As I looked myself up and down in the mirror, I smiled because I knew that Ren would be coming over today. It would be the first time he'd meet Kai, a girl whom I had quickly welcomed into my life as a friend, despite my overwhelming crush on her. I grabbed my phone and texted him and after receiving a response, I went downstairs to get some breakfast, having already gotten myself ready earlier. When I got downstairs, my Mum was making some cereal. "Hey, grab me a bowl, yeah?" I asked and she nodded, pulling yet another bowl from the cupboard. I walked straight into the living room after that, and sat down in front of the TV as I awaited the arrival of my cereal. My Mum walked into the living room, set the bowl down in my lap and then took a seat beside me. I smiled up at her as I dug into my cereal, and devoured the whole thing in no more than a couple of minutes, before I rushed out the front door.
Almost as soon as I walked outside, I noticed a car pulling up in the driveway and I couldn't fight the urge to grin as it stopped and Ren popped his head out the side window. "Heeeey," he sang, getting out of the car, before walking around to the boot as he got his suitcase and a few other bags out. "Hey," I replied, quite plainly, and he frowned in response. "How was the journey?" I asked. He shrugged with a small chuckle. "Not too shabby, I must say," he said as he locked up the car and walked towards me, handing me a few of his bags. We took them all upstairs and set them down in the spare room, where he would be staying, then we set out for Kai's house. At the time, I was almost desperate for them to meet properly but I just hoped she wouldn't hate him because I honestly did when I first met him and I knew that if Ren had a problem with her, that would be the end of any feelings. You can't simply go out with someone your best bud in the entire world doesn't like.
So, with that, we made our way over to the house, a little slowly as with each step I was growing more and more nervous, until I was at the point where Ren had to grab my arms and practically drag me there. "She's not going to hate me," he said in an attempt to reassure me but it wasn't working in the slightest. "I'll be nice, I promise!" I shook my head and dug my heals into the ground. I had such a sudden change of heart. I wanted them to meet because they were both awesome and I sincerely wanted to keep both of them in my life, but I was regretting trying to introduce them even before it had actually happened. "You always say that," I replied and before I knew it, we were outside the house. I looked at the door for a moment or two and hesitantly lifted my hand to knock on it.
When it opened, I smiled. "Hey, Kai," I greeted with a brief wave. "This is my friend Ren, he's come over for a visit and I just thought it would be cool to introduce you." I turned to Ren. "Ren, this is Kai." He nodded and mimicked my wave to her. "It's a pleasure," he said, holding his hand out as if to be polite. I watched Kai's expression closely. I knew Ren could be quite a shock to the eyes at first glance with his wild hair and general body image. I'd gotten used to it by now but I wondered if Kai would...
