Richard Amore

The pride-filled, warrior prince of Lingaria. You may address him as 'Your Royal Highness'.

0 · 906 views · located in The World of Thern

a character in “Stuck In This World And Stuck With You”, as played by Captain Awesome

Description

Image

Name: His Royal Highness, Prince Richard, of House Amore, son of His Grace, King William, and Her Majesty, Queen Melissa, and heir to the throne of Lingaria
Gender: Male
Age: 18

Appearance: Richard stands at a reasonable 5'10 and weighs 144 lbs. (199 lbs. in his armor). While his facial features, childish dark brown hair, and Lingarian-pale skin somewhat hold the appearance of being a 'milklivered' young boy, the Prince of Lingaria is all but that when up close (for most, at least). With his crow-ish, brown eyes, and everlastingly stern facial expression, Richard practically breathes the feeling of authority. His outfit consists of a fine, silk, black-with gold trim overcoat, a black-with gold trim cape, worn over his right shoulder, dark gray cloth undershirt, black, cloth trousers, quality, dark gray boots, made from an exquisite leather, and normally carries an elegant, brass-accented, black cane. With it, he may find himself slouching a little bit but, when holding it off of the ground or not using it, you will never see His Royal Highness in a pride-lacking stance for a second.

Equipment: A high-quality arming sword, made with command in mind, named 'Arbiter'. Full plate armor of tempered steel over layers of riveted mail and gambeson.

Image

Abilities: Richard uses a very royal style of swordsmanship, combined with his own ruthless tactics of brute force; sometimes going as far as to punch his opponent when in close range, or slam his body into an opponent when in close range, while wearing his armor. While it is quite reckless, it proves to be quite devastating to his opponents in one-on-one combat.

Personality: Richard is, by no means, tactful. He can be very cold and upfront and even comes across as calculating. He knows his place in society, and, while he will not rub it in your face, he is not afraid to express this birthright.
Because of his way of seemingly breathing nothing but authority and discipline, others often see him as something other than human but he does have a side to him that others would deem human. It exists, but really only gets brought out by his mother and her ability to practically see right through Richard's skin and into how he really feels about matters.

Backstory: Richard was raised mainly by his father. He is practically hardwired to be a ruler, and a damn-good one, by the standards of the King of Lingaria. He never had what most people would consider to be a real childhood but that was not because of his father. It was always his own choice to pour over his studies to become, in his and his father's opinion, the best man he could be.
Now, he is the pride-and-joy of his father, and a capable general. The stormy disposition that came with this mentality, however, has made his mother and younger sister rather disappointed with how he has turned out...

Horse: An ebony-black Frisian light draft warhorse stallion, named 'Pilott'. Stubborn, much like his master, and has a very large amount of tough endurance, as needed for a warhorse which not only carries its fully-armored master but a set of armor for itself as well. However, he is not a very fast horse, compared to other breeds.

So begins...

*Click-clack-click-clack*-goes the road as horses, men, wagons, and carriages alike pass along the cold cobblestone in the early morning.
Near the front of the convoy rides a young man, dressed in clothing that would seem to fit that of much harsher weather than a bit of dew and accompanying Autumn chill. The jet-black horse he rides also looks to be a bit too large to be carrying anything shy of a man in a suit of jousting armor, and perhaps the anvil its steel was shaped on. The clanking of steel plates have been the only noise that seems to be present anymore. When riding for the whole day and hearing nothing but that sound, it almost seems as if it has overwritten the existence of all other sounds. But now that his final destination has come to view over the distant horizon, what can one do but sigh a deep breath of relief?...

------------------------------

The sun has since risen upon the outside world and the people, working to let each other exist. It is so obnoxiously loud outside but the walls of a bedroom protect its inhabitant from that danger, just as the drapes protect her from the sunlight, shining on that obnoxious, outside world. Imaginary knights in shining armor and caretakers protect her from her dark room, keeping her safely inside the cozy, castle world of her subconscious...
But, just then, A SIEGE!!!
"Your Highness! Please get up, your father awaits your presence. Remember, today is the day your future husband, and his family are supposed to arrive?" An older woman's voice. The cause of this breach of tranquility comes from behind the door.

In the depths of dream land a certain princess was having a wonderful dream. Glorious knights in shinning armor were there within the walls of the castle. She stood by watching in awe as each practiced the many different skills they knew. Naturally her brother Ewan was there and like always she enjoyed watching him. There was another who's face was familiar, but she could not quite remember who he was. However she enjoyed watching him as well, he was very skilled in what he did. Then a bell began to alarm the whole city, trouble was amuck and she listened closely as someone began to shout.

"Your Highness! Please get up..." Wait what was that? Maira's eyes fluttered open as she was ripped from her dream land. She glanced around her for a moment before she realized what was truly going on. Yawning she finally got herself up and made her way to the door in her nightgown.

"Thank you dear Constance, if it wasn't for you I would have just slept the day away." Maira said sweetly to the older woman standing there at the door. She stepped aside to let her come in as she quickly hurried around the Princess' room. She first opened the blinds as she went off saying something about how today would be a big. Maira shielded her eyes from the sunlight for a moment as she realized what would happen today.

