Element: Lightning

Powers:
"Lightning is probably the most volatile and hard to control element. That's why I love it"

Alanna is gifted with the ability to manipulate and create lightning. She can create small, spark-like lightnings in her hands or call upon a larger, more destructive lightning bolt from the skies.

The strength of her lightning depends on the concentration and physical energy she has. The smaller bolts are much easier to create and manipulate, she sometimes subconsciously creates small flashes of lightning that dance around her hands. Large bolts, if she isn't concentrating hard enough, have a tendency to try and find their own paths.

Her power becomes much more powerful during thunder storms. When she is angry her lightning is more difficult to control.

Rival Element: Ice

Weaknesses:
As with everyone Alanna has a weakness, hers being the cold. She finds it more difficult to call upon her power in cold temperatures, similarly she is more likely to become lethargic and slow during winter. Perhaps it stems from the fact that her rival element is Ice, or perhaps she just has a low tolerance for colder weather.

Strengths:
Intelligence - Alanna is gifted with a quick mind and an eagerness to learn.
Cooking - Alanna learned to cook from her father and takes pride in the culinary masterpieces she creates.

Personality:
Alanna is frequently described as a sweet, reserved girl. She is friendly and has a naturally quiet, helpful demeanor. She is what most would call an introvert, she enjoys spending time alone rather than in a large group. That isn't to say that she is shy or meek in anyway. Alanna is confident, intelligent and finds conversing with people easy.

Her reserved nature, however, means that she isn't one to talk her mouth off. Alanna, unless especially excited, tends to think before she speaks. Her words are rarely rash and she always makes an effort to be polite towards strangers. Around friends she will let her guard down and her responses will similarly be less thought out.

She is intelligent, often falling within the top 10% of her class. She is a quiet, productive worker who is always willing to help a fellow student if asked. Her main interests lie in the sciences and she hopes to continue on into the science department next year.

Those who only know Alanna from a glance would see her as a quiet, sweet girl. However when Alanna is provoked that sweetness disappears. Her temper, like her power, can be volatile and destructive. It could be said that Alanna can be provoked too easily. She dislikes insults towards herself or her friends and can quickly become agitated if irritated for too long. A sure sign that you have provoked Alanna is the miniature lightning bolts that will spark around her hands. Losing her temper loosens Alanna's control of her power and with an element like Lightning this can cause some strife.

Alanna also has trouble forgiving past slights. If you have gotten on her bad side in the past there is little one can do to gain her trust again. She dislikes outright confrontations and is more likely to ignore and avoid those who she dislikes, rather than risk being angry.

Temper aside Alanna is a thoughtful girl who enjoys spending time both alone and with her close friends. She has little trouble speaking up on issues that concern her and is always there to hear out her friends' problems. She is a reliable, friendly girl who strives to be the best she can. She knows she isn't perfect, but understands that no one really is.

|| Sweet || Reserved || Thoughtful || Temper || Intelligent || || Helpful || Friendly ||

History:
Alanna grew up in a happy middle-class family on the edge of Scotland's largest city, Glasgow. The small family was originally from Denmark, the country where Alanna was born. They moved to the UK when Alanna was four to be closer to her father's parents. Two years after the move Alanna's little sister Ellie was born.

Alanna always knew that she was an elementalist, her parents both attended Gradon Academy in their younger days. As they were both Lightning elementalists Alanna grew up around the element. It didn't come as a shock when she first displayed signs of her ability. She was only eight at the time and had wondered outside during a severe storm. Before she quite knew how and what she had done a lightning bolt had come streaking through the sky and hit her, dead centre. The power that rushed through her was exhilarating, the tingling in her fingers called out for more.

Ellie, her younger sister, was expected to follow in Alanna and her parents' footsteps. In a similar situation to Alanna, Ellie revealed that she had also inherited the elemental powers. Both girls could not get enough of their powers, but Alanna was always aware that she wasn't to let normal humans know about her gift. She spent the majority of her childhood hiding part of herself from her friends but she understood the danger that might come from sharing her gift with them.

Her parents taught Alanna what they knew, helping her to control her powers while she grew up. When she was old enough her parents sent her to Eastern Gradon Academy to further learn to control her abilities. The Academy has been a perfect learning environment for the girl. It is the only place in the world where the elementalists can learn and use their powers without fear of discovery.

