into his seventh year, his English is basically fluent. There are words here and there he is unsure about and his accent is still apparent (although much better than his eleven year old self).

Now Teo felt no hesitation when speaking English, and he was using the language that moment to converse with his neighbour at the Eden table.
"So, get much Quidditch practice done while you were at home?" the boy, a sixth year, inquires. Matteo shook his head, a grin on his face as he pictured the faces of his neighbours if he had done so,
"Muggle born, remember." He says, before stuffing a piece of bacon into his mouth. Once he's swallowed he elaborates, "I would have gone down to one of the beaches, but Sicily gets crazy busy in the summer months. Tourists everywhere." Matteo's friend nods. He's from a beach town in Croatia which also gets hoards of tourists when the sun is shining.

The two continue to chat about their summers, only for their conversation to end when Matteo's friend gets waved at by a pretty girl from another table. He's off before Teo can even wish him good luck. Teo chuckles to himself before casting his own eyes around the hall. He spots multiple friendly faces, Anita is chatting with Vix and Emery further down the table. Teo waves to Anita and the pair, although for now he makes no move to head over to them. Why would he when he's yet to finish the big plate of food in front of him? Only once he's fully satisfied will be move. For now it is breakfast that has his main attention.

Anita sat content at the Eden bench as Vix and Emery chatted together. She wasn't listening in too hard, figuring that it was their own business. She buttered her toast lightly and looked around for the strawberry jam, which she had grown fond of during her stays in Germany. She loved its sweetness. Locating the jar, she spread some onto her toast, then took a bite. Ani leaned back and sighed contentedly, Tulip crawling out of her pocket a bit to assess the Hall.

She loved it here, really and truly. There was so much energy and happiness circulating throughout the room, with the aroma of breakfast in the air. The constant chattering of the students calmed, her, and she immediately remembered that this was her second home, one where she could be herself. she couldn't imagine being anywhere else at that moment, and instead ate her toast while focusing in on different conversations. The mix of different languages jumbled themselves in her mind, so she found the conversations in English, since not many other people here spoke Hindi, and her knowledge of German was rusty at best.

"I got a new broom, me dad gave 'er to me..."
"Thank goodness I can talk to you, so much has happened..."
"Look at this..."
"I'm excited to start classes..."
"How was your summer?"
"Can you believe we are already back?"

"Sicily gets crazy busy in the summer months," she recognized this voice, she realized, and turned her head towards it, smiling brightly. Matteo sat farther down the table, conversing with a somewhat familiar looking Eden boy. The boy stood to move to another table and Ani saw as Teo looked around for others, noticing her and waving. She smiled and waved back, laughing as she watched him concentrate back on his food as usual. She picked up her toast and stood, smiling at Vix and Emery as she walked down the table a bit to sit across from the Italian boy.

"เคนเฅˆเคฒเฅ‹, Teo," she said, Hello, Teo. She held the toast in her hand and took a small bite. "It seems that you haven't changed a bit, other than your tan," her voice was laced with humor and she caught her Hindi accent slightly, trying to make her English clearer. Tulip poked her head out of Ani's pocket again and Ani pulled her out and placed her in her lap gently, smiling at Teo, who ate across from her.

A smile splits Matteo's face as Anita Kapoor takes a seat opposite him. The Indian girl is always a welcome sight and, having not spoken with her in sometime, Matteo's glad she's made the short trip down the table. He returns her greeting with a nod, hastily attempting to swallow his mouthful of food in order to speak. He ends up half choking on the large mouthful and has to wash it down with a glass of water. If his mother had seen that display she would have flicked his head and told him to take smaller bites, while his sisters would have made jokes about his constantly hungry stomach.

Finally, the boy is able to talk. He grins at Anita's observation about his tan. Stretching his arms out to get a decent view of them himself, he observes that she's right, Teo is several shades darker than when he'd fare-welled Ani at the start of holidays. Of course, he did have the added advantage of having naturally olive skin to start with.
"It's hard not to get tanned where I'm from." Teo replies with an easy shrug, "Especially when you spend your whole summer lazing on the beach or showing lost tourist girls around town."