Her future husband, Richard, whom she hadn't seen in she couldn't remember how many years, was to arise today. Oh how her heart sank a little as she thought about it. What she could remember about Richard was he was just so...dull. He ripped the fun out of everything it seemed like, though he did have a funny accent which had always caused her to giggle. Yet now she was supposed to marry him and this worried her. Was her life doomed to be a boring one from now on?

She wondered what he looked like now. She knew she had changed a lot since he last saw her. She still had looked like the boyish little princess she was when she was younger when she last saw him. Now she had grown into a woman and acted for the most part how a princess should.

As her thoughts came to an end, Constance was finishing up helping her get ready for the day. Her half of her hair was pulled back away from her face while the other half was left down to be it's natural wavy self. The head piece she often wore was placed upon her head. She was now ready, dressed in her favorite dress. "Thank you for helping me Constance." She said kindly to the woman as she held both of her hands in hers as she kissed the woman's cheek quickly before leaving the room.

Out in the hall she ran into Ewan who was dressed up nicely and he gave her a smile. "Why don't you look lovely today my dear sister. Care to accompany me to greet our guests?" He asked as he offered his arm to his sister. His words made Maira giggle as she nodded and linked her arm around her brothers as they made their way down to meet the rest of their family and their guests.

Meanwhile, at the city's front gate, the city guard are on full alert.
"OPEN THE GATE!", calls the guard captain.
"Open the gate!", yells the officer in charge of the men at the gate controls.
"Open the gate.", says one of the guards to the other as they get up and begin pulling down on the crank to open the city gate. Through it comes a small force, approximately 100 yards long, with two carriages and 3/4 of a dozen wagons of supplies. Fathers and mothers stand in front of their homes to watch the foreign royalty pass by; daughters watch from their parents' feet, looking at the horses; sons smile in awe at the sight of heavy infantry, heavy cavalry, and their neat-looking, heavy weapons. Not a peak back from the men. They know it breaks the look of uniformity to make so much as a glance. Despite the various colors, that fit together with black and gold, and crests layered on their tabards, they very much achieve this goal of looking as all one man in many positions of rows and many rows of the whole line.
"OPEN THE GATE!"
The routine repeats down through the chain of command among the city watch as the army nears the inner gate, holding the palace and resounding chambers. Just as the frontal line of banner bearer cavalry and royal guard cavalry gets to the edge of the gate...

"Para~ADE!...HALT!!" A young voice among the cavalry. His order sounds more like the poor man was just given the gift of a front kick to square in the chest than a command of some kind but his men heed it regardless. The sound of the couple hundred men marching, all currently on their right foot, stops with a single, thunderous stomp of one final step. And then the simultaneous, sharp roar of, not men, but a corps of loyal machines of metal, made to look like men-at-arms. "IYE!"
Silence. Not a peep from anything but the light, Autumn breeze and a restless warhorse....
"FORCE...PA~TH!!" The young voice practically growls the second word of the apparent order like a dog. It would probably be rather funny, if it were not for the fact that this inaudible, yelling mumble seems to control the entire force in front of the courtyard the country's royal family stands in.
"IYE!", roar back the men. The ranks of men all face left or right, depending on whichever side they are closest to, with a smooth, uniform, sliding movement of their feet, followed by a step back into attention position. Just as quick as the position of the men changed, they do so again by having each line walk forward to open up a path, starting with the men at the front of the previous line, and showing the first carriage and two warmly-dressed men in front of it. The force of men creating the path for this small convoy all make an about haste and turn around, each returning to the same attention position without a second move necessary. Each man clicks his heels together perfectly fine and each man makes the 180-degree turn to face back inward at each other. Meanwhile, the cavalry at the front have already made their way to their own respective sides inside the inner wall, lining up to form a path, through the courtyard of stone, to the royal family.
The cavalryman closest to the group of people out in the courtyard-in the ranks of their right side-is a young man, dressed much like the two back in front of the carriages, and wielding a sword not like the others'; having a much more elegant appearance to it.

With the pathway finally finished, the two men and the carriages they lead make their way through the rows upon rows of men to the front and only make it there after what seems like an eternity. Once they make it to the front, the man leading the carriages dismounts his horse and steps down, followed by the, apparently slightly taller, other man, and barely turning around before calling out a warm greeting. "Hamish! How good it is to see you!"
The king responds back, "William, my friend! It's been far too long! What's with the whole display you got going here?" He gestures to the rows of men though it is kind of hard not to...
"Ah, them? Excuse the unannounced formalities, it has been so long since our last visit. Since then, it has been young Richard's coming of age and I figured now was as good o' time as ever to show how capable of a man he's become."
"I see." The king looks up and to the right at the young man on the black horse. The taller man at the kings side finally pipes up.
"Nephew, get off your high-horse! You're makin' yerse'f look like a damn fool-not greeting your new family like that!"
The voice is harsh. One fit for a very hard man of past conflicts. "Please excuse him, he's got more heart than he does any sense..."