"I hope you're not going to be spending all day down there Mr. Miller, you'll miss out on our class." Beau let out a long angry breath. He put his head against the edge of his chest, grumbling horrid things about Mr. Tanner under his breath. He inhaled a shaky breath as he tried to contain his anger. His secreted anger issues were coming out right about now and currently he was just trying to contain it. "Dude, you alright?" He had heard the voice of Marion whom of which was sitting near him. He relaxed a bit, inhaling slowly then sighing softly. He lifted his head and looked straight at her. "Yup, I'm fine. No broken bones but I am just a little angry and embaressed." He whispered to her then slowly got up out of his chair and moved to the one directly next to Marion. He fixed his books on his table then slowly leaned back in his chair as he glared at Mr. Tanner while listening to what the Metal teacher had to say.

Sighing softly he ran hand through his hair before folding his arms down on his desk and he shoved his head down onto his arms. This was the usual sleeping position for students, but he had no plans on going to sleep due to the fact that he had no interest in getting in more trouble or to get even more ticked off than he already was. Upon hearing that they were allowed to have partners he instantly thought about having Marion as his partner if she even wanted him as a partner though he understood if she didn't want to be his partner. "I expect everyone's reports to be handed in the day after tomorrow. Apart from Mr Miller, your report is due tomorrow." Mr. Tanner obviously couldn't hide the smirk that flitted across his face. This made Beau absolutely furious. "That is completely unfair!" He sputtered angrily. By this time his head had shot up along with his body. He glared at Mr. Tanner for several moments then shook his head as he bit his cheek form spitting horrible words at him in front of the rest of the students in this classroom. This was stupid, he wasn't about to give Mr. Tanner the satisfaction of him being angry. He nodded over and over again and slowly slid back into his chair. "Okay, fine then. You know what Mr. Tanner I'll get an A on it don't you worry. Who cares if it's due tomorrow? Huh? It's not like I am going to be doing much during the Winter Feast any ways." He growled then smirked right back at him. "Thanks Mr. Tanner you make me such a better man." He said, leaning back in his seat again and tilting his head up to show Mr. Tanner the proud smile on his face.

Be the bigger man, right? You can't let people get in your head like Mr. Tanner always tries to do with Beau. His mama had always told him to be the bigger man when it comes down to it so he was going to be the bigger man. It was fine, missing a Winter Feast wasn't that bad there was probably always going to be another dance or another Feast. Something along those lines. He popped his fingers once as he slowly sat up and took out the stuff he would need for the project and he set his stuff down on his desk. Glancing over at Marion he ignored anything else that Mr. Tanner had to say to him. "Hey, Marion," He said to her in a hushed tone. "Want to work together on this project? I mean I'd understand if you don't, but it was worth asking." He added with a shrug. He smiled at her a little, relaxing much more and now he was becoming his usual self.

Harmony wasn't even sure what was going on. All she knew was that they were having some kind of feud up in the front of the room and here she was already thinking about the order in which she would do her project. Shifting in her chair she yawned softly, waiting until she saw Beau finally sit down after snapping at Mr. Tanner. Beau was taking this a lot better than he usually did when people weren't around and it was just Beau and Mr. Tanner. She bit her lip gently then started to flip through the Gravity section in her book. She felt her eyes get heavy slightly, so she decided that it would be a good idea if she just rested her head for a little. Placing her elbow down on the desk she left an open palm where she placed her head as she scanned through the Gravity section. Soon enough she felt her eyes get heavy and before she knew it she was drifting off to sleep. Not on purpose but by accident because she hadn't gotten really any sleep last night. It was rare for her ever to fall asleep during class unless something was wrong or she had been unable to get sleep the night before. Usually by now she would be hard at work on her work while up and ready for anything that was possible.

"Hey, Marion,"

Crap.

"Want to work together on this project? I mean I'd understand if you don't, but it was worth asking."
She swiftly turned her head in his direction and plastered a cheerful smile onto her face.
"Yeah! Of course! Sure! Oh it's fine! It's totally fine!"

It was evident by her first response to Beau that although Marion was happy about her wish being granted, she was nervous as well. Maybe even frightened. Even as a little girl, she would become petty and apprehensive around those she considered to be admirable. She glanced down at her notebook, then Beau, then at her physics textbook. "Alrighty, let's see what we have to do for this experiment..." she said, quickly flipping over the book's contents until she landed on page seventy-four. It contained the instructions for the experiment.