He hadn't spent the whole summer doing nothing. He'd helped out at his mother's veterinarian clinic when he could, earning a bit of extra pocket money and experience. He'd spent a several days delighting his sisters with stories of Magdalena, meeting their various boyfriends and their boyfriends' families, visiting old friends... then there had been the large dinner parties that seemed to occur every second night. Music, food, friends and family, dancing. Matteo would happily tell anyone who listened that no one knew how to throw a dinner party like Italians. Especially when the summer nights grew warm enough for the dinners to be moved out under the stars. The amount of eating he did too should have resulted in him gaining 10 kgs, at least, every summer. But, as his sister's often bemoaned, he never seemed to put on any weight.

"How were your holidays?" He asks Anita as he picks up another two pieces of toast. He grabs some bacon, a spoonful of eggs, and anything else that grabs his attention, making it into one magnificent sandwich. "Did you go to any weddings?" He asks, a seemingly strange question for a teenage boy to ask. But, ever since Teo had first heard about Indian weddings; the lights, the dancing, the music, the elephants on some occasions, he'd been hooked. His oldest sister's best friend is Indian-Italian and recently got married. He and his whole family were invited to the festivities. The whole event had been amazing. While Teo would proudly claim Italians as the masters of the dinner party, he'd happily admit that Indians know how to throw weddings.

As he waits for Anita to reply he sinks his teeth into his sandwich, taking a smaller bite this time in case he needs to speak again soon. He's already made a fool of himself once in front of Anita, he doesn't need to make it twice in five minutes.

There was an unusual and awkward pause as Anita gathered her toast, Vulpecula watching the pretty Indian girl go to sit with a boy she somewhat recognized. She screwed her face into an expression of absolute concentration before she finally recognized Matteo. However, her thoughts of him weren't what one would call pleasant. He was muggleborn and a dimwit. Vix wasn't exactly completely prejudiced towards non-purebloods, but she didn't see his purpose of attending any Wizarding School. She was sure that he most likely would fail his N.E.W.T.s, surprised that he had apparently made it past his O.W.L.s. He was a pretty boy with a pretty face and a gentle heart but that was about as far as the appeal went with him. She was no stranger to his lack of intelligence by her own standards and couldn't help but to take some form of offence. Not because she thought he was stupid, but because she happened to intrude on his History of Magic class after having forgotten her book for her Charms class a couple times and each time she went to retrieve it by the grace of her Head of Eden House, she noticed he was either staring off into the distance or making magic airplanes float about.

Had he been a pure-blood goofing off, she wouldn't have cared too much. They grew up learning these things and their parents would always tell them what great wizards and witches they were kin to. But she got an impression from Teo that he didn't care where his magic came from, how he got it, or why, just that he had magic. She felt it was a disrespect to their culture and he had no right to goof off after he had been whisked away from the incredibly boring life muggles lead and brought into a world that muggles could only write and dream about. She felt that muggleborns, more than anyone, should pay as close attention as they could in their classes.

But she would never say so aloud to him or anyone.

Pure-blood she may be, she wasn't intolerant and her discrimination was very selective. She didn't dislike any form of wizard or witch or see them as lesser than her and other pure-bloods. Sure, then majority of her friends were pure-bloods of prominent families, but she had a variety of other friends on the spectrum of lineage. Not many muggleborns, okay. So, perhaps, she was a bit more judgemental towards some of those raised in the muggle world. She could defend her claim to such an attitude by pointing out that she only disliked those who were idiots or ungrateful of their abilities and what doors they opened.

It had nothing to do with their blood status, that she would say. However, against her case, she had never actually tried to help Matteo or get to know him so she didn't know if he was trying hard and simply lacked the mental capacity. She had no personal experience with him outside of him goofing off in class while she passed through. Some might say it was hypocritical of her, that she condemned his carefree antics while she herself had incited a small riot or two in class and played hooky every once in a blue moon. She would defend her case with the fact that she could afford to. Her grades weren't at jeopardy.