The young man, apparently being Richard, dismounts his own horse and walks over to his father and uncle while the rest of his immediate, and extended, family begin exiting the carriages, with the help of a pair of royal guardsmen each. His skin: pale, like the rest of his people's due to the cloudy nature of his home country, Lingaria. He stands tall and has a very royal appearance to his manner of dress. His carry itself even seems to breathe authority. However, his hair, his features, even down to his expression resemble that of a boy's. If he were dressed as a peasant, one might have difficulty deciding if they should hide behind a wall or rub his head.

The young prince lightly bows to King Hamish. "Y'Grace..." A much smaller voice than before, sharply contrasting to his previous orders. Then, of course, Maira on the king's right-hand side. With a slight hesitation, the boy takes her hand. Speaking, "Yer Highness...", before leaning over and kissing it. The rest follow, greeting each other as friends. King William (39), Queen Melissa (34), Princess Anne (8), Prince Killian (William's brother-37), Princess Rachel (William's sister-in-law-34), Prince Daniel (Killian's son-16), and Prince Abner (Killian's second son-12).

Maira stood with her family, her father and mother to her left with her elder brother to her right. The twins were beside their mother as they all watched the parade. Personally Maira thought the whole thing was the silliest looking thing in her life. What was the point of all the fancy display of power? It was rather ridiculous to her, though she kept her thoughts to herself. "It's almost like a well organized circus act." Ewan leaned down and whispered to Maira which in turn caused Maira to burst out in a giggle. The pair then noticed the disapproving look of their mother and gave apologetic looks.

"You're going to get me in trouble Ewan." She whispered to him, but still had an amused smile on her face. He just gave her a smile back as the King of Lingaria greeted their father. They stood in silence as they watched the scene unfold. Maira barely recognized Richard up on his horse, but her attention was turned to him when his uncle told him to get off his high horse.

"I'm not sure the lad knows how to get off his high horse." Ewan mumbled facetiously so only Maira could hear him. She let out a snorting sound as she tried to suppress another giggle while Richard approached.

Both siblings watched as he greeted their father and then hesitated ever so slightly to take Maira's hand and kiss it after greeting her. She was almost tempted to pull her hand away from him, but figured that would have been rude. Instead she gave him a courtesy and small smile. "Nice to see you again Richard." She said in her sweet voice, unsure of how to greet him. She then realized it may not have been okay to use his first name like that, but what's done was done.

"I'm so glad you all could make it. There shall be a ball in your honor layer tonight, bit until then shall we retire to my study?" King Hamish suggested to the King and Queen of Lingaria along with their elder Don and his wife. Before he was about to lead the way, however, he turned to his daughter. "Maira why don't you show your future husband around for a bit yes?" He formed it in a question, but she could tell by his look it was an order.

"Of course Papa." She responded while she originally tried hiding a cringe. She turned her attention back to Richard then. "Would you care to accompany me out to the gardens first maybe?" She asked him politely. She couldn't help but notice Ewan looking Richard over and almost giving him a warning look, threatening in a way to say not to hurt his little sister. Ewan stood taller than Richard with being six foot and could often be very intimidating to many. He was essentially trying to intimidate Richard at the moment.

It doesn't take a detective to notice the girl bubbling up there, giggling and quietly snorting like a child.
Glad to see you haven't changed, my dear Lady Maira.
Richard simply exhales a soft sigh through his nose. He knew this ball would prove to be a dreadful waste of time just to dress up like some kind of pompous ass and go twirl around an open floor to the cue of music. The reason why Richard is here is to create a political bond for the gain of his country and the protection of a profitable Alliance and nothing more.

Just as Richard expects to escape the trivial matters of this pact he is involved in to possibly discuss the coming aid his father's forces would provide, he finds himself pulled into a situation he cannot escape, for it involves such social politics and customs he was just hoping to avoid. That and his father and soon-to-be father-in-law are both watching him...as well as someone else.
Aaah yes. Ewan. You've not changed either from YOUR puffed up hen-self...
Richard does not give the man-almost a full head taller than him-the satisfaction of having to lift his chin to him. Instead he turns his head a little away and tilts it to the side to look up at the man acting as foolish as ever, and casually looks right back into his eyes like the autocratic-isk young man Richard has remained.
...Not one bit.

The young man then turns his head very slightly to match direction with his fiancée before giving his reply.
"I would find nothing more enjoyable," he abhors though masks it behind his usual almost monotone speech. Ah yes, Donersland's royal gardens. Richard has spent at least a little bit of time there before in past visits with Princess Maira in order to please his mother and heed to her wishes. As a boy, he used to always do as his mother asked of him but now he is a man and, though she still proves to bring about some kind of weakness in him, he could not seem to bring himself to adhere to such relatively pointless wishes and suggestions she gives.
He can recall one such visit to the gardens with a very young Maira. Richard was but five years old at the time and it was his first visit to another country that he can consciously remember.
'Itchar! Wanna pway in d'fwowers?'-The naive little girl had asked.
'Wanna shuddup?'-Richard had quickly responded. It was quite rude of him but what was she to expect asking a little boy if he wanted to play in flowers? At least he knew his proper gender role as a little boy, unlike her on the other hand, when she proceeded to punish his rude response with a particularly rough, wooden stick...
They never quite got along, the two. Every visit of theirs always seemed to consist of Richard, by request of his mother, accompanying the childish Donerslander princess somewhere on the palace grounds (most often to the garden), her trying to get him to stop playing on his own, and then him shooting her down. Rinse and repeat. Now here he is again, in that same garden, walking past that same spot of the cobblestone path, on which he found himself bleeding all over from the blunt trauma of a stick, and wondering exactly what they are to talk about here.
Of course Richard was not going to cave into humoring her this time simply for the sake of politics. He does not care for the trivialities to come of this relationship and will not break to the demands of such.

