"Theodore!" Eddy called from the field, finally noticing him. "Come take this basket from Sara inside." The girl, in turn, said something to Eddy before turning toward Theo.
"Good morning, Theo," Sara called as she approached him. "How are you this fine morning?"
"Never better," the boy lied with a tight smile. His eyes fell to the basket in her hand, and his forced smile turned into a full-on grin. "Is that for me?" he asked. "Honestly, Sara, I wouldn't be half as spoiled if you weren't around. Did I hear you say something about a new teacher?"
Teddy's thoughts turned to school. How he wished he could go back. He wanted to do something more than farming, and to do that he'd need a proper education. The longer he spent out of school, the farther behind he got, and the farther behind he got, the less of a chance that he would be able to go back to school.