As usual, she seemed to give far too much time to a passing thought and had lost herself with an internal debate, not noticing she had been staring at Anita and Matteo for so long that her vision had gone blurry. She blinked rapidly to clear her vision through her glasses and set her cat down, shooing him away before offering Emery a gentle smile whilst she placed a hand on his shoulder. โ€œLypรกmai, agapiฬฑtรฉ,โ€ she apologized with a soft laugh, referring to him, as she did with most people, as dear. Her mother did that too. She parted her lips once more to ask him how his summer was, letting her hand rest on his shoulder still as she looked him directly in the eyes with a gentle stare.

Most people would be creeped out by the invasion but Emery was one of the few who didn't mind and she didn't think he knew how much she appreciated that. Or maybe he learned how much she appreciated and valued his friendship when she attacked Zara four years ago at the mere mention of a slight bit of teasing. โ€œTell me, how was your summer? Exciting, I hope! Surely you missed me while having your adventure?โ€ She teased him lightheartedly and poked his nose playfully before retreating back to her muffin and apple, often casting him a glance as she listened for his tale.

"It's hard not to get tanned where I'm from." Teo replies with an easy shrug, "Especially when you spend your whole summer lazing on the beach or showing lost tourist girls around town."

Anita smiled at this, she had only visited Italy once, and it had been in the winter when she was very young, but she had always wanted to go in the summer.

"I'm sure they just wanted a handsome Italian man to rave to their friends about, you're still not as dark as me though," she laughed jokingly at the thought of tourist girls fawning over Teo.

She of course had enough hot weather in India, but the idea of Italy in the summer seemed so romantic and beautiful. Teo's voice brought Anita out of her thoughts.

"How were your holidays?" He asks Anita as he picks up another two pieces of toast. He grabs some bacon, a spoonful of eggs, and anything else that grabs his attention, making it into one magnificent sandwich. "Did you go to any weddings?"

She chuckled at his enthusiasm for Indian weddings, and finished her toast quickly, wiping the crumbs off the side of her mouth. Her summer had been rather uneventful as opposed to others that she had before. She had worked on her dancing and played the harp, having dinner with her entire family nearly every night, which was normal. "My summer was okay, with the usual restricting parents thing," She sighed, thinking about how her parents had not let her go out with her friends as much as she would have liked to, they had even made her attend some wedding meetings. เคตเคฟเคตเคพเคน เคฎเฅ‡เคฐเฅ€ เคฎเฅŒเคค เคนเฅ‹ เคœเคพเคเค—เฅ€. Arranged marriage will be the death of me.

"My aunt Nalika married a wealthy businessman, the wedding was so elaborate. I wish I had pictures to show you and, yes they had two elephants," She knew that he was fascinated by the elephants. "The dresses were so beautiful, I'll have to invite you to the next one," she smiled at him.

Anita looked up to glance around the room to see if anyone else she knew had arrived, she saw Eithene talking to Jae over at the Vorne table and then turned her head, finding Vix to be staring at Teo rather pensively. She wondered what was going through the girl's mind, since she always seemed to think so thoroughly about things, instead of calling out to her Anita turned her head back to Teo.

Perhaps he could travel and see India with her, it was a possibility, he would certainly love it, that she knew. Of course there was the issue that her was male, and not Indian, so her parents would never let him in the house and they thought that she was going to an all girls school, so that would be a problem, and with the issue of cost factored in, she sighed deeply. "On the other hand, since that could be really hard, I could just bring pictures," she said, knowing that he knew how her parents were, well, he knew half of it.