Ewan's gaze didn't falter one bit as Richard looked at him. Maira looked between the two men and shook her head. It appeared Richard hadn't changed at all and she began to dread marrying him even more. She quickly gave her brother a glance before turning to lead the way to the gardens. While Richard and her left so did the others, the men heading for her father's study while their mothers and the younger children were sure to go off to do their own thing together.

The trip to the garden was silent which Maira didn't mind one bit. When they got there she remembered the time she had beat him with a stick and smirked a little bit to herself. "Hey Richard wanna play in the flowers?" She mocked as she glanced at him before chuckling to herself a bit as she continues on in a direction. If someone paid close attention they would be able to tell she was on a mission and wasn't just aimlessly wandering the garden.

"Well now that we're away from prying eyes and ears I feel we can speak honestly with each other." She began as she looked at him. "I know you don't like me even a wee bit and I assure you those feelings are mutual. In fact I think you're an ass. However just like you are doing this to protect an alliance and gain land for your people I am also doing this to protect my people. So perhaps we should try and get along and make the best of this yes?" As she finished her speech they came to a wall. It was part of the kitchen of the castle and jutted out from the side of the castle. Right up above the room for the kitchen you could see a window and if you listened closely you could hear familiar voice.

Wasting no time Maira lifted her skirts some so she could kick off her shoes. She walked up to the stone wall of the kitchen and began to climb up the wall. She did so with such ease to suggest that she had done this before. Once on the roof of the kitchen and just below the window she looked down to Richard. "Well come on then. I know you wish to listen in to the politics our fathers are about to talk about. I've kindly provided you the opportunity to do so, so hurry yourself up here." She said with her hands placed on her hips. She kept her tone a little quieter in order to keep them from being discovered.

Richard's particularly narrow sense of humor misses the joke in the princess' rhetorical question. "I'd rather enjoy them from here," he says as a returned call-back to their childhood however he continues to use his ever-so-familiar unamused tone of voice. He simply follows close behind the girl as they wander deeper into the garden until she talks of speaking honestly toward each other.
He can barely hold himself back after the 'ass' comment. "-And you're still a child," he adds. "I can't make a promise to get along with someone who obviously wont be able to keep it herself," Richard states, rather than admits. Lets face it, that was probably the truest statement he has ever said to her. Neither of them were going to get along with each other up until the day he leaves for the front for the first time and he knew it.
"I'll help preserve your country, perform my duties as your husband and stay out of your hair when our family are not a factor of it."
Thinking tactically; as it always seems is the only way Richard can.
"Of course, that unfortunately means we will be putting up with the situation for a short while for now..." The boy-ish prince loses himself in thought of what he could be looking at in the future only to wake back up when Maira begins to step up on the wall.

Confused at what exactly she plans to do, Richard crosses his arms at the girl. "How do you expect to get up-"
But it is already too late. Her hands and feet seem to stick to the wall of stones and mortar and she seems to climb up relatively easily. "You know I'm going to have to catch you if you slip, right? Don't hurt yourself."
To Richard's limited relief, Maira beats Murphy's law and reaches the top of the joined structure perfectly fine before calling back down to him with a challenge.
"You should have suggested it before you took the initiative of climbing up there so I could have told you 'no'," the bored prince calls up, not caring to monitor his volume to defend such reckless and integrity-lacking behavior. "At least then I could have easily explained that I, Killian, Daniel, and your brother Ewan all will be apart of plenty such meetings."
He crosses his arms. "We've no need for such subterfuge."

Every time Richard spoke, Maira felt like she wanted to pound her head up against the stone wall. She couldn't understand how a person could never just loosen up and was always so dull. He only thought tactically and she never once could ever remember him smiling. She could feel anger boiling up in her as he talked, however she tried to push it aside. Anger would never get them anywhere and she almost felt challenged to try and get along with him now. She felt like she could possibly do it, couldn't he at least try?

"Richard please for once in your life can you just loosen up some and have some fun?" She sighed as she now sat down on the edge of the wall. "I understand you will be part of more of these meetings, but you are not a part of this meeting. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe there's reason behind that other than them just wanting you to spend time with me? Perhaps they plan on talking about things that they didn't want you to hear about? Just ponder on that for a moment." She offered down while staring at him.

Their family knew that the two didn't get along and often times when left alone bad things happened. Would they not worry that the same thing would happen this time like every other time? Plus he had already been to their place several times before, was it really necessary for Maira to have to show Richard around? These were all questions that were going through her imaginative mind and she wasn't even sure if they were true or not.

