The Dying City

The Dying City

0 INK

A serial killer prowls the city of New Brighton, a large metropolis, trying to find new victims for his gruesome crimes. Can a washed up detective, with nothing left to lose find him before he strikes again.

1,210 readers have visited The Dying City since xing95 created it.

Introduction

The Sirens blare on the overcast night. Yellow tape surrounds a bloody crime scene on 5th avenue. An old dirty pocket watch is gripped in the victims hands silently ticking in reverse. The chain lightly draped over his wrist. A clean red line runs across his throat, and adds to the pool of blood surrounding is body. The body was found slumped up against a train station departure sign, with his hands to his sides, and his legs sprawled out in front of him. It's a match to the MO of the Clockwork Killer, a new psychopath that has sprung up in the underbelly of the city. With a quick flash of lightning, rain begins to pour out of the sky, and washes over the urban landscape. The water droplets splatter on the skylight above.

Toggle Rules

-No random killing of important characters.
-No super detectives (i.e. solving the case in one paragraph)
-No god modding
-If you decide to do something that you deem important, ask xing95, or saxum724 first.
-Please make sure that the character you submit will contribute to the story (and the things you write in the character descriptions show that they will contribute)

This will be a kind of open roleplay. As a character you can do mostly whatever you want as long as it pertains to the story. The two main characters are going to be the detective and the serial killer. After the first paragraph just jump in. (after you submitted your characters of course) The serial killer will be played by saxum724. But I will play minor rolls, so as to not slow down the pace of the story.

Side note: This is not an advanced roleplay, so don't get mad if I don't do a great job telling a story.

Dimitri slipped into the doorway of his tiny apartment, quietly shutting the door behind him with his foot. He had been living in the dismal apartment for several years now, and though it was dilapidated and worn it felt like home. The wallpaper was peeling, and there were several large brown stains scattered around. In some places it was torn, revealing the solid brick wall behind it. The kitchen to the right of the front door was grimy, with dirt smudged into it's tiles and dirty plates stacked in large piles. After throwing his bloody knife in the sink, Dimitri pulled his gloves off, dropping them in the trash. He picked up a paint brush, and moving over to the easel in the corner of the room he started adding delicate strokes to the painting that already rested upon it. Several minutes later he smiled to himself and dropped his brush in a nearby pot. His second matter of business now completed, he stepped into his bedroom and fell asleep in a chair facing the door. His painting, a man with no eyes in his sockets, stared blankly at the front door.

Jack got out of his car. The rain pouring outside was no deterrent to him, as he walked up to one of the police officers on duty, watching over the crime scene.

"Jack Finch, New Brighton post. Would you say this is another Clockwork killing or just another gang shooting taking up the police's time?"

The police officer sent Jack away in a not so polite way. Jack decided he needed to get this story from the actual professionals. The ones who were investigating the Clockwork killer.

"Nah... The guy's as slippery as a damn eel, every scene it's the same deal; no fingerprints, no motive, the same murder weapon. All in all noting we can use..." Derrik said, puffing a cloud of smoke at his senior detective.
"And anyway, what's wrong with a little smoke every once in a while? It's not that deadly... Well not as deadly as some of the guys around these parts..."