Teo listens contently as Anita talks about her holidays, giving an empathetic nod as she mentions her strict parents. He takes a bite of the food in front of him, letting the taste explode on his tongue before swallowing his mouthful. He loved his mother's cooking, there was nothing like a home-cooked meal, but he always looked forward to that first meal at Magdalena and the plethora of food that was always prepared. On more than one occasion he had tried to explain to his family how much food was produced and how it magically appeared when meal time began. They hadn't quite understood the scale to which the food was produced, nor the various tastes that muggle food could not acquire.

Teo's ears perk up as Anita mentions inviting him to the next wedding. He nods happily, his mouth too full of food for him to risk speaking. He's sure an Indian wedding in India would be even better then his sister's friend's wedding that he'd attended in the break. His feet were still sore from the hours of dancing that had occurred. The 30 minute walk from the groom's house to the bride's house had taken the groom's party three hours to traverse. Lights, loud music, dancing, and fireworks and decorated the streets as the group had passed. The number of guests had swelled too, with curious onlookers being invited in by the groom's friends. Teo imagines that a magical wedding in this style would be even better than the muggle affair.

Of course, as Anita sighs as promises pictures instead Matteo remembers all the girl has told him about her parents. While Teo never liked to pry, he is aware that Mr and Mrs Kapoor aren't the most lenient of caregivers. Finally finishing his meal Teo offers Anita a cheerful smile, hoping to rise her spirits again. "You know, a photo would be amazing." He says, "It'll be like a constant party in my hand." One of the many differences between the muggle and wizarding world is the photos, and Matteo loves the idea of having a picture of an Indian wedding because he knows that the wizard version would have moving, dancing figures. If he couldn't actually get to a wedding, a picture would be the next best thing.

Matteo finally finishes his meal and is apparently fully satisfied. Pushing his plate away slightly he rests his elbows on the table and then rests his head on his hands. The grand hall is as loud as always, everyone rushing to fill their friends in on their holiday break, yet it's not hard to hear his Indian friend over the mass of voices. "So, are you looking forward to your sixth year? Did you did alright in your O.W.L.s?" The question is more to keep the flow of conversation going, rather than a genuine concern as Matteo is sure that Anita did very well in her 5th year examinations.

The school year had officially begun.

After the breakfast feast, orientation started for all students. First years; or as referred to by the headmaster, ersten Jahren, made things especially hectic, but they always did. Compassion was something the staff often enforced. Students of every grade had been there before, therefore it was nobodyโ€™s job to hassle them.

A week forward, students should now have had their schedules in order, and even maybe have gotten a little more sleep in the comfort of their dorms, which were located on the upper floors, comprised of balconies and bridges stringing over the view of the entrance hall. All fashioned and lit by enchanted lanterns that glowed with orange autumn light.

It had been a rainy week, some couldnโ€™t even recall seeing the sun once during the first days of school. Nonetheless, the alumni kept the homecoming festivities rolling, but it wasnโ€™t long until a gloom began to settle. It wasnโ€™t any early-winter gloom that most experienced around this time. It was hardly winter yet in Germany. Something was clearly depressing the atmosphere.

Rumors of dragon sightings began to travel. Spreading like a wildfire, every student had to have heard something by the wake of the second week. Muggles had even apparently caught sight of the supposed โ€UFOsโ€, but unfortunately the students were left in the dark.

Eventually, the ministry had sent word to Magdalena of the recent encounters, and Professor Hawthorne publicly and personally explained to staff and students what was occurring Monday morning.

โ€œ'Professor Decimus Wendell Hawthorne,'โ€ chuckles rose among the students as the Headmaster read aloud the statement from the Minister himself. With a grunt and a half smile of his own, the Professor continued extravagantly. โ€œ'And to all whom it may concern at Magdalena Academy of Magical Education.

โ€œโ€˜It is to my dismay that I inform the wizarding communities of Germany and nearby settlements about the recent sightings of Chinese dragons. Iโ€™m afraid I have no personal knowledge as to why theyโ€™ve left their country to journey as far as Europe, but we know for certain that they have become a danger to central Germany. Chinese dragons arenโ€™t known to act up as weโ€™ve seen this past week, attacking farms, and increasingly populated places.โ€™โ€ Hawthorne trailed off, dropping the letter down on the podium and tightening his jaw.