Richard simply looks back into the charismatic princess' eyes with his own eyes of stone. "I guarantee that, while they are speaking of us, it is hardly secret material," he simply states. Richard turns away, his arms still crossed. "They know we aren't exactly made for each other. They know we should get along and they feel that, if they can coax us into spending time with one another, things will work out for the better." The prince finally shows emotion though in the form of an annoyed scowl. They know nothing...
"Especially my mother, if you've neglected to notice. I feel like she's always known this was to come about either one way or another."

Richard sighs before reacquiring his composure and returning to his regular cloudy disposition then turning back around toward Maira. His arms drop back to each side. "Our houses will be joined and I am to become your husband. Now, come down before you hurt yourself and worry our families," he urges. "I still have the duty of your protection to keep."

Maira watched Richard as he spoke, slightly shocked when he showed some emotion. She could count on one hand the times he had ever shown emotion around her and she found it very strange. She wasn't entirely sure how to react to this or even what to say. Instead she sighed in defeat as she slowly began to climb down.

"Well it surely doesn't take someone with a brain to figure out this marriage is what both of our mothers wanted all along. Why would they have always been trying to make us spend time together when they knew from day one we didn't like each other?" Maira stated, pointing out what she thought was rather obvious. She wouldn't have even been surprised if it was something her father even wanted all along.

As she was almost at the bottom, Maira's foot caught her dress causing her foot to slip. She lost grip of the wall as she fell the last couple of feet to the ground. She landed on her feet, however she stumbled and knew she was going to fall. She gasped as she reactively reached out and grabbed hold of Richard.

Richard has little time to respond before he finds himself reacting to the girl by lowering his posture a little and instinctively hooks his arms under the girl's and around into a clutch. "You know," he scolds down at the lass, "you really ought to be more careful. It's much too dangerous for a member of the royal family-much less a princess to be climbing around like that. Grow too bold and you might fall high enough to really hurt yourself. What's more, I won't always be there to catch you."
...The prince has never really had the opportunity to hold a young maiden like this. Of course, he has only recently turned old enough to marry-but a little over a year-and-a-half ago-and Richard had never been introduced any potential suitors, with the smell of a potential historical agreement brewing between the kingdoms of Lingaria and Donersland, so he has only really gotten the chance to manhandle little Anne and hug his mother in the past.
To the contempt yet alone man, it is a new sensation. He does not know how to feel about it but he brushes it off as unimportant.
"...Now, come on. I bet if we at least enter together, they wont bother us before we can go about our own schedules."
Cold, the prince remains.

Maira had closed her eyes after she reached out for Richard, expecting to fall and land on the ground. That didn't come, however, and she opened her eyes to see that Richard had caught her. He began to scold her and she knew he was right, but she didn't want to admit it. "Perhaps, but I never chose to be part of the royal family or a princess. So I'm sorry that this is me and I don't act like you think I should, but why should I have to change who I am for a title?" She glanced at him as she spoke though she knew he wouldn't see her point of view.

This was the moment she realized she was still in his arms. Her face turned a crimson red as she steadied herself and quickly turned away from him. She didn't quite understand why she had become so flustered all of a second, however she wanted to get away from him quickly before he could tease her or anything for it. "Yes yes let us go quickly, I have much I would like to get done today before dinner." She lied as she quickly began to lead the way, but at the same time making sure she was still near Richard.

________________

Finally dinner had come and Maira was on her way to the dinning room. She had sat in her room for the rest of the day once her and Richard had parted. She was still embarrassed from earlier and had plenty of time to ponder why she had reacted the way she did. Yet with all that time she still couldn't come to a conclusion. It wasn't until Constance came in to help her change into her dinner dress that she stopped thinking about it.

She entered the dining room and joined her family, sitting next to Ewan who was dressed nicely. There was an empty chair next to her which she assumed was for Richard, probably something suggested by her parents to get the two to spend more time together. At least she'd have Ewan near by this time to talk to when the conversation got boring between her and Richard.

Into the room walks Richard without his long, thick coat. His clothes now fit the much nicer climate compared to his home. His family has done the same, leaving them along with their other belongings.
It does not take much to see where the prince is to sit with his mother and sister already seated across from Maira and an empty seat. Richard's extended family sit on the other side with only his Uncle Killian missing. The only other open one, besides the two on the other side for the twins, is at the opposite head of the table and one would have to be rather dense to not understand who is to sit there.

"Anne; Mother," the boy greets, placing a hand on his sister's shoulder before sliding off and walking around the somewhat large table, toward his already assigned seat. Besides King Hamish with Queen Anabel, Anne is the first to speak.
"SoooOOOooo~, I see you came to dinner alone." The little girl serves. Without any effort and any bother to look at the child, Richard simply returns, "I was not about to bore Maira with helping me get settled in when I can do it myself." Anne strikes back, without even a pause to think, "Took an awful long time getting settled in if I say so myself. You must have had a lot to unpack..." The little girl grins.
...Only to have it wiped off practically at the snap of Richards fingers.
"Yeah, I should be like you and have my own personal servant to help me unpack. I'm fairly certain I would get done much quicker than a full half an hour of bringing my useless junk inside then. How long did you say it took you and your handmaiden to help bring all your belongings in again?"
The girl crosses her arms and pouts, purposefully looking away from her older brother in a frustrated, unbelieving defeat.

