Tom Stormwash was found as a baby on the shores of Tortuga, his parents and their crew taken down to the bottom of the ocean by a devastating Storm.
An old couple strode down the beach, looking at the storm, as they found Tom on the sands, with his first name luckily on the cloth he was wearing. His last name was given to him by the couple.
The couple was poor, and therefore Tom had no education to learn. So instead, he went and fished all day by the docks, watching the coming and going ships. That was his way to fund his family.
After turning 25, his parent died, and he used the remaining of his money on Rum. he became a homeless, and lost everything, except his good heart and his skill with fishing.

After a day of fishing, as the sun was setting, Tom thought this would be a good time to go and have a drink at the 'Faithful Bride'.
He payed the bartender using his fish, and sat by a table, with a big bottle o' rum in his hand.

he noticed a bunch of Navys trying to recruit people to join them.
"Pfft" Tom muttered, half drunk "Who would want to join a bunch of sailors who do nothing but follow orders?"
That was not Tom's type. He wanted freedom. He wanted glory.