โ€œAs you all know, and it goes without saying, the school will be carrying out lockdown procedures. I understand that this isnโ€™t how any of you would like to start your Monday, but it looks as though we havenโ€™t got any choice.โ€ Hawthorne leaned heavily down upon the neatly engraved podium. It was true, he never liked laying down bad news, but it was not in his nature to sugarcoat subjects like this. โ€œThis means herbology, and other outdoor classes, will be heavily supervised, and dungeons will be utilized if those dragons come too close for comfort.โ€

The Headmaster, gazed down at the letter that sat before him, but he only nodded as if just agreeing with his decisions. โ€œSo, all that is left to say is enjoy your breakfast.โ€ His tone defaulted to that of more positivity, and he turned to take his seat, leaving the students to their own thoughts.

With that, the second week had begun, and it wasnโ€™t shaping out to be a good one.

Magdalena had never been quite as entertaining as when it was threatened with dragons. The rumours that had been circulating for the past few days had been an increasingly interesting source of distraction for the students, Zara included. Dragons, particularly Chinese dragons, were rare sights in the middle of Europe, at least outside of zoos. What they were doing this far west had been a much discussed topic in the past week among the students who had put stock in the flimsy rumours floating around. The sceptics among them had dismissed the rumours as fanciful tales, but even they couldn't ignore a message from the minister.

As soon as the headmaster took his seat the hall exploded in talk. From where she sat Zara could hear excited whispers from some, while others were already drawing out quills and parchment to write a hasty letter to their loved ones. Zara really couldn't care less. Sure, she'd hardly wish to be caught out in the open by the fire-breathing beasts, but she highly doubted that the dragons would get as far as Magdalena. Even if they did, given the number of teachers on hand they wouldn't likely cause much harm. As for her family in Germany, she had complete faith in their abilities to handle a dragon, or at least hire a wizard or witch who could. Besides, her family were not without connections and could always leave the country until the danger had passed.

Zara had to roll her eyes at the amount of worried expressions she could see around her. She spotted one first year girl sitting just down from her about to burst into tears. "Pathetic" Zara thought to herself, before turning her attention on the ever-hungry Lucie beside her, who appeared more concerned with not leaving breakfast hungry than with the realisation that dragons could threaten the school. "You'll give yourself a stomach ache if you eat all of that too fast." Zara warned, eyeing the increasing mountain of food piled on Lucie's plate. Then again, Zara had seen her friend eat far more than this and be fine. With a sigh and a half-concealed smile Zara begins to prepare her own breakfast, picking a smaller and far less extravagant plate than her neighbour.

"So, what subject have you got first?" Lucie asked a moment later, midway through a bowl of cereal. Despite a week having already passed Lucie had still not come to grips with her own schedule, and had it currently set on the table in front of her as she gazed ahead at her Monday subjects.
"I have advanced transfiguration, and then we've both got herbology." Zara replied, having already put most of her weekly schedule to memory, not because she's a particularly good student, rather because she detests having to constantly consult her timetable. "I suppose we'll get to experience being heavily supervised." She added, feeling slightly put out by it. With more eyes watching the outdoor classes it would mean she would have to be even more subtle with her spells when the compulsion to bully struck. Zara feels her lips form a smirk, "Oh well, it'll just be more of a challenge."

Matteo's initial reaction to the Headmaster's announcement is one of excitement. He's never seen a dragon in the wild or even in captivity. While they might not be his favourite of supernatural beasts, he'd definitely put them not too far behind his preferred favourites. His heart does do a minor flip as he worries about the implications for his favourite subject, Care of Magical Creatures, but he's relieved to hear that it and the other outdoor classes will still be held, merely with more supervision. Matteo's next thought is to wonder whether quidditch will still run as it has. He assumes that house practices, if they're still on, will be included in the list of heavily supervised outdoor activities. His heart does another little skip as he pictures quidditch being temporarily shut down. Surely they would never be that cruel.

