Appearance : Kanno stands at 5'5" and has a mostly athletic build. If one looked at her, they would think she had to be a start athlete of the swim team or another sports team, but for her noticeably less toned upper body that has been spoiled by her laziness in using her ability to lessen physical intensive activities. She has shoulder length hair with light blue highlights that she leaves straight, but will sometimes tie it into a ponytail for practical reasons. Her left eye has changed to a more reddish color from long term usage of certain drug. Kanno often wears bandages to school and passes it off as clumsiness. If one looked closely, one could see where her joints are actually artificial.

Personality : Kanno attempts to act as "normal" as possible in the public, but lacks knowledge for such casual social protocol and often becomes flustered. She attempts to be friendly to those around her, and be as supportive as possible. Some of her classmates think she has a parent-complex given how much she talks about them sometimes. However when doing a job, Kanno becomes far more ruthless and pragmatic; she deals with problems as fast as possible. This is sometimes visible when a more "important" task comes up in school. She also holds some disdain for magic users, a trait passed down to her by her benefactors on the Board of Directors. She also gets very defensive of both Academy City and the Board when they are criticized. Recently she has realized how lonely she is in the world but pushes it aside through her work.

Ability : Hardlight

Kanno is a level 4 esper with the ability to manipulate the mass of theoretically anything. Her trade mark ability is manipulating the photons of light particles and making it "hard". Aside from the mass of light, Kanno can also manipulate most every day objects competently, as well as some gases in the air. She is limited by distance in maintaining the altered mass of objects. The smaller the object, the longer and further away she can maintain it. For instance, a bullet crafted from light will last longer than a spear of light thrown at someone. Kanno has yet to be able to perform the calculations necessary to alter the mass of organics due to a near death attempt several years ago, and also lacking the appropriate knowledge. She is also limited by the need to see what she is altering, causing her abilities to become weaker in low light settings.

In order to compensate she has a special mask that aids in identifying the composition of her environment, and make suggestions in calculations. It allows her to operate in most environments. Kanno also uses enhancement drugs when necessary, but is a life long user of a more refined form of Body Crystal. This enhancement, while not as dangerous as it was under Kihara's research, boosts her calculation abilities at the cost of very slowly starting to erode her body without her knowledge.


History : A crippled child, Kanno was abandoned in Academy City at a young age. Without access to many options that most Child Errors had, Kanno managed to join a Skill Out gang that used her as bait or a distraction and managed to survive several years off of that. However, she was abandoned by the group when an operation went wrong and was arrested by Anti-Skill and sent to the Reformatory where she languished. One day, a researcher visited her with the offer of shorter sentence, and even possible freedom of she participated in an experiment. With nothing to lose, Kanno agreed and was removed one night and taken to a research facility away from the general public. Although she was promised it would be a non-life threatening experiment, Kanno realized it was a lie after several other "volunteers" failed to return. By the time Kanno realized her mistake, it was too late and she quietly allowed herself to be strapped down and became another subject in the quest for an improved, mass produced Body Crystal. In a twist of fate, the most crippled subject survived and was lauded as the key to a new age of ability improvement. As a reward, Kanno was given not only her freedom, but also a semi-new lease on life. With a partially cybernetic body that could function normally, Kanno became a more willing participant in the future tests and experiments. When she had a System Scan conducted, it was discovered that her esper ability seemed to have been permanently improved by the new body crystal, causing a member of the Board of Directors to become personally interested. Eventually the Director decided to adopt Kanno as a daughter and gave her a chance at a "normal" life. Using a Testament to aid Kanno in catching up on education, the Director also began shaping Kanno into a willing agent of the Board of Directors.

Taking the Director's name as her own, Kanno eventually became a loyal "cleaner" for the Board of Directors, taking care of the odd errand, but also tying up loose ends in other factions. With the rise of magic in society, her job became even busier as she was deployed to take of business and new conflicts between the Science and Magic factions. For her 15th birthday, Kanno summoned the courage to ask her adoptive parent to enroll in public school. She was given permission under the stipulation that she didn't allow it to interfere with her daily work. After considering the new academic institutions, Kanno enrolled in Newline as her first choice and was known as " that really nice, quirky girl who disappears a lot from school" . She managed to impress peers with her general knowledge, and ability speak several languages, especially English albeit formally and stiltedly. The lull in conflict between the Science and Magic factions have given Kanno her first reprieve in work and allowed her to focus on school. Recently, the anti-supernatural factions seem to be getting more aggressive, worrying Kanno that her life might be interrupted again.