Richard's mother decides to take her turn. "You two didn't exactly visit very much after you came in either." The observation leaves a bad taste in Richards mouth. Dammit, she noticed!
"You know, it is alright if you're nervous. I can imagine you both must have such butterflies in your stomach for next week!" The words may be that of a sweet middle-aged mother to her nervous son and his fiancée but...one could not help but feel like they were being scolded...
Bleeding-Hell, father, why did you have to marry such an intelligent woman?...
All Richard can do is glance over at Maira for half of a second before looking back and replying with a simple, "yes mother," but in a tone suggesting more that he was replying with,"I know, mother..." He would like nothing more than to merely brush her suggestion off of his sleeve but he can't just simply do that to the woman. She is his mother, after all.

"Where's father and uncle?" Richard asks. Four spots remain empty at the table...
Anne answers for her mother, "They took a little longer than expected at catching up with his grace. Father said they'll be in shortly." But the little girl does not stop just yet. Her grin-less face gets replanted with a legitimate smile as she adjusts her attention to Princess Maira and her voice becomes much more natural for a girl her age; much more childish, clearly indicating a favoring of her presence.
"Dear Maira, I missed being able to play with you so much! I know he can be a big grump sometimes so If big brother bores you again, come see me. I'll make sure he's nice to you!" She only just now notices Richard staring at her the entire time she spoke and responds by simply sticking out her tongue at the boy with an accompanying sound of flatulence, to which he snaps back in retort,"-Ahn'ts you suppahst to be a princess'r'somesing?" His Lingarian accent flashing rather clearly with his bitter rhetorical question.

Maira glanced at Richard as he walked in. She could feel her mother's eyes on her as he made his way to the chair next to her. "Good evening Richard." She said politely in order to please her mother. The eyes left her daughter as she now began to make conversation with her eldest son. Maira didn't say anything else as she sat silently listening to the conversations around her.

When young Anne began to speak she turned her attention to the girl and listened. She wondered if the siblings always bickered in this way and then began to wonder if her and Ewan were ever like that. She was sure that her and her dear other brother had to have disagreed at some point, but she couldn't recall what it was about.

Then Queen Melissa began to speak and Maira bit her lip as she realized the woman noticed thay the two had gone their separate ways shortly after their arrival. She glanced at Richard at the same time he glanced at her. She could tell he felt like he was being scolded, how could he not when she also felt the same way? She got this feeling like she often did when people either got scolded or in trouble in front of her where she felt like she needed to take the blame for it. "Oh please do not blame Richard for us spending little time together today. I was feeling quite tired and wished to retire to my room, it truly was my fault for us going our separate ways today." She lied rather flawlessly as she gave the woman an apologetic look. She had always been good at making up stories and getting others to believe them.

"Oh my, are you feeling alright Maira? You aren't coming down with something are you." Maira's mother asked with concern on her face as she turned her attention to her daughter. The woman was quite blind to her daughters ruse and Maira wouldn't be surprised if the woman really believed that Maira and Richard actually liked each other. She could often be very naive and blind to many obvious things, but she was a very sweet and loving woman.

"Oh no Mama, I'm quite alright. I just didn't sleep very well last night, it must be the nerves and those butterflies in my stomach." She told her mother while she gave her a sweet smile. She wasn't lying about that, she didn't sleep well and those butterflies were more like knots. The woman was easily convinced and went back to her own business.

Maira's attention was now back to Anne as she spoke and a genuine smile came across Maira's face. She did adore the little girl as she did most children. Children were so full of life and could often bring a smile to her face. "Oh I've missed it too dearest Anne! Perhaps while you're here we can go on an adventure together." She suggested happily with a small giggle to her comment about her brother boring Maira.

When Richard spoke back to his sister's comment it took everything in her to keep from laughing. "-Ahn'ts you suppahst to be a prince'r'somesing? Yer so bitter." She mumbled so only he could hear her, mocking his accent as she acted like she was messing with something on her dress when in reality she was hiding a smile.

"So father and I have decided that after the wedding I am to lead a group of reinforcements and join in the war?" Maira heard Ewan telling their mother and Maira's face became serious as she now looked to her brother. There was obvious worry and some panic on her face.

"So soon Ewan? Can't you hold out a little longer?" She now asked her brother, voice filled with worry. She knew the day was going to come when Ewan went to join their people in the fight, but why did it have to be so soon. She feared something would happen to him even though she knew he was one of Donnerslands' best warriors.

"Our people need me Maira, you know this. The sooner I'm out there to help the better." He told his sister while looking at her for a brief moment. Maira couldn't even argue with him and instead only nodded her head. She looked back down at her dress, trying to hide her face and hold back the tears that threatened to come. She did not pay attention to any more of what was being said, but instead was trying to distract herself with one of the beads on her dress.

Richard's expression does not change from looking at Anne to glaring at Maira. He never found her mocking his accent particularly funny, especially now since he was the one speaking with somewhat of a Donerslander accent for the sake of being a guest and not for some joke that she has been unable to let go of since the time they first met.
Finally though, news of the front is uttered in his presence for the first time since Richard has gotten here. It felt refreshing to finally get somewhat down to business on the main reason why he is currently sitting at their table. "Two weeks after the date, I am to leave as well to establish a stronger presence at Willow Castle."