The hall erupts with noise as the Headmaster's announcement ended. Everyone seems to have an opinion on the dragons and why they might have travelled so far afield. Across from Matteo two of his housemates are arguing over whether the Chinese dragons had come to Germany because A) they had been called by a Master Dragon that apparently resided in Germany, or B) they had decided to migrate because the weather was better in Deutschland.

"Maybe they're just on a holiday." Matteo suggests, a wide grin on his face. The two young wizards across from him mirror his grin.
"Do you think they'll take anything home as a souvenir?" The one on the right adds, happy to go along with the joke. "A burnt sheep, or scorched tree maybe." He adds. Matteo lets out a chuckle, shaking his head at the ridiculous nature of the conversation.
"How cool would it be if they actually come here." the one of the left adds a moment later, his eyes slightly unfocused as he imagines the mighty dragons landing on the school's astronomy tower. Matteo shrugs, as much as he'd love to see a dragon he's not sure a wild dragon at school would be the best idea.
"I'd like to see one, but not if it means having to be locked in the dungeons while the teachers deal with them." He says, "Besides, what if it burnt down the quidditch pitch?" Matteo's own face is almost pale at the mere thought of it and his two acquaintances, one of whom is also on the Eden quidditch team, quickly lose their smiles.
"Don't speak such words Teo, you'll give me a heart attack." The one of the right says, clutching at a glass of water and gulping down several mouthfuls.

Matteo nods his head in apology before turning his eyes on his breakfast. As he chews through a particularly delicious croissant stuffed with everything within arm's reach, he lets his mind wonder over what this will mean for the school. It has certainly made for an interesting start to the second week, that's for sure.

Excited - Tired
Magdalena Academy
September 8th

Ani entered the hall late, as she had accidentally overslept, and the Headmaster had just ended his speech. "เค…เคชเคถเคฌเฅเคฆ shit," she swore and sighed dramatically, it must have been rather interesting, considering the contained chaos that erupted throughout the hall. Of course today was the first night where she had actually slept deeply, the sudden time difference and weather change always messed with her sleep schedule. She was still tired, though not as much has she had been the past couple of days, and though she had planned to look nice to today, Ani had just ended up throwing her hair up into a bun to avoid the annoying task of brushing it, which she never used magic for. She felt as though she looked like she had just rolled out of bed, which she technically had, but shook the feeling of and set forth into the crowded and loud hall. She scanned the sea of students for a familiar face and found Teo easily.

They never had really finished their conversation on the first day back, they had been interrupted by the welcoming speech, so she didn't know his schedule all to well. She walked over and sat down next to him, furrowing her brows in confusion as he ans his friends mentioned dragons. She most certainly needed some clarification if this was what the Headmaster speech was about. it would certainly explain the confusion in the hall.

"What is all this dragon talk about?" She asked, grinning hello at all of them, if there were dragons here that would mean that her Herbology class later this morning would be supervised extra carefully. She didn't particularly enjoy the class anyway, it never was her strong suit, but this would make it even worse. She grabbed some toast and jam. Although she wasn't scared of dragons, she had seen them a couple of times since her uncle worked with them, though they were Indian dragons which meant they were of a smaller, but ferocious breed.

She looked across the hall to see other people's reactions. Since she kept hearing the word dragon over again, she figures that there really must have been a sighting. At the Vorne table she could see Zara and Draven smirking at each other, no doubt planning something or making fun of the others who were panicking around them, she threw a smile their way, their attitude was certainly justified and expected, it wasn't as if the teachers were throwing them out to defeat the dragons in hand-to-hand combat.

Zara gives a derisive snort as Draven mentions the 'Hot One Hundred' list. Modesty is one trait that appears to have bypassed Draven completely. Of course, if one were to look at Zara's own personality one would also find a distinct lack of the trait. "I wasn't aware that we had a list, or even enough heart throbs to make up one hundred." Zara replies, "Twenty perhaps might be a better estimate of this school's male population. But I'll allow that you would make the top five." She's just teasing now, playfully denying Draven the top spot.