Not wanting to waste any time with Beau around, Marion avoided staring at the pictures, and jumped towards the first step on the page. She read the instructions silently, then spoke out loud to the wood elementalist next to her. "Looks like we have to read part of the chapter first, and then go back and read over what we have to do." Marion hated backtracking, and would normally just skip the first step and cut right to the chase, but she didn't want to look like a slacker in front of Mr. Miller.

Dragging her finger over the words, she tried as hard as she could to get through the section without wasting too much time. As seconds passed, it seemed apparent that her goal wasn't about getting a good grade for herself, but it was about doing Beau a favor. She didn't want him to miss out on the Winter Feast. She refused to let someone she cared about not show up to something she cared about. It was as simple as that. "Okay," she quietly muttered, "So after reading this, I have a pretty good feeling I know what the experiment is going to be..." She flipped through the pages yet again, and then silently slammed her hand onto the book when she had reached the page. "Yup," she said, nodding her head, "Terminal velocity and air resistance."

She quickly read the passage inside her head, her eyes swiftly flickering across the page. She nodded, then got out of her seat, grabbed a tennis ball from one of the bins on the back table near the window, and brought the neon green ball back to her desk, tossing it every time she took a step. She sat back down, and as she opened her notebook, she started to speak again.
"So basically what we're doing is we're taking a tennis ball and a sheet of paper and dropping them at the same time. We see which one hits the ground first, record the data, then crumple the paper and repeat. It's supposed to show you air resistance and velocity and stuff. I did this all the time when I was really little. It's not hard at all."
As she did this, she didn't even give Beau an acknowledging glance. Sometimes, when she fancied someone, she didn't stare directly into their eyes or even at them. It was a quirk that she desperately wanted to get rid of.

Without hesitation, she ripped a piece of lined paper out of her notebook, and then quickly slid it away so that Beau wouldn't catch the Batman symbol on the front. She grabbed the green pen resting on her desk, slid it over her ear, and then held the paper and tennis ball out in front of her physics partner with a smile. "Would you like to do the honor of dropping these fine objects, Beau Miller?"

Alanna Ascot

Alanna watched the drama between Mr Tanner and Beau as it unfolded. She felt sorry for Beau, being disliked by Mr Tanner was probably not the easiest thing. Out of all the teachers at the Academy, Mr Tanner was the one most likely to act like a child, or so Alanna thought anyway.

With her head down she began her experiment, working with the boy next to her. Markus, a fire elemental, was a pleasant boy who was also had a temper. While she wasn't good friends with the boy for the experiment he made a fine partner. The experiment itself was pretty simple, testing how gravity affected several objects of different size and density. It would be the report that took up a much longer time. Mr Tanner always expected an in-depth, scientific report complete with introduction, hypothesis etc etc. It would take a good few hours of work for Alanna to get it to a standard that she was happy with. But, as with most school work she did, she would complete it to the best of her ability.

Alanna glanced up to the front of the room where Mr Tanner was seated behind his desk. His glasses had reappeared, no doubt shielding his hungover eyes from the bright classroom lights, and his feet were once again resting on his table. While she didn't need help for the experiment she did have a few questions about the report. With a quiet word to Markus, Alanna stood and made her way up to Mr Tanner. She stood in front of his desk for a moment, waiting for him to notice her. When it became evident that he was either ignoring her or asleep Alanna cleared her throat, hoping to catch his attention. It failed and Alanna became even more convinced that Mr Tanner was in fact asleep. Reaching out a tentative hand she tapped the sole of his shoe, sending a tiny electrical charge from her finger into his shoe. Almost immediately he gave a jolt, waking up with a grunt of surprise.

"Miss Ascot?" He said, still half asleep, "You do know using your powers on a teacher is a punishable offense"
"You were asleep sir and I have questions." Alanna replied.
"Ah, right. Right. Questions. What are they?" Mr Tanner said, running a distracted hand through his hair.
"For the report what method of citation do you want us to use?" Alanna began, "And do you want us to round numbers to three significant figures or two?"
Mr Tanner blinked up at her for a moment, obviously the question took a moment to sink in.
"Use whatever method you want for citation and three significant figures." he finally replied, fighting back a yawn part way through. Alanna nodded, took a mental note and thanked him before returning to her desk.