It was explained to him a short time before leaving his home. King Hamish would command the main force of the effort, directly in the center of the battle line and not far from the Vaullic border. King William is to be positioned with the largest Lingarian force, covering Hamish's right flank all the way to the Southern Mountains which encase Richard's home. Ewan is to cover his father's left flank with about two thirds the number of his father's army. Next to the massive force that is the Donerslander military-though nearly all spir of the moment volunteers-is Richard and Daniel with a much smaller detachment of men from his uncle's army, meant to provide a stronghold on the Northern front to act as a main hold for newly arriving forces and for which military action can be coordinated between Ewan and Prince Killian, who is to oversee the line up to the Northern coastline. Overall, the Donerslander presence dwarfs that of the Lingarians but their main purpose is to be the main push while the more steadfast Lingarians, somewhat bolstered by detachments of the more formal Donerslander military, are to shield the flanks and form a wall of flesh and steel to block enemy advances.
There have not been any major engagements of the conflict just yet but the Kingdom of Vaull has already acted on land claims for quite the large chunk of Donersland's border with them and do not show any sign of backing down from total war. That is why Richard is here...

"There is nothing more honorable than a man leaving his family and joining in the defense of his land." Richard may find Ewan's temper unbecoming of him and his view on leadership the product of utter complacency, but he knows a man's place during a time of war, and Ewan seems to as well.
He can at the very least, respect that.
"Don't halt him. Rather, be proud of your brother."

Prince Daniel finally pops back into this plane of existence from staring down at the floor underneath the table, at least enough to understand what is going on around him. "Oh~ yippie~." One might look at Daniel as if he were speaking stone with how purely dull his voice is. But none of the Amore family seems to notice. Mainly since he has always seemed to speak with a perpetual boredom to his lips...
"I get to sit in the least active part of the formation with you, Richard. That means we can do stuff like play 'Guess Who', 'Who Can Resist Thinking Of Suicide The Longest', and my personal favorite, 'Who Can Pass Out Last While Slaming Their Head Into A Castle Wall'." The monotony in his voice drags his words along without pause between them in an unexcited sarcasm. It is as if his voice sucks out any color from the objects surrounding him.
"Sounds like fun, doesn't it?.."

"I think our position is vital to the effort and that takes priority over your personal dissatisfaction. You should, too, be proud of your duties, cousin." It's an easy response for Richard. He likes being of use to his king and country. Plus, he has never held much delight for Daniel's sluggish disposition. Richard considers himself to be a realist, not a pessimist.

Nothing about what was to happen had been explained to Maira. Her father thought it would be too boring for her and that she wouldn't understand. However what Maira did know was a war was coming and she wasn't looking forward to it, she worried for her people and her family. She had never experienced war, she had read about it though. To her it didn't seem as glorious as people made it sound. It seemed to be full of many hardships, many deaths, and this frightened her.

"Do not patronize me Richard, I never said I wasn't proud of my brother. In fact I am very proud of him, is it not proper for a woman to worry about the people she cares about?" She questioned as she glanced at Richard, frustration in her eyes. "It's only natural for one to worry about the people they love even if their chances of surviving are very high. I'll even be worried about you while your gone." The last part she uttered before she even realized what she was saying. Her face turned bright red as she realized what she said before she looked away from Richard and back down to her lap.

She said no more as Daniel spoke, though she did listen closely. How could one be so depressing sounding as they spoke? This was the only thing going through her mind as she listened to him. It was Ewan who spoke next. "I agree with Richard, you and your cousin's position is vital. It will be the both of you who makes sure the new arrivals are cordinated and ready for battle. Do take pride in your duties." He said as he looked at Daniel. It was King Hamish who spoke next.

"Come now let us talk of something that won't bore these women such as this men's talk." This statement pushed Maira over the edge as she abruptly stood up, the chair skidding backwards as she did so. She felt eyes in her as she did so, confused eyes.

"Please excuse me, I am no longer feeling very well and wish to retire to my room." She said, trying to keep a calm voice though anyone could hear the frustration in her voice. She spun around and began to walk away from the table. She ignored her father angrily yelling at her to get back to the table and sit down. She could hear her mother calming him down as she exited the room and slowly began to make her way to her bedroom.

Once King Hamish was calm, the Queen turned to look at her daughters fiancé. "Richard perhaps you should go and talk to her. She won't listen to her family when she gets like this, perhaps she will listen to you thpugh." She asked him, obvious desperation in her eyes as she obviously didn't know what to do to calm her daughter down. The woman also obviously didn't realize how much Richard and her daughter didn't get along.

Richard scowls at the immature girl as she so obviously spells out her lack of feelings for him.
You have ONE task right now, given to you by your father, and you can't even get it right!
To make matters even worse, Maira has to go and storm out of the room, completely disregarding her father and putting Richard in a most awkward and utterly embarrassing position.
Upon the request of Queen Anabel, the prince does not even have to look at his mother to see her joyful, smile to know what she asks of him, though he was going to anyway...
"I'll see what I can do," Richard promises while elevating from his seat. "Please excuse me," he simply states as he pushes his chair back in and departs in a no-rush fashion.