Zara's attention is drawn away from Draven by the arrival of another of her friends, Kiera Lance. Kiera and Zara have not always seen eye to eye, in fact there was a time when the two were bitter rivals. However, time and perhaps a better understanding of the other, has seen the two become friends. Zara may still feel the odd competitive pang around Kiera, but that hasn't stopped her from enjoying the other girl's company. Right now Zara is rather pleased with Kiera's arrival as the pair haven't had much of an opportunity to catch up yet. Kiera takes a seat on the table, proclaiming that she can be the school champion.

Before Zara can reply Draven does. Zara well knows Draven's prejudice against muggle borns and isn't too surprised to hear him insulting Kiera based on her blood-status. While Zara herself is purebood she prefers to discriminate people based on their personality, appearance and so forth. Blood status has little to do with it in her eyes, she's just as likely to trip up a pureblood as she is a muggleborn if they get on her nerves. However, while she herself is slightly less prejudiced than Draven, she has yet to admonish him for his views. So, while she might not actively bully someone based on their ancestry, she rarely steps in to put a stop to it.

"Such drama and it is still so early in the day." Zara says. She places a calming hand on Draven's shoulder, while glancing up at Kiera, "Don't mind Draven, Kiera, he's just crushed that you didn't compliment him on his hair." Zara turns her attention back to Draven. Her hand brushes an imaginary piece of dust off his shoulder as she adds, "It's looking lovely by the by, and did you work out over the holidays? You can definitely tell." It's one part an attempt to mend his wounded ego, and one part gentle teasing. Both Draven and Kiera are strong individuals. She has no doubt that a battle of wits between the two would be an interesting affair to watch, Zara suspects that neither would back down without a fight. While that would surely be entertaining, and Zara is still questioning whether she'd attempt to step in if it came to blows, she also knows that in the middle of the Great Hall is not the ideal location for it.

"You two make a girl feel so safe." She says a moment later, removing her hand from Draven's shoulder and holding it over her heart in a mock 'damsel in distress' fashion. "I know who to call if those dragons come calling. It is exactly what I would expect from Stark's Head Girl and Magdalena's own top one hundred hottie."

There is definitely something to be said with regards to a warm breakfast. Nothing quite hits the spot like bacon and eggs washed down with a side of fresh, pulpy orange juice. Most people are aware of Matteo's mountainous appetite, perhaps only rivaled by the 6th year Lucie (Zara's friend) from Vorne house. His appetite and love of food is the reason his sisters nicknamed him Grasso from a young age, and the reason all of the elves in the kitchen know him by name and vice versa. He knows that he only has to ask his favourite elf, Bringles, for a particular item and the elf will have it ready for him in the blink of an eye.

Even all this talk about dragons does little to dampen Matt's appetite and he's halfway through his colossal meal when Anita Kapoor takes a seat beside him. She apparently has missed the announcement that dragons have been spotted in Germany, but has easily caught on to enough gossip floating around the hall to know that something regarding dragons is up. Teo happily takes it upon himself to fill his friend in on the gossip, "Headmaster just announced that Chinese Dragons have been seen in Germany. All outdoor classes will be heavily supervised and we're to run screaming to the dungeons if we see a dragon flying towards us." Teo's embellishment brings a grin to his face.

He's only slightly perturbed at the thought of having more supervision at Care of Magical Creatures. He hopes all the extra supervision won't put off the animals. Some species don't like large crowds and some of the creatures that are regulars to the class, those that live on the grounds with the CoMC's teacher or in the forest, have only just grown comfortable with Matteo. He'd hate to think what a sudden rush of strangers would do to the more jumpy ones. Then again, he suspects that a dragon attack would have far worse consequences than a couple of supervising teachers. "You know, I don't mind this whole supervision thing... just as long as they don't spook the animals." He says to Anita a moment later.