Brent Tanner

Brent, now awake and feeling like he should at least try to do something, stood up. He stretched first, working the kinks out of his back that his small nap had created. Sleeping in his classroom chair was hardly comfortable.
He began a slow wonder around the classroom, stopping every so often at each table to see how the student's work was going.

"Excellent work Miss Palmer." Brent said, passing Anastasia and Lil. Well, he hoped it was excellent work. He really only glanced at the student's experiments as he passed them. Most students did seem to be able to manage the experiment well enough. It would be the report that tested more than a few of them. Brent liked his student's reports to be comprehensive, concise and well-written. Any grammatical or spelling errors would lower the student's grade. In this age of spell check and computers there was really no excuse.

"Nice to see you in class Miss Crimir" Brent said as he spotted Sable slipping into a seat near the door. Literally slipping.

His walk about done Brent settled back at the head of the classroom and sat down, his eyes glancing every so often to the classroom clock position on the wall.

Beau organized his stuff while awaiting her response. When she did respond it was a response that kind of surprised him. "Yeah! Of course! Sure! Oh it's fine! It's totally fine!" Nodding in response to that he looked at the paper he had gotten from... him. As Beau didn't not like even thinking the Metal man's name. Smoothly brushing his hand through his hair he finally flipped through the pages in the book, stopping at the page that was needed to complete the project that was presented to him. Running his finger over the words he read it over quickly then sighed softly as it confused him ever so slightly. That slight confusion might as well left him completely baffled because he wasn't sure what to do right about now. "Looks like we have to read part of the chapter first, and then go back and read over what we have to do." She had mentioned which snapped him from his slightly confused state and he looked straight at her, giving her a small charming smile. "Yeah, I knew that. I don't know why but just reading over it confused me a little." He admitted softly, flipping over to a couple different pages before back to the needed page which he read it over once again. Suddenly he understood what he was reading by the Oh, that escaped his lips.

"Okay," she quietly muttered, "So after reading this, I have a pretty good feeling I know what the experiment is going to be..." He watched her hesitantly as she flipped through the pages yet again, and then silently slammed her hand onto the book when she had reached the page. "Yup," she said, nodding her head, "Terminal velocity and air resistance." He nodded, biting the inside of his cheek once before looking down at his book once again. Piece of cake right, He thought, shaking his head once at his thought. "Doesn't sound to hard," He commented, slowly rising from his seat just so he could stand with one foot while his other leg rested on the chair beneath him. Obviously Marion knew what she was doing really more than he actually did. Of course he did his very best not to show that fact because he didn't want to seem at all clueless in front of her. "So basically what we're doing is we're taking a tennis ball and a sheet of paper and dropping them at the same time. We see which one hits the ground first, record the data, then crumple the paper and repeat. It's supposed to show you air resistance and velocity and stuff. I did this all the time when I was really little. It's not hard at all." He had been about to go get the needed equipment but Marion seem to already be a couple steps ahead of him. He chuckled, looking at the items carefully.

He glanced down at his book, his eyes grazing over his eyes for a split second until she spoke once again. "Would you like to do the honor of dropping these fine objects, Beau Miller?" This question made him smile happily as he held out his hands for the objects. "I would love to do the honor. By the way, thanks for working with me." He mentioned with a gentle smile as he carefully took the items from her. Okay he could do this, like she said it wouldn't be hard at all and he knew she was right. He glanced over at the page in his book before holding the items out. Double checking to make sure they were just about at the same height before he let go of them both at the same time and carefully watched as the tennis ball quickly hit the ground and bounced away while the paper kind of just simply floated down to the ground before sliding across the floor. Afterwards he hurried over to them both, taking the paper and the tennis ball into his hands then he walked back over to his desk. "Basically the tennis ball hits the ground faster than the paper reaches the ground due to gravity pulling it to the ground and due to the mass of each item." He pointed out, hoping that sounded even some what right, though, he was pretty sure he was right. "Would you like to do the second part or do would you like me to continue to do the tests?" Questioning this because he just wanted to make sure incase she wanted to do one of these experiments at any point and time. Holding the items out to her he quirked an eyebrow at her as if repeating the question with just an expression on his face.