The prince walks the halls, asking any passing by servant if they might have seen the girl. The different workers would tell him where he was needed to go next until stumbling upon the princess' personal help, Constance. "You! Woman." He verbally grabs the woman by her attention. "Her Royal Highness, Princess Maira, has she passed through here?" The older woman is taken a little aback by such a direct tone from the prince, much different from the usual, more employer-like tone given to her from the king and rarely anybody else in the family. "U-uuh Yes, Your Highness." Richard presses, "Do you know of her whereabouts or where she was headed?"
"Hm..." She thinks for a moment...
But a moment too long for Richard. He sighs before ordering, "Out with it, woman!"
Startled, the woman blurts out the most likely place she would be going to in the general direction of where she went. "I-I think she might be heading to the stables!"

The annoyed prince averts his gaze from down at the woman to straight on forward. His voice still frustrated but more tranquil, now that he at least has an idea of where she went. "Carry on with your duties," he orders as he walks past and down the corridor, still seemingly in no hurry at all.
The woman just looks at the boy as he leaves. ...No wonder Her Highness doesn't like that guy...
And with a "Hm!" turns back to her current duties.

Maira mindlessly made her way to the stables, the previous events clouding her mind. She paid no mind to any of the servants she passed, some even bidding her a good evening. Others were more bold and asked if she was okay, however she didn't hear any of it. She just wandered on like a mindless doll.

She finally reached the stables and was greeted by the stable boy. She managed to give him a smile and let him know she was going to take her horse out for a bit. She dismissed him after he asked if she wanted him to get the horse ready for her. She wanted to do it on her own, gave her something to occupy her time with.

With that she made her way to her horse. She was happily greeted by a beautiful speckled black and white mare. The horse caused her to smile as she gently pet the animal. Grabbing a brush she gave the mare a good brushing before she saddled her up. Once ready she grabbed her cape she left at the stalls specifically for times like these before leading the horse out. Little did she know Richard was on his way to find her.

It is not until Maira left through the gate of the inner wall and into the city of Donnerclaire that Richard pushed open the doors to the outside and walked over to the stables. 'There she is', he thinks but, instead of yelling out for her-a move which would probably cause her to leave even faster-he decides to just follow her. Immediately, he calls to the stable boy in his cold, bored, yet a very serious and commanding tone. "Black light draft!" The boy stumbled with the unexpected order but recovered and grabbed Pilott's saddle before urgently moving to ready the warhorse in question.

As soon as Richard entered the structure he B-lined for the stallion and mounted with the readying of his saddle. The stable boy, noticing the princess leave without an escort and the Lingarian prince about to do the same, he asks about it of the young royal, "Your Highness, should I fetch for an escort maybe? It will be dark soon and it would only take-"
"-No," the prince interrupts with his answer. "I can handle myself, boy." A rather harsh response for someone only but a couple years older than whom he addresses.
With little regard for the boy beneath him, Richard pulls out of the stable the moment he is finished and begins his search. Now, where could she have gone...

He scans the street leading into town, hoping to find that the girl in question has not yet turned down any streets. After finding nothing of note to clue him in on the young princess' whereabouts, he ques Pilott with the more familiar sound of Lingarian and a nudge of his heels. "Come, let's go find her."
The horse picks up in a trot to try and pick up a fast enough speed to scan but not so fast as to miss anything or trample anybody in the way because, lets face it, a stubborn warhorse is not about to stop for anyone without a pike.
Richard looks around each corner as he passes them, paying especial attention to the main streets, but it is not long before he closes in and spots what he is looking for from around a corner. Richard quietly speaks to himself, "Found you..."

Instead of confronting the girl upright, the prince retreats back behind cover; preferring a more tactically inclined way...

Maira kept a steady, quick pace knowing it wouldn't be long before the stable boy informed someone of her ventures. She would surely have someone after her soon and she wanted to try and get out of sight soon, buying her some time before having to be forced back. So onward she went, turning down streets here and there in hopes to make her trail a little difficult to follow.

She had pulled her hood up before leaving, however people still recognized her as she mad her way through the streets. Many greeted her and she managed to give them a friendly smile. Soon her destination was in sight. Just outside of the excitement of the town was a hill with a tree on top. On the other side of the hill was the graveyard which would frighten some, but didn't bother her one bit. She often would disappear to this hill with the tree in order to be alone for awhile. It allowed her to calm her mind and truly think about things.

Glancing behind her for a moment, she wanted to see if anyone had followed her yet. She had a sneaking suspicion someone was there, however she didn't see anyone. So she urged her horse onwards and up the hill. Dismounting, she tied her horse up, yet allowed her enough room to graze on the grass immediately around her. Maira in turn quickly made her way up into the tree, coming to the perfect branch that almost looked more like a seat than anything. She nestled herself into the spot while glancing back to the town.

The nice thing about the hill was you were high enough up that no one could really sneak up on you if you were aware of all your surroundings. Knowing this she kept a close eye on everything, especially towards the town which wasn't truly too far off from her. She knew someone would come from her soon so she just enjoyed the peace she had at that moment.
