Lucie looked out the window as they approached the college. She groaned inwardly, wishing to be anywhere but here. She didn't understand. She was nice, and social, and pretty. How did she not get noticed?
She looked up to the front as Elmo announced he lived in an apartment as well. Mentally she pleaded that it wouldn't be her complex, Evergreen Grove. She hadn't ever seen him around there, but just the other day she met someone who'd lived there twenty years. She looked down at her watch. Great. Not only were they on time, they were a few minutes early. Lucie hated that. She liked to get to the college right as the bell rang for the students to head to classes. It allowed her to block out the rest of the world as she rushed to class. She'd never once been late, and she never worried she would be, but she'd honestly rather be late than early.
She glanced up and met Elmo's eyes in the rearview mirror. She couldn't look away for a moment, but as he parked the car she managed to tear her eyes away. She felt heat rising into her cheeks and was mortified. How was he affecting her like this? She had to get out, had to get away from him. Trying to be quick but casual she gathered her things and opened the car door.
